He Sang Little Joe The Wrangler

I've loved this poem all my life, but I'm only now understanding why I loved it o much as a child. It's exquisitely written, the descriptions are incredible and vivid, and it's also whump.

Man vs Nature - the story of a cowboy who gets caught in a wildfire with his horse. It's terrifying and brilliantly done. There's such incredible descriptions of panic, some life-saving cleverness, and some absolutely stunning caretaking as he calms his horse and keeps him safe through the chaos.

tw for possible death, burning, broken bones, and and animal (horse) gets injured.

I'd let you just read it, but I've never been table to find this poem in writing, and it's also vastly more effective if you can hear his voice. The delivery is key. I'm so incredibly sorry it's not more accessible.

loved the new chapter! i really enjoy getting glimpses into the weirder shit jane sees with her job mainly all the animals lol. from possums, raccoons, turtles, cats and now geese, those insights to her animal shenanigans are always hilarious and i absolutely love them

Thank you so much anon! 😂 I really enjoy writing the weird shit her job brings her across, too! When I was planning out how her job would work, I realized pretty quick that A. she'd be finding a lot of lost pets including exotic ones and B. Even when she wasn't finding pets, she'd be bumping into weird animals fairly often while crawling around looking for stuff people dropped cause, well, that's where a lot of them hang out. It's this bizarre intersection of 'It just makes sense for the story' and 'Oh hey a weird niche thing (odd animals) I have experience with!'

I'm really happy people seem to like it, cause I love slipping those moments in. 😅

The original Bob Dylan song that Val used (unfortunately Val's version has never been released 😭)
