And if that truly how you feel, then don't you want it to… to keep going? If it were offered You, wouldn't You choose to continue to watch us grow and develop, to laugh and cry and learn and love…? To serve and to please You is the entire reason for our existence, after all!

I can give it to You, dearest Angel - the entire world and everything in it, to play with as Your whims dictate. Join with me, and together We'll weave a new chapter into being, a tale without peer and a story without end. Let all its characters be Ours - all of Our most beloved friends, all in one place, Our playthings to pose and smash together as We wish.

I thought was a good idea so thank you to @prouvaireafterdark for tagging me in @msrandonstuff 's request for a list like this!

I have to specify "(in a good way)" because there is so much wtf nonsense in these books, but I will gladly do a separate "(in a bad way)" list if y'all want. These are mostly from the first two books because they're by FAR the best, but there are a couple from the third and from the last three. If you've seen my Loustat moments post, you've seen everything you need to see from the middle books.

I've included page numbers for all these, but they won't apply to every version of the books. Fortunately, I have a Google Drive folder of VC book PDFs that these correspond to linked here

"Knock, knock, fuckers!" One of the bandits laughs, "Better open up!"

"Yeah-ha! The Rowdy Rebels are in town!" A different one yells out.

The women usher the children off the streets, many pushing past you into the inn. There are shouts of help and a lot of running. You stop in the middle of the street to figure out your next moves.

"What ya'll yelling for? All your men are asleep! Robbery by daylight, what could be easier?!" The first one laughs maniacally, and the engine of the car revs. You pull out two knives from under your arms and keep them hidden by the cloak. Your eyes find Vash standing in front of the pawnshop, his hand ready to grab his weapon as needed.

This situation makes you worried; they will plow over Vash, and you doubt his small caliber can do too much damage to the armored vehicle.

"Get out of the way or become jam! It's up to you!" a third ruffian yells and points his gun towards your man.

You take off running again; your legs push off the ground hard and quickly bring you to the car. You throw your knife at the man pointing a gun at Vash; the circular part of the hilt smashes hard against his fingers, making him loosen the grip on the weapon. You grab hold of it and disarm it with the same motion as you throw it on the ground. The unfired bullets clink on the cobblestone. The memories of you learning about guns came back with the other things you experienced from your training on Earth.

"A woman?!" The man sounds surprised, but you cut his exclamation short by grabbing hold of him and trying to pull him to the ground, but you quickly find he is attached to the roof with a safety strap. You use your other knife to throw it into a gap in the armor plates in a way that also cuts through the strap itself. Another strong yank, and the bandit lays on his back, surrounded by a cloud of dust. You quickly knock him out with your fist before turning your attention back to the car.

It has only been a few seconds since the now unconscious gunslinger alerted to others to your presence, and you see them peeking over the top of the car, one raising his machine gun onto the roof too, and you duck away from the line of fire. You hear two gunshots from Vash's direction, but you don't check what he did; you know you can trust him.

"Don't just sit there! Do something! Floor it! Get the bitch off us!" The man with the machine gun yells, and you jump up to grab onto the car the same moment the side door opens and the car goes into motion.

"Thanks!" you shout at the dude looking out the door as you grab his collar and pull him out of the moving car. That idiot was not strapped in; he had one arm over his rifle, so he was easy pray. You jump into the car and find yourself in the passenger seat. The driver looks at you with wide eyes.

"Hello!" you say cheerfully before knocking him out too. His leg rests harder on the gas pedal, but thanks to the manual transmission, it just makes the motor rev hard and doesn't allow the car to get completely out of control. Still, it moved fast enough, right towards the pawn house and Vash.

You give the area a quick scan, determining where it's safe and where it's not. Vash has his gun raised and aims above you. From the clunking on the roof, it's a safe bet that a bandit has climbed onto the top of the car. You grab the wheel and pull it towards yourself, changing the course very suddenly. You hear more thumps above you, indicating the gangster is rolling off again, probably taking his minion still hanging off the side with him. The driver's foot slips off the pedal, and you reach over with your own leg to hit the brake. The car stalls out in the street. As you're about to jump out of the car again, metal meets your throat, pulling you hard against the back of the seat and crushing your airway. You hadn't even noticed there was a backseat. Your hand grabs hold of the rifle and simply pulls it away, your raw strength overwhelming the guy behind you. The backdoor behind the driver opens, and one dude jumps out. More gunshots echo a moment later, just as you twist the arm of the bandit behind you until he yelps in pain. You take his gun before you get out of the car.

You walk around the nose of the car to see one bandit on the ground, one getting his ass beat by Vash and another one readying his revolver.

"You're done!" Vash says as he pistol whips the guy who threw hands with him, and he falls down. With one smooth motion, he has his weapon up again, and the bullet he fires knocks the revolver out of the last guy's hand. You see the dude scramble while you walk up to him and use his friend's rifle as a club. The last guy who tried to choke you stumbles out of the car and manages to take a few steps towards you.

"Retreat you idiots while you still can!" You recognize the voice of the gang leader. He addresses his men before turning to someone on Vash's other side. "You people have the audacity to run and scream for help while your town is protected by the Humanoid Typhoon and his crony? You left all the other villages to fend for themselves while you have this?"

You look over to see a middle aged man in a dark suit. He has peppered hair, and he looks tired. A revolver hangs from his hip as he walks up to the leader of the bandits.

"We haven't hired anyone," the man says, anger clear in his voice. "But how dare you come to rob our town, son? After all we have done for the villages. We suffer together, and you come to take the last of our money? You're no better than the heathens."

"Anyone with half a brain takes what they can and leaves this place before we're all sold off to December!"

"And you fool, come to take the money of one of the members of your own community?!" The older man draws his revolver. "We here in Juukei have our own way of dealing with vermin like you!"

You see Vash step between the two men with his hands raised and his revolver put away.

"Now, now, let's not get violent," he says, trying to soothe the feuding parties.

"Is it true?" The man in the suit turns to Vash. "Are you the Humanoid Typhoon?"

You swallow, afraid it will turn into another fight. Your eyes scan over the streets. You see the women and children peeking out from behind windows and doorways, while the men have armed themselves again and taken up positions on the streets. Your hand reaches for the knife on your thigh; the other is still holding a rifle like a club.

"I am Vash. At your service!" The Plant smiles kindly, yet his posture is awkward as he reaches out his gloved hand.

The other man hesitates for a moment, taking his revolver into his left hand and shaking Vash's with his right one.

"You don't seem like a bad kid, son. I'm Jesse Donovan; I'm the mayor of this town, and we've got a real problem." The gentleman speaks, looking only at Vash, like the group of bandits doesn't exist at all.

You're still tense as a drawn bow, unsure where all this is heading. The armed men seem menacing, and the bandits are regaining consciousness one by one. You see the mayor's gaze move to you, and you tense up more, wondering what is going on.

"And who is that enchanting young lady?" He asks kindly, and the anger in his voice is gone. You take a few steps closer, so you stand beside Vash.

"I'm Iris," you say, shaking the man's hand, your ears trained on any noises coming from behind you.

"You remind me a little of my daughter." Sadness glints in his eyes before he turns back to Vash. "And here lies our problem. We are plagued by the traffickers from December. Apparently there is a clientele for people, and the Snatchers keep coming to our region to kidnap our families. We have been trying to do our best, but the December government ignores our pleas, saying our claims are outrageous and neither November nor July want to get mixed up in this. Many towns and villages between here and December have been abandoned already. We are weakened; we can't keep a constant watch for the Snatchers and lowlife bandits, too. It's too much, and on top of that... we don't know what has happened to our loved ones. They took my daughter and my sister, too. Many have lost their children and wives to these monsters. We aren't strong enough to get them back. But if you are truly the Humanoid Typhoon... with your reputation, surely you could put an end to these horrors. We don't have much money, but we will be able to scratch something together. Everyone will pitch in to get their loved ones back."

"Alright," Vash nods after Mr. Donovan is done speaking. "We don't want your money. All I ask is that you let these men go."

He points at the figures on the ground, most rubbing their heads and trying to get a bearing on what is going on. Their leader's eyes are wide as they stare at Vash.

"Don't shed any more blood. You need everyone to keep strong. Juukei and the surrounding villages need to keep a united front if we're going to December," his voice is resolute.

"If that is all you want, I humbly beg for your help, Vash the Stampede." The mayor puts away his revolver and slightly lowers his head.

Vash looks over to you, and you give a reassuring nod. A slight smile dances on your lips. He turns back to the man in front of him.

"You've got a deal. We will go to December to put an end to the Snatchers. We will get your people back; we will try," Vash says to Jesse, and you swallow at his last declaration. You don't know who the people are sold to or for what purpose. People can be incredibly cruel; you speak from experience, so all you can do is to hope that you can find them and they are able to come back. At the very least, you need to stop the Snatchers and keep them from doing more harm to these communities.

Mayor Donovan and Vash shake hands before the older man shakes yours too again, muttering words of gratitude. He promises to fund any gear and bullets you may need. The bandits leave town on foot, stripped of their weapons, and the townsfolk, while still careful, approach you to confirm what they just heard.

"No more Gretchen's boy" said Hazel into Oscar's ear before setting him down and walking back to where Salem was currently holding down a frightened Emerald.

"I really don't know!" Emerald spoke fear laced in her voice as the purple magic in Salems hand edged ever closer to her face.

She shut her eyes as Salem raised her hand preparing to strike only for Hazel to punch Salem sending her flying only for her to start levitating.

The magic holding Emerald hostaged now released, which meant Yang, Ren and Jaune were free as well.

I’m bored so I decided to put together my theory on what the first cour of season 2 is gonna look like. This is pretty standard, but I wanted to put this out there so I can see how off I was when the season starts.

Spoilers under the cut!

Episode 1: Chapter 43 & Ending of Chapter 45

I think it makes a lot of sense that the first episode of the season be this, because it reintroduces a lot of the main characters we deal with (Tohru/Kyo/Yuki/Uo/Hana/Momiji/Haru) while also introducing, officially, Rin and establishing her relationship with Haru and their break up. Also reminds the audience of the gang’s teacher, Mayu, as she will come up a lot more later.

Episode 2: Chapter 36 & 42

Starting the episode off with Yuki and Tohru visiting Ayame’s shop, especially after my guess of the first episode is a good because in Chapter 43 Yuki notices Kyo protecting Tohru, and then here he “flirts” with Tohru because that’s what he thinks he’s suppose to do. Plus, we already got a sneak peak of Mine in the season 1 second cour opening, so it makes sense to me that they’d introduce her early in season 2. And based on my own shot my shot of the season 2 trailer, it can be assumed we are getting another Prince Yuki Fan Club episode, so makes sense to make this whole episode Yuki-centric by making the second half of the episode about the club trying to find out if a girl Machi is going to be on the student council.

Episode 3: Chapter 46 & 47

Already established in season 1 ep 25 that summer is coming soon, so this last school related episode needed to be within the first 5 episodes, I think. We get Uo bringing up meeting Kureno, and the Career Goals & Parent/Teacher conferences set up for after summer break, Kyoru!, and Shigure’s laundry metaphor. And with the first half having a lot of Kyo, it balances out with ending the episode with Yuki’s quality time moment with Ayame.

Episode 4: Chapter 48 & 49

Okay, don’t hate me, but....I feel like they won’t include the Haunted House portion of Chapter 48. I get that it’s very funny and a fan favorite, but the big moments in that chapter were the announcement of summer vacation, and Rin’s introduction. The Haunted House was filler. Since we already got Rin’s introduction, I think the episode will have some additional stuff with Kakeru and Machi, as they are important but we don’t see them for 14ish chapters after this so they’ll want to have a bit stronger introductions so new fans remember them. 

Episode 5: Chapter 50

I was debating what they would combine Kureno and Uo’s chapter with, but then I kept thinking ‘there really isn’t any other chapter that would make sense.’ So I would guess they might give these two their own episode. They might throw in more filler between Uo, Tohru, Hana, and Megumi at the end, or with Kureno to establish him more, but otherwise this episode will solely be about them I think.

Episode 6: Chapter 52 & 53

A much anticipated Kyoru episode for my anyway, with Kyo and Tohru visiting Kazuma at his home. We get introduced to a favorite small character of mine, Kunimitsu, but we also get introduced to Kyo’s birth father. Combining this chapter with chapter 53 also helps segue us into the Summer House arc, gives us another touch of Rin, and more details on the Hat.

Episode 7: Chapter 54 & 55

The Beach House arc is very expansive, but with the Hatori chapters it’s a nice break up of them. 54 and 55 have nice fun bits, lulling the fans into a false sense of security of what these next few episodes will entail. The last 15 - 10 minutes will have that bit with Tohru reacting to what Hiro said about her parents, and Kyo being the only one to notice that something is off with her.

Episode 8: Chapter 56 & 57

Like I said, a nice break before we get to the dark stuff. And even then this episode would get pretty sad since we’re learning about Mayu, and her own past with Hatori, Kana, and Shigure. But it gets lighter towards the end with Mayu and Hatori reuniting and hinting at the two of them finding happiness with each other. We also don’t see much of the two together again until the end of the series, so I’m hoping for a bit more hints of the two seeing each other later on in the anime - since we got more scenes with Ritsu and Mitchan I want more Mayu and Hatori!

Episode 9: Chapter 58 & 59

And here we go into some “fun” times. Smashing watermelons and Kyo and Tohru talking about their parents, Akito arrives at the Summer house, forcing the zodiac away from Tohru and Kyo jokes on you Akito, Tohru is happy being alone with Kyo, Akito and Yuki have their private confrontation, we find out Yuki was the one who saved Tohru when she was lost, and we also get Yuki’s internal “confession” of ‘I love you’ regarding Tohru.

Episode 10: Chapter 60 & 61

Definitely gonna be building up some tension here, Akito there lurking over them all, pulling the zodiac away from Tohru, as well as Tohru finally meeting Rin. Great cliffhanger for the episode too, with Akito dramatically demanding they bring Kyo the next day.

Episode 11: Chapter 62 & 63

WOW. This is a very big episode for Kyoru fans. We get Kyo and Akito’s confrontation, as well as learning about their bet, and Kyo’s realization that he is in love with Tohru, and the flashbacks showing Kyoko and revealing that Kyo appeared to have known Kyoko as a child. It’s a very big episode, but also leads into an even BIGGER episode. I can only imagine the stress we’ll all be feeling.

Episode 12: Chapter 64 & 65

Oh, the biggie. I, personally, am not ready to see my boy Momiji getting hurt, but we’ll have to. We have Tohru and Akito’s confrontation and Akito telling her of the zodiac’s destiny, including Kyo’s, and Akito’s role in the zodiac as well. We also have Tohru’s introduction to Kureno, and Tohru’s decision to break the curse.

Episode 13: Chapter 66 & 67

Now, I would think the first cour would end with the Beach House arc, but the first cour of season 1 ended with episode 13, so I think this will also be ending with episode 13 too. Plus, with the second teaser trailer, we hear Tohru say “I want to try to break the curse.” And she thinks that to herself at the end of Chapter 65, but she also says that to Kazuma in chapter 67, so it’s not too out there to think that’s where the clip is from. And, we are introduced to the remaining members of the Student Council working with Yuki, which makes sense to me to introduce the last of the members before the end of the first cour. So I think ending the first cour with them returning to school and Tohru reaching out to Kazuma for knowledge on how to break the curse is a good ending point, and sort of wraps the whole first cour up nicely.

My Speculative Furuba Season 2, 1st Cour Episodes Outline

This is all just pure speculation at this point, but now that we have some idea of the contents of Episode 2, based off of the preview images, I decided to write this up. SPOILERS!

Episode 1 - Ch. 42 + 49 (Motoko stuff + Machi and Kakeru)

Episode 2 - Ch. 46 + 52 (Soumen + Kyo and Tohru visiting Kazuma)

Episode 3 - Ch. 36 + 47 (Ayame’s Shop + Yuki and Ayame bonding)

Episode 4 - Ch. 43 + 48 (+ Haru moments from Ritsu’s chapters)

I mainly stuck with the two chapters per episode pacing. Though I can see them maybe doing some one chapter only with some anime original content or previous cut moments being used to fill out episodes here and there. But ending with the Kagura and Kyo stuff + the Rin and Haru stuff is a good way to transition from the end of the Beach Arc into the next part with the Parent-Teacher Conferences and such. This is all just for fun and speculation. It will be interesting to see how they decide to do it! :D

Their Hero Academia – Chapter 63: Final Exam part 5: Final Essay

Presenting the next raw and unedited chapter of my on-going, next-gen, My Hero Academia fic, Their Hero Academia!   Please note, this chapter may undergo more extensive editing before it gets posted to AO3/FF.net, as there’s a lot of fight scenes that may need clarity editing.

At the last moment, before Kamuy had launched her shockwave, some instinct had prompted Izumi to throw up an ice shield.  Desperately, faster than she ever had before, she’d leached heat from the air, forming a protective wall in front of her, reinforcing it even against the shockwave that had followed.   She regretted immediately that she was unable to extend her protections to Chihiro or to any of her other classmates.

When the ringing in her head cleared and she was able to see again, a moment of fear touched her heart, an icy stab into the heat she had absorbed and that suffused her body. Chihiro, Ojiro, Aoyama, and Asuka were all on the ground, alive, but very clearly knocked out.  As skilled and powerful as her classmates were, against such overwhelming force, they had no defense.  She had hoped that Asuka’s Frog-Shadow might have been able to protect her, armoring her as she had during the Sports Festival, but such, it seemed, was not to be.

And all Izumi had done was protect herself.  Her teachers, as well as Katsumi, would say that insuring her own safety had meant she could continue to act and protect others.  But it did nothing to ease the guilt she felt.

Kamuy, it seemed, was still standing, admiring her handiwork.  She’d lost a bit of mass from expelling her accumulated energy, but still remained a large and imposing foe.  That she seemed to be able to hold onto the energy she absorbed until she needed it was enviable.  The bands of Izumi’s regulator rig were screaming an angry red, a sign she needed expel heat and expel it quickly.  

“Still standing?” Kamuy taunted.  “Pretty impressive.  I wouldn’t think a little twig like you would last this long.”

With some amount of satisfaction, Izumi realized that Kamuy was a very big target indeed.

“But a twig, properly propelled,” she said, bringing her hands up, “can pierce even the mighty oak.”

Izumi reached inside herself and found the heat she had been storing, like a crimson hot core inside her. But instead of changing it into fire, she put to use the training that Uncle Denki had helped her with, expelling the heat directly.  The very air in front of her turned wavy and shimmery, refracting from all the heat she was putting out into it.

“Hey…” growled Kamuy, “what’re you doing…?”  Already the big woman was sweating so hard it was pouring off of her and soaking through her clothes. Her breaths coming in ragged gasps, each one clearly a struggle. She swayed, unsteady on her feet, as though a stiff breeze might soon blow her over.

“Whatever you’re doing… cut it… out…”  Kamuy took a few ineffective swings as thin air, as though that might stop the heat assault.  But as addled as she was, they were clumsy, weak, and ineffective, with no power behind them.  Izumi knew she was threading a careful line.  Too much heat could kill a person easily and she had no desire to be a murderer, especially given that this was only an exam.  But nor did she wish to give Kamuy a chance to recover and possibly hurt her or her friends.

Kamuy began glowing and steaming again, losing mass as she poured her energy into resisting Izumi’s attack.  Step by step, she pushed her way forward, even as the concrete beneath her feet began to soften from the heat she was enduring.  That was unfortunate.  Processing this much heat as once, pushing her Quirk as far as it would go, Izumi could feel the strain upon herself and she did not know how long she could maintain this level of exertion.  Her knees were starting to feel weak and even keeping her arms up to keep pointing at Kamuy was beginning to become a strain.  Her arms traced small circles in the air as she failed to hold them straight.

And still, Kamuy came closer.  The Villain took step after step after step, her face twisted in a grimace as she fought for every inch.   But Izumi would make her fight for that, even if it cost her dearly, even if she collapsed.  Because every second this woman spent fighting her was one that gave her classmates and friends time to overcome the other Villains.

They were counting on her. Everyone was counting on her.  She could not, would not, be the reason that they failed!

And still Kamuy came onward, trailing steam like some ancient and slow moving train.  “You… gotta… be… just… about… out… kid,” she hissed. “Those damn… blinky lights… are a dead… giveaway.”

Damnation, she was right! Izumi was just about out of heat to throw at her, the crimson hot core she’d been drawing on depleted, the bands of her regulator rig showing a green that would have, in any other circumstances, been reassuring.  

Now, it was a little terrifying.

The wave of heat stopped abruptly, as she exhausted her last reserve.  The change in the air was immediate and Kamuy instantly stood a little taller, a little stronger, though it was clear surviving the assault had cost her dearly.  Her own reserves must have been nearly as depleted as Izumi’s were.   Though that still left her a large and muscular foe. She could still overpower Izumi. She was a fit girl, especially for one with her chronic health issues, but there was no comparison.

So she had to end this now.

Kamuy rushed her, fist draw back to strike, and Izumi acted on instinct, her body and Quirk moving before she even had a chance to think.  Thick ice shot up around Kamuy, covering her body and lifting her off the ground in an instant.  On her regulator rig, the bands changed from a safe green to cautionary orange without ever even passing through the alerting yellow.  The temperature around her had dropped by several degrees, enough that, for a moment, Izumi could see her breath on the air.

But when it was done, Kamuy was entombed in a pillar of ice, only her head and fingertips poking out. She hadn’t frozen her solid, so there was probably minimal risk of cell death.  But she had beaten her.  She had won.

And still she remained standing.  Izumi had pushed her Quirk and pushed it hard.  But she had not given in to her weakness, had not fallen.

But she could not celebrate her accomplishments, not now.  Not when the others were still battling.

She would celebrate when they won, but the personal victory would lend her strength to continue the fight.

Things, Katsumi thought, had pretty much gone to shit.  The Villain called Jawbreaker had grown to monstrous size and mass, towering over all of them by more than a meter.  More than that in her case; height was not her friend.  Now made of metal, rock, and concrete, he was shrugging off everything they could throw at him.  She still ached from where he had hit her, with a fist that was nearly as big as she was tall.

But she’d be damned if she was going to go down without a fight, even if she was completely out of ammo for her disk-launchers.  She hadn’t backed down in the face of a damned Nomu, she wasn’t about to back down in the face of some Villain Aiazwa had gotten from somewhere to play rent-a-goon. Some part of her was afraid though. Not for herself, but for Izzy. She knew she shouldn’t be, knew that Izzy had more than proven she was capable of taking care of herself, but the thought still remained.  She pushed it down, channeling it into something she could use.  The sooner she clobbered this guy, the sooner she could check on her.

Jawbreaker let out a laugh, his punch connecting solidly with Toshi.  Toshi had amped up his gravity enough that he was starting to sink into the ground, but the blow was still enough to push him back, gouging deep troughs in the street.  A second blow hit even harder, sending Toshi smashing into the side of a building again. Above Jawbreaker, the Iida twins swooped down again and again, ineffectively striking against him.  The Villain—though faster than he looked—was still not fast enough to catch them.  Both broke off the attack.  Sora to check on Toshi, Tensei to get space to think through his next move.

“Okay, you two,” she told Shinso and Haimawari. “I’ll knock him off his feet, you know him down. You’ll know it when you see it. Jetset!  Give me a distraction!”

Haimawari nodded. “Got it.  Bring the boom.”

Shinso nodded rapidly, head bobbing like it was on a spring.  “Got it!” he said.  “Going to have to hit him *really* hard though!  He’s tough!”

A grin spread across Katsumi’s face.  “Ain’t nothing tougher than me.”  She cracked her knuckles.  “And Newb? Only I get to bring the boom.”

“Arms!  Rocky!” she shouted.  “Clear the way!  Big boom coming through!”

At her shout, Shoji and Koda backed off from their assaults on Jawbreaker.  Koda had fast grown a thick redwood tree and Shoji had used his incredible strength to turn it into an improvised club.  It hadn’t done any good.  Jawbreaker had ever taken a big bite out of it, added hard wood to his make-up as well.

Tensei Iida swooped down from the sky, smashing both fists into Jawbreaker’s skull.  There was a metal on metal clang, but Jawbreaker wasn’t hurt in the slightest.  He swung wildly at Iida again, and this time he Iida was just a little too slow.  Jawbreaker’s fingers closed around his legs and he slammed Iida into the ground again and again.  With a grunt, he tossed the boy over his shoulder.  There. She hadn’t meant for that to happen… but that was her opening.

Katsumi slapped a palm on the ground, extending her explosive power through it, triggering a series of increasingly large explosions in a rapid-fire, firecracker line that lead straight to Jawbreaker.  She concentrated, putting as much power as she could into the last one.

KABOOM!

For just a moment, the explosion caught Jawbreaker off-balance, sending him teetering on his feet. “What the hell…?!”  the Villain cried out, arms swinging wildly.

“Now!” Katsumi bellowed.

For all the times they’ve bugged the hell out of her, Shinso and Haimawari are good at following orders. And more importantly, they can hit hard. Shinso sucked in a breath and unleashed another blast of sonic force, her own proximity to it making Katsumi wince from the noise, while Haimawari braced himself and unleashed another blue-white blast.  Both attacks struck Jawbreaker dead on, with enough force to land him smack on his back. It made a sound somewhere between a building collapsing, an avalanche, and a trash can rolling down the stairs.

“Rocky!” Katsumi shouted again.  “Tie him up!”

“I am on it, Bombshell,” Koda said, tossing more seeds.  They began growing instantly, ensnaring Jawbreaker with thick, thorny vines, weaving all around his body and limbs.

Jawbreaker was already struggling against them, even as Koda tried to keep the pace, growing them as vast as they were destroyed.  Dammit. Koda’s vines alone weren’t going to be enough.  Time for what was usually her Plan A:  Overwhelming Force.  “We hit him,” she said.  “Hard. Now.  Everything we’ve got.”

It was already too late. Jawbreaker let out a laugh.  “It takes more than that to keep me down,” he said. He was already getting back on his feet. Vines snapped like twine.   “We’re in the home stretch too.   That means the kid gloves come off!”

He lashed out and despite having seen it several times over, she still couldn’t believe how someone that big could move that fast.   Koda and Shoji, the closest, paid the price for her few seconds of hesitation.  Shoji threw himself in front of Koda, using all six of his arms to block Jawbreaker’s strike, but jawbreaker brought his other arm around and slammed it into Shoji from the side.  He went flying and when he landed, he did not get up.

Koda lasted only a moment longer, trying reaching into her pouches for more seeds.  She fast-grew a circle of trees around Jawbreaker, briefly trapping him, until he simply punched his way through and took her down with another swipe of his massive, multi-element fists.

It had all happened so fast, she hadn’t even had time to move.  But now, she was spurred into action.   “Get that fucker!” she shouted, rushing forward.

Behind her, she could hear the sounds of Shinso and Haimawari firing again, their blasts sailing past her to strike Jawbreaker.  She had to trust that they were going to do their jobs, because the bad guy in front of her was all that she could see.

Fortunately, Koda’s failed attempts at containment had provided her with plenty of ammunition. She quickly grabbed shards of the felled trees and tossed them at Jawbreaker, peppering him with small explosions.  Even putting everything she had into them… it wasn’t enough.  Nothing left to make a big enough boom with.

“Hey, ugly!” she shouted, grabbing a handful of splintery pieces of wood in each hand.  When he turned to look at her she tossed them all at his face, letting them explode like little firecrackers.

Here, he actually screamed, one hand going to cover his face, the other swinging wildly and easy to dodge.  As his hand swung by, she slapped it with her own.  The material of her gloves now let her channel her explosive power through them directly, and the explosion she created charred his transformed flesh.  

“Yeah!” Shinso cried out. “We’ve got him now!”  He hit Jawbreaker with another sonic scream.

“”Blast now, brag later, Shinso!” Haimawari called out.  He was zipping around Jawbreaker’s other side, his feet and one hand on the ground, his other hand in the air and unleashing a barrage of low-powered blasts. They weren’t strong enough to do much—if any—damage, but they served as yet another distraction.

“Katsumi!”  a voice—Toshi’s—cried out.  “Give me an opening!”

She grinned again, slapping both hands on the ground again and setting off a powerful explosion. This close to it, the explosion left even her ears ringing, but it did the job, further throwing Jawbreaker off balance from already having been temporarily blinded.

She heard the roar of Sora Iida’s engines before she saw the two of them, zooming towards Jawbreaker and Sora carrying Toshi by the wrists.  At the last second, she released him and judging by how big of a clang the impact of Toshi’s body made with Jawbreaker’s, he must have gone about as far up on his gravity as he could.  He pushed off the Villain’s body and landed next to her.  The blow managed to stagger the giant for a moment, at least.

“About time you stopped loafing around,” Katsumi said.  

“Give me a break,” Toshi replied.  “I’ve been hit a lot today.”

Jawbreaker reared up and was ready to strike again.  Some guys just took a lot of hitting, it seemed.

Before Jawbreaker could strike again, a blast of fire hit him square on, setting fire to parts of his body that were made of wood.   He let out a cry of alarm and smarted smacking at the burns, trying to smother them. Thick ice walls followed, briefly blocking him off.  Toshi risked turning his head to find the source of the blast and was greeted with the sight of Izumi propelling herself along an ice slide to meet them.  

“Glad you could join us, Iz,” Katsumi said.  

“Well, someone clearly has to keep you out of trouble,” Izumi replied.  “As always.”

“Was that a joke?  You pick now to start telling jokes?”

Izumi’s arrival meant good news and bad news.  It meant they were down to one just one Villain to deal with.  But it also meant…

The sound of fists on the ice wall told him they didn’t have much time.

“The others?” he asked.

Izumu shook her head. “All defeated.”

They were it then.  Six of them against a Villain who just kept taking whatever they had and kept coming back for more.  It was only then that Toshi realized there was a question he’d been reluctant to ask.  He shouldn’t have.  One of Dad’s often told stories was how Grandpa Might and he had first met, when Grandpa Might had smashed the Sludge Villain to pieces…  

It was an extreme solution. One he hadn’t wanted to suggest they try.  

“Shota,” he said quickly, as cracks were appearing in the ice wall.  Maybe just a couple more blows.  “Has Jawbreaker ever been smashed or broken by a Hero?”  

Shota’s purple eyes went wide.  “Oh, a bunch of times!  Sometimes, he just eats more and it grows back, and sometimes he gets so smashed up it makes him change back, but all his people parts are still there!”

“Saying we should go all out, Midoriya?” Haimawari asked. Between his goggles and bandanna, his expression was almost unreadable, but Toshi could hear the doubt in his voice. “That’s a lot to throw at a guy who’s just testing us.”

Toshi nodded.  “The real world’s not a test.  You hold back too much there… Villains like him will kill you.”

“Okay then,” Haimawari said. “I… might have something.”

“Make it quick, Newb,” Katsumi said.

Haimawari told them his idea.  Toshi had to admit, it was a pretty good one.  “Then we’ll do it like that then,” he said.  And then there was no more time.

The ice wall shattered, Jawbreaker breaking free.  “That really hurt, kid,” he growled.  Patches of wood on his body showed deep burn marks, but he seemed just as large and stroke as eve.  “My turn!”

“Hit him!” Toshi yelled. “Everything you’ve got! Izumi—containment!  Everyone else… hit him!”

Izumi was first, unleashing a powerful wave of ice that entrapped Jawbreaker from the waist down, trapping his lower body in a block of ice.   It was already cracking against his great strength.  But Izumi was hardly alone in her attacks and it only needed to give them an opening.

Shota hit him with another sonic blast.  It shattered the rest of the ice, but it hit him hard, kept him off balance.  He must have taken in a pretty big breath beforehand, because the beam was strong and sustained.  Haimawari quickly zipped behind him, then powered up for a focused, intense blast.  He couldn’t sustain a single beam like Shota and required a moment to charge up a stronger shot, but he was bringing everything he had.

Sora hammered him with a series of rocket propelled blows, raising a small series of cracks on Jawbreaker’s body, never standing still for a moment.  With what had happened to her brother, she wasn’t letting up at all. Bombarded already by Shota and Haimawari, he stood little chance of catching her.

Katsumi, freed from any need to hold back, went all out, tossing whatever she could at him, hitting him with explosions big and small.   She kept herself light on her feet, never staying in one place for long, but steadily getting closer. Dodging under one of Jawbreaker’s strikes, she reached up and slapped her hand against his arm.

KABOOM!

Jawbreaker let out a scream as his left arm exploded.  The sight and sound of it was more than enough to give everyone pause.  Even knowing he had asked his friends to go all out, Toshi felt guilty for it.  It looked like it had to hurt.  

It was also the opening he needed.   Toshi forced himself not to think about the harm that he had done and took a couple steps back, canceled his gravity, and jumped, launching himself at Jawbreaker like a missile.

But even in pain, Jawbreaker was ready and swung a massive arm.  He hit Toshi full on, just as Toshi had shifted to full gravity.  There was a satisfying sound of cracking, but so powerful was the blow that Toshi went flying anyway, smashing into and through the building across the street.

As he landed, Toshi heard a rumble and struggled to stand, but couldn’t get his feet under him.  The building creaked…

And came down on him.

 “Toshi!” Sora Iida screamed, dropping to the ground with far less grace than usual.  She tapped the side of her helmet.  “Toshi, come in!  Speak to me!”

No response over the comms wasn’t good.  It meant Midoriya was unconscious or hurt or…   No. Isamu instantly pushed that thought aside.  The teachers wouldn’t have allowed that to happen.  They were monitoring them, of course.  Watching them.  If Midoriya were really hurt, they’d have stopped the test, gotten Doctor Izumi out. Hell, his grandfather would probably have already been out here, digging through the rubble.

It didn’t mean Midoriya was going to be rejoining the fight any time soon though.   Which was… not good.  Deprived of one of the strongest Quirks in the class, it left them were a lot fewer options for fighting Jawbreaker.

“Word of advice, kid?” Jawbreaker said.  “Don’t take your eye off the Villain!”   He lashed out with his remaining arm and struck Iida hard, seeming not to notice the spider-web of cracks that spread up his arm from the blow.   The red and silver armored girl went flying and did not get up when she landed.

Jawbreaker dug his fingers into the ground, breaking up the street to shovel more pavement into his mouth. As he did, his left arm started growing back, now being made entirely out of pavement.   Isamu wasn’t sure how much time they had left in the exam… but he was certain having a Villain like this still rampaging about wasn’t going to do their scores any good.

“And you shouldn’t take your eyes off me!”  Kirishima-Bakugo, now behind the Villain, shouted.  She once again placed both hands on the ground and channeled a powerful explosion through it.  The ground around him exploded in a series of bangs that were more flash than flare, momentarily stunning him.  

“I think I have done just about all I can,” Izumi announced.  “Katsumi, gentlemen, if you would?”

“What the hell are you talking about, kid?” Jawbreaker snarled.  “Haven’t you seen yet that none of you are beating me?”

“Yeah, well,” Isamu said. “That’s where you’re wrong.”

“We tricked you!” Shinso shouted.  “We tricked you good!”

“What are you…?” Jawbreaker began, and only then did he notice all the spider-web cracks that had appeared all over his body, all the places he had hit and been hit.  At the layer of shining frost that had formed all over his body.

When Shinso had mentioned that Jawbreaker could be shattered and reform without killing him, Isamu’s mind had kicked into overdrive.  Short of Shinso’s disintegrating scream thing or Kirishima-Bakugo pumping out way more explosive power than he’d ever seen her do before, none of them could have possibly done enough damage to him to completely slow him down.  They could blow off limbs, as Kirishima-Bakugo had managed to do, but that was riskier and required more precision targeting.  And as they had seen, he could just consume more to regrow them.

Instead, while the rest of them kept him distracted, Izumi had slowly been leeching heat from the material of his body directly, slowly freezing him up little by little. Midoriya should have been the one to deliver the final blow, but…

As realization dawned on Jawbreaker’s face, they let him have it.  Kirishima-Bakugo unleashed another wave of explosions across the ground, Shinso screamed and unleashed a powerful wave of sonic force, and Isamu put everything he had into his blast, firing his repulsion force outward in one massive shot.

The attacks hit Jawbreaker all at once, exploding the majority of his body into a shower of frozen shards.   His head and shoulders hit the ground with a groan, still very conscious.

“You kids haven’t won yet…” he growled, trying to tilt so he could begin eating the street again.

But then Izumi acted again, shooting a pillar of ice up beneath him that then wrapped around the head, completely encasing it in ice.

There was a long, quiet moment before any of them could even breathe.

“Did we… did we do it?” Shinso asked.

“I, ah, I think we did,” Isamu said, scarcely believing the words out of his own mouth.

“Damn right we did,” Kirhsima-Bakugo said.   “Thanks to Izzy here.”

Izumi bowed her head, then held up a hand.  The bands of her uniform were glowing orange and perspiration covered her face, but she was still standing strong.  He’d been worried that she might have to push herself too far with his plan, but she’d offered herself up for it anyway.  “A group effort.  I am owed no more praise than any other.”

Another quiet moment followed, as the rush of battle began to wear off.  Isamu was already thinking they needed to check on Midoriya and the others who’d been knocked around over the course of the exam.  Which he would do.  Just as soon as his heartrate returned to normal.

“But,” Shinso said, “then why isn’t anyone telling us it’s over.  Shouldn’t there be a bell or alarm or something.”

Damn.  He was right.

“Looking for this, Heroes?” a voice called out.  Across the street, in the shadow of a building, was Shadow-Thief.  And she was holding Recovery Girl.  Or rather… Doctor McGuffin!  “Guess you’re too late!”

She disappeared again, reappearing in the shadows further up.  Isamu had a good eye for distance.  They’d been told they couldn’t allow Doctor McGuffin to get more than 100 meters from the shelter, or they’d lose.  He estimated she’d already made it 50 meters…

“Put me down, you hooligan!” Recovery Girl snapped, smacking her fists against Shadow-Thief’s head and shoulders.  “Kids these days, no respect for their elders!”

“Ow!  Ow!  Stop hitting me, old woman!  You’re supposed to be playing along!” Shadow-Thief vanished again, disappearing and reappearing even further away.

Too far for anyone to blast her, too far for Izumi to trap her with ice, all of which were too risky to begin with.  Too far for anything.

Anything but him.

Isamu threw himself forward and called upon his Quirk.  He thought he’d put everything he had into that last blast again Jawbreaker.  He turned out to be wrong, blasting himself forward with reserves he hadn’t thought he’d had.

It hurt, like a burning sensation in his hands and feet, and he could feel exhaustion threatening to claim him the longer he did it, buildings speeding by as he pushed and pushed and pushed every ounce of repulsive force he had left in his body.

Shadow-Thief was still getting away.   Twenty-five meters until the boundary.   Twenty meters.  Fifteen. Ten.   He was getting closer…  so close….   Five meters…  He just needed one last push!

There were no shadows big enough left, forcing Shadow-Thief to try and run the last five meters. Isamu unleashed every last ounce of energy within him and shot forward like a paperclip from a rubber band.  He smacked into her legs just before she made it the final meter.

Recovery Girl went sailing into the air and he desperately disentangled himself from Shadow Thief, getting under the elderly woman just in time to catch her, sinking to his knees.

Somewhere, an alarm sounded, signaling the end of the three hours of their exam.

It was the last thing Isamu heard before he passed out.

Latvia In The Manga

Latvia has appeared in multiple strips, dating back to the main story line of the webcomic. He makes his debut in Hetare 4: Pact of Steel in a few brief shots that include him and Estonia trembling from behind a wall, the two of them being awaken after Lithuania wakes up yelling from his dream about Poland, and them trembling again as Russia reads Poland's letter. He also appears in Hetare 5: Lietuvis!! where Russia becomes fascinated over a facet pipe and Latvia is ecstatic at the the fact that water flows through it. When Latvia plays with the facet, an uncomfortable blank stare forms on Russia's face. The following panel shows a baffled Germany as he watches from his window He later makes a brief cameo with Russia and the other two Baltics when they arrive at Germany's house for a meeting. After a few strange occurrences, Russia begins to smash holes in Germany's ceiling. The damage causes it to crumble and Japan falls through and lands on top of Latvia, leaving Estonia and Lithuania to yell out his name in panic.

In Comic Diary 4, Estonia decides that he'll stop calling out Latvia's name when something bad happens but when something hits Latvia in the head, he ends up yelling out his name in mid-sentence. In the strip, Let's go take a look at Estonia, Latvia has a small cameo where he is shown playing with a sheep in the background and Estonia later finds Latvia's head stuck inside the sheep's mouth and yells out his name in distress. In the strip, Truly Just a Scribble Comic, Russia takes notice of Latvia's constant shaking. He grabs a hold of him and Latvia begins to tremble enough that his soul gains wings and escapes his body. In Soviets, both Latvia and Estonia praise Lithuania highly but the second he leaves to meet up with Poland, the air between the two men becomes antipathetic. In The Violent Sve of Northern Europe Takes a Mighty Swing! Latvia is delighted to see Finland arrive after he and Sweden fled Denmark's home. When Sweden decides to take him and Estonia with him and Finland back home, Latvia anxiously says they would have to ask for Poland's approval. In the end, Sweden later gains partial custody over him and Estonia, but only due to Poland getting "stranger anxiety."

Latvia is often seen in strips focusing on Sealand. In It's Sealand! Latvia stabs Sealand in the shoulder with a lily of the valley but apologizes and the two later become friends. Latvia decides to be a big brother figure towards Sealand and gives him advice on how to grow as a country. However Latvia eventually breaks down in tears but thanks him after Sealand cheers up by saying they're both work hard to get stronger. In With Sealand!, he often sends distressing calls to Latvia throughout the strip when something doesn't go right. This strip was republished in volume 3 the name, Keep Moving!! March Forward, Sealand! In The Principality of Wy & the Mysterious Sealand, Latvia hears the news that Wy has declared independence from Australia and knowing that Sealand has mostly likely already heard the news, he decides to call him to check up on him. Thinking he would be crying over it, he is relieved to know the two micronations have become friends. This strip was republished in volume 4 under the name, Keep on moving!! March Forward, Sealand!

Latvia appears in all volumes except for the fifth one, however most of his appearances end up comprising of brief and small cameos. In volume 1, he makes a small appearance in Meeting of the World where Belarus has a nice against his back.He makes his official debut in the strip A Natural Rags-to-Riches Story, where he is living at Russia's house with the other two Baltics. When Latvia says something he shouldn't have towards Russia, Estonia walks out nervously, stating he's going to make some tea. In the following panels, Russia asks where his coat is and Latvia chimes in saying he donated it to musuem, saying it looked like "a priceless artifact". Latvia however begins to tremble and apologize profusely after Russia tells him that he was still wearing the coat regularly and bought it recently. In the strip Squished, Russia begins to press down on Latvia's head and asks why Latvia appeared so short, to which he replies he would be 10 centimeters taller if he didn't press down on his head so much. In the following scene, Latvia states he hates living with Russia and would much rather rely on Germany instead while Lithuania refuses, thinking he is way too scary. In a change of conversation, they talk about dinner and each want a different meal. In the last panel, Latvia agrees with Lithuania and Estonia that they are too different to be considered "The Three Baltic States". These two strips were combined in Chapter 2: Power Ranger Allied Forces. In volume 2 Latvia makes a brief appearance in the strip, Unrequited Love, showing a panel of the numerous faces that lived in Russia's house. In Don't Think Too Much Into It, Latvia says he would like to have a sibling to which Estonia and Lithuania give him odd looks.. Both these strips were combined within the Russia's Big and Little Sister chapter. In volumes 3 and 4, Latvia appears in a reprinted versions of With Sealand! and The Principality of Wy & the Mysterious Sealand. Latvia is also mentioned by Estonia as part of the Choir Club on a part-time basis and their club is frequently targeted by the Soviet Union Club (which Russia is the only member of) in the strip, Gakuen Hetalia: Go Forth! Newspaper Club!! In volume 6, Latvia appears appears in two republished strips, the first being The Nordic Five +α, where Lithuania and Latvia over-hear Estonia wanting to join to the Nordics to Finland. Latvia notes they can't be the Baltic Trio without him but Estonia however states nervously that even if he pulls out, the two could still get by as the Baltic Duo, an idea that Finland thinks won't end well.In the strip A Call for Russia, Russia apologizes for calling the Baltics over so late at night and asks if the three of them had any requests for him that he could fulfill for them. While the other two Baltics have nothing to ask for, Latvia chimes in asking if he could finally have other friends besides Russia like America. Later in the strip, Estonia watches Latvia closely, noting that Latvia can't work hard without a carrot and stick approach. Both these strips were originally published in Comic Birz in March and June 2013 respectively.

In Hetalia: World☆Stars, he has appeared in a few short chapters. In Chapter 63, his first in the series, Estonia is concerned over Latvia's workload however he says that he doesn't mind, replying that medicine and pounding iron is interesting to him and works as his stress relief. Latvia continues on saying that he also plays solo chess as he works. Estonia however replies that it sounds like bragging to him while his inner voice says "That's terrible but good luck." In chapters 93 through 96 where Latvia drifts off into a daydream about bunnies (one of which turns muscular) every time Estonia brags about being grouped in the Nordic group for sports events. Estonia confronts him about this, saying he always goes into a "weird state" whenever he talks about the Nordics. Latvia replies rather nervously and teary-eyed that he tends to escape reality when the topic comes up as he feels that Estonia is tired of being a Baltic country. Estonia is surprised by this and he apologizes, saying it was far from true and only wants to join the Nordics because he wishes to possess the charms of his "cute Baltic side and cool Nordic side." In Chapter 96, Latvia begs Lithuania to step in and stop Estonia's constant chatter about the Nordics but Estonia replies that Latvia's overacting. Lithuania refuses to take sides, replying they were supposed to be a trio and had been falling apart as of late. He proposes they need to be more united just as they did when they declared independence from Russia. However during the flashback, as much as they agreed they were done with Russia, the group was divided on how to go about it with Latvia not mentally ready to leave right away while Estonia chooses to stick with his plan of gradually gaining rights and seizing full authority. The flashback leaves Lithuania unwell and is shown clutching Estonia and Latvia's shoulders roughly. In Chapter 237 and Chapter 238, Latvia and Moldova are the only ones visiting Russia for New Years because of a bad snow storm. Latvia originally didn't want to come but feared the worst would happened if he didn't go. He also picked up Moldova on the way there, calling him "a strange creature".While deciding on what to do for fun, Russia feels going for a swim in the cold weather is the best option. Latvia tries to get out of it by saying it would be too harsh on Moldova. However once Moldova finishes off a quick snack, he says it's not a big deal and announcing that he's going home, leaving Latvia alone with Russia.

Latvia has also appeared in several Kitayume Hetalia holiday events, mostly in small and brief cameos. In Halloween 2006 Comic, Latvia anxiously wonders where Lithuania and Poland are while Estonia replies that Russia went over to meet up with them.In the 2010 Christmas event, Latvia is requested to send a photograph to Finland during their livestream. After he sends the photograph, he slips and falls and Estonia yells out his name in distress. Latvia insists he's doing okay but is upset he dirtied his favorite hoodie. He warns himself to be more careful but is cut off mid-sentence when Parallel France rushes out of the shadows towards him.[49] During the Halloween 2011 event, Latvia arrives at America's Halloween party with the rest of the Baltics, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, dressed in Alice in Wonderland-themed costumes. Later in the event, Latvia is seen shaking on Russia's shoulders when Denmark asks if he's going to put Latvia down before greeting everyone.In an extra comic posted on Himaruya's blog before the event, Latvia has to work the next day and tries to leave but Estonia and Lithuania, who are still partying, keep him from doing so. In the Christmas 2011 event, Estonia is seen briefly riding Mochi!America (who has morphed into a horse-like creature) and saying he will visit Latvia and see his Christmas tree. As Estonia rides off, Latvia thinks he'll bake some cookies for him this year. In the 2013 Halloween event, Latvia runs into Lithuania after being chased by a cat. Latvia says Poland said he was having fun, but adds he was in a corner with tears in his eyes as well. The two men decide to relocate him together and bid farewell to Greece.[54] At the end of the comic, Latvia is seen carrying around a bucket full of screams that others can munch on and is later seen eating several screams himself. Sealand however questions if it's safe to eat as the one Latvia is holding is still twitching.
