Famine Imminent In North Gaza By May, Urgent Intervention Needed: UN
The Situation is Particularly Dire in the North of Gaza Where There are About 300,000 People, the UN Says

Half of Gaza residents are experiencing "catastrophic" hunger, with famine projected to hit the north of the territory by May without urgent intervention, a United Nations-backed food security assessment has warned.
"People in Gaza are starving to death right now. The speed at which this man-made hunger and malnutrition crisis has ripped through Gaza is terrifying," the head of the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) Cindy McCain said.
"To have 50 percent of an entire population in catastrophic, near-famine levels, is unprecedented," Beth Bechdol, the deputy director general of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), told AFP.
This amounts to around 1.1 million people "struggling with catastrophic hunger and starvation", according to the WFP.
It added: "This is the highest number of people ever recorded as facing catastrophic hunger" under the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) partnership, which published its latest report on Monday.
Aid charity Oxfam on Monday accused Israel of continuing to "systematically and deliberately block and undermine" the delivery of aid into Gaza, in violation of international humanitarian law.
The IPC system, conducted by the UN and aid agencies, is used by the UN or governments in deciding whether or not to officially declare a famine.
"Famine is imminent in the northern governorates and projected to occur anytime between mid-March and May 2024," the IPC report said of Gaza.
"All evidence points towards a major acceleration of deaths and malnutrition. Waiting for a retrospective famine classification before acting is indefensible," it said.

More than 600 Million Muslims
'Wasted' Children
A famine is declared when 20 percent of households face an extreme food shortage - which is the case in Gaza, the UN says - one in three children are acutely malnourished, and at least two in every 10,000 people die every day of starvation or malnutrition.
Children in Gaza face "extremely critical health conditions ... exposing them to high-risk nutritional deterioration", the IPC report said.
According to the WFP, "one in three children below the age of two is now acutely malnourished, or 'wasted'.
"This means they are dangerously thin for their height, which puts them at risk of death."
Arif Husain, WFP's chief economist, warned the final criteria for declaring a famine - the mortality rate - would "happen any time from now until the end of May".
FAO's Bechdol said that challenges of data collection and analysis meant it was "possible that famine is already occurring in the north".
Gaza residents were "turning to alternative sources" for food, including animal feed and "inedible items, purely out of desperation", she told AFP.
Tumblr media
Donors have turned to deliveries by air or sea, but air and sea missions are no alternative to land deliveries, UN agencies say.
WFP said meeting basic food needs would require at least 300 trucks to enter Gaza every day and distribute food, especially in the north.
The agency has only managed to get nine convoys into the north since the start of the year, it said.
The latest of these, on Sunday night, involved 18 truckloads of food supplies delivered to Gaza.
"The convoy, the second to use a coordinated route into Gaza and the north, delivered some 274 metric tonnes of wheat flour, food parcels and ready-to-eat rations.
"This route needs to be made available for daily convoys and safe access to the north," it said.
The Rome-based agency said it needed Israel to "provide more entry points into Gaza" and allow use of the Ashdod port to bring in food aid.
The WFP's Husain said: "Our hope is we can still avert a full-fledged famine."
"But the window is shutting and it is shutting very, very fast".

i've seen people say blanketly that "orthodox jews" are antizionist because of how much the antizionist propaganda machine pushes the naturei karta and alligned groups. and its not only bonkers because of how much of a minority they are among jews, but also because of how horrifyingly and terribly racist they are. they are only "antizionist" because they believe we can't return to israel until the messiah comes. when the messiah comes, they believe that the palestinians will disappear/become slaves. i'm not joking.
youtube
these people are disgusting and news agencies need to stop platforming them just because they'll say whatever about the jewish community and judaism for a buck. this is what news agencies like TRT World (Turkish public broadcaster) are pushing.
youtube
this is how we're getting the "zionists aren't real jews" bullshit. from these racist fucks.

The hospitals in Rafah have only three days of fuel left to sustain operations, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on May 9.
Shortages have already forced one of three remaining hospitals to shut down in the southern city of Palestine's Gaza, according to the humanitarian agency.
The Israeli army began a ground offensive in Rafah on May 6, after issuing orders to Palestinians to evacuate from eastern Rafah to what "it deemed an expanded humanitarian area" in Khan Younis and Al Mawasi.
Speaking to TRT World, the Secretary General of Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Christopher Lockyear, rejected the notion of a "safe zone."
"Al Mawasi is already a densely populated area - a lot of people living on the beach next to the sea with no infrastructure, no water, no electricity, no sanitation, no latrines, no toilets - that's not set up for a large-scale reception of even more people from within Rafah."
According to the WHO, "a new wave of displacement will lead to more overcrowding, reduced access to essential food, water, and sanitation services, and increased infectious disease outbreaks" in the overcrowded city.
Seven months of Israeli bombardment has left Gaza in a harrowing state, with Tel Aviv's war on the besieged enclave killing nearly 35,000 Palestinians, 70 percent of them children and women, and wounding more than 78,000 others.

Iran’s nuclear sites safe after Israeli strikes, UN watchdog says
Nuclear facilities in Iran remained intact, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Friday after explosions erupted near a major airbase in Isfahan, TRT World reports.
The agency said on X on Friday:
“IAEA can confirm that there is no damage to #Iran’s nuclear sites.”
Director General Rafael Grossi continues to call on everyone to exercise extreme restraint and reiterates that nuclear facilities should never be the target of military conflict, the report added. The agency said it was monitoring the situation very closely.
According to US and Iranian media reports, Israel struck Iranian territory using ballistic missiles, but none of the reports named the targets. The strike was in response to an unprecedented Iranian attack on Israel over the weekend.
Iran’s official state television confirmed “powerful explosions” in the central province of Isfahan but said nuclear facilities were not affected. Mehr news agency reported that three drones were destroyed in the skies over Isfahan province.
Isfahan, located around 350km south of capital Tehran, is considered to be a strategically important region and home to Iran’s several nuclear sites along with a major military air base.

For the State Department, Now It’s Türkiye, Not Turkey
Tumblr media
In a departure from the long-standing tradition The State Department will use the Turkish government's preferred spelling, Turkiye, instead of Turkey an official announced on Thursday. The spokesperson, Ned Price, said the U.S. Board on Geographic Names has given the new name its approval that is what the State Department will use in "most formal, diplomatic, and bilateral contexts," as well as in "public communications." The Mr. Price was asked about the change during a news event after the Associated Press reported it on Thursday. The official said that the change was taken as a result of the request of the Turkish Embassy. He added that the other U.S. government departments and agencies have already started using an alternative spelling. Turkish people have often referred the country of theirs as Turkiye (pronounced"tur-KE-yeh") since the country was founded in 1923, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. This Anglicized variant of this name of the country is the norm in all of Europe for a long time. The State Department's announcement came just 6 months following the time that Turkey official changed the name of its country to Turkiye in the United Nations. In the past President Recep Tayyip Erdoan has repeatedly criticized his country's use of an Anglicized spelling of his country, and has advocated for the majority of the world to use the Turkish name. In April of 2021, he signed an memorandum declaring that Turkiye is the best representation of Turkish heritage and culture which should serve as the name of the country across all the languages. Export-related products should bear the words "Made in Turkiye," not "Made in Turkey," the memo recommended. "The expression "Turkiye" symbolizes and conveys the Turkish nation's culture, civilization, and values in the best way possible," the memo stated and added that it should be replaced by the spellings that are used elsewhere, like "Turkei" and "Turquie" and "Turkey." In the past year the state broadcaster's English-language channel, TRT World, promoted an online campaign titled "Hello! Turkiye" to create "global awareness" regarding the new brand. The video illustrates people using the Turkish name of the country. Erdag Goknar, Associate Professor of Turkish as well as Middle Eastern studies at Duke University and Duke University, stated that although "Turkey" is viewed as an "holdover" from a colonial order, the usage in the name "Turkiye" is seen as emphasising national pride and agency. "'Turkey' was seen as being an outsider appellation with an imperial and colonial legacy," Professor Goknar declared. "Not least of all, the association with the bird was accepted as a denigrating legacy of a bygone era." State Department State Department has previously adopted name changes requested by different nations, such as Swaziland that in the year 2018. changed the names by changing it to Kingdom of Eswatini or Eswatini. At the time of writing at noon, as of Thursday afternoon, the State Department had not changed their website with the new name for Turkey. Read the full article

Ankara, Turkey — Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has sent a letter to the United Nations formally requesting that his country be referred to as "Türkiye," the state-run news agency reported. The move is seen as part of a push by Ankara to rebrand the country and dissociate its name from the bird, turkey, and some negative connotations that are associated with it.
Anadolu Agency said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres, confirmed receipt of the letter late on Wednesday. The agency quoted Dujarric as saying the name change had become effective "from the moment" the letter was received.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government has been pressing for the internationally recognized name Turkey to be changed to "Türkiye" (tur-key-YAY), as it is spelled and pronounced in Turkish. The country called itself "Türkiye" in 1923 after its declaration of independence.
In December, Erdogan ordered the use of "Türkiye" to better represent Turkish culture and values, including demanding that "Made in Türkiye" be used instead of "Made in Turkey" on exported products. Turkish ministries began using "Türkiye" in official documents.
Earlier this year, the government also released a promotional video as part of its attempts to change its name in English. The video shows tourists from across the world saying "Hello Türkiye" at famous destinations.
The Turkish presidency's Directorate of Communications said it launched the campaign "to promote more effectively the use of 'Türkiye' as the country's national and international name on international platforms."
It was not clear whether the name, with a letter that doesn't exist in the English alphabet, will catch on widely abroad. In 2016, the Czech Republic officially registered its short-form name, Czechia, and while some international institutions use it, many still refer to the country by its longer name.
Turkey's English-language state broadcaster TRT World has switched to using "Türkiye" although the word "Turkey" slips in by journalists still trying to get used to the change.
TRT World explained the decision in an article earlier this year, saying Googling "Turkey" brings up a "a muddled set of images, articles, and dictionary definitions that conflate the country with Meleagris - otherwise known as the turkey, a large bird native to North America - which is famous for being served on Christmas menus or Thanksgiving dinners."
The network continued: "Flip through the Cambridge Dictionary and "turkey" is defined as "something that fails badly" or "a stupid or silly person."
TRT World argued that Turks prefer their country to be called "Türkiye", in "keeping with the country's aims of determining how others should identify it."

Muslim Congresswoman Tlaib Speaks at Event Featuring Jihad Supporters
Biden - or his Muslim Brotherhood advisors - has appointed several Kashmiri Muslims to high-ranking positions in his administration.
Tumblr media
A Kashmir Solidarity Day event, dedicated to promoting the Islamist narrative on a decades-old conflict, drew the radicalized son of a prominent jihadist as well as a sitting member of Congress.
U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., spoke at the Feb. 5 webinar sponsored by Justice for All, the activist arm of the Chicago-based multimedia company Sound Vision. Sound Vision is an offshoot of the proselytizing group, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA).
...
Ahmed bin Qasim, a journalist with the Turkish government mouthpiece TRT World, joined Tlaib at the Kashmir solidarity event. He is the son of prominent Kashmiri jihadist Ashiq Hussain Faktoo and hardcore separatist leader Aasiya Andrabi.
Qasim described the Kashmir policy under successive Indian administrations as "evil" and claimed that "both in the Indian secular liberal imagination, and in the Hindu fascist imagination, Kashmiris are demons, they constitute the other, and they are killable people."
His Twitter posts, that are now visible only to his followers, advocate Islamist insurrection in Kashmir.
"My dear mother, may you continue to agitate and frustrate the colonizer like you always have. #InternationalWomensDay," Qasim wrote last March. Another tweet quoted Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Riyaz Naikoo saying, "No colonial occupation has continued forever, and it is our firm belief that the Indian rule in Kashmir will also collapse sooner or later, until then, we will fight."
A former top commander of the Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen (JUM) Faktoo was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the 1992 murder of prominent Kashmir Pandit (Hindu) human rights activist Hriday Nath Wanchoo.
The pro-Pakistan JUM emerged in 1990 as a breakaway faction of the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and is reported to have carried out terror attacks in J&K. Faktoo reportedly is a founding HM member.
Qasim's mother, Aasiya Andrabi, is a hardcore pro-Pakistan separatist leader. She was arrested in April 2018 for running the terrorist organization Dukhtaran-e-Milat (Daughters of the Nation). In December, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court ordered Andrabi and two of her associates be charged with sedition and conspiracy to commit terrorist attacks.
Dukhtaran-e-Milat, a banned outfit, has "called for jihad and use of violence against India," India's National Intelligence Agency said.
In 2015, Andrabi addressed a Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) rally in Pakistan via telephone. The rally was led by JuD chief Hafiz Saeed.
Saeed is the co-founder of the U.S.-designated terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that left 183 people dead and hundreds injured.
"I am educating my two sons to follow the steps of [Osama] bin Laden and [Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad] Omar," Andrabi reportedly told Agence France Presse (AFP) in 2002.
"There is a dire need for Muslims to rise to the occasion and wage jihad against the forces occupying Palestine, Kashmir and Chechnya," she said. "A Muslim who dies without an urge of jihad in his heart dies as an infidel and not as a Muslim."
Sound Vision, the Kashmir Solidarity Day webinar organizer, was created in 1988 by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), which was set up to establish "Iqamat Deen," the Islamic system of life, in North America with the ultimate goal of founding a global Islamic state or caliphate.
It has a long history of advocating for Kashmiri self-determination. ICNA's flagship publication, The Message International, featured an exclusive interview with Syed Salahuddin in 1997, lauding the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander as the "undisputed leader of the mujahideen struggling to liberate the territory of Kashmir from brutal Indian occupation." The U.S. Department of State designated Salahuddin a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) in 2017.

KAAN's features include high situational awareness, optimised pilot workload, combat damage detection, and more.
Türkiye's first domestic fighter jet KAAN, designed and manufactured by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), has successfully conducted its maiden test flight.
Temel Kotil, the head of TAI, said on X that KAAN stayed in the air for 13 minutes and reached a speed of 230 knots at an altitude of 8,000 feet during the flight on Wednesday.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Türkiye has left behind another critical stage to produce its own fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
"In the coming period, we will continue to give new good news to our nation in the defense industry," he wrote on X.
Tumblr media
KAAN aims to rejuvenate the Turkish army's fleet, making Türkiye one of the few countries to own this technology.
Projects for the production of KAAN began in 2016, and the fighter jet was rolled out in March 2023.

It has several features such as high situational awareness, optimised pilot workload, combat damage detection, new generation mission systems, low observability, precision strike, and internal weapon bay.
Türkiye Rising in Defence Industry
Türkiye has become a defence products exporting country thanks to a positive change that happened because the Turkish government decided to make its own weapons in the early 2000s.
Tumblr media
Since then, Turkish companies have been producing various military equipment like rifles, armoured vehicles, missile systems, and advanced armed drones, which are now well-known worldwide.
The defence industry of Türkiye has significantly contributed to the national economy reaching a record level of $5.5 billion in exports, a 27 percent increase from the previous year.
Tumblr media
The average export value surpassed $65 per kilogrammes. This growth serves as an indicator of increased trust in Turkish defence industry products, with the number of countries receiving exports rising from 176 to over 185.

Foreign Minister Qureshi criticises Afghanistan's National Security Advisor's anti-Pakistan comments
On Monday, Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib was blasted by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who said he was not doing his nation any favours by making anti-Pakistan remarks.
The Foreign Minister spoke at a press conference in Islamabad on a variety of topics, including the Afghan peace process.
FM Qureshi said he was neither a spokesman for the Taliban nor an advocate for the group.
“I am only Pakistan’s foreign minister,” said Finance Minister Qureshi.
Speaking to TRT World last week during a visit to Antalya, Turkey, the foreign minister said the man “cannot send money to Pakistan” to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister has stated that Pakistan has been working constructively for peace and stability in Afghanistan and will continue to do so.
“But it’s a shared responsibility. You can’t go to Pakistan.

“Pakistan is a regional player. There are other global players and other very important interests in the region,” said the Foreign Minister.
F. M. Qureshi throws himself against the Afghan NSA
On June 5, Afghan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi chastised the Afghan National Security Agency for its anti-Pakistan comments, urging it to “reflect and amend” its actions.
In response to media inquiries on June 19, a Foreign Ministry spokesman strongly condemned the Afghanistan NSA’s “baseless allegations” and noted that Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process is widely recognized by the international community.
