The usually sleepy village of Hinamezawa was bustling today, people from all over the village seemingly having things to do. Then again, a lot of people needed to prepare for the night of Watanogashi.

You were currently walking with Keiichi, Satoko and Rika. The plan? To demolish the new dessert menu at the Angel Mart.

“I’m so excited to try the new food! I bet it tastes super yummy!!” Satoko swooned at the idea of sweet cream pastries.

“Satoko, you’re such a child,” Keiichi laughed. Rika giggled as well, just as excited to demolish the new strawberry sundae.

You continued walking along with your friends, joking and laughing about stupid stuff, all the while pestering Rika about the Watanagashi dance she is to perform.

“I can’t show you yeeeeet! It’s a surprise! I can’t wait for you all to see how much hard work I’ve put in, ni-pah!” She grinned. You ruffled her hair affectionately.

“That’s why desserts are on me and Satoko today! You’ve been working so hard to perform, so me and Satoko have been selling bracelets to make some money! Order what you want,” you grinned at your purple-haired friend.

“That’s so sweet, thank you girls!” Keiichi exclaimed as he perused the menu. You, your sister and Rika followed suit before Shion wandered over in her uniform.

“Hi everyone, can I take your order? Oh wow, such cute bracelets girls! Where did you get them?” Shion fawned over the cute little beaded bracelets you had made, cooing at the initials for each one.

“My sister and I made them! We sold a bunch to pay for this little outing, and then we made some for each other, too,” Satoko explained smugly. Shion’s face seemed to drop a little bit at the explanation, before you pulled a small pearl bracelet out of your bag.

“Here Shion, I meant to give this to you but I totally forgot! I have one for Mion too, so if you see her please could you give her it?” You asked her. Shion’s face immediately brightened at the elegant string of beads you gave her, porcelain cheeks tinted a delicate shade of pink.

“O-of course I can! Thank you so much, this is so cute!” She jittered.

“A-as an act of good will, I’ll pay for your desserts out of my wages,” Shion declared, indifferent to your protests. Keiichi was the first to cave, telling Shion which desserts he wanted, followed by Satoko and Rika. You were still pouty when grumbling out your order, much to Shion’s cuteness aggression. She jotted the order and trotted off gleefully to the kitchen.

She clasped the bracelet to her wrist, awing at the time and effort put into it, before glaring at the bracelet for her sister. Mion had been a pain in the ass, keeping secrets and spying on her. She owed her this small bracelet. And so, she clasped Mion’s bracelet under her gloves, so thankful that her little sister loved her enough to make two.

The long-awaited night of Watanagashi finally arrived, and the town was buzzing with life. Rika had been quiet anxious, but if you didn’t know her then she just seemed to ooze confidence. Her perfomance went off without a hitch, each move being carefully calculated and executed without flaw.

She joined you and the rest of the group, bar Mion. Rena was currently cooing at the small bouquet of flowers you had gotten for Rika as a sign of a job well done. She was also sporting a small beaded bracelet; courtesy of you and your sister.

“Ohmygosh, so cuteee!! I could just gobble you up, hee hee!” Rena giggled, causing Shion to glare at her disgustedly. Who the fuck does she think she is, fawning over her little sister like that?!

“Rika, that performance was incredible! You did such a great job! Here, here’s something Satoko and I made!” You passed her the small posy as Rika grew pink, still breathless after her dance.

“Thank you so much, ni-pah! Let’s go around the stalls, I want to play some games!” Rika suggested. You, Satoko and Rika all interlinked arms and walked off, Shion, Rena and Keiichi glaring at each other.

“Actually girls, there’s something cool we found in the forest!”

They were dead. Rika. Mion. Satoko. Keiichi. Takano. Oiichi. Everyone. Shion enticed everyone to the Oyashiro shrine, filled with torture tools and drugged everyone. Mion was already dead, assuming that it was still her with her guts spilling over the tiled floor.

You had been tied to a chair and subjected to watch as each friend was brutally slaughtered in front of you.

And the perpetrators? Shion and Rena. Rena was giggling the entire time she tore off a nail or stabbed out an eye, giggling that her little sister will be kept safe from Oyashiro’s curse now that more than 3 times the amount of people have died or disappeared.

Heart breaking screams of pain and torment poured out of you, pleading with them to stop.

“What’s the matter, little sister? Are we scaring you? We’re only taking away bad people who wanted to harm you!” Shion cackled, eyes reduced to cat like slits.

“P-please Shion, R-Rena! These are our friends, that’s my twin sister! Let us go, PLEASE!” You sobbed, vomit already staining your shirt. Rena’s eyes narrowed.

“Mion was in cohort with the other big families to deal with Oyashiro’s curse. They are responsible for so much death and destruction,” Rena growled.

“Satoko was never a sister to you; she was always bullying you, ignoring you and crying to Satoshi. Your parasite of a sister is the reason why he’s gone! You were the complete opposite though; so helpful and kind and independent. Satoko had to go,” Shion cackled as she stabbed Satoko’s corpse.

“BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OTHERS?! WHAT DID RIKA AND KEIICHI DO?!” You howled and screamed, trying to undo the chains keeping you to the chair. Rena tapped Shion, drawing her attention.

“I think she’s getting too upset. Maybe we should bring her home and allow her to recover. I’ll finish up business here, and you bring our little sister back home,” Rena commanded. Shion looked back to your trembling form, spotting that you had indeed been so frightened that you had pissed yourself, small body racking with dry heaves and sobs.

“Okay little sis, let’s get you home. Big sisses Shion and Rena are here now, and we’re never gonna let anything hurt you again,” Shion cooed, injecting your neck with a sedative as you fought against your hold. Eventually, your body grew limp as Shion moved your hair out of your face.

“It will be difficult sharing her, that’s for sure. But it’s for the best,” Rena reminded Shion. Shion picked you up after unchaining you, holding you closely and petting your hair.

“No one, not even Oyashiro’s curse will take her from me this time. I’ve lost Satoshi, but I will not lose my little sister.”

Hey, Higurashi, can we talk about how much you're jerking me around with these characters? Like, I'll be really heated at one character and then another character I love will do something that makes me mad and I don't know what to do with myself. Props for writing actually complex characters that give you actually complex feelings about them.

Secondly, there is a new cheat that allows you to remove twin status for many sims at once. You can find it in mailbox cheats:

The cheat removes all twin relationships a sim has. So if you want to keep some of them, you should remove it with this cheat and manually add thouse you want by sim cheats.

16.07.2024 UPDATE For Secrets package: Small fix when sharing innermost thoughts interaction doesn't appear Finally finished the mod for identical and fraternal twins! In fact, this is where I started my modding journey - the early scripts for this mod were written a year ago. And yes, I was inspired by the Sonozaki Twins, hence the appropriate nickname x)

This mod automatically recognizes identical and fraternal twins among siblings of the same age in the households being played. The script for automatic recognition runs only in two cases: when loading the game and when a newborn grows into an infant - that is, it loads the game minimally! Gender-different twins and just not similar enough will get the following twin status:

(Yes, these are my beloved twins in my legacy <3) Unlike identical twins, interactions such as "Arguing about uniqueness" and "Pretending to be a twin" are not available to them:

But they also get a special mudlet when they do a school project together:

And being good friends, they can share special secrets and get reactions:

This section of the mod is the largest: it currently has about 30 secrets that are available depending on preferences, character traits, lifestyle, career, and relationships. There's even a special secret for when twins are in love with the same sim x)

The twin's reactions (both positive and negative) also depend on the personality - I tried to make these secrets as close to your sims as possible!

In addition, they will not constantly tell the same thing to each other: firstly, you can tell a secret once every 3-4 days; secondly, already told secrets will not be repeated as long as the circumstances remain the same.

Right now, some secrets are available with Lumpinou's Relationships & Pregnancy Overhaul installed (specifically the M1, M7, and M9 modules). But if you want compatibility with any other mods, by all means tell me! So far, plans are in the works to add secrets with pets, as well as secrets with occult exposure for the Secret Occults by JaneSimsten.

However!!! Keep in mind that even sims-generated monozygotic twins still have differences in genetics - and therefore I couldn't just take two values and compare them, so I added the required percentage of similarity of features and a minimum threshold for appearance to be considered the same.

Also, it's hardly possible to extract specific hair or eye color values from this list (at least, I haven't found a way to do it yet - but I'll keep trying!), so it's possible that your sims may be assigned the wrong status or not assigned at all.

Also, when life expectancy changes (or auto-aging is turned off), the sims may count the exact age of the sims differently, so auto-assignment won't always work correctly.

Don't panic! For this case, and just in case you want to cast twins, I've added cheats in the Cheat Sim Info section where you can control this status:

In the future I'm going to add more secrets, pranks, special moodlets when grieving, and the ability to raise school grades for another twin. But I'm always open to suggestions - especially for this mod, I really like it <3

shion's relationship with the houjou siblings will always be one of the most fascinating aspects of higurashi to me and it's just so heartbreaking in how tragic it is bc it's shion projecting her own anger and trauma onto their relationship, and she does that bc she sees herself in both of them - satoko, the one who always causes trouble and is treated as a burden for her behavior and is even told she deserves her abuse, and satoshi, the one who's constantly struggling to fix and improve things, even as it's wearing him down.

she also sees her dynamic with mion in them. shion talks at some point about how mion always comes crying to her when something goes wrong in her life (e.g. keiichi hurting her with his insensitivity and not giving her the doll) and she's the only person mion trusts enough to open up to like this, but there's also resentment there, bc when shion needed mion the most, mion wasn't there for her (shion going through torture and having her nails torn off by the sonozakis as punishment with mion just watching (we can see that mion really is powerless in the face of her family but anger and trauma aren't always rational and it's understandable that shion feels abandoned by her sister)).

satoko's dynamic with satoshi is reminiscent of this bc satoshi is always defending satoko from abuse as she hides behind him, so shion basically turns satoshi into everything she feels they can't be, everything she wishes her and mion were, and turns satoko into everything she loathes about herself and mion.

it's such a tragic dynamic bc shion is a victim of abuse who feels trapped in a horrible situation and sees no way out for herself after having had the person she considers a symbol of all of her hopes taken away from her which is why she pushes all the blame for that onto satoko due to the trauma warping her worldview.

shion has been simmering for a long time so when satoshi disappeared, her fragile mental state fell apart completely bc satoshi was the only hope she had left for herself and now she's lost it all. satoshi was living proof that, maybe, she can be okay one day and now that he's gone she has no reason to believe that anymore. it's like being told she can't have anything good for herself, and it's part of the reason she ends up lashing out at mion for taking away the 'mion' name from her. shion has only ever felt like things get stolen from her, which is why she rationalizes the trauma of being separated from her twin sister this way.

it's very complicated bc satoshi is the ideal of the older sibling shion wishes she could be, but he's also the older sibling who's always suffering for the younger one (which is what shion feels she is), and shion hates herself so she doesn't feel justified to act on her resentment unless it's for someone else's sake and satoshi being the ideal he is makes him the perfect object to project those feelings onto.

satoshi is also always putting on a strong front for satoko's sake so his pain goes under the radar, even though he's someone who needs help so badly. this is why shion, who feels as though her own pain isn't recognized by others around her, wants to be the one to see satoshi's pain.

satoshi and shion are both not 'seen', so shion tries to see satoshi with the hope that he'll see her in return.

shion always wanted to be seen, it's why she's so desperate for rena to realize that she's not mion at the end of meakashi and is disappointed when rena doesn't.

shion remembering satoshi's promise in minagoroshi and subsequent fragments isn't her protecting satoko purely for satoshi's sake, it's shion realizing that her and satoko are intertwined in their personal and emotional struggles, as young girls who want to be accepted and loved without the terrible restraints placed upon them by the adults and systems around them that have constantly failed and abused them, so shion takes it upon herself to provide satoko with what she's been robbed off her entire life, with the hope she can protect satoko a little bit from any further hurt and find some healing together.

it's shion breaking the cycle of abuse she perpetuated in meakashi bc she realizes that taking it out on satoko wouldn't solve anything and wouldn't be fair to satoko.

the bond between two girls who have been treated as unwanted and told they shouldn't have been born by the very people who should've protected them from the cruelty of the world is such a special kind of bond.

shion and satoko are so good. meakashi is also so good. look at them please.
