You know, for all the very good reasons to shit on Denning, I do think some credit is due for how much his writing manages to make me laugh, even though it's usually when he's trying to be completely serious.
Here's a top five list:
5: Fey'lya pulling up file holos to convince the Senate that he's having an Important Discussion With The Generals.
4: A Hapan household servant insulting Jaina and Zekk's flying, based on alleged simulator experience with N-1s and vulture droids.
3: Aurra Sing, of all people, getting her ass kicked by Jacen's five-year-old daughter.
2: Wynn and Gavin and Bwua'tu being in the room when Luke learns Abeloth's origin story. No amount of pay would be enough for this.
1: Lando and Booster using a celebrity sabacc tournament as collectively willing hostages.
(Honorable mention: Daala telling Jag "a Sith is just a Jedi who's gone off his meds.")

A Path to Sith - Part 1
Tumblr media
— WARNINGS: angst, profanity — WORD COUNT: 1.7k (for now) — PAIRING: Anakin Skywalker x Fem!Reader — a/n: this is my first mini series, I hope you guys will like it c:
Tumblr media
The room was dimly lit—a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing within its walls. Shadows danced along the stone floors, cast by the flickering glow of a single candle. The air was heavy with the scent of old parchment and the faint, metallic tang of the lightsabers that hung silently in the corner. It was a place of refuge, a hidden sanctuary where secrets were spoken and hearts laid bare.
The young Padawan moved restlessly across the space, her footsteps muted by the thick, woven rugs that covered the cold stone. Her slender frame was silhouetted against the faint light filtering through the small, high window, a window that offered a narrow view of the sprawling Coruscant skyline. She was a figure of quiet strength, her posture rigid, her gaze fixed on the horizon as if seeking answers in the endless expanse of skyscrapers. She gnawed at her nails, a nervous habit she had never managed to break. The wind whispered through the open window, carrying with it the promise of a cooler night. But inside, the atmosphere was anything but cool; it was charged with the electricity of emotions too potent to be contained.
Her mind was a whirlpool of emotions, a tempest of fear, longing, and determination. Each step she took seemed to echo her inner conflict, the sound reverberating off the walls of the small, confined room. The room itself felt like a metaphor for her life within the Jedi Order—restrictive, controlled, devoid of the warmth she so desperately craved.
Anakin sat on the edge of a low, worn-out sofa, his posture tense, muscles coiled as if ready to spring into action. His brow was furrowed in deep concentration, eyes following her every movement with concern, tracing the lines of her form, the set of her shoulders, the curve of her neck. He could see the tension in every muscle, the resolve hardening her features. The soft hum of the city outside seemed distant, almost otherworldly, as if the room existed in a different plane where only their struggle mattered.
Anakin's thoughts were a chaotic swirl of love and duty, longing and fear. He felt the weight of his commitment to the Jedi Order, the unyielding expectations of the Council pressing down on him. Yet, in her presence, all those obligations seemed to pale in comparison to the intensity of his feelings for her.
The silence between them was thick, almost palpable, broken only by the soft sounds of her pacing. Anakin's heart pounded in his chest, the weight of unspoken words pressing down on him. He had sensed this coming, the gradual erosion of resolve, the growing chasm between duty and desire. But now that it was here, the reality of it struck him with a force he wasn't prepared for.
Finally, unable to bear the silence any longer, she stopped, turning to face him, her eyes reflecting the turmoil within her. She took a deep breath, her eyes darting between the window and the door as if expecting someone to burst in at any moment, the decision she had wrestled with for so long ready to spill forth. The room seemed to hold its breath, the stillness amplifying the intensity of the moment.
"Anakin," she began, her voice trembling slightly, "I can't do this anymore. I can't keep pretending that what we feel doesn't matter. I'm leaving the Order."
Her words hung in the air, a declaration that shattered the fragile equilibrium they had tried so hard to maintain. Anakin's eyes widened, and he sat up quickly, his worry etched deeply into his features. He knew the implications of her decision, the dangers that lay ahead, and the near-impossibility of what she was proposing.
"You can't just leave," he replied, his voice strained with urgency and fear. "You would be a target, hunted by the Council for desertion and betrayal. Even if you were to somehow evade them, you'd be living in a constant state of fear and tension."
He could see the devastation in her eyes, the desperation and longing that mirrored his own. The conflict within him was a storm, the fierce battle between his love for her and his duty to the Order. Yet, despite his fears, a part of him was tempted by the idea of leaving, of grasping at the life they yearned for together.
"I understand your pain," he continued softly, "this constant longing for something that— as much as we wish otherwise— cannot be. But know that I will always love you. If the time comes and the Council learns the truth, then perhaps, we can make our escape. But until then, let us cherish these stolen moments, for they are all we have."
Anakin's voice faltered, the uncertainty of their future weighing heavily on him. He moved towards her, his gaze softening as he reached out to pull her closer. The contact was a lifeline, a desperate attempt to hold onto the love they shared, even as the reality of their situation loomed large, an ever-present shadow over their lives.
"Please," he whispered, "let us wait. Let us continue to make the most of these fleeting moments."
But she pulled away, crossing to the other side of the room. She looked out the window, her back to him, her resolve hardening with each passing second.
"Anakin," she said, her voice steady and resolute, "I can't keep living like this. I refuse to be a secret any longer, to hide what we are. Tomorrow at dawn, I'm leaving. Come with me or don't. But this is goodbye to the Order, one way or another."
Her voice was firm, unyielding, and it struck Anakin like a blow. His steps faltered, the distance she imposed not enough to dull the impact of her words. He turned back, the conflict in his eyes evident.
"I'm bound by this path. I cannot go against the Council. Even if I wanted to, I'm afraid my duty to the Order would hold me back. My love for you is no less than what it was when we first met, but it is intertwined with my responsibilities."
Anakin's heart ached with the truth of his words, the vicious cycle of duty and desire reaching its gruelling climax, tearing him apart. He looked at her, his eyes pleading for her to reconsider.
The girl’s eyes blazed with intensity as her voice rose. She swiftly turned to face Anakin, her expression fierce. "You really trust the Council? The same Council that’s been manipulating you from the start?" she said. "Don't pretend you haven't noticed. They never trusted you, Anakin. They didn’t even want you at first, thinking that you were ‘too old’ and sensing the 'darkness' in you. They only took you in to honor Master Qui-Gon Jinn. They’ve been manipulating you, making you rely on them."
She took a step closer, her voice gaining strength. "Look at yourself. Wake up! They’ve been keeping things from you, excluding you from meetings. They even asked you to spy on the Chancellor. That’s not the Jedi way, but they didn’t care because it benefited them. And yet they say attachment is dangerous? You're being exploited. Anakin, deep down, you know it, but your loyalty to them makes you question yourself."
Anakin stared at her, his expression shifting between shock and understanding. "You could be right about the Council... I..." His voice trailed off, admitting to himself something he'd long refused to face. "But the Council is all I've ever known, all I've ever wanted. And...how can I trust what you say? It could all be a ploy by the Sith, meant to sow discord and destruction."
His loyalty to the Jedi Order still weighed heavily on him, a fortress he was reluctant to tear down despite its crumbling foundation. "I cannot simply abandon the Order and the teachings that have guided me. To do so would betray not just you but all the Jedi who've dedicated their lives to the Force. I'm caught in their web— bound by my oaths. I need proof, solid evidence of their corruption. Until then, how can I trust that you aren't part of the Council's manipulation, a beautiful trap to throw my life into chaos?"
Anakin's heart ached, his arms wrapped around the weight of the conflicting emotions that threatened to tear him apart. He desperately wanted to believe her, to cast off the shackles that bound him to a world he was beginning to question. But fear and loyalty, forged in the fires of a lifetime's commitment, clung tenaciously to him. Leaving the Order was not an option he was willing to entertain without solid evidence, even if doing so meant losing the love that was his very lifeblood.
Her breath hitched and the world seemed to stop as Anakin's words echoed in her mind. "And...how can I trust what you say?" "How can I trust that you aren't part of the Council's manipulation?" She froze, her face becoming an unreadable mask. Her eyes turned cold as she looked at Anakin. "Congratulations, Skywalker. You just lost the one person who loves you and hasn't manipulated you." Her voice was ice-cold. She walked out of the room, each step feeling like a stab in the heart. She knew Anakin would realize the Council's corruption eventually, but by then, it would be too late.
Anakin watched her swift departure, her chilling words gnawing at his very soul. In that moment, he felt the true weight of his words, the cruel irony of pushing away the love of his life for the very institution he was beginning to doubt.
"Wait," he called out hastily, injudiciousness driving him to pursue her. But the sound of her retreating footsteps echoed through the halls, leaving him alone with mounting regrets.
He sank to the floor, replaying the scene in his mind, each syllable of her parting words cutting deeper. Her accusations about the Council now rang louder than ever, but he had dismissed them, blinded by loyalty and fear. Anakin had lost the one person who truly saw him, and with her, a glimmer of hope.
The dawn would break soon, and she would be gone. He could only stand, a forsaken figure, as the sun rose on a new day, one bereft of the warmth he'd once found in her embrace. His world had fractured that day, an irreparable breach created by the shards of their forbidden love, now extinguished like a flame doused in the icy waters of reality.

5 - The Rise of Skywalker
Vader x Ex-Padawan reader - Chapter 5 - Meditation
Previous parts
Tumblr media
Summary: Vader finds out the true extent to how much damage his body endured after mustafar, meditation leads him to an old friend.
Thanks for all the love on this series! Reblogs and comments are what keep me going! <3
Warnings: panic attack description, hurt/comfort
No one would be that stupid.
Vader wasn’t sure what you meant until he saw it with his own eyes. People had a very healthy respect for you, especially the Rebels and their alliances. You had a reputation, one he didn't realize belonged to you. He had heard of the Shadow Tempest many times. The epic runs, always one step ahead of the Empire. The pilot behind almost all the notable Rebel wins. In all his time with you he always did most of the piloting, he knew there were a million things to do and sort out but more than anything he wanted to take you out and see who would win.
He sat there in a meeting of people, the higher-ups of the revolution, and watched as they listened to you. You never asked for anything, simply told them that he was on your side now and that he needed the best medical. In return, they would have your help in defeating the Empire. They were very eager to have your support, apparently up until this it was very hard to persuade you into helping them. Something he would ask more questions about as from what he was told your ship had been center stage in most Rebel wins. He was surprised that help from you and Obi-Wan was enough for them to overlook his past.
Obi-Wan let out a tense laugh as they handed him a bank card. Apparently, all his money was in his account and had been converted over to card technology despite his leaving.  He could go run off and be a murdering psychopath then come home and find out how much interest he had earned off his funds. This wasn't right. He didn't deserve this. People had to accept him at your request, but he could feel the way they trembled in his presence. Fear gripped people tightly and he could even feel their concern for you. Even without being able to read their thoughts, he knew their plans to pull you aside to see if you had stockholm syndrome or if he had possessed you. He guessed that was a good thing, people here cared about you. Everyone stopped what they were doing to greet you, relief that you were safe overwhelming their features, it was good to know it wasn’t skin deep. People really cared.
He was unsure about the Rebel's plans for the Empire though. But then again he was retiring from this world. He would kill the Sith, try to come back from being one, restore balance to the universe, and hide away with you - hopefully forever.
Ahsoka had not been pleasant, but she came around for the sake of ending the Empire. He hoped in time he could mend things with her. She had been your closest friend and he missed how easily she fit into the family that was formed during the Clone Wars. A family he had to put back together.
R2 was beyond happy to see him. He ran around him squealing loudly. Everyone looked horrified but he bent down and put his arms around the droid. Affection towards R2 was easy. He was the most dependable thing in his life for the longest time. He was well-maintained but still looked like he was an active participant in the war. He thought of all the lore that surrounded the Shadow Tempest, more than anything he wanted to pull R2’s memory and watch every bit of footage he had saved. He would come back for it another time.
“I kept her safe” R2 chirped loudly in his language and he laughed again patting the little droid on what would be considered his head.
“Thank you, you did an excellent job R2.”  He was grateful he left something behind to help you in his absence even if it was unintentional.
Then the medical meetings started. Once he saw all his options, he was overwhelmed. From the stem cells they had of his on file, they could re-grow most of his skin to cover the prosthetics. They would have to remove more of his arms and legs as the nerves had been permanently and purposely damaged where they met the metal prosthetics. The rest of his skin could be healed with minor scaring, they could even regrow his hair follicles.
After looking at the scans and seeing the damage Palpatine did he had to leave.
He had no idea what he gave up that day on Mustafar.
He lost the woman he wanted to marry, the ability to give her a nice life, to touch her without hurting her, to touch her and feel her skin. Not to mention the horrible things he had said to you at the end lived rent-free in your mind all these years.  He had given up the one person in the world he considered family, he had tried to kill his brother. All of this was to build something better for them. Yet he spent years trying to kill Obi-Wan, terrified of his old master. The sickness was too much to contain as it all came flooding back to him.
Let me go - he commanded you as he left the building. It was cruel but he was drowning in pain. He was so consumed with rage and self-hate he left to go to the temple where Obi-Wan had been going to meditate.
He knew the only true way out was through. He couldn't go on a rampage, couldn't give into weakness. He couldn't lose you again.
Palpatine had made him suffer to prevent him from his full potential. To keep him from his density. Just as the Jedi had done. Everyone wanted to hold him down, force him to comply, just like Watto. He had been so caught up in thinking he deserved the pain, which in his opinion he still did. Palpatine gave him the illusion of control and freedom. That power was so seductive but what had it gotten him? The lives he took ran through his mind at a speed that made him dizzy. Nausea gripped him as the familiar coldness ran up his limbs to settle in his stomach. It was what he imagined death felt like. The icy energy caressed his body, but he had been here too many times before to know he wasn't that lucky.
It was his punishment, he had earned it fair and square. A lifetime of suffering would never be enough to make up for the lives he took. His mind ran through this for hours as he sat in the temple trying to find peace and clarity.
He’d done too much, taken too many.
“You did what the Force deemed necessary.” The voice made him jump, not an easy thing to do. The hazy, glowing form of Qui-Gon was in front of him.
“I -” He started to argue back.
“You - are the living force. The Sith willed you into existence Anakin, there is a power in you unlike anything else in this Galaxy.” He explained calmly and his heart sank at the realization of his words.
“I’m evil.” His voice was so broken. A truth he always should have known deep down. There would be no path leading towards the man you wanted, needed, him to be.
“No, there is no good and evil in the true force, this concept of light and dark comes from the people sensitive to it and how they choose to use it. You are what it is in its true form”
“Then why is everything inside me so painful.” His voice was wet with the tears streaming down his cheeks. As far back as he can remember that power inside him has always been anger.
“Because you experienced great pain. You have to understand that your life was always one with the force. The choices you made were ultimately the direction of the force. It wants balance. The Sith and Jedi were flawed ways of doing things, it’s your job to follow this through.” His words brought tremendous relief and a tremendous amount of anxiety at the same time.
“I failed you.” He whispered.
“I failed you. Had I been around I fear that things would have been better for you. Obi-Wan was not ready, but that does not mean he doesn't care for you.” Qui-Gon smiled sadly. “You have done great things, terrible things, and carried the pain of  both of them.”
Anakin sobbed. This task he was burdened with, the pain he had to cause to settle debts that had nothing to do with him. Seeing Qui-Gon made him feel like he was ten years old again. He wanted to run into his arms and hold him.
“Thank you.” He said softly.
“Now, you must complete your training with Obi-Wan, I have shown him what is needed. You must also complete training your Padawan.” He gave Anakin a big smile. “She is more important than you realize. The second half of the prophecy rests on her shoulders. You must be there to help her carry it.”
“What’s the second half of the prophecy?” His voice went dark again. He didn’t want this nonsense anywhere near you. He wanted to end Palpatine and have this part of his life over with. Had he not sacrificed enough of himself for it? Had he not tried to make the right choice every time despite the cost? The only request he had ever had in this life was to spare you and his mother.
“Don’t worry about that. Just focus on training and confronting Palpatine. Only then you will be a Jedi, a true Jedi.” Qui-Gon looked at him for a long moment. “She will be fine.” His eyes held an emotion that Anakin didn’t understand. It scared him, but he trusted Qui-Gon. He didn’t really have a choice in the end, you were too involved to shut out. You were certainly not naive enough to dump off on some planet again.
He had a million questions but felt Qui-Gon fade out. A new presence took his place, one he knew could have no form or words. She could just manage a feeling and it was enough. It was more than enough, the feeling wrapped around him and he held onto his mother tightly.
After a long while, he came back to the present moment. He reached out to Obi-Wan, knowing that reestablishing the bond would be unavoidable.
Master - He reached out and felt the bond attach on the other side.
Anakin - Obi-Wan sounded surprised and the full force of his calm presence washed over Anakin. How much he had missed being able to reach out and feel his master. The feeling was so overwhelming he needed to stay in it for a moment.
I need your help - He was unsure of what he would have left to learn from Obi-Wan but he trusted Qui-Gon.
Obi-Wan rushed to the temple and Anakin could feel his unsettled nature. The concern for him made him want to cry again. He didn't deserve this side of Obi-Wan. He watched his master take in his meditation pose and his eyes softened. He sat next to him and Anakin tried to keep his composure as Obi-Wan’s arm came around his shoulders.
“I want to apologize again,” Obi-Wan whispered. He could feel Shmi’s presence had not left the temple yet.
“Please don’t.” Anakin choked. He could tell through the newly established bond just how much sorrow Obi-Wan’s heart carried. He was overflowing with it. He knew he felt responsible for Anakin’s mother, for how poorly the council had treated him, especially when he was a boy. He could feel how painful exile had been, how he couldn't escape Anakin so he moved to Tatooine to fully accept his punishment. How much he hated the sand, but how much he loved being close to the brother he lost.  Then he realized that the fresh paint and seasonal flowers on his mother’s grave was his doing. He could see his master there lighting a candle occasionally sitting with her telling her his best stories, all the moments she missed out on while he was away. The love for him that was often so well concealed flowed through the bond.
“We failed each other,” Anakin whispered.
“I was older and should have been wiser.” Obi-Wan said sadly.
Anakin told him about the prophecy and they sat there together considering things.
“You must overcome your emotions -” Anakin flinched and Obi-Wan put his hand back on his shoulder “ You must feel them and use them, but not be overwhelmed with them. Once you submit to your anger you lose the light, when you lose your anger and sense of justice, you lose your power. Everything must be about finding balance.”
Anakin nodded.
“Do you think she will stay?” Obi-Wan looked confused by his question.
“Why would she leave?” He asked softly, with tenderness in his features.
“The whole Sith creation thing. She wants me to be better, that doesn't sound good with my track record.” Anakin could feel his insecurities start to rise up and he took a breath.
Obi-Wan let out a laugh. “If she didn't want to see you she wouldn't have accepted jobs in Imperial air space for the past 7 years.”
“I still can't believe you let her do that stuff,” Anakin said slightly put out with his master.
“You think I could stop her?” He laughed again and Anakin shook his head.
_________________________
He reluctantly stood in the elevator up to your apartment. He should feel a sense of relief, or motivated towards his plan. Instead he just felt anxious. He wanted you more than anything else in the galaxy. He’d sacrifice what he had to. He didn’t care that it was attachment, you were going to be his at any cost necessary. If you were horrified what would he do? Just force you down and fuck you back into submission again?
No.
He sighed as the door to your apartment opened, he hated it when you forgot to lock the door.  You were in the kitchen cooking, the sight of him caused you drop the wooden spoon into the frying pan. Your fingers picked it out and you hissed as the heat stung your flesh.
Panic raced through him. Memories of Mustafar bit into his still aching flesh. He grabbed your wrist with too much force, using the other hand to manhandle you towards the sink. He put your fingers under cold water and tried to breathe.
_______________
Anakin’s gloved hand had a painful grip on your wrist as he held it under the cold water. The fear in his eyes scared you as a cloud of darkness wrapped around him tightly. He wrapped his other hand around your torso and rested his cheek on the top of your head. You could feel his tears sinking into your scalp.
“Anakin, it’s alright.” You said softly holding on to him with your free arm. “It won’t even scar, it doesn't hurt.”
Your words were from this moment in time and you knew his mind was far away. In a world you probably wouldn't be able to reach. You let him hold you tightly.
“I’m a Sith.” He said quietly making you jump slightly.
“I know.” You werent sure what exactly he was referring to.
“What do you know?” He asked pulling away to look down at you. He was so much taller, you felt swallowed by his frame.
“I had this vision? Not sure you could call it that exactly.” You tried to figure out what you wanted to tell him before you realized the best thing to do would be to read what you had written about it right after it had happened. No details would be missed or confused. “Here, I’ll grab my journal.” Your words did nothing to lessen his grip on you.
He gave you a conflicted look. With the force he grabbed a jar of burn salve from the fridge. He opened it and stuck your fingers in it.
“Just stay.” He was worn so thin it reminded you of when he had left you all those years ago. Three days he was at the temple, that probably meant three days without sleep. Not a good idea for Anakin.
“Which journal is it?” He asked looking for guidance.
“Erm - I’d have to help.” You picked the jar of salve up and kept your fingers inside it to appease him. Where did people go to get help for this sort of thing? You had no idea how to reassure him when he got like this. You just did what he wanted or had sex with him.
He was satisfied with this. He moved with you to the bedroom. He followed your gaze to the few shelves that held notebooks, knowing full well he wouldn't listen if you told him not to read them.
You pulled three from the shelf from around that time frame with the force and started flipping through them. His attention was engrossed with the colourful writing and drawings. You found the part you were looking for and handed it to him, returning the other two back to their place on the shelf.
You reluctantly gave it over to him and returned back to the kitchen. Thankfully dinner hadn’t burned, as he’d turned the element down. He followed you leaning against your island while you kept cooking. His red eyes making sure your fingers stayed coated in the salve.
You didn't hear him read the lines but you felt his heart clench. He rested his head in his hands for a moment.
“Why did you come back?” He groaned. When you had written down what had happened you were completely terrified. You’d faced him and thought he had killed you. You woke up a shaking mess and wrote down every detail you could recall in case it came back to hurt you one day. You could feel his shame at the fear bleeding through the pages.
“I didn’t I got captured.” You said evasively. You didn't know how to answer the question he was asking you.
“Why did you bring me back.” He clarified his eyes devouring you. A memory came to you of laying in a field with him after a mission had ended and you were waiting on the ship to be repaired. The grass was covered in wild flowers and you laid in the sun, you had feelings for him but didn’t know how to tell him. You’d almost been hit on the mission and the way he had hugged you after was replaying through your mind.
“I promised you I would always come back.” You referenced that moment when he had almost lost you for the first time. “There’s enough of you in there to make the risk worth it.”
He closed his eyes and you felt him breaking down. You turned the element off half expecting to get jumped.
“I’m sorry.” His words were so thick and raw.
“Me too.”
“No, you haven’t done anything. I did it all, turns out I had to in the end. But still, the things I’ve done to you-” His voice broke.
“I wanted you to.” You felt his mind revisit that first night you had back together.
“You didn’t.”
“I did. I don’t know if you know this but I’m quite vocal when I’m unhappy.” You smirked.
“You tried to push me away, I thought it was you pulling us together -” He took a deep breath. He needed to eat and then sleep before he got too carried away.
“I don’t care. I wanted you back. That’s what I got.”
“There’s another part to the prophecy.” His voice was low.
“Oh boy.” you whispered.
“Qui-Gon won’t tell me what it is, but it’s about you.” His features looked manic and you knew it was time to shut things down before he went over the edge.
“I can handle it.” You said staring him down. You wouldn't let him be an idiot about things this time. “Now. I’m going to wash my fingers off, we're going to eat. Then sleep.”  He considered you for a long moment. You could tell he was recounting what happened last time he got this worn down and scared.
He gave you a reluctant nod. You both ate quickly and despite it being 7:30 at night you got washed up and into bed.
Anakin fell asleep quickly leaving you time to think about everything. The true power of the darkside was a mystery to you.  Having been Force resistant for the past 7 years, you felt particularly extra sensitive to it now. You could feel two sides of the force battling inside him, even as he slept the conflict radiated off of him. The pain still ate at his bones and his lungs were still struggling. Despite warring on him, the force was so strong it kept his body functional, making up for the gaps and the failings of his flesh.
Just like everything else about Anakin Skywalker, this was something unheard of. Even when he wanted to die, even when his body was decaying, the force still pushed him forward.

Sabine Wren x Ezra Bridger
Knightfall
Story Summary: A mysterious new enemy attacks Grand Master Skywalker's Jedi Temple in the dead of night. Faced with overwhelming odds, Jedi Master Ezra Bridger and Jedi Master Sabine Wren must fight against an enemy determined to finish what Emperor Palpatine started so long ago: exterminating the Jedi, once and for all.

"Everything dies. In time, even stars burn out." - Revenge of the Sith novelization, Matthew Stover
The temple was burning.
Jedi Master Ezra Bridger moved with all the speed he could muster, drawing on the Force to aid in his movement. Merely a hundred feet ahead were the stone steps leading into the temple -
His eyes narrowed and a lance of agony pierced his heart.
Bodies lay scattered on the steps. Silhouettes, lit by the inferno engulfing the Temple, were engaged in fierce battle up and down the staircase: some of them were garbed in the traditional Jedi robes, lightsabers ignited in shades of blue, green, yellow, and violet; others wearing the familiar sinister plaster-white of what could only be stormtrooper armor.
As he approached, the rapid staccato of blaster-fire pierced the cool evening air. Some of the remaining Jedi went down.
He called to his wife, Jedi Master Sabine Wren. "Sabine!"
"Yeah, I see it!" He heard swift movement somewhere behind to his left and felt her reassuring presence through the Force.
"You can get there faster and clear the way!" he shouted.
"On it! I'll try to save some for you, old man!" Sabine, wearing her customary Mandalorian armor underneath her Jedi robes, fired her jetpack and raced ahead. A moment later, her lightsaber flared to life, the green-white blade a stark contrast against the fiery red and orange they were racing towards.
Her humor, Ezra noted, was purely reflexive. In the Force, he could feel her inner turmoil and despair barely restrained by sheer force of will.
Be safe, my love, he thought, desperately.
His wife flew through the battle and lopped off a head from one of the stormtroopers. She landed, pivoted, and switched to her patented akimbo lightsaber/blaster style. With grim determination, she set to work, with the other Jedi Knights rallying to her aid.
Her lightsaber blade cleaved through the enemy force, a green blur punctuated by shots from her blaster.
Ezra allowed himself a grim smile.
He needn't have worried. Closing the gap quickly, he ignited his own lightsaber and joined his wife in the fray.
Her name is Sabine Wren. She is a Jedi Master.
In her lifetime, she has been born many titles.
Mandalorian. Rebel. Traitor. Jedi. Mother. Wife.
She is all of these things . . . and more.
Her story is famous among the Jedi younglings. She is fearless, passionate, and forthright. The first Mandalorian Jedi in a thousand generations.
Sabine is not particularly attached to any of these titles, although she is grateful for them; for what they taught her and how they continue to guide her, even now.
Sabine Wren, Jedi Master, values one thing above all: balance. A sense of life and purpose that, for the longest time, had eluded her.
After much hardship she finally found it in the most obvious of places: herself. She didn't need to be a Jedi to matter.
She just needed to be herself.
And that is what she excels at. That is what gives her such fearsome strength. She is the personification of a tempest in battle; her prowess in combat is said to rival that of Grand Master Skywalker himself.
She never gives into the anger; the fear. They are tools, merely to sharpen her edge. Through the Force, she burns so brightly like the starbird of legend that she wears proudly on her armor.
Her name is Sabine Wren. And even in the blackest of nights, she shines like a torch for all to follow.
A flicker in the Force; Sabine angled her lightsaber to swat away another blaster bolt. She crouched and aimed her blaster at a stormtrooper, a dozen steps up towards the entrance.
Pulling the trigger once, twice, three times - all shots found their mark. He fell limp and tumbled down the steps in comical fashion.
"Watch it!" she snapped to a Jedi Knight - a Wookie, still young, named Lowbacca - who was busy with two stormtroopers. A third was taking aim at him from the Temple entrance, a long rifle in his hand.
Lowbacca growled his acknowledgment and snapped his lightsaber, a unique bronze color, to a defensive position. The long rifle fired; the bolt was deflected away by the younger Jedi.
However that left his flank exposed to the other two stormtroopers he was previously engaged with.
Sabine prepared to jetpack straight for those two, only to find a barrage of blaster-fire halt her progress; another squad had appeared from the burning entrance of the Temple and began to batter the remaining Jedi with shots.
Realization hit Sabine like a gut punch.
I'm not going to make it. Lowbacca's going to die.
The stormtroopers, sensing their opportunity, raised their rifles -
And were promptly cut down in a flash of humming blue-white energy.
Fierce exultation filled Sabine's heart.
He was here. Ezra was here, at last.
Her husband sprinted up the steps with speed that shouldn't have been capable of any being, let alone a middle-aged man. But with the Force as his ally, there was little that couldn't be accomplished by Jedi Master Ezra Bridger.
Throwing out his hand, he called his lightsaber back into his hand and pounced towards the squad of stormtroopers at the Temple's entrance.
They saw him too late. His blue-white blade cut through the air, scattering away their fire, moving at a speed that defied logic. Within mere seconds, the squad was cut down.
Ezra pivoted away from them and raced down the steps, picking off the remaining scattered troops.
Sabine trained her blaster on the entrance but no more troopers appeared.
And like that, the battle was over.
She reached out through the Force, looking for any signs of life among the still bodies - but nothing.
Ezra had done what was necessary with his usual efficiency.
Lowbacca lowered his lightsaber and stared at Sabine - and then at Ezra, coming up to check on his wife.
The Jedi Master wasn't even breathing hard.
"Show off," said Sabine to her husband, smiling a little underneath the helmet.
"Hey, you liked it," retorted Ezra. He came close and eyed her. "Are you okay?"
"No injuries. Armor took all the pot shots, as always. You?"
He shook his head. "I'm alright."
They both looked around at the chaos around them. The remaining Jedi Knights were looking at them. Waiting.
Ezra turned to them and said one word. The word they were all dreading.
"Knightfall."
The fire burned behind them, casting shadows on their faces. Through the Force, she felt the grimness of their duty - what needed to be done - and the mourning for what was lost, bursting forth like a fountain in each of them.
But they nodded and ran into the night, one by one. Their duty was paramount. The future of the Jedi Order would be decided on this night, by their actions.
Lowbacca let out a howl of anguish. Ezra clapped him on the shoulder and spoke something in private to the Wookie Jedi.
Sabine felt a chill go down her spine - the wookie's howl sounded so much like the mourning cry of the Loth-wolves back at home.
Almost like an omen . . .
The Wookie Jedi Knight chuffed out a response, nodded once to Sabine, and then ran after his fellow Jedi Knights.
Sabine saw Ezra stare after them. She didn't need the Force to tell what her husband was feeling.
The fallen Jedi on the Temple steps spoke loud enough for her.
After a moment, Ezra turned to her. "Have you heard from Master Skywalker?"
Sabine frowned. "I'm not sure. Scattered reports from the other Jedi; they haven't seen him. He wasn't inside the Temple when the explosion went off."
"I can't sense him either. You?"
Sabine reached out - multiple presences inside the Temple, too numerous to count or identify.
She shook her head. "No, nothing. But there are survivors, I think. Other Jedi, still fighting."
Ezra grimaced. "We'll have to head inside, then." He paused. "Sabine, did you hear from . . . ?"
"Our daughter? Last I heard she was gathering up the younglings into the mess hall."
Aster Bridger-Wren, a Jedi Knight, like her mother and father. Their pride and joy and love.
Still inside the burning Temple.
Ezra asked, "Anything else?"
"No. Comms were jammed shortly after that."
Ezra nodded, but she felt his concern and anxiety double through the Force, thrumming like a taut power cable.
She reached out and grabbed his hand. "Ezra. She's tough. She'll be alright."
Ezra swept a hand at the chaos before them. "This enemy - who are they? Imperials?"
"Can't be. Empire's been dead for decades. This is something new."
She paused before stating, "I think it's the enemy General Organa was warning us about."
Ezra narrowed his eyes at her. "The Imperial remnant hiding in the Unknown Regions? They had this kind of firepower out there this whole time?"
"I don't know, Ezra. It's possible."
Another explosion rocked the Temple and the two Masters were briefly buffeted by wind and debris.
Her husband shook his head. "No time to talk theories. We need to get in there, find Aster and the younglings."
"What's the plan?"
He looked at her and ignited his lightsaber.
She grinned. "Oh, I like this plan."
He snorted. "You always do."
His name is Ezra Bridger. He is a Jedi Master.
A model to the other Jedi, he is considered to perfectly embody the quintessential Jedi essence: kind, compassionate, and diplomatic.
What very few realize is how funny he is; how passionate he can be, just like his wife; and, most importantly, how hopeful he remains on even the bleakest of days.
His love story - and subsequent marriage - with Sabine Wren is the stuff of legend; not just among the Jedi, but the galaxy as a whole. Holo-dramas have told and re-told their story to trillions galaxy-wide, never failing to amuse him (and exasperate his wife).
His proudest achievements are his daughter and marrying Sabine.
Where Master Wren is a storm, he is a gentle wind, swaying the grass fields; where she is a firestorm, he can be the rain; his light is not the burning torch of his wife, but a calm, unwavering candle in the night to guide your way.
His skills in combat are vastly underrated, only due to him preferring a more diplomatic approach to problem solving - but the few who have seen him in action have been awed to silence at his speed and efficiency.
Ezra Bridger is merciful. It is a quality that his wife - and others who admire him - adores.
But he is no push-over. And his mercy has its limits.
Something more eternal, more truthful, and more deeper to the Light Side of the Force exists within the soul of Ezra Bridger.
Because he knows the truth of life; of the light and the dark. He has seen it all in his life.
He knows the fundamental law of nature and lives its creed to the best of his ability everyday: that the dark must always yield to the light.
No matter how small the flame.
The way to the mess hall was choked with fire, smoke, and stormtroopers. Sabine pulled out a re-breather mask from her pouch and handed it to her husband.
"Thanks," he panted. Jedi had techniques for dealing with smoke inhalation, but they could only stretch out air for several extra minutes - and that was if they weren't doing anything strenuous at the same time.
The stormtroopers were handled with little problem by the two Jedi Masters; it was the bodies of fallen Jedi that disturbed them the most. Friends and acquaintances, all of them. Too many to count.
Sabine wondered if this was how her master, Ahsoka Tano, felt during Order 66. Did she see the bodies of her friends and comrades too? She never spoke much about the events of that bloody period of history.
Vaulting over the corpse of a Jedi youngling, Sabine didn't have to wonder why.
They felt the presence of her daughter huddled inside the mess hall with a group of younglings. The two Masters reached out through the Force and let her know that they were coming.
Reaching the door, Ezra said, "Sabine. Watch my back?"
"Always." She ignited her lightsaber and turned around to scan the hallway for any incoming enemy traffic.
He opened the door.
Inside was a mess; benches pushed to the sides of the hall, with the long tables used for dining bunched together in a tight half-circle. And enclosed in that circle . . .
"Aster! All clear!"
His daughter poked her head above the table, along with ten or so Jedi younglings.
"Dad!" She waved a hand at him.
Ezra felt his heart lift with the immense relief at the sight of her uninjured. He ran over and gave a huge bear hug that lifted her off the ground.
Sabine ran behind him and quickly closed the doors and locked them before joining her husband in an embrace of their family.
"I told your father you'd be alright," said Sabine. "Smart of you to barricade yourselves in the mess hall."
"Thanks," said Aster. She was tall for her age, a latent gift from her grandmother, Ursa Wren, who stood at a towering six feet. Her hair was cut short in a bob fashion, similar to her mother but she had inherited her father's dark blue color.
Even now, he smiled faintly at the memory invoked whenever she was within eyesight; she was the spitting image of her mother at that age. Except for the eyes - those she had gotten from him, perpetually piercing with their blue, bright-eyed gaze.
"You're not hurt anywhere?" He searched her all over, with all his senses.
"I'm fine, Dad, really." She paused and said. "There were Jedi Knights outside the door. Did they . . . ?"
Sabine shook her head. Ezra remembered the bodies they stepped over on the way here. "They didn't make it. I'm sorry."
Aster bit her lip and looked down.
Ezra put his hand on her shoulder and said, "Hey. They did their duty. Just like you did yours. Remember."
"Honor what they fought for," she said.
"Right. And we do that by getting you and the younglings out of here."
He looked to his wife. "Hangar bay?"
Sabine nodded. "I know a short-cut. Should be safe. We hid the corvettes pretty well in case of something like this. I doubt the Imperials know about it."
Aster looked at her mother sharply. "Is it really the Empire?"
Ezra shook his head. "I'm not sure. Your mother and I don't think so."
Sabine said, "Well, they fall pretty easily to a well-placed lightsaber."
Aster snorted. "That doesn't narrow down the list of suspects much, Mom."
Sabine shrugged. "Hey, I'm a Jedi Master. Not a detective."
Ezra smiled briefly at his wife before asking, "Have you seen or heard from Master Skywalker, Aster?"
His daughter frowned, thinking for a few moments. Then: "No, I haven't."
Ezra shared a despairing look with Sabine.
"But I saw his astromech droid."
Ezra's eyes widened. "Artoo? Where did you see him?"
One of the Jedi younglings - a small Togruta female - spoke up. "He was being taken by the troopers. They were heading towards the inner defenses."
Ezra felt an icy fist clutch his heart. He looked at Sabine.
"It's bad, isn't it," she said, quietly.
"They have his astromech. Luke trusted Artoo with everything regarding the temple - if the Jedi are to escape, we need those defenses. They're probably trying to get him to turn them off."
She cocked her head at him. "What's the plan, Ezra?"
He smiled sadly at her. "I'm counting on you."
Even under the helmet, he could feel her eyes blazing at him. "Absolutely not. We go together."
"Someone needs to stay with Aster and the younglings to guide them out safely."
Sabine took off her helmet and stepped closer to him; her eyes were swimming in tears. "I am not leaving you here to die some stupid, noble death!"
Ezra gently grabbed her and lead them both away from Aster and the younglings. He could feel the worried eyes of his daughter watching her parents.
"I don't want her to see us fighting. Not at a time like this," he said to her in a low voice.
"The Jedi Order is dying, Ezra. We need everyone to fight back against this shadow enemy - "
"No, we need them!" He waved at Aster and the younglings. "They're the future! They're what we need to save, Sabine."
She shook her head. "Don't ask me to do this. Please, Ezra." Sabine reached out and cupped his face.
It took everything he had to step away. How badly he wanted to stay with her.
Just like before. A long, long time ago . . .
Softly, he gave his wife a kiss. "We had our time. I was happy with you. With Aster. With Hera and Jacen and Zeb and Chopper. And Kanan."
Sabine started to weep.
"It's time to pay it forward, my love. For the future. For Aster."
She looked away from him for a long moment. Then she put on her helmet. Sorrow radiated out from her like a furnace but he felt the iron will of his wife begin assert determination into her being.
She had made her choice.
Once, a long time ago, she had made a wrong choice. And Sabine had vowed never to do so again.
No matter the cost.
"Aster. Gather the younglings. Keep them in a tight formation."
Aster nodded and started issuing instructions. Sabine looked to her husband and said, "Thirty minutes."
Ezra frowned. "What?"
"I'm giving you thirty minutes, Ezra. Then we leave."
"Sabine . . . "
She grabbed him by the tunic. "I don't care, Ezra. The Force can't decide all of it. You owe it to me and your daughter to try."
Ezra blinked and smiled at his wife.
Do or do not . . .
"I promise to try," he replied. "That's the best I can give."
Sabine nodded and let him go. Igniting her lightsaber she went to the door and peered out.
"All clear. Aster, we're heading out."
Aster ignited her own lightsaber - a vivid, pink hue - and led the tightly formed group of younglings out the door. Ezra took up the rear.
Before they went separate ways, Aster gave him a quick hug.
"Is this . . . good-bye?" she asked, voice quivering. His daughter was trying so hard to be brave.
Ezra almost couldn't trust himself to answer.
She would have known if he was lying.
He just squeezed his daughter a little harder in the hug, feeling her; the strength born from him and Sabine, all their knowledge and fears and joys, flowing into her.
"Follow your mother. Remember your training. And trust the Force."
She nodded into her shoulder. "I will, Dad."
He watched them leave, Sabine leading them into a side corridor.
Ezra looked at his wife. Sabine paused and took one last look at him.
He wanted nothing more than to freeze that moment. To savor the image of his wife, beautifully fierce, for an eternity.
A disturbance in the Force -
"Ezra!" shouted Sabine.
He whipped around, igniting his lightsaber in time to parry two shots aimed for his sternum.
Stormtroopers, coming around the bend. They aimed their rifles and started to fire.
He batted away the shots. "Sabine! Go!"
He felt her hesitation . . . and then it was replaced with grim determination. "Thirty minutes, Ezra! Don't be late, old man!"
And then she was gone, quickly ducking into the side corridor.
Ezra huffed out a quick laugh, dodging another blaster bolt. He deflected another one straight back to its shooter.
"Sorry, fellas," he said to the remaining stormtroopers. "Can't be late for this date."
He moved in on them, the Force guiding his hands.
Drawing on the Force, Ezra made the sprint to the Temple's inner defenses in five minutes.
His comm-link chirped as he stood outside the door, reaching out with the Force. Five presences, all filled with malicious intent.
He could also hear the pained squealing of an astromech droid.
Ezra ducked to the side and spoke into his comm-link. "Sabine?"
"Ezra. We've arrived and are powering up the corvette."
He breathed out a sigh of relief. "Any issues?"
"Not really. Diced up some stormtroopers on the way. Aster did this neat flip move that I think Master Skywalker taught her."
Exasperated, Ezra heard his daughter groan. "Mom."
"It was very fancy. I think I saw you do something like that, when you were younger. Way younger."
Ezra growled, "I'm not that old, Sabine. You're older than me, you know."
"He's a charmer, your dad. How are things on your end?"
Ezra readied his lightsaber. "About to get this party started."
He paused and said, "Wish you were here."
Sabine replied, "Well, you can tell me all about it when you get back in twenty minutes."
Ezra smiled, despite the situation. Sabine always knew what to say. "I'll do that."
"Yeah. You will. Or I'm coming for you." The call ended.
He readied a breath and stepped inside.
Despite the simple name, the Temple's inner defenses were a complex network of fail-safes and redundancies; all tied to a single, massive computer core that oversaw a whole network of protocols that kept the Temple running smoothly.
In case of an attack, the whole network was to run automatically without need of supervision; an alarm was to be sounded for evacuation and a recorded message from a selected Jedi Master broadcasted to the other temples to warn them.
In addition, multiple turbo-lasers were embedded in the grounds all surrounding the Temple. If there was a carrier waiting in orbit - as Ezra suspected there was - the turbo-lasers would fire unceasingly, giving fleeing Jedi a cover to escape.
It was an ingenious system devised by Master Skywalker and the New Republic's best and brightest - but it failed to account for one possibility.
Sabotage from within.
As Ezra stepped inside, the first thing he noted was the slashes all over the consoles. Sloppy, powerful, angry strokes - but not made from any metal blade.
Made from a lightsaber. The Force radiated with the rage and power from within the room; an echo of whoever had done this damage.
I've got a bad feeling about this, he thought. Ezra hadn't the slightest clue who from Luke's students would be capable of such a betrayal.
The second thing he noted was the squad of troopers huddled around a familiar astromech - R2-D2, Master Skywalker's trusted droid. He lay on his back as the troopers took turns poking stun batons at him.
"Stupid droid," one of them muttered. "Have you ever met one so annoying? They usually cave after the first shock."
Ezra decided that stormtrooper would be the first. Igniting his lightsaber, he said, "Hey, why don't you pick on someone your own size?"
They all whirled around. "Jedi!" screeched one of them.
Ezra pounced. There was a random array of shots, easily blocked by him.
Five swift slashes later, he was alone in the room with Artoo.
"Hey, buddy," he said, picking up the droid. The astromech warbled a relieved response to him.
"Have you heard from Master Luke, Artoo?"
Artoo replied in the negative. He sighed. "Figures."
Artoo beeped worriedly. "I'm sure he's alright. Anyway, can you get these consoles up and running? We need to get the defenses operational before - "
A sudden flicker in the Force was his only warning. Ezra dove to the side as an explosion shook the room. Bits of ceiling and rubble sprayed over him.
Shaking himself at this daze, Ezra looked up and saw the stars.
And then he saw the stars blotted out by something massive. Hovering over the planet.
Artoo had already jacked himself into the console. Within seconds the consoles came to life - and beeped an alert at him.
"A little late, but thanks. Yeah, I see it Artoo." He whistled. "That's a huge ship."
Artoo beeped a statement at him.
"The Supremacy? Sounds like someone important is visiting us tonight."
"Shall I tell you his name?" asked a menacing voice.
Ezra ignited his lightsaber and looked around to the source. A human man stood there, mid-30s with brown hair and a permanently pinched expression, garbed in what looked like an Imperial officer's uniform.
Only it was all in black. Not the usual monotone gray.
He held a blaster pistol in his hand, aimed at Ezra.
"Artoo, get those defenses up and running now."
More footsteps - hard and orderly; a marching formation.
Twelve more stormtroopers filed into the room and formed a semi-circle around Ezra and Artoo. They raised their rifles.
Ezra forced calm into his voice. "I know you're all scared. I'm a Jedi; I can sense these things."
The officer sneered at him. "We've killed plenty of your Jedi tonight."
Ezra cocked his head at him. "Not me, though. I'm still alive. I'm sure some of you are wondering why that it is."
He lifted his lightsaber in a defensive salute. "If you want to leave, you may do so."
The officer laughed. "No one will be leaving, Jedi. Except for you, in a body bag."
"So, what are you? Empire? Or something else?" Ezra couldn't help but be curious.
At the word Empire, the officer seemed insulted. Ezra could practically feel the man boil over with indignant rage.
"Do not," he said through gritted teeth, spittle flying from his mouth, "compare us to that bureaucratic, bloated waste of an Empire!"
Ezra raised his eyebrows in astonishment at the man's reaction. "My apologies."
"We are so much more! Led by our Supreme Leader Snoke, we will create order! We will enforce peace! No more New Republic, no more Empire - just an Eternal Order, the first of it's kind in the galaxy!"
He jabbed the blaster pistol at Ezra in a frenzy. "We are the First Order, Jedi!"
"First, huh." Beside him, Artoo beeped softly.
All finished. He nodded at the astromech droid.
All at once, the ground shook as the turbo-lasers, finally re-activated, began to blast away at the super-carrier in orbit above the Temple.
The First Order officer blinked in surprise. "What . . . ?"
Ezra pulled him forward with the Force, impaling him on the lightsaber blade.
"Ggghrk," said the First Order officer. Ezra leaned in close to whisper in the idiot's ear.
"The Jedi Order will make sure that your 'First Order' will also be the last. You should have learned something from your predecessors - never let a Jedi talk."
The fury erupted in the man's eyes - and then faded all at once. He was dead.
Ezra tossed him off the blade and waved to the stormtroopers. "Next?"
They opened fire.
Letting the Force guide his hands into a defensive pattern, Ezra shouted to the astromech droid. "Artoo! You're all good, buddy. Go find Master Skywalker!"
Artoo squealed in protest.
"I'll be fine. Gotta stay here to make sure they don't shut down the defenses again." His blade hummed angrily, swatting away more blaster-fire. "Go, go!"
The droid sighed in resignation and activated his boosters, flying through a hole in the ceiling.
And then it was just Ezra. Alone.
Deflecting more shots, he spoke into his comm-link to say good-bye to his wife . . . only for him to realize that it had been damaged in the explosion from earlier.
So that was it, then.
No more good-byes.
Ezra Bridger drew the Force into him, letting him fill his entire being until he could feel his cells glowing with its power.
And then he went to work. Moving with impossible speed, cutting down the stormtroopers; dodging, weaving, parrying with unerring accuracy and grace.
The twelve that entered didn't stand a chance.
But more came. Filing through, blasters firing away.
And then more. And more. And more.
And more. An unending, unceasing flood of white armor and red blaster-fire.
Ezra Bridger, Jedi Master, knew the math was not coming in his favor for this battle.
But he could not let them turn off the defenses.
And so he fought. Drawing more and more of the Force into himself.
It was dangerous, he knew. That much Force usage would burn out even an experienced Jedi in minutes.
He was burning himself out.
Ezra wondered if he could count how much time he had left in heartbeats. His hands weaved the lightsaber, blocking three shots -
A fourth got through. His leg.
He drew more of the Force in, walling away the pain. He pivoted, sliced through the abdomen of another stormtrooper -
His shoulder erupted in pain. Ezra ignored it.
And then his abdomen, left side.
He was fading. Somehow, barely conscious, he was still moving. Still fighting. His body moved on instinct, despite the increasing toll of his mounting injuries.
F a d i n g . . .
F a d i n g . . .
Memories.
Meeting Sabine for the first time. How intimidating she was; how fierce she looked in the Mandalorian armor. How beautiful she looked under the helmet. Feelings that had never gone away - that he never expected to be reciprocated until she found him again.
Kanan. His first lessons as a Padawan, learning how to wield the lightsaber, how to open himself to the Force; but, above all, how to be a good person.
Hera. The Twi'lek who was like a mother to him. The laughter they shared, how she protected and taught him. He remembered the tears she wept after his long voyage home from Peridea, sweeping him into the deepest, warmest hug he could ever have imagined after such a lonely exile.
Zeb. Cantankerous, reliable Zeb. The joy and deep soul underneath that gruff exterior.
Chopper. Foul-mouthed but ever dependable. The fun times they had getting out of sticky situations with the Empire.
Ahsoka. Always looking forward, always wise, always a mentor whenever he needed. She was the one to knight him. Helped mold him into the Jedi Master he was today.
More memories. More fuel to keep him going. Feeding the fire that was going out.
Sabine finding him again on Peridea. How easily they slipped into old habits, hiding away what had changed.
How her betrayal had shaken him - but they made it through, together. Forged a bond that could never be broken.
Meeting Jacen for the first time. Feeling his heart crack at how much like Kanan he looked.
Ending Thrawn's reign of terror against the galaxy. Saving the New Republic.
Living with Sabine. Falling in love all over again.
The marriage. Their vows. Waking up to Sabine, sleeping next to him, softly snoring. Feeling the weight of her, how she felt, the strength of her heartbeat.
The birth of their daughter, Aster.
Seeing her first steps, her first words; seeing her enter the Academy for the first time.
So many memories.
He fed them all into the fire.
The blaster-fire stopped at some point.
Ezra stood, just barely. He couldn't feel much at that point. His lightsaber held just aloft in a position that required the least amount of energy to hold.
Around him lay the crumpled bodies of at least a hundred stormtroopers. All dead.
A voice crawled into his head. Through the Force.
You have fought well, Master Jedi.
It sounded like . . . the Grand Inquisitor? No, it couldn't be. Or maybe it was Vader?
Or . . . Thrawn?
"Who is this?" he muttered.
The death of your Order, the voice said. The beginning of mine.
Somewhere in the haze of his mind, he remembered. "Snoke," he said.
Remember it well. For the short time you have left.
Three figures walked through the entrance, wearing scarlet armor. They moved through the sea of dead bodies like red wraiths.
In their hands, wicked blades with purple electricity surging through them.
Ezra had heard of them from the days of the Empire from Luke.
Praetorian guards.
Die well, Master Bridger, said the voice.
Still fading. Just embers left now.
Ezra, still in pain, lifted his lightsaber one last time.
Sabine looked desperately at the chronometer. Ezra hadn't arrived yet.
They were out of time.
"Anything?" she asked Aster.
Aster, tears streaming down her face, shook her head. "I can't raise him. Comms must be down."
Another explosion rocked the hangar bay.
"Not much of the turbo-lasers left," she said. "The massive ship above is bombing what's left."
She looked at her mother. "We have to get Dad. Let me get him."
I'm counting on you.
Sabine grabbed her daughter and sat her back down. "Tell the younglings to strap in and prepare for take-off."
A part of her was screaming, dying at what she was about to do.
"What? No - no, we're not leaving him, right? Mom!" Aster looked at her mother, pleading.
Sabine didn't listen. She keyed the control for the hangar bay doors and pushed the engines to maximum.
"Mom!" Aster yelled at her. "You're leaving him! You're leaving Dad behind!"
She glanced out the view-port to the burning Temple below.
Good-bye, my love.
Sabine knew, deep down, that she would always regret not saying it to him for the rest of her life.
She pushed the throttle and aimed for the stars.
The battle didn't last long.
It didn't need to. Ezra had done what was needed.
The praetorian guards pulled their blades from him. He fell over, watching the blood seep onto the stone floor.
One of them kicked him onto his back.
Through the crack in the ceiling, he saw a frigate rocket by, weaving through the laser bombardment, flying towards freedom.
He knew his wife and daughter were on there. Safe.
I'm sorry, Sabine. Going to be late after all. Hope you don't mind waiting a bit.
One of the Praetorian guards raised his blade for a final blow.
Ezra reached out one last time into the Force. Blowing life into the embers that were left.
With a strained shout, he threw his hands towards that cracked Temple ceiling. It shifted and groaned -
And then collapsed. Tons of rubble falling, caving in on the room.
The Praetorian guards screamed but had nowhere to run.
Ezra Bridger smiled, thinking of his watchtower - how the sun hit the capital city at the right angle making it sparkle in the early evening; how holding Sabine's hand felt on a warm, breezy day, just sitting in the grass fields, watching the Loth-cats scurry about . . .
He was still thinking about Sabine when he died.
FAR, FAR AWAY (Jacen)
Jacen Syndulla, Jedi in training, raced onto the docking ramp of the Ghost. His mother, Hera, is already preparing to lift-off from the Ghost cockpit.
"Jacen! Are we all set?"
He mentally checked the list one more time. "Yeah! That's everything!"
The broadcast from Master Skywalker's Temple had hit them hard - but the plan was already in motion. The Jedi were on the move.
Knightfall. Knightfall. Knightfall.
"Jacen, get up here! Gonna need you for navigation!"
"Alright, Mom," Jason shouted back. He began to close the ramp -
He paused. Two figures, shrouded in ghostly blue and somewhat translucent in Jedi robes, stood at the end.
One of them lowered his hood. Jacen sucked in a breath; it was a face he had only seen in holos and photographs.
"Dad?" he whispered.
His father, Kanan Jarrus, waved at him. He smiled sadly and turned to the other figure who also lowered his hood.
Jacen took a step back. "No, it can't be."
It was Ezra. He looked pointedly at Jacen and the younger Jedi could hear him in his thoughts.
It's up to you now, Jacen. You're the future.
Jacen began to cry. "Ezra, wait - "
I'll be seeing you around, kid. Don't worry. And look after your mom.
And then he was gone. They were both gone.
The docking ramp closed.
"Jacen! Where are you?"
After a couple minutes, Hera let Chopper doing the flying. She found her son, huddled at the docking entrance, still crying.
FAR, FAR AWAY (Ahsoka)
Ahsoka Tano turned to Huyang and asked, "Are the coordinates set?"
"Yes, Lady Tano. I expect we'll be the first to arrive."
They were sitting in the cockpit of her trusty T-6, waiting in deep space.
"Good. Any news from General Organa?"
"She'll be meeting us there, along with the other Resistance leaders," replied the droid.
The Jedi Master sighed and began to feel her age. "I can't believe it's happening again, Huyang."
The droid concurred with a sad tone. "Yes. Twice in my lifetime."
"And mine, too." Ahsoka had felt the disturbance in the Force, shortly followed by the broadcast from Luke's Temple.
Knightfall. Knightfall. Knightfall.
She drove a fist into her leg. "We're ready this time, though. We saw this coming."
Huyang replied, "The enemy is far more devious and quicker than we imagined. But, yes, we do have a plan ready for this."
Ahsoka opened her mouth to reply . . . only to feel a wave of sadness and grief wash over her. It was so intense and immediate that she doubled over in her pilot's chair.
I'm leaving it to you, Ahsoka. Thank you for everything.
"Ezra," she whispered. "No, oh no. Ezra."
Huyang, alarmed, asked, "Lady Tano? What is the matter?"
Ahsoka didn't reply. She was too busy crying over her lost friend.
FAR, FAR AWAY (Sabine)
Aster felt Ezra's passing before she did.
Sabine watched her daughter whisper, "Dad?", shudder once and then begin to sob, unrestrained.
And then - an invisible hand stroked her hair.
Ezra's voice, in her head.
Sorry, Sabine. You'll have to wait a little longer. I love you.
She reached out to grab the hand, but it was already gone.
And that's when she knew, more than anything else she had seen in the burning Jedi Temple, that her world had ended.
The frigate lay hidden in an asteroid field.
They had been pursued, as she expected. Sabine had used up every piloting trick she knew or heard about to escape the enemy.
Finally, they had stopped in an asteroid field to take stock and rest. Everything but the life support was turned off, in the event their pursuers came sniffing around.
And all that was left to do was . . . wait. Until they heard from Ahsoka.
Sabine sat in the darkness, feeling almost grateful for it.
Ezra was dead.
She kept repeating it in her head. It was a fact but that didn't make it feel any more true.
Ezra was dead. Ezra was dead.
"Mom?"
She looked over to Aster - and realized they weren't alone.
The younglings had all come to the bridge. They were scared, even if they were doing a good job of hiding it.
"Yes, Aster?"
"I'm - I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier. About leaving Dad behind."
Sabine shook her head. "It's the truth. That's what I did."
Aster reached out and took her hand. Sabine could feel Ezra's strength in those hands.
"It's what he wanted. He wanted to make sure we were safe."
The words tumbled into the hollow space in her heart where Ezra used to be. They didn't make much of a difference in how she felt, but she forced herself to nod.
"Master Wren?" asked one of the younglings.
Sabine said, "Yes?"
"Can you tell us a story? To pass the time?"
Sabine almost laughed. "A story?"
What use are stories at a time like this?
Aster replied, "I think that's a good idea. Mom?"
Sabine sighed - and then heard Ezra's voice.
Tell them a story, Sabine. You've got plenty of them.
She frowned. Why? What good would it do?
Well, it'll stop you from moping around, for one.
Oh, funny.
You've got to give them hope, Sabine.
Even when I don't have any for myself? she asked.
Especially, then, replied Ezra's voice.
She sighed. I miss you so much, already, goofball.
"Alright, gather around. I've got one. About going into another galaxy."
The younglings eyes widened and they huddled into a circle around her.
There was a small yelp. "Ouch."
Sabine winced. "Yeah, okay. Probably need some light, then. Can't use technology though . . ."
Aster said, "Hang on, I've got a lighter here."
She flicked it on. "Is that from Dad?" asked Sabine, amazed.
Her daughter's eyes opened in realization. "Yeah, for my birthday. He said they used to use this way back in the early, early days before the Republic. It's an antique."
Sabine watched the small flame, dancing defiantly in the dark. It lit the faces of all that were present -
And, for a small instant, she saw Ezra - smiling, huddled in the circle, ready to hear one of her stories.
I'm counting on you, Sabine.
She smiled, feeling the tears coming on. Sabine bowed her head for a moment, cleared her throat - and started telling the story.
"A long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far away . . . "
"The dark is generous and it is patient and it always wins – but in the heart of its strength lies its weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back. Love is more than a candle. Love can ignite the stars." - Revenge of the Sith novel, Matthew Stover

In a galaxy where stars painted the canvas of the cosmos with their ethereal glow, and planets whispered secrets in the vast expanse, I found myself entangled in a love as powerful and tumultuous as a solar storm. My heart danced to the rhythm of a forbidden melody, for I had fallen deeply in love with Anakin.
Anakin, a tempest of emotions and conflict, held within him a tempestuous past and an uncertain future. Our love was a fragile haven in the midst of his struggles, but sometimes even the strongest stars could waver and dim. One evening, under the luminous glow of a distant nebula, our love faced a test.
He had been grappling with the weight of his destiny, and the universe had pressed heavily on his shoulders. The words that left his lips were not of the Anakin I knew - harsh, cutting, and laden with frustration. It felt like a blaster bolt to my heart, leaving a wound that no bacta could heal.
"I can't believe you're acting like this," he lashed out, his eyes reflecting the turmoil within. "Can't you see what's at stake?"
My eyes stung with unshed tears, and my voice wavered, "Anakin, I'm here for you. I love you."
But love was a double-edged lightsaber, and its wounds were as searing as a Sith's anger. That night, I sought refuge in the comforting embrace of my pillow, denying Anakin the solace he usually found in our shared cuddles. He lay on the other side of the bed, his sorrow palpable, his heart reaching out for the warmth he had pushed away.
In the darkness, the galaxy witnessed a dance of hurt and longing. "YN," he whispered, the agony evident in his voice. "Please, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it."
I clung to the pillow, a barrier to my breaking heart, but his words began to chip away at my resolve. "I just need time," I murmured, my voice small.
Minutes stretched like eternity until Anakin's hesitant hand brushed against mine. "I love you," he confessed, his voice a plea for forgiveness.
Tears fell, mingling with stardust on my cheeks. "I love you too, Anakin. But I can't bear to be pushed away."
Slowly, the distance between us melted, a galaxy collapsing and rebirthing anew. He pulled me close, wrapping his arms around me as if afraid I might slip away like a shooting star. "I'm so sorry," he whispered, his breath tickling my ear. "I need you more than I can say."
In that tender moment, the hurt transformed into healing. Love, resilient and compassionate, triumphed over the shadows that threatened to engulf us. We found solace in each other, two souls destined to navigate the tumultuous seas of fate together. And under the starlit tapestry of the galaxy, we let love's light guide us through the darkest of nights.

Imagine “Star Wars: “special editions” songs V.
• When We Were Young.
Imagine you are friends with Anakin Skywalker since childhood. However, once you two are now grown ups following different paths, a new sentiment arises. Part I

Warnings 2: alternative universe; no younglings are killed here.
Warnings 3: There’s gonna be a part 2 haha
Warnings 4: based on Adele’s two albums “21” & “25”
No minors.
***
Preface.
It is dark. Only stars and the bright two moons guide you in this deadly silence as you walk in a fast pace. Your cape hides your features, part of you accuses you of madness for letting your heart burst like this.
This is the end.
You hear steps. Quickly, you try to run. But you are stolen away and what happens next is a struggle to survival.
Funny, you’ve never thought a group of rebels would do this to you. But here you are. Do they know you at all?
“You can take my name, but you shall never have my heart”, you cry out.
You are under torture. For him, whoever he is now, you’d gladly embrace death. But this is too dramatic. Suddenly it gets cold. One metallic breathing gives away his presence.
There is someone over you, trying to steal away your breath, clearly ignoring what’s to come. You smirk.
“Where I go, he goes”, you gasp. “What I see, he sees. I know I’ll never be me without his security of his loving arms keeping me from harm.”
“…And we’ll stand. As I vowed you that day, Y/Nickname”, his voice comes softly in the back of your mind, but only you can hear.
That is how he saves you. That is how the distressed damsel is back to where she belongs: to the arms of the Black Jedi, now known as Lord Vader.
So the sky falls.
***
How it starts… (I)
You are a child, daughter of a powerful nobleman of Tatooine. But because you are a girl, you are despised by the family. Despite the rejection that would grow into you as a fear of abandonment, you take the opportunity to live life as you wish.
Hence why you come to the part of Tatooine where it’s a complete mess, where the elite rarely—if never—dares to go. This is the context that draws you to Anakin.
A poor boy who is the same age as you and, like you, are enslaved to other people’s way of living—despite the evident differences in your status. Regardless, you bump into him.
“I’m sorry!”, you say louder than you wish. “I-I didn’t mean to.”
The boy of sandy hair and tempest blue eyes stares at you with tilted head wondering why a girl in fanciful robes would be so easily startled and not acting in a self entitlement manner.
Clearly you think you are disguising, Anakin thinks to himself, rather amused.
“No need to apologize, it’s all good”, he smirks at you. “I’m Anakin Skywalker, by the way. Who are you again?”
You are presenting yourself when an older male dressed in grey robes comes at you, eyebrows lightly furrowed.
“Anakin”, he says to the boy you’ve just met. “Who is this young woman you’ve been talking to?”
You can tell he’s been disturbed by this so you are about to excuse yourself—you know when you are being a burden and, frankly, you barely wish to be somebody else’s.
As if capturing your thoughts, the older male softens to you. But before he speaks, Anakin, impulsive as he naturally inclines himself to, promptly holds your hand and says:
“You are not going anywhere, Y/N. You are my friend.”
You giggle softly, albeit embarrassed.
“Why, thank you, Mr Anakin. You are most kind.”
The other one is disconcerted about perceiving young Anakin’s inclination to possessiveness.
“I am rarely kind”, Anakin keeps the conversation, taking the opportunity to show himself. “Which means how I like you.”
You blush lightly. It’s when the older male chuckles and says:
“Well, Anakin. Arrogance is not the best way to welcome new friends”, towards you he speaks now. “Young lady, may I know by what name do you attend to and where are your parents?”
“The name is Y/N Y/LN”, you tell them nonchalantly. “My parents are too occupied to be reminded of my existence. Please sire, I ask you not to report me to them.”
“Master Qui Gon Jinn”, Anakin suddenly comes up with this new idea. “Why don’t you bring her with us? We could train together. I’m going to be a Jedi, you know.”
Delicately, the said Jedi Master explains to Anakin you have no Force: therefore you cannot join them. You don’t understand very well what’s been said, but you appreciate nonetheless the warm attitude Anakin’s been having towards you.
If, however, Master Qui-Gon Jinn attempts to prevent a deeper bond to form, his efforts have no avail. Soon, you have a better reason to make longer the escapes from that prison of yours.
Until the day Anakin is ready to leave, you two architect a plan for you to secretly join him. It’s when Obi-Wan discovers and tells Qui-Gon about it.
But the end is far from catastrophic, as you and him fear. You are now brought under the cares of Padmé Amidala, future queen of Naboo.
***
Late teenager days.
Next time you see him, you are both leaving adolescence. It’s been five years since he last saw you in Naboo, serving as the Queen’s lady-in-waiting.
Now you and Anakin are eighteen years old: a handsome man he’d turn out to be as you became a full developed beautiful woman. He is now a Knight Jedi, ready to prepare his path to become the next Master of the Jedi Order and you, the confident friend to the Queen.
For a long while you’ve been committed writing to each other, very rarely coming to see one another. But now Anakin is about to see you again for he’s been assigned to guard Queen Padmé.
And when you two finally meet…in a rainy day, to be precise, you are dressed in silvery robes, a heavy make up hiding the delicacy of your features, praying to be as discreet as possible. But you are not counting with the handsome man Anakin is now.
Your best friend, responsible for your liberty, smiles widely when acknowledging you. Indeed, how could Anakin forget you? He’s been dreaming of your sweet words, remembering when you two bonded as children…
No, Anakin kept the memories of you very alive. And now he takes delight in seeing you, although he is taken aback by your handsomeness. Noticing his admiration, though, Obi-Wan clears his throat.
“Now, now, Anakin. We are discussing here the protocols the Senate delegated us to the said mission concerning Naboo…”
Anakin has the decency to blush. But whilst his attention has diverted to the seriousness of the subject, you, however, seem to get lost at the man your childhood friend has grown into.
You cannot look away from his sandy hair, the tempest that forms in his blue eyes matching the bluntness in his speech, which makes your lips twitch in a light smirk…
Here he is, the Anakin I’ve always known…
You lower your gaze for just as this thought runs to your mind he seems to have captured it, so you spot some amusement behind his eyes that earns you some light blush.
“Very well”, you hear the Queen’s voice, thus breaking the spell his presence had put in you. “We welcome you in our retinue young Skywalker. We are very pleased to see you amongst us once again.”
“It is a pleasure as always, Your Grace”, says Anakin, gallantly—or arrogantly, judging by how some other ladies are rolling their eyes. “Duty always calls and I shall not disappoint my queen.”
“Anakin is too good with words, if you ask me”, so snorts Obi-Wan lightly. “Be careful, will you? By that I mean to say you should be mindful of your duties…”
You try to hold back your giggle. Anakin sees you and, already seeing what’s the reason for it, he cannot help another smirk. However, no one seems to notice this subtle admiration between one another—except perhaps Obi-Wan, who seems to choose to ignore what’s happening right under his nose.
This is how it begins. This is how the spark is ignited.
**
A few days later, he is right behind you—not only following like a puppet dog, but if he can be excused, protecting the Queen like he vowed to. Except his eyes are never far from yours.
“Tell me, Anakin. Do you dance?”, Queen Amidala asks in a tone that makes no effort in hiding her amusement.
“Uh?”, he is distracted by your beauty. Anakin soon clears his throat. “I am a warrior, a peacekeeper. Not the best dancer, my lady.”
But the queen sees what you and Anakin might not promptly see it. She side smirks, pretending to occupy herself with sewing when she says:
“Why, if I were you, I would dance to keep peace. Do you know Lady Y/N is my best lady where dance is concerned?”
Anakin’s mind is finally captured by her web. As your eyes go wide and a blush colors your cheeks, his eyes glint with amusement.
“I do not. In this case…”
“I give you my permission, yes. Don’t be shy, Lady Y/N. Go on.”
You blush violently, much to Anakin’s delight. As he takes hold of your hand, he is surprised to find you cold.
“Are you well, Y/Nickname? What’s the need of being shy to me?”
As you two begin to dance, it feels as if there’s only you in the room.
“It’s not about that, Ani. I don’t like enjoying everyone’s attention…” as you raise your eyes, you are surprised to find those blue irises staring at you. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I was merely noticing… You are a woman, Y/N.”
You chuckle lightly.
“Haven’t you noticed that before?”
Anakin smiles and you feel like the sun is shining over you. He can hear you thought, so as much as this pleases him, it makes him blush. He diverts the gaze away, only for one moment.
“Let me protest that. This isn’t what I’ve meant to say.”
“Then what is?”, you giggle lightly as you look at his eyes, your bodies seemingly following the rhythm of the music without your knowledge.
“That you’ve grown fine as wine”, says he smugly, very satisfied for seeing you blush.
*
Today you both are in the gardens. He’s taken you to stroll all the whilst Senator Clovis is openly courting the Queen. As her favoured lady, you stand safely behind her, although she is far ahead than you and Anakin.
His arm is now tangled against yours, enjoying close proximity. You’ve been spending these joyful days speaking nonsenses, sharing jokes and perhaps something else.
Anakin can read your thoughts: he knows the depth of your feelings for him; the desires that rise without your acknowledgment, the struggle with reason that uprises your heart.
He feels the same. But somehow… He has no idea how to profess it.
Yet.
“What’s like to be a Jedi?”, you ask him, unaware of how he’s been quietly studying you. “Must be busy for I haven’t received a letter of yours for a good while.”
Smiling at your tone of accusation, Anakin says:
“Well, it does keep me occupied. I’ve been under heavy training and, if you ask my opinion, been looking forward to get a proper mission.”
You sigh, indicating your concern.
“Ani…”
“What? I was born for this and you know it”, he gently grips your arm. “There is no need to worry over me, angel. I know what I am capable of.”
You smile, sensing he might be looking for some praise. As your eyes meet again, you say:
“I know that. I’ve never had any question of your abilities, Anakin. But excuse me for worrying about my best friend”, and it’s when you whisper. “I don’t want to lose you.”
“You are not going to lose me, Y/Nickname”, he whispers softly, taking your hand to his lips as he stops you so you can see he means it. In truth Anakin knows you mirror each other’s feeling. But speaking those words to you only make it better. “This I promise.”
The moment you smile, Anakin knows. And maybe the time to admit the obviousness has finally come, but not yet. The Queen summons you and Anakin. A grave look is set on her face so this means you two must set apart.
For now…
***
• “Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized”•
It’s been two years before you see him again. It drives you mad: to realize you are getting older and with such little time to see him.
You attempt to escape the questions posed by the Queen, now Senator; but there is an inevitable sadness as everytime you see husband and wife together.
You start to wonder whether wouldn’t be better to tell Anakin how you felt, for now time seems to steal him away from you.
However… Time is not that cruel to you. So before you notice, he comes to find you. Like he usually does.
“I knew I would find you here at the gardens”, his voice comes like a whisper to you, husky yes, but softly too.
When you turn abruptly, you find a matured man right before your eyes. Anakin Skywalker stands dressed in black robes, posing that same old smug pose but with a sweet smile and caring blue eyes that make you melt.
“Ani…” Your lips spread and before you know, you are running to his arms.
This time he is not letting go of you. To your surprise, as his arms involve you in a hug, his lips welcome you and…you don’t hesitate in kissing him in return.
It’s sloppy at first, marked by surprised. But as one adjusts to the other, it’s perfectly synced. Your tongue is subdued by his and you take delight at the moment.
The moment where you and Anakin are no more friends, but something far better than this. It continues so as his kiss is so alluring, as if he’s seeking the intensity there is in you. And you correspond gladly, giving him the intensity there has always been caged.
Your hands hesitantly move to his curls—they are now dropping over his shoulder, wrapping them around your finger as you share a passionate kiss. And this kiss awakes something in you, but there’s no time to discover it for he parts it from you—much to your dismay.
Seeing your emotions so clearly stamped in your face, Anakin smiles—specially aware of your sentiments.
“I had to take a breath, I had to contemplate you for a moment”, he explains to you, hands cupping your cheeks. “I missed you, Y/N.”
You lean against him, so pleased for that moment finally have happened.
“And I, you”, you rest your forehead against his, your body nearly locked to his. “What took you so long?”
It’s when you sense his heavy sigh, the subtle change in his demeanor: Anakin tries to keep it away from you, he has no wishes in updating you about politics.
The reason why both of you avoid such topic is mostly because that’s what you live everyday, so you need a break. Today is not different. But how can he avoid it?
As you hesitantly step back due to his silence, you suddenly become aware of the shadow that’s been cast at him. Very gently you place your hands to cup his face, stroking his scar as he leans against you, eyes closed.
“You know you can trust in me, Ani”, you encourage him softly. “There’s no need to keep it away from me.”
“I do not wish to have you involved in this”, says he, conflicted.
It heavies your heart to see the eclipse occurring right under your eyes. You do your best to deal with it, though. Lifting his chin, you run a hand over his hair all the whilst leaning the other over his chest. You wait until his blue eyes find your y/c ones.
“I want to be involved in this. This is not a burden for you to carry yourself, my darling.”
“I don’t know what to do.” He mumbles, still hesitant about sharing whatever troubles him with you.
“Follow your heart”, you tell him. “I’ll be here.”
As if to reassure him, you smile, aware of the sudden meaning your next words might carry:
“I’ll be here for you. No matter what.”
And that is how you seal your fate…

The Aching Rift: Anakin Skywalker x Reader
Anakin Skywalker stood on the precipice of darkness, torn between his duty to the Jedi Order and his intense love for you. Your love was a forbidden flame, concealed beneath layers of secrecy and danger.
Anakin, once a hopeful and spirited hero, now battled a tempest of conflicting emotions. The burden of prophecy weighed heavily on his shoulders, and the ominous whispers of the dark side echoed in his mind. But even amidst the chaos, your presence provided solace—a beacon of light in the encroaching shadows.
The love bloomed discreetly, like a fragile flower in the midst of a war-torn galaxy. In stolen moments, you and Anakin would meet in hidden corners, hearts intertwined in a bond that defied the laws of the Jedi Order. The stolen conversations and stolen kisses carried a bittersweet intensity, knowing that the very essence of their love could spell their downfall.
As the Clone Wars raged on, Anakin's inner turmoil grew. The visions of his beloved mother's death haunted him, filling him with a relentless desire to protect those he cared for. And in you, he found someone worth fighting for, someone worth crossing the line for.
But the dark side, like a seductive siren, called out to Anakin, promising power and control. You watched with a heavy heart as your love began to slip away, consumed by a growing anger and frustration. You pleaded with him, reminding him of the Jedi way, of the love they had nurtured in secret. But the allure of the dark side proved too strong, and Anakin's resolve began to crumble.
In a cataclysmic clash, you and Anakin faced each other on opposing sides. The Jedi and the Sith, once intertwined in love, now faced each other as adversaries. Your heart shattered as you witnessed the transformation of the man you loved into Darth Vader, a symbol of fear and destruction.
The Battle of Mustafar marked the final descent into darkness. Anakin, now consumed by the power of the Sith, lashed out with anger and brutality. You, battered and broken, fought with every ounce of your strength, hoping to save the man you once knew. But destiny had already been written, and their love was crushed under the weight of betrayal and despair.
In the aftermath of the battle, you were left alone, heart aching with a grief that consumed you. Anakin's fall had plunged the galaxy into darkness, and you wandered through the ruins of your love, haunted by memories of what once was.
Years passed, and you carried the weight of your love's demise, forever haunted by the face of Darth Vader. The galaxy mourned the loss of Anakin Skywalker, while you mourned the loss of the love you shared—a love that was drowned in the depths of darkness.
Yet, amidst the heartbreak, a faint glimmer of hope remained. You vowed to honor the memory of the man you loved, to carry his essence within you and fight for the light he once embodied. And so, with a heavy heart, you pressed forward, a broken soul in a galaxy forever scarred by the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker.

{this is a joint post written by Fane and Keni's mun. Finding Pe-Tyr, part I.}
She can almost feel his antipathy radiating off him like winter's chill. At the same time she understands that it is perhaps her own disquiet that provides what she sees as motivation for that sigh. The ghost of admonishment silent on his lips that does not come to fruition, and so just this once she affords him the courtesy of not lashing out. "I…I do not know where such places could be. What I fear is that the lower one goes into the city, the more terrible and varied the dangers. He could be hurt, or worse. But I need to find him before they mobilise Sentinels for a search. How do you propose getting those records without leaving one of our own?" He shifts, then rises to his feet and offers her an open hand. He is not particularly chivalrous, and he knows she is perfectly capable of getting up on her own, but neither is he discourteous. "I think it's a mistake to assume the worst has happened. We should remain calm," he advises. "You know Pe-Tyr better even than his own instructors. If he were in need of help, how likely is it he would really choose not to reach out to you for it?" He takes her question into thoughtful consideration for a long moment. "A favored instructor… perhaps even a knight? Someone who wouldn't fear for Pe-Tyr, but would understand the need for delicacy and discretion. Who do you trust that would first help us at this hour, and then allow us to proceed unobstructed?" The moment that her fingers ~ribbon thin~ slip into the waiting cusp of his own there is no way to hide the turmoil within her. It is a tempest of doubt and fear and palpable grief only barely postponed and just as quickly as she accepted his courtly manners does she rescind that touch. Withdraws the hand and its mate into the confines of the sleeves of her outer robe which she presses then before her. It is a symbolic bulwark that retreat. You do not know the lower levels like I do, she wants to say, but doesn't. "I am calm." And there are no such things as the dead that walk, too. It is all she can do not to pace their tiny confines. "I would sooner swallow glass than ask my Master." She calls up every Master she can think of in her mind. She would trust Anakin. She would trust Tzekal. And that….oh. "Thank you," she murmurs and turns sharply on her heel. Starts to make her way toward the door without so much as a by-your-leave. Fane knows Melakeni to be headstrong and willful, even proud, in a way that goes unrivaled by their fellow trainees in the Force. He knows that is as much a product of her upbringing as it is her confidence in her own acumen; she is not like most other Padawans who were brought to the Temple in infancy, and her emotional output was not modulated or sculpted by the practices and disciplines of the Jedi. Hers is a far more colorful history, of which she shares little, but he has heard enough bits and pieces to assemble the image he knows she prefers most here to have of her. She has reason to be headstrong and proud. If it were not so, she would not be permitted to get away with half the things she does. In that respect, she is not entirely unlike Skywalker. And that is a far safer comparison, in her auditory range, than any which would line her up with Master Windu -- notwithstanding their identical lightsaber hues and combat techniques. In fact… Fane would be more likely to draw parallels between Melakeni and the nameless 'dark woman' that seems to make appearances only and purely at her own discretion… oftentimes when she is least expected. So to detect the apprehension within Keni now is a thing most unusual, and gives Fane pause enough that she both mulls and appears to have her answer before he can even summon up the words to assuage her. And maybe that is for the best. Whenever Keni feels a thing, she feels it with all of her being, and he knows she has never been someone to dismiss a concern upon the bidding of another, no matter how serene and rational that person might be (even Masters Gallia, Unduli, and Yaddle combined might not be able to banish emotional upheaval from Keni).

First meeting
Paz was unsure on why the Mand'alor decided to ally with the Rebellion, but he quickly saw why. They needed his help, they needed the back-up of the former GAR, the Droid Army of the CIS and them. Mando'ade. Children of Mandalore. He sighed, looking at his mirror. He was insecure of his vitiligo, and the fact that his clan was known for being mostly white. It did not sit well with his dar'buir that he rebelled in looks. Slipping on his helmet, he walked out of the room.
Walking through the halls, he heard singing. It was not any song he recognized, but the melody had a hint of rebellion in it, and determination.
You can't take me, yeah
Gotta fight another fight, I gotta run another night I get it up, check it out I'm on my way and I don't feel right I gotta get me back, I can't be beat and that's a fact It's okay, I'll find a way You ain't gonna take me down no way, (whoa-oh) yeah
Don't judge a thing until you know what's inside it Don't' push me, I'll fight it Never gonna give in, never gonna give it up, no (whoa-oh) If you can't catch a wave, then you're never gonna ride You can't come uninvited Never gonna give in, never gonna give it up no You can't take me, I'm free
Why did it all go wrong? I wanna know what's going on And what's this holding me? I'm not where I supposed to be I gotta fight another fight, I gotta fight will all my might I'm getting out, so check it out You're in my way, yeah, you better watch out (whoa-oh) oh, come on
Don't judge a thing until you know what's inside it Don't' push me, I'll fight it Never gonna give in, never gonna give it up, no (whoa-oh) If you can't catch a wave, then you're never gonna ride You can't come uninvited Never gonna give in, never gonna give it up no You can't take me, I'm free Oh yeah, I'm free
He rounded the corner and saw the singer. It was the new kid, the one who blew up the Death Star. Lucky shot. He was using a shoe as a microphone, as he danced and pranced around. He was singing without a care, not realizing he had a watcher. He spun around, and made a sharp yelp, falling backwards on his rear.
"The song, you were singing, what was it?" he asked, his deep voice booming even with the vocoder.
"Oh. You can't take me, it's from a film me and my friends liked back home," was his answer.
"Paz. Paz Vizsla, and you are?"
"Luke Skywalker,"
"Skywalker, huh? Are you from Tatooine?"
"No, but my blood father was born there,"
"Oh, you're a Foundling then,"
"Yeah, I am the youngest out of all of my Vode,"
"What are their names?"
"Boba, Atlanta, Cody, Wolfee, Rex, Kix, Fives, Echo, Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, Tech, Omega, and Tempest,"
"Shit! You have fourteen older siblings!"
"Yeah, my buire are serial adopters,"
"Why are you with the Rebellion?"
"I wasn't planning to, I just wanted to get away from my overbearing siblings, and fighting Space Nazis seems like a good thing to do,"
"Skywalker, you are an di'kut,"
Paz walked away, blushing. He wasn't one to fall heads over heels in love at first sight. But Luke had hit all of the things he finds aesthetically pleasing in a potential partner. Din would tease him about this, when he finds out. He was a walking sun, bright and warm, but slightly dangerous. He was attracted to his sky-blue eyes and teasing smile.

𝙰𝙽 𝙸𝙼𝙿𝙴𝚁𝙲𝙴𝙿𝚃𝙸𝙱𝙻𝙴 𝙷𝙸𝚂𝚂 𝙿𝙴𝚁𝙼𝙴𝙰𝚃𝙴𝙳 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙰𝙸𝚁 ,  a lingering resonance of his fervent outburst that matched the rhythm of his heaving breaths, and the nascent turmoil searing the back of his throat, unrelenting as the newly birthed pain still settling in its blackened cavity.
luke skywalker straightened, his shoulders squared, every fiber of his being taut with newfound resolve.
❝you—❞ his arm shot up, a sudden blaster bolt amid the uneasy assembly of flight officers and soldiers— ❝begin an analysis of all surveillance records.  i want every second parsed, every pixel scrutinized.  get me the exact time and location of matthew’s last sighting aboard the executor, and if he was with company.  find me a face.  find me anything.❞
Tumblr media
opposite the bridge was a maintenance crew rounding up the evidence recovered from various locations aboard the executor: scraps of blackened slag, barely recognizable limbs belonging to that of his son’s beloved droid companions, all found scattered around the mouth of the east hangar bay.   matthew would want to salvage anything he could get his hands on.  luke was across the bridge in a blink, one finger pointed at the ground and speaking in hushed, soothing tones, a contrast so striking to his earlier display that the crew could do little more than nod dumbly.
❝transport it all to his workshop.  leave nothing behind,❞ luke insisted before turning on his heel.  with a single, authoritative sweep of his arm, his cadre surged forward, hastening to bridge the gap that separated them from the empire’s second-in-command. ... \\ @techniiciian
Tumblr media
the command deck was a veritable hive of activity, an ensemble of bodies ensconced in their own tasks, absorbed in the luminous glow of station consoles while others exchanged soft-spoken words as they pored over datapads.  amidst the organized chaos, at the heart of the swirling tempest, stood the empire’s prince, his eyes shut in contemplation, hands swaying idly by his sides.
luke reached into the force, mindful of his father’s sweeping awareness, his sister’s whetted perception, and what stray impressions his bondmate could glean from afar.  palpable unease gripped him, urging him to plunge deeper, to seek the elusive harmony of shared blood—a melodious refrain that had always beckoned from distant horizons.
but within the vast expanse of the cosmic force, luke discerned only … emptiness.  panic lanced into his gut without warning, seizing composure with fear-teeth — ALARMPAINRAGESUFFERING — and tearing it from him.  vertigo sent the commander stumbling, and he narrowly caught the edge of the holotable.  hunched over the projector and deaf to the mounting clamor behind him, luke frantically considered the implications of what he had just perceived.
it was undeniable: his tether to his son was weak—weaker than it had been an hour ago—and it grew weaker still, fading rapidly as though falling into a great abyss, or eclipsed by an absence never before encountered … luke’s hold on the table tightened when the answer surfaced at lightspeed: force inhibitor.
matthew, luke pleaded into the void.  where are you?

Characters
Karma / Dreamer, Astronomer, Lover of the Stars / He-Him / ref sheet
Phonetic Spelling: [Car-muh]
Voice Claim (Speaking): Anakin Skywalker from The Clone Wars Animated Series
My main OC, who currently lives on a starship with a small crew
Very reserved, but has a relatively pleasant personality when he does talk to others. Very smiley and gentle despite his size
Clumsy because of how big he is, though doesn't enjoy it much
Silverfall / Therapist, Serenity, Level-Headed Thinker / He-Him / ref sheet
Second Youngest of his siblings [Dropdash, Flamewire, Goldrake]
Used to be conjuxed to Karma, but was unfortunately offlined
Had a very happy and bubbly personality, but rarely showed it because of their willingness to listen to others and sit still
Very quiet speaker despite their personality (in most cases)
Really liked flowers like lavender because it was his brother, Goldrake's, favorite
Felt responsible for Goldrake up until they all went separate ways and lost contact with one another
Dropdash / Engineer, Blunt, Voice of Gravel / He-Him / Head Concept
The Eldest of his siblings [Silverfall, Flamewire, Goldrake]
Second tallest of his family
Very prickly personality
Not as intimidating as he tries to be
Hates flowers. Don't bring them anywhere near him unless you want a tool of some kind lobbed at your head.
Kibble puffs up a lot when angry- more than the average bot. This has been used as fuel to tease him plenty of times
Flamewire / Informant, Assassin, Teller of Secrets / He-She / Concept
Second Eldest of his siblings [Dropdash, Silverfall, Goldrake]
Tallest and tankiest of her siblings
He's not associated with Decepticons or Autobots, and will sell his services to anyone who will pay up
Cunning and self-centered
Leads an underground party that deals in secrets and assassination
Has a large following outside of either faction that will listen to her out of both loyalty and fear
His faceplates were scarred after a nasty brawl with a group of Decepticons
Many of the parts on her helm are cameras- many overlook them and see them as headlights or some other light source
Ether / Friendly, Painter, Fruit of Fate / He-Him / ref sheet [very outdated]
Phonetic Spelling: [EE-ther]
Kin of Karma and Silverfall
Very chaotic and energetic when he wants to be
Other than that he can be relatively quiet, especially when focused on a painting or other art project
Still grieving deeply over Silverfall's death and is more emotionally distant. He dissociates sometimes because of the event
Tries his best to take care of Karma while he can, even if sometimes he holds resentment towards him
Is hurt most when his caretaker, Karma, forgets him (this, unfortunately, is a common occurrence- especially as Karma grows older)
Tempest / [Placeholder] / He-Him
Cloudbreak / [Placeholder] / He-Him
Fireskimmer / Explorer, Exotreader, Fountain of Flame / He-Him
An XZ Class Exotreader frametype
Has an outlier ability that allows for him to combust parts of his body on command, though he can't use it for super long in risk of causing permanent fire damage- even with his fire resistance
Part of an explorer crew with others of his frametype
Both of his crewmates were his conjunx endura while they were all aboard their ship, The Novacore.
Currently in a holding cell under the Ruination Corps.' command
Paradigm / Cannibal, Mnemosurgeon, Two-Faced Vitriol / They-Them
Phonetic Spelling: [Pare-uh-dime]
Voice Claim (Speaking): The Conductor from Infinity Train (Vocoded, Robotic Voice)
Comprised of two individual bots, Jekyll and Hyde, and has two sparks in their frame
Both Jekyll and Hyde, when referred to individually, use He/Him pronouns
Hyde is the dominant of the two, more often being in control of the body and their motor functions
Hyde is cunning and overall an extremely manipulative individual, while Jekyll is more brutish and headstrong
They lead the Ruination Corps. alongside 5 other bots, though they are the overall "supreme" leader
Halcyon / Tactician, Chemist, Lurker in the Dark / They-He-It
Phonetic Spelling: [Hal-see-ON]
Voice Claim (Speaking): Higgs from Death Stranding
One of the Salvific Six- or the leaders of the Ruination Corps. besides Paradigm
Their tongue turns into a needle that they use to inject others with a variety of their dark concoctions, or suck fluids from objects
Has no optics on its face, though he does have sensors there...not to say that they don't have optics somewhere on their frame
Jaw can split open to grip onto things when using his needle
Vyrox / Surveillance Officer, Analyst, Creator of Malware/ He-They-She
Phonetic Spelling: [Vi-rocks]
Voice Claim (Singing): A Little Bit - Jake Daniels
Another member of the Salvific Six of the Ruination Corps.
Has an built-in system that lets him look through cameras and other surveillance devices- including comm units and other things of the like
Enjoys creating viruses that they can use against other bots
She isn't afraid to get their hands dirty if he has a duty that upholds the cause
Traitors will face Vyrox whether they like it or not, they don't miss anything going on within their ranks
Wolfram / KRAN-469074, Demolitionist, Elemental Expert / He-Him
Phonetic Spelling: [Wolf-rum]
Based on the KRAN frametype made by @cuppajj
The 74 at the end of his designated number is the same for that of Wolfram (now known as tungsten) on the periodic table of elements
Often straight-faced and intimidating to those he's unfamiliar with
Actually very goofy and loves joking around with others, even if it can take a while to get them to stop being somewhat afraid of him
Very science brain
Starbramble / Starseeker, Explorer, Shrouded Pathfinder / He-Him / ref sheet
Based on the Starseeker frametype made by @dimorphodon-x
Very lone wolf-esque mentality, though bonds that he makes are very strong
Betrayal will result in a life-long grudge. He doesn't do second chances
Lives on a jungle-heavy planet with his pet turbofox (even he doesn't know how he befriended the small beast)
Alternate Universes [AUs]
Counterfeit Paradigm
This is the name that I use for all of my OCs, but it's not really anything more than that. Most of the stuff involving this AU is just me talking about Paradigm or Karma lol
College AU - Main Info
An AU where everyone is in a College setting, though not everyone still has to be in college and can just be a normal citizen of sorts
Gecko AU - Some info
Not much info on this one as of right now other than all of the characters getting gecko-like features

Off the back of reading some Tortall fic that incorporated the characters, I finally sat down and read Tempests and Slaughter.
Then I had to reread the Daine books.
T&S is better as source material than as a read itself, I think. Watching a character who’s written in the text as sympathetic “Fall” when you already know their egomania and fate is a hard ask. Ozorne simply does not have the personality or character to make this INTERESTING.
We are well into our third decade of work on making Anakin Skywalker sympathetic, and it’s taken QUITE a while to stick. Getting a character to Poor Little Meow Meow status in a single book? Julian May managed to get Marc Remillard there in a book, but May used a frame character who had already forgiven Marc for all of it, plus’s proof of his reform simultaneously (you gotta love time travel loops).
In any case, Tempests and Slaughter is too slight to support “why should we care about Varice and Ozorne” while it’s also still working to support “are young Numair’s university days that interesting?” (Answer: not really)
