joseph likes their neighbour john.

he’s funny, has a cool accent, doesn’t snitch when he catches joseph sneaking out (so long as joseph tells him where he’s going, in case anything were to happen). sometimes he even has his nieces and nephews come around, and joseph likes hanging out with them.

but, what’s most important about their neighbour john, is that he seems to be one of few people that can actually make joseph’s uncle simon laugh.

joseph’s uncle, much like his father, is quiet, introverted. he’ll laugh and smile with immediate family, crack jokes and tell stories and give some damn good advice—but outside of their home, uncle simon always reverts to a calm, polite demeanour, because that’s just how he’s always been around other people.

except for with john. or johnny, as uncle simon calls the neighbour. it makes joseph gag just thinking about how fondly his uncle says it.

but it’s become very obvious, with every time that uncle simon pays them a visit, that if there isn’t something already going on between him and john—joseph would make certain that that would change.

so he gets to work—purposefully kicking his football into john’s backyard and begging his uncle to go retrieve it, causing minor havoc with simon’s car just so john would have to fix it (john’s a mechanic, so joseph knows how to not permanently damage his uncle’s car), claiming there were containers and items that needed to be returned to john. joseph is hellbent on getting them to talk more.

it’s almost miraculous, when john finally invites uncle simon to dinner one of the times simon is on babysitting duty—which was bullshit, joseph is sixteen. but he wastes no time shoving his uncle out the door because finally, finally all his efforts paid off.

and now it’s time to start planning the wedding, obviously.

ghost and soap retiring and have a baby, and someone tells ghost that the kids gonna be just like him. he hates it, loathes the idea of his baby being anything like him. soap catches onto this quick, and over time manages to convince ghost this isn’t a bad thing, and he’d love their kid being just like him. eventually, ghost settles on the bittersweet notion that he’s going to do the best for his baby no matter what. if they turn out like him then he’ll get to see what he would’ve been like if he grew up in a happy home, and had a wonderful childhood.

I like soap being annoying about ghost having a tail

09 ghost sleeps curled up as tight as possible; knees tucked to his chest, arms wrapped protectively around them, wedged into the corner against the wall. anything he can to try and feel secure

that doesn't change when he finally starts staying after sex with mactavish; even with mactavish there he just can't let himself relax. can’t convince himself that he’s safe

mactavish notices; of course he does, he notices everything about riley

that's why he also notices when it starts to change

months pass and riley stops tucking his arms under his legs, instead just loosely holding them to his chest. then his legs start to relax, slowly spreading out until mactavish can fit his arm between them and his chest for riley to latch onto

it takes years, unwinding muscle by muscle before he finally sleeps splayed out across the bed. he doesn't shove himself into the corner anymore

instead, he trusts mactavish; trusts him to have his back, trusts his bulk to hide him from anyone that would burst through the door

he sleeps better with mactavish's arm slung over his waist, his stomach pressing into his back and legs tangled through his own, than he ever did curled into the corner
