Chapter Warnings: blood purity discrimination, honestly I think that's all. This is also a super tame chapter. It's gonna end up wild later I'm playing around with slow burn.
The next day Tom was waiting for you after your last class, leaning against the stone wall looking dark and broody as usual. "Come with me." He said and immediately turned walking quickly in the opposite direction. You rushed to keep up with him. "Where are we going?" You questioned. "To start fulfilling your part of the vow."
The two of you took several dark empty hallways that you had never been in before, leading you through Hogwarts, outside, and then towards the twisted and ominous trees of the forbidden forest. "Is this really necessary?" Your voice a whisper even though no one was there to hear you but him. "The nature of what we will be doing is forbidden. Yes, it is necessary to avoid being seen." His voice was laced with annoyance and far too loud for your liking.
Finally, you reach a clearing where his followers were waiting. Several of them laughed seeing you. Including Nott, Malfoy, and of course Avery who sneered at your arrival. "Her? You want us to learn from muggle born scum?" He spat walking towards you. Tom held up his hand stopping him. "This 'scum' dueled me better than any of you ever have. So unless you think you can do better against me than her, you will fight the muggle born scum." You looked at Tom like he was crazy. Was that a compliment to you, or an insult to them? He'd never said anything remotely nice to you before. Merlin, how you wished last night had never happened.
When no one said anything Tom had them stand back as he volunteered Avery to duel you first since he doubted its necessity. The surrounding forest became silent except for the wind that blew at your h/c hair whipping it around you as you stood with your wand ready. The atmosphere felt electric with anticipation.
"Stupefy!" He threw the spell at you stepping forward his body tense. "Protego!" you blocked then spun to counter attack knocking him back. You waited for him to recover, allowing him to attack again. "Confringo!" He was furious. Again you block and counter. "Y/n!" Tom snaps. "Stop toying with him." Fine, you nod and ease into a better stance to begin the dance. "Levioso!" You cast. His eyes hadn't made their way back to you before you threw more at him. "Accio!" He was thrown closer to you hanging in the air. Avery tried to raise his wand to attack, but you were quicker. "Diffindo!" You cast followed by multiple base attacks. His body jerked as each spell hit him before falling to the ground with a groan.
Lowering your wand you watch his body lay limp in silence for a moment. Then clapping erupted making you jump. Turning you look at Tom who was staring at you blankly while the rest of his group clapped. Lestrange smirked as he clapped and nodded at you making your ears feel hot. Being liked by the pure bloods might be worse than the alternative you think, but still you feel a sense of pride at finally being recognized for your talents.
"Let this be a lesson. There is no room for emotion when dueling. Do not let your anger, or your arrogance get the better of you or you will end up like that." Tom says gesturing to Avery who was being helped up by a few of the others. "That will be all for today. Tomorrow, I expect everyone to be ready to duel miss L/n." He finished.
Everyone slowly left in pairs until it was just you and Tom. "Should we head back now?" You ask nervous to be alone with him again. "I found some information about your family." He stated.
"So you have your proof then."
"So it seems." Tom brushes his hair back out of his face. "It mentioned a power within your family, but not what it is or where it comes from." He watches you waiting for a reply. Finally you answer, "Any information you seek on the matter is in the restricted section. The more complex the matter, the harder it will be to find I imagine."
"Yes I imagine so, but you could also stop wasting my time and tell me." He's annoyed again. "You wanted me to teach your goons, and I want to waste your time. That was the 'nature' of our vow wasn't it?" You snap back tired of the back and forth. Tom laughs, a real laugh, not a cold one like you would've expected, shocking you. Then he shakes his head and walks back to the castle smiling, so you follow him in silence.
