Thinking about RWBY as my hyperfixation wears off and I think, as with all fairy tales, there’s a moral, of course. And I think RWBY’s is this:
“You are who you choose to be.”
Blake chose not to be the monster.
Adam chose to be the monster.
Weiss chose not to be like her father.
Jacques chose to be a miserly weasel to the end.
Raven chose not to be a mother. Summer chose to be Yang’s mother. And Yang chose to be the mom Ruby couldn’t have.
Qrow chose to be a drunk and bitter.
Emerald chose to be a bad guy, but she also chose to leave that behind when confronted about it.
Ironwood chose to be a bad guy and doubled-down when confronted about it.
Penny chose to be more human than most and chose to die a hero.
Cinder chose to let her past define her and to lash out against the world.
Trivia chose to become Neopolitan and again chose to become someone else when she realized that wasn’t who she needed to be.
Ruby was forced to be the hero before she was ready but chose to be that hero even when given an out.
Ozma chose to be the white knight, believing himself to be the only one able to save the world.
Salem chose to be the witch, looking to destroy the world.
I think, truly, no one is beyond redemption if they truly want it and are willing to work for it. We’re all victims of circumstance, but we choose our paths and who we are. We can blame the world for our problems, but we should never let our problems define us. You choose who you want to be.

The way Neo gets her perfectly orchestrated revenge and then just…collapses. Because she spent so long blaming Ruby for all her grief, loss and failures, because she really thought revenge would help…and then it was worth nothing.
Like, Neo was so despicable this chapter. It was easy to hate her when she dedicated her time to torturing Ruby in the most painful ways possible. But then it’s over and she’s just…hollow.
We see it in the photos in the house:
First her parents, then Torchwick, then Cinder. Neo always had someone to lean on, even if they were also controlling or manipulative (true of 2/3).
But now? In the Ever After? Neo is well and truly alone, even with her semblance. Unlike baby Trivia, she doesn’t even have that imaginary friend Neo to lean on.
And because of that, the cat tore her apart.

Trivia stared back at the carbon copy of her, surprised while Neo just looked smugly at her.
Jaune: I think this desert heat is getting to me...are their two of you? Are you using your semblance?
Trivia just shook her head as Neo rolled her eyes.
Jaune: Ooh Kay. so what do I call the other... you?
Neo gave Jaune a sultry look and signed.
Neo: 'You can call me anything you want'
Trivia went wide-eyed at her double.
Jaune just blushed.
Jaune: Well... Trivia is Trivia, and Neo is Neo, so I'll just leave it at Neo, okay?
Neo shrugged, not caring in the slightest what she was called.
Jaune: So...what do we do about uh... your twin here?
Trivia wasn't so sure if her semblance didn't cause it, then how is she here?
Trivia: 'Let's get out of this desert heat first before we figure out what we're going to do with her'.
Neo just smirked but made no objections in fact...
Jaune: Sounds good - woah!
Jaune couldn't do anything more, and Trivia watched with a twitch in her eyes as Neo climbed up onto Jaune's shoulders and sat their content.
Jaune: Uumm.
Jaune didn't want to say anything as he felt Neo's thighs smushed his cheeks.
Trivia just wanted to rip her other self down from their, to make Jaune comfortable, of course, not because SHE wanted to be the one sitting their. Nope. No, no.
Jaune: I guess we're on our way...to wherever.
Trivia just glared at her other self, who kept the smug smile on her face.
It was going to be a long day.
