"Romances in space are just out of this world. Love in the dangerous, endless expanse of space isn’t easy. Traveling far distances in ships that you often cannot leave is challenging in the best of conditions. In space, the door is locked and you have to make it work. Interplanetary travel, adventure, and romance are not for the faint of heart. Good thing I have some entertaining books to pick up instead of making the trip yourself.
My favorite romances in space involve a level of mystery, political intrigue, and danger. There is just something about a romantic pairing in trouble that really sells me on their mutual respect, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. When you are in space and in trouble, sometimes love is part of the answer, and I think that’s fun."

STARTED READING: The Principle Of Moments by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson. Love this book. Got sucked in wholesale, right from the start. Beautifully written, strong atmosphere, easily connective characters. A dream to read. Highly recommended.

Good evening goobers it’s time for The Principal of Moments!!!! This is the Illumicrate edition, which features more of an alt jacket than a complete redesign. I love the colors on it, which definitely gave me an excuse to use more fun colored tabs for fucking once, too. Below is the hardcover, which is foiled, and the edges which I ADORE. They might not be as fancy as a lot of stenciled edges but I fell in love with them instantly. Beauty in simplicity.

A century-spanning space fantasy novel that will take you on a whirlwind adventure, from a Regency Era love affair between a time-traveller and the prince waiting for him in the past, to a rescue mission in the 60th century, where a girl desperately races against time as she searches for the sister the emperor stole. 6066: In Emperor Thracin’s brave new galaxy, humans are not citizens. Instead, they are indentured labourers, working to repay the debt they unwittingly incurred when they settled on Gahraan - a desert planet already owned by the emperor himself. Asha Akindele knows she’s just another voiceless cog working the assembly lines that fuel his vast imperial war machine. Her only rebellion: studying stolen aeronautics manuals in the dead of night. But then a cloaked stranger arrives to deliver an impossible message, and her life changes in an instant. 1812: Obi Amadi is done with time-travelling. Never mind the fact he doesn’t know how to cure himself of the temporal sickness he caught whilst anchoring his soul to Regency London, the one that unmakes him further with every jump. Or if the prince he loves will ever love him back. Or why his father disappeared. He is done. Until he hears about the ghost of a girl in the British Museum. A girl from another time. When Obi’s path tangles with Asha’s and a prophecy awakens in the cold darkness of space, they must voyage through the stars, racing against time, tyranny, and the legacy of three heroes from an ancient religion who may be awakening, reincarnated in ways beyond comprehension.

The Principle of Moments by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson
Tumblr media
4 Stars.
Ah, It's been such a long time so lets make this quick. The Principle of Moments is a Sci-Fi Fantasy, time travel story mainly focus on two characters. One a girl from the future and in some other planet and a boy that can travel through time but wants to settle down with a prince of England from the past. This hit some generic tropes, chosen one prophecy's with reluctant heroes and even the fight to save a family you've never met. It did work well, and I very much enjoyed reading. Unfortunately I don't see myself picking up the next one of this series, purely because I don't have all the time in the world to read everything and I'm just prioritising books I really love and enjoy.
Finished Feb 24th.

Illumicrate Unboxing
In the Stars December 2023
The last Illumicrate box of the year - and very likely the last box I'll receive in 2023, as neither the FairyLoot or OwlCrate box has shipped.
The featured book is "The Principle of Moments" by Esmie Jikemi-Pearson. This is a time-travel sci-fi novel. I'm not usually into time-travel, but I do love sci-fi, so we'll see! This edition features an exclusive cover which was supplied by the publisher, so matches well with the original design. It also has foiling on the hardcase, and printed edges, but neither are particularly inspiring. It also has artwork endpapers, which are gorgeous!
The first item is, apparently, a TBR jar. I think it looks like a money box. It has a coin slot. The point of a TBR jar, surely, is to take things out of it, not put things in to it? Either way, it's a pretty design, based on "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue".
Next is, and I'm using this word a lot today: apparently, a tea towel. It's not exactly normal tea towel material. It's more like a teeny tiny bath towel. It's inspired by "Light from Uncommon Stars". The design doesn't really make me want to read the book.
The next item is a weekly planner. It's inspired by "Violet Made of Thorns". I didn't like the book, but I love the design! It's one of those pads where you rip off a page for a week. I don't know if I'll get any use out of it, but I'll try!
Last, but not least, the calendar! I've been hotly anticipating this, as we need a wall calendar for work. Last year's calendar also came from Illumicrate, but was unfortunately a little spicy, so we had to stick post-it notes over some of the pictures! This one features 12 fictional locations from different books, and it's been much more popular with the ladies in the office!
Not a bad way to finish the year, this was quite a decent box.

☀️ SUNDAY SHELFIE ☀️
+ bookish habits tag
[instagram]
This is probably the last full shelfie I’ll take with my shelves looking exactly like this! My dad’s going to be building me some new ones (if we can actually get the materials lmao) cos I am overflowing, so there’s a rearrange in my future!
☀️ Genre’s I stay away from:
I don’t specifically steer clear of any genre’s but I don’t read much nonfiction and haven’t picked up poetry (aside from a novel in verse) since high school.
☀️ Worst reading habit:
Probably that I’m pretty quick to DNF. The book doesn’t even have to be bad for me. Sometimes I just couldn’t be bothered finishing a book that’d probably end up 3 stars 😂
☀️ Do you read the synopsis?
Sometimes. Often I’ll read a synopsis, add the book to my wishlist (or request an arc) and by the time I get to reading it, I’ll have forgot the synopsis and I don’t bother giving myself a refresher. I trust past me’s judgement.
☀️ Currently reading:
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
☀️ Do you read used books?
Heck yeah. Used books are great. I love picking up bargains in charity stores and I buy them online occasionally too (though the cost of postage usually makes it not worth it so usually only local)
☀️ Books I’ll always recommend:
- The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
- Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
- Loveless by Alice Oseman
- Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
- A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall
- The Many Half-Lived Lives of Sam Sylvester by Maya MacGregor
- Voyage of the Damned by Frances White
- The Principle of Moments by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson
