#Strange Animal

Ever heard of the five-toed worm lizard (Bipes biporus)? This burrowing critter isn’t a snake: It’s a member of a group called amphisbaenians, which include mostly legless reptiles. Growing about 8.3 in (21.1 cm) long, this species is an ectotherm, which means its body temperature depends on its immediate environment. Using its tiny clawed digits to dig underground, it tends to hang out closer to the surface during the early hours of the day, then burrows deeper below the Earth as the Sun peaks. It can be found in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula.

"Ontario Place Poster Re-Draw"

I was commissioned by a FB friend to digitally (re-)paint a Gowan poster from the 80s. (Tacked that below) this was so interesting to work on! With only having a screenshot from a DVD to work with, I think I did pretty well. 🖌🖼🎨

Also made a "poster version" with a border, logo, and lettering - just for the heck of it. (2nd pic)

Chipped away in SketchBook Pro over the last 3 months.

the weird thing about chickie is unless he's on his chair that makes him evil, his preferred way to play is to just. observe the toy you're shaking. and then if you put it near him he pretends it's chasing him. almost every time

The greatest injustice ever faced is that I almost certainly started the still thriving "clown husbandry" tag on here, but any discussion about it (from a know your meme page to a youtube video with 500k views) says it's a joke of "unknown origin" or credited to this post, likely bouncing off of mine (which was actively circulating at the time with like 30k notes):

This is a tragedy for many reasons, most of all because it wasn't just an offhand joke but actually a direct response to some of the funniest online hate I ever got:

They're erasing the truest history of tumblr: its desperate need to seethe and argue over every obvious joke with more than 10 notes.

"The Strange Animal in [Digital] Pencil"

What started as a quick doodle before bed became a lighting study, then a full-blown digital graphite piece.

I did not realize how *hard* it was to try and draw Gowan's shirt graphic details by hand, so I had help with one of the lightning element brushes I have in my arsenal. (If that's cheating, I guess I'm guilty)

The original Dimo Safari shot is normally seen in the centre of Gowan's Strange Animal album's gatefold cover - BUT the one I referenced from was actually ripped from a magazine(I put it in the comments)

Done in about 2 hours on my laptop in SketchBook.

Have any of you ever heard of the hummingbird moths we get in Britain?

So, I thought I saw a hummingbird last year. It was much bigger than a bug could be, I thought, and it hovered around flowers and looked like it had feathers.

I got pretty close but it was never still enough to see clearly. Then, when I told my parents they said "oh! it was probably a moth!" and I was baffled for a long time. Like, how could a moth look like and act so much like a hummingbird?

Until I googled "hummingbirds in the UK" and this fucker comes up:

Everyone, meet the hummingbird hawk-moth; one of the weirdest and coolest cases of convergent evolution on this planet.

This is the kinda thing I'd see in fiction and go "oooh cool, bug hummingbird! Wish we had those on earth!" But we do. We really do have them on earth!! Isn't that nuts?!?!?
