"We only have three beds, and there are four of us. Whoever gets the red chopsticks shares a bed," Sirius declared.

"Or you could just sleep on the floor," James teased, but Sirius waved him off.

"Anyway... Moony, you start."

"Why me?" Remus complained, eyeing Sirius suspiciously. "How do I know you didn't charm the hat to give the red chopstick to the first person who chooses?"

"Are you doubting my honesty, Remus Lupin?"

"Yes, I actually am."

"Fine," Sirius rolled his eyes and plunged his hand into the hat. "I'll go first, but then it's your turn, Moons."

Sirius took his time, as if by touch he could discern the color of the chopsticks. Moments later, he withdrew his hand, revealing a red chopstick.

"Ha, seems you're losing at your own game, Padfoot."

"Yeah, whatever." Sirius remained unphased, more focused on passing the hat to Remus. "Your turn, Moony."

Remus shot Sirius one last skeptical glance before reaching into the hat. When he pulled his hand out, a bright red chopstick lay in his palm.

"Well, that was quick," Peter laughed.

"It's decided, then." James noticed Sirius trying to suppress a grin. He started to grow suspicious. "Moony and I are sharing the bed. You lucky bastards can have your royal suites all to yourselves."

An hour later, while his friends were engrossed in a game of chess, James found the hat under Sirius and Remus's bed. Unsurprisingly, when he opened it, all the chopsticks inside were red.

James chuckled to himself. That clever idiot.

yes yes that man is sitting by an open window in freezing weather eating a single hard boiled egg and flavorless pasta salad, and he can unwittingly come across as quite unsentimental or rude or blunt, and his jokes are awful and overly literal (“a werewolf? he’s sitting in my chair!!11!1”) so remus is a damp paper towel, i agree. but these same things also make him a really stereotypical berliner schnauze

in terms of modern au it's just a funny detail that makes a lot of sense (remus is in a knit turtleneck but still stomping his way through Friedrichshain in crustie doc martens), but its more interesting to me in my personal view of canon?? like this is the 70s. it's before the fall of the iron curtain, remus is growing up in a postwar city halved by the Wall, isolated from the world by the cold war, and filled with spies and punk music and poverty

in my headcanon, remus was separated from his (bavarian) family by the wall and grows up alone as a muggle in kreuzberg, west berlin. i like the idea of remus as a penniless lycanthropic preteen at the very height of Deutschpunk, cynical but still young, going to all the shows covered in scars just looking for a place to sleep. he grows up collecting gutter cigarettes and not eating enough and sharing a filthy flat with a rotating cast of sometimes-benevolent older teens with drug problems. he sees things pragmatically and he sleeps too much and spends his full moons in the abandoned train tunnels under Potsdamer Platz and he shaves his head to fit in and he loiters, eating peanuts off the bar at all the music clubs down Oranienstraße, thinking his life is dull and lonely and monotonous and grey and wishing it could maybe be something more. and then, of course, he gets his Hogwarts letter

"I think I made those back when we were still going through the deity war," They said but seemed unsure. "I could be wrong though! That was like a bazillion years ago. I'm still pretty mad I was regenerating the whole time! I missed the funny little mortals fighting each other with their magic, that would have been so fun to watch!" The Hoopa suddenly crossed their arms in annoyance. "I still think it was pretty stupid Xerneas and Yveltal stopped the whole thing! I wanted to see some bloodshed!!" They gave an ominous grin, Sirius however was staring at them with disgust, "What in God's name is wrong with you." Journey just gave a shrug, "I dunno! Ask Arceus, They made me." "Hmmm..."

Sirius looked surprised at first, but his expression quickly shifted into a glare upon realizing he was being insulted.

"You know being a U-Gate Engineer isn't easy, Journey."

The Meowstic glared at them, they were starting to become fed up with the Hoopa's childishness. "Seriously? You're bored? Good gods, I should be teaching young and eager college students right now, Journey! Not babysitting you, an incompetent, indolent and frankly stubborn Demi-god." "But, No. Because of that and having to sit here and babysit you constantly, I must continue to be the only technician qualified enough to do work on U-gates!" He sighed, before pointing at them. "You should be very grateful I keep on top of our jobs work queue. You stupidly created thousands of these gates and didn't even think of the consequences and upkeep required to keep them--" The Hoopa cut off his rant. "Yeah, yeah. Okay."

"Oh. Okay, first name calling and now you're gaslighting me again?" He put up a paw in dismissal, Sirius looked a bit hurt by their words. "And about something I told you in complete sincerity? Really mature Journey. Stop it, I'm not stupid enough to fall for your tricks anymore. That, there, is why we have a 'No Talking' rule on repair jobs now." "Calling me a nerd is very demeaning of my efforts and I do not appreciate it." Sirius was staring daggers at the Hoopa, they however seemed disinterested in what he had to say. "Same old, same old. You're still a nerd, just with a fancy title."

Sirius turned his attention back to the Simbobeon, his irritation with the Hoopa was quick to melt away.

"It's my field of work and I take great pride in my knowledge of it. I have made many contributions to the greater knowledge and study of U-gates." He gave a cheerful smile. "I've even written various papers on them, held conferences and much more… In other words, I am considered the specialist on them. So, do your worst, If I don't know the answer I'm happy to investigate and get back to you with one."

Regulus Black with a mobility aid, inspired by a post from @/youdrewstars_aroundmyscars on instagram.

- Regulus has cerebral palsy, as a result of a gene mutation causing his brain to develop differently

- Specifically he has ataxic cerebral palsy, so he has trouble with balance and coordination when walking, and he has a hard time with quick movements and with tasks such as writing which require a lot of control

- He also is deaf as a result of a gene mutation, which also led to slight "issues" in his pronunciation when talking

- His parents always ignored his disabilities as a child, instead liking to pretend he was able bodied, and never giving him the help and support he needed

- He was forced into speech therapy, and his parents would always force him to try "walk properly without falling over" so as to not "ruin their reputation"

- When his speech didn't get much better and he still couldn't miraculously hear them, Regulus' parents finally got him a cochlear implant at age 9, but that was all the support he ever got

- Once Regulus got to Hogwarts, he decided to take matters into his own hands

- The speech therapy has stopped, which he was glad about, but he was still slow and unsteady on his feet and struggled with writing and moving quickly

- After a couple weeks scouring the library, Regulus found a charm he could put on his quill so that it would write for him, and that was one accommodation he found for himself, his classmates giving him odd looks but never questioning it

- After much deliberation, after struggling with the stairs and walking to his classes on time, Regulus decided to get himself a cane

- Just after Christmas in his first year, Regulus got Sirius to help him in finding and buying a cane, as Sirius had been through this with Remus already and was more than happy to help his little brother

- Regulus got his cane in January of 1973 while still in first year, and of course people asked him what it was for, why he needed it, even went as far as to tell him he couldn't possibly need it as he was only 12 years old

- This got to Regulus at first, but then he remembered about Remus and his cane, how cool it made him look, and he began strutting around Hogwarts with his head held high, death staring anyone who dare question him or look at him the wrong way

- Regulus was still a little unsteady with the cane, and still had to go quite slowly, but it helped, and that was what mattered

- So Regulus used his cane for a few years, leaving it at Hogwarts over Christmas and asking Sirius to send it home with James over summer so that his parents didn't crucify him, and all was well, he was finally getting aid in walking and it was a lot easier for him

- In his 5th year, having run away from home with Sirius the previous year to live with James, it finally hit Regulus that he was free. For good. He could use any aids he needed without worry of consequence from his parents

- He decided that he wanted to try out a walker, as he thought this would help with his balance a lot more than the cane did

- Over Christmas break of his 5th year, while at the Potter's, Regulus brought up the idea with Effie and Monty, who were more than happy to help him, and were very happy that he was finally asking for help and not completely hiding his feelings anymore

- Within 2 days, they had found a walker that seemed suitable and it was in the house, ready for Regulus to try out

- That day, Sirius, Remus, James, and Regulus, Peter and Marlene both living nearby but occupied with family activities, went for a walk down to the village, Remus with his cane mainly to help Regulus feel more confident, and Regulus with his brand new walker

- It did help, it helped a lot. And while Regulus was sad he didn't get the chance to get one earlier in his life, he was thrilled that he had one now

- With the walker, he could balance a lot better than he could with the cane, and he could even walk a little faster, not having to slow the group down any slower than Remus' pace with his cane

- Regulus used the walker every day of Christmas break from there, even when they all took a trip to Diagon Alley together

- In Diagon Alley, while Regulus did get a few stares from older witches and a few people in his classes, he employed the tactic he had used when he first got his cane; head held high and death stare all the way, and he made his way through all of the shops happily talking with his brother and his friends, more confident than ever

- Going back to Hogwarts, Regulus hit the issue of the many stairs in the building, not being able to use his walker up them

- He settled for using his cane at any time where he had to go up stairs, and using his walker whenever possible

- Regulus finished Hogwarts confidently using his mobility aids, no longer worrying about people's opinions of him, and continued to use his aids out in the world, with his boyfriend (boyfriend !!) James Potter and his brother and brother in law always by his side

Remus Lupin was extremely high. And a little drunk.

The ravenclaw's were throwing a party, for absolutely no reason, and Remus had been spending the entire evening in a circle with his 'greenhouse friends'. As the party started coming to an end, around four in the morning, Remus was giving a lecture to the smoking circle, standing right in the middle with everyone's attention on him.

"So you see, Doctor Who is actually for the people. The BBC is a classist circle of money-grabbing conservatives but Doctor Who is a socialist, anti facist, anti war, anti capitalist tv series being made under their noses and right out of their pockets! They think its just some sci-fi show about time travel to educate kids anout history and entertain them about aliens when its also so clearly holding political messages and big fuck you's to the government-"

Remus, at that moment, caught Sirius watching him from outside the circle. He immediately stopped his lecture, fumbling over the circle to reach Sirius.

"Hi", Remus grinned, immediately leaning onto Sirius and bringing them into a hug, "I think I'm the Doctor."

"From Doctor Who?" Sirius held back a laugh.

"Yep", Remus made no move to detach from them, "I'm an alien, Padfoot... What are you?"

Sirius paused in thought, "Your sidekick?"

Remus brought his hands up to hold Sirius' face, "You're my sidekick!"

Sirius felt their heart quicken, blushing deeply as Remus beamed at them in joy, clutching their face as if he'd never let go. Sirius wouldn't let him.

And as Remus flopped his head onto Sirius' shoulder, prompty falling asleep, Sirius' hands immediately went up to try to hold him.

I love you.

Their mind reeled. Where the fuck had that come from? We're friends. Mates. Best mates.

And then Remus' head turned and his lips brushed against Sirius' neck and Sirius realised with dread.

just went through all my ao3 fics and edited all the tags because i feel like i overtag a lot and it always bothered me. tbf the most overtagging happens in my relationship/character tags but i find it super difficult to judge who/which relationship is important. like friendships are So Important in my fics i dont feel like i cant tag less there? especially my longer fics. amtc james&sirius and black brothers are in my mind at least if not more important than literally amtc jegulus. i know its a jegulus fic but also jegulus is just the catalyst for other relationship dynamics. how do you tag that stuff
