Universal College of Accreditations?
The UCA is basically pirate university! It has one campus on their main city, High and Dry, and basically what happened is a bunch of organized professions went “hey we all want our apprentices to learn the same thing, why don’t we just pay one person to teach them all?” Originally, it was recommendation-only (you needed a sponsorship from an affiliated profession to attend) but now you can either get a sponsorship or pay your own way
Julian went to the UCA for their medical schooling. When we eventually get Julian backstory, a significant event in their backstory takes place there :)
Thank you for the ask!

Funding cuts have caused the closure this September, of a school so dear to a lecturer that he just had to spray-paint it.
I feel that twinge too, for such a beautiful, hilly campus there will have once been, by the street that Charles Dickens walked on. I’ll never forget scurrying between the facilities. My notetaker Vicki who tirelessly jotted down every important and unimportant bit. Fresh-faced peers who were just in it for the ride too, destroying our own clothes in the name of fashion. Some showed wonderful talent. Putting the “life” in life-drawing. Collaborating to the point of passion. A trip to continental Europe, staying next door to its oldest comic shop. And of course, we ate. Drank, sang, danced, whatever that made for some semblance of a social life, which had already seemed so easier compared to today.
I’ll never forget you, UCA Rochester. For teaching me how to love art, again, even if that would mean a descent into madness.

Student Ambassador
Open days and Grad shows
Getting the opportunity to work as a student ambassador and being able to represent UCA has been one of my greatest pleasures this year. Not only did I get to meet and share my experience with the wonderful UCA staff and my colleagues, I also was learning more about the campus and the university with every job. I got to appreciate the little and big things this university has to offer.
I got to welcome families and make sure they have a good time during the grad shows in June (in Rochester and Canterbury) and represent the courses and facilities to the younger students during the Open Days.
Before coming to Canterbury I used to be a lot more shy and introverted, but coming here helped me become a lot more outgoing, comfortable and socially confident. I suppose becoming a student ambassador and course rep. played a big role.

I also participated in creating social media content showing off the Canterbury campus.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Right Student Accommodation in Leeds
You must choose the right student accommodation that will set you off on your university journey in the best possible way. Leeds, a lively city home to an almost innumerable student community, offers a wide array of choices to fit the needs of students with different preferences and budgets.
This guide will help you to grasp the main element you should take into account when choosing a suitable place where you will be spending most of the time away from home, look at some of the accommodation options in the city.
Tumblr media
Location:
Among the most important factors to be taken into consideration when you choose student accommodation is the distance it is from the university campus. Leeds is the location of several higher education institutions, such as the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, and Leeds Trinity University.
Based on the Unipol survey in 2023, 68% of Leeds students believe accommodations should be within a 20-minute walk to campus. The strong bond of location and student housing choices is thus underlined by this preference.
1. St. Albans Leeds: which is operated by Uninist is a superb location for the students who are taking the University of Leeds course. It stands near the main campus, within walking distance of just 10 minutes. This common tech device feature of St. Albans Leeds includes a list of the following:
- En-suite rooms and studio apartments
- On-site gym and study areas
- 24/7 security and CCTV
- High-speed Wi-Fi throughout the building
Cost:
Your budget will be the main factor in your housing selection. The mean weekly rent for student accommodation in Leeds is between £125 and £200 and this depends on the place and the services offered.
2. Oxley Residence: is the home to many options that are suitable for every kind of student, being lavish or budget-oriented.
Here is the following list of features:
- Apartments that are shared and studio ones
- Bills on top of the rent are a package deal, there are no additional costs
- Laundry facilities, which are present on-site
- Regular social events
Concerning budgeting, one should also keep in mind overheads, like meals, fares, and class materials. A survey on the Students in 2024 found out that Leeds students' monthly budgeting is nearly going to hit £810, comprising rent & bills, (including utilities and groceries).
Memory and Execution
A high standard of living including all necessary elements of life is possible with the on-campus amenities provided by the chosen place of stay. Among its host of extra services- like help in educational and peer entertainment, the erstwhile cited so-called "modern" accommodations are always at the forefront.
3. Scape Leeds Residence: contains a complete list of various facilities, thus, it can be used to set a good standard in this respect. Bits and pieces of the property are as follows:
- Double mane with private suite including television and internet facilities
- The kitchen and the dining room where people eat and relax together
- Gyming at the site, which constitutes regular activities for the youth, and watching movies in the cinema
- Place for study, Library, and meeting rooms
- 24/7 reception and security
According to a 2023 survey by UCAS, 78% of students feel the internet's high speed is also a deciding factor when they choose accommodation. On the other hand, in Leeds, the provision of secure and fast internet has remained at the top for institutions such as the student centers, as well as the University. Students that prefer such locality are also fortunate to have this service at their doorsteps, one of them being Leeds city with the abovementioned favorite places.
Safety and Security
The need to feel secure in the new place of stay is is very important. Leeds is certainly not a problem as far as safety is concerned, but for the sake of sonship, one needs to stay at a room where good measures are taken against insecurity.
Uninist, one of the best student accommodation providers in Leeds, is concerned first and foremost with the safety of the students in their properties. Their accommodations are now typically equipped with the following:
- 24/7 on-site staff
- Secure entry systems
- CCTV coverage
- Fire safety equipment
A 2024 report by the National Union of Students stated that 89% of students thought security features are great when choosing their accommodations which emphatically verifies the significance of this factor.
Community and Social Life
College life is not only about books; it is also about friendships and making memories. Various student accommodations in Leeds that aim at bonding the residents and creating community regularly host social events.
For instance, St. Albans Leeds holds a variety of social activities every week which can be anything from watching movies to cooking classes. These occasions are particularly useful for international students or those on their own for the first time.
Contract Terms and Flexibility
Before signing the contract, to be sure, make sure you know all the tenancy terms. Take into account the details such as the tenancy agreement length, what's in the rent, and any additional fees additionally.
Uninist, along with many other providers, offers various contract lengths for their students. In addition, some properties support the accommodations of short-term stays for students who attend summer school or even those on exchange programs.
Sustainability
Due to the increase of awareness among students of environmental concerns, the search for a green housing unit among them is increasing. According to a 2024 survey conducted by Student.com, 65% of students stated that they care about sustainability.
Scape Leeds Residence implemented a couple of sustainability initiatives, including:
- The use of energy-efficient lighting and appliances
- The improvement of recycling programs
- Bike storage to encourage eco-friendly transport
Transport Links
Although multiple student houses are located within walking distance thanks to the university campuses, the unification of the public transport service is another idea that is worthy of consideration. The city of Leeds provides an extensive bus network and among the services provided by students, the proximity to city buses is a great one.
For instance, Oxley Residence connects with the city center and the campus of the university through uninterrupted regular bus services.
Reviews and Recommendations
Finally, don't overlook the importance of peer reviews. Websites like Student Crowd and Google Reviews can provide insights from current and former residents. According to the 2024 research conducted by Accommodation for Students, 72% of students give credit to web reviews when it comes to accommodation.

Interview with Coach Casey
After an attempt to contact the famous Monica Aldama was unsuccessful, I turned to my own collegiate cheerleading coach, Casey Gruver as a backup. After countless posts from me, a student athletes, you understand my perspective, what I am passionate about, what parts of the sports I like and dislike. I figured it would be interesting for you guys to understand some of this sport from a different perspective, and who better to ask than a better who dedicates all of their free time to this sport. Casey Gruver, is a Kutztown graduate who cheered for 3 years at the University and now teaches history at the middle school level. Aside from her teaching day job, she helps coach her districts high school Junior Varsity team, is an assistant coach here at Kutztown University, and is an active staff member of UCA, so it is safe to say she loves cheerleading and knows what she is talking about.
I went ahead and gathered some of the original questions I had for Monica and asked them to Casey and felt like her answers really showcase her heart and passion for this sport.
Question 1: What events have to occur for a season to be deemed successful for you? Caseys responses were all typed through text message exchange, and so her response was as follows, "Each season can be successful in its own, unique way. To me, success looks like my athletes becoming a family, being excited to show up to practice, workouts, and events, and my athletes being proud of the work they put in. Any other accolades are just an additional perk!". Casey's response shows how much it means for her for everyone to just come together and work hard, and enjoy what they are doing.
Question 2: Is the dedication any less of a D1 athlete compared to a D1? And her response was "The dedication of D2 athletes is often assumed to be less than D1 but I believe the exact opposite for my athletes." I feel like I agree with this, as a deciding factor for me to cheer D2 instead of D1 was not my level of dedication to the sport but rather the money, and time that goes involved with traveling and missing more school in a D1 program.
Question 3: How much time and dedication goes into the sport of cheerleading for you and your athletes? And her response was "The coaching staff dedicates countless hours towards practices, games, and events. Even more hours go into the planning, choreographing, and coordinating of fundraisers. I don't like to count the hours because this it feels like "work", when I view coaching as a passion." This only shows how much work it is to be a coach, and any coach of any sport would only sign themselves up to do such a thing if they truly loved it. I know Casey personally outside of being one of her athletes, and I know she goes above and beyond in everything she does, especially when it comes to cheerleading and being the best coach she can be.
Question 4: What kind of coach techniques work best for you and your athletes? She responded with "Coaching techniques have to be adjusted each season based on your athletes, but one technique that stays constant is the hands-on approach. As a cheerleading coach, it is important to be available to show new grips and be willing to spot new skills to make athletes feel secure among many other things." As one of Casey's athletes, I can say our practices are structured to master the basic level skills, and then attempt anything new we are taught when we are confident, and have spots to feel safe at all times.
And finally Question 5: What kind of events or community service do your athletes participate in as cheerleader for the school? And her final response was "At our university, our cheerleaders are lucky enough to be invited too many campus events to increase engagement in the community and promote school spirit. Examples include accepted student days, new student tours, campus clean ups, and any other events that the university hosts on a year to year basis." This is true, the cheerleading team here at Kutztown puts in their own amount of time just to give back to the community in thanks to all the love and support we get throughout each of our seasons.
I feel the interview with Casey was short, but straight to the point, and I thank her for her time and her perspective as it shows the world that cheerleaders are not just people who dress up in a skirt every now and then and shake pom poms.
PSA: Casey had granted me full permission to use her original wordings for this post to education the public on the flip side of the sport.
