Leona loves pushing your buttons, and today was no different, he started the day getting in your way and dragging you to the greenhouse to nap. You didn’t WANT to rage a nap or go there.

Crewel was upset you skipped class and thank to Leona you now had extra work and what was his response?

Try to make you nap again and when you yelled at him and trued to leave, he first blocked the door, but you instantly tried to duck under his arm.

He lifted you up by your shirt and held you there. You were so frustrated you decided to make him drop so you could run. You swung your foot back and Aimee between his legs.

Leona

He jumped embarrassingly enough, but he did let go of you! And you ran and was out of his sight before he even realized what happened

He’s more impressed that you did that, given his most people avoid arguments, but you just hit him in the balls and ran, he knows you are upset with him so…

He waits almost an entire week before testing his luck and springing you again. You still weren’t happy but he was being stupid and said you should apologize

He instantly left and waited another week before apologizing. He also informs you you are more intimidating when mad.

Ruggie

He just stares in confusion fir a second, Leona knows you get mad about this shit, that you would beat his ass if he got you in trouble once more.

And then he does this and he honestly isn’t even upset With you and straight up goes to you to check if your ok, given Leani dropped you and you clearly hit stuff while trying to catch yourself!

Ruggie dosent steal from you for a month thinking you’re gonna be more on edge around him since he’s always with Leona

He pushes Leona into apologizing since he can sense the anger radiating off you when Leona approaches

He’s in complete shock at first. He wants to scold you, check on Leona and figure out what just happened all at the same time

He does say Leona, deserved it you shouldn’t have done it. (He does literally apologize on Leona’s behalf and talks to him over how he did have it coming)

He honestly treats you like you were hurt, I mean he’s seen you upset and you’ve never kicked anyone so…maybe leona was being a big bitch-

He’s extra friendly to you afterwards for a while. He lets you feel his ears and tail to help cheer you up!

BRIDGERTON S3 P2 SPOILERS

(Idk if there is any other way of indicating them, so please excuse my ignorance if there is.)

AHHHHHHHH,

They introduced Michaela INSTEAD OF MICHAEL, THE WAY I SCREAMED AND GASPED. I cannot fucking wait for their season, the way Francesca was already tongue tied!

And they mentioned the Masquerade ball so for sure the next season is Benedict's (FINALLLYYY AHAHHHH)

To be honest I was living more for Eloise and Penelope's re-friendship than POLIN scenes, love me some tru and good and supportive women friendships!!!!!!

I honestly did not like the queen's involvement in Penelope's uncovering (so to say) and in fact I had loved the novel's ending more, but it was a good season.

However, the show makers keeping Colin unaware till after he proposed was kinda a shitty thing on their part I feel, as far as I remember in the novels he already knew about Penelope being Lady Whistledown, and while knowing all that he proposed to her, here all this added lies and deception was a bit annoying but it's fine I guess, show needs bit more drama than the novel?

Also, Colin suggesting that they pay Cressida was the most annoying part for the season for me, as compared to his reaction in the novel.

Love that 2 of the 8 Bridgerton kids (atleast till now) are queer.

Also idk if it's just me, but how do these people just miss their own siblings' weddings?😭 But anyway must have been scheduling or availability issues for Jonathan and Simone.

All in all a good part, but now I am just more excited about the new season and it's probably 2 years away. :/

I apologise for my incoherent thoughts, but idk anyone irl who has read the novels and has watched the show, hence my excitement to chatter about it where I could!

7. we always used to have sleepovers as children, why would it be weird now?

Fresh off their win over the empire, Luke decided to tie up any loose ends before devoting the rest of his days to the Jedi order, or, what was left of it. Time was no longer his enemy, after all. Squeezing Leia’s hand goodbye, he climbed into his X-Wing, accompanied by R2, and set off in the direction of his old home, Tattooine. It had been years since his feet left the sandy surface for the first, and for a while he thought, the last time. There were many moments when he didn’t know if he would ever make it back, or if he even wanted to. But with the handsome pay he had received for his services, he knew the honorable thing to do was to make sure there was no animosity there towards his aunt and uncle. They had worked hard to provide for him his whole life, and he wanted to make sure they could truly rest in peace with no debts to be owed.

With a solemn heart, he descended into the dusty atmosphere, and landed gently on one of the countless sand dunes he had grown to loathe and miss simultaneously.

R2 beeped at him curtly as they made their way into town.

“I’m sorry, buddy. I promise. I clean out your tracks real well when this is done.”

You sound just like your father, he beeped back, and a boyish grin flashed across Luke’s face.

Luke stopped by several shops at the local market in search of clearing his uncle’s name. Most of the keepers were glad to see him, while some seemed indifferent or even skeptical of his return. The black glove covering his right hand drew a lot of eyes towards him as it stood out like an ink spot in an otherwise beige world. Hushed whispers and pointed fingers in his direction piled on as people caught sight of the saber hanging from his hip. He felt no animosity in the force though, they were just curious. He was happy to be the talk of the town for the next few days. He recalled how excited he had been as a child to catch whispers of Jedi and star pilots passing through their town.

After making a few small payments and accepting condolences paired with sincere handshakes, his business was done. When he ducked out of the last hut and started heading further away from the ship, R2 beeped a question at him.

“I just wanna see an old friend before we leave,” he called over his shoulder as the droid followed dutifully along.

Luke hoped you would be home. He asked around to see if you had a shift at the diner tonight, but got mixed answers. You lived in a small house just outside of the main town wall. It took no more than a few minutes to walk there. As the suns set, the air quickly turned from a blinding heat to a heavy chill. Pulling his hood up to keep the wind out of his wisping bangs, he stopped at your door, hesitating before knocking. There was smoke rising from the chimney and warm light spilling from the windows, so he knew you were home. But what if you didn’t want to see him. What if you weren’t alone. What if—

His thoughts were interrupted as you peeked through the crack in the door before swinging it open eagerly.

“Luke!” you called out as you threw your arms around him in a tight hug, “Oh, maker, I didn’t think I would ever see you again.”

“Boy do I have some stories to tell you,” he grinned.

“Won’t you come in for dinner? I was just about to set the table,” you urged, stepping out of the way to allow him room to duck through the doorway.

He let his hood drop from his head as he swept off his cloak in one motion and hung it neatly on the hook by the door. Your heart gave a kick as you thought about your things hanging next to his, how normal and natural it looked.

“There’s been talk all over of you joining the rebellion, blowing up the Death Star, fighting the sith! Is it true?” you asked eagerly, clasping his hand in yours and drawing him towards the kitchen. He took a deep inhale of the steam wafting from the pot on the stove.

“You know I’ll tell you everything, but can we eat first?” he smiled.

The two of you sat cozy at the small table nestled beneath a window as you listened to him talk about star ships and lightsabers and far off planets. You noticed the strain of his shoulders beneath his shirt, the way his brow sat a little heavier, the scars littered on his skin and tried to take in the fact that this was no longer the boy you grew up chasing womp rats with, the boy you whispered with all through school, giggling until you got caught. You hoped he didn’t notice your gaze lingering on the pout of his lips as he filled your house with laughter and stories of bravery in a way it hadn’t been since he disappeared. For so long, you were afraid he had died in the blaze that claimed the lives of Owen and Beru. You couldn’t think about living in a world without those blue eyes twinkling in the moonlight while the two of you were out way too late. It wasn’t until you had heard from several different people that they had spotted him in Mos Eisley that your heart was able to rest again. But oh, how it ached in his absence, how it was so full to the brim with hope for him that it became a very heavy thing to carry around.

At some point in the evening, your hand traveled across the table to rest on top of his, needing to feel his warmth to convince yourself that this wasn’t all just a beautiful dream. He noticed your eyes starting to look bleary as the moon was starting to descend in the sky.

“You’re tired. I should go,” he said quickly, withdrawing his hand from your grasp.

“No, no, you can stay. I’ll just set up a bed on the sofa,” you assured him, gathering up the bowls and spoons and carrying them to the sink.

“You don’t have to set up a whole other bed. We’ve had sleepovers before,” he teased, nudging your shoulder.

Before, you thought. Before you sprung up like a weed and were a whole head taller than me. Before you disappeared and turned my life into a whirlwind of worry.

But then something else inside of you overpowered the apprehension, a desire for closeness. You thought that, maybe if you heard him breathing right across from you, maybe if you felt his shared warmth under your threadbare quilt your heart could finally rest.

“I still sleep on the right,” you smiled.

“And I still snore.”

“I’m glad some things haven’t changed.”

The two of you took turns freshening up before climbing under the covers. Your bed felt much bigger when the two of you were much younger. It felt like his face was only inches from yours. Luke melted into your mattress like a bed was a luxury he had longed for, his blue eyes closing as soon as his head hit the pillow.

He looked so peaceful, you didn’t want to disturb him. A tentative hand rose to brush his hair back from his forehead, “I was so worried about you.”

“I know,” he breathed back, eyes still closed. His hand rose to meet yours, and he rested it against your cheek, “I’m here now. Please sleep.”

You weren’t sure if it was some kind of Jedi mind trickery or what, but when his fingers laced with yours, peace flooded in, making every limb heavy and a warmth radiate through you, deep from inside your bones. With one deep exhale, your eyes shut too, as you breathed out a lifetime of longing. You weren’t sure what the morning held for you, but for right now, you were beside the person you cared for the most in the galaxy.

X is RPG Maker style stream, and is the origin of the start of this story. It was released on June 5th 2023, on his 18433rd birthday. It also has an itchio page, the description claiming this is an original project currently in development. It follows the story of a young boy named X who yearns for love and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it.

Summary:

An unknown voice narrates, saying he doesn’t remember how long it’s been. Also says he’s lost count of something

Immediately after he asks: “..I’ve lost count? About what?”

A spotlight flashes on, shining down on a figure looking somewhat similar to Flayon

Notably looks younger, wearing what looks like a school sweatshirt, color palette is completely black, same hairstyle and overall looks the same, just younger and without his antenna tail

Says the only thing he remembers is love, and how he really wants it

“I’ve heard about it so many times, yet I still can’t figure it out.”

Believes that you can’t be whole or “you” without it

While continuing the tangent about love, the figure, X, speaks aloud:

“Need… I need it? What’s that supposed to mean?” “Am I nothing without it..?”

Asks something, or someone, what they mean and:

“I deserve love too, yeah..?”

Explains that “they” won’t stop talking about it (love)

The following text appears:

“We love you.” “You mean so much to us.”

Continuing, white text appears on the screen:

“He’s a genius.” “Talent.” “Amazing!” “You’re set for life.” “Genius.” “You’ll go far.”

During all this, a white silhouette of X appears in front of the original, surrounded with what looks like slumps of black matter?

The word “LOVE” appears on screen a few times, then ends with X appearing in front of the screen.

His eyes look very swirled compared to Flayon’s and wears a blank, almost neutral expression

Believes that in order to be loved, he needs to be special

“I want… to be loved more than anyone else. A whole lot!” “And to do that…! I just have to be special. Special like no one else!”

Then cuts to X drawing on a canvas, then to him performing/singing to the same slumps of matter as before. The slumps soon disappear into the background (these slumps are assumed to be represent people)

A different voice speaks, explaining X’s grades, possibly his teacher

Cuts back to X facing the audience, saying that some things didn’t work out for him

Before he can say what the worst of it was, it cuts to X talking(?) to someone

?: “…Why do you keep talking like that?” ?: “You need to stop treating yourself like that. It’s…” “No, you don’t understand, I just wanted to…”

?: “What’s wrong with you…” “..?”

?: “Hey, you’re not a bad guy, it’s…”

“Hah, haha.” “HAHAHAHAHAHA!” “It makes sense. I’m a complete failure in every sense of the word!” “Someone like me who’s just a burden to everyone around them!”

The screen cuts to black, X claiming that he doesn’t know when he started thinking so negatively

“One day, these thoughts just started to fill my head.” “Now I noticed that… my mind was off. …Or, at least people told me.”

The screen cuts back to X staring at us again, now a mini R-TRUS standing behind him. The white silhouette of X is back as well, walking back and forth behind the mini R-TRUS

X claims that he doesn’t know what to do, and thought he had everything figured out

Says everything hurt a lot at first because he:

“really wanted to…” [be loved?]

Says the thoughts continued, but tried to convince himself that it’s alright

“I may not be special, but that’s alright…”

Says: “I’ll just.. live my life the way I…” before being interrupted by himself speaking

“After a while, I just didn’t… care anymore.” “I was just going to go on living like usual…”

Claims that even if he’s not special like everyone else, it’s fine. He’s alright with living like this

X turns around, now taking notice of the mini R-TRUS. The silhouette now facing him as well.

“..You’re…” “When I met that thing…” “You.. How are…”

X then engages another confrontation with an unknown voice.

?: “Are you really fine with living like this?” “…Huh?”

[When I met that thing…]

?: “If you were really fine, you wouldn’t be putting on an act.”

[My life got a whole lot happier.]

“Listen… Things just aren’t in the cards for someone like me, haha.” “It’s okay. I just wasn’t born with any real skill!” ?: “How convenient.” “…” “Not the ones that matter to me, anyway.”

[Much, much, much happier.]

(Suddenly, the screen flashes and shakes for a small moment.)

“Don’t worry.” “Your other skills are currently… preoccupied.”

[Extremely happy.]

(The screen shakes and flashes again, this time another silhouette duplicating.)

“…” “…” “..Huh?”

[But, before that…]

[I wish I never even saw it.]

The screen fades to black soon after, a single textbox appearing with the letter “X” in the middle

After a few seconds, a different scene appears. The background is now red static with X and his silhouette standing face to face. There are no more text boxes in this scene, just text flashing on the screen

The silhouette speaks first:

“I think everyone is special…!” “I think everyone is special.”

X from then on speaks:

“I am and always will be a problem.” “So…” “Why do all of you people…” “..get to have things I don’t?” “I couldn’t stand it. Why did it have to be you?”

(X’s face flashes on the screen.)

“So I decided… what’s yours is mine.” “…Hey.” “It’s that time of the year again.” (X’s face flashes on the screen again, this time with a manic smile.) “Happy Birthday.”

In Vampire Chronicles Vampire Blood Is NOT An Addictive Drug 

The idea that vampire Blood is physically addictive is not vampire chronicles canon and is not vampire chronicles canon compliant. 

Riceian Vampire Blood does have intense healing qualities and is used to heal injured and sick humans and other vampire.

In vampire chronicles canon drinking vampire blood or applying it topically results in healing. 

Drinking it results in intense sexual pleasure, smoother more pale skin, and enhanced senses- even a bit of psychic senses after years of frequently drinking it. 

In VC, drinking a vampire's Blood has a slight bonding effect- a fraction of the bond between maker/fledgling. It is subtextually used by Pandora and Arjun to ensure the loyalty of their servants in PANDORA. I does not seem to wear off- shown subtextually in BAG by Raymond Gallent's continued loyalty to Marius at age 80, after receiving a single blood kiss at age 20. 

Repeated blood exchange between a vampire and mortal lover causes the vampire to be affected by the bond as well, shown subtextually with Armand/Daniel in TQOTD and Marius/Armand in TVA and BAG.

It's spoken of by David Talbot in MERRICK- he indicates that repeated "little drinks" alone also cause the same mutual effect.

""I wanted her. I knew that even the smallest drink of her blood would prove too risky for me utterly; I’d feel I possessed her after that, and she, in spite of all her seeming innocence on the matter, might well find herself my slave. Elder vampires had warned me on just about every aspect of what could happen to me. And Armand and Lestat had both been adamant that the “little drink” must not be conceived of as harmless""  -David in MERRICK.

This is the only time the phenomena is directly addressed in text in all of VC, and clearly the intent has nothing to do with 'addictive drugs' but rather a bonding effect native to vampires as a species. 

A similar bond is subtextually suggested to happen between vampires who bloodshare, even when not maker/fledgling, in several VC volumes.

In TQOTD Daniel is an alcohol addict and Baby Jenks is a heroin addict. In the TV show Daniel has been a drug addict- the drug he names "black tar" is a type of heroin. No other 'drug' substances are mentioned being used to get high nor is any other type of addiction mentioned anywhere in any VC text.

At no point in any VC books nor VC adaptation is the idea of vampire Blood as a "drug" or "addictive" presented in any way whatsoever. 

No character in VC is ever textually nor subtextually using vampire Blood as a 'drug' or seeking it out for such use. 

No character in VC is ever textually nor subtextually physically addicted to drinking vampire Blood.

Addictive vampire Blood is an against-text headcanon that was fanwanked into some corners of VC fandom years after the series originally ended with BLOOD CANTICLE. 

It seems to have come directly from Tru Blood canon and gained traction in VC fanfic written while Tru Blood was on TV. 

The fact that in 2014's PRINCE LESTAT there is textually an entire cottage industry of vamps selling the Dark Gift and still no mention whatsoever of anyone ever selling or giving vampire Blood as a 'drug' or any human ever using it as a 'drug to get high on' definitively ruled out any possibility of Riceian vampire Blood as a 'drug' ever being anything but an against-text headcanon in VC.

There is nothing wrong with against-text headcanons. Against-text headcanons can be a true joy and very meaningful to a person. Everyone's headcanon may vary and that's OK. Transformative fandom thrives on against-text headcanon. 

The idea of addictive vampire Blood is an against-text headcanon of The Vampire Chronicles. Vampires have many powers over humans. This is NOT one of them and going into reading these books believing that it is compromises understanding of the text.

Day One Hundred

100 days in!

Up early this morning in the corner of a field up the hill from Polruan, it's a very foggy start to today. The bike lights are switched on, and onwards we go.

There's understandably little to see as I head around the quiet country lanes, with visibility down to less than 100 metres, but the early start means the lanes are nice and quiet as I track my way east.

As the sun begins to climb into the sky, the fog recedes a little to allow a bit of a view of the road ahead, which throws hill after hill at me as Cornwall refuses to let me go quietly.

Down a big descent and I drop into the port town of Looe, which is beginning to get busy with the bustle of the day starting.

Across the bridge and past the train station and it's another tremendous hill to push up, and with the temperature beginning to rise it's a very hard start to the day.

It's on to another set of steep climbs and plunging descents as the route carries on east, with more high hedgerows making for limited views as the sun starts to burn off more of the cloud cover.

I do get a few snatches of terrific sights along the cliffs, with their bases shrouded in mist still.

Up another tough climb past Tregantle Fort and there's a view down the hills to just catch a glimpse of buildings in the distance through the remaining mist.

More heavy work in the rising temperatures continues around the countryside hills and up another high climb past Maker I get a spectacular view across the land far below. The mist has finally lifted and the historic port of Plymouth is spread before me.

It's a speedy zoom down from the hill to the dock at Cremyll where it's time to jump onto another ferry and head into the city proper.

I have a good chat with a couple of other cyclists aboard, and get a recommendation for a local bike shop, which after landing at the docks I head round to. Another generous tip from the awesome @danieldddddddda should make this fit in the budget!

The folk at Bikespace in Plymouth are excellent, and are able to sort a quick truing of the wheel which did have a bit of a kink in it after my encounter with the tree branch yesterday. Along with a fresh set of brake pads, I'm in a good state to push on again.

Plymouth has a pretty decent amount of cycle routes through the city, so I forge onwards up from Devonport and into the city centre, before dropping on to a great little trail out of traffic as it crosses the River Plym.

With the cycle path making good headway, I decide to stick with it as it heads along theough to Elburton.

Checking the map for the route ahead, the spiderwebs of backroads around here don't seem very appealing, so I decide to make the most of the easier navigation ahead and plough along on the A379 awhile to get some good mileage in.

Whilst Devon may not have Cornwall's spikey sharp climbs, it's still infamous for its long and constant hills, and as the road leads onwards it's a lot of very tough work on the legs to slog up and down. The sun overhead is beating down and I end up stopping at plenty of the towns along the road just to be able to take shelter from the rays, though the air temperature is still high and the morning's fog has left a great deal of humidity in the air.

I keep pushing onwards up one last big hill to have a final zoom down into the town of Kingsbridge, which has a convenient supermarket for me to stop off and resupply at as the evening starts to set in.

With all the tremendous effort of today, I think that will do for now despite the light left in the day! Time to have a look around for a place to lie up for the night.

I’m getting so close to done on the mock-up for Rhaenyra’s red dress, and I am so excited!

A few days ago I decided to try taking the mock-up in a little along each of the 10 seams, starting at the underbust and waist and high hip, and then easing out into just a slightly narrower skirt. Even just pinning it in made the whole thing look much better, so I decided it was worth it to re-sew the seams and see if I want to make the changes to the paper pattern.

I only took about 2mm in at the waist on each side of each panel, but multiplied by 20 (10 panels, 2mm each side) it’s actually a reduction of 4cm over all, which I was worried would be a bit too much but turned out to be pretty perfect. The high hip came in about 5mm at the seam line, and from there I just drew a straight line from the new waist measurement to the new high hip measurement and continued that line straight down to the floor. 

At the hem it works out to a reduction of about 62cm total -- spread evenly across all 10 panels of course -- which should leave me with a hem circumference of 245cm (~2.67 yards). It looks a lot more similar to the width of the skirt in the show-worn dress than it did before, and bringing in the torso helped the overall look quite a bit, too.

Once those adjustments were done, I was able to focus on just the few little places that still need a bit of tweaking. The lower curve of the back armscye needs to extend out a bit further than it currently does, and I want to pinch out just a liiiittle bit in the overbust area where the center front meets the side front. I think the center front shoulders are also sitting just a bit wider than I’d like them to, so I’m going to redraft that bit to be closer to vertical than it is now.

While I was doing all that pinning and marking, I got to the question of the neckline, which I had raised slightly when I redrafted the center front panel during all the bust adjustments a week or so ago. I just kind of eyeballed it based on the width of the trim and how low I thought the necklace would sit on me, but now-- 

Last month when I decided I was definitely for sure doing this cosplay, I went ahead and ordered the screen accurate necklace from the maker on Etsy, knowing that it was shipping from Italy and would take weeks to get here. I was kind of half-thinking of it as a birthday present to myself (along with the rest of the cosplay I guess, heh) and had resolved to not even open the package until my birthday. But it arrived yesterday! And so while doing adjustments today, I realized that I could try on the actual necklace and figure out if I need to make any changes to the neckline in this last round of edits before I move on to the silk fabric.

So even though there’s still about two weeks until my birthday, I went ahead and opened the cute little wrapping the necklace arrived in. The necklace itself is lovely, looks absolutely perfect in terms of screen-accurateness, and the chain is super long but I knew it would be, I’ll trim off the excess at some later point. I put it on and adjusted the chain length so it was sitting right below my collarbone. Then I pinned down the 1cm seam allowance at the front neckline (the final version will be getting an interfacing of silk organza cut on-grain to help support the weight of the trim+beading) and tried the dress on aaaand... It’s perfect. No edits necessary, lol. I could have waited another two weeks to try the necklace on, but I’m glad to know that the neckline doesn’t need to be higher or lower or anything. :D

So next up, I’m going to make those few small adjustments to the paper pattern -- bringing in the upper few inches of the center front so it’s more vertical and less off-the-shoulder; extending the back armscye by just a tiny bit; truing up the upper portion of the side front and side back where they meet the center front/back, so the shoulder seams lie the way I want them too; transferring all the taking in at the waist and skirt to the paper pattern; and then re-truing the skirt panels to make sure they’re all the same width again (I’ve come so far from trying to just draft them all at a 7° angle, lol).

And once all that is done, the paper pattern will be finished! Since these last changes are so minor relatively, I’m not going to re-cut any of the mock-up. The next step will be starting in on the underdress by tracing the pattern onto the black silk organza. If there are any last little changes I want to make based on how the underdress fits, I’ll have the chance to do it before starting on the outer layer.

I don’t have tracking info for the red silk fabric, but I expect it’ll arrive some time in the next week or so. My silk pins arrived today, the cotton thread in both red and black a couple of days ago, and the narrow trim that goes over the seams arrived on Monday. The only other thing I’m really still waiting to arrive is the 65/8 microtex machine needles I ordered, but I do have some 70/10 microtex that I used to sew a narrow zigzag on the cut edges of the organza before I washed it. The fabric still had holes in it after I took out those zigzag threads, but it didn’t snag or anything, so if I get antsy waiting for the 65/8s to arrive, I can try using the 70/10s. 

But I still have several steps to go before I’m ready to even do the stay-stitching on the black organza under layer, much less actually sew the seams. And this last week at work was weirdly slow, so I was able to squeeze in a little sewing/drafting/fitting here and there -- but I expect the next two weeks will be a lot busier. In all likelihood both the needles and the red fabric will arrive before I’ve got all the pattern pieces traced onto the black fabric.

Even just at the mock-up stage, it’s starting to look so much like Rhaenyra’s dress, and I am so excited, all I want to do is work on it and get it looking more and more like the real thing and uuuugghhhh. I’m well on track for getting it done in time for Dragon Con without any rushing, but knowing that I may not have much time to work on it for the next two weeks is definitely a sadness.

Progress on the Guitar Kit

The sanding and staining is done. I started with the neck and head, as less daunting. Dark oak on the head, forest green on the neck. For the neck, I rubbed it on and off fairly quickly and then put the dark oak over it, which gave a nice effect. And then ... the quilted maple top of the body before I lost my nerve. It's a very thin veneer. So, sanded, stained it dark oak, stained the sides and sort over the edge onto the back (the body, like the neck, is mahogany). Sanded the back to fade the dark in. Sanded the front down, nervously, because I enjoy sanding and that makes it way too easy to go too far on veneer. Once I was finally happy with that, I applied emerald stain to the front, using 0000 steel wool to rub it on and then rubbing with a dry cloth to even it and make sure I didn't get lap marks.

I hadn't been taping bits off, other than the fretboard, because I was finding that the tape was lifting splinters from the mahogany. Also, all the curves that fade into one another make deciding on edges tricky. I mostly wanted the two greens and the brown to fade into one another. However, I went over the edge onto the sides a bit with the emerald where I didn't want to, so once I was done the front and it had dried I did the sides with emerald and then went over that again with the oak, before doing the back with forest overtop the oak fade. It's not noticeable enough to be called a 'burst'. (And does one do bursts on the back? Well, why not, I mean, it's your guitar and you'll see the back, even if nobody else does.)

I find the Saman water-based stain does raise the grain, even though it says it doesn't, so after the first bit I did I took to wiping over the wood with a damp cloth and then giving it a final light sanding, just a touch, with 400, and that prevented that. Using 0000 steel wool to apply it, rubbing it around with a clean cloth after, made for a rich, dark colour and very even application. I had used a cloth on the neck, which made for a less saturated colour, but that was an effect I wanted there.

So, now the staining is all done and I need to glue it. Solo recommends gluing the neck before starting the finishing on set-necks, but I decided that handling it for sanding and staining was going to be easier in two pieces.

The plan is to use Tru-Oil as a finish, if I can get some. From what I can tell, it's mostly luthiers and guitar-kit makers who use it, and it's almost impossible to find in my deer-hunting province, so why do they even bother calling it gunstock oil? Call it guitar-oil and get Solo to carry it!

Rock Ridge Country Club: Photo Essay Overview

Rock Ridge Country Club, located in Newtown, CT, is a private country club ideal for families which boasts several awards for best family country club in Fairfield County. It enjoys a convenient proximity to Brookfield, Bethel, Danbury, Easton, Monroe, New Milford, and Redding. This is where the majority of members live, some live in NYC and come up on weekends and others live just off the course. Initially the course was just three holes, it served as the weekend retreat of a notable New York City physician. Later, the property was acquired and transformed into Pine Tree Country Club. Shortly thereafter, the property was purchased by a group that included numerous founding members of the club. They maintained the club's signature pine tree logo and established Rock Ridge Country Club in 1954. 70 years later, Rock Ridge offers several different amenities as a country club, featuring a stellar nine-hole golf course, Har-Tru tennis courts, an L-shaped swimming pool, and recently constructed pool cabana and clubhouse. The clubhouse includes a charming outdoor patio and fire pit strung all with string lights in recent years, serving as the central gathering point for the club's social events during the summer months. This year Rock Ridge added a beautiful top of the art golf simulator, a putting green and an upgraded driving range.

The Head Pro at Rock Ridge is a PGA Pro named Brian Hussey and I had a quick talk with him and asked him a little more about the club and a more in depth look. We talked about the tournament structure at Rock Ridge. The Espresso Cup which is a long-standing tournament started by the original members of the club. This is a team event between the Italians vs the rest of the club, since about half of the original club population was from Italy. I personally have always watched this event and rooted on my dad and team USA, the men always dress up in their country's colors and spirit and play each other in a matchplay golf event. This event usually starts the year. 

The main three tournaments are the Club Championship, Member Guest and The Nassau. The Member Guest is our biggest money maker and where we hold our staff, members and guests to the highest standard, this is how they promote the club, find potential members and there is a huge payout for the winner. The formatting of the member guest is pretty self explanatory as members will bring a guest and compete in a two day tournament where they are arranged by skill level and ultimately play using handicap to determine a grand champion. I personally have also watched this event growing up, it has always been basically a giant party for Rock Ridge members and their guests.

Next, is Nassau, this is the big money tournament of the year. 18 teams of four, which are randomly drawn, play in an ABCD format. For those of you who don’t know golf, this is basically where the 18 best players are listed as A’s, the next best 18 players are B’s and so on until you get to the D category. This is the biggest buy-in for a tournament all year and the most money on the table, this is only open to Men’s Club members and this is typically the most competitive of the year. Each player doesn’t want to let down their team and this event typically has the most nerves because using handicap, each player is on an even playing field. This makes all teams just about even.  

The last is the club championship, which is a single elimination tournament with all members usually trying to qualify, there is no handicap. It is to find the 16 best players at the club and annually they will do a single elimination bracket until there is one left. 

In Conclusion Rock Ridge Country Club is the ultimate destination for families and individuals seeking fun, relaxation, and social connections. With its impressive facilities, including a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, and clubhouse, there's something for everyone to enjoy. From exciting activities and tournaments to peaceful moments by the pool, Rock Ridge is more than just a country club—it's a place where memories are made and friendships blossom.
