Album Review of the Week: She & Him - Volume Two (2010) ☆☆☆☆

By 2010, I was completely in love with Zooey Deschanel and She & Him's first album so I was very excited to hear that their sophomore effort was shortly incoming! This album definitely showcases positive development in Zooey's songwriting and the overall quality of the music presented without compromising their sound, which is something that I have always admired about their overall body of works.

I love how bright and bouncy most of the tracks are, it's like a somewhat modernized version of the 60s genre of Sunshine Pop. They have talked in the past about how they like to use authentically vintage recording equipment in order to achieve that sound, which seems to be very effective.

Zooey's vocals are also in top form on this album. This and Volume 3 may have the best of her vocals, sometimes it can get a little "throaty" sounding to me but these two albums sound fantastic.

Overall, it's a great album when you want to listen to something on the indie side but still have fun! Not quite pop, not quite cerebral. Just a happy in-between.

This webtoon turned professionally published graphic novels are beyond beautiful artistically. that said with the beauty comes the ugly, and in this series some harder and darker topics are talked about. There is an authors note/trigger warnings page in the front, but if you feel like that's not enough information or that you aren't in the right head space, do not feel bad about taking a step back.

Overall I have now read all three of the officially published and bounded volumes which equals out to roughly 75 webtoon episodes, and 25 episodes per volume.

Instead of talking about each of these amazing volumes separately I want to talk about it more as a whole. This collection of Persephone and Hades story has been an ongoing publication on Webtoon since March of 2018. Since then Rachel has given us three bind-up, won or been nominated for many awards, talked about a television adaptation - all the while continuing to write and draw and publish more. To her I want to say that I am inspired and proud of you! These stories have given me a fun look at the Greek myths as well as a way to tie mental health and trauma into everyday lives (even those of gods and goddesses). Thank you for creating this world @usedbandaid , and I can't wait to see more!!!
