Call this a niche in the actual niche (is this a 'what if' or an AU? Idk) but something something ✨Turn-Back-The-Pendolum AiHina✨. Perfectly in between absolutely tender, nearly ethereal, and a grotesque romcom. Or grotesque and that's all.
Sweet Hinamori and Aizen alike, two of the few people actually working diligently in the Gotei 13, their power imbalance is there but lessened compared to their canon roles: he is a lieutenant and she is a ranked seat in another division, not high in the scale as she has no desire to become stronger (for now). In her eyes he is not unreachable this time, she can reach him perfectly fine, and when they have time to rest, one from the lack of a captain and the other from an extremly lazy one, they spend their time in peace drinking tea and enjoying their own tranquillity. Because they are similar! In a more brute world, filled with eerie disappearances, Momo has found someone like her who doesn't need violence and seeks peace, someone with her own talent who managed to be even a lieutenant without bending what in him is good. All he gives her is warm tranquility and softness.
And Aizen who fills that world of losses and shredded souls, experimenting on the life and deaths of others, finds that this one soul can not be torn like that, she has a hunger, just like him, and he can feed that. And, this takes time to recognize, she can stay, beside him, looking at him, seeking him, desiring him, while she tries and fails to fill the void in him. She is not for the hogyoku but his alone. It's a game of reverence: he hides blood from her and she believes he is the only one worthy of power, of love.
And then there is the whole circus of Aizen shoving his romantic relationship at Gin's face, now beginning in his childhood for the sake of better bullying and torture.
And there is Shinji in the middle of everything, antagonising Aizen in having a relationship. He doesn't know, he sees something but when he connects everything it's too late anyway.
And there is Hinamori in the process of sharpening her skills because now she has a reason to. She starts spilling more blood she doesn't see, following a plan she doesn't know. But doing so she is even more loved.
There are Hinamori and Aizen using kido in the name of the sacred art of sneaking into each other room in the middle of the night. Captain promotion can not arrive soon enough for Aizen.
Maybe all of this is just an excuse to see Momo kicking ass, who knows.
