Jack Quaid y joue Nathan, un homme atteint d'une maladie appelée analgésie congénitale, qui l'empêche de ressentir la douleur. Cela donne lieu à certaines des scènes les plus folles que j'aie jamais vues dans un film d'action. Mais l'intrigue principale est que Nate s'intéresse à une fille, qu'elle se fait kidnapper et qu'il part à sa poursuite, affronte différentes personnes et découvre qui il est vraiment. C'est drôle, plein d'action et touchant, d'une manière très étrange. Dans l'ensemble, je trouve le film plutôt bon, rien de révolutionnaire, mais bon quand même. 7/10.

So it depends on whether you believe Rivers Cuomo 1997 or Rivers Cuomo 2009. I generally don't put a lot of stock in lyricists and storytellers, because there's always a tendency for tweaking things here and there, or just making something up wholesale. Certainly the timeline would suggest the 1997 version is correct.

Rivers also wrote "The Pinkerton Diaries", which I can't find a good copy of online, so maybe he says something confirming or contradictory about it there.

Weezer's "Pink Triangle" is my favorite song from Pinkerton. It's about a guy who falls in love with a girl in his class, then realizes that she's a lesbian. The chorus is "I'm dumb, she's a lesbian", but it's not just about that, it's about making up this whole life with a person that you don't actually know, the way that a crush can overwhelm you and send you spiraling into dreams. It's a dumb song, but it's also relatable in that way.

But there's an interview with Rivers Cuomo where he says he found out a year and a half after the release of the album that she wasn't actually a lesbian. She'd just been wearing a pink triangle to show support or whatever.

Which makes the song even funnier to me, because it's a song all about leaping headfirst into idealizing a person you don't actually know, and then he immediately does the opposite thing! He sees the pink triangle on her sleeve and immediately goes into this despair about impossible love and all his dreams shattering, and there's no suggestion that at any point in this did he actually talk to her.

(Also, I've always felt like it must be tough to be a lesbian, because there are girls walking around with pink triangles and rainbows and you'd think they're gay, but they're just progressive.)

Rust Compiler Performance Triage

A mixed bag of a week. 2 of the 3 regressions are connected to changes to the query system that underlies incremental compilation. The third regression is still being investigated. For all three, the impact on cycle counts that are within our noise tolerance levels There were several small-ish improvements, though PR #104963 is worth calling out: a well-factored change to how we lower the AST into HIR that had a broad positive impact. One final note: the summary-opt max-rss seems to gone up by 1.5% over the past month (perf), via a gradual climb; just something to keep our eyes on going forward.

'The twin releases of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” has broken records for cinema chain Vue International.

COO Claire Arksey described the “Barbenheimer” box office performance as the chain’s “best week ever” and the period following the films’ release as a “record-breaking week,” which beat Vue’s International’s previous overall weekly admissions record by 40% across eight European markets.

Arksey said that in Poland, Vue cinemas had their best week on record and in the Netherlands, their cinemas had beaten their previous admissions record set during the “Lion King” opening week in 2019. Vue U.K. and Ireland beat its previous highest admissions week by 20%, which was set during the “Skyfall” opening week in 2012.

“The second box office weekend for both films also showed signs of strong word of mouth, with ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ admissions going up week on week in markets like Germany and the Netherlands. This is a strong indication that these films will have a sizeable audience in cinemas throughout the rest of the summer,” Arksey said.

“And there’s more to come. We’re looking forward to seeing our customers continue to enjoy the big screen experience over the summer and beyond as other great titles are released this year: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ ‘Meg 2: The Trench,’ ‘Napoleon’ and ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes,'” Arksey added.

The records tumbled at Odeon across the U.K. and Ireland as well, selling more than two million tickets for the two films in 10 days of release, breaking records set by “Avengers: Endgame” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in the process. July 2023 was also Odeon’s biggest box office month since reopening post-pandemic – the chain reported nearly four million customers this month, beating the record set in October 2021 by the releases of “No Time To Die,” “Dune” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.”

Suzie Welch, Odeon’s interim managing director for U.K. and Ireland, said: “What a week. We have been thrilled to see guests continue to flock to our cinemas in the past week to experience the unique directorial visions of Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan as they were meant to be seen – on the big screen at the cinema. As excitement for both films continues into this week, I want to thank all of our Odeon colleagues for their hard work in delivering the very best big screen experience for all our guests, with over 70% of our cinemas marking their busiest week in five years last week.”

Over the weekend, “Barbie” collected $122.2 million internationally and $93 million domestically for a total of $774.5 million, while “Oppenheimer” earned $72.418 million internationally and $46.2 million domestically for a $400.3 million total, per numbers from Comscore.

Vue International, which is the largest privately owned cinema operator in Europe, operates 1,990 screens across 227 sites in nine countries.'
