"THE GREATEST STONER/ GARAGE/ PSYCHEDELIC/ PUNK/ METAL BAND EVER. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN HUGE."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on CD package design for the KYUSS/ QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE split release, artwork by the late, great Frank Kozik (1962-2023), issued under the legendary Man's Ruin Records (Man's Ruin MR 063) in 1997.
OVERVIEW: "Emerging wild-eyed and stoned from the desert surrounding Palm Springs, California, in 1992 with their classic second album "Blues for the Red Sun," KYUSS proceeded over the ensuing three years and through two further masterpieces to become the greatest stoner/ garage/ psychedelic/ punk/ metal band ever. They should have been huge.
But saddled with a record company that didn't have the first idea what to do with them, KYUSS only sold records to friends, family and a relatively minuscule band of diehard fans. So they split. Admittedley at a creative high point, but also at a time when they had so much to offer. This much is testified to by the first three tracks on "Queens of the Stone Age." Here are the last songs Kyuss recorded, all first released on a highly-prized 10-inch single and each encapsulating the hypnotic intensity and gargantuan blugeon the band summarily conjured up.
The first track is a frazzled eight-minute deconstruction of BLACK SABBATH's "Into the Void'. KYUSS remain one of the very few bands capable of doing Sabbath's black-hearted doom justice; accomplised in this instance by taking the original tracks prehistoric slurge of a riff and dragging it through a series of skewed rhythmic shifts and a long spaced-out jam.
Like all great bands, KYUSS' sound was utterly distinctive: essentially, Josh Homme's fuzzed-up guitar operating in tandem with Scott Reeder's monstrous bass rumble to create riffs that hit you with the force of a bulldozer to the chest, while singer John Garcia howled away impressively, and intermittently, over the top. All of this is contained in the two-part "Fatso Forgotso" -- a vast 10-minute expanse of soul-drenched, head-spinning rolling thunder.
The album is completed by three tracks from Homme's new band, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE. These too are extraordinary. The music is still dense, trippy and relentlessly heavy, with an even more extreme psychedelic edge. On "If Only Everything" and "Born to Hula." Homme -' who also sings -- appears to be playing a sitar with a road drill, while the whacked-out instumental "Spiders and Vinegaroons" is clearly the work of a man who's imbibed a vast amount of mind-altering substances, and gone mad. We'll not see their like again."
-- "KERRANG!" (review by Paul Rees), published January 10th 1998.

Pretty. Odd. Released Singles
First we have the lead single, Nine in the Afternoon
Tumblr media
Released January 29, 2008 as the Radio Mix
This CD was dropped with the alternate versions to Behind the Sea and Do you Know what I’m Seeing on the B-side.
I was also able to find this single released on a 7” vinyl (45RPM) Photos of this can be seen below
Tumblr media
I also located a version in the UK with the alternate version of Behind the Sea on the B side instead of Do You Know What I’m Seeing (alternate version)
Tumblr media
Next on the list, Mad as Rabbits
Tumblr media
Released March 25, 2008.
I was not able to find a lot of info on this one unfortunately. Which is a shame because this song is one of my personal favorites!
Then we’ve got, That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)
This one is commonly seen with the cover art as pictured below
Tumblr media
But I was able to find another version with a CD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Released May 2, 2008.
This copy being sold with no B Sides with the cover art as pictured above, but wiki suggests that the alternate version to She Had the World is on the B side. Though I couldn’t find evidence of that copy.
Upon further research of this particular single, I found a 7” vinyl (45RPM) with When the Day Met the Night on the B side. Photos of this beauty seen below
Tumblr media
Last but not least is Northern Downpour
Tumblr media
Released November 14, 2008.
I was unable to find photos of the released CD or any concrete evidence that it has a B Side with the alternate version of The Piano Knows Something I Don’t Know, despite finding 2 sources that states that it’s on there.

as much as i am excited for shadow in sonic 3 i still REALLY wish they hadnt jumped straight to sa2 n done sonic adventure instead or Something. obviously i get why they did shadow but i agree i really hope they dont just straight up adapt sa2 because theres so many moving parts. my biggest fear is that theyre gonna introduce characters like rouge and amy who are integral to shadows story (in sa2) at the same time and that its just gonna be a mess
yeah i love rouge and amy but if the next movie has to handle introducing both of them along with shadow then things could get really messy and i highly doubt that all three of them would get the amount of screentime and focus that they deserve. rouge was introduced at the same time as shadow anyway so thats not as much of an issue its mostly amy im worried about. she was already an established character who had been around for a few years when sa2 came out. assuming that the next movie is gonna be an sa2 adaptation and amy is going to be in it how are they going to handle that being her first appearance? and while i dont think i want the movies to be exact copies of the games in terms of story i do find it a tiny bit annoying that they seem to be somewhat going in order in terms of what characters they introduce and what games they adapt but just completely skipped over everything with amy in it and shes still the only main character who hasnt been introduced in the movies yet and they revealed shadow before her. like on one hand yeah shadow is one of the more popular and widely recognized sonic characters so it makes sense to use him and hype him up but also why did you have to do my girl amy like that
