The weirdest part of how Bramblestar is written to me is the fact that a huge part of his character was that he didn't want to be like/compared to his father. And yet the way he's been acting is in line with Tigerstar's beliefs. He's not as extreme as Tiger, of course, but he's still got the xenophobia and the abusive-ness.

And like the idea of him getting corrupted or falling down his father's path unintentionally could be interesting, but that's not what the writers are going for.

Honestly his character has been fumbled so hard. They want him to be a good guy yet write him like a bad guy, seemingly without even realizing it. There's a lot of cool and interesting that could be done with him but he's stuck in this poorly-written limbo. It's kinda sad tbh.

I don't know if the authors think Bramblestar is "done" with his I'm-not-like-my-dad schtick and therefore it's a-okay for them to have him spout this "outsiders inferior" shit but either way they are leaning WAY too hard on Darktail as a solid reasoning for it. Like I get it, the new writers think Darktail is THE evil of evil but every time they bring him up to justify the Clans shitty behavior, it just makes me roll my eyes.

I definitely like Bramblestar as not this overtly evil guy...but sort of a pathetic and super insecure leader who just got where he is based on cats feeling sorry for him (seriously. the role of deputy isn't something that should be given out as a reward). While I am soft for AU's where Bramble is this nice dude who gets to be Squilf and Leafpool's big brother because just because the books want me to forget Firestar was a fatherly figure to him doesn't mean I will damn it-

But I also find rewrites/au's where they lean into it super fascinating. I think @/bonefall's Bramblestar is one of my favorite character he's come up with, love characters who elicit a "what is your fucking problem [affectionate]" reaction in me.
