The speeder pulled up to park beside the big old garage and Dad stepped out.
“Hi!” Luke yelled down.
As usual, he couldn’t startle Dad, who angled a knowing look up into the tree with a grin.
“Hello, Luke. You got higher today I see.”
“Yep!”
“You going to stay up there or do I get a hug?”
Luke decided to show Dad just how fast he could come down and flung himself from branch to branch.
He could sense that Dad was impressed if a little nervous about how reckless he was being.
At the last one though, his fingers slipped and he fell.
Instinctively, he put out both hands to break the plunge…
A breath.
The world was quiet but Luke could hear the bugs going about their business in the dirt. The creek behind the house was suddenly highlighted in his ears. The sound of a Thune chewing its cud was almost deafening.
He opened first one screwed shut eye and then the other.
Between his outstretched hands he could see the dirt patch at the base of the tree where he and Leia always started for their climbs.
But it was a good eight feet below him.
“Luke….” Dad said a little unsteadily. “How are you doing that?”
He was floating in mid air. He could sense Leia’s awe and Mom’s shock.

I’m planning on writing a Vaderdala fic about Padmé trying to save Anakin and bring him back to the light with the love she knows he has for his wife and kids, and also the love they have for him instead of it being about Padmé trying to hide and run from Vader to protect her kids from his wrath. (because that’s so OOC) Vader wouldn’t have gone as far as he does if he knew that Padmé and his babies were alive. Padmé would never run away from Anakin, she’d do everything in her power to save him. And yes, all this could go in line with the narrative that Padmé joins the Rebellion and would want to fight on the forefront of it all.

I believe this arc reveals a little too much about Sidious hand and future plans and I don´t think is quite ic for him to do so, he made Cad Bane kidnap those kids to raise them as sith acolytes but this revealed too much his influence on the clone wars given he keep the babies at Mustafar to raise them but I loved seeing Ahsoka and Anakin team up to rescue them.

The Star Wars fandom is like a case study of what happens when you overthink media intended for children to the point that you’ve completely altered the message and plot that the creator intended. The whole “the Jedi order is evil and Anakin/Vader is the good guy!” Idea fails to take into account the fact that like.. these movies are meant for kids, they’re meant to be easy to follow and easy to understand with obvious good guys and obvious bad guys. Yknow how we know the Jedi are the good guys? - they’re the main characters, they have funny one liners, they kill the evil bad guys who have red laser swords with their blue and green laser swords, they’re relatable, they’re nice, they’re paternal, so on so forth.
I love critical analysis and I’d never speak a word against it, when we consume media we should always take a step back to consider what ideas they’re selling us, what undertones are portrayed, is this supposed to represent a real life problem? But it’s also equally as important to consider who the audience is and how that might impact the story. And ultimately the audience is children, Star Wars is not meant to be a mystery thriller where the good guys are secretly the bad guys which you can only tell when you pick the story apart 20 which ways. The movies could not more clearly tell us who were meant to support. - is it the angry guys with red swords, ugly old guy who shoot’s lighting out of his fingers and takes over the universe, people who blow up planets, chop off their kids hands and blow up planet’s? Or is it the people who wear warm coloured clothing, talk about wanting peace, who tell funny jokes, have heartfelt moments, with blue and green lightsabers, fight against the space fascists and love each other.
Ultimately, Star Wars isn’t that deep, enjoy it for what it is and I promise you’ll enjoy it 100 times more

I have been drifting back to STAR WARS fandom lately and I have been greatly rewarded for it, especially in the gen fic veins, because there have been some banger fics authors have been putting out! And the thing that really gets me in the fannish heart is that there's more and more fics about the Jedi, both for exploring the characters and the culture. I have been able to find multiple fics that have been kind to Mace Windu! I have been able to find multiple fics that explain what attachment actually is to the Jedi and to Star Wars! I have been able to find multiple fics that lift my spirit up or punch me in the feelings in exactly the right way, both for the usual disaster lineage faves, but also for the Jedi as a whole. I'm serious, that means the world to me in this fandom, and I desperately want to share that with you all. LET ME SHOVE FIC AT YOU THAT LOVES THESE CHARACTERS AND THIS WORLD AS MUCH AS I DO!!
FICS THAT PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE WITH HOW GOOD THEY WERE: ✦ wayfinding by night by wrennette, obi-wan & luke & cast, time travel, 10.2k     Before him stood a fellow Jedi, worn and weary with loss. Obi-Wan finds himself on Ahch-To and helps Luke find a path through his grief. ✦ may you inherit his light by notbecauseofvictories, leia & bail & anakin & cast, 2.5k     When your father dies, say the Coruscanti, you are left clutching a star map for a different galaxy. In this, as in many things, Leia is her fathers' daughter. ✦ No Freedom From the Storm (But Peace In Its Midst) by Be_Right_Back, mace & cast, ~1k     Mace is freefalling. On his way down, he meets Hatred, and reaches for Serenity. ✦ "...if you remain his student" by Peppermint_Shamrock, anakin & ahsoka & cast, 3.9k     Ahsoka doesn't leave the Jedi Order. This does not save Anakin. This was never going to save Anakin. Nor stop him. ✦ a distant fire is burning by e_va, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & cal, time travel, 47.4k wip     Cal Kestis can move backwards in time (kinda-sorta-not really), and his confrontation with Darth Vader in the Fortress Inquisitorius plays out a lot differently. Fixing the timeline while stuck in his 10-year-old body will be quite the task, but Cal is up to it. He has to be. (Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the clone troopers have no idea what to make of Kenobi's weird new padawan. At least the kid fits in, though.) ✦ No Death, Only the Force by ExtraPenguin, anakin & mace & depa & shmi, 2.8k     Anakin Skywalker is just about to to free his mother from the Tuskens when the Force rudely yanks him to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant – and into Mace Windu's body. Mace, on the other hand, gets tossed into Anakin's body on Tatooine. ✦ Well Met by avocadomoon, obi-wan/padme (unconsumated) & corde & anakin, 19k     "Here and then gone again," Padmé said. "It must be lonely." "Sometimes," Obi-Wan said. "But a Jedi is never truly alone."
THIS FANDOM HAS A HAMMER AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF NAILS AND A REALLY GOOD STAPLE GUN, WE'RE FIXING WHAT CANON BROKE AND NOBODY CAN STOP US NOT EVEN GOD: ✦ Begin again by mauvera, obi-wan & qui-gon & anakin & padme & mace & dooku & cast, time travel, 78.9k     Five years into his self imposed exile on Tattooine, Obi-Wan Kenobi is gifted the chance to go back and bring hope back to the galaxy. With hindsight on his side, he fully intends to save his master, save his padawan, make some new and old friends again, prepare the Jedi for a war they’ll hopefully never see and begin to pull apart all the many tangled threads of the Sith Lord’s plans. ✦ Repetition by Peppermint_Shamrock, cody & obi-wan, time loop, 3k     Cody wakes up from a nightmare on the way to Utapau, again and again.
CANON-COMPLIANT (MOSTLY, UP TO A CERTAIN POINT, WHATEVER) DISASTER LINEAGE: ✦ it's like i can feel time moving by gigglesandfreckles, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 5.4k     “Hi,” Anakin says. It's after midnight. “Is everything alright?” “Can’t a man stop by his old master’s room?” Obi-Wan stares at him blankly. “Are you out of food?” ✦ yes, I will take you / I will love you, again by foreverstudent, obi-wan & anakin & cast, time travel, 2.5k     "So you have tried, Padawan." Qui-Gon takes a moment, and his expression is steely but not unkind--the one Obi-Wan remembers from particularly grueling training sessions. "Would you try again, if you had the chance?" OWK!Obi-Wan gets another chance, with a child he once left behind. ✦ No Good Deed Goes Unpunished by kittona, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 1.1k     Anakin gets a bit overprotective when his loved ones are sick. Luckily, he has the best home remedy for a cold. ✦ nothing a cup of tea can't fix by gigglesandfreckles, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 1.5k     when Anakin shows up to Obi-Wan's quarters in the middle of the night, the Jedi Master knows something has gone awry. answering Anakin's desperate cry for help, Obi-Wan is reminded of how very, very prone to dramatics his former padawan and grand padawan are. or Ahsoka gets sick and Anakin flips his shit. ✦ Stick Figures by KCKenobi, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 2k     war is hard. war is draining. to make it more bearable, little mementos* are routinely given. *mementos: encouraging notes, funny little drawings, little gifts, fun snacks, and poems which might get Anakin in trouble. ✦ When the Ground Breaks by stolen_pen_name23, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 4.7k     An earthquake causes devastation on the planet of Berchest. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka work together to help save civilians until disaster pulls them apart. ✦ never fear, young one by marverse, obi-wan & ahsoka & cast, 6.2k     Ever since her first day of being a padawan, Ahsoka Tano remembers the words that Master Skywalker had once told her. And every time, she wonders, wonders, and wonders. ✦ the street's a little kinder when you're home by gigglesandfreckles, obi-wan & anakin, 5.2k     "So catch me up," Anakin says. "What did I miss?” Nothing. Nothing happens when you’re gone. “Oh, the usual.” [or: anakin goes missing. obi-wan doesn't handle it well.] ✦ holding anchor by foreverstudent, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka, 3.2k     At the landing of Point Rain, an injured Obi-Wan allows himself to be sentimental over his former padawan, and Anakin patches up his old master. ✦ Nothing to Say by KCKenobi, obi-wan & anakin & satine, 3.2k     (or: Anakin and Satine don’t know how to talk to each other. Until they remember the very important thing they have in common.) ✦ Aggressive Negotiations by SkyBlue1309, obi-wan & anakin & cast, 2.2k     People forget that Anakin was raised by the Negotiator. He was bound to pick up on a thing or two. ✦ At The Window by Peppermint_Shamrock, obi-wan & anakin, ~1k     In the early days of Anakin's apprenticeship, Obi-Wan searches for him in the Temple. ✦ The Words by Ibelin, obi-wan & anakin, 3.9k     Obi-Wan Kenobi has never said I love you in his life. He can say a lot of other things, though.
JEDI CULTURE AND WORLDBUILDING AND CELEBRATION: ✦ Refractions of Light by Independence1776, ezra & kanan, 1.3k     Kanan celebrates a Jedi holiday with Ezra. ✦ The grand outing by Ingata, dooku & sifo-dyas & obi-wan & bant & garen & reeft & yoda & cast, 4.5k     Eight younglings and two Jedi masters on a field trip. What could possibly go wrong? ✦ into the statue that breathes by spoonks, obi-wan & feemor & cast, 8.5k     The night watch in the garden was supposed to be the calmest of them all. No mischievous Padawans “sneaking” in or out, or ne’er-do-well civilians conducting “business” around the lower-level entrances that they didn’t know existed. No the gardens was still, and it was like time was frozen in ice that slowly melted away with the rising of the sun. A slow drip, drip— Drip. Immediately Feemor turned towards the central waterfall. Someone was standing there. Whoever they were, they were small and moved through katas with their hands open like a greeting. ✦ The Temple vs. Order 66 by LauraBWrites, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & cody & jedi & jedi temple, 3.9k     The Temple cannot defy the Will of the Force. But it can, it will prepare for the possible outcomes. It can damn well fight back. ✦ We Three Runaways. by Aethir, obi-wan & depa & komari, 2.7k     In which Depa and Obi-Wan bond, and a new sister is found. ✦ A Short Break by Peppermint_Shamrock, luke & yoda, ~1k     Luke complains about his training, and asks about Jedi training of old. ✦ we are made of our longest days by bereft_of_frogs, obi-wan & anakin & cast, 4.4k     Two years after the events of The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan and his new apprentice are called to a remote moon to fetch a baby who’s showing signs of a rare, unique power. On their journey home, Obi-Wan reflects on the last child he brought to the Temple and catches a faint glimpse of three possibly entwining futures.
I AM A PREQUELS ERA BITCH AND I'M MAKING THAT EVERYONE ELSE'S PROBLEM: ✦ the salle at dawn by maragny, anakin & mace, 1.5k wip     Master Windu is the best duellist in the Jedi Order. When Anakin Skywalker is seventeen, he duels Mace for the first time, and it ruins both of them for anyone else. ✦ Saving People Counts as Revenge, Right? by ImperialKatwala, obi-wan & anakin & dooku, time travel, 4.3k wip     Count Dooku of Serenno is an intelligent man. His methods may be a bit severe, and he may not be allowed true freedom to plan campaigns in the war he helped create, but he has always had an eye for strategy. Moving the pieces around the board and plotting out where they will need to be next. So, when he opens his eyes after Anakin Skywalker cut his head off, he knows to take a moment to assess what’s going on. ✦ if I could find solid ground again by maragny, anakin & depa, 1.5k     “You never told me what we’re doing today,” Anakin says, a little hesitant. “I…I don’t know much about Jedi things yet.” "Good thing we’re not doing Jedi things, then,” Depa replies. “We’re cooking!” Or, Anakin and Depa, finding their places in their family. ✦ Birds Fly in Different Directions by Triscribe, jedi & clones, time travel, 14.6k     In the corridor beyond her quarters, other Jedi were emerging from their own doors, most of them wide-eyed with shock. A few merely looked blearily concerned, and Aayla heard snatches of questions as she darted past, queries as to whether everyone experienced the same distressing vision. But those who clutched at their chests or throats, their weak points- those Jedi bore a muted horror in their eyes, and Aayla didn’t doubt they’d just suffered their own betrayals from trusted men.
✦ The Master, The Padawan, and The Force by Pandora151, padme & ahsoka, 1.9k     Padmé Naberrie was never one to procrastinate. More than that, she maintained a steady, consistent schedule — something that she’d managed to keep ever since she was a Padawan. She was always on top of everything, from her responsibilities with the war to training her own Padawan, Ahsoka. She was well-known throughout the Order for being steady, reliable. And most notably, no matter what, she didn’t just forget things. Which made her current situation all the more…ridiculous. ✦ Off-by-one Error by Jessepinwheel, obi-wan & cast, 12.2k     A stranger appears in the Jedi Temple. Nobody knows who he is or where he came from. Nobody knows what has happened to him except that it must have been something truly terrible. The stranger's name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. ✦ splinters of light by wrennette, dooku & jocasta & sifo-dyas & yoda & jaster & jango & cast, time travel, 22.5k     When Dooku's dying consciousness was sent back into his younger body, at first he remembered only that something important would happen on Korda VI, and soon. His investigations brought both clarity and confusion, and a conviction that he must atone for evils not yet enacted. ✦ The Road that Reaches by ExtraPenguin, anakin & mace & yoda & depa & shmi, 11.5k     As the Council sits down on Naboo to consider the newly-knighted Obi-Wan Kenobi's request to take young Anakin Skywalker as his padawan, they're informed of what transpired on Tatooine – and that Anakin used to be a slave. Mace Windu goes to interview the young child to confirm this, and gets rather more than he signed up for. ✦ the salle at dawn by maragny, anakin &/ mace, 5.1k     Master Windu is the best duellist in the Jedi Order. When Anakin Skywalker is seventeen, he duels Mace for the first time, and it ruins both of them for anyone else. ✦ through the dark (like two flames) by treescape, kanan/cal & quinlan, 5.3k     A Jedi found him on Bracca. Or, in the weeks after Order 66, Cal Kestis and Caleb Dume are reunited on Jabiim. Five years late, on the run from Inquisitors, they have a decision to make. ✦ Resilience by TemporaryUniverse, obi-wan & mace, 3.3k     Twelve years after his defeat at the Battle of Naboo, Obi-Wan's greatest enemy has returned from the dead. Obi-Wan has faced Maul and lost. Now it is time to face himself. ✦ The Buried Truth is Your Favorite Lie by Peppermint_Shamrock, dooku & yoda, ~1k     Dooku tries and fails to leave the past behind. ✦ Hanging On by the Last Threads of Our Hope by IllyanaA, ahsoka & rex, 5.2k     Ahsoka and Rex have endured too much. After the Fall, they stay together until they can't, but the Force has a way of bringing them back together. It's a fact for which both of them are immeasurably grateful.
MULTIGENERATIONAL STAR WARS IS THE BEST STAR WARS: ✦ Future Tense by CeruleanTactician, obi-wan & anakin & luke, time travel, 1.4k     Obi-Wan and Anakin find themselves twenty years in the future, where they meet a young man by the name of Luke Skywalker. ✦ Keepsakes by Coalmine301, obi-wan & leia, 2k     “You were the one who gave me my bantha, weren’t you?” “Yes,” Obi-wan nodded with a small smile. “Your father told me they were your favorite animal. At least then it was.” ✦ Why the Sith Don't Have Class Reunions by Peppermint_Shamrock, anakin & palpatine & maul & dooku & ventress, time travel, 1.9k     Sith apprentices rarely agree with one another (there’s a reason for the Rule of Two, after all), but Darth Sidious is starting to think that it’s worse when they do. ✦ My Dear Padawan by Tulak_Hord, luke & yoda & palpatine, time travel, 3.2k     In which a time-travelling Luke Skywalker successfully saves the Galaxy in perhaps the most horrifying manner imaginable. ✦ The Return by Pandora151, obi-wan & leia & haja, 1.4k     Haja wonders about the others. He wonders about the people he’s sent to the Path from Daiyu — not just Kenobi and the Princess, but that Force-sensitive boy and his mother, the Nautolan teenager from a few weeks ago, the young Kel Dor child and his even younger siblings. Did they all make it home? Are they safe? Was all of this worth it? ✦ Message From Guiding Light by Batsutousai, obi-wan & leia & mace, time travel, 2.2k     Ben and Leia never make it to Mapuzo on the borrowed supply shuttle, instead finding themselves in the middle of the Clone Wars.
FRIENDSHIP WITH CANON ENDED, THIS COOL AU IS MY NEW BEST FRIEND NOW: ✦ Not A Moment Too Soon by Triscribe, depa & kanan & cast, 2k     The first time she stumbled, her padawan said nothing, simply offering his shoulder for her to lean on. ✦ Parallel Lines by Pandora151, obi-wan & anakin, time travel, time loop, 10.7k     Darth Vader leans back in his chair, allowing a small smile to form on his lips, hidden by his helmet. “There is no escape from this, Obi-Wan,” he utters. He looks down at the neat line of text, and the Force echoes his words. “No escape from the past.” ✦ through the dark (like two flames) by treescape, ca/kanan & quinlan, 5.3k     A Jedi found him on Bracca. Or, in the weeks after Order 66, Cal Kestis and Caleb Dume are reunited on Jabiim. Five years late, on the run from Inquisitors, they have a decision to make. ✦ Loth-Cats and Loth-Rats by TessaDoesThings, mace & depa & kanan & ezra, 19k     All Mace Windu wanted out of the Post-Clone Wars world was a simple trip with his lineage to the long-forgotten Jedi Temples of the Outer Rim. However, on Lothal, the three might have bitten off more than they expected. The Republic may have triumphed, but the roots of what could have become the empire are gripped in the corners of the galaxy, and it might be time for some aggressive space weeding. Or a coup d'etat. That would work too. ✦ a princess, a farmer, a teacher by jesuisdeux, obi-wan & luke & leia & bail, 1.4k     Early in the morning, a girl and few men knock on a door. They don't wear anything resembling a soldier, but Obi-Wan has been a soldier long enough to notice the tense shoulders and wary looks beneath civilian clothing. She doesn't wear anything resembling a princess, but Obi-Wan knows these fierce eyes and grace coming from a righteous cause. or A New Hope AU where Vader doesn't attack Leia's ship and Leia herself delivers the news to Obi-Wan and consequently Obi-Wan doesn't die. ✦ What I Wouldn't Give To See Your Ghost by Triscribe , depa & kanan & cast, time travel, 1.2k     “Who are you?” Depa demanded, externally calm but internally frantic. “What is this place? And where is my padawan?” ✦ when that day comes by katierosefun, obi-wan & anakin & ahsoka & maul, modern au/reincarnation au, 44.8k     [or: the alternate universe where anakin skywalker has the chance at some new life…but only if he saves the life of a reincarnated obi-wan kenobi. the catch: neither of them know who the other was in the galaxy far, far away…but that might very well change.]

The best part about Luke Skywalker in my opinion, like the best part of his character, is that he's a good person first and foremost. Like the dude just wants to help and make things better for everyone.
And what I appreciate even more in star wars is that Luke wins exactly because of this. It isn't cuz he is destined to be a super powerful Jedi, it isn't cuz he's a great warrior. He doesn't win via a display of power, he won cuz he was being nice to Vader, and being nice to Vader is what brings Anakin back, it inspires Anakin to do the right thing to save Luke. Dude saves the galaxy because he's a nice guy. That's literally it.
Luke saves the galaxy because he was raised as a good person. The Jedi stuff was just bonus. Sure he's powerful and super force but at the base, what he remains is just a wholesome kid who wants everyone to smile. And that is precisely why he's one of my favourite heroes in all of fiction.

Family Business
“Agh!” Han yelped, wincing at the sizzling sound from the heat elements, and tried really hard not to think about what was actually making the sound.
They weren’t torturing him for information. They hadn’t asked any questions. They were just torturing him.
Han may not have had much faith in the idea of the Force, but nothing else had pulled his blaster out of his hand, and that led to an unfortunate, terrifying idea.
They were torturing him to get to the Kid.
“Why – aah!” he said. “Why are you-”
The technicians raised the temperature, and Han arched his back as he tried not to scream.
If they were trying to interrogate him, he’d have broken by now. Given whatever information they wanted to hear. Lied if he had to, just to make the pain stop-
That idea flashed through into something else, something more complicated, something even more desperate, and Han bore the pain for another few seconds until there was a brief, fleeting respite.
“I’m the king of Corellia!” he said, blurting it out, then panted for a second. “I’m – the direct, male-line descendant of – of Berethron e Solo!”
He went briefly limp, then saw that the technicians were conferring amongst themselves.
Less than a minute later, a minute of blessed relief, Darth Vader strode in.
“Explain,” he said.
“It’s – it’s like I said, if you got told what I said,” Han replied. “I’m a Solo, the – ah – the Corellian royal family gave up their throne by turning the empire into a democracy, but, it’s not like we vanished.”
Vader examined Han with an intense regard, and Han tried to focus on how his cousin Thrackan Sal-Solo had always put on airs, how their family had been much richer than his, how they’d fallen on hard times-
-and Vader turned away.
“Return him to the cell,” the Emperor’s enforcer said, bluntly.
Han tried not to sag with relief.
“You said what?” Leia asked.
“It was the only thing I could think of,” Han admitted. “Leia, I – I was losing my mind, I had to think of something. I’ve got a surname that’s pretty common on Corellia, but it was the last card I had left to play. And… and at this point I’m just glad of the break.”
“You know they’re trying to bring Luke here, right?” Leia asked. “It’s a trap and we’re the bait. This was never about us.”
“Yeah, with Boba Fett standing next to Vader and wanting to take me to Jabba I’m pretty sure that part was about me,” Han replied, wincing. “But… I don’t know. Maybe he just decided that he’d done enough, with how I’d gone crazy, or… whatever it was.”
There was a minute or so of silence.
“Did you have to come up with the idea that you were a king?” Leia asked. “Is this a rank thing, Mr. Scoundrel?”
“It’s not like I could claim to be the Emperor’s kid or something,” Han shot back. “Though that would probably be worse.”
Leia shuddered, then closed her eyes.
“Let me tell you a secret,” she said. “I was adopted.”
“You were?” Han asked. “...how did that work?”
“I don’t know, I was never told,” Leia admitted. “I have… the vaguest memories of my birth mother. Just impressions. She was… kind, but sad. I only really realized who that had to be when my father told me that I wouldn’t show up as genetically his daughter.”
Han nodded, in a vaguely understanding sort of way.
“Who knows?” he asked. “Maybe we’re both full of surprises.”
If the torture had been enough to bring Luke to the rescue, they didn’t hear about it.
Han hoped that it hadn’t been. He knew the Kid was off to learn how to be a Jedi, and they’d all have a better chance of rescue if the Kid actually knew what he was doing. But he worried.
Then, four days after the torture session, stormtroopers took them both to one of the audience chambers in Cloud City. Lando was there as well, hovering nervously, and something about the expression on his old friend’s face told Han that – Lando had been placed in an impossible position.
How could he place an old friend’s liberty over the liberty of an entire city, all responsible to him?
...well, Han would have tried to avoid being in that situation in the first place, but something like that wasn’t always possible.
“So, what’s the occasion?” Han asked.
“I have done significant amounts of research,” Vader replied. “Examined Corellian records. Compared genetic samples.”
Han tried not to wince.
Vader’s expressionless mask turned slightly from Han, to Leia, and then back again.
“King Solo,” he said. “What are your intentions towards my daughter?”
Those words hung in the air for several seconds.
“...um,” Lando began, slowly. “I’m sorry, but… what did you just say? None of that made any sense.”
“That is not my concern,” Vader replied. “I will repeat myself. King Solo, what are your intentions towards my daughter? It would not do to make her my apprentice after having permanently separated her from a royal to whom she was attached. Speaking from experience, that really kriffs you up.”
His head tilted slightly. “I may be able to give her some advice.”
“...you mean… I’m your daughter!?” Leia asked.
Stopped.
Blinked.
“How exactly is that possible?” she demanded. “I was adopted, but – how did – that doesn’t make any sense?”
“You’re saying I actually am-” Han said, at about the same time, then stopped because there was no way he was going to push his luck at this point.
“Incidentally,” Vader went on, as if he hadn’t just dropped several bombshells at once. “While we wait for King Solo to answer the question, daughter, you should consider contacting your brother to inform him of the situation. I will no longer be engaging in torture to lure him here for obvious reasons, but other means may work better.”
Han processed that and felt like falling over backwards.
“Suddenly I’m starting to wish I hadn’t said anything,” he muttered. “Any chance we can get Threepio in here?”
He glanced at Vader. “You know. The golden droid. I’d kind of like to have someone around who’s more confused than me.”
“Threepio,” Vader repeated. “C-3P0? That… actually makes a great deal of sense, now that I think about it. Obi-Wan must have taken…”
He trailed off.
“Oh. R2 is with my son. I… may need to take that into account…”
Han determinedly ignored the last few sentences, in favour of trying to work out a way to say ‘I love her’ that he could face saying and that wouldn’t end up with Darth Vader taking any annoyance out on him.

Rewatched Return of the Jedi and forgot how Han and Leia's romance sets up what unselfish love looks like to compare with in the prequels and also gives us context why love can be dangerous for a Jedi.
(Note: this isn't an!dala bashing I like an!dala)
With Han! (Yes! Han the non-Force sensitive.)
Han, we must remember has been out of the loop because of his Carbonite freezing, but even so he wakes up to: someone who loves you. Before that he had Leia declaring: I love you!
He gets very clear signs from Leia that she is in love with him. Like. Very clear out loud signs. In the Ewok village when they reunite they hug.
But he's still jealous of Luke.
So when he finds Leia crying after Luke says he's leaving to face Vader and that he's Leia's brother, his first reaction is jealousy. He gets mad when she refuses to tell him what's wrong. He accuses her of being able to tell Luke but not him, implying obviously she thinks Luke is more important to her.
His fear she doesn't love him back makes him angry.
You can see how it could lead to hate, this kind of situation. Hating Luke and Leia two people he adores because he thinks they're together, which would lead to him suffering unable to let go of his feelings for Leia and Leia suffering from his anger as well. He could destroy all their relationships with his anger, and he's just a normal non-Force sensitive guy.
And Luke and Leia aren't even a thing. He's just assuming! He's letting his emotions control him.
He's about to stomp away with a: bitter forget it! As she sobs.
But he stops! He stops giving into his negative emotions and he goes back to comfort her without demanding answers. He holds her because he loves her. He lets go of his negative emotions and possessive jealous feeling. His love is stronger than his fear.
Then on Endor he point blank asks her if she loves Luke. She answers Yes, not realizing unlike the Skywalkers he didn't get the memo from the Force about the family stuff.
And he is disappointed, but he says he'll step aside. He loves Leia and he's willing to let her go for her happiness.
That's what romantic love without possessive attachment looks like. He loves her. He puts his own initial negative emotions aside.
-
I always wondered why as a kid this was the romance I liked out of all other movie romances. (Usually I hated romance in things.)
At first I thought it was because there's not a lot of emphasis on it, but now I realised when Han has all the opportunities to do the classic Alpha Male stuff, he doesn't. In other movies he would have walked away and let her cry by herself to make drama. Have the stakes higher. They'd get together in the end but it would be after Han does something heroic and Leia throws herself at him or something. Which would make Leia a prize even though she never had to be.
But Return of the Jedi cuts through it. Han comes back, holds her even though she might not love him. That's incredibly powerful. That moment he holds her and apologizes and lets her cry and is there for her despite his jealously. Even now it's pretty refreshing considering the archetype people associate Han with.
And Han doesn't heroically save Leia to win her. They get held up. She has her gun ready to blast their attackers. They smile at each other. That's the moment he says the words I love you out loud. When she is about to save them.
It's obviously contrasted with Anakin and Padme.
Once again it is very clear how Padme feels. They both verbally reinforce their love for each other.
But Anakin isn't thinking of what Padme would want or asking what she would want. Through out the movie he's obsessed with the idea of her death. Letting himself be corrupted and ultimately killing people so that he doesn't have to feel losing her. Unlike Han, he puts his negative emotions and possession of her above his love for her.
And just like Return of the Jedi is different for Han coming back and holding her, Revenge of the Sith is different because usually movies emphasis all-consuming love as a good thing. Love so strong you would do anything to save them is shown as being selfish in RotS because Anakin does it. He does anything and everything. He makes himself unrecognizable.
He will stop at nothing to keep her. And then the moment he thinks Padme herself is the one trying to take herself away from him. When he thinks she's chosen the other side or Obi-Wan or however you interpret the moment and not him, he doesn't let her go. He doesn't love her enough to see her happy, he attacks her. That's what attachment does. It isn't about the love he truly feels for her, it's about the fear of losing her. His negative emotions ruling him. He lashes out and hurts the person he's supposed to be saving because it was about him, not about her. She became a prop. An icon of his fear of loss.
He wasn't acting on his love when he joins Sidious, he was acting on his fear. It is a selfish moment and ends in everyone suffering.
I can see why there was supposed to be more of a love triangle with them and Obi-Wan in the earlier concepts just to heighten the contrast with Leia and Han.
Han accepts that Leia chooses Luke (even though she didn't). He says he'll let her go to be happy.
Anakin accuses Obi-Wan of turning Padme against him (even though he hasn't). He attacks her when he thinks she's going to leave him.
Anakin's love by itself has never been the problem. It's what love so easily can become if darker emotions are controlling you. The Jedi forbid these kind of relationships because of the powers they hold and how easily love can turn to fear, anger, hatred, and suffering. And because they have powers most do not, how devastating that can be. Jedi learn emotional regulation so they don't get overwhelmed and hurt people. Palpatine made an effort to chip away at those teachings by using Anakin's trauma against him and encouraging him to dig into his negative emotions. That he's right for indulging in them and that it's human and normal to do so.
Sidious tries to do this with Luke. He's taking Luke's love for his friends and emotions and trying to get him to strike him. Use his fear to put him on the path to the Darkside. To give into his hatred and violence.
Then Luke remembers the cave. Killing Vader would be to kill himself, just as Anakin had once done. Winning the fight would be losing his soul.
He lets go of his fear for his friends and his hatred for Sidious and he refuses to fight. He sees the only way forward is love. That when Yoda said he must face Darth Vader before he can be a Jedi this is what he meant. In facing Vader he is facing his own darkness.
This is all to say the Jedi teaching doesn't only apply to Jedi. (I mean it's based on real world practices it's not just fantasy nonsense). But it makes sense that it's very important for Jedi.
This is also why I prefer the release viewing order. It gives a lot more context to the prequels that can get lost in the shuffle. Rather than trying to make prequel concepts fit for the OT, OT concepts are actually being expanded on in the PT. Looking at it the other way around is working backwards from the true starting point.
Tl;dr: Han shows what love without attachment looks like.
Thanks for coming to my blorbo talks.
As always YMMV.

Comfortably sat on the living room sofa, she waited for her husband. Though he would never admit it, he enjoyed having someone greet him after a long day. A familiar face to wash away the troubles of the day right when he walks through the door.
Truth be told, she needed it too. Working from home while taking care of two incredibly restless boys was exhausting, especially when both were terribly ill from a flu being passed around at school. Between runny noses, high fevers and tears; she clearly needed a break from being pulled in a million different directions.
The attendants scurry to open the door for him, quickly scrambling away right after, none wanting to be on the receiving end of his wrath.
The sound of Vader's ship landing snaps her out her trance rather abruptly. Looking out, she sees him storming out of it the moment the ship is secured on the landing pad. He was infuriated, his footsteps echoing loudly, a clear show of his anger.
Testing the waters, she gently calls out to him “Vader..?”.
She receives no reply. His body is unusually rigid, making the hairs on her body rise. Days like this would usually end with her laying on her back, legs spread and him mercilessly pounding away at her. Not that she minds, but tonight she prays that it wouldn't be the case, she barely had any energy left. Vader undeniably enjoyed fucking the living daylights out of his wife.
Usually, he would give her a chaste kiss on the lips or cheek before grabbing her hand to retire to their bedroom. He wouldn't ask for much, just some help with his suit and sometimes a bath. On some occasions, he'd ask her to help with his strained muscles or injuries.
Today, he was nothing of that sort. Vader grabs her arm and pulls her roughly towards their shared quarters. A chill runs down her spine. The last time this occurred, she could barely walk after. Vader had taken her so many times and so hard that night that she blacked out several times. Thank the Maker that their bedroom had been soundproofed. She prayed that their children would never see what Vader would do to her. Vader's was insatiable especially when he was angry.
“Vader? What's wrong?” she asks again only to receive a low grunt from him.
Admittedly, the past few months had been hectic, Vader had been engulfed and utterly preoccupied with work, while she tried to wrangle two young boys at home. They've barely seen one another without being interrupted by work or their children. She didn't need to see his face to know he was angry and frustrated.
The moment they make it through the door, Vader tosses her onto the bed. He was mostly careful with her in bed, save for the occasions where he was angry. The rough act earned a rather terrified whimper from her, surprised by his abruptness.
Then, he unclasps his helmet, dropping it to the floor with a loud clang. Wasting no time, he pounces on top of her, roughly kissing her with vigor. His hands were roaming her body as if he was mapping her out. Taken aback, she places her hands on his chest, trying to make him slow down and to let her breathe.
Within no time, Vader managed to tear off her clothes off her body. Judging by his acts, he was in no mood to play and jest. His eyes were filled with rage and lust, he looked every bit the Sith Lord people feared.
Vader begins to strip himself of his suit, each piece thrown aside without a thought. He would pick them up later once he was done fucking his wife, his beautiful wife.
Then, Vader buries his face in her neck, beginning his assault of kisses and leaving a trail of red spots in his wake. He adored marking her skin, letting the galaxy know she was his.
Vader's hand moves down to her clit, pinching it. She lets out a small noise, surprised at the action. Vader toys with her clit and runs his tongue across her nipples.
“Vader! Gods, slow down!” she begs him.
Without warning, he inserts two of his large fingers in her. Earning a moan of both pleasure and pain escapes me at the sudden intrusion. She wasn't wet enough for it yet, and he knew it. Vader thrusts his fingers in and out of her without care, sending a sharp pain through her. He knew she liked it when he was rough, how wet she would get when he had his way with her.
Vader's mouth is now on her clit, his tongue flicking the bundle of nerves while his fingers violate her. Vader knew how to make me pliable, bending to his every command. He knew how to turn her to a pile of moans, to have her pussy leaking for him.
He begins to toy between flicking his tongue on her clit and sucking it, making her so,so wet. Her hands reach down to his head, grabbing the head of soft blonde curls as he made her head spin.
Vader then curls his fingers towards my sweet spot, earning a rather loud moan from her. His cock was so hard by now, he needed to fuck her soon.
She could feel the pressure build in her lower belly, taut and dizzying. Vader knew how to read her cues. How her walls would clench when her orgasm was building or how cunt would be dripping wet, soaking his fingers and the sheets. His pace was relentless, pistoning his fingers in and out of her so quickly.
Trying to hold herself together, she grasped at anything she could. Feeling the pressure grow tauter and tauter until it eventually snaps, sending her body into blind pleasure. Moaning and tossing around as her body came.
Vader drank up her moans, reveling in how her back would arch and how she clenched down on his fingers as she came. He did not stop, continuing to finger her through it, his mouth also continued its assault on her. He loved overstimulating his wife.
“Va-vader! It's too much! Give me a break, please!” she begs, back arching from pleasure.
“You can take it. Even if you can't, I'll make sure you do.”
The second orgasm builds up so quickly, the pleasure made her body shake. Her clit was overstimulated and her hole was sore from his fingers. She tries to close my legs together but Vader quickly pins them down.
“Try that again and you'll regret it, wife.”
Her second orgasm hits and her mind is empty. Only thoughts of her husband having his way with her remained. The pleasure was too much all at once, earning incoherent moans and screams from her. She can't seem to catch her breath, her body wildly thrashes on the bed. As Vader slips his fingers out of her, her body is limp, tired from the overstimulation.
Vader positions his hard cock between her legs and she had no energy to resist. Vader's lust was insatiable at times. Regardless of what she wanted, he would fuck her when he wanted to fuck me.
Vader slides his cock inside her, her cunt was dripping, making it easier for him to fuck her. Her walls were so warm and tight, Vader had to resist the urge to come immediately like a teenage boy.
Despite being wet enough, the stretch still stung. Vader's cock was long and girthy and a few months without sex made it even harder to take.
It didn't help that Vader was not gentle, he thrusted his whole length in without hesitation, bottoming out in her. She let out a pained groaned while he moans loudly.
He wasted no time. Vader began thrusting in and out of her roughly, his pace unwavering. He needed to fuck her, he needed to bury himself so deep inside his wife. The head of his cock hit her cervix repeatedly, making her scream. She hoped he wouldn't fuck her all night, she didn't think she could take it.
Vader was sure she would be so sore in the morning. He hadn't fucked her in so long, her pussy was so tight.
“God, you're so deep. Just, slow down.” she pants.
“I can't. I kriffing can't! You feel too good wrapped around me.” he says, sounding breathless.
Vader buries his face in her neck as he continues to pound into his wife. Grunting into her neck with each thrust, shaking the bed as he does so. The sharp pain his rough pounding caused made her head spin, reducing her to moans and whimpers of pain and pleasure.
Vader pins her hands above her head, while he kisses her lips roughly. Vader loved to kiss her while she moaned, her moans drive him crazy. So crazy that he'd fuck her for hours just to hear them.
As he fucked her hard, her third orgasm approaches. This time, the pleasure builds so quickly she could barely think. Her body hadn't felt this much pleasure in months.
One of Vader's hands reaches down to rub her clit, he knew by the way she tightened around his cock. He knew she was close. So, Vader's fingers reach down and plays with her clit. Vader's fingers on her clit pushed over the edge.
She screams into their kiss as she came around his cock. Vader grunts in reply as her walls clamped down on his cock. Vader loved the way her legs shook, overwhelmed by pleasure. He loved how fucked out she looked under him.
Vader pulls away from their kiss and says“You’re so tight when you come on my cock. I can barely move, fuck! You love it when I fuck the living daylights out of you, huh?”.
Vader's pace does not falter even after she came. By this point, she could barely process what was happening. His thrusts, his grunts and his kisses all pushed me to edge of her limits. Her body was riddled with pleasure and exhaustion as he fucked her.
Vader pinches her nipples and slaps her breasts and he fucks her. His roughness made her breathless. His grunts only spurred her on. Fueling the pleasure in her veins and she could feel his thrusts becoming more and more frantic, he was close. He would come soon and he would fill her with his come, stuff her so full of him.
She loved being filled by him, having his seed in her. She loved it when he treated her like this.
Suddenly, Vader grips her hips and lifts them slightly. He increased his speed, pounding her like his life depended on it. Anyone watching would think Vader had gone insane.
His pace was relentless and his grunts echoed through their bedroom. Vader wraps one of his hands around her throat, putting slight pressure on it.
She moaned his name repeatedly, trying to hold on to the edges of her consciousness as her Vader fucks her. The lack of air making it harder for her to stay conscious.
Vader comes with a loud groans and grunts, rutting wildly into her. Vader shoots his seed deep inside her womb, painting her insides.
The feel of his seed her was euphoric. It pushed another orgasm through her body. Her body shook as he continued to thrust into her softly through both of their climax. Vader lets go of her throat right as she was about to faint.
Her vision darkens for a few moments, her body unable to handle the pleasure and exhaustion. Laying there limp and satiated with her husband buried deep inside her, where he belongs.
Vader softly strokes her cheek, trying to rouse her back to reality. She opens her eyes to the sight of him looking at her with worried eyes.
“You still there?” He softly asks.
Too weak to answer, she merely nods. Her skin was sticky, her heart was beating wildly and she was barely able to catch her breath.
Vader slides himself out of her slowly, his seed dripping out of her and soaking the sheets. Vader's cock hardens slightly at the sight. His seed coming out her hole was enough to make him want to fuck her again.
Worried about over exhausting her, he refrains. He slowly lifts her up and sets her on the bed properly. Laying her limp body down, head on the pillow and comfortable.
Somewhere in her daze, he cleaned her up with a damp towel and tucked her in. The room was warm and cozy which made her smile. He adjusted the temperature so they both would be comfortable.
When she woke, he had just came out of the shower and dressed only in long pants. Sliding into bed, his skin was cool against hers. He pulled her into his arms, allowing her head to be resting on his chest.
“I heard the boys were sick today. You stayed home with them?” He asks.
“They were. Some flu has been going around at school. Their fevers have broke so they should be better in a few days.”
“What did the doctor say?”
“Not much. Gave them medicine and advised they rest. Told me to monitor their temperatures and coughs, and call him if they get worse."
“I'm sorry.”
“Hmm? About what?”
“I came home and fucked the living daylights out of you without even greeting you.”
“Yeah, you did.”
“Was it too much?”
“A little. What was it about, hm? You don't usually come home that angry.” I ask, tracing patterns on his chest.
“Nothing you should concern your pretty little head about. You should sleep. I can tell you're tired.” He replies while rubbing my arms softly.
He's avoiding telling her about it. She's learned not to prod when he's not ready to talk, he's Vader. He won't talk until he wants to.
Once she's asleep on his chest, Vader's mind wanders off. He would not include her in his plans, it was too dangerous. But soon, very soon, they would be free.
Free from the Emperor.
He slips out of bed and heads to his children's bedroom. Vader couldn't sleep anyways, he might as well check on his children. Seeing them would help him ground himself and calm down.
He slips inside their rooms quietly, not wanting to wake them up. He checks on each of the boys' temperature, making sure their fevers weren't too high. He stood there for a while watching them peacefully sleep. They were pure and untainted by the world around them, unlike him.
He would make sure Palpatine would never touch any of them again. Not his wife, not his children.
His youngest stirred awake, the bluest sleepy eyes staring back at him. He could tell the little boy was on the verge of tears, probably uncomfortable from being sick.
He gently picks up the boy and soothes him. His wife and eldest were sound asleep, he didn't want them to wake up as well. Vader's youngest son melts in his arms, and so does he. His son buries his tiny face into Vader's neck.
The little boy still had a slight fever and was probably still uncomfortable. Vader could feel the little boy's tears on his neck. Vader couldn't resist loving his two boys. He would much rather die before letting Palpatine dig his claws into them as well.
So, he'll fight. Palpatine will be gone and defeated. He swears it.

further reflection on the Luuke clone thing:
i think retrieving Luke's original lightsaber (Anakin's lightsaber) and having it continue to play a role in the plot is a mistake. this applies to both the Thrawn trilogy and the sequel trilogy. that shit's gone & it should stay gone. bringing it back for the evil clone wasn't a terrible move but I don't think it should have stuck around afterwards.
as far as Luke's arc goes Anakin's old lightsaber symbolises the hmm. idealised Jedi version of his father who never actually existed. it was a fantasy & now its gone. there's a lot of emotional baggage associated with it as an object that makes passing it onto another character a little weird to me??
& while i realise this is a retcon the whole thing is enhanced for me by the facts that 1) Obi-wan was straight up lying when he said that Anakin wanted Luke to have it. there's no possible way he could know that. he didn't technically find out Anakin was having a kid until after he'd become Darth Vader. would Anakin have wanted one of his kids to have it in the event of his death? maybe but that didn't happen
2) Anakin wasn't very precious w his lightsaber. He lost & trashed his lightsabers all the time. Luke is altogether putting far more significance on it than Anakin ever did.

I’m really interested in the idea of Padme surviving. Like she’d probably have to fake her death and that of the twins because there’s no way Palpatine will leave them alone. But she spent her whole teen years hiding in plain sight. So she’d likely have the most obvious fake identity as an advisor to the Queen of Naboo, who has children the same age as Padme Amidala’s baby, who look strangely like Anakin Skywalker but can’t be his because Jedi don’t have sex, and she’s besties with this guy who looks weirdly like Obi Wan Kenobi. Her face is everywhere so she’s done something to drastically alter her appearance like a big burn scar on her face, just like her husband (couples goals). But one day she finds herself face to face with Vader and he recognises her because he knows her better than anyone else and she recognises him because only Anakin could be so dramatic. And if random mother of twins is Padme, that makes her kids tiny Jedi. Palpatine wants these kids, who are only like five years old so it can’t be hard. But Ben taught them to use the force and their mother taught them to fight for what’s right and Anakin never actually wanted power he just wanted his family and that’s how two toddlers and a sad dad took out the Empire. Palpatine is remembered as a laughing stock. Padme takes over the Empire and turns it back into the republic. The twins have a goth cyborg protector dad. Ben feels really awkward because he’s the one who cut off all Anakin’s limbs.

Fallen Order AU where Cere is killed and Cal is taken by Darth Vader with the intention of making him an Inquisitor. But when Cal’s psychometric abilities are revealed, Vader has a different plan in mind, one that causes certain truths and revelations to come to light. Cal didn’t know what he was getting into when he showed Vader what he saw through those echoes, but he really didn’t sign up to accompany said Sith Lord while he went through a midlife crisis.
Essentially, Vader finds out the truth about how Palpatine lied to him and how Padmé really died and also the fact that he has twins out there somewhere and decides “fuck palpatine” and drags a bewildered Cal - who becomes his unofficial apprentice of sorts - with him as he plots a way to take the emperor down and also, find his kids.
Also a Darth Vader redemption of sorts. He’s still a pretty shitty guy at the start and his whole reason for wanting to kill the Emperor is solely to avenge Padmé. He also has some murderous intent towards Obi-Wan for hiding his children from him and also, leaving him to burn. He’s in the mindset of believing that he wasn’t at fault and blames others for everything that happened, including his actions. But gets a hard wakeup call from Cal when he shows him just how shitty things are and what the Empire, what he has done and finally thinks “oh, I’m the problem” and from then on his slow redemption starts as he sets out on attempting to repair the damage done as he starts back on the rocky path towards the light. He also trains Cal, who at first goes “fuck that and fuck you” but eventually the two become a duo. Like Vader and Starkiller if Vader was going through a crisis, stumbling through a path of redemption and Starkiller was his tired, annoyed, unofficial apprentice who was unwillingly dragged along for the ride.

Well Technically...
It is not often that I get an idea that includes Vader (with the genocide and horror that is implied) that makes me giggle.  This however made me giggle.
So Vader returns to the light right before he dies and comes back as Anakin the Force ghost.  Now despite what it appears this is not a kindness.  Anakin spends decades following his kids and the galaxy at large watching how little his existence mattered (galactically Anakin Skywalker was barely more than a recognizable name, and even that was diminishing as the people who knew of the ‘hero without fear’ died off; Vader would be forgotten even more quickly because no one wanted to remember him) even as he saw the long term consequences of his life (Luke’s struggle with his own identity-both as a man and a Jedi-, Leia’s struggle with her ancestry-finding out that your blood father killed all your other available parents was not a good feeling, Reva healing from the trauma he directly caused, all the ways that Ahsoka had to reshape her own soul to patch the holes Anakin put there, the echoes of the clones that died at his hand and command and the horror of the ones that survived). He has to watch his grandson not only make his mistakes but somehow make them worse, which was something that he did not know was possible. We get all the way through the the sequels, with a heavy emphasis on Anakin watching how the consequences of his actions (particularly the slaughter of the Jedi but many of the the things he did both during the empire and during the war) while acknowledging that he is not even remembered enough to be cursed, how the galaxy has spun on, not just without him but in spite of him and he is not even a footnote.
After Palpatine’s final, for now, death, Anakin is approached (for lack of a better term) by something shaped like Obi Wan Kenobi, circa the beginning of the clone wars. When this being speaks, it speaks with two voices at once, the Daughter and the Son. It asks if he could go back to before his Fall and change things, would he.
Anakin is sure he would, there are so many things he would do differently.
The being says that it can send him back to just before his tipping point, where his Fall and all the evil he did became inevitable, but cannot send him back further than that.  Anakin agrees. Just before he sent back the being tells him that should his Fall become inevitable again, they would shred his mind and soul and it would be more excruciating than any pain he had ever experienced.
Anakin, who had spent 20 years in agony, now had one(1) fear.
Anakin “closed” his eyes in the Force, wondering when he would be sent back to (Killing Padme, Marching on the Temple, Believing Palpatine over Fives) only to open his eyes as his mother took her last breath. He was back on Tatooine, in the Tusken camp.
Anakin was confused, this was the point of no return? He had not even thought about the Tusken camp in decades, had not truly considered them at all since Padme absolved him of their slaughter.
But this was also an Anakin that had spent decades in pain, and then decades observing. He was much more patient, by necessity if  not choice, less likely to act on violent impulse then the last time. Also the majority of his rage died in a cloud of lightning with the Emperor.  Instead of killing the Tuskens in a rage, he wept over his mother’s body in the grief he denied himself the first time. The reaction surprises the Tuskens so much (due both to the nature of Tatooine and the animosity between them and the moisture farmers they had not seen human tears of grief before) that they let Anakin take the body and leave.
They still bury Shmi and go to rescue Obi Wan (though it does not end in a marriage this time). The War still starts but Anakin is also running around trying to fix things, including himself (and actually doing all the actual emotional work on figuring out and fixing his own issues), meditating (Frankly Obi Wan is starting to be concerned that anakin is possessed), trying to not kill anyone (because he really isn't sure what the tipping point about the Tuskens was and does not want to risk it), get the chips discovered in such a way that they do not tip off the Sith (He brings a few clones, including Fives to the temple to Spar and 'accidentally' hits Fives hard enough to knock him out and pracitcally forces Master Che do a deep enough scan), make a list of the people he killed to try and do something nice for them. At some point he decides his ‘penance’ for his life as Vader was that he would somehow bring all the currently known Sith back to the Light (including Palpatine).
In the Force, the Daughter is watching all this, her head in her hand repeating over and over ‘The point of no return was murdering children, you moron. All you have to do is not murder children’. And everything he is doing works towards that goal, but she doesn’t expect him to fix the universe (in my head it is a bit akin to asking someone to tell you an equation that use 2 and equals 4, expecting 2+2 or 2*2 but instead them confidently saying((2xSqRt(100))-40+36)/4)
The Son is watching this all with Force popcorn, this is the most entertaining thing to happen in ages.
It is important to note that the Dark in this does not mean Evil. It means selfish, which is not the same thing.  You can be a selfish dick and still not be evil.  Mostly in this case it means that for those that inhabit the dark their priority is 1)Their own wants and needs; 2)The needs of the people they like, as long as it doesn’t inconvenience them; 3) The wants or needs of others if it benefits them in some way.  The Son was bored by what the Empire did to the Force, and he found having the Light there (and everything Anakin was doing) entertaining.
I just keep picturing the Daughter, in the Force, exasperated with Anakin because, yes everything he is doing is good for him and the galaxy but his ONLY job is ‘don’t murder children’ and it never even occurs to Anakin that that was the only act he needed to avoid.

hello to my beautiful mutual! first of all, congratulations on your milestone, you deserve it! your writing is literally everything to me.
i’m more than happy to participate in your event, so i was thinking the letter “k” (nsfw alphabet) for the arranged marriage au would be so fun.
- max :)
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks) - suitless!Vader, arranged marriage AU
A/N: hi @antxlss :DDD tysm for participating, I love the arranged marriage trope!!! I'm gonna presume u mean suitless!Vader, otherwise send me another ask and I'll write that for u too 🥰 btw I accidentally wrote a little about the letter I (= intimacy) of NFSW alphabet so I hope that's okay :)
Tumblr media
When the Emperor told him he'd be marrying a woman he barely knew, Vader was certainly hesitant: the memory of his deceased wife Padmè, however remote, still lived in the back of his mind, and the grief that had grown to hatred was gradually taking over his heart, making his ability to love scarce.
He didn't know how to go about in this relationship, the patented blend of touch starvation and lack of experience with romantic intimacy had affected his attitude in the past decade. He refused to berate or beat the woman, no, that is beneath him, but he couldn't force himself to fall for her, and he didn't want to: as proven by his previous relationships, it was going to end at one point, and he'd once again find himself abandoned by the very person he loved.
He was, however, well aware that the purpose of the marriage was to give the Emperor an heir to fulfill the Rule of Two, and the thought of a woman giving him a child was somewhat enticing to him, but without intimacy, it seemed pointless to him. A simple way to describe it would be that he was expecting for things to be awkward.
After the two of you get married, they are, in fact, awkward.
You don't know exactly what to say to each other, every form of affection feels forced, the meetings with the Emperor were draining. But slowly, little by little, you start to see him for who he really is. He's no Sith, no stoic and unfeeling man: he's affectionate and loving and would very well die for those he loves. So when one day you choose to call him "Anakin" instead of "Vader", his vulnerable side peeks through for the first time in your relationship.
Over time, you begin to grow comfortable with each other, and whenever you have sex, he'd get more and more passionate every time. He'd usually focus almost only on your pleasure, eating you out until you cry, fingering just the right spot to make you scream, holding your hand while he fucked you, peppering your face with kisses when you were both done, then pulling out of you and cleaning you up. 'The treatment angels should get', he says. But when the baby fever comes, any trace of rational thought was out the window. Of course, the thought of filling you with his children makes the blood rush to his cock in an instant.
He can't wait to stuff you full of his cum and wake up next to you every morning and seeing your belly swelling and growing within the next nine months. He loves it when you ride him, he wants to be buried into you as deep as he can to increase the chance of conception. The mere idea of your round, swollen stomach and breasts heavy from maternal milk makes him grip your hips and fuck his cock deeper into you, slamming his hips up into your loose, begging hole. He swears he could cum from hearing your screams and sobs of pleasure alone.
"That's my girl, good momma."
"You handled those kids so well, maybe I should try and fuck one into you."
"There you go, angel, there you go. Full of my cock, full of my cum... can't wait till you're full of my babies."

The Jedi Council are not the villains of TPM but they are not the heros either
Tumblr media
This was completely intentional and an important part of the narrative of Anakin´s fall to the darkside, his isolation from the Jedi Order.
The Jedi Order were not written as the villains in TPM, not more than the Senate when they rejected Padme´s appeal to save Naboo were, which made her accept Palpatine´s plans of taking down Valorum as a chancellor despite the fact he genuinely wanted to help their planet and send the Jedi to help her because he didn´t have enough influence in the Senate to give her more help.
Padme´s obstacle was the Senate, Anakin´s obstacles were slavery, Watto and the Jedi Council
But the main villains of TPM are the Sith Order, Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious and Darth Maul.
Darth Maul kills Qui-Gon, Darth Sidious planned the attack on his own planet and convinced Queen Amidala to take down Valorum to get the Chancellorship, he also told Maul to kill Qui-Gon and Padme so he could have easier acess to groom Anakin and Darth Plagueis is already getting the resources to create the clone army as a member of the banking clan before he was killed by Sidious. Everything bad that happens in the story began with these three characters.
The Jedi Council in TPM are not villains, they were just written set in their own ways, meaning they were not going to change their rules for a kid they didn´t know existed, who was too powerful for his own good and who already lived and knew the love of a family so him getting used to the Order was going to be difficult from the beggining, they acted as an institution in this instance and decided to reject Qui-Gon´s proposal to train Anakin, their role is to serve as an obstacle for the protagonists of the first movie, Anakin, Padme, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
They represent a system with their own philosophy that doesn´t have a place for any change in their pov, they prefer to believe Qui-Gon is wrong about the Sith being back instead of looking at the evidence of Maul´s existence and to think Anakin is dangerous for his love of his mother because he wasn´t raised at the temple, than try to see beyond their own perception of things. They don´t mean any harm to Anakin or malice or bad faith but they are not his allies, friends or family either. They just are and only Qui-Gon Jinn is personally invested in Anakin´s personal well being beyond being a strong force user, becoming a jedi or being the chosen one, this is critical to the story of Anakin´s fall, this is why Qui-Gon had to die in the "duel of fates" agaisn´t Maul.
Anakin and Padme mirror each other in their sense of isolation and loneliness towards being rejected by the institutions they trusted to help them achieve their respective goals, the Jedi Order and the Senate, which are for Padme the freedom of Naboo and for Anakin the freedom of his mother and his dream to become a Jedi and get to free the slaves on Tatooine using his powers.
At the end of the movie, only Padme, with the help of Qui-Gon, Anakin and Obi-Wan is able to get her goal of freeing Naboo while Anakin´s own personal goal of seeing his mother again, free her and the other slaves on Tatooine, gets tragically forgotten in the story, because Anakin´s goals are not anyone´s priority and this sets the way to Anakin´s fall because unlike Luke in his own story with the rebellion or Padme story as Queen and Senator of Naboo, Anakin doesn´t have allies to support him in his dreams, instead he is asked to fulfill the Senate, Jedi Order and Palpatine goals and this sets the theme of his story.
So Lucas definitely knew what he was doing here, he didn´t meant for the Jedi to be the protagonists or the villains of the story, he is telling the story of how the Sith became rulers of the Republic turned Empire and this lead to the fall of Anakin Skywalker, the birth of Darth Vader and the destruction of the Jedi Order, that´s the tragic story of the Prequels.

i don’t want to do discourse about moash’s character, but i do want to talk about how the suicide baiting is used in the narrative
when moash confronts kaladin in roshone’s basement, this is expected to be the classic darth vader “luke, join me” moment, right? you’re expecting moash to say something like, join the dark side we can offer you more than the heroes can etc. but he doesn’t!!! to have moash stand there and say, “you can’t join us on the cool kid team, and since life sucks forever and you can’t join us where everything is awesome, you should kill yourself,” is wild!!! it throws you off!!! and it’s specifically so much harder for a hero to rebuff than “join me.” because “join me” is weak in this scenario, what can they really offer kaladin? nothing. it would be really abundantly easy to say no to. and from the writer’s perspective, join me is very Done, right? telling kaladin to kill himself and throwing back all of this personal information that kaladin told him in confidence when they were friends is a really cruel and unexpected twist that makes you feel the stakes so much more than if he’d just given kaladin the whole dark side spiel and called it a day.
it’s made even more interesting later on when you realize that moash is defying direct orders from odium to do this. odium DOES want moash to be giving the classic dark side spiel, and this is moash refusing to do that. and the reason he’s refusing to do that is because he hates what and where he is, and he loves kaladin, and he doesn’t want kaladin to be here, but the only other option in his broken mind is that kaladin dies. and when you learn all that and look back on the scene, it’s doubly interesting because now everything he’s saying about how life is worthless is him pushing all his own suicidal thoughts on kaladin. it’s moash who wants to kill himself, but he can’t.
to me this is all really fascinating for the peek into moash’s mental state, but also from a writing perspective as a novel twist on the villainous “join me” speech. it’s truly jarring to read the first time and succeeds on like every level as a piece of writing, personally, imo.
