Daon had woken with a headache. It hadn't gotten better with coffee or tea or food, not even with the painkillers Shinwoo had forced into his hand before class or the few moments he'd snuck in the hallway with Taekyung, just resting against him.

But it was finally lunch time, finally a chance to slip away from every request for help and every smiling face that expected everything of him. And that was why Daon had carried his lunch to the student council room, smiling all the way despite the urge to simply bury his face in his tray of food to block out all the light.

And the door opened to darkness in the normally brilliant room. Daon blinked once, twice, before his eyes adjusted and he spotted two familiar shapes in the darkness.

"Taekyung? Shinwoo?" He stepped into the room, letting the door close and the dim lights go dimmer.

"You should tell us when you don't feel good." Taekyung's straightforward words were accompanied by Shinwoo removing the tray from his hands. "We want to know."

"It's not so bad," Daon tried to protest as his hands were taken, as he was guided to the couch by soft hands.

"Why do you bother lying to us?" Shinwoo huffed as he pushed Daon down onto the couch, ignoring the little grunt he made when that shook his head.

"I'm mostly okay," Daon's protest was weak as Taekyung knelt beside the couch, guiding him to stretch out.

There was a pillow under his head and a blanket tossed over him before he realized what was happening. The pillow was warm and one questing hand in the darkness found a heating pad beneath the softness.

"Namgoong said that it would help," Taekyung replied as he tucked the blanket around Daon's shoulders. "He said you used to do this when you could and he would secretly lock the door so no one could bother you."

"He did?" Daon smiled into the darkness, closing his eyes as the warmth began to relax him. "That makes sense."

"The door's locked," Shinwoo returned to the couch, kneeling besides Taekyung. "So now you have to relax."

"I don't think you can simply tell someone to do that," Taekyung pointed out as he shuffled from his knees to sit beside the bed.

Daon could feel them both right beside him, the brush of Taekyung's back to his shoulder and Shinwoo's shirt against his wrist. Their warmth radiated and the couch shifted just slightly as they settled beside him.

"You have long enough for a nap," Taekyung reached up and back with one hand, fingers brushing through Daon's hair.

With his eyes closed, the darkness and the warmth, Daon was barely keeping himself awake as it was. But the softest touches were what sent him past that, let the peace flow through him and drift into sleep.

He woke to the sound of whispers and the feel of fingers still on his hair, another hand on his wrist. In the dim light, as he opened his eyes, he could see two familiar heads leaning together.

The last thing he wanted to do was move or dislodge the soft touches that were keeping him relaxed. But the throbbing in his head had receded to the dullest pain in the back of his eyes and the inside of his mouth was dry enough to bother him even more.

“Daon?” Taekyung had turned to see his eyes open and nodded. “He is awake. You were right, Shinwoo.”

“Mmm,” Daon gave in, giving a nod as he slowly sat up. “I am.” He stared at them, both down on the ground, saw their fingers tangled together and smiled, “Thank you.”

“Glad you're feeling better,” Shinwoo grumbled as he tugged Taekyung up to the couch as well, their linked hands looped behind Daon's shoulders as they sat on either side of him. There was just barely enough space for all of them there, pressed together in space limited by the pillow.

“Here, have a drink of water.” Taekyung's free hand offered the bottle from the side table. “You've been sleeping for several hours.”

Daon's eyes went wide before he spotted the hint of a smile on Taekyung's face, the tiniest variant that told him exactly what he was saying.

“No, you didn't,” Shinwoo rolled his eyes. “Lunch is just ending. We were about to wake you up if hadn't. Stop teasing him, Taekyung.”

“Don't worry,” Daon was quick to reassure Shinwoo as he accepted the water. “I understood the joke.”

Silence came again and Daon relaxed into the quiet. He leaned against Taekyung and felt the way he shifted to accept his weight, the way Shinwoo tugged on the other teen's arm to adjust for the change in their position.

“Thank you,” Daon knew he was repeating himself. But between the warmth of their bodies and the cool water and the dim room, there was nothing that could stop the gratitude and love the flowed through him. “Thank you, so much.”

“That's what we're here for.” Taekyung nodded in return.

“Yeah,” Shinwoo agreed as he reached over, squeezing Daon's wrist. “That's what this is about.”

“This?” Taekyung glanced at Shinwoo.

“Our relationship,” Shinwoo mumbled when Taekyung waited out his silence.

Daon laughed, soft and light at first and then deeper when both of them turned to stare at him.

“I love you both,” he finally said as the laughter trailed off. “Thank you, again. I feel much better.”

Before Taekyung could reply, the bell for the end of lunch rang. Rueful glances were exchanged all around before they stood up from the couch.

“Here,” Shinwoo shoved a granola bar into Daon's hand. “You missed lunch.”

And he was out the door, dragging Taekyung behind him and his ears a brilliant red.

Daon smiled as they left. He waved until the door closed and he was smiling as he grabbed his bag.

The rest of the day would be much better, wouldn't it?

taekyung/shinwoo/daon canon-aligned polyamory au

first, I think it’s very plausible that daon and shinwoo liked each other before taekyung came into the picture

shinwoo, due to the stuff that happened in middle school, wouldn’t have said anything about his feelings and would have keep them under wraps

daon, my beautiful repressed gay son, would not have interpreted his feelings towards shinwoo as romantic even if he recognizes that his feelings for shinwoo are different than for his other friends (he would prob just think it’s bc his friendship with shinwoo is more authentic compared to other people who only like him on the surface level)

but like, with the whole love triangle thing, I feel like it was easy to forget that daon and shinwoo are actually close friends and were shown to have a good understanding of each other

so they’re basically stuck in this place where without taekyung’s bluntness and openness, nothing would ever happen--shinwoo wouldn’t make a move without some indication (conscious or not) from daon, and daon would probably never stop to really examine his own feelings

then comes along taekyung and events are set into motion and there are a lot of confusing emotions going around

shinwoo just wants his friends to happy, even if it’s without him, but obvi there’s a lot of mixed feelings of jealousy--jealousy that they’re happy together, jealousy that taekyung picked daon over him, jealousy that daon choose taekyung even though shinwoo’s liked daon all along and like, why is taekyung the one who broke down your walls and not me? but also i completely understand bc it’s taekyung and of course you love him, i understand bc i feel the same way

daon is also confused bc he likes taekyung, he knows he does, so why does it feel kinda similar to how he feels about shinwoo if he only likes shinwoo as a friend?

but daon is feeling this all while going through all the other shit of his sexuality crisis and fear of being outed so he never really examines this fully or reaches any kind of conclusion

taekyung meanwhile is not experiencing quite the same level of confusion bc he’s starting to fall for shinwoo after everything that happened with daon and so he assumes it’s normal to still have lingering feelings while he’s figuring it out

so taekyung still chooses shinwoo, bc shinwoo’s been there for him and he genuinely likes him, but his feelings for daon never really disappear and he feels guilty and like he can’t fully commit to shinwoo if he still likes daon

so taekyung, being who he is, decides to talk it out with shinwoo rather than trying to hide the issue and he’s really worried about hurting shinwoo, and that shinwoo will think he doesn’t actually like him and only used him as a rebound or whatever so he tries to assure shinwoo that he does like him...he just sort of likes daon too and he doesn’t know what to do bc he’s still new to all this

but then shinwoo admits that he also kinda likes daon and has liked him for a while and now they’re at an impasse bc you have shy and awkward shinwoo and taekyung who’s never been in a relationship or even had friends so they don’t really know what to do now or even if they’re supposed to do something about this

so taekyung spends the night on the internet and finds out about polyamory and tells shinwoo about it and they agree to talk to daon about it

(keep in mind these are two clueless babies in their first relationship and it’s like “so...do we just ask him out?” “i think so” “you think so?” “i don’t know how this works” “you’re the one who did the research!”)

meanwhile daon has been having some epiphanies seeing taekyung and shinwoo together. namely, now that the gates have opened and taekyung has sparked his sexuality crisis, he starts reexamining his feelings for shinwoo and realizes that maybe he doesn’t think of shinwoo as only a friend--but it doesn’t matter at this point bc it’s too late anyway

anyway then taekyung and shinwoo sit him down for a talk and they’re acting very serious and he’s worried about what they’re going to talk about (have they realized my feelings and i’m making them uncomfortable?) but then they ask him out and he’s surprised pikachu meme

the following discussion is very cute and very awkward (bc none of them know what they’re doing) and it filled with lots of “wait you like me?” kind of moments and once everything is out in the open they agree to give it a shot

it’s very awkward and clumsy in the beginning as they all try to figure out how it’s gonna work but eventually they settle into a rhythm and they’re very happy together

the thing that i love the most about tae and shinwoo's relationship is how they make each other show aspects of their personalities that are usually hidden away from everyone else or that they wouldn't want to display in front of others.

around shinwoo, taekyung becomes talkative, he starts teasing and joking around (a thing he has only done with shinwoo so far), and admits to being mad or annoyed or happy. its delightful to see him being this open with someone. he is one to keep a straight face at everything and not care about others, but with shinwoo, he gets nervous, he overthinks, he jokes, he laughs, he experiences things he doesnt with others, not even daon.

around taekyung, shinwoo becomes SO VULNERABLE. he is one to put on a barrier, a wall between himself and everyone else, and hides behind silences and angry tones and replies. but with tae, we can see he is just scared, that he gets nervous, that even if he lacks courage, he still tries his best bc he knows tae is what he wants. noh shinwoo becomes open to his feelings, he lets himself be taken care of by tae (which is quite shocking, seeing as he displays himself as such an independent individual) and bathes in that care and preens. we ve never seen him like this before. i mean, yes, he has shown he was whipped, but never to the point in which he will willingly step out of his comfort zone to be around someone.
