There I was, stirring my tea with a table knife, when I was struck with inspiration.

Consider this: we have a Zuko joins the gaang situation--a redeemed sort-of-villain still adjusting to this new group of nice heroic people. Let's call them Character X.

And we have a Katara: someone who still harbors some distrust and resentment towards this redeemed individual. Let's call them Character Z.

They're kind of rivals still. Maybe it's a childhood bully joining the friend group, or something like that. That kind of dynamic.

And like. There's just this running joke of Character Z always finding a way to sneak a threat into every conversation with Character X. In the form of a knife.

X runs into Z stirring their tea. They have a somewhat amicable conversation. When X is about to leave, Z just pulls out what X THOUGHT WAS A SPOON from their tea and it's a KNIFE?? And Z just licks the tea off the knife without breaking eye contact with X.

Z is sewing something. X walks into the room. Suddenly, Z puts down the little scissors they were about to use to cut the thread, and pulls a GIANT KNIFE out of their sewing box and uses that instead.

X looks over and sees that Z is drawing, cool--WHERE DID THE PENCIL GO?? WHY ARE THEY HOLDING A DAGGER? HOW ARE THEY EVEN DRAWING WITH THAT?

So, there's a lot of USians around who are very clearly fucking fed up with their political choices this election cycle, and planning to sit it out.

And I get it! What's the point of voting if there's no one to vote for?

The thing is, I'm Australian. In Australia, voting is compulsory. We don't get to sit out our elections, and I'll be real honest with you - we don't exactly get better choices than you lot. So how do you vote if there's no one to vote for? You find someone to vote against. And there's always someone to vote against.

Now, we have the pleasure of preferential voting in Australia - We get to rank every candidate from 1 to X, and I'll tell you, there's something so cathartic about putting the biggest bastard of the lot at the very bottom of your preferences. I understand that USians don't get that option - you get to mark one person, and that's it.

That means that you get one shot, so aim it at the biggest bastard of the lot. The candidate you most utterly detest. Put your vote in the worst possible place for them. Don't even think about who that vote's going towards, that's not the point. Remember, every vote is a vote against someone. Make sure you fuck up that someone's election day!

I'm aware this is petty and very unkarmic of me or whatever, but the amount of joy I just experienced logging in to Facebook to discover that a former boss, who bullied me relentlessly and made my mental health significantly worse, fell down a manhole loony toons style, is off the charts.
