Digimon Tamers - Volume 2
It turns out this series is super out of print and rare. My library only has the first 2 volumes, so I'll be reading the rest after this one online (if you want to buy it it's like $80-$100 per volume!) It's a little bit of a relief honestly, because the volume that I got from the library is pretty crusty and battered. I think I saw some dried shredded cheese on some of the pages 🤢 Really shows who the audience is.
Ch. 8
This manhua has really bad continuity and no sense of space. Characters will just pop out of nowhere. Culumon is the worst offender, but in this chapter there were a bunch of dramatic scenes between Rika and Renamon and then it just randomly turned out that Takato and Jian were watching the whole time but not saying anything? Riiiight.
I was really confused at the end and thought that Yamaki was saying he created a digimon but it was actually a really clumsy flashback to the original digimon programmers. Confusing panels...
Ch 9
Wow, the Devas arc already, it obviously felt like it took a lot longer to get here in the anime. I wonder if they'll do all the Devas or condense them/do some off screen?
At least one thing that's nice about this manga is that I can take in the Devas designs without them jumping around too much.
Ch. 10
Some of these jokes are flying over my head. Takato tries to name his group of friends "team rock" and he mentions "a skinny guy on TV who talks about the power of positive thinking." I wish they would cut out the unfunny, outdated material and just tell the damn story >:/
Worst boys Hirokazu and Kenta show up to reestablish themselves as part of the party...yaaay
Didn't realize that MegaloGrowmon was called WarGrowlmon in the dub. I guess it is kind of nice to keep the naming conventions more consistent. "Megalo" is sort of a weird prefix (megalomania?)
Ch. 11
I'm still obsessed with Jian's computer that can read trading cards as if they were CD-ROMs. I wish that technology existed!
Two perfect evolutions in one chapter? Pretty rushed but okay...they still looked cool. (Taomon and Rapidmon). I think the Wonderswan card game rot my brain a little cuz when I saw Rapidmon I was thinking about all the option cards I could use with him.
Ch. 12
Other than my fave Antylamon, I think Indramon is the most memorable of all the devas. His design is really unique, he's massive, and he kicks the shit outta Impmon. I like his emo hair too lol
When they realize that Hirokazu's homemade blue card works I'm surprised they didn't move onto a counterfeit card making scheme after that. I just it only works if it was made with pure intentions or something.
Ch. 13
Why is Juri's dub name "Jeri" when "Julie" was right there?
Damn, they really killed any suspense with Makuramon's intro there. In the anime he's presented as a kid at first but here they showed him as a kid but then slapped the name tag "Makuramon" right next to him...
They skipped a bunch because Juri just magically knows that Guilmon exists. They showed Hirokazu and Kenta meeting him, but not her. Oh well, I guess.
Ch. 14
Calling Juri, Hirokazu and Kenta "groupies" is pretty funny, not gonna lie. So accurate.
I like that they're clearly ID-ing each deva as its corresponding zodiac animal. I think there was a little bit of that in the anime, but not as spelled out as it is here. Usually I don't like to be spoon fed, but there's something satisfying about them saying "that's the boar, that's the monkey, etc."

as saddened as i am about lost outpost/polaris not returning(especially outpost), im like 99% sure the reason is because both stages would be really difficult/awkward to have king salmonids in without actually changing the layouts.
polaris is mostly narrow walkways and has an insanely small high tide, not to mention super vertical. its hard to imagine megalodontia being able to spawn....anywhere? without it looking super weird. horrorboros would be fine, and coho would also probably be ok, but still a bit too big for high tide.
outpost, of course, has the big box. that box would block off the entire basket area to p much every king except megalo, and i dont think coho would fit through those tiny openings, they were only a bit taller than a steelhead from what i remember. otherwise outpost had a way better chance, but that box kills it, sadly.
we couldve still gotten both, or at least outpost, but the devs made it obvious that these maps are directly ported from 2 with no change, so i think its clear that if they cant make the new stuff work, they arent gonna bother trying to change things to make it work. hopefully we get outpost and polaris in splatoon 4, whenever that comes out

Anime of the Day: My Spring Watch Anime List
Tumblr media
The spring anime cycle runs from April to June. Now that June is over I felt like publishing my new anime watch list for spring. Now I do watch older anime alongside watching new anime, and I don’t keep super good records of that. My “All the Anime I’ve Ever Watched” list is jumbled up bad and while I should take better care of it I won’t. By leaving it a shuffled mess it gives me a more mixed list of anime to write about. Nonetheless, the list:
Boku no Hero Academia 5th Season
Tokyo Revengers
Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen
To Your Eternity
Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou.
So I'm a Spider, So What?
Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-

Hori-san to Miyamura-kun
Super Cub
Shakunetsu Kabaddi
Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun OVA

With COVID-19 vaccines becoming widely available suggests that the pandemic’s end is on the horizon, it is looking like a return to normalcy won’t be coming anytime soon for those hoping to attend an in-person convention or event. These past few weeks, Anime Expo, San Diego Comic-Con, and A-Kon has announced that they will be canceling this year’s festivities, joining the likes of Anime Boston as among the major anime conventions that will be sidelined or held virtually again this year.
TMS Entertainment released a second trailer and key visual for Megalo Box 2: Nomad this past Monday. The new season is scheduled to premiere on Japanese television on April 4, 2021. North America-wise, Funimation has announced that they will be simulcasting the new season on their FunimationNow streaming service.

Aniplex has announced that the highly anticipated film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train will be making its theatrical debut in the United States and Canada, both subbed and dubbed, on April 23, 2021. Tickets will be available for preorder on Funimation’s website beginning April 9. For those who might not be able to go to the theaters, Funimation and Aniplex will be releasing the film on digital platforms beginning on June 22.
A new key visual was released for Lupin the Third, revealing that a new TV production commemorating its 50th anniversary will be revealed on March 25 at Anime Japan 2021 and TMS Expo. The image featuring Lupin near Big Ben suggests that this new project will take place in the UK. No word yet on whether this will be Part 6 or a TV special.

Anime of the Decade 2018
Oh boy, we’re getting close to current day. So much anime, where to start? How about the beginning of the year? Lets get started!
Winter:
Darling in the FranXX - Oh man, what a way for Trigger to drop the ball. For what was set up to be such an interesting show with a cool premise and a variety of characters, they just had to go and pull a typical Trigger ending with SPACE! There’s a lot to like about this show and it gave us an iconic best girl in Zero Two, but the ending is just so lackluster and disappointing that it really casts a sad pall over the whole show.
Tumblr media
Skilled Teaser Takagi-san - I have never seen such a heartwarming, wholesome, calm, low-stakes, enjoyable show like this ever. It’s a just budding romance between a couple middle school kids where all the flirting is cloaked behind Takagi-san’s teasing and Nishikata’s naïveté . Truly a show worth watching.
Tumblr media
Yuru Camp - Speaking of chill shows, this was definitely the laid-back (pun intended) show of the season. This is a very nice slice of life show about a bunch of cute girls camping in the winter. Lots of yuri undertones and a fun cast make this a really fun show to watch. Also season 2 in 2020!
Tumblr media
After the Rain - A romance show that’s all about to very different and lost people who come together and find romance, but not in each other. They use their connection to find what love means to them, and it’s a fully underrated and sweet show. The art style is really nice and unique and the sound design is A+.
Tumblr media
A Place Further Than the Universe - And here we have my AOTS and a very strong contender for AOTY. The story plot is really just a group of girls go to Antarctica, but like in almost all things: it’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And that goes doubly so for this show where it’s fully character driven, and the four main girls are all different enough and unique in their own ways that there’s a lot comedy and growth and maturity. So fucking good.
Tumblr media
Ms. Koizumi-san Loves Ramen Noodles - I’m including this for 2 reasons. Number 1, like always, cute anime girls. And Number 2, you get a fairly decent education in styles of ramen. If you like ramen and anime girls, watch this show. I learned there are so many types of ramen in different regions and really just whatever the chefs want to create to make something unique.
Tumblr media
Spring:
Last Period - This is an action/magic/fantasy show that’s not really any of that. It is, but it’s really more of a full on comedy parody of gatcha-games and the related tropes. It’s a really fun comedy with excellent ED and OP songs.
Tumblr media
Megalo Box - Hot damn, how do we in the year 2018 get a show that’s straight out of the 80′s and still look and sound like the best of the year? Absolutely unique and excellent in all regards. It’s my AOTS for sure.
Tumblr media
Comic Girls - This is a show all about finding confidence in what you want to do. Lot of cute girls, fun comedic situations, and just a nice feel-good show.
Tumblr media
Golden Kamuy - Ever been vaguely interested in Japanese history? No not samurais and stuff, but like late 19th and early 20th century Japanese history and some of the indigenous peoples who kinda got pushed out. It’s a story about war, the Ainu people, and a legitimate Gold Rush! Fantastic show that got a second season and I’m holding out hope for a third.
Tumblr media
Hinamatsuri - Definitely the comedy of the season for me, though in the end it almost ended up more heartwarming and adorable than full on comedy.
Tumblr media
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online - Ever wanted to explore the ideas and games of SAO without the main characters holding the story back? This is the show for you. It’s a legitimately good SAO show without any of the drawbacks and baggage the main story carries with it.
Tumblr media
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku - One of the most relate-able and honest adult romance stories I’ve even seen. This isn’t some shitty high school rom-com that spends the whole 12 episodes building up to a confession that may or may not turn into anything. This takes care of all that in the first 2 episodes and then spends the rest of its time exploring the ins and outs of an actual relationship. All while both work together and have their own otaku hobbies.
Tumblr media
Summer:
Attack on Titan S3 - The political navigating begins! This aired in 2 parts with a couple seasons between them so I guess it’s technically 2 seasons though not. And part 2 is rightly hailed as the best of AOT so far, but this part 1 has one of the best action scenes I’ve ever witnessed. The Levi chase scene is so fucking good.
Tumblr media
Overlord S3 - There is a whole lot of interesting story that happens in this season and a lot of good, but it almost all gets brought down by some absolutely terrible CGI in the last couple episodes.
Tumblr media
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord - That a stupidly trashy show. I fucking love it.
Tumblr media
Grand Blue - Grand Blue is a diving show! That is like 90% college shenanigains and drinking. It’s also quite funny and has some fantastic faces.
Tumblr media
Asobi Asobase - I’m a big fan of comedies, and somehow this one seems to top everything I’ve seen. The scenarios, the voice acting, the art, the timing, the OP and ED... literally everything about this show is cranked to 11 in order to provide the best comedy experience around. AOTS.
Tumblr media
Fall:
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime - This is a super fun isekai show that is done well. No there’s not an overpowered, black-haired, generic MC; in fact the MC isn’t even human, he’s a slime! Who just so happens to befriend an elder dragon and use the unique slime characteristics to kinda become stupidly overpowered. He just wants to chill and have some fun and ends up building a nation of monster-kin while he’s at it. Lots of comedy, lots of fun, enough well-animated action to keep you entertained, and a lot of heart for this little slime and his family that he builds.
Tumblr media
Sword Art Online: Alicization - More SAO! This is supposed to actually be good though... and I have to agree!
Tumblr media
Goblin Slayer - Goblins are a menace, but they’re not flashy so most of the adventurers just ignore them. However the titular Goblin Slayer knows better, when they gather en masse they are a force to be reckoned with and can even wipe out whole cities not to mention any little villages along the way. He will not stand for that and has specialized in goblin hunting. Are there goblins to kill? He’ll do it. Souka.
Tumblr media
Bunny Girl Senpai - The romance/mystery story that took the anime community by storm. The movie that came out later was a heartwrencher too. So good.
Tumblr media
Run With The Wind - Here we get to my AOTS and strong contender for AOTY. I never thought that an anime about a bunch of boys working towards running a relay marathon would be one of my favorite shows of the entire year, but here we are. It just has so much heart and soul that’s it just ends up being a greater than the sum of it’s parts situation.
Tumblr media
Alright, so we have A Place Further than the Universe, Megalo Box, Asobi Asobase, and Run With the Wind. Like with every year so far, the AOTY comes down to personal preference and this year goes to Run With the Wind.

Hey all, Scott here! Don’t you just love crossovers? I sure as hell do! It’s always fun to see characters from multiple universes collide. But, what if you could be in a crossover yourself? My dream is to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but I’m too much of a loser for it! Nobody would play as “the virgin who likes Nintendo.” Well, luckily, I got a backup plan. A backup plan to get in the biggest, best crossover of all time— Well, it could've been worse. I could’ve ended up in Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL.

Faves of 2018: Anime contd.
My reflections on the last set of shows I enjoyed from 2018:
Tumblr media
1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These - To my understanding, this is a remake of the anime that aired in the 80’s - 90’s, and covers the first volume of the original novel, and I’m glad this is how it’s being presented. As to be expected, the show is clean and crisp, none of the animation being disregarded. This space opera is full of politics and intergalactic military strategy. The main characters are quite captivating and the writing is smart all around. The show has a clever way of jumping between the conflicts and politics that happen on both the battlefield and each respective federations territory. The anime is incredibly tight and concise, this first season consisting of just 12 episodes, but it is among the best produced packages to release this year. A highlight of the year that I can’t wait to see more from, and a show I’d recommend to anyone looking for an anime with a little more substance.
2. Megalo Box - an anime that restored that feeling. With just 13 episodes, Megalo Box did an amazing job of showcasing the rise of underdog boxer within a world that refused to recognize him. Very much the typical underdog story, akin to Rocky or any other sports film/anime, the familiarity of Megalo Box does nothing but boost how enjoyable it was in a summer season that didn’t have much going on. The show had an old school vibe, coming through in the plot, the characters, and the art direction. The cast is incredibly charismatic and each episode left me thirsty for more. I have got to say that I’m a sucker for these kinds of shows, and it delivered on all fronts. Like the main character, this show is relentless, but paced well with thoroughly profound writing. Something about the true nature of humans lies in the anime and it is certainly a genuine article as one of my favorites I’ve had the pleasure to watch.
3. Persona 5 The Animation - Unaware of the game that acts as the anime’s source material and the universe the show comes from, I’d have to say I really did enjoy the strangeness in Persona 5. Some of the sequences and animation were a bit offbeat, but in a charming way. At times it felt like watching a cut scene within a game. The anime really delivered with the plot and it pulled me deeper and deeper into its world, which I was fine with, even with not knowing where it would take me. There are plenty of tricks and deceits that are a part of the storyline that makes it a captivating watch. It feels as if the show breaks the fourth wall at times to really mess with the viewer. The art is clean, nothing revolutionary, but the anime continued to turn in on itself which made each week surprising. I have to say that some of the pacing threw me off, especially around the 3/4 mark, in the stretch between episodes 17-20, but it picked up well and I’m very eager to see how the cliffhanger is resolved.
4. Food Wars: Shokugeki No Souma SZN 4 - Continuing its reign as the gold standard for food in anime, Shokugeki no Souma is here again to amaze and flex its mastery of the culinary. There aren’t enough words to be said about how beautifully composed the anime is. It is faithful to the source material and adds dynamism and even more excitement to all the events and dishes served. I won’t keep you for too long, harping on how much I love this anime, but it is among my favorite of all time. It is pure entertainment and the perfect balance of sensuality, beauty, and comedy. Elite.
5. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online - an offshoot of the Sword Art Online universe and arguably the strongest among the other series in the franchise, SAO Alternative: Gun Gale online, is fun, plain and simple. Existing within the SAO universe, GGO is able to surpass its counterparts because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I was unsure of what to expect, with this anime, considering I’m not a fan of the original SAO series at all, but I’m glad I stuck around for all of GGO. It does so much with very little, electing to make the characters and overall story very lean. The motivations and ambitions are clear for everyone we are introduced to and the main focus of the show exists as a tournament between teams looking to win the battle royale. GGO does itself a great service by not trying to muddy the story with deep, complex real world actualities and commits to the virtual game world, making for an exciting sequence of events that unravel over 24 episodes. The anime operates as the most fun and enjoyable stream of FPS gameplay anyone could ask for, with genuinely likable characters, and that places it leagues above its predecessors.
6. Attack on Titan SZN 3 - Attack on Titan takes my vote for most improved thus far. Now airing in smaller, 12 episode seasons, Attack on Titan has figured out how to pace itself in a way that follows the source material and makes the events as interesting as possible. The first season suffered a bit in that it dragged for stretches while trying to build up the overall narrative. The journey has proved to be worth all the trouble because the past two seasons have been exceptional. Season 3 finds us mining much more of the human factor within the Attack on Titan universe, and although the show is addressing much more of the politics and personal dramas, it’s provided in digestible doses. With the 12 episodes, we are given a well-balanced plot that touches on every positive aspect of the show while being concise with the points that feel more laborious. What I also found interesting is the turning point this season proved for several characters, so now there is much more to look forward to in the ways the entire cast will develop as they dive deeper into the murky waters of the titan infested, human manipulated world they inhabit.
7. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind - Most Certainly bizarre and the most cohesive series in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure universe, Golden Wind delights with its charm and eccentricities and I hope it continues the course it is running. Anyone new to the JoJo universe doesn’t need to go back and watch previous seasons to enjoy Golden Wind, but it may help overcome some of the strange stylistic choices the anime takes. The show, like the previous seasons, is full of character, color, and life, and like previous seasons also a bit grotesque, maybe not the right word, but the first one that comes to mind. The story is interesting and the Italian setting makes it even more captivating. If taken not too seriously, the show is well executed and a carnival for the eye. There are enough interesting characters thus far, and I”m eager to see where the show takes them over the next 20+ episodes.
8. SSSS.Gridman - Another Studio Trigger production, another beauty to debut this year. A modern animated adaptation of the early 90’s live action series, SSSS.Gridman is a super stylized, sophisticated anime about a giant robot that fights of giant monsters, what’s not to like? The anime is the glossiest rendition of the robot vs monster genre that slowly unravels to reveal ambitions to investigate the human condition. What was first something simply fun to watch, has transformed, like the protagonist of the show, into something much more complex. The show has done a good job of taking a seemingly childish setup and adding layers to it. With the show on a few episodes away from the finale, I find it to be one of the most satisfying 12 episode anime to come out of 2018.
9. Banana Fish - Fitting that the heaviest anime of the year is about to end just as the year is wrapping up. Thousands of words would be needed to fully unpack all that Banana Fish has addressed in its 23 episodes thus far, and with one to go, it will continue to build upon the sturdy foundation it started laying out when it premiered at the beginning of July. Banana Fish is a brutal, realist take on crime, drugs, sexuality, and desire. It never pulls any punches and is a winding tale that has turned on itself many times already. There is a coating of sadness that wraps every aspect of the show and succeeds in being able to pull at the audience at every event. I’ll have to revisit this anime after it ends and I’ve had more time to reflect because it truly has an extraordinary amount working for it.

Everything you need to know about Hosoya Yoshimasa (Part 2)
Round 2. Again, all these are taken from other sources and my own observation.
Tumblr media
- Blood Type B (same as mine)
- I made a mistake in Part 1. When Hosoya was born, he was born with an extra finger on his right hand and had it surgically removed. I didn't realise until recently that his right hand looks a little different, but not that it matters. He's beautiful just the way he is.
Tumblr media
Above: "Couple tee" with Ono Kenshou. If you look at his hand on the left side you'd realise his thumb looks different.
- I feel like when he gets excited or nervous, he'll mess up a little and say the wrong thing.
Example: saying "Team Estacy" instead of "Team Shiraishi" during Shiraishi Kuranosuke Concert
Saying "single" instead of album (on MaxBoys video ft Masuda Toshiki)
Tumblr media
- An awkward precious dork who probably wants to fit in but find it hard to do so.
- A super kind senpai to others. He has a good relationship with lots of people younger than him including Uchiyama Kouki (he has mentioned he wanted to work with him, and Kouki calls him Yoshimasa-kun), Ono Kenshou, Ono Yuuki (who calls him Yoshi), Kaji Yuuki, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Kimura Ryohei and so on.
- Pretty observant. He'll notice if a girl cuts her hair or put on a different make up (can I marry this guy)
- Has good instincts / gut feeling in my opinion.
- Before his first live, he ran to the washroom to scream his heart out because he was so nervous.
- On his radio show Tensai Gunshi, Hosoya said he went to New York (during his break last year) and seemed to enjoy his time there. Also, though he never mentioned it, he went out with Kaji Yuuki and I think Miyano Mamoru.
- On another episode ft. Hikasa Yoko, her reason on why Hosoya isn't able to get married was because he's troublesome and acts like a girl.
- Likes spiritual things and horoscope. He can read people's palm, though he prefers his own to be read.
- Can I say he's kind of an airhead (not in an offensive way)? Like he'll forget his lines or mistake what other people are talking about (kind of like me). But that's what adorable about him.
- This is from All Out radio which I heard from a Chinese website: when Hosoya was 25:
1. He wouldn’t get mad even in unreasonable situations as he feared it wasn’t good to show his negative feelings. If he did get mad (which is rarely) he would be loud like “HUH?!”
2. He smoked for almost 4 years. It started when he met a psychic, and that person told him that he should learn to scold people (he couldn’t even curse at his age).
Now:
1. He learned to get mad. Though he rarely gets super angry, when he does, he learnt to express it calmly instead of shouting.
2. He set some boundaries/rule for himself and once someone breaks it, he would say it. He also said that he can be very ruthless when doing business (voicing) like he’ll say “I can’t do that”.
3. He stopped smoking, and he’s more mature in general.
- Hosoya added that he saw another psychic recently. This time the person said he isn't the leader type but likes to be the center (where he'll be surrounded with communication the most) which he agrees. He's also prone to get lonely at home and fall in love with weird people (lol) so now he heads out pretty often, and is pretty happy. Listening to all these I feel that Hosoyan really has gone through a lot. I'm super proud of him!
- Words he says a lot during events or radio:
1. Hora! - You see?
2. Nankako... - Um... (how do I put it...?)
3. Ano / Eto - Um (again)
4. Nantonanku - Anyhow (like oh, I just chose this character without reason)
5. Nanteiu desu ka? - How should I say this..?
6. Uses "Boku" to address himself (typically males use "Boku" or "Ore")
- Loves sea urchin. Dislikes spicy curry.
- Hosoyan said that he fears women because women might leave him. Though of course, he'd love to be married. His type of girl (from different sources) is someone who can protect him, or someone younger but firm. He has stated that he's easily influenced. (Please let this precious dork find someone and start a family)
- Hosoya seems to be proud of his age. He talks about being 36 years old (in at least three events) and so on. In a Megalo box video (no subs) he had said that in his 36 years of life he did everything he wanted when voicing Junk Dog / Joe. (Again, proud of you Hosoyan!)
- My personal favourite pictures of Hosoya:

Doesn't he look like he's waiting for his girlfriend? XD
