Boba comes into a meeting he has planned with some fellow crime lords covered head to toe in colourful finger paint (while also wearing a macaroni necklace to top it all off of course) because he offered to babysit grogu this week and the kid decided to paint on anything and everything that wasn’t the paper. This just so happened to include boba (his armor provides quite the amazing canvas), and unfortunately the so called washable paint turned out to not be as washable as claimed.

The Boba Fett Babysitting Archives: Interruptions
Tumblr media
One of Boba Fett’s criminal meetings ends up interrupted by that of the child and a present he has for him.
Warnings: Fluff, family fluff, domestic fluff, uncle boba, canon-typical violence, the child is safe the entire time though dont worry, no reader, no romance, not beta read
Word Count: 1955
Pairing: No romantic pairing.
a/n: this is a few weeks late now lol I ended up falling into a bad mental rut, but thank you all for being so patient and supportive during this time! I appreciate it a lot. Now please enjoy some of Boba Fett babysitting our favourite little child!
The king of the crime world, Boba Fett, sat perched high upon his throne. His helmet glinting menacingly in the dim light, as he titled his gaze down to the cowering person sitting before him. The man’s pleading and begging bouncing throughout the large room, as he tried to reason with the Mandalorian. Though it didn’t seem like his plea for life was going to end in his favour.
The man’s terrified voice had grabbed the attention of all those in the area, and they watched in bated breaths as the scene continued to unfold before them. Some had felt pity for the man, shaking their heads at the sad display he was showing, their hearts sinking with the knowledge that this would not end well. Others took delight in his distress, their grins and mocking gazes drinking in the sight of him like it was the most humorous thing. Treating him as if he was just the newest entertainment to befall the legendary hunters wraith. Though who could really blame them for their cheer? Only a fool would betray Boba Fett after all, and a fool this man was indeed.
“You have a lot of nerve crossing me.” Boba had finally spoken to the man. His voice thick with fury and sounding stern with each word that left him. “It’s like you’re asking for me to kill you.”
“Fett please! I… I-It was a mistake!”
A huff of a laugh had left the bounty hunter at the man’s words, his amusement with the man dwindling more with each pitiful remark he had heard. “A mistake? That’s what you’re calling it? Running off with my credits was just a little old mistake, hm?”
“I… It was a poor taste of judgment!” The criminal had said, his voice wavering with each word that left his lips, “I never should have run off with your credits. I-I wasn’t thinking. Please forgive me! I’ll never do such a thing again—I swear on my life!”
Boba had appeared to tip his head in thought while looking at the groveling fool in front of him. The sight of which had brought the said man a small drop of hope, thinking that he would be spared the fearsome bounty hunters punishment. Although that glimmer of freedom he sought had died quickly at hearing the Mandalorian’s next words.
“You see the thing is… Nobody crosses me and gets to walk free.”
Fennec Shand—who had remained close to her bosses side—had brought up the blaster rifle in her hands properly as he finished speaking. The weapon now pointed to the man as she steadied herself behind the scope. The intention of her actions clear to all those around and causing for another brief silence to fall over the room. All eyes turning to watch the show that was about to reach its peak.
“Babaa!”
Everyone in the room had seemed to freeze at the sudden sound of a child's cheerful cry ringing out into the chamber. Even Fennec’s finger had twitched away from the trigger of the rifle—though her gaze never did remove itself from the scope—as everyone soon nervously watched the small green child enter into the room. Their breaths quickly catching in worry as the kid made their way to the throne where the one and only Boba Fett was still seated.
The small child had shuffled up to stand before the fearsome man. His little smile never leaving his features while under the man’s daunting gaze—a feat not even many hunters could handle themselves. The child had babbled some more, still much too young to form proper words or even be in this type of place, as the armored covered man appeared to take a great interest in the little creature. Everyone soon watching as the kid held out a piece of paper—a drawing—towards the famous bounty hunter.
Boba Fett had stared at the offering for a moment, titling his head again at the sight of it. He had stood soon after, taking the paper out from the little child’s hands and seeming to give it a look over. A quiet hum leaving him as he did, though his true thoughts had remained unknown, due to the helmet which shielded his features of view. The child only letting out a happy coo in reply as he continued to watch Fett with unbound excitement.
Meanwhile, everyone else had the same questions hanging in their minds. Who was this kid and why was he here? The child was as good as dead as far as many of them were concerned. Nobody approached the legendary hunter and just got to walk away. This was Fett they were dealing with after all.
“Well would you look at that!” Boba had suddenly exclaimed, shocking everyone at the cheerfulness they heard. His loud voice soon echoing around the room and causing a new cloud of confusion to fall over everyone in its space. He had turned to his companion, showing the picture to her as well, the grin he now wore evident in his words alone, “Fennec take a look at what ad’ika drew for me.”
The woman had finally shifted her gaze from the scope, leaning over slightly to look at the paper and allowing for her own grin to overtake her features, “Looks just like you.”
“Doesn’t it?”
Boba had bent to pick up the child who had only continued to coo and babble happily up at him. He had walked down to the man kneeling at the bottom of his throne. Turning the paper to show him and holding it steadily to his view, as if he was waiting for the man to comment on it.
The paper in question had a brightly coloured drawing etched into its surface. A scribbled rendering of what appeared to be the bounty hunter holding hands with the child under a bright yellow sun. It was something typical of what you would expect a child to draw, but something unusual for a man such as Boba Fett to be excited about—or so everyone thought at least.
“Cute, ain’t it?” Boba had asked, his voicing shocking the man out of his confused daze all of a sudden. The bounty hunter's gaze hauntingly locked with the man’s own and striking another drop of fear into the criminal who still kneeled before him.
“Y-yes! Very cute!” The man had managed to let out in between shaking breaths. His reply quick and jumbled as he tried to calm his panicked heart, “Your child is quite the artist.”
“Oh he’s not mine.” Boba had replied nonchalantly while looking over the drawing once more, another pleased hum leaving him as he did, “Just babysitting for a friend.”
The bounty hunter had pinched the child’s cheeks lightly after his words. A rumbled chuckle leaving him as the child had let out another flurry of giggles at the ticklish gesture. Seeing the other hunter distracted, the man still kneeling had finally saw his chance for an escape. No one being none the wiser to the fact that he was now reaching for his blaster.
Boba Fett had caught the man’s movement though, his free hand quickly moving to pull out his own blaster before the man could completely remove his from its holster. Now pointing the weapon square with the man’s head, as his finger rested tauntingly over the trigger. It only would take one small pull to take the man's life. A simple movement and it all would be over.
“You’re a fool if you think you can pull a fast one on me.” Boba had spoken with a snarl, the child in his arms held closer into his chest and shielded away from any danger that the man below could cause. The child’s little eyes and large ears peeking up in interest, as he peered down at the once again quivering man from the safety of his caretaker’s hold.
“Now now Fett…” The criminal had smiled wearily up at the bounty hunter, nodding his head towards the child still sitting in the other man’s arms, “You don’t want to scare the kid or anything.”
Boba had merely shrugged, something which only caused more confusion among those in the room, the smirk the hunter wore evident in his voice as he spoke, “He’s seen worse.”
The blaster shot had fired quickly, the bright light shooting out and striking its target with pin-point precision. The man’s body had slumped over just as quickly and Boba had frowned beneath his armored layers. Turning to face where the shot had fired from, as the child had let out a shrill of coos and giggles from the excitement he had just witnessed.
“You’re always taking my fun away Fennec.”
The woman had only smirked at her boss and friend, setting the blaster rifle down in a more relaxed position, as she looked over them both. She had given a small wave with her hand to the child in his arms, before shrugging to the bounty hunter as she spoke, “Should have been quicker… besides you really shouldn’t be dragging this out in front of the kid.”
A sigh had left the bounty hunter, knowing that she was right, but not willing to admit such a thing. Finding himself wiggling his own fingers towards the little one still held tightly in his arms as a distraction. Murmured whispers of those in the room had soon broken out again, their stares now lingering over the child as they conversed about what had just happened and what it meant for them.
Hearing their questioning and feeling their gazes, Boba had found himself irritated, turning to let out a snarl from deep in his throat. Intent on making it clear of what exactly would happen if they dared to bring harm to the child with just his fury alone.
“What are you all staring at?” He had bellowed out, his voice echoing throughout the throne room and causing a new air of fright to settle among those who sat within its confines. Everyone’s gazes quickly snapping away at his question and going back to their own mumbled conversations. The child now dropped from their thoughts as they found themselves afraid of what the man would do to them if they dared to mention the kid again.
Boba had sat on his throne once more, though this time the child had been seated with him on his lap. Nobody questioned him on the child, nor did they even dare to look at them both sitting together. Barely giving another glance as the bounty hunter looked over the drawing again with the kid. Trying their best to drown out the sounds of the man’s surprisingly kind remarks and the little one’s giggles that could still be heard.
Some did think of how they could use this new information to their advantage. Wondering if they could use this newly discovered soft spot of the bounty hunter’s to achieve their goals. Although, those few individuals had soon watched their plans fall apart at the arrival of the child’s father later that day—another Mandalorian who seemed just as deadly as Fett.
Soon the appearance of the little green child would become the norm. His interruptions of the bounty hunters meetings a frequent, and almost joyful, occurrence for those of his court. It was strange of course, but it wasn't the weirdest thing any of the others in the palace had seen in their time around the Galaxy. Probably wasn’t the safest place for the small creature to be hanging around either. Then of course, it’s not like anyone would dare to do anything to the little green child anyway—only a fool would cross Boba Fett after all.

The Boba Fett Babysitting Archives: An Unexpected Start
Tumblr media
Boba Fett has been tasked with babysitting the child for the first time—and of course he somehow manages to lose him in a matter of minutes.
Warnings: I don’t know what to really tag tbh. It’s mostly just Fluff with an uncle boba babysitting. Domestic fluff (?). Not a reader insert. a lil bit of canon divergence (Boba fett babysitting au anyone?)
Word Count: 2,021
Pairing: No romantic pairing.
a/n: Hey everyone! Here’s the first of many fics to be put in The Boba Fett Babysitting Archives (a boba fett babysitting series basically). The series isn’t completely going to be in chronically order, but I thought it fitting to start with the first time he babysat. So enjoy a concerned uncle searching for the kid he managed to lose in a matter of seconds - because of course this happened the first time Boba Fett was babysitting. (also a brief scene with a worried din).
Translations: Buir - Parent/Father/Mother || Ret'! - Bye/See you
When one heard the name Boba Fett, they usually thought of the legendary bounty hunter with a fierce reputation. A fearsome foe who many wouldn’t even dare to cross paths with. A man who was known for his vicious and nearly flawless execution of bounty hunting. The idea of such a person babysitting never even crossed their minds. He was Boba Fett—a deadly man with even deadlier skills—he was not a babysitter.
No, Boba Fett was not a babysitter by any means. Although, that knowledge didn’t seem to stop the other Mandalorian from requesting his services as one. In his defense, Boba did agree to the arrangement, regardless of everyone's surprise and shock. The man himself didn’t see any issues with accepting such a task. A job was a job after all. Whether it was hunting down quarries, or looking after a small green child for a friend. He really didn’t care what the job entailed as long as he was getting paid accordingly. Actually... Was he getting paid?
The sound of movement had pulled Boba from his thoughts, and he found himself locking his gaze with that of the child currently in his care. The child in question of course being Grogu, the son of his friend and newly appointed ruler of Mandalore, Din Djarin. They were travelling aboard the Salve I for the moment, and were on course for his own recently acquired palace on Tatooine. He had just picked up the little one from his father, and was trying to figure out what exactly he should be doing while babysitting the child.
“So… what do kids your age like to do?”
Silence was the only reply he had received. The child’s head tilting slightly as he peered up at the man with his wide pools of wonder. The small creature hadn’t said a word in response to his question, and honestly he wasn’t even sure if the child was capable of proper speech by this point.
In his time around the child with Din, other than the odd babble or baby gibberish, he hadn’t heard the little one say a single word. He had however, seen the child use his force abilities. He even knew that the child was undergoing some training as a Jedi when he wasn’t staying with his father. Something which had made him second guess wanting to spend any alone time with the little creature.
Boba knew that by accepting the job from the other Mandalorian, he was technically looking after a jedi—or at least a future one. It was a thought which had made his stomach churn with displeasure, so he tried not to think too much about it. He adored his little nephew after all—jedi or not—but that didn’t change how he felt about the jedi as a whole.
The bounty hunter had ended up looking away from the child again thanks to his wandering thoughts. Still finding himself feeling tense and unsure of what exactly he was supposed to be doing. In all honesty, he had no idea how to look after a child, and out of everyone he was probably the least qualified to do so. It wasn’t as if anyone had taught him how to care for one, and his own childhood was definitely not the greatest reference to go by. Then, with adding in his own distaste for jedi on top of all that—it had been made clear he was probably the least suitable choice. Even so, Din had chosen him anyway.
“You know I was only a little older than you when I started to learn how to hold a blaster,” He had commented absentmindedly, the fond memories he had of his own father filtering back to him. A smile now crossing his features at the thought, his gaze briefly locking with that of the weapons cabinet he possessed onboard, “I feel like your buir would kill me though if I let that happen.”
The Mandalorian had let out a chuckle to himself, shaking his head as he turned to face the child once more. Though, he had soon felt his heart drop at the sight before him. His smile morphing into a frown and worry beginning to consume him, as he quickly began to catch up to speed with what he saw—or rather—didn’t see.
The child was gone.
Instant panic had flowed through Boba at the realization and he stood quickly from his spot in the chair. His head whipping around in a desperate attempt to locate where the little one had gone, looking around the room in a hurry, “kid?”
Once again there was no reply, only the sound of the ship’s engine could be heard echoing off the walls. Another wave of worry had washed over him then, soon pushing for him to begin searching anywhere and everywhere he could think to look. In the crates, under the control panel, in the hatches—it didn’t matter where or what it was—Boba checked each and every place he could. Though no matter how hard he looked, he couldn’t seem to find any trace of the child. It was almost as if he had completely vanished.
“Kid this ain’t funny!” He had shouted, his voice laced with frustration and undeniable distress.
Not many things could scare Boba Fett, but losing the child was devastating for him in the moment. Yeah he didn’t like the jedi, and yes he was definitely not a babysitter, but he still cared for the little womp-rat.
Boba continued to take a look around the ship—still making sure to check every nook and cranny as he did. The more he had looked though, the more concerned he had become. His search only becoming more desperate the longer it went on. He had never felt so hopeless in his life, not even when he was on brink of death.
“Grogu!” He had called out again, wondering briefly if maybe the child would answer to his name, “Grogu where are you?”
Only silence was his reply again and by now some hours had passed with no sign of the child. This wasn’t good at all. Even worse, he knew he’d have to contact Din.
Boba had paced back and forth, checking a few new spots for the child as he did, while waiting for the other Mandalorian to answer his call. Din was going to kill him and honestly he might just let him. Today could be the day that Boba Fett officially died.
“Hey Boba!” Din had said rather cheerfully, clearly not having been to one of his important mandalore meetings yet, “If you’re looking for the metal ball it's in the front pocket of the baby bag.”
Boba’s gaze had shifted over to the overstuffed bag at his friend’s words. He wished he was calling for such a simple thing. He honestly didn’t know how he was going to break this down for the single father. How do you tell someone you lost the most important thing to them in the universe?
“It’s not that Din.” He had said, trying to keep his voice steady as he spoke, not wanting to raise too much concern in the other man. “It’s… Well honestly you might want to sit down for this.”
A long drawn out pause had followed after Boba’s suggestion, “Boba is something wrong?”
“Yeah you could say that.” Boba had muttered, more to himself than to Din, looking away at the sudden feeling of not being able to look the other man in the face. An odd sense of guilt blossoming inside his gut—something he wasn’t used to in the slightest.
“Did something happen?” Din had asked, concern evident in his voice as he spoke, “Is grogu ok?”
“Din…” Boba had trailed off, still unsure of how he was supposed to tell the man before him that he had lost his only child. “You see... it’s just a bit complicated and Grogu he-”
A sudden shrill of giggles had cut off Boba's words, the sound making his head snap to the direction it had come from. His eyes widening underneath the helmet at the sight of a small shadow with large pointed ears dashing by the opened hatch which lead back into the hull.
The child.
“Boba! What’s going on?”
Hearing Din’s voice had brought him back to reality and he quickly replied to the worried father, “Nothing! Everything’s under control. Ret'!”
Before the other Mandalorian could reply, he had shut off the communicator and made his way back to the hull. Nearly tripping over himself in his hurry, as he made his descendant into the other room, and followed the distant sounds of the child’s laughter. Ignoring the beeping of his comlink as he made his way closer and closer to where he’d hopefully find the child.
Luckily, to his undeniable relief, he did in fact come face to face with the child once more. Only this time the little one sat by an open crate—one where he usually stored some necessary rations onboard—snacking on some cookies he had taken.
Boba blinked in surprise at the sight before him, not expecting to stumble upon it and unsure of how exactly to react. Had the little one been here the whole time? Unlikely. Seeing as the man had looked here earlier in the day and he had literally just followed him here. The child had most likely come looking for something to eat—considering most of his time before was spent avoiding and hiding from his bounty hunter uncle.
Another sound from his comlink had made him check it once more, an irritated sigh leaving him from the list of missed calls he had recently received from the child’s father. Din must be in a worried state now from how the call ended. He'd have to call him back at some point, though right now all the older man wanted to do was sit down and relax. Besides—the other Mandalorian would be in an important meeting soon anyways—the callback could wait.
Boba had ended up looking down to the child again. Who had giggled up at him happily at seeing the man’s attention brought back to him once more. A small huff of a laugh had left Boba at seeing the little one’s excitement and he shook his head in disbelief at the scene before him. Soon muting the comlink and settling himself next to the child on the floor, as another tired sigh had left him.
“This definitely did not start off as planned.” He had hummed tiredly, a reminder of his age beginning to catch up on him, as he began watching over the little one snack on his acquired cookies. Not having the heart, nor the energy, at the moment to take them away and scold him for taking them.
The sight of the child had soon brought another smile to his face anyway. Leading him to fondly rub the child’s ear the same way he had seen Din do so many times before, “You’re quite the little trouble maker alright, aren’t ya?”
A soft coo had left the child from the man’s gesture, and he moved to hold up one of the cookies towards him. He had stared at the cookie and the child for a long moment, surprised by the little one's gesture. Soon though, he had felt another laugh rumbling in his chest, letting it escape him loudly and brightly. This laugh of his being deeper and more joyful sounding than his usual chuckle. Making the child practical bounce with glee at hearing it for the first time.
Boba had removed his helmet then with an audible click, setting it to the side, before looking back to the kid. A wide grin spread across his features as he leaned forward and accepted the cookie from the child. Taking a bite and watching as the little one babbled in delight at being able to share cookies with his uncle. The sound of his cheerful giggling making all the man’s earlier worries melt away.
“You know what kid? I think we’re going to have a swell old time together.”

The Boba Fett Babysitting Archives: Naptime
Tumblr media
Boba Fett struggles to put the chaotic and energetic child in his care down for a nap.
Warnings: fluff, child care, no reader, uncle boba babysitting, not beta read
Word Count: 2953
Pairing: No romantic pairing. Just uncle boba and grogu bonding.
a/n: So I thought about doing the Din part in it’s own separate part buuut I decided that it wasn’t too big of a deal just to have it here as a mini continuation. Sooo enjoy! Boba needs a nap y’all.
Boba Fett, arguably the best bounty hunter in the Galaxy, was capable and skilled in many things. He could pilot a ship without skipping a beat, shoot targets with pinpoint accuracy, and of course there were no questions about his abilities in terms of bounty hunting. He was good at what he did and that was a fact, but him taking care of a child was another story completely.
The bounty hunter had been struggling to get the child, his precious nephew, to take a nap for what felt like hours now. It wasn’t as if the kid was throwing a nasty fuss or anything, but rather, the issue was the abundance of untamed energy the little creature seemed to have at the moment.
Boba was having a difficult time trying to manage the bursts of excitement that the child had possessed today. Finding himself struggling to get the little one to even sit still long enough so he could be tucked in properly. Clearly the sugary cookies that Boba had let him eat as an afternoon snack was turning out to be a bad idea.
“Where’s Fennec when you need her?” He had grumbled more to himself than anything, wishing that his friend was here to help him instead of off chasing the bounty he had sent her after. He wasn’t sure how, but Fennec had turned out to be great at getting the kid to go down for a nap, no matter the type of day he was having. “Why do you listen to her but not me?”
The child had only let out some happy gibberish at the man’s words. Soon allowing more giggles to leave him, as he reached out from the crib towards his favourite uncle. His little hands making grabby motions at the toys which the man had taken away not too long ago.
“Oh no you don’t.” He had said, soon turning around quickly to go put the toys away, as the child had let out a surprised sound while watching, “It’s naptime not playtime. These toys are going in the chest until after your nap.”
The child had instantly frowned at hearing Boba’s reasoning behind taking the toys. His ears drooping and eyes wavering with a pleading look that usually held the ability to melt even the toughest of people's heart. Boba had long since gotten used to that look though, and instead of crumbling under the child’s gaze, he had put away the toys. The chest closing afterwards with an audible click that had only made the kid pout more.
The disappointed child had let out a displeased sound and Boba had felt a ping of guilt tugging at his heart at the sight of him. He didn’t like having to be the one to take the child’s fun away. There was a reason the little one had enjoyed his time spent with the bounty hunter after all. He had made it quite apparent that he was the fun uncle, and honestly, if Boba himself wasn’t so tired he might even let the child skip the afternoon nap. Unfortunately for the kid, the bounty hunter was getting old, and even he needed a quick nap from time to time.
“Grogu...” The child’s ears had perked again at hearing the bounty hunter speak his name, an air of hope finding itself within his round depths, “Lay down, it’s time to get some sleep.”
The excitement that the small creature had showed had died once more at hearing the man’s words. The sight of his frown this time causing a chuckle to leave Boba as he patted the child’s head fondly. He had tucked him in soon after, making sure the blanket was snug and comfortable around him, as he spoke soft encouragements of sleep to the kid. Whispers of promised fun to happen after their own respective naps dancing quietly within the small room.
Once satisfied with seeing that Grogu had begun settling down and drifting off to sleep, Boba had left the room quietly. Shutting the door extra carefully, as if he was afraid it would combust at the even the tiniest of movement, before making his way to the throne room. His own yawn escaping his lips at the thought of finally being able to get in some rest before the child awoke again.
Entering into his famed throne room, the bounty hunter had found himself stunned in place at the sight before him. A pool of confusion finding itself settled in his gut, as he almost did a double take at seeing the child he had just put down for a nap now sitting on his throne. The man had blinked in surprise at first, shocked to see the kid just casually sat there—giggling and laughing—instead of asleep in his own bed.
“Who put you here?” He had asked in disbelief, still not quite able to grasp the fact that the child had managed to get to the throne room ahead of him, and without him having had noticed. Clearly someone had to have helped him. There was no other way the kid could have gotten here otherwise.
Gorgu had only cood happily up at his uncle, clearly not willing, or even able, to voice who had decided to remove him from the comfort of his sheets. Boba had felt himself sigh, a tired grumble leaving him, as he scooped the child into his arms once more. Soon making his way back to the kid’s room as the little one squirmed and spoke in gibberish to him the entire way. His little attempts of reasoning against naptime falling deaf on the man carrying him off to bed.
“It’s naptime, ok?” Boba had stressed again to the child, an odd sense of desperation finding itself embedded in his voice, “Grogu you need to sleep.”
The child had let out a disappointed sound again, his ears lowering at hearing his uncle's suggestion, as he was once more tucked into the soft sheets. A hum had left Boba as he did this,  and he made sure that the blankets were just a little more snug around the child this time. Before he soothingly rubbed his fingers along the little creature’s large ear in a calming manner.
“Rest up kid.”
Once again Boba had left the child in his bed, a sigh of relief leaving his lips as he made his back to the throne room. His own excitement for a quick nap obvious in each step he took as he nearly skipped through the hallway. The few remaining servants that day passing each other weird looks at seeing this, but not voicing their concern in fear of how the man would react. Though frankly the Mandalorian didn’t really care what they thought of his clear excitement. He just wanted to go take a nice long nap.
Soon, he had once again entered the throne room, the joy he felt for a nap dying though as he stopped in place once more in shock at seeing the child sat on the decorative chair just as last time. He had even pinched himself wondering if this was all just some sort of strange dream, though the sound of the happy babbles and coos coming from the child still sat before him said otherwise.
“What in the maker… how did you get here?”
The child had only giggled at the bounty hunters question. His hands waving up excitedly as he spoke in chattered gibberish to the man. The smile the child wore probably the brightest he had seen it all day, and if he wasn’t already so exhausted, he was sure he’d have a matching one tugging at his lips.
Boba had just let out a tired sigh though, shaking his head rather fondly, as he picked up the child and held him in his arms again. “Alright enough games, time to get some sleep ad’ika.”
The bounty hunter had turned around swiftly after his words. Once again making his way back to the child’s room for what felt like the hundredth time that day, as the little creature squirmed in his arms. His whines and pleading babbles against the dreaded nap to come increasing the closer they got to their destination. Although Boba was unrelenting in his goal of putting the energetic child down for a rest.
Most times he would have given up on the idea of the child napping by this point. Boba just didn’t simply have the energy or time to be wasting on making the kid do things he clearly didn’t want to do and it was a known fact that he liked to twist the rules. He’d let the kid get away with and do things the other Mandalorian would never even think of allowing. Today was not one of those days though, and all Boba wanted to do was get the child to sleep so he could get his own nap in.
Arriving at the child’s room, the bounty hunter had once again gone to work at putting the kid to rest. Tucking him within the fluffed sheets and running a smoothing touch along his ear just as he did last time to help the kid relax. He had even quietly hummed a gentle tune he recalled from his own childhood, hoping that the soft notes and murmurs would help with bringing the child closer to the brink of sleep. Then, when he was certain the kid would not be following him, he left once more and made his way back to the throne room.
“Oh you gotta be kidding me.”
It seems Boba would not be getting a break today when it came to this, because of course when he had entered into the throne room again he was met with the sight of the kid happily seated on his decorative throne. He’d have to take the child to his room again, and hopefully this time the little one would stay where he belonged. Otherwise the bounty hunter was sure he’d end up losing his sanity.
Unfortunately for Boba though, this sequence of events had repeated three more times before he finally decided to call it quits. Now finding himself slumped on the throne with the child rocking and giggling within his arms. He didn’t have the energy to take the kid back to his room by this point, nor did he have the will to figure out how the little creature had kept managing to get here without any help. As far as he was concerned, those things were for after nap Boba to figure out.
“You’re quite a handful when you want to be, aren’t ya?” The bounty hunter had said in between some yawns, his eyes threatening to slip shut behind the helmet which shielded his features from view as he continued speaking, “Always causing some sort of trouble for me.”
Grogu had smiled sweetly up at the man while he listened to him talk, soon reaching towards the chin of his helmet and holding onto it fondly. Another shrill of giggles leaving the child, as his sides were tickled by Boba, who only chuckled tiredly at the sound of the small creature laughing energetically in his arms.
“Well if you won’t take a nap in your room then you can take one here with me.” Boba had said before settling himself more comfortably into the throne, and letting his eyes finally shut themselves completely, “I think we both could use a nap, don’t you?”
The child had frowned and allowed his ears to lower as he peered up to the bounty hunter. Seeing how serious his uncle was, he had begun to squirm in the man’s arms again, hoping to free himself and escape the nap which he had been avoiding all afternoon. Although, he had given up after a brief while at discovering that the hold on him wasn’t leaving anytime soon. The small huff that left the kid in the moment making the still awake bounty hunter smile beneath the helmet. As he shifted his weight so he could hold the child closer into his chest and sink them both further into the throne all while another yawn had left him.
The little one had cooed out his own yawn at the sound of Boba’s. Trying to shake away his own need for sleep before finding himself relaxing more in the man’s hold. The small child had then nuzzled himself tightly into the bounty hunter, allowing his head and ears to tuck into the curve of his arms. His eyes now beginning to flutter as his sudden tiredness tugged at his young mind.
“Seems like you’re more tired than what you’re letting on.” Boba had laughed quietly before opening his eyes again to glance down at the child, who had only hummed back quietly in reply. “Finally ready for that nap?”
This time the only reply Boba has received was a soft snore from the child. The sound of which had brought a feeling of relief to flow through him. He had did a quick check of the time, humming at the knowledge that they still had a few hours before Din was to arrive back to pick up the child. Surely they would both be awake by that time. So, with this in mind, he had once again closed his eyes. Feeling his tiredness finally overtake him and send him to join the child in a well deserved sleep.
----
“Boba?”
The other Mandalorian had called as he had first entered the palace, his voice ringing out into the wide space and echoing back without a solid reply. The lack of a response causing him to take a look around the open and empty area in bewilderment at its strange emptiness. Now finding himself even more confused and concerned at how strangely quiet the palace seemed that day.
“Where are you two?” He had found himself asking out loud, still unsure of where exactly the other hunter had disappeared off to with his foundling and hoping to hear some sort of reply, “Are you two alright?”
Din had once again received no answer from a single soul. Only finding a long drawn out silence in place of his words. There weren’t even any servants around for him to ask for any help in finding the other bounty hunter. It was honestly so strange and worrying to see the palace so devoid of life.
The Mandalorian had already known something was off when Boba hadn’t greeted his arrival in the docking area with the child like he usually did. The lack of anyone else being around had made this concern of his even worse though, and the longer he went without finding anyone he had found himself on the verge of panicking. This had easily made him become worried beyond belief and he had quickly found himself practically running to the throne room. Hoping that once he got there he would finally find the other bounty hunter and his foundling safe within its confines.
When finally entering the room Din had found himself freezing in place almost instantly at the sight laid out before him. His breathing heavy and ragged as he found another surge of confusion and surprise pooling inside of him. His mind trying its best to function correctly as it slowly came up to speed with what he was looking at during this moment.
“Would you look at that…” He had said in a soft voice, just barely above a whisper as to not disturb them both and allowing a small smile to cross his lips, “Must have had a tiring day.”
The Mandalorian had definitely found the both of them, something which had both relieved and relaxed him at seeing them safe. The two were both clearly in a sleeping state, with Boba lounging out on the throne and the child tucked closely into his chest. Snores left both the sleeping figures, though the bounty hunters were deeper and more gruff, filling up the large throne room easily.
No wonder no one was here, not a soul would even dare to think of risking waking them up and having to deal with the famed bounty hunters wraith.
Din’s smile had suddenly widened, and he let out a chuckle at the sight of them both cuddled together on the throne. He wasn’t used to seeing the other Mandalorian in such a carefree state. Boba always seemed to have a certain edge to him, even while in the presence of the child, but at this moment he found it hard to believe that it was the same man sitting in front of him.
He supposed being the uncle of a chaotic little jedi in training would do that to you though. He knew first hand just how tiring looking after Grogu could be after all, and he didn’t doubt for a second that the little creature had managed to do something to make the other man seem so exhausted.
The Mandalorian did briefly think about waking them, but finding that he didn’t have the heart to do so, he had decided to leave them be for the moment. He had some work to do in the nearby town anyway, and there wasn’t really any harm in letting them rest for a little longer.
So, with this in mind, Din had chosen to leave the room just as quietly as he had entered. Only turning to look over at the two sleeping again briefly before leaving. Another smile resting on his lips as he whispered a soft farewell to the uncle and nephew enjoying their naptime together on the throne.
“Sweet dreams you two.”
