Hello I am still here

Took a week off studying because I deserved it lol. But we're back! Revamped my digital planner for the month of June, and I also found my samsung tablet! It's an A series tablet (very old I know) but it still works! Sadly it's not S Pen compatible.

But the good news is I won't be using it to take notes lol (paper notes supremacyyy) but rather to sync it with my laptop and download PDFs so I can improve my library study sessions. I've begun to hit the library really often nowadays and it's really helping me study!

Slowly beginning to catch up with uni stuff, let's see how it goes :)

Medias I've used the most with my shifting journey (in a /pos way):

Tiktok: Accounts that have script templates is a MASSIVE timesaver if you don't know what reality you want to shift to (plus you can just delete stuff you dont wanna use) or too lazy to make your own. I've seen a variety between popular scripts to lesser known ones and even completely blank ones with just themes! I've also discovered GoodNotes through shifttok (which does have a paid subscription if you want to do more than 3 scripts, but if you like to have a digital bullet journal/scrapbook feel, it wouldn't hurt to try out/pos) along with how other people script which was interesting to me! The biggest puller for me personally is the art people make for/of their DRs as someone that does it themselves (and it gives me an excuse to gush over the person's art as a whole!)

Tumblr: Before I got back into shifting, I used to thread through the various tags for pngs/icons, banners and headers for my grimoire and my digital planner for college (and admire art and aesthetic stuff, along with info for said grimoire but that's unrelated). I even had to start a sideblog so I dont lose track of stuff I wanna use eventually. Tumblr also allows me to stay connected to my DRs by indulging in fics, fanart, headcanons, and other things that could trigger inspiration for a scenario (or an unintended memory/blip)

Amino: Yeahh I know it's not a lotta people's cup of tea. It takes some digging around to find some potentially useful stuff and if the community has a masterlist for it, there's divination shops/teams and free pick-a-pile readings! Some even submit script templates that you can copy+paste. I kinda just lurk around, do the daily check-in and keep track of angel numbers I've seen the day before for my spiritual journey but thats just me being me lmao

Pinterest: My other visual savior for scripting! I almost have a board for every reality I have a script for visualizing and refs for when I want to connect through making art. I know I can just download the images and add them to my actual script, but finding the stuff as is is enough work for me and I don't wanna spend more time scripting than I actually need to (and it makes sense for my adhd brain)

Notion: What I originally used for academics now houses a digital grimoire and a script hub. I don't remember what pulled me in to using it since I first started in 2019. I just became more obsessed the more I found out about how people set theirs up and make the layout as minimalist or maximalist as they wanted. I will say there are some limitations between using Notion on a phone vs. a computer or tablet along with the occasional hiccup, but overall it works effectively for me that makes it organized and pleasing to the eye

Etsy: Yep.. a place to shop. I used to splurge a ton on readings on there early in my journey (I still do every now and then now that I found some personal favorite shops) but you can also connect to your DRs without it being specifically shifting-related, like candles or wax melts— even a pin or keychain that reminds you of it somehow.

First art on a new tablet!

So, as an early birthday present I got an inexpensive portable tablet called a PicassoTab. I've had it for a bit but I've mainly used it to take notes for my externship and other things using the Squid notes app but I've finally sat down and pulled up mediabang and done real art.

So what do I think of this tablet?

The PicassoTab is an inexpensive general tablet that supports a real drawing pen. Basically, its a cheap iPad and apple pencil. Except I would definitely NOT call it cheap. Its actually a really nice little tablet and pen combo and I'm quite happy with it.

I'd liken it to my large Ugee tablet in terms of draw feel. Its very obviously a tablet and does not at all feel like drawing on paper. This can be a major downside for some artists to PLEASE keep that in mind. While I prefer my Gamon as far as draw feel, since I've used the Ugee before its not a huge downside and the portability makes up for that less than desirable draw feel.

The pen uses a single AAAA battery which isn't ideal imo. While it keeps the pen smaller and more pen sized, its a hard battery to find outside of online stores. Its not rechargeable so when the battery dies then you need a new one. Though there are rechargeable AAAAs out there, I dont know if they will fit as rechargeable batteries aren't the same size as their normal counterparts.

HOWEVER, I've been using this thing almost CONSTANTLY for over 2 weeks now and there is no sign of the pen dying so I think its got a good battery life and the passive discharge is minimal.

Whats nice about the Picasso is that its a general tablet as well as a drawing tablet. It has access to the play store and runs on android software. It came with 2 drawing apps installed and I really didn't care for them. But with access to the play store I was able to download mediabang which is a free software app that works wonderfully. It doesn't have all the same options as clip studio but its more than enough for the sketch book experience I want from this. I did make this art as a finished work on the Picasso but I didn't get it to replace my Gamon, just to replace the chunky sketchbooks and notebooks I used to carry around (and use less paper).

The other positive about it being a general tablet is that I can use it as a notebook, too. I write A LOT. Notes, lists, planners, ect. My house is stacked with notebooks of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I have SO MANY pens, too. Like WAY too many pens. But because the Picasso has access to the play store I can use the note app Squid to replace all of these notebooks and pens. I now carry around about 12 notebooks and counting in my purse and the notebooks have unlimited pages. Squid also lets you edit and move text after its written so its pretty easy to reorganize notes without rewriting everything.

So ya.

100% recommend if your looking for a portable sketchbook/notebook tablet.

Your digital planner looks cool. Is it an app or a program? Where do I get one?

I'm glad you asked! 💙 TECHNOLOGYYY 🤤

I happen to have two Samsung gadgets - a phone, Galaxy S10 Lite, and a tablet, Galaxy S6 Tab. I've had them for years, and I'm madly in love with both. 💙

Both come with an S-pen, Samsung's stylus. And both have this amazing program for absolutely free, Samsung Notes. I've tried countless note-taking apps, but this is the best, trust me. It has EVERYTHING you could possibly need, and one of the best things about it is that INSERTED GIFS ACTUALLY MOVE IN READ MODE! 🥹💙 And you can cut the pictures in a way that it snaps to the character's body, so you can make some custom stickers from your own screenshots! All with Samsung apps - the Samsung Notes and Gallery. 💙💙💙

The notebook template I used in my latest screenshot can be found at happydownloads.net. That site has loads of digital planners, from colourful rainbow ones to simpler, elegant ones (I got it for free somewhere a year ago, can't remember where 🤔). The site recommends you to use the Penly app (which isn't free), while the Samsung Notes does all that Penly can (and more) for free, if you get yourself a Samsung phone or tablet. Not to mention that you can pull off literally THOUSANDS of stickers off the Galaxy Store app for free, which you can use in your planner!

If you have both a phone and a tablet, they'll sync! 💙 So if I do anything on my tablet in Samsung Notes, it's going to appear on my phone in the Samsung Notes app as well! I made this on my tablet, but this is how it appears on my phone, and I can edit and rearrange and do whatever the heck I want (tick boxes in for example), and it'll appear with the changes on my tablet:

One of my favourite features is this: I like to put tons of pics in my journal if I'm not using some spaces to make it more colourful and cheer me up on the weekdays when I'm ultra stressed. If you open Samsung Internet and next to it, Samsung Notes, if you Google anything, you can drag and drop the picture in Notes - you don't have to download the pictures at all! I like to pull up my Pinterest board and pull over whatever I've pinned over my journal pages, then edit it (you can edit the picture like adjusting brightness/colors etc) as I want it to look like. 😊

There are also tons of other useful features, such as convert handwriting to text (all text or just the lasso selected words!), write by hand and it'll appear as text, shapes (if you draw a circle, box, heart, star, etc and hold the pen there, it'll shape it for you to look perfect!), insert pdfs, convert your notes to pdf, and much, much more - the possibilities are really endless! 😊💙

I was thinking about trying to make a few videos of how powerful these apps are and how I use them. Maybe I will if anyone is interested! 😊

GenHC 101: Preparing for Success!

As a first gen college student and of course as a freshman, there are many steps to helping your college experience be stress-free, exciting, and informative. You are currently in the phase where you chose your school of choice (Rutgers!), know where you are going to live, registered for your fall semester classes, and now wondering what to do next as soon as it is move-in day. Below I wrote some essentials to make your move-in day and first day of classes to be easy!

1. Dorm essentials: As a freshman, you are going to be doming at the Honors College. It is important to make sure that you keep your RUID and your keys in a safe place where you don’t lose it! I tend to keep in my bag or in lanyard that is hard to misplace. It’s important to make a packing list of essential things you may need such as toiletries, proper clothes, some snacks for late night studying, school supplies, a lamp (for night studying) and so much more; just remember that there are a couple of thing you are not allowed to bring to the dorms so to save you time and money, here is the link to things not allowed in Rutgers dormitories: https://ruoncampus.rutgers.edu/policies#:~:text=our%20prohibited%20items.-,The%20following%20are%20prohibited%20in%20and%20around%20residence%20facilities%3A,%2C%20unapproved%20hot%20pots%2C%20etc Also in this link, are other policy restrictions and approved accommodations to certain situations such as bringing a pet to school so check it out! When moving out, its important to collect anything you may have such as things in your fridges, drawers, desk etc.

2. Transportation: Whether you drive a car or you don’t, there are many ways to make it to you next class. For those with cars, it is important to learn about where to park to prevent yourself from getting a ticket. For those without a car or are choosing not to constantly drive to class, there is the Bus System that Rutgers has to offer. In order to find from point A to B accurately, Below I have the link to bus services showing the times that buses begin to work during the weekdays and weekends and the routes certain letter codes mean. https://ipo.rutgers.edu/dots/buses-nb It is essential to download the Passio.Go app to help you know when the buses are coming since many students are getting on the buses to go to class.

3. Class Preparation: Believe me, I’ve had days where I can be a bit overprepared or underprepared for my class for the day. Here, I have some tips to navigating classes and study times. The FIRST step before classes even begin is to find a planner. Whether a small academic planner on Amazon or using Google Calendar, it is important to have this lifesaver for writing down important dates for appointments, events, and of course, for writing down all your syllabuses of all your classes to ensure that not one assignment goes unseen or forgotten. The next step is packing for bookbag for the day. When using your computer or tablet, ensure that it is charged the night before! You don’t want your tool of taking notes to be unusable, Worst-case scenario, always have your charger in your bag at all times! It is also important to bring writing utensils and a folder, scrap paper and note taking paper in the case where you have no place in charging your computer anywhere. For studying tips, always find a location where it is time to study your courses. Libraries, student centers, computer labs are the best way to go. (Which is another reason why you need to bring your charger for late night studying at the libraries) I know, some libraries close later than others so to check study area hours, check it out over here: https://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/ You can learn about student center by searching on Google “Student Centers Rutgers New Brunswick” and the same with computer labs.

4. Checking Degree Requirements: As a first gen, choosing which classes to take can be confusing and stressful and that’s normal! To receive help with your degree, I would suggest to make an appointment with the HC Advisors and discuss a 4 year plan that you can take. Planning ahead is one of the best things you can do for your future self. To make an appointment with HC Advising, I have the link attached below. https://honorscollege.rutgers.edu/academics/academic-affairs-advising In this link, it also provides the requirement you need to complete your HC requirements. For your specific major, I recommend going to Degree Navigator, typing in your program of study and planning the courses you need with the drop down list of the planned courses. That way, you can check which courses are applicable to you and overall save you time and money on classes you need. Remember that your also has their own requirements, For SAS for example, they have specific core requirements you need to graduate from the school of SAS so you can check it out on their website: https://sasundergrad.rutgers.edu/degree-requirements/core For checking out your courses, check out Degree Navigator in this link: https://cas.rutgers.edu/login?renew=true&service=https://dn.rutgers.edu/Default.aspx/ I know at this point you seem a bit stressed about your degree requirements but do not be afraid to ask questions to the advisors, they are always there to help you!

5. Getting Involved + Working + Self Care:

Whether finding a community that is within the Rutgers campus that tailors to your interests such as cultural clubs, gaming, intramural sports or fellowship, Rutgers has the ability to provide you which organizations are there to help you in this link called Rutgers GetInvolved: https://rutgers.campuslabs.com/engage/ Here, you can see anything your club of interests hosts and the times they are meeting. Don’t be afraid to reach out and sign up for the following events! Here, you can make many new friends and connections.

For me, alongside my classes, honors college, finding time to study and dedicating working out, I also had to prioritize ROTC and working my part time job. The best way to manage all this is making a weekly schedule on a spreadsheet indicating what time is for what, that way you can easily access what you need to do for the day and see if you are prioritizing time for yourself. For example, I know I need to set a realistic, healthy sleep schedule so I put in my weekly schedule the time I should sleep. I also aim to set some time to study what I need to accomplish from my back-to-back classes. Which this set the extra hours are where I do my part time job. If you are looking for a part time job, you can apply through Rutgers Job Search https://jobs.rutgers.edu/  in this link or depending on your field of study (mine is medical) you can contact nearby facilities and professors, to see any open positions to apply to.

As for self-care, fitness and eating right are essential to making sure you feel energized to do all these things for the day. For fitness, you can check out when Rutgers facilities are open until when. For example, the Werblin Gym at Busch has an Olympic pool you can practice swimming in and recreational areas for sports. College Ave Gym has specific hours for the Olympic weightlifting area or for the general workout area that you can check in this link: https://recreation.rutgers.edu/facilities They also host classes for yoga, pilates and more so make sure to check those out as well! For eating, you can check the dining hall menus, special eating accommodations and other places to eat using this link in addition to hours they open and close: http://food.rutgers.edu

Overall college is more than just going to classes to get a degree. I hope this helped ease your stress and chaos as you begin your journey as a first gen college student and as an adult! ;)
