Many scientists are working to find ways to help people age better and stay healthier as they get older. One new study has shown that combining glycine and NAC could be beneficial for many areas of cardiometabolic health (1). Before diving into the details of the study, here’s what they’re capable of individually…
Glycine and NAC Benefits
Glycine: Not Just a Regular Amino Acid
People often think of Glycine as a common amino acid, but it does many things for our health:
Better Sleep: Glycine can help us sleep better and deeper possibly by playing a role in how the body cools itself, which helps us fall asleep (2; 3; 4). Glycine is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter on its own, and it may work as a precursor to GABA, a neurotransmitter that also promotes relaxed activities in the body (5).
Collagen Synthesis: Glycine is a part of collagen, which is important for our skin, healing wounds, and keeping our joints and muscles strong. Glycine supports collagen formation in the body (6).
Mood Support: Because glycine is inhibitory to the brain and nervous system, it may help balance out the excitatory activity of glutamate and other neurotransmitters – leading to a more balanced mood, and potentially less anxiety (7).
Metabolic Health: Glycine is not only deficient in those that are obese or insulin resistant, it can help regulate blood sugar levels (8; 9). Because of its role in collagen formation, a glycine deficiency can make it more difficult for tissues to heal from damage caused by high blood sugar.
Digestion: Glycine is a relaxing neurotransmitter and can help aid in “rest and digest” body functions. Glycine aids in the production of bile salts, which help us digest food better and play roles in detoxification (10).
Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Emerging research hints at glycine’s potential anti-inflammatory properties, which could have broad implications, from managing “hallmarks” of aging, as well as chronic inflammation and auto-immune disorders (11). This may be related to its connection with glutathione synthesis, in which NAC is a precursor as well.
N-Acetylcysteine (NAC): A Broad Spectrum of Benefits
N-Acetylcysteine, commonly referred to as NAC, has a storied history in the scientific community, not only for its role when combined with glycine but also for its individual merits.
Antioxidant Powerhouse: NAC is good at fighting against damage in our cells (12; 13). It helps make an important “master antioxidant” called glutathione which fights harmful substances in our body (14).
Mucolytic Agent: Traditionally, NAC has been used as a mucolytic agent, assisting in breaking down mucus in the airways (15) This may make it a valuable tool in managing conditions like chronic bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, or helping out with a stuffed nose (16; 17).
Neuroprotective Qualities: Like Glycine, NAC might help protect the brain. Studies suggest that NAC may have neuroprotective effects. It has been explored in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, with some research suggesting its potential to slow down cognitive decline (18).
Mental Health: An exciting avenue of research has been the use of NAC in managing certain psychiatric conditions and substance use disorders. Preliminary results indicate potential benefits for mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, schizophrenia, and even helping with addiction (19). The potential combined effects of glycine and NAC might be even more interesting in this regard.
Liver Protection: NAC is occasionally used in the medical setting for acetaminophen (example: Tylenol) overdose due to its liver-protective properties. It can aid in replenishing glutathione, essential for neutralizing the harmful byproducts of acetaminophen metabolism (20). It’s found in many liver support formulas. NAC is one of my top choices for liver health and everyday wellness.
New Study on Glycine and NAC Benefits
The study looked at how Glycine and NAC (together called GlyNAC) affected signs of aging. 36 people took part. They looked at various health measures like oxidative stress and insulin resistance to blood pressure and body composition.
The research design was a randomized controlled study, where participants were administered either GlyNAC at a dose of 100 mg/kg/day or a placebo (alanine) at 200 mg/kg/day. The older adults underwent the regimen for 16 weeks, whereas the younger group for 2 weeks.
Assessments ranged from physical function tests, such as walking speed and grip strength, to markers indicating inflammation and oxidative stress. Additionally, they looked at body composition.
Key Outcomes of the Glycine and NAC Study
After 16 weeks of GlyNAC supplementation, older adults had:
A significant rise in glutathione levels, soaring up by 164%
A remarkable reduction in oxidative stress indicators, with a main marker improved by 72%.
Improved physical function was evident from improved gait speed, grip strength, and sitting-to-standing test results.
A 78% spike in fat-burning activity of the mitochondria.
A considerable improvement in insulin resistance by 64%
Beneficial changes in inflammation markers (drop in IL-6, TNF-alpha, sICAM1, sVCAM1, and CRP), and a rise in anti-inflammatory IL-10.
Decreased waist size and blood pressure
Interestingly, many of the older adults in the study reached levels seen in the younger adults.
Improvements spanned a broad spectrum, from cardiometabolic health to physical function making the combined supplementation an exciting area of clinical nutrition.

🌱 Ingredient Spotlight: Asparagus!
SHARE this with a friend 🥰
Eaten raw, juiced, or cooked, this vegetable is high in: essential minerals like zinc and selenium and vitamins like A, K and folate. They have active plant constituent compounds that help break up oxalic acid crystals, contain an amino acid that help relieve the body from poor digestion or exhaustion, are high in an antioxidant called glutathione, contain inulin which feed good gut bacteria, and have a good amount of healthy fiber and plant protein.
🟩 Asparagus comes in various colors though green is the most common. Green and purple asparagus are a variety of asparagus. White asparagus is made from blocking asparagus from the sun by piling soil on top of the emerging spears. Some people think white asparagus is not healthy to eat because of this, but we cannot confirm nor deny. 😉 BTW purple asparagus turns green when cooked.
Tumblr media
❓ Did you know? They take nearly 3 years from planted as a seed to when they are ready to harvest! 🪴 Asparagus grown from seed result in a 50/50 mix of male and female plants. The flowers look slightly different between the two and the female plants produce a red berry. The production of this berry diverts energy from the plant though, making the female plant less productive per acre. That is why commercial asparagus are genetic male clones for better production yield.
🏹 Fun fact: The emperor Caesar Augustus would bark “Velocius quam asparagi conquantur!” or “Faster than cooking asparagus,” which can be loosely translated as, “Get going already!” Augustus was such a connoisseur of the elegant vegetable, he organized elite military units to procure it for him. The famed Asparagus Fleets made rounds in the empire to import the best varietals back to Rome, while the fastest runners were employed to carry fresh spears high in the Alps, where it could be frozen for later use.

How bad is colorism in the Philippines?
Disclaimer before I continue: I was born in the Philippines and lived there until I was 8. my family immigrated to the US after and I've lived here since then - I've been back home once because my family unfortunately can't afford regular visits :(
That being said, my parents have done their absolute best to keep me fluent in tagalog, knowing of current events and the culture. I keep in contact with family members and I keep up to date the best I can with whats happening back there. And despite there not being many Filipinos where we live, my parents have always tried to find ways for us to be involved with the Fil-Am Community.
So this perspective is coming from a Fil-Am and my experiences, and it would also be good to ask someone who was born and lives there for their current experience as well!
-
Colorism in the Philippines is similar to a lot of countries in Asia. Light skin is put on a pedestal and having it can give you more opportunities, especially in getting a job. Whitening products are openly advertised, glutathione a popular method. When I lived there as a kid I was often told not to stay out in the sun too long so I don't get dark (As someone who is naturally tanned, I get dark very easily).
Most popular actors and actresses are light skinned or what's called mestiza/o (tisay and tisoy). They're also usually mixed with White. Proximity to whiteness is often heralded when you're trying to pursue a career in show business.
Even my mom and a lot of other Fil-Am carry this mindset here. While a lot of younger Fil-Ams have shed it, a lot of older folks will still spew colorist beliefs. How they stay out of the sun, use umbrellas in the summertime. My mom still buys whitening soap and is "careful" not to get too dark when we go to the beach. This undoubtedly lol messed with me a lot as a young self hating Filipino growing up in America.
This is also tied to the fact that White Western cultures are viewed as superior to our own.
Thats what happens after 300 years of colonization.
On the bright side, there's been more people with platforms both in the Philippines and Filipinos in other countries who have pushed back on this mindset! Educating people on the history of it and why darker skinned Filipinos shouldn't be ashamed of their natural skin color. There's also more actors and actresses who are openly saying they're not using whitening products because they are proud of their darker skin, which is great. I hope the conversations are pushed to the front even more and we as a people continue to talk about it.
Again, as a Fil-Am this is coming from my perspective and experience. I don't look to overstep people who live there, so it's also important to ask them!

When it comes to blockbuster movies, the magic of the big screen relies not only on an engaging storyline and exceptional acting but also on the visual appeal of the characters. As such, actors and actresses often go to great lengths to ensure their appearance is top-notch. The cast of the highly anticipated movie "Barbie," led by the talented Margot Robbie, is no exception. In preparation for their roles, the cast followed a comprehensive skin-health protocol that combined cutting-edge skincare treatments, advanced technology, and liver-supporting supplements. In this article, we'll delve into the methods they used to achieve radiant and flawless skin, giving us a glimpse into the secrets of their on-screen glow.
Understanding the Importance of Skincare
Before diving into the specifics of the skin-health protocol, it is essential to acknowledge the significance of a proper skincare regimen. Skincare forms the foundation for healthy and radiant skin, and actors, like anyone else, must maintain a consistent routine to ensure their skin is well-nourished, hydrated, and protected.
Skincare Treatments and Tech
a) Professional Facials: The cast of "Barbie" received regular professional facials to target specific skin concerns and promote overall skin health. These facials included deep cleansing, exfoliation, and specialized masks to rejuvenate and tighten the skin.
b) Laser Treatments: Advanced laser treatments were utilized to address various skin issues such as fine lines, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. Laser therapies work by stimulating collagen production, resulting in firmer and more even-toned skin.

Liver-Supporting Supplements
The skin-health protocol for "Barbie" went beyond topical treatments and delved into the importance of internal health. The cast incorporated liver-supporting supplements to promote overall well-being, as the liver plays a crucial role in detoxification and maintaining skin health.
a) Milk Thistle: Known for its potent antioxidant properties, milk thistle aids in liver detoxification and helps clear toxins from the body, which can contribute to a clearer complexion.
b) N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC): NAC is an amino acid that supports the body's production of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that plays a vital role in liver function and cellular health.
c) Turmeric: With its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric assists in reducing skin redness and promoting a healthy glow.
d) Vitamin E: As an antioxidant, Vitamin E helps protect the skin from free radical damage and supports overall skin health.
A Balanced Diet and Hydration
In addition to supplements, the cast of "Barbie" maintained a balanced diet to nourish their skin from within. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats provides essential vitamins and nutrients that contribute to a radiant complexion. Staying hydrated is also crucial for maintaining plump, youthful-looking skin.
Achieving flawless skin for the silver screen requires dedication, time, and an effective skin-health protocol. The cast of "Barbie," led by the talented Margot Robbie, embraced a comprehensive approach that combined professional skincare treatments, advanced technology, liver-supporting supplements, and a balanced diet. By prioritizing their skin's health, they not only looked stunning on camera but also demonstrated the importance of self-care and overall well-being. As fans are in awe with "Barbie," we can marvel at the dedication of the cast, both on and off the screen.

The mask is made with 100% cotton and is designed to be "featherlight" and adhere to the contours of your face for optimal absorption. There's lots of essence and the mask is saturated. After using, it's important to point out, this mask does have artificial and natural fragrances. And in fact, the only irritant in the ingredients is fragrance. Due to the level of betaine, I found this mask to be very moisturizing and nourishing, it was also quite refreshing and the quality is very nice. Slightly nicer than their Real Squeeze mask series. The fragrance is in my opinion pretty standard so I feel that if you have used a mask with that scent without issue then using something similar won't be a problem. I didn't notice any irritation or discomfort, I thought the mask was comfortable. I'd recommend this to anyone with dry skin and to people with aging skin.
What I like: this mask is really moisturizing and really nourishing, it really does a good job of taking care of my skin without irritation. I think it's suitable for people with dry skin and aging skin. There are many good ingredients and few irritants. What I don't like: fragrance.
Pros:
Moisturizing
Hydrating
Nourishing
Refreshing
Nice ingredient list
Comfortable
Cons:

Is Glutafine  face wash suitable for all skin types? Glutafine face wash is a product that contains a combination of skin-lightening and antioxidant ingredients. Glutathione, one of the key ingredients in the face wash, is an antioxidant that helps to reduce oxidative stress in the skin. It also helps to lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation by inhibiting the production of melanin. Vitamin C and E are also powerful antioxidants that help to protect the skin from free radicals and environmental stressors. These ingredients also help to brighten the skin and improve overall skin tone. While Glutafine face wash claims to be suitable for all skin types, it's important to keep in mind that everyone's skin is unique and may react differently to certain ingredients. For those with normal skin types, the combination of skin-lightening and antioxidant ingredients may work well to improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. However, for those with dry skin, it's important to use the face wash in combination with a moisturizer to prevent stripping away natural oils and causing the skin to feel dry and tight. On the other hand, for those with oily skin, glutafine face wash may be beneficial in removing excess oil and impurities from the skin. For those with sensitive skin, it's recommended to do a patch test before using Glutafine face wash. The skin-lightening ingredients and fragrances in the product may cause irritation or allergic reactions. Overall, glutafine face wash may work well for those with normal to oily skin types, but it's essential to be cautious and monitor how your skin reacts to the product. As with any new product, it's important to follow the instructions for use and to discontinue use if you experience any adverse reactions.get your facewash very affortable price at cureka.com https://www.cureka.com/?s=+skin+brightening+cream+&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1 https://www.cureka.com/shop/skin-care/cleansers/face-wash-cleansers/ethicare-glutafine-ultra-rich-creamy-face-wash/

Women's Guide to Achieving Beautiful Skin with the Right Face Wash!
Achieving beautiful skin is a goal that every woman desires. While there are various ways to achieve this, the foundation of good skincare lies in choosing the right face wash.
When it comes to achieving beautiful skin, a proper skincare routine is crucial. One of the most important steps in any skincare routine is cleansing the face. This is where the right face wash comes in. However, with so many options available on the market, it can be overwhelming to choose the right one. In this blog, we will discuss the women's guide to achieving beautiful skin with the right face wash.
Tumblr media
Understand Your Skin Type:
The first step in choosing the right face wash is to understand your skin type. Women have different skin types - dry, oily, combination, sensitive, or normal. The right face wash for each skin type will vary.
For dry skin, a hydrating and gentle face wash is ideal, such as those with ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or aloe vera.
For oily skin, a face wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help reduce excess oil and prevent breakouts.
For combination skin, a mild, pH-balanced cleanser that doesn't strip the skin of natural oils is a good choice.
For sensitive skin, a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic face wash with gentle ingredients like oatmeal or chamomile can help soothe the skin.
And for normal skin, a mild, non-irritating face wash is suitable.
Taking care of our skin should be a part of our daily routine. However, finding a suitable face wash that addresses our skin type and concerns can be challenging. Lukewarm glutathione facewash has gained popularity due to its effectiveness on all skin types.
Read Labels Carefully:
Once you've identified your skin type, it's time to start reading labels. Look for face washes that are formulated with natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin. Avoid face washes that contain harsh chemicals, fragrances, or alcohol, as these can irritate the skin.
Some ingredients to look for in a face wash include:
Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for acne-prone skin
Glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or aloe vera for dry skin
Vitamin C or antioxidants for anti-aging benefits
Tea tree oil or witch hazel for oily skin
Chamomile or oatmeal for sensitive skin
Lukewarm Facewash incorporates the unique ingredient, glutathione, which shields the skin from harm caused by toxins, UV rays, and other environmental elements. This face wash blends glutathione's antioxidant properties with organic ingredients such as Turmeric, vitamin C, and vitamin E. As a result, it brightens the skin tone, minimizes irritation, and effectively removes impurities.
Consider Your Lifestyle :
Another factor to consider when choosing the right face wash is your lifestyle. If you're someone who wears a lot of makeup, you'll need a face wash that can effectively remove all traces of makeup without stripping your skin of its natural oils. If you exercise regularly, a face wash that can remove sweat and impurities is ideal.
If you live in a city with high pollution levels, a face wash with antioxidants can help protect your skin from damage caused by environmental pollutants.
Lukewarm Glutathione Facewash is a gentle and effective cleanser suitable for all skin types. It works by removing dead skin cells, promoting overall skin health and appearance, and is gentle enough for delicate skin. If you're considering incorporating a new exfoliant into your beauty routine, try lukewarm glutathione facewash for consistent and excellent results.
In conclusion, achieving beautiful skin requires a consistent skincare routine, and the right face wash plays a significant role in that routine. By understanding your skin type, reading labels carefully, and considering your lifestyle, you can choose a face wash that is perfect for your needs. Remember to be patient and give your skin time to adjust to a new product before expecting results. With the right face wash, you can achieve healthy, glowing, and beautiful skin.

What Is NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) Supplement?
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a synthetic form of cysteine, which is a semi-essential amino acid. Once consumed, NAC breaks down into cysteine, which is then metabolized to glutathione. Glutathione is an important antioxidant for the immune system functioning, detoxification, tissue building and repair.
NAC Benefits Health
There are several health claims surrounding the use of NAC supplements. Some of these claims suggest improved mental health, protection against certain viruses, and relief from respiratory symptoms, although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hasn’t approved many of them.
Low levels of glutathione are linked to numerous health conditions, such as aging-related issues, diabetes, and heart disease. Therefore, glutathione supplementation is often recommended to prevent or treat diseases. NAC is frequently used as a precursor to glutathione as it can help achieve higher glutathione levels. However, while NAC is associated with numerous health benefits, many of these claims lack sufficient evidence from human-based research.
Tumblr media
NAC is a commonly used, and FDA-approved drug for treating acetaminophen poisoning. Large doses of acetaminophen can cause liver damage, and prompt administration of NAC is essential as it can reduce the extent of liver damage by increasing glutathione levels, which is a powerful detoxifier in the liver.
There is evidence to suggest that NAC may help treat certain respiratory conditions, such as chronic bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This is because NAC can break apart and thin mucus secretions in the airways, which makes it easier to clear the airway through coughing.
Preliminary evidence also suggests that NAC may improve certain mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, more research is required to determine the effectiveness of NAC in treating these conditions.
Some research suggests that NAC may improve brain health and help reduce symptoms associated with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It may also help relieve neuropathic pain caused by central nervous system damage.
NAC supplements may also offer some benefits for people struggling with viral infections. Research suggests NAC works against viral infections by boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation, and preventing the replication of viruses.
Some studies suggest that NAC may help improve sperm quality and reduce oxidative stress in infertile men. It may also have the potential to help slow the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Potential Adverse Effects of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)
N-Acetylcysteine, commonly known as NAC, is generally considered a safe supplement. However, some individuals may experience side effects when taking NAC.
The most common adverse effects of NAC include gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, low blood pressure, anaphylactic reactions such as a rash, swelling, tightness in the chest, or difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, dizziness, or lightheadedness.
Although most of the side effects of NAC are mild, the supplement may not be suitable for everyone. People with specific medical conditions should avoid taking NAC. Individuals with cystinuria, a rare kidney stone condition, or a bleeding disorder should not take NAC. If you are aware of being allergic to NAC, you should also avoid taking it.
Furthermore, high doses of NAC can potentially elevate the levels of homocysteine, an amino acid linked to heart disease, warns Dr. Liu. Therefore, it is essential to speak with your doctor before taking NAC, especially if you have any underlying health concerns or are taking other medications.
According to Dr. Johnson-Arbor, you should tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter products, prescription drugs, and dietary supplements. Your doctor can evaluate your medication regimen for potential side effects and check your medication list to ensure that you are not at risk of experiencing drug-to-drug interactions.
It's also important to choose a reputable brand when purchasing NAC supplements. As dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA for safety or effectiveness, it's essential to conduct research and choose a brand that includes high-quality ingredients. One way to ensure the quality of the supplement is to opt for a brand that has been verified through the US Pharmacopoeial (USP) Convention Dietary Supplement Verification Program, indicating that the supplement has undergone third-party testing.
In conclusion, N-Acetylcysteine may provide numerous health benefits, but it's crucial to talk with your doctor before adding NAC to your regimen to ensure that the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

These Two Nutrients UNLEASH Mitochondrial Energy. Mitochondria produce ATP. The energy currency of the cell and melatonin and glutathione are responsible for the uncoupling of mitochindria. This allows ATP to transmit properly and be utilized to Its fullest capacity. Glutathione also supports liver health strongly. Vitamin C and Sulfur rich foods help your liver to produce Glutathione. Melatonin is an important sleep hormone but also antioxidant. 😴 You can get melatonin naturally occurring in foods from pistachios and tart cherries 🍒 #Mitochondrial #Mitochondria #atp #energy #biohacking #biohacker #vitality #melatonin #glutathione #vitaminc #sulfur #antioxidants #food #diet #nutrition #sleep #energyreserves #boostenergy #fyp #wellbeing #wellness #strong #training #trainer #fitness #muscle (at Minneapolis, Minnesota) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckd_sH5uV0_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

BLUE LIGHT AND FREE RADICAL DAMAGE TO THE SKIN
Have you ever imagined how often during the day you look at your mobile device, work at your computer and watch TV? On average, an active, modern social person looks at a mobile phone screen about 150 times. Each of these devices emits blue light that penetrates deep into the skin, permanently damaging it and promoting aging. The damage to the skin is devastating – collagen and extracellular matrix are degraded, which results in deep wrinkles, the skin becomes dry and dehydrated, its elasticity is lost, and the biological functions of the skin – barrier function, receptor functions, thermoregulatory and aesthetic functions – weaken.
We know very well the damage to the skin caused by UV radiation and try to protect it by using SPF protective filters, but do we protect the skin from blue light!?
What is blue light or HEF and how does it harm the skin?
HEF is high-energy visible light, also called blue light, whose wavelength is between 400 and 500 nm and the damage caused by blue light is similar to that caused by UVA radiation. Blue light triggers biochemical processes in the skin known as oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is an imbalance in the skin between the total amount of free radicals and antioxidants – the result is the accumulation of free radicals, which changes cellular DNA and can cause serious changes in skin quality, and even the development of diseases. Blue light increases the skin’s sensitivity to hyperpigmentation through oxidative stress, resulting in pigment spots. It is important to remember that blue light can penetrate (act) deeper into the skin, and dermis and cause longer and stronger damage to the skin.
Oxidative stress is caused by blue light and its effect on skin quality and aesthetic function.  Oxidative stress affects collagen biosynthesis by involving matrix metalloproteinases that degrade collagen. In addition, small fragments of collagen block the synthesis of new collagen. It is an essential component of the skin aging process. Premature skin aging is associated with structural changes in the skin:- skin becomes thinner;- functional skin condition weakens;- the skin is unable to perform its normal, biological functions, i.e., barrier function, immune function, receptor function, and thermoregulatory function. Basically, free radicals or reactive oxygen species are xenobiotic degradation products and metabolites. Xenobiotics include medicines, cosmetics, chemicals, synthetic vitamins, and dietary components. Latent inflammation caused by free radicals due to blue light accumulates inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1 and IL-6, as well as activates matrix metalloproteases (MMPs), which directly damage the skin’s collagen fibres and weaken the skin’s tone. The skin has its own antioxidant system that helps to fight oxidative stress and existing free radicals, mainly glutathione and carotenoids. Because we often use devices that emit blue light (mobile phones, tablets, computers), as well as there are many additional external factors, such as UV light, polluted external environment and air, the skin is rapidly depleting its endogenous resources, and we need extra protection. Melanocytes in cutaneous epidermal cells form pigment accumulation, which is provoked by blue light. This pigmentation can be divided into two types: early grey pigments, which are slightly greyish and form immediately after exposure to blue light, and deep (late) pigment accumulation, which occurs after prolonged exposure for weeks.
Photodamaged skin is characterized not only by skin depigmentation, dark and light skin patches, and uneven skin tone but also by changes in skin quality – the skin becomes dry and dehydrated, wrinkles appear, and its elasticity is lost.  The topicality of the problem of blue light and photoaging is related to the fact that the functional condition of the skin deteriorates – the biological functions of the skin – barrier function, receptor functions, thermoregulatory and aesthetic functions – weaken. Clinical signs of photoaging include dry skin, decreased skin elasticity, the appearance of wrinkles and creases, skin peeling, skin discoloration, and pigmentation disorders.
Signs of photoaging:- “Age” spots or pigmented areas on the skin caused by an increased number of pigment cells (melanocytes) in the epidermis as a result of UV radiation;- Deep wrinkles on the skin;- Yellowing of the skin;- Thickened skin;- Appearance of blood capillaries on the skin;- Dryness and desquamation.   Protecting your skin from blue light is very important. Special products protect the skin from the aggressive effects of blue light and reduce the risks of hyperpigmentation, melasma, and photoaging.
Skin and circadian rhythm is important to note that the skin lives in its own circadian rhythm, which is in sync with our body and the environmental circadian rhythms. This means that if we use devices that actively emit blue light in the evenings and at night, these circadian rhythms of the skin are desynchronized. The skin is at increased risk of diseases and chronic inflammation, including dermatitis, psoriasis, future acute photoreactions, and skin malignancies. The skin under the blue light exposure considers that it is day and loses the ability to biologically regenerate, which must be physiologically happening at night. In this way, the skin does not “repair” the damage caused during the day.
HOW DOES BLUE LIGHT DAMAGE YOUR SKIN?- Accumulation of free radicals in the skin;- Increased oxidative stress;- Damages DNA in cells;- Reduces collagen synthesis and increases its degradation;- Accelerates skin aging;- Increases the risks of hyperpigmentation;- Stimulates latent inflammation of the skin;- Increases the risk of skin diseases;- Reduces skin immunity.
How to protect the skin from Blue Light? Local or topical protection is a must-have and very important when working with a computer for a longer time or if you use your phone often. Protecting your skin from blue light should be part of your daily skincare routine.- UV filters can also help in the fight against blue light, including titanium dioxide and iron oxide which are considered the gold standard for protection against blue light.- Niacinamide or vitamin B3 – can reduce the risk of hyperpigmnetis and strengthen the immune system.- It is important to check the antioxidants in your cream or day protection fluid, which not only protect against skin damage caused by oxidative stress but also help the skin to regenerate and perform its basic functions effectively. One such antioxidant is vitamin E, which serves as a strong free radical scavenger.
Hypersensitive skin, such as problematic and skin with rosacea, melasma patients, skin prone to hyperpigmentation should be treated with special attention. In such cases, you should definitely have UVB/UVA radiation filters in your cream and fluid formulations, but also get sure that it protects and strengthens the skin in the fight against the blue light spectrum (HEF).
MARENCE has created a blue light protection fluid that helps protect the skin from the negative effects of blue light. The active ingredient – Carotolino (containing carotenoids) – acts as a shield and effectively protects the facial skin from premature aging, as well as reduces the oxidative stress of the skin and gives it a healthy and radiant complexion. Beta-carotene, vitamins A, C, E, and K and goji berry extract act as powerful antioxidants and the skin is effectively protected from free radicals. MARENCE’s specially developed Freshwater Green Mud Extract enriches the skin with micro and macro elements, amino acids, and vitamins. Avocado oil and Shea butter moisturize, soften, and improve skin elasticity. Wild carrot seed oil and carrot root extract give the skin a healthy and radiant tone. Among the active ingredients with proven effectiveness in relieving oxidative stress in skin cells caused by blue radiation is a complex of oils and natural extracts:
– Wild carrot seed oil – the oil contains beta-carotene and vitamin A, which help prevent and reduce the signs of aging, as well as vitamins E and K, phytosterols. This ingredient has strong antioxidant properties and promotes skin regeneration and deep rejuvenation of skin cells.- Carrot root extract – is a plant ingredient with antioxidant and conditioning properties. Carrot root extract is obtained by soaking carrots in sunflower or olive oil, which pulls out and dissolves the soluble components. The extract is rich in beta-carotene (provitamin A) and contains several antioxidants, including vitamin C and vitamin E.- Beta carotene. There are hundreds of carotenoids, including lycopene and lutein. When applied topically, beta-carotene is one of the strongest antioxidants.- Sunflower seed oil, which contains an average of 60% linoleic acid, helps to regenerate, strengthen, and soothe the skin. This oil also contains other valuable fatty acids needed for radiant skin, including oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearin, and small amounts of omega-3 linolenic acid.- Goji berry extract – a well-known antioxidant, softens the skin.
