Kangana Ranaut on Jayalalitha biopic Thalaivi: Her story is similar to mine

Director AL Vijay's Thalaivi (Jaya in Hindi), a biopic on the life of former CM J Jayalalithaa, will have Kangana Ranaut reprising her role.

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut turned 32 on March 23 and it was indeed a memorable birthday for her. Yesterday, it was announced that she will be reprising J Jayalalithaa in director AL Vijay's bilingual biopic Thalaivi (Jaya in Hindi).

Thalaivi, which is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh, is a biopic based on the life of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa. Yesterday (March 23), Kangana met the media and spoke at length about Jayalalithaa's biopic.

She said, "I always wanted to work in regional films because when we go to Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh, we realise that people over there only watch films made by their local film industry. So there is a disconnect with that part of the country. I was waiting for a good opportunity to work over there and this film just came my way."

Kangana also pointed out that her life story is similar to that of J Jayalalithaa's. "I was working on my own biopic, but her (Jayalalithaa) story is very similar to my story. In fact, it is a bigger success story than mine. When I heard the narration of this film, I found many similarities between both the stories. So when I had the option to do a film based on her story or my story, I decided on the former," she added.

Thalaivi aka Jaya will be primarily made in Tamil and will also release in Hindi. Kangana also added that she will be learning Tamil for the film. "Unless I fail miserably and they (the makers of the film) have to look for an option for my dubbing. But I will definitely learn the language," Kangana exclaimed.

Kangana is said to have charged a hefty sum of Rs 24 crore as her remuneration. Baahubali and Manikarnika writer KV Vijayendra Prasad will write the story while Madhan Karky will pen the lyrics.

With film productions halted since March amid nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak, several production houses are facing losses since the schedules were abruptly ended. Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi, in which she is essaying the role of Jayalalithaa, has reportedly incurred Rs. 5 crores loss so far due to the lockdown.

The reports have stated that the 45-day schedule was supposed to kick off on March 10. The makers have constructed the Parliament House at the Ramakrishna Cine Studios in Hyderabad. They were to wrap up the shooting in mid-April followed by the Chennai schedule. Shaailesh Singh, the producer, reveals that they will have to wrap up the shooting before the monsoon arrives or the elaborate sets will be destroyed. He said that reconstructing it would be an expensive affair.

The makers are also worried that the two elaborate sets that were built in Hyderabad and Chennai may get destroyed once it starts raining. Vishnu Vardhan Induri, the producer of the film, revealed that they called off Hyderabad shoot amid lockdown. He further said that they had recreated Mount Road at the AVM Studio in Chennai and was supposed to do patchwork shoot there. He revealed that about 40 percent of the film is yet to be filmed!

Shaailesh Singh further said that they were unable to shoot in Hyderabad for a single day amid lockdown but paid the studio already. He states that even if they get a 10-day window, they will wrap up outdoor portions.

Based on the story of legendary actor turned politician, the trilingual film is being directed by Vijay and also stars Arvind Swamy. Produced by Vishnu Vardhan Iduri and Shaailesh R Singh and directed by Vijay, Thalaivi is scheduled to release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on 26th June, 2020.

For The Biopic On Jayalalithaa Titled Thalaivi, Kangana Goes Through A Detailed Prosthetic Measurement

Prep for the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa biopic Thalaivi has been started by Kangana Ranaut already. Shooting of the movie is scheduled to start after Diwali. Recently, Kangana has gone to Los Angeles, USA for the look test of the movie. It seems that Kangana will be seen in four different looks here.

Coming to Instagram, team of Kangana Ranaut has shared some pictures from prosthetic measurement session now. It has been done at the studio of Jason Collin who is an expert from Hollywood. Previously, Jason has worked in the movies like Hunger Gammes, Captain Marvel and Blade Runner 2049. Caption with the picture says “#KanganaRanaut going through prosthetic measurements at Jason Collins’s Studio in Los Angeles for #Thalaivi. Jason has previously worked for Captain Marvel creating prosthesis for Brie Larson. Needless to say, Jayalalithaa’s Biopic will definitely be something mind blowing.”

Releasing a media statement, Kangana has said about her look test “I am very curious about this process, I don’t know how it will impact my expressions and approach to my character but this is going to be one of its kind experience for me.”

The movie will be helmed by AL Vijay. First schedule of the shooting will be done in Mysore. It will be trilingual movie in Hindi, Tamil and Telegu that will be produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh.
