The company has already installed a 3.5 MW rooftop solar power plant across its facilities and sources an additional 5 MW of green power through Group Captive Open Access projects. By the end of 2024, Hi-Tech Pipes aims to commission an additional 2 MW rooftop solar generation power plant and source another 3 MW through similar projects. This will bring the company's total green power capacity to 13.5 MW, accounting for approximately 30% of its total power requirements.
Moreover, Hi-Tech Pipes is venturing into the generation and consumption of green hydrogen gas, a critical component of its decarbonization strategy. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a leading renewable energy supplier to develop green hydrogen projects. These projects will be implemented in a time-bound manner, leveraging the supplier’s strong engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) credentials and research and development capabilities.
The planned capacity for green hydrogen gas generation stands at 2.4 lakh cubic meters, marking a significant step towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position India as a global hub for the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen.
Mr. Ajay Kumar Bansal, Chairman of Hi-Tech Pipes Limited, expressed his commitment to driving India’s transition to a greener economy. He emphasized the importance of leveraging green hydrogen and renewable energy to achieve carbon neutrality, in line with the government’s vision. The initial focus of these green hydrogen projects will be at the company’s Sikanderabad plant in Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Bansal highlighted that this initiative would not only support the government’s green hydrogen policy but also provide energy security by reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. N L Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN with prestigious CBIP Individual Award for outstanding contribution in development of Water, Power & RE sector and Best Performing Utility in Hydro Power Sector Award. The awards were presented in a glittering ceremony organized by CBIP in New Delhi today.   Sh. Nand Lal Sharma has been awarded with CBIP Individual Award for outstanding contribution in development of Water, Power and Renewable Energy sector. Under his stalwart leadership, SJVN has witnessed the highest capacity addition since incorporation of the company thirty-four years ago. Persistent efforts of Sh. Sharma has brought the long awaited 210 MW Luhri Stage-I, 66 MW Dhaulasidh, 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Projects and solar projects of 1385 MW into construction. Despite being the world's second largest coal producer, the country experienced a coal supply shortage. However, this time, a lack of availability was not a cause for concern. Instead, problems with coal evacuation and stockpiling at thermal power plants caused a supply shortage. This, combined with an increase in the price of imported coal due to the world's unsettled political climate, resulted in a severe shortage.
The country urgently needs to diversify its electricity generation. Why? Because, even if India avoids the immediate crisis this year, it may not be able to do so in the future.
