#Starting to think the wings are to Marx as the crown is to Magolor
desultory-novice · 1 year
Note
hi. uh. i have recently heard that marx, in the original japanese translation, is implied to have just. always had his powers??????????? this is. so so strange to me. bc of. yknow. similarities to Things In RTDLDX. as well as void termina having similar wings ???????? like ????? it makes so much more sense that he wished to rule popstar so nova granted him the powers so he'd have the capabilities to overthrow anybody who stands in his way (except kirby of course) AND NOVA WAS MADE BY THE ANCIENTS !!! SO!! THE SIMILARITIES IN His POWERS MAKE SENSE!!
is this. unfortunately true? :') and.. if so.. where does it say this and how.. and.. why.. ough ough ough ouhg...
(sorry if you're busy, this is just on-par with Magolor's bombshell of "actually im not from halcandra lmfao" and COMPLETELY shattered everything i thought i knew and i dont know how to find anything about this that better explains it!!)
So, I'm probably the biggest "Marx got his powers from Nova" stan in the fandom (?) and I am more than happy to talk about this! (While noting that, even though I believe in it now, and have "evidence" for it, I accept that things change in Kirby. Until it does, ala "I'm not really from Halcandra," I remain staunchly Nova-Wings)
Anyway, since you said the original Japanese, I went ahead and compiled EVERY line of dialogue relating to Marx in Kirby Super Star / Super Star Ultra! All re-translated by yours truly!
Let's see what it says!
--
[Instruction Manual]
"The sun and the moon got in a big fight, and now night and day in Dream Land are all jumbled together. Marx the Magician has told Kirby this can be resolved by linking up the planets in the vicinity of Pop Star and summoning the giant comet. What will Kirby do?"
[Opening Cutscene]
"Hey, hey, hey!" / "You want the sun and moon to make up, right?" /"Then you ought to make a wish on the comet, Nova, located in the furthest reaches of the galaxy!" / "But don't go thinking it'll be as easy as all that!" /"To summon Nova, you need to link up all the nearby planets to gather enough energy!" /"It'll be a long journey, but hey, do your best!" /"After all, everyone's counting on you. Good luck!"
[Cutscene 2]
"READY >" / "I WILL GRANT JUST ONE WISH OF YOURS... >"
"Then... I want Pop Star to be all mine!"
"OK > 3 2 1 GO! >"
"I did it! Just like I hoped!" / "The sun and moon fighting? You going on a journey into space?" / "All of it was my part of my perfect little plan!" / "Anyway, Pop Star's mine now!" / "Now I can play all the tricks I want! Sorry not sorry!" (1) / "Ho ho ho ho ho! O ho ho ho ho ho!"
[Starship - Pause Screen]
"The Starship was created with the power of the stars!! Fly, toward Nova's core. Put a stop to Marx's ambitions (2) then have a good meal and a nice nap."
[Starship - Pause Screen - SDX version]
"The light of the Milky Way (3) has gathered and when it cleared, the Star Ship was there. Destroy Marx's ambitions with this!"
[Marx - Pause Screen - SDX version]
"Marx has revealed his true intentions. In order to protect Pop Star, it's time to Fly! Kirby of the Stars!"
--
I think the issue here is that last part:
"Marx has revealed his true intentions."
Because the bolded text can also interpreted as "true self" and that (plus its usage in other games) has led people to think it is explicitly referring to Marx's exterior. Now, the reason I translated it as "intentions" above is because 正体 can refer to character as well!
Just as an example, when Magolor grabs the Master Crown and reveals his ambitions, you (assuming you were Meta Knight, as he's the only character who would talk like this...) might say to him 「正体を表したな! 」 ("So, you reveal yourself!") even though we know that Magolor's boss form isn't his true form, it's just a transformation.
I'm not here to lecture everyone that this word HAS to specifically be referring to Marx's intentions. The point I want to make is that it is debatable. And it is probably going to remain debatable until Marx makes another appearance and HAL Labs has reason to clarify whether its one way or the other.
(For those who believe Marx's winged form to be his true form, I'd love some theories on why he resembles the Master Crown, Dark Nebula, Void Termina, and other Ancient Artifacts! I really hope we start getting more Marx + Ancients theorizing down the line... Even as a Nova-Wings stan, I'm very interested in this line of thought!)
But, speaking of, I'm such a sap for the Nova-Wings theory I'm going to end this with one more piece of evidence he wasn't born with them...
Tumblr media
When you "defeat" Marx, it is visibly only his wings that go haywire. This is another, not often discussed thing that Marx and Magolor have in common. Sure, the fight with Marx doesn't have the cinematic direction that RtDL does, where you can see when using the Ultra Sword that Kirby is striking at the Master Crown, not Magolor, but take that in mind and go backwards. You can assume it is the same with Marx as it was there, because Marx is not yet physically injured, from what we can see.
Tumblr media
Ignore the quality. You can watch a non-"upscaled" version for yourself on Youtube and see that his wings start flashing red while lightning arcs across them while he has an expression of shock, not hurt, on his face.
Tumblr media
Again, I beg you to remember how the non-cutscene part of the fight ends. Marx stops for just a second mid-air, looking like he's covered in electricity, before his wings cast off stars and start to malfunction, send him rocketing off the screen in the wrong direction. He leaves the surface of the moon (4) while his wings continue to carry him further and further away, out of control until he crashes into Nova.
You, Kirby, didn't technically "defeat" Marx. Like Magolor, who was modeled so closely on him, Marx was yet another victim of an Ancient Artifact going haywire.
And maybe more than we think?!
...But I'll talk about that in another essay I'm working on: "Theme Parks, Mischief, and Corrupted Wishes"
--
(1) Marx says "Please forgive me!" or maybe "Pweeeeaswe forgive me" if we're going by intent. Basically, he says he's sorry, but the tone he takes makes it particularly snide + cutesy.
I chose "tricks" not mischief because Marx is very particularly speaking about teasing pranks and jokes. I feel like mischief could be read to mean more and the fact that Marx has such simple ambitions leads into the topic of my follow-up essay.
(2) I mentioned this in another post, but the text uses さっさとhere which ostensibly means "quickly" but is used to diminish the task in question. Kirby is treating stopping Marx not as a thing that needs to be rushed  because everyone's in great danger but more like because its a nuisance and he needs to get his rest.
(3) They use "Milky Road" in Japanese, which is interesting because the space through Another Dimension is often called "Another Dimension Road." Using Milky Way implies Pop Star is in our universe, but that's what its localized as, so!
(4) Probably it's because of the hearts on his wings, but I've always wondered if Marx's defeat wasn't a subtle reference to Cars' defeat from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. (Is that a MF Jojo's reference?! XD )

Magolor Epilogue where everything’s the same except this happens.
(ID: Kirby series fanart comic of Magolor - in his new gray purgatory garb - stranded in the green-tinted depths of Another Dimension, ranting about his defeat and thinking this is as bad as it gets, only for a familiar-looking star-shaped portal to open behind him and shoot a certain cosmic jester directly at him. Transcript under the cut. END ID.)
Started some time in summer 2023, finished 10/15/23. NOTE: This was originally posted on my deleted account on 10/15/23.
Handy-dandy transcript for ya:
Panel 1
Magolor: *exasperated* Great! Just great! Lost my Crown, lost my powers… How could my life possibly get any worse?!
Panel 2
*a crack forms in space behind Magolor, causing him to turn his head to look* vwp
Panel 3
*portal opens, shooting Marx out as high speeds, directly into Magolor’s back, in a very blurred and amusing smear frame* THUD
Panel 4
*Magolor prone on the ground on his face, Marx sprawled on top of him, both dazed and bruised as stars spin over their heads*
Marx: *disoriented, one eye swollen shut, one filled with a dizzy swirl, gesturing weakly with one wing claw* Hey hey… Did, uh, you lose to Kirby, too? (Ow… my bones…)

may we please get the mirror world headcanons?
heck yes u may
Most of it will be under the cut bc I talk a lot
I like to think the Mirror World is a reflection of the regular world (I call it Prime World for convenience's sake), and by reflection I mean opposite. It's not opposite in a "good v evil" way, just in the sense that a mirror world counterpart is the inverse of their prime world self, for better or for worse. For example, Noddies in Prime World sleep for most of their lives, while Mirror Noddies barely ever sleep and are constantly alert. Instead of a Sleep Ability, they give Panic, aka the Kirby equivalent of slurping down 15 espresso shots in a row. The mirror world counterparts are no better or worse than the prime world, just different!
Headcanons for all the mirror world counterparts of the Star Allies (or at least the ones I've thought abt) are under the cut :3c
Shadow Kirby (Skirby): Where Prime Kirby is reckless, bold, and overconfident, Skirby is reserved, cautious, and kinda pessimistic. They're no weaker or meaner than Prime Kirby, but seem a bit shy and non-confrontational because they always want to scope out the scene before they launch into anything. Some might call it cowardly, but Skirby thinks it's pragmatic. Much like prime Kirby, though, he's the hero of Popstar and is usually the planet's last defense against whatever eldritch horror comes their way. He deserves a break, though, since unlike Prime Kirby he's not surrounded by friends to help him out
Shadow Dedede (SDDD): He started off as a good king, always being diligent, professional, and responsible in contrast to Prime DDD's self-serving, goofy ways. He wanted what was best for the mirror world, but life didn’t make it easy. The mirror dees, rather than the loyal helpers we know from the prime world, were backstabbing jerks who were loyal to no one but themselves. SDDD tried so hard to be a good king, but had no one to help, no one to pull him out of a slump, so he just slipped through the cracks and got worse. Bitterness and anger consumed him until he started looking out for himself and himself only. He became a tyrant, turning into an iron-fisted, merciless ruler whose laws were enforced through violence. DDD got better with the help of his friends, but SDDD got much, MUCH worse as a result of his isolation and loneliness. Also he has a battle axe instead of a hammer bc I think it's cool
Dark Meta Knight (DMK): He's basically the antithesis of a knight: he's willing to work for anyone no matter how rotten they are; he always plans on backstabbing them later, cares about no one but himself, never plays fair, and is a lazy, rude jerk. He likes spicy foods instead of sweets, challenges children to duels WITHOUT offering them a sword first, and is deathly afraid of heights, despite having wings. He was in the process of creating a land-razing tank called the Halberd, but his crew betrayed him and cut up his wings and mask so now he isolates himself out of anger and fear. After being with the Star Allies, he's made some friends and realized the value of teamwork-- also he likes teaching Adeleine swears. With Dark Mind gone and the Mirror World still a bit of a dump, DMK would much rather hang out in the prime world and get on Meta Knight's nerves. He tries his best to protect the two (2) people in the mirror world he does tolerate, though (it's skirby and sddd).
Mirror Bandee: Hates SDDD with a passion. In fact, he's attempted to assassinate the king at least 26 times, but fails both because SDDD is way smarter than him and also Mirror Bandee is a sniveling coward who runs at the first sign of danger. His repeated failures have made him more of a scaredy cat, so no one takes him seriously anymore. He has a knife and ties his bandana around his "mouth" like a scarf, but it doesn't help to make him more intimidating. His repeated attempts to kill the king (and more recently Skirby and DMK, who hang out with SDDD) have become a constant in their lives and weirdly enough they don't mind his company.
Mirror Marx: I always assumed that Prime Marx was a noddy with Mirror instead of sleep. Well Mirror Marx is the opposite-- instead of having Panic like the regular hyperactive Mirror Noddies, he has sleep. He didn't show up for the events of Amazing Mirror bc he was snoozin. Because of this, he never got the Nova's powers, never tricked skirby, and never did anything evil. In fact, unlike Prime Marx, Mirror Marx cares too much about everyone's feelings, is always kind, and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He's the glue holding the mirror world together bc not even the worst of villains want to hurt him. He's just so darn CUTE
Mirror Animal Friends: Imagine the animal friends. Give them angry expressions and sunglasses. Now make them part of a gang. Yeah that's it. The Animals are no friend of skirby's and would sooner maul the poor kid than ever lend him a paw (or flipper or wing). The forest bows to their whims and they rule it like your typical mafia boss. They're jerks.
Mirror Daroach: See these posts.
Dark Taranza: Hoo BOY he's bad. He's real bad. He rules over Mirror Floralia (Sporalia?) which is underground and filled with nasty creepy crawlies. He hates getting his hands dirty and will do anything it takes to get more power and luxury so long as he doesn't have to put himself in danger. He only cares about one thing, and that's himself. What about Queen Sectonia, you ask? She was the original queen of Mirror Floralia, but Dark Taranza mind-controlled her into his puppet to do his bidding. When the people finally snapped and declared war on the tyrannical queen, it was her they shattered, being none the wiser that Dark Taranza was the one pulling the strings. He still has a box of her shards in his castle, just in case he needs a new puppet to play with. He loves jewels and machines, all things inorganic. The imperfections of flowers? Not his style.
Mirror Magolor: Quick tangent here: Mirror Lor Starcutter, rather than being a ship to BRING people to paradise, is a sort of pocket paradise, a little virtual reality magic... thing. It can also be easily modified to only open from the outside. That's important for later. Anyway, Mirror Magolor is brutally honest, but also rude, unfriendly, impulsive, and incredibly violent. He hates machines and will start punching a lamppost if he accidentally walks into it. Scrappy little dude. He would actually rather claw his ears off than be friends with another living being. He just likes brawling and destroying ancient artifacts and that's it. Well one day he tells the mirror crew he wants to go get this thing called the Master Crown so he can destroy it. SDDD, Skirby, Mirror Bandee and DMK realize hey, that'd be nice for us to have, let's join him and then betray him at the last minute. As soon as they get there, though, the crown ends up choosing Mirror Mags as a host before anyone can do anything. Oops! The others manage to shatter him... but then the crown pulls his shards back together and attacks them again. Realizing he's both totally lost it and also immortal, the others lock Mirror Mags inside the Lor as the crown erodes the last of his humanity. Consumed by blind rage and the crown's power, Mirror Magolor just lashes out at anything that moves, biting and clawing at whatever he can reach like a feral cat. There's like a 80% chance he has rabies.
Sorry to Susie, Gooey, Adeleine, and all the non-Star Allies crew, I haven't thought abt them yet

I’ve lost to temptation so here it is
My interpretation of magolor lets fucking go
So first section: How this bitch works
So Magolor is from Halcandria, a planet who’s core is essentially magic. There’s so much magic on this single planet that it leaked into the life and even some objects that could contain it. Magolor is no exception. Magic energy is essentially stored in a second heart (tho it’s more of a container than a heart), and runs through the body very similar to blood. It’s created and flows through his body, and allows for things like his eye glow, floating, and obviously powers. When he’s asleep, it regenerates. If there’s already enough magic energy while he’s asleep, it disposes of the old magic mostly by floating in sleep or by more severe means like insomnia aka magical overdose (which I’ve gone over before).
Next, is the glowing eyes!! Why he have that, I’ll tell ya. It makes it easier to detect other halcandrians as well as make it easier to detect light such as fire. Which is very useful when you need to look through ashy clouds and make sure a giant rock isn’t about to slam into you from above. It’s also a way to show the health of a halcandrian. Though the eyes glow yellow, they have a brown color very similar to their fur. If they’re sick or very unhealthy, they lose their glow and it slowly reverts to the brown color.
As a side effect of the master crown though, Magolor’s magic energy got boosted by the crown so he didn’t just die instantly by overwhelming power. It sounds like a good thing on paper, having so much energy to the point where he can fight non stop without getting tired magically, but magic overdose due to him not being able to deplete enough of it fast enough is a bitch. He gets sick a lot easier, bad insomnia, as well as occasionally using magic without realizing. So this clears out how he works and shit!! Now onto...
Before RTDL
So before RTDL Magolor had little social skills or experience with interacting with other people that wasnt lying to them to get them to do stuff. It was just how Halcandria worked. People kept to themselves and if you needed help you’d have to twist the truth in order to convince them. Relationships of any kind are very rare in Halcandria as well.
So when he met Marx, it was weird. He originally planned to let him stay until he got better and told him about why he was found in a Nova’s wreckage, so he could hopefully get Marx to lead him to something else he could use to defeat Landia. It didn’t go as planned. Marx was an unpredictable dude who immeadiatly fell for Magolor (but mags didn’t notice cause he’s never experienced someone else crushing or a crush) and due to that Marx spent a lot of time with Magolor during recovery and grew on him. He also ended up showing Magolor what friendship was, and honestly: magolor liked it. He liked having someone around. It was a nice change, and it was nice to have someone around to help (and rarely give him affection). So, Magolor wanted Marx to rule the universe with him once he killed Landia. He didn’t want Marx to leave. Though things started going downhill when an accident happened one time while exploring and Magolor was distracted, leaving to Marx having to use Nova’s power to make sure Magolor was safe.
And Magolor was fascinated, and god he was excited. He pried Marx for questions about his wings, constantly stared at them when they were out, and started talking about if he and Marx used their combined powers they could finally kill Landia and get what they want. But Marx didn’t want to. His want for power by then left, and he knew the consequences. He was happy just hanging out with Mags, and didn’t want to risk his life fighting a dragon with a crown of infinite power. But Magolor, despite liking the change of company, was used to being a loner and believed he could do it again since he’s halcandrian. He said Marx could leave if he didn’t want to, and that was when Marx started to see just how desperate Magolor was for the Master Crown. It was all too similar to his own desperation with Nova, and all words were useless and failed to change Magolor’s mind. So Marx left, and Magolor continued. He felt a little bad (and lonely) but pushed it down and decided no turning back and opted to modifying the Starcutter more like a weapon and attacking Landia that way, but failing.
Though he had a backup plan, thanks to Marx. Which brings me to..
The Betrayal
So this is RTDL time, before the betrayal. His back up plan was going to the pink hero Marx ranted about and using them to get the crown. After all, if they could defeat someone with the gift of Nova’s power, they could defeat a wyvern with a crown. They landed, and Magolor met everyone, but he couldn’t stop thinking about a certain someone. Chilly, who volunteered to stay with him while the others collected the spheres and parts (tho it was because he was suspicious). Mags didn’t know this, and assumed he was being nice. So the second person who (he thought) was being friendly with him enough to stay with him, and fill that hole Marx accdientally left by leaving him. He couldn’t not get attatched. He became REALLY REALLY clingy, and did as much as he could to keep himself focused as well as make sure they were friends. It backfired, making Chilly agitated most of the time, but it also semi worked later on. Most of his time between the betrayal and his crash landing was spent monitoring everyone’s progress, and trying to get Chilly to like him so he could do what he had to do during the betrayal.
Now during the betrayal! The closer he got to achieving the crown again, the more desperate and ooc he got. By the time he was at Halcandria, there’d be no way to talk him out of it, since he was THIS close. But there was still one thing wrong that he assumed the crown would fix: he couldn’t go back to being alone. He assumed he would adjust, since that’s how it’s been for his whole life. But now, that he’s actually had two people really close to him (and one leave) that showed him affection and didn’t only use him like in Halcandria, he didn’t want to go back to being alone. He couldn’t. But he came too far to turn back, and continued anyway (not like he ever changed his mind, but he did have moments of doubt). He told Chilly to stay in the Starcutter, wanting to keep him safe, which obviously didn’t go well for him when Chilly responded with freezing the ship from the inside to stop Magolor from using it in its attacks.
And of course, when Magolor sees this, he has a moment of “oh shit I can’t let him do this. I can’t lose someone else.” And tries to convince Chilly to join him. He talks about the two of them ruling and even giving Chilly Popstar to rule. He means it. He wants someone with him, somebody that he genuinely loves and treats him like a friend. He assumed that if he didn’t force Chilly into working with him like Marx, he would join in the end. And like any person with common sense, Chilly denies, loyal to Kirby and Popstar. THIS was the moment Magolor became truly desperate, he tries to convince Chilly to join him but he can barely get any words other than “but you were only friend” out while crying (in the middle of battle lol). Kirby and everyone take this chance to attack, while Magolor is just kind of broken. He fucked up again.
And he’ll be alone.
He has one thing left now, and that’s the power to rule the universe.
And he’s desperate to have this one thing go right for him, and he uses the remaining power of the Master Crown... which brings me to the next topic!
The Master Crown
Full section for the master crown let’s go. It gets its dark power from a leader/creator of dark matter (think 0), and is sentient. It only knows to shroud the world in darkness, and will do whatever it takes to get it. It’s powers are held at bay by Landia, who is Halcandria’s guardian and can resist its powers due to being a magic guardian. Magolor however, isn’t a magic guardian, and can’t resist. To him, it’s a shiny piece of jewelry that’ll make him strong so things can finally go his way.
The way it works is by drawing people in, like a venus fly trap. It just amplify people’s interest in it, as well as bring out the more negative traits about them that makes them easier to control. The most common traits is desperation, impulsiveness, frustration, and determination. And once the crown is on their head, it locks on and is irremovable and works like a parasite, basically completely erasing whoever put it on and molding them to the perfect puppet. Magolor essentially just sped up the process completely by using the last of its power in a desperate attempt to get what he wanted.
After the Betrayal
Magolor, after the betrayal, is left just floating around Another Dimension. He’s exhausted, in a lot of pain, and completely magically drained. He couldn’t even float if he tried, and that uses the bare minimum of magic. He’s stuck here for a long time, and at first, he’s extremely frustrated and upset. He spends a lot of time replaying the events in his head (not magolor soul, he has no memories of that aside from snippets that come into his dreams that are partially due to the master crown’s lasting effect) and just getting more and more angry at everything. He was so close to having control over EVERYTHING, and he lost it over himself the second he used the rest of the power. He was infuriated that he manged to let that stupid puffball beat him, along with their friends.
He cries, screams, shouts, but it doesn’t matter. Rage can only last so long, and it’s not much before he’s just exhausted and tired. He’s given up on escaping, knowing he can’t. He cant form a dimensional portal strong enough to pull him out of a dimension. He only has the skill to use it for teleportation. After a few days, he’s accepted what happened, that this is his fate. He hates being alone, floating in space with no silly jester to crack a joke or scratch his head, and no snowman who’s bell jingled with an adorable tune whenever he laughed and even gave him hugs. He ends up getting habits of scratching his head (despite the pain because of master crown injuries) and hugging himself as a way to fill that hole the two left when leaving. He misses them, and starts to regret going after the crown in the first place. He comes up with scenarios in his head to pass the time as he basically waits for himself to rot. He imagines apologizing and having his friends back. He imagines Marx somehow finding him similar to how Magolor found him. He imagines not being alone, and being happy. Not plagued by agonizing exhaustion and self fury. He even comes to miss Kirby and their friend one he actually realizes the kindness they showed him, since he was too focused before to realize.
He spends a few days in the hell dimension before he finds something. He ends up finding an energy sphere that floats past that was lost during the battle. He grabs and clings to it, now having only one thing from before. It doesn’t make the loneliness any better, but it does make things a little less bareable. But of course, energy spheres are a sphere doomer’s favorite snack, and it doesn’t take long before one comes along really wanting it.
Magolor at first, pushes it away desperate to keep this one thing he had before, and the sphere doomer keeps coming back desperately wanting its food. Eventually, Magolor and the sphere doomer form a slight bond since this was when Magolor started slowly regaining magic again and tries attacking it with his revolution orbs, but it’s just a treat for the sphere doomer. The sphere doomer keeps coming back for more treats and another attempt at a snack, and Magolor feels a little less lonely. Over time, he actually gains enough of its trust to pet it and even talks to it. He names her Lor II.
Lor II is the reason he gets out of Another Dimension and back to Halcandria, via opening a rift. Lor II basically gives Magolor a second chance to make things right, and he immeadiatly takes it. Of course, he has to steal the Starcutter to do it, but he makes his way to Popstar to apologize, because he REALLY regrets his major fuck up and at the very least, he can make things better (and maybe get a chance at being less lonely).
So that’s all I got lmao hope you enjoyed

I see people posting about Catolor and I got inspired to write this down. This is mostly for me to look at when I wanna write this first interaction between Mags and my oc Mavi later, but I also thought sharing with people might be fun? IDK, is cringe culture dead yet? Am I gonna get booed off stage? Anyway there’s a read more so you can skip if you want lmao
So, my version of sirens are all afraid of cats. Why? I think it's funny. But Mavi is especially scared of them though. Like, she's afraid of three things: fire, cages, and cats.
Kirby doesn't know this. He thinks Magolor looks more like an egg anyway, so it wouldn't come up even if he did.
Kirby also doesn't really have a filter when talking on the phone, he just hits start and doesn't stop because he's worried about awkward silences. He's better about it in person since he can see if the other person is okay with the quiet, but he still rambles sometimes.
So he ends up blabbing about the whole Master Crown incident and how Magolor built them an amusement park to apologize.
Mavi's like, "haha, yeah, I know all about that, my whole friend group is made of ex-villains" and is totally cool with it.
Even so Kirby apologizes to Magolor, cuz he feels bad about telling someone else about it without permission.
At first Mags is kinda angry with the little puff, since that's not exactly the first impression he wants people to have of him. It only lasts for a week though, mainly because Mavi drops by Dreamland for a visit a bit before Star Allies, and Kirby brings her to the Lor to introduce her to Mags officially to show she's alright with him.
Marx is also there, just chillin out while Magolor is tinkering with something. They aren't quite dating at this point but they're still extremely close, and it's obvious to literally everyone else that they like each other. They're both oblivious idiots though.
Mavi sees Mags and freezes. Her wings pop out and she flies straight out of the Lor and into a tree. Her feathers are puffed out and everything.
She's just screaming about Mags being a cat. Magolor is yelling that he's Halcandran and not a cat. Kirby's trying and failing to calm her down. Marx is losing his shit in the background and absolutely recording it.
Mavi only calms down when Magolor goes back inside. She's hella embarrassed and she apologizes to him. She’s on edge the whole time but it turns out all right, they even hang out afterwards.
Magolor is honestly just glad she's cool with him being friends with Kirby, since she's basically his big sister. It's good teasing material for later anyway.
After that, they're pretty alright friends! She still gets spooked every now and then by some of his cat quirks when they're together in person, but they talk a lot in the Dreamland groupchat and ask each other questions about each other's cultures and stuff.

I'm exteremely bored.. so imma just answer for a few characters.
Zero Two
First impression: Oooo winged Zero with a cool soundtrack!
Impression now: Baby.. precious baby that needs to be protected at all costs
Favorite moment: When the tiny cute face rolls back to reveal eye
Idea for a story: I really want to expand my headcanons in regards to his creation and the relationship he has with Miracle
Unpopular opinion: Are there unpopular opinions? Or is a synthetic god being baby an unpopular opinion?
Favorite relationship: Lor and Two! I really like thinking about these two gijinka's together. Mine more familial mine and my friend's maybe romantic? More like friends tbh
Favorite headcanon: Two was created by the ancients using leftover scavenged Zero matter. To get it to expand they literally just threw junk into it and let it do it's thing
Miracle
First impression: AAAAAAAAA
Impression now: AAAAAAAAA I love them
Favorite moment: I really like how smooth the transition is for their different abilites!
Idea for a story: The same as Two tbh. Maybe explaining why they're so disconnected with their emotions
Unpopular opinion: Idk many headcanons from other folks soo idk what would be an unpopular opinion
Favorite relationship: They have less of a familial relationship with more like a mentor-student relationship with Two. That can change in the future though
Favorite headcanon: Miracle was made far before Two and was created using Zero's scavenged matter and weaker matters the ancients could find. So in the end Miracle has vitiligo that they hide mostly under their robes and layers.
Magolor
First impression: He's a cat and a egg! Egg cat!
Impression now: he's a redeemable-backstabbing-almost friend-egg cat
Favorite moment: I really like Magolor's scenes in general but I did like the part when Magolor floats down, clapping slowly as he says "You truly have earned your reputation as a hero, Kirby".
Idea for a story: I really want to get into what Magolor did between Milky Way Wishes and when Return to Dreamland starts
Unpopular opinion: Magolor isn't evil.
Favorite relationship: Marx and Magolor! They're in a healthy romantic relationship
Favorite headcanon: I mentioned it in some tags before, but the crown made Magolor's emotions heighten and took him over. All he wanted to do was teach Kirby a lesson, since his best friend and only family was presumibly dead
Lor Starcutter
First impression: boat...
Impression now: Strong, kind boat mom!
Favorite moment: Lor is a boat... so she doesn't do much by herself in the games. :/ I do like that she can be summoned though!
Idea for a story: I want to write about Lor's creation and reason she exisits in the first place
Unpopular opinion: uhm????
Favorite relationship: Lor and Two!
Favorite headcanon: Lor was created as a war ship to take over the surrounding planets, to create a paradise for the Halcandrans!
Nova
First impression: I was just enamoured by her
Impression now: I still am just like.. wow
Favorite moment: Just the entire scene we see of her talking to Marx and Kirby. It's just so cool seeing the huge size difference and her powers and hhhhh
Idea for a story: Like Lor, I want to write why she was created and her affiliation with the ancients
Unpopular opinion: is there one on her???
Favorite relationship: Nova and Zero, but more like a mutal respect kind of deal. Lor and Nova as friends in the past
Favorite headcanon: Why/how Nova got the scar over her eye
Galatica Knight
First impression: Tbh I was kind on indifferent. Jsut another boss, ya know?
Impression now: How have I been such a fool??
Favorite moment: I like when he drops down before the fight starts.
Idea for a story: I have ideas for why he and the other knights were made and their purpose
Unpopular opinion: idk many opinions on him
Favorite relationship: Tbh I think Magolor and Gala is really cute.
Favorite headcanon: I can't share that yet!

Ever since finding out a Kirby cafe song compared him to a king(the king and witch’s rendezvous) I’ve been analyzing differences between magolors first phase(where he’s more restrained and elegant) vs his second phase(where he’s more desperate and doing more physical attacks) since he juggles in his second phase I think he goes from a “regal king” to a “desperate jester” ok this was mostly me liking magolors juggling attack he’s so cool I wish they added it in another game
I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS!
Like, first off, I love self-made king Magolor so much. I love the ambition in him, and how it plays into his design, HIS MUSIC and just...!
But yes! He's all blues and golds (!!) to start, but then he adds this really strong, really deep red into his outfit after the transformation? This is half-remembered info from old books about medieval history when I used to be really into it, but colors like red and purple were often associated with royalty just because the expenses involved/the challenge of dyeing it. (And he even has a teensy bit of purple in his regular outfit!)
Also, the shape of his hood changes slightly! As tiny Magolor, it is literally a hood, but when he shifts into his 1st phase, it becomes more like a hat/cap, and the gear motif now circles around his head... JUST LIKE A CROWN. (Or coronet/circlet.) So he's doubly crowned. Him doing that to his hood (a personal crown, as opposed to a stolen crown) really gives you the feeling he's trying to transform himself and his image entirely.
...And then everything changes for his second form. Something I was planning on bringing up in my upcoming music post was how much I love the irony of the opening notes of "CROWNED." Like, I'm not great at describing music much more coherently than “I LIKE it!”, but the way the song starts out...it has this feel of an imperial procession/reveal, almost? Like you’ve got trumpets playing and the curtain pulls back and Behold! Here's your king!! Only...
...He's a MONSTER.
Or in this case, a clown.
A sad clown. A twisted marionette. A parody of a jester.
And...okay, I hope you know that by bringing this question up to me in specific, I was going to involve Marx in this discussion somehow, right? XD But I've been doing some thinking about elements of Marx in Magolor's second form.
Magolor’s more rounded now, instead of egg-shaped. The Crown gives him these ethereal, non-standard wings too.
The golden arms of the crown could be a call back to Marx's most unusual arms. And the horns, too. They look like a lot like a jester hat. (Actually, he looks like the character NiGHTS, who is also based around jester imagery.)
...The rest of the Marx imagery goes into HC territory so I’ll cut it here.
While everything Magolor does in his 1st form feels very purposeful (the intricate hand movements) he acts more slow and confused in his 2nd form.
I end up defaulting to Magolor Soul a lot when talking about Magolor, so I want to take a moment here to look at the differences between Magolor Phase 2 and Magolor Soul.
There’s the zombified look of his Soul body, the crown’s constricting tendrils turning into thorns (that’s another Marx parallel, btw, as Marx uses roses) and the color of the gem, but one of the more subtle changes, yet one of the most telling, is that his magic sigil differs between the two forms. Soul has a unique magic sigil, polygonal and static (indicating Magolor’s kinda...GONE) but Phase 2 still uses Magolor's personal magic sigil!
You get the feeling that maybe...Magolor may still be in partial control during Phase 2...? That while Soul is absolutely the Master Crown taking him over from the inside out, Phase 2 was more like...a baleful polymorph?
I think back to that blink he gives in particular. When he opens his eyes right as the form shift happens? It's definitely haunting in Soul form, but in Phase 2, it really does feel like for a second, Magolor may be thinking:
"Oh, phew! The fight's not over! Man, I was sure worried when the Crown started to get all explodey and...Uh...Hello...? What's going on? Why do I look like this? What the...? Uh... What's going on with me...?"
Like, he is likely still being controlled to some degree, but I feel he has a bit more of his consciousness involved in the process in Phase 2? Ever so slightly more comical (comedy-horror) even... only it’s at Magolor’s EXPENSE.
(...Whereas I tend to imagine Magolor’s thoughts in soul form boil down to incoherent and wordless screaming, crying, and pleading for help/mercy/or someone to end it all. Err....A-ahem! I-I said nothing...)
So yes, Magolor is kind of turned into a “fool” which makes the juggling really TWISTED when you think that he may be trying to do anything else with his hands (say, kill Kirby and co.) and the Crown is like "Wheeeee! Fun with host body!"
Alternatively, since Magolor never had any friends (not confirmed but one of those generally accepted HC things) the Crown is either playing WITH HIM like a toy or "using" him to play with Kirby and the others. (The “playing with him” thing could work well with “the Crown possesses part of/a Void’s consciousness” theory, since Void also has these “playful” attacks.)
The Soul fight is horrifying for lots of reasons (rotting/hurt imagery, the dying scream, etc) but Phase 2 may be horrifying in a completely different way. Magolor is being MOCKED by the Master Crown. Literally made a fool of.
And since he's still implied to have some consciousness there, you can bet that the self-conscience Magolor probably is feeling like a “desperate” jester!
Which is probably why he doesn't reuse the juggling attack later on! The twin Ultra Swords? Very cool. Everyone can respect that.
That time the Master Crown made him embarrass himself by juggling in front of Kirby and crew when he just wanted to be king of several dimensions...?
...No. We don't talk about the juggling...
---
BTW, I still don't know anything about music, but I ran across this song by chance and my brain said "...potential Magolor song...?" so I’m sharing it with everyone. (There’s self-made kings, mountains, doubtful survival, and eyes involved! That's at least some Magolor imagery!)
