Credit: Brittney Lee (D23 2024)
The first piece of concept just got leaked! What we can assume/theorize:
- Considering the general atmosphere, the movie will take place in Spring (as I expect cause we already got Fall in F2 and both Summer and Winter in F1). I'm just hoping it will be the next Spring after F2
-The spirits and lore they introduced in F2 won't be left out, or least Nokk won't
Tumblr media
- There's a slight chances the movie takes place a new places cause the trees look slighly different from the Enchanted Forest's
Tumblr media
Unless it's an area in the forest where the vegetation is quite different or I'm over analyzing
- We're gonna have either a real MAGICAL antagonist or a character who appears at such at first. They look like they have a cap so these horns could be fake
Tumblr media
- Their weapon reminds me a bit of the Northuldra's. It may be a different type but still one of their traditional tools
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- They're clearly not the same but the way the character is holding it is similar to how Yelena holds hers in this concept art (also made my Brittney Lee). Not to mention this Ryder concept art by Jin Kim. So maybe a sign of the return of our Northuldra characters...?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-The Northern lights are gonna have an important role in the movies (since it's confirmed F3 and F4 are a same story cut in halves)
Tumblr media
- We might meet the previous fifth spirit (or spirits)! It's a bit blurry and subtle but the two characters in front of the strange castle seems to quite have reindeer's horns. I'm even assuming the one on the left could be an actual reindeer
For those who are familiar with the deleted, Frozen 2 originally portrays a prologue where a character who could turn into a reindeer. It's kinda imply they were the fifth spirit
Tumblr media
I have a strong feeling Frozen 3 and 4 are gonna include a lot the ideas they couldn't include in Frozen 2. Unlike Frozen's, a lot of Frozen 2's deleted scenes could still make sense in the canon verse
Remember these are my personal assumptions, feel free to agree or disagree!

Elsa Was Happy and Free in Arendelle
There have been a lot of people claiming that Elsa hated being queen, and that she was unhappy in Arendelle. I am here to provide evidence to show that this is not true and is not the reason why Elsa left her life in Arendelle at the end of Frozen 2.
The evidence is the words from the song writers for Frozen 1 and 2. Here is a link to the interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S14k8w72urQ, go to 10:52. If you don’t want to watch it, this is what is said.
“This Voice is calling her, and Elsa is so resistant. She is so grateful to be queen, she is so happy to be here. That is really important. And Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck really put in a lot of work to make sure we knew Elsa was happy where she was.” (Kristen Anderson-Lopez)
There is more, but you get the point. Elsa was very happy with her life in Arendelle. The reason she left, outside of the voice, is because she has a destiny and purpose she needs to fulfill. Elsa is now staying in the forest, not because she is finally free, but because she has something to do there that only she can do.
A lot of people like to use two sentences from “Into the Unknown”, to show Elsa did not like or belonged in Arendelle. These verses are, “Who knows deep down, I’m not where I’m meant to be”, “Every day’s a little harder as I feel my power grow”.
Both these verses are meant to point to Elsa questioning why she was born with powers, and not that she hates her life in Arendelle or does not belong there. If you were born with immense powers, would you not wonder why? Also, the second verse of her powers growing, originally was “As I feel YOUR power grow”, indicating the voice’s power was growing and luring her. Why they changed it, I don’t know, but the credits version of “Into the Unknown”, has these lyrics, which is interesting. But Elsa is fully in control of her powers, and even if they are still growing, she is not a danger to Arendelle, and does belong there.
More examples is the rest of “Into the Unknown”, where Elsa is very resistant to the voice calling her. She says, “Everyone I ever loved is here with in these walls”. There is also what she says in “Some things never change”, were she mentions that she feels change is coming, but these days are precious.
People then tend to use the books that came after Frozen 2 as evidence that Elsa loved the forest more and that she did not like her life in Arendelle.
Two things. The books are not canon, so you can not trust them. And, if you do want to use the books, then you have to also use what was written before Frozen 2. Here is an amazing post that shows all the examples of how Elsa loved her life in Arendelle, plus showing how Anna did not want to be queen, and in fact did not even like being a princess, in all the post Frozen books and comics. https://www.reddit.com/r/Frozen/comments/eviecu/mega_post_proof_that_elsa_never_want_to_leave/
I think this post really shows why Frozen 2’s ending does not work. It completely changed the characters’ wants and likes. Anna never wanted to be queen, and she would never like to do it. All post Frozen 2 material are trying to change that and push the Frozen 2 ending, even if it does not make sense for the characters and what had been established before.
As for Elsa leaving. She left because she had a greater purpose, but the biggest problem, was that the Directors and Writers failed to give her a purpose. No one knows what the Fifth Spirit is, or what Elsa does in the forest. People give suggestions, but nothing is good enough that she had to give up her throne and live in the Forest 24/7.
Now, before you point out that what Elsa does in the Forest is going to be revealed in Frozen 3 or 4, you have to remember that Frozen 3 / 4 was never planned to happen. The Directors confirmed that Frozen 2 was meant to be the ending. They said something like “That story is done. However, we also felt like the first film was the final, so who knows”. In short, Frozen 2 was meant to be the ending, but they still gave hope for another. But that does not change the fact that Disney was very ready to leave Elsa in the Forest to do nothing for the rest of her life.
Lastly, people are probably going to use Elsa’s satisfied smile at the end of Frozen 2.
For me, this was a very forced happy ending. The sisters had fought tooth and nail to stay with each other, only to be forced apart because of destiny. But Anna and Elsa are smiling happily and at peace in the end. The deleted scenes showed that their separation was a tearful one, and I don’t know why that was not in the movie. Now it just looks like the sisters don’t care about each other.
Other than that, just because Elsa is happy in this moment, does not mean she was never happy in Arendelle. The ending of Frozen, and all of Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, shows how unbelievable happy Elsa is as queen of Arendelle. She was forced to be apart from her sister and her people, because of her powers. After struggling for 13 years, feeling alone and afraid. Then her worst nightmares happen but she manages to get through them and is reunited with the people she loves and cares about. Elsa wanted to be in Arendelle and to be its queen.
Part of the reason why F2's ending doesn't work is because Elsa and Anna being happy to live apart is very OOC, especially when you take into account the events of the previous films and also the fact that they fought tooth and nail to stay together, like you said. You're right. The original ending was supposed to be bittersweet, but the directors didn't want to have a sad ending because kids would've left the theater disappointed, so they forced happy smiley faces on Elsa and Anna. It doesn't feel earned or consistent with their characters at all.
Elsa only stayed in the forest because she felt that she was the only one who could fulfill a certain destiny. If that's the case, then that gives us hope that whenever she fulfills that destiny, she'll be done with her duties in the forest. Then she'll move back to Arendelle for F3 and F4 and both sisters can be queens.
In conclusion. Elsa loved her life in Arendelle and loved being queen. She simply has a mission to fulfill in the Forest, and hopefully Frozen 3 or 4 tells us what that is.

Why Jelsa is Ridiculously Stupid
Let me start off by saying that the idea of this ship was cute at first, I have nothing against it. In fact I have a few ships myself that have nothing to back them up. I am not making this to convince people to be anti, stop the ship itself, or spread any form of hate what so ever.
But this Jelsa fandom has gone too far. And when I say "jelsa shippers," of course I don't mean ALL of them, just about 80% of them.
In fact, I'm very appreciative of the few jelsa shippers who don't go around harassing others because "jelsa is life."
Also, allow me to correct you in saying that I'm not a jelsa hater, I'm a jelsa loather. There's a difference. Most jelsa haters, hate jelsa for the sake of hating it.
I genuinely hate it.
And don't go commenting about, "how do you know you don't like it if you've never tried it?" Because you see, that's where you're wrong. I did used to ship it, when I was 11. I was a child, I was new to the internet, I didn't know better. But I do now!
I am writing this so that some who may not know, will now understand why jelsa is bad and because I need to get all of this out of my system. I am slowly dieing inside.
First; I'm gonna go into how all the excuses to ship this are pointless. Next, I'll talk about just how these two would never work out as a couple. Then, will be what the toxicity has done to not just to the ship itself, but to the big four as well. And finally, I'll go into how uncreative the shippers are and just what horrible/stupid things they've done and are still doing.
1) Excuses are Pointless
Excuse #1: They have the same powers.
...Yeah, that's like saying you ship Lavagirl (Sharboy and Lavagirl) and Bolin (LoK) because they can both control lava. That's not a valid reason to ship anyone. There needs to be actual substance and I'll only say that once because that sentence applies to every excuse here.
Excuse #2: They look alike
🤦🤦🤦 First of all: that's also like saying you ship Tiana (Princess and the Frog) and Frozone (The Incredibles) because they're both black. Second of all: no they don't. It may be because I'm an artist so I notice small details, but here's how it is; Jack's hair is white, Elsa's is platinum blonde. Jack has a square chin, Elsa has a round face. Jack is much paler! THEIR EYES AREN'T EVEN THE SAME SHADE OF BLUE!!! Your excuse is null and void. Even so, if characters do look alike, then they're most likely to be related. Especially in animation.
Excuse #3: Jack can teach Elsa to have fun and Elsa can teach Jack to be serious
Tumblr media
This clearly proves the point that jelsa shippers don't know these characters. The job of teaching Elsa how to be social and have fun is already taken by Anna. So if anything, Elsa will see Jack as a younger brother. And Jack wouldn't have been chosen to take on such a responsibility of guardianship if he didn't know when to quit. I don't know what it is about playful characters that make people think they're obnoxious. Jack is an immortal teenager with the heart of a child, that's what makes him a good guardian. But he's been alive for over 300 years, he bound to have the mind capacity of an adult and he does know better. He doesn't play when he's in battle, he's dead serious.
Excuse #4: They understand each other because they were both isolated for a long time
I don't know where you come from but people don't really "bond" over their trauma. Infact, if anything, that would make the relationship more unstable. Plus, Elsa isolated herself for 13 years because she was afraid of her powers. Jack was forced into isolation for 300 years! He has never been afraid of his powers and Elsa could still be seen throughout the day by parents and servants. They would never be able understand what the other went through.
Excuse #5: They both have a sister they love
SO WHAT?! At least half of the population have sisters. Simple as that. It's a horrible excuse.
Excuse #6: They both have an enemy in fear
Bruh, almost every fictional character has to deal with their fears, literal or mental. It's not at all unique to these two.
Excuse #7: Jack can teach Elsa to control her powers
She already has control of them by the end of the movie. And even if you mean prier to that, the reason she couldn't control them was because she feared them. I doubt that even if she could see him and if he showed her his powers, she's be irrational, believing that their powers were different.
Excuse #8: William Joyce says he ships it
Really, you're going to base the possibility of a ship because the writer of the 'books' that "inspired" rotg says he likes it. First: the books and movie are not the same worlds. Two: he most likely stated this in order for jelsa shippers to shut up to him about it. And three: his own canon with the books is a mess as it is. With him adding a bunch on random/unnecessary details on twitter that have no relevance or reference in the books. Even if he does ship it, everything that's going on with Jack's character in the books is weird enough as it is. Plus he's physically 14 in the books. I know age doesn't really matter but Elsa would definitely feel weird about dating someone who looks so young when she's currently 24 by the second movie.
Excuse #9: They could've met before the events of rotg
Not a reason to ship them but whatever 🙄 Even if their stories were based in the same world (which it isn't), Elsa never would've believed in fairy tales. Having to grow up so soon and all. She believes in magic, of course, but you need to believe in the individuals themselves in order to see them. Plus it is very clear in rotg that Jamie is Jack's first believer.
Excuse #10: Now that Frozen 2 is out, they are both spirits who followed the memories of their loved ones. They can live forever together!
Once AGAIN, how does this factor to them being a good couple? Plus the title of spirit is different in the Frozen-verse than the Guardian-verse. Guardian-verse; they are un-aging beings who keep the entire world in balance. Frozen-verse; never confirmed to be immortal (especially since 3 out of 5 spirits are inanimate objects), magical things that keep a single forest secure. The only reason the elements needed a fifth spirit was most likely because the one before Elsa died of old age. Plus the idea of Elsa outliving Anna goes against the theme of sisterly love that both movies strive on. This can be changed in fanfiction but I hate how people lie about her mortality for an excuse to ship.
Excuse #11: They're both single
So what? People ship characters who aren't single with other characters all the time. That's not a reason to ship them. Especially since your statement is false because Tooth is Jack's canon love interest.
It is true that jelsa haters will give reasons to not ship that I necessarily don't agree with.
•Like the age gap — Jack has the mental capacity of an adult, as I've said before. He's smart enough to make his own choices.
•Elsa not being immortal — that doesn't mean they can't still date, even if he outlives her. Plus you can change that in fanfiction.
•They come from different studios and will never be canon — Again, this is fanfiction, we can do whatever we want.
•Elsa is independent and shipping her with someone takes her independence away — for one: most of the world is bound to find love at some point in time. I would imagine that Elsa would want to find love like her sister. Two: Mulan, Pocahontas and Jasmine are very independent and they all still ended up with men. Three: she's not that independent to begin with. Independence isn't relationship status, it's your ability to make it on your own and Elsa is clearly, very dependant on Anna and her safety. Which is actually what pushes her to being a bad sister in Frozen 2. In fact it is because they made her more 'independant' in the sequel that Elsa clearly, no longer loves Anna as much as Anna loves her (you can check out Watso Videos' video on YouTube about how Elsa is a bad sister bc I'm not gonna go into it here).
My god that was ALL just part one. This is gonna take forever 😰
2) How they would never work out
For Elsa, she needs someone who is calm and collected. A rock for her to stand on when she's being irrational. Possibly even someone who is very stoic and straight to the point but with enough sense of humor to lighten the mood. And now that I'm thinking about it, Honeymaren fits that description to a tee. I'm not one to push LGBT+ in anyone's face, but I'm not gonna judge ships on characters assumed sexualities either. Even though Honeymaren didn't have much screen time, her personality still showed through and Elsamaren could very well work.
Jack on the other hand needs someone who would be able to keep up with his playful nature as well as be a rock for him to stand on when he's emotional. Tooth is a good suitor even though I don't really ship it myself. Hiccup, Merida and Rapunzel could also fit in this description.
They don't have the ability to be each other's rocks. They can't be stable if they both need someone to keep them so. If they were to date, the relationship would crumble before it even began.
Plus Jack has to be a guardian and there are a lot of fanfics that go into this idea of Jack being the king of Arendalle? First off: I'm fairly certain that you can't marry into royalty to become king. At least in the real world. Second: Jack wouldn't be able to handle that responsibility with him already being a guardian. And he can't just leave guardianship either, it was what he always was and was ment to be. And Elsa has the responsibility of keeping a magical forest in check, she can't leave to become a guardian.
3) The Toxicity
Oh my God! The fanfiction! As I usually say, you can do whatever you want in fanfiction. But if you have to butcher all the characters so much in EVERY fanfic in order to make the ship work, then there's clearly something wrong here! In every fanfic I've ever seen, the characters are so out of character it's insane. Not just Jack and Elsa, every character.
Olaf for example, is practically in love with Jack first meeting, in every fanfic. If he were to actually meet Jack, he would be apprehensive of him.
It's horrifying in not only that, but jelsa shippers will add Rapunzel a lot, just in spite of Jackunzel. They turn Rapunzel into a needy ex-girlfriend of Jack's when in reality, she's a very sweet and kind soul. Even if she and Jack had dated, they would've split on good terms and stayed friends after. There have also been cases where they do the same but with Tooth. Sometimes even both and it's honestly sick.
And let's talk about the sexism as well HAHA! I swear to God, they will rewrite Frozen but where Jack will save Elsa instead of Anna. They write Elsa as a hormonal teenage girl who falls in love with Jack within seconds.
Tumblr media
This is from an actual jelsa shipper, my dude. WTF!!! They make Jack super dominant as well as a douche who cheats on Elsa half the time. Jack is not that dominant, he's a very emotional guy. And he'd be the most faithful boyfriend on the planet. He was alone for 300 years! If anything, he'd be clingy but not too clingy because he also understands personal space.
And if you like angsty fanfiction where a character cheats on the other, there are literally no fanfics where Elsa cheats on Jack. As if a woman couldn't possibly cheat. This is very sexist towards men and women and is toxic as hell.
If anything, Elsa would cheat on Jack, she's not exactly trustworthy in keeping promises or being loyal.
I swear, half of the jelsa shippers has never even seen rotg and just go by what they read in others fanfiction.
Jelsa shippers have gotten so bad about this ship that they've low-key harassed people for not shipping it, as well as start shipping wars within the big four fandom. That's the reason the fandom truly shrunk after 2013. I've seen posts about people admitting to leaving the fandom because it got so bad.
4) The Shippers
Jelsa shippers have literally threatened lives, not just to other fans but even to the creators of the movies. Literally threatening them into making the ship canon. They've made patitions to make it canon as if that would work. They've even harassed a lot of recent shippers to Elsamaren because "jelsa is canon."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh look at that, they're homophobic too...
...
...
...
... That's great 🙃
Isn't it a bigger sin to love a celestial being though? Therefore the fact that you –as a toxic christian– ship Elsa with a spirit it worse.
THEY'RE DELUSIONAL!!! So many of them have shipped jelsa so long that legit think it's canon!
Not only all that mess but there are literally more jelsa games on the internet then there are Merida games. I'm specifying this for personal reasons (aka Merida is my fave Disney princess)
And let's continue on with what really aggravates me as an artist. Jelsa shippers, stealing artwork, mostly from Jackunzel. This is not just a rumor, it's very much real.
Tumblr media
And it doesn't help when all of their actual original fanart is just them taking scenes from Frozen and adding Jack. Then to add more salt on the wound is that almost all the fanfiction is the same, whether it'd be based during Frozen, rotg or in a highschool au.
There's literally nothing original about or going on with this ship, even after Frozen 2 came out, the shippers and fanfiction haven't changed. If anything it made the shippers spike up again.
The only thing that could say is original about jelsa is the frost daughter fanon. Oh boy! What we have to unpack here.
This is something that I recently heard about...
...
I am mortified.
Frost daughters is this little thing that jelsa shippers came up with, believing Jack and Elsa (if they could get pregnant) would have nothing but girls. What's scary about it is they're designs. Like they're trying to be original... But it's not really going great.
Most of them are just young!Elsa copies, some are edits of Elsa with Jack's hair color.
For example:
Tumblr media
This is fine, this follows genetrical rules. I'm fine with this.
But what has me low-key petrified are some of the other designs.
Tumblr media
Like... WTF IS ALL OF THIS!!! Where are this colors coming from?!! I don't understand 😭 You can see in the screen shots that these are literally titled as daughters of jelsa.
Tumblr media
The white haired ones are fine. The ginger is understandable. Got it from Elsa's dad's genes. That's okay. A few are wearing pink? They can wear what ever they want. But wtf I'd going on with Nevada? Why is she black? Jack and Elsa the pastiest of white! And you cannot tell me that she got it from Elsa's mom because this was made BEFORE Frozen 2 and her mother is still white as an adult.
Tumblr media
Where tf does the blue and pink hair come from? None of these make sense!
I want to kill myself, just looking at these!
That's gonna be the end of this rant
Now I'll say it again, I really have nothing against the ship itself. I too have casual ships that make no sense. But with ALL the fanfiction and fanart being so unoriginal and most jelsa shippers low-key being dangerous, it's hard for me respect people's opinions about it.
I try, trust me, I do! But it's become so murky in my brain that I can't tell the difference anymore and I'm also just not a fan of Elsa's character in general. And I like ships that actually make sense.
And being that I'm an equalist... it's really hard for me to look at this stuff and not get pissed off. I'm sorry if all of this comes off as aggressive because it kinda is.
I'm just very passionate, okay?
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. None of the pictures I used are mine. And I hope you have a good day?

The centrality of All Is Found in Frozen 2
(I’ve gotten feedback that the video frame rate is low - that was not my doing, sorry. I think Tumblr scaled it down =(
All is Found appears 9 times in the movie, 5 times sung and 4 times as a musical theme. It is such an important song that is at the very core of Frozen 2, with multiple associations with Iduna, happy memories of times with Iduna, the scarf, the Northuldra, the death of Iduna 😢, Ahtohallan, Elsa’s destiny as 5th spirit and the death of Elsa 😢 .
This song is like a multi-purpose tool! I made this video and this post to appreciate this song. And I must give the utmost kudos to 1) Christophe Beck for incorporating it into his score with his masterful touch, affecting us subconsciously. 2) The Lopezes who wrote the song (duh) but also, solved the problem of how to make Show Yourself a great song by bringing in AIF in the bridge of Show Yourself. This was revealed to us in the ITU documentary - I can’t believe we ALMOST didn’t have SY in the film. SY carries the entire frozen franchise on its back!!! It is the other half of Let It Go and Elsa’s journey. 3) Evan Rachel Wood, whose voice is soooo perfectly matched to be Iduna. asdkjfhgl I can’t describe how I feel, it’s like I’m being mothered by her too. Here she is recording “Come my darling homeward bound” for SY
Tumblr media
Description of my video
1. This is the song. (I only included 1 verse, due to Tumblr video constraints) Mmmhhhhphphphphh ERW’s voice!!! And all the mother-daughter moments. In my headcanon, which I expounded at length in this analysis (Ahtohallan, Iduna and the Voice), this was the first and last time that Ahtohallan was ever mentioned or the lullaby sung in the time period before F2. Anna’s accident happened on the same night and after that, Agnarr ordered “Conceal, don’t feel”.
2. Anna sings to Elsa. I believe this is the very first time Elsa has heard the lullaby since childhood. Darling Anna comforts Elsa with Mother’s lullaby. (and it’s the only sister-sister duet in the whole of F2) The scarf is introduced just before this. Also, we see the first indication of Mama Anna here.
3. Now it’s Anna’s turn to be soothed by Elsa with the scarf. The girls, the Northuldra and us learn that Iduna is Northuldran, a very significant revelation. This changes everything. And now we know AIF is a Northuldran lullaby, not Arendellian.
4. Elsa and Honeymaren sing together. Ahtohallan is mentioned. I believe this is the first time Elsa has heard the word “Ahtohallan” since Iduna mentioned it. As I mentioned in my other analysis, Elsa is starting to link Iduna, Ahtohallan, the Voice and the 5th spirit together.
5. Ship scene 1. (btw I split up the ship scene into 2 because I feel that AIF plays 2 different roles) This first part is creepy-horror-exciting because when they stepped into the ship they had no idea what they would find, and their adrenaline was rushing because they (and us) were totally not expecting to see the ship, and why is it here? And this map! Ahtohallan is real, it’s not some fairy tale location in a kid’s song. And Iduna was trying to find answers about Elsa all this time! BUT...(go to point 6)
How many of you remember the first time you watched this scene in the movie? I remember clearly. I was filled with horror thinking that they might find the parents corpses or something horrible!!!
6. Elsa, Anna and us have scarce had time to process this new information about the scroll and the map and Iduna’s intentions when Elsa decides to call forth the memories from the ship’s water and BOOM we are all slayed. The plot then abruptly shifts to Elsa’s heartbreaking sorrow+guilt+feeling she’s cursed all over again (I always say it’s amazing that Elsa didn’t freeze everything right there and then) and Anna’s selfless love and lovethawmode. (darling Anna never got to grieve over the parents cos she was too busy helping Elsa...and then she got pushed away by Elsa...sob...read my fic...)
7. Let’s shift our emotions to a happier place. Show Yourself. As I previously wrote, Thank God for the Lopezes who brought AIF into SY!!! Genius. (seriously, I can’t believe the entire writing team didn’t think of this?!) And duh, it’s fitting to hear AIF while we’re in Ahtohallan right? AIF is the song ABOUT Ahtohallan! Imagine Ahtohallan protesting “Hey Jenn! The audience is finally seeing me! I exist! Play my theme song!! Come on!!!” Lol. Ahtohallan’s memories are unlocked by Elsa stepping into her power. As the lyrics of the song say, all is found in Ahtohallan (literally). But not only Ahtohallan, IDUNA!! Iduna’s ghost sings to Elsa and Elsa melts (and so do we!!) Who doesn’t love that beautiful scene of Elsa crying when she sees her mum and remembers happy memories from 16 years ago!! As I mentioned in my analysis, at this moment, Ahtohallan, Iduna and the Voice have all converged. And Elsa is the fifth spirit. (she thought she was looking for the fifth spirit; instead she found Iduna and was given a fresh touch of mommy’s love after 16 years) mmmmphphhphph SY is SO GOOD.
8 and 9. The grim side of Ahtohallan and the warning in All Is Found. Elsa dies seeking the truth. Kudos to Beck, the notes of AIF when Elsa dies are so weighty and grave.
Like I said, AIF is like a multi-purpose tool!!

Looks like we’ll have some prequel/post-ending Frozen 2 books to look forward to this fall~
Source: Stitch Kingdom
Tumblr media
A prequel story about Iduna and Agnarr would be a great expansion to the Frozen-verse. I’ve heard speculations about having a story for them in an animated short or series on Disney+, but they’re not very marketable characters for Disney in terms of sales, so not likely they’ll want to dedicate the resources needed for a new animated project just for that: a novel requires much little investment while still providing official content for the fans who want to know more of their story (mostly older fans). According to the post, this book will be 352 pages, is written by Mari Mancusi (who’s written other books for Disney before), and will be released on November 3rd. Looking forward to it!

An “expanded” retelling of Frozen 2 geared towards YA (young adults, age range says 14) that’s told from the perspectives of Elsa and Anna? That sounds so good! I hope it’s as good as it sounds and doesn’t end up being just a generic comic version of the movie with maybe one or two new scenes. 72 pages don’t offer that much extra space for new scenes, but we’ll see. This one is scheduled to release on August 19th.
And below are short descriptions of some kiddy books also scheduled to be released this fall.

I’m particularly interested in the first of the three, with Frohana having adventures together again, particularly about Ahtohallan. The concept of Ahtohallan and its memories in general is something that’s full of story potential and I can’t wait to see how it’s explored further. Of course, children’s books like these won’t delve too deep into it or offer much exposition, but any “official” descriptions we can get of how Ahtohallan works is very welcome. These three books should also, hopefully, be the first step in showing us what Elsa and Anna do with their new roles, especially what Elsa does everyday as the “fifth spirit.”
Fall seems like such a long wait but I know it’ll be here before we know it. And I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll get an official announcement of new Frozen content before then, like an upcoming animated short and/or series on Disney+. C’mon Disney, take advantage of the hype before it starts to fade!

Since they were going with the “follow the voice” angle with elsa and the whole adventure and wanting somewhere/something different. Why didn’t they delve into it through an internal struggle/need for Elsa? Idk frozen 1 leaned heavily into internal struggle but here i feel like things are relegated to external stuff more. Thoughts?
oh man anon i have been WAITING for someone to ask about the Voice and Elsa’s arc so thank you for biting the bullet
i agree with you that a lot of the sequel feels more external than the first movie; depending on your side of the fence, the character work comes across as either more oblique or just underdeveloped. i see this criticism surface the most when people talk about Elsa, which makes sense: she had a big revelatory character-180 song and dance in Frozen the First, so the fact that she mostly runs around in Frozen the Second getting plot stuff done makes her personal arc seem a lot less substantial.
but i’d argue that a lot WAS done with Elsa in Frozen 2. it’s definitely not as dramatic what happened in the first movie, but it’s no less pivotal to her growth as a character.
not all of it can be encompassed by her wanting to be somewhere else/do something different, but that’s a great place to start. her verse in Some Things Never Change for example: she’s “not sure she wants things to change at all.” she wants to want things to stay the same, which is a whole different kettle of fish than ACTUALLY wanting things to stay the same. she knows she’s supposed to be in happily-ever-land, but her eyes keep straying beyond the horizon. the Voice is obviously part of it, but what we see even before we hear it onscreen is Elsa in the present, looking up and out, not down at her kingdom and her home. Elsa’s yearning isn’t coming from an external force–she’s not feeling alienated or ostracized in her own damn house, and she’s not actively being tempted by the promise of adventure (yet). it’s all coming from her, and her own realization without anyone needing to tell her that yes, she IS content, but she doesn’t want to be done. she wants to go out and look for something that would make her even happier.
and learning to want is everything for Elsa, who spent the entire previous movie being eaten alive by the things she felt like she HAD to do: she HAD to keep her powers in check. she HAD to keep herself isolated. she HAD to stay in the castle and be queen (”then leave,” she tells Anna. don’t you see? i can’t.) the intervening three years have been about untangling herself from the crushing weight of her responsibilities, letting someone else take the reins for her personal life, letting her powers be and letting herself be, but the more she does that the more she realizes that she wants herself to be more. it’s not enough for her to be “not a monster.” she wants to be a force for good. she wants to use her magic for something beyond building impromptu ice rinks and Christmas trees for the townsfolk. she wants to find out what she wants.
the tough thing for Elsa, though, is that she still doesn’t have the language to articulate this, and you can see it play out in the movie. take Into the Unknown: every time i listen to the song some part of me bumps over “everyone i’ve ever loved is here within these walls,” and i think i finally figured why: it’s not the line itself, but what comes before it. “i’m spoken for, i fear.” Elsa still thinks of love and wanting as being bound up by rules: she gets to have this and no more, and to ask for more would a) be unfair and ungrateful, and b) mean losing what she already has. the Voice provides her with a beautiful excuse to go out and look for the things she wants, but the ways she justifies it to herself and others are still along the lines of destiny, what she was born for, what others need. my favorite example of this is at the shipwreck: “for what?” she asks when Anna calls her a gift. for what? gifts aren’t FOR anything except love (unless you’re a horrible racist and the gift is actually a trap for dam-related genocide), but Elsa still can’t accept that. she wants to be assigned a purpose, because that’s easier to understand.
but “the Voice will have all the answers” IS just an excuse. Show Yourself is frustratingly vague on a lot of fronts (i wonder if it might have worked better as a reprise instead of a breakaway pop hit), but that’s something it DOES make clear. she is the person she’s been waiting for all of her life–not her mother and not her magic. the Reveal in Ahtohollan wasn’t “yeah, you’re the Fifth Spirit because your mom was nice once and nature must adhere to absolute primogeniture.” it wasn’t “tbh i just needed some magic but Moana was busy and Rapunzel lopped off her hair.” when she tells Anna at the cliffs that whoever is calling her is good, she says first: “my magic can feel it,” but then amends: “i can feel it.” with or without powers, Elsa chose herself. she’s–well, not to put too fine a point on it, but she’s had thirteen years of practice ignoring voices calling for her. she COULD have just let herself stay within those walls, with the people she loved, but she didn’t, because she didn’t want to. the reason she heard the Voice at all was because she was finally ready to hear it.
if Elsa’s arc in Frozen was about reverse maturation–about taking the fact that both she grew up overnight and didn’t grow up at all and neutralizing it so she could idk, learn what “fun” means–then her arc in Frozen 2 is about how to ACTUALLY grow up. how to take responsibility for her own happiness and her own ability to love, and because it’s Frozen we’re talking about here, it does ultimately come down to love. her arc is taking the love Anna taught her, realizing the power she has, and choosing to use it so she can throw her arms around the world. and there’s a horrifying kind of sublimity to that, because that took everything out of Anna: to love one person so much that when she said “my sister’s not a monster” it became true (well, mostly true, but Anna doesn’t know about the two guys Elsa almost murdered during the ice palace siege), and now Elsa wants to do the same thing for everyone and everything. even the monster who tried to burn them alive. even the monster who killed their parents. even the truth that makes monsters of them all and dooms their entire kingdom. it’s something she’s willing to die for, because Elsa knows–more than anyone else*–that no one deserves to be locked up.
it’s just the person she is. it’s just the love she wields.
*except for Rapunzel, Quasimodo, Cinderella etc etc

THIS AU IS BASED OFF THE F2 BOOK “ FOREST OF SHADOWS “ ! IT WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL ! THIS AU CAN BE ADDED TO ANY VERSE
in nordic folklore , there existed the famous being known as the nattmara . the mara ( or nightmare , as is the english word for them ) is a shape-shifting entity . as black sand they could slip through the slightest crack in the wood of a wall and terrorize the sleeping . livestock and other animals , when touched by the mara , would have their hair or fur turn white and energy drained --- causing them to fall into a never-ending sleep , while crops and flora would curl away from the mara and wilt , turning to ash . the nattmara is manifested from strong fear , feeding off of it and growing stronger .
Tumblr media
                          FOREST OF SHADOWS PLOT
when elsa was eight years old she had a nightmare that left her entire room covered in snow. to prevent her from having nightmares again , her mother taught her to imagine that she’s wrapping her fears up in a ball and give it to a constellation . as her favorite constellation was ulf the wolf , elsa would imagine that she was feeding her nightmares to it . while this stopped her from having nightmares afterwards , her expelled fears would mutate into a nattmara in the form of a white wolf .
as elsa represses her nightmares , the nattmara would haunt anna’s dreams to feed on her fears and grow stronger . anna first had a nightmare where the giant wolf was chasing her sister and devouring her after her accident in the ballroom that led to elsa and anna’s separation .
One week before the story ( a month before the events of frozen 2 ) , anna became distraught that elsa was planning to go on her grand tour ( where she would travel the worlds and visit the other kingdoms ) without her . fearful that it was because elsa didn’t need or trust her , the nattmara returned and continued to haunt her dreams and feed on her fears , as well as simultaneously continuing to devour elsa’s fear of not being a good enough queen .
growing stronger from the fear of two scared sisters , the nattmara began to take form in the real world as a blight . over the next few days animals began to fall asleep ( accompanied by white fur ) and wouldn’t wake up . shortly after crops began to wilt and arendelle's food rations began to deplete . this both caused the entire kingdom to be placed into a state of panic and caused elsa to become even more afraid . with this , the nattmara was finally strong enough to take form in the physical world , appearing right behind anna ( coincidentally right after she read a “ spell ” designed to make dreams come true , making it believe it was her fault ) .
the nattmara then proceeded to chase elsa to feed on her fear . Everyone who came into contact with the wolf while sleeping would be placed into a deep sleep filled with nightmares and erupt with a frenzy when awoken . the nattmara would chase elsa and the gang to the black mountains when they were trying to find the REVOLUTE blade , believing it could kill the creature . whenever elsa would try to fight it , the nattmara would evade her attacks by turning into black sand and grow stronger . after finding the revolute blade in the tumulus hidden under the fjord , elsa tried to fight the nattmara , which was roaming arendelle , using the blade . this attempt was unsuccessful and resulted in the blade being crushed by the nattmara . after this , nattmara took control of elsa and imprisoned her in a nightmare .
anna returned to save elsa , where the nattmara was circling elsa as black sand , causing her nightmares of failing as queen and feeding on her fear . realizing the nattmara’s true nature , anna told elsa that she is a great queen and her role model . as elsa overcame her fear the nattmara shrank to the size of a puppy before disintegrating , leaving a single speck of black sand behind , which elsa then encased in an ice-cube and kept with her always to acknowledge her fear .
                                      MY VERSION IN THIS AU
this au can take two paths : elsa fleeing the kingdom and having to constantly evade and run from her fears ; aka the nattmara ---- OR ---- the nattmara possessing elsa’s body and becoming one together .
now with the possession route it can also have two different versions ( i know im complex with this ) : the nattmara has constant control over elsa’s body or them having dual control where when elsa starts to feel fear the nattmara takes over .
in actual folklore the mara is to be that of a young woman in a nightgown with pale skin and dark black hair . meaning the creature would go by she/her pronouns ---- but with this mara being a shape-shifter there really is no gender to it . when the mara speaks through elsa it tends to say “us” or “we” since there is two beings within the body ; the nattmara and the fifth spirit ( aka: elsa ) . as i write the entity i will use they/them pronouns .
when nattmara is in control there is no ice magick . elsa’s magick all turns to that of black sand ( though in the story the ice was also black but i would like to think the sand was so condensed that it made something solid ) .
a clear sign that the mara has taken over is with the eyes ; turning from crystalline blues to glowing lupin gold . when the mara is not trying to hide itself there will be black sand escaping from any pockets or sleeves or even the eyes . when elsa becomes possessed she’s thrust into a nightmare state and when coming back she has no memory of what happened while she was in the nightmare .

“Into the Unknown! – Part I”
Author Noel Pinnock, B.S., M.P.A., C.A., CCC
www.noelpinnock.com
Merriam-Webster (MW) defines “mind,” in the noun tense, as the element or complex of elements in an individual that feels, perceives, thinks, wills, and reason. Furthermore, MW defines “set” as to put, lay, or stand (something) in a specified place or position. When you concatenate these words, we arrive at mindset. This compound word is so powerful that it can drive countries as well as individuals, alike, into mass turmoil or elevate them to great prosperity. The interesting thing about mindset is that it vacillates because its nature is predicated on situations and circumstances. We all have internal processes that govern our growth and development. Some may have a fixed mindset; therefore, growth and development can be limited. While others have a learning mindset and adjustments are made along our life’s journey. Whether fixed or learning, a mindset  is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people and can also be seen as arising out of a person's world view or philosophy of life. Our mindset or logic box is our collection of knowledge, attitudes, skills, and habits (KASH) that often limit our perception and acts as a restriction on objective thought and creative expression. What is in your mindset? What are your views and perspectives that have eroded some of your best intentions with unintended consequences?
In 1972, one of the best-known slogans in public-service was “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” The United Negro College Fund ran this slogan in print, radio, and television as an intentional campaign to close a persistent gap between African Americans and other groups in college completion. They understood then as we know today that in a land that is constantly going through entropy only the learned will survive. We can no longer rest on the scaffold of mediocrity and not take the leap into the unknown.
The animated movie Frozen 2 was a mega-billion dollar hit at the box office and the soundtrack was equally successful on the music charts. One song, most notably, Into the Unknown, aligns with the perspectives of this article, in huge part because we fear what we don’t know, and many don’t ever like asking questions because it will make others believe that we don’t know thus the paradox.  Check out the first to verses of the song:
“I can hear you but I won't Some look for trouble while others don't There's a thousand reasons I should go about my day And ignore your whispers which I wish would go away.
You're not a voice, you're just a ringing in my ear And if I heard you, which I don't, I'm spoken for I fear Everyone I've ever loved is here within these walls I'm sorry, secret siren, but I'm blocking out your calls I've had my adventure, I don't need something new I'm afraid of what I'm risking if I follow you”
These words are very powerful for a seminal audience to comprehend but if you dissect its meaning, you will understand the humanistic nature of individuals whose mindset has been hindered or restricted because they don’t want to leave the porch, get out of the boat, or take the leap into the unknown. The unknown is scary and unpredictable. It isn’t something that we are used to. We prefer routine and certainty but as I have always told my staff, certainty is the enemy and uncertainty an ally. Our 10-year old daughter sang this song so much during the Frozen 2’s hey-day that I became so curious that I woke one early Saturday morning to watch it for myself.
The movie’s plot was rich, and it captivated me. Elsa the Snow Queen has an extraordinary gift -- the power to create ice and snow. But no matter how happy she is to be surrounded by the people of Arendelle, Elsa finds herself strangely unsettled. After hearing a mysterious voice call out to her, Elsa travels to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom -- an adventure that soon turns into a journey of self-discovery. Synoptically, Elsa discovers that the voice calling to her was the memory of young Iduna's call; that her powers were given to her by nature because of Iduna's selfless act of saving Agnarr; and that Elsa herself is the fifth spirit who would break the water dam that would save their kingdom.
You see, the voice calling Elsa (like you and me) into the unknown was challenging her mindset and comfort zone. She was doing just fine after Frozen 1 but there was an agitation that persisted and kept her up at night, trepidatious and reluctant to escape from the comfort the has confined her perspectives. We all get comfortable and enjoy what comfort brings. Many people see comfort as an adjective, describing an attribute or something, when, in fact, comfort is a noun.
Comfort enters your home as a guest, remains as your host, and will eventually become your master. Comfort is a silent killer and has been charged with homicides in careers, families, marriages, and almost every place imaginable where growth and development are quintessential factors to success. Our limited KASH affects our ability to create or solve problems in two important ways: it heavily influences the kind of opportunities or problems that we recognize as being important enough to create (opportunities) and/or solve (problems); and it influences the analysis of the potential (opportunities) and cause (problems) and therefore the proper course of action to maximize the opportunities in life or to minimize the duplication of problems that have been solved in our past. What’s the definition of insanity? There, you got it, doing the same thing while expecting different results or better yet…being fearful of entering the unknown.
Our mindset should be challenged. We should have a desire to grow but that’s not innate in us. Physically speaking, our bodies do this on the regular. When we are hot, our bodies don’t sit there and internally combust. No, our bodies respond to the external stimuli by sweating to ensure we don’t overheat and dehydrate in the process. If the hairs in our nose tickle a bit, we sneeze. In other words, our bodies respond to external forces and are not going to be suppressed by anything.
Like our physical nature, our psyche (not psychic) nature, which comprises of our mind, will, and emotions should, like a thermostat, adjust to the external environment to maintain the proper climate in our lives. To do this we must be committed to the foundational premise of continuous learning and development. Without challenging ourselves, we subscribe to an internal newsletter whose content never changes. Imagine that, picking up a magazine and reading the same articles over and over again. Certainly, the cure to insomnia. So, if you want to challenge your mindset and are daring to enter the unknown to discover and unlock your internal talents and gifts, you must evict comfort because comfort is the enemy of change. Not to mention, we must dismiss the notion that nobody likes “change” but a wet baby.
Apostle Paul, whose mindset was drastically change on the Damascus Road, wrote that we are not to be conformed to the ways of the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds or mindset. He realized, like we should, that transformation doesn’t end with age or experience, but it continues daily as we invent and reinvent ourselves. If you can agree with this, then you must establish parameters to keep your mind percolating and hungry for more.
Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim the English Channel in 1926, on her second attempt. 19-year-old Gertrude Ederle swam 21 miles from Dover, England, to Cape Griz-Nez across the English Channel, which separates Great Britain from the northwestern tip of France. On August 6, 1926, Ederle entered the water at Cape Gris-Nez in France at 7:08 a.m. to make her second attempt at the Channel. The water was predictably cold as she started out that morning, but unusually calm. Twice that day, however–at noon and 6 p.m.–Ederle encountered squalls along her route and Burgess urged her to end the swim. Ederle’s father and sister, though, who were riding in the boat along with Burgess, agreed with Ederle that she should stay the course. Ederle’s father had promised her a new roadster at the conclusion of the swim, and for added motivation he called out to her in the water to remind her that the roadster was only hers if she finished. Ederle persevered through storms and heavy swells, and, finally, at 9:04 p.m. after 14 hours and 31 minutes in the water, she reached the English coast, becoming the sixth person and first woman to swim the Channel successfully. Furthermore, she had bettered the previous record by two hours.
Afterwards, Ederle told Alec Rutherford of The New York Times, “I knew it could be done, it had to be done, and I did it.” She went on to say that she was successful the second time around, not because of the incentives outlined by her father but because she possessed a mindset that failure was not an option. She started the journey with intentionality to reaching the English coast. It was in her mind from the beginning even though she felt like giving up and her body became fatigued. She was set on not breaking the record but breaking up the comfort in her mindset that would oftentimes tell her she wasn’t capable, or the feat was impossible.
What has kept you anchored in a position of mediocrity? What has prevented you from going to the next level? I can guarantee you this…that something would be your mind. The richest place on the planet, found in every place across the globe, is the graveyard – filled with so many people who could have, would have, and should have, but for many (not all) were scared to enter the unknown. I am inspired by these words myself, and will likely archive this article because I, like you, will no longer be afraid to enter the unknown, because when we are there, we can unlock some of our life’s greatest experiences and moments. There I say again, let’s #getatit!

Ahtohallan, Iduna and the Voice
Ahtohallan is an integral part to the Frozen 2 story and I want to analyse Elsa’s inner thoughts about Ahtohallan. Much of this post is based on headcanon, so if you disagree or would like to offer a different perspective, do reach out in the comments! Long post ahead.
As an 8 year old
Tumblr media
Elsa first hears of Ahtohallan when Iduna sings the lullaby, All is Found. To Elsa, Ahtohallan is just a legend at this point. Nobody believes it is real, not even Iduna. Ahtohallan/All is Found is associated with happiness and hope to 8 year old Elsa, as the lullaby comforts her after she had just received a somber history lesson from Agnarr with grave consequences for her as future queen, but also as a little girl not understanding why she alone had powers. I covered that in this analysis.
Between 8 and 18 years old
Tumblr media
In my headcanon, the trauma of Anna’s accident and the subsequent isolation of Elsa affected Iduna and Elsa so much that Iduna probably never sang the lullaby or mentioned Ahtohallan again to Elsa. Also, Agnarr’s instruction was to “conceal, don’t feel” so I guess Iduna did not want to stir up magical thoughts in Elsa.
18-21 years old - from Iduna’s death till the events of Frozen 1
Tumblr media
Devastated by the death of Iduna (and Agnarr) and being thrust into her role as Queen, Elsa probably completely forgot about Ahtohallan and the lullaby. Unknown to the audience in F1, Iduna had researched on Ahtohallan and concluded that it was a real place beyond the Dark Sea. F2 revealed to us her annotations on the map that was found in the ill-fated ship.
The 3 years after F1 till just before Frozen 2
As a result of Anna’s great love and sacrifice, Elsa opened up and experienced love again and re-connected with Anna. The endless conversations they must have had, would surely have included the topic of their parents. Just think, they had 10 years of different experiences with their parents to share with each other! Additionally, at some point, Elsa discovered Iduna’s scarf and it would have brought back memories of Iduna’s presence, scent, songs, and Ahtohallan. So at this point, Elsa associates the Ahtohallan legend as part of the cloud of memories she has of Iduna.
F2: Balcony + Bedroom scene
Tumblr media
In my headcanon, Elsa was reminiscing Iduna singing the lullaby while at the balcony, as evidenced by her dreamy look which turns into a wistful smile. She was distracted enough by the memory that Kai’s sudden address to her (“Your Majesty”) could cause her to freeze the parapet. (I believe that Elsa in F2 had gotten control of her powers) In the bedroom, such a sweet scene, Anna soothes Elsa by singing their mother’s lullaby to her and stroking her forehead and nose. Ahtohallan is still a legend associated with the memory of Iduna.
Hearing the Voice
Tumblr media
Elsa hears the Voice calling her on the balcony, during the charades game, in her dreams before Into the Unknown, throughout ITU, while sleeping in the wagon and while making friends with Bruni. She quickly realises that she is the only who hears it and she associates the Voice with the Enchanted Forest, because of what she saw during ITU and because the Voice woke her when it was time to enter the forest at the stone pillars of the spirits. She doesn’t know who the voice belongs to, yet.
Honeymaren scene
Tumblr media
Honeymaren introduces the legend of the Fifth Spirit and that some heard it call out the day the forest fell. Elsa starts to form an association between the Voice and the Fifth Spirit. Note that while Honeymaren makes a reference to Ahtohallan here, the way she says it implies that she doesn’t believe it exists either.
The Ship scene (1)
Tumblr media
In this pivotal scene, Ahtohallan, an unimportant legend that Elsa has known for the past 16 years, suddenly becomes a reality. Take a moment to let that sink in. Now consider that the one who reveals it is Iduna. This is very significant for Elsa. The story would have been very different if someone else, eg a Northuldran, or Gale, had told Elsa about Ahtohallan, or say for example if the girls had found a Northuldran artifact like a scroll or wood carving etc. Suddenly, Elsa is electrified by the knowledge that Ahtohallan exists and that Iduna was trying to find it, to help Elsa deal with her powers.
The Ship scene (2)
Tumblr media
But before Elsa (and us, the audience) has had time to let that sink in, she decides rather hastily to use her new powers to generate memories from the water in the ship. The filmmakers chose the image of Agduna at the point of their death for devastating emotional effect. I think Elsa must have regretted doing it because it reopened old wounds.
Tumblr media
Anna (lovethawmode), summons her mightiest love to comfort Elsa, reaffirms her belief in Elsa and brings Elsa out of a depression spiral. A composed Elsa puts two and two together and concludes that the Voice/Fifth Spirit is in Ahtohallan and Ahtohallan is the next destination.
==
Before I discuss the climax in Show Yourself, let me first state that in my headcanon, neither Elsa or Anna remembers the third, foreshadowing, verse of All is Found:
Where the north wind meets the sea There's a mother full of memory Come, my darling, homeward bound When all is lost, then all is found
They only can remember the earlier parts, and this ties in to my headcanon that Iduna never sang it again after the accident. Elsa is not expecting to see Iduna in Ahtohallan at all. At all.
==
Show Yourself (1) - Approaching Ahtohallan
Tumblr media
After taming the Nokk, Elsa glimpses Ahtohallan for the first time. She hears the Voice call her again and she sheds a tear because she senses a presence as she nears Ahtohallan, and that presence is touching her from deep within.
Something is familiar Like a dream I can reach but not quite hold I can sense you there Like a friend I've always known I'm arriving And it feels like I am home
These lyrics could be interpreted to be describing Iduna. Of course the lyrics have dual meaning and could be interpreted to be Elsa sensing herself and who she’s always been meant to be (Fifth Spirit) since birth, which was taken away from her by fear.
Show Yourself (2) - Coronation as Fifth Spirit

As she enters and goes deeper into Ahtohallan, she sees the elements 1) carved in ice pillars 2) as four beams of light that shine when she sings the call 3) and as their avatars made out of glowing lights, merging into the four crystals. It becomes clear to Elsa that the place in the centre of the crystals is meant for her. She, Elsa, is the Fifth Spirit. She has always been the Fifth Spirit (not only at this moment, her coronation is just confirmation). But the Voice doesn’t belong to the Fifth Spirit. The Voice belongs to... ... ...
Show Yourself (3) - Convergence
Tumblr media
IDUNA. Yes, at the end of 16 years, Ahtohallan, Iduna and the Voice all converge! They were never separate at all. There is such great joy when Elsa sees adult Iduna singing “Come my darling homeward bound!” to her that she trembles and the tears just flow freely. Elsa 1) has found an answer to why she has powers 2) is assured of her mother’s love for her 3) has found Ahtohallan, which means she can A) always access her happy memories of Iduna and B) discover the truth about the Arendelle-Northuldra war and free the forest.

Final headcanons about Iduna, the Voice and Iduna in Ahtohallan: First and foremost, I believe Iduna has passed away for good (unless F3 changes that!!!) and she’s not alive as a spirit/ghost. I believe young Iduna came up with the call (ah-ah-ah-ah) to call Gale, and Ahtohallan chose to use the same call to call Elsa. Yes, I believe Ahtohallan is the one who has been calling her all along and I believe the four spirits are working in partnership with Ahtohallan to bring Elsa to Ahtohallan, albeit first testing her powers to make sure she is “worthy”.
For the climax of Show Yourself in Ahtohallan, I believe that Iduna is not actually singing to Elsa; she has passed away and we are seeing Elsa’s memories - the memory of Iduna singing “come my darling homeward bound” comes from the very same night that Iduna sang the lullaby. For the other lines (duet with Elsa):
Show yourself Step into your power Throw yourself Into something new
You are the one you've been waiting for
Actually, we only hear Iduna’s voice, because the image of Iduna is just smiling at Elsa as Elsa’s dress transforms and she twirls in delight. So I think one possible explanation is that Ahtohallan is letting Elsa hear a memory of Iduna saying/singing these words to her. As to when exactly Iduna said those words, I have 2 explanations: 1) Iduna said these words to Elsa when Elsa was self-isolating and struggling with her powers; but Elsa did not remember Iduna saying them as she was too anguished; or 2) Elsa never heard Iduna say these words, possibly because A) Elsa had fallen asleep after the lullaby and Iduna said these words to a sleeping Elsa or B) when Elsa shut everyone out of her life, Iduna might have stood outside Elsa’s door, crying silently and whispering these words. Ahtohallan is able to show Elsa events that Elsa herself did not witness, the most obvious example being Runeard murdering the Northuldran leader.

❝ forgive you ? for what ? ❞ she questions , worried glance towards her sister. Anna is usually the more confident of the two - at least from Elsa's perspective. she finds now that perhaps that is not so. but there must be a reason for this change. hence , the glance towards her sister. she reaches a hand out towards her. ❝ you can talk to me. no more closed doors , remember ? ❞
