World Wildlife Day
The World is full of amazing creatures from every possible medium. From the birds of the air to the majestic whales of the sea, wildlife abounds in the most unusual and unexpected places. Wildlife benefits us in many ways and has since timed out of mind. World Wildlife Day is a day to remind us of our responsibilities to our world and the lifeforms we share it with.
Even though we might like to think so sometimes, humans aren’t the only living things on Earth. In fact, we’re far outnumbered by other living things, from animals and plants to fungi and bacteria. Wildlife isn’t just something that we passively observe; it’s part of our world, and something we need to care for. World Wildlife Day is your chance to celebrate all wildlife, from the smallest insect to blue whales. No matter what you love about wildlife, you can spend the day taking action to help protect it.
This day is all about raising awareness of wild flora and fauna across the world. Whether you love animals, you’re passionate about plants, or you’re concerned about climate change, it’s the day that you can use to educate yourself or others. You can celebrate the incredible biodiversity across the world and perhaps get out there to explore the huge range of flora and fauna the world has to offer. Celebrating World Wildlife Day is a must for anyone who loves our planet.
History of World Wildlife Day
On March 3rd, 1973 the United Nations General Assembly took a stand to protect Endangered Species throughout the world. Whether plant or animal, the importance of these species in every area of human life, from culinary to medical, could not be understated. At this time hundreds of endangered species were being threatened every year, and extinction was at a staggeringly high rate. CITES was put into place (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) to ensure that the world did not continue to hemorrhage species that would never be seen from again.
On December 20th, 2013 another step was taken to help spread awareness of the fragility of endangered species in the world. At its 68th session, the UN declared that each year World Wildlife Day would be dedicated to a new purpose and idea to help keep people abreast of the changing nature of our world, and the treasures we stand to lose from the animal and plant kingdom if we don’t take care.
Sometimes the day highlights an endangered animal or group of animals, while in other years, it has focused on a specific issue affecting the world of wildlife. Previous themes have included getting serious about wildlife crime and listening to young voices. World Wildlife Day is implemented by the CITES Secretariat, working together with relevant UN organizations. The day might not have been around for long compared to some others, but it’s already made a big impact. If you are passionate about the Earth and everything on it, celebrating is a must.
World Wildlife Day Timeline
1900 First wildlife conservation act is passed in the US
The Lacey Game and Wild Birds Preservation and Disposition Act is passed by Congress, which is the first legislation of its kind in the United States.
1948 International Union for Conservation of Nature begins
This is the first effort toward conservation that is supported by governments and societal organizations globally and its purpose is to encourage cooperation and the sharing of resources regarding conservation.
1961 World Wildlife Federation is established
A group of individuals who are passionate about protecting endangered species and places bands together to secure funding to this end.
1973 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
Negotiated in Washington DC, CITES is an international agreement between governments to protect the survival of various wild species by ensuring that trade does not threaten them. The signing takes place on March 3.
2013 First World Wildlife Day is celebrated
At its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declares March 3 as the day to raise awareness and and celebrate the wild animals all over the world.
How to Celebrate World Wildlife Day
You can celebrate World Wildlife Day on your own or with others, whether you just want to spend some time contemplating the majesty of nature or you want to spread the word about just how amazing the world’s wildlife is and how we can protect it.
The first thing that always comes to mind when we think about World Wildlife Day is heading out to our local zoo or botanical conservatory and reminding ourselves of the vast variety of life our world offers. If you have children, this can be one of the best ways to really introduce them to the wonders of the animal and plant kingdom. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, an outdoor excursion with a book of local flora and fauna (That’s plants and animals) can help make that connection come even closer to home.
You could also spend the day spreading the word about the importance of our wildlife. If you love our planet, what better way to celebrate everything on it than to encourage other people to care about it too? You might create an event, get people to sponsor you or create some education materials. Choose a cause that matters to you, whether it is a local one or an international wildlife issue that you want to highlight.
Another way you can get involved is finding out what this year’s theme is by stopping by www.wildlifeday.org and finding ways to get involved. The website has a map of events that you can search to discover things to do near you, or you could add your own event to encourage others to get involved too. You can find a range of useful materials on the site too, including posters, logos, a social media kit, and a special action card that you can use to take photos. You can find suggestions for World Wildlife Day hashtags to use on social media or any materials that you create for your event too. Some of their suggestions for getting involved include running a competition, engaging with influencers, celebrities and politicians, and showing your appreciation for those who help to conserve wildlife every day.
There are few things as important as making sure that the world’s biosphere remains healthy, every time we lose a plant or animal, we have no way of knowing if a cure for a disease or some new medical breakthrough was lost with them. World Wildlife Day is your opportunity to do your part in preserving our world.

I should have known if I brought up wc I’d have to talk about. But it includes of a lot of issues with feral/furry designs that use feathers in hair. I don’t necessarily know why the conversation only started and stayed in the wc fandom when horse/wolf/lion feral fandoms are still doing the same thing.
Now having feathers in the design isn’t a racial attack first thing off because there’s a lot of context around what feather’s are used, the shape, and where they are placed. If the look is anything like "rave Coachella looking tribal fantasy feathers and beads" it’s probably insensitive. I’m not to sure why it has to be feathers, I honestly think the wc fandom are holding themselves back when it comes to forwarding designs in a unique way. Tail feathers are also left out in this conversation as well, one or two feathers or feathers in the shape of a birds tail are fine but bunched together feathers are leaning to close to how we have our horses wear feathers. This is in the context of the design already looking like a "medicine cat" already its bad. it’s like those yt girls wear feather head bands but animal addition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve talked about this before but silhouettes are so important, like Native American stereotypes are on the global scale you cannot escape this silhouette you just have to avoid it. There’s no "but it’s in so many other cultures" no it’s not it’s totally unique to our people that’s why people flock to it because it’s so "mysterious, sacred" whatever their weird twisted up reason is. There’s so many unique ways to break this silhouette you just gotta be more creative. And I feel like instead of being more creative and coming up with totally different ideas it’s just easier to lean on these visual native stereotypes to get across "wild mythical nature fantasy"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could get into the horse fandom and the weird situations they’re doing over there but that’s another crazy thing. I should say because someone will ask, ostrich feathers on like show horses or knights or puss in boots style is fine not the same thing (breaking the silhouette) they’re not related.
And it comes down to understanding what you are drawing and where this imagery comes from, I’m not gonna get my feelings hurt because of your design but I’ll question why are you drawing stuff like that. You cant remove that cultural/stereotypical imagery, and if you don’t care about it then you don’t care about the history or how it looks on your character and art.
I made it this far on the internet but if you want to be conscious about these things good on yea it doesn’t take much☺️👍
Edit: can’t believe I gotta say this but yes other cultures utilize feathers, if people are using feathers that are used in their culture then don’t harass them. That’s weird have some common sense. Ostrich feathers, peacock feathers it’s actually so interesting how native birds to an area affect the culture there.

Neglecting my 373829927299 wips, my tasks, my errands, my fucked up sleep schedule, my life in general, because I am obsessed with this new wip I have:
More tribal warrior!Sylus, but make it childhood friends/arranged marriage/soulmates AU-flavored. This is my new ✨need✨, please enable me, I'd already written 4.6K words and that's only like 1/3 of the story I'd envisioned
(other things in the story to consider: light breeding kink, definite pregnancy kink, body worship.....just worshiping in general, because my other current obsession is Sylus being grossly in love with you and this fic is lowkey just him being "my wife ❤ I will worship the ground my wife walks on ❤ I will worship the air she breathes ❤ she can kick my ass idgaf because she does it so prettily ❤")
As you returned to the village, nightfall had already descended. You and Sylus had ridden back in silence, the awkward atmosphere only worsening with each passing minute. Sylus had kept an arm protectively around your waist the entire time while his other hand held the rein. You looked down, eyes following the horse’s hooves as he trotted back. “We’re almost back,” Sylus’ soft voice broke through the tensed atmosphere. You looked up, seeing the huts that lined the outskirt of the village and your mare quietly grazing in the distance. You wriggled a little, but that only made Sylus tightened his hold. You looked down at his arm around you and you said softly, “Let me down. I can walk back.” “No,” he answered. “Sylus—" He suddenly yanked the rein, forcing the horse to turn around in a different direction. “Sylus?!” you looked up panicked, not expecting this sudden change in pacing. Sylus’ sight remained ahead, and your heart sped up at the sight of seeing his handsome face from this angle, bathed only in moonlight. Sylus commanded his horse skillfully and you both rode atop the stallion at a brisk pace. The cool night breeze brushed against your cheeks, drying your earlier tears. You even found yourself starting to smile and laugh, the adrenaline taking over. Eventually, Sylus took you back to the village once he had seen that you had calmed down. The horses were returned to their stable. You turned just as Sylus handed you the saddlebag. You looked up surprised. “They mean nothing to me,” he said resolutely, “Burn them.” “I’m not going to…” He stroked your cheek with the back of his hand. “I’d never meant to make you upset or have you cried like that, nor did I mean to make you jealous…” “I wasn’t jea—” He leaned down and kissed your lips, silencing you. You dropped the saddlebag, the pouches spilling out on the ground. “Sy—” He lifted you into his arms and you looked up in surprise. “What are you—" He carried you out of the stable before letting you down again. You looked at him exasperatedly. “You always do what you want—this is not fair…” “What’s not fair?” “It’s not fair…how…I’m the only one…feeling insecure…” In the village square, you could hear the celebration dying down as people started making their way home. The bonfire in the center still blazed brightly. “You are right,” Sylus responded, “I don’t feel insecure.” Your shoulders slumped and you kept your eyes lowered. You suddenly felt Sylus’ finger under your chin, tilting it up so your eyes met his. “You were promised to me,” he said, hushed, “And I to you.” He kissed you. “We are meant to be, and were we not, I would rewrite the stars, to change the course of destiny and weave a new tapestry of fate to make you mine.” His forehead pressed to yours. “My love,” he held his gaze with yours, “There is only you…no one else.” He kissed you again, and the last remnants of your jealousy and hurt faded away. Just you.

The Siberian Ice Maiden, known locally as the Princess of Ukok (Russian: Принце́сса Уко́ка), the Altai Princess (Russian: Алтайская принцесса), Devochka ("Girl") is a mummy of a woman from the 5th century BC, discovered in 1993 in a kurgan belonging to one of the Pazyryk burials, in the Republic of Altai, Russia.
She is famous for her tribal animal-style tattoos, which consist of creatures with horns that evolved into floral shapes. The local Altai people believe her to have supernatural powers and that the Ukok Plateau where she was found is the "second layer of heaven.”
Her head was shaved and she wore a wig and a tall hat, a long silk robe, a red wool skirt, and was 167cm tall. She was most likely a shaman or healer who had taken a vow of celibacy, as her body was used by her tribe in rituals up to three months after her death and she was determined to have inhaled cannabis vapor while alive.
She had been suffering from breast cancer that killed her in about three years, combined with injuries sustained in a fall.
She was buried with food such as horse meat, mutton, yogurt, coriander seeds and a beverage, which her tribe left her to sustain her on her journey to the afterlife. Her coffin was made of a larch wood tree trunk.

*Pylenor (first pic) was a centaur wounded by Heracles Hydra poison-tipped arrows, he managed to survive by washing his wound in the river Anigrus. From then on, the river was tainted, always having a very peculiar, nasty odor.
I got a brain bug last week to draw a certain centaur, and then my inner horse girl came back from the grave and I ended up drawing a bunch of them.
Taking inspiration from tribal societies and wild horse herd dynamics for those man/beast vibes.

Learning that one of the effects of microdoses of Astartes blood is that it prolongs a regular human’s life is very interesting. It makes me think about Astartes specifically giving a human some of his blood so that they’ll live longer.
An Astartes, an Apothecarion specifically because they can better monitor the effects of their blood and administer it to a regular human, giving small doses of blood to their unaware human companion. It can range from some blood slipped into their everyday coffee or administered by needle with the excuse of it being a booster shot, all of it done in the pursuit of granting you a longer life. He has a particular fondness for you so why shouldn’t you live longer, there is a whole bunch of worthless nobles exceeding their natural lifespan with rejuvenate treatment, so why not his favourite human? Your time together shouldn’t be limited by your frail biology, not when there are means to work around that inconvenient reality. He wants your company, he wants you by his side, he want to see your smile and not have to contemplate just how much longer he‘ll be able to see such a sight. Sure, giving you his blood causes you to become quite ill, but it’ll pass with time, he’s just guaranteeing that you and him will have all the more time to be with one another.
I saved this because I wanted to write for it, and I think I went a little crazy because this was just supposed to be a short drabble.

Working as an Apothecarion’s human hand came with many benefits: a comfortable bed, high-quality food, and constant companionship amongst them. It was a stark difference from your time as a serf in the Imperial Palace. The Astartes that came and went rarely paid you any heed then, but now they were downright respectful of your place. Akoghlanlar's ‘assistant’.
You’ve learned that the White Scars had a civility to their barbarism that legions like the Space Wolves lacked. Their savagery in battle didn’t translate over into downtime. They knew when to be ferocious, and ferocious they could certainly be— razing the battlefield like incarnates of lightning itself— but outside of the hunt they were shockingly tranquil. Importance was placed upon calm discipline.
The Akoghlanlar had found you during one of the Great Khan’s visits to Terra, shuttling resources to and from the Swordstorm. You had entered his domain, and each time you returned with more supplies, you felt his eyes on you. Always watching, ever observant.
The ‘adoption’ (if you could call it that) into the White Scars had come as a surprise, and you’re still not even sure if it had actually happened in an official capacity, or if the son of the Khan had simply decided right then and there that you were his. The Apothecary, who you would come to know as Sarei, simply handed you a cloth bag containing a uniform too large for you. Confused, you were notified that you would be staying aboard the ship. The event still baffles you to this day.
Compared to Terra, working for the Fifth was far more eventful. The tribal nature of the White Scars made them wary of your presence on the ship as you traveled around, but for the most part, everyone respected your place beside the Akoghlanlar. Sensing your apprehension, Sarei made a point to deliver your meals to you himself. The act was out of the ordinary, but you weren’t the type to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Over time, you morphed from what felt like a pet into someone you could actually call useful. You were far too small to help Sarei in most of his endeavors, especially repairing his colossal Dreadnought brothers, so the majority of your tasks revolved around cleaning, maintaining stock, and accounting for resources used. It was only when Sarei was asked by one of his brothers to look over his personal serf that you had truly found your niche.
It was outside of Sarei’s duties as Akoghlanlar to aid baselines, but you had recognized the symptoms of a pregnancy immediately. Nausea, breast tenderness, cravings, fatigue, and most damning, lack of menstruation. The sons of the Khan had been surprised when you spoke it aloud. The poor serf was not.
You had wisely chosen not to ask any questions.
Since, you’ve become the unofficial go-to for the marines aboard the ship when their personal serfs had any troubles. Sarei sourced books on baselines from other medicare, and you started the thirty year journey that landed you where you are.
“I feel like I’ve been seeing you here forever,” an older serf mentioned one day. You had been patching up her arm after she received a sprain from overuse, warning her to let the astartes do the heavy lifting.
“I feel like I’ve been here forever,” you comment, massaging the swollen forearm of your client, “I’ll be turning fifty soon.”
She gave you a smile, but there was something about it that irked you. “You look really good for fifty.”
You would have accepted the compliment for what it was, if not for the tense furrow in her brow or flicker of doubt on her face. You play it off with a practiced shrug. After placing her arm into a sling, you sit back and let your patient go, politely waving her off.
Her words didn’t sit right with you, putting a voice to something you had long been wondering yourself, and for days you mulled them over. You caught yourself staring at your reflection from time to time. At most you would place yourself as mid-thirties, but even that had felt like a stretch. Other serfs your age had been slowing down, joints aching and skin less elastic. They began to struggle with their day to day tasks.
But you remained spritely.
Today feels no different, standing before a vanity wash station. You run a finger down the skin of your cheek, feeling the texture of the pores and light dusting of hair.  The face in the mirror is nearly unblemished by time. Fifty years, and yet you’ve barely even begun to develop crow’s feet. You shake your head. You really shouldn’t be so concerned with your seemingly superb genetics; you should be grateful you have them in the first place.
Sarei returns to the bay with your lunch, frowning when he sees you staring at yourself again. “Despite your efforts, you will never catch it blinking,” he rumbles, placing the tray of food down onto your human-sized table.
You huff a laugh and turn to look at him. Thirty years haven’t changed the Akoghlanlar at all; astartes aged gracefully. The lightning bolt scar on his face is the same deep shade of bronze, brown eyes as sharp as ever. The same wrinkles that had been there since the day he found you are present, never deepening. The only change you can find in him is that his tamed beard has grown longer.
A growl interrupts your thoughts, and you place a hand over your stomach, walking over to the table to sit and eat. The smell of the meat called to you. Sarei watches thoughtfully, wrapping his palm in gauze.
“Did something happen on your way over?” you inquire, gesturing to his hand as you take the first bite.
Sarei shakes his head. “An old wound that refuses to remain closed.”
You nod and focus your attention on your meal, making sure to get as much gravy as you possibly can on each bite of the tender roast. It helped to mask the iron tang of the gamey meat.
The Akoghlanlar smiles at you fondly, then turns away to look over the accounts of the legion’s gene stock. He cleans off his sidearm as he does so, removing the traces of his blood from the blade. It pleased him to see his assistant looking so well.
He would tell you why some day, but for now he was simply glad you wouldn’t perish like the last.

Women warriors in Chinese history - Part 1
“In the nomadic tribes of the foreign princesses from the Steppes northwest to the northeast of the Chinese borders, women habitually rode horses and were frequently also skilled militarily. They had to be able to survive on their own and defend themselves when their men left camp to herd animals for months on end. Thus, unsurprisingly, many daughters of nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal chiefs were also capable fighters. Madam Pan 潘夫人 of “barbarian origins” during the Wei dynasty, the semi-barbarian Princess Pingyang 平陽公主 who helped establish the Tang dynasty, and the “barbarian queen,” Empress Dowager Xiao, are historical examples of this category of female generals.
While the barbarians to the north were known as fan 番, those belonging to peripheral areas from the southwest to the southeast were known as man 蠻. Like the nomadic princesses, these women of non-Chinese or Chinese ethnic minority groups did not bind their feet and could thus become formidable opponents. Indeed, the female battle units within the Taiping 太平 rebel forces that actually entered combat – rather than merely providing labour as most of the female units did –were reportedly made up in the main of women from the Miao 苗 tribes, aside from the Hakka (Kejia 客家) women of Guangxi.
Female bandit leaders or daughters and sisters of bandit leaders who occupied mountains or established strongholds in marginal lands are almost indistinguishable from the man barbarian princesses of tribal chieftains in novels and shadow plays. Such barbarian women generals and female bandit leaders were rarely privileged enough to be recorded by the historians. The three found most frequently, Madam Xi 洗夫人 (502– 557), Madam Washi 瓦氏夫人 (1498–1557),95 and Madam Xu 許夫人 (1271–1368), were all pro-Chinese. While the first two cooperated with the Chinese government, the third joined Chinese forces against the Mongols. A certain Zhejie 折節 or Shejie 蛇節, a female leader of the Miao tribe, also led a rebellion against Mongol troupes, but she eventually surrendered to them and was subsequently executed.
Real enemies of the Chinese empire, such as the Trv’vy sisters of Vietnam, are hardly ever mentioned by the Chinese, even though they are first recorded in the Han dynastic history. Even under such circumstances, of the women commanders in Chinese history studied by Xiaolin Li, a hefty per cent were from “minor nationalities.”
Female rebel leaders and women warriors in rebel forces tended to rise from peasantry and marginal groups such as families of itinerant performers, robbers, boatmen, and hunters. Many of them are beautiful and charismatic. Most of the rebel groups were basically bandits (known as haohan 好漢, “bravos” euphemistically) – how else could they have survived without a continuous source of income? Many of the bandit groups, like the sworn brothers of the Water Margin, lived in mountains and marshlands, awaiting a chance to start or join in an uprising with the hope of gaining power and legitimacy through either pardon (when they posed too great a threat to the state) or founding a new dynasty. Many had sisters, wives, or daughters who were also capable of leading armies.”

I once had a Maro dream that we were playing horse shoes, but instead of the horseshoes themselves, it was gigantic centipedes.
Maro, what is your opinion on bugs? Can we get some insect tribal toys?
I’m sure we’ll find a world where Insects make sense as a core component.

World Wildlife Conservation Day
The sad truth is that the world’s best loved, beautiful and fascinating species are being slaughtered by widespread and dangerous criminal networks that will stop at nothing to get what they want. And what they want are animal parts and products that for reasons no sane person really understands, are worth lots of money.
There are plenty of synthetic substitutes for things like ivory and fur that don’t require the brutal slaughter of an animal to obtain, not to mention how hard it actually is to tell the difference between high-quality synthetic substitutes and the real thing. And do you mean to tell me no other dish in the world tastes as good as shark fin soup, and that we really have to mutilate live sharks and then throw them back into the ocean to die? Long story short, there is simply no excuse for the amount of animals being poached every year.
And yet they are. In 2011 alone, for example, there were 13 large-scale seizures of ivory, and over 23 tons of ivory confiscated, which is equivalent to at least 2,500 elephants. A 2010 United Nations report suggests that gorillas could disappear altogether from large parts of the Congo Basin by the mid-2020s.

And it is not just the animals that are suffering. Park rangers get killed on a regular basis by poachers they’re trying to stop, and the local economies of entire towns and villages suffer terrible damage once enough wildlife is wiped out to make them irrelevant as wildlife tourism destinations. Corruption and intimidation are weakening law enforcement efforts. Unscreened wildlife and wildlife parts increase the risk of human health pandemics such as bird flu. Everyone involved is suffering.
History of World Wildlife Conservation Day
A call to action was put out by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2012 to raise awareness and engage conservationists on Wildlife Conservation Day, December 4.
During the “Wildlife Trafficking and Conservation: A Call to Action” event held at the State Department on November 8th 2012, Secretary Clinton outlined the White House’s strategy to address the global problem of wildlife trafficking. These efforts are estimated to cost between $7 and $10 billion dollars a year.
“Wildlife cannot be manufactured. And once it’s gone, it cannot be replenished. Those who profit from it illegally are not just undermining our borders and our economies, they are truly stealing from the next generation,” she said.
How to Celebrate World Wildlife Conservation Day
Raise awareness and contribute to the conservation and protection of endangered species such as elephants, rhinos and tigers on World Wildlife Conservation Day’s website.
This global occasion provides everyone with the opportunity to learn more about wildlife conservation and to be part of the solution to wildlife crime. Go online and join the thousands of other individuals who have taken the wildlife pledge.
Promise to learn more about wildlife conservation, to spread the word about the importance of protecting our plane’ts most endangered species and the impact of poaching on our environment. Learn how to become a responsible consumer in order to stop illicit wildlife trade.
You can also take direct action by making a charitable donation to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). 100% of all donations go towards training and equipping the rangers who are the wildlife protectors, and often the only thing standing between a baby tiger or elephant and a poacher.
