Grishaverse Tribute
I'm pissed. I'm vengeful. I'm going to march on Netflix.
The cancellation is uncalled for, now all we will see in return for the snubbing of one of the best series on Netflix, with one of the best fandoms, cast and creators another stupid documentary glorifying a serial killer, another shitty teen show with no plot but plenty of sex (because sexualizing children will be something they always get away with), and another over-marketed pointless action film with some former boxer or wrestler leading it who can't really act more than one type of nice-buff guy.
In my mournful and restless vengeful spirit, I have come up with another playlist dedicated to the Grishaverse, the fans, the cast and Leigh Bardugo. This breaks their hearts so much because we know how excited and passionate they were about telling this story, and to think now so many won't be able to go on and live their beloved characters through to the end. I can't stand it.
"None of this had been fated; none of it foretold. There had been no prophecies of a demon king or a dragon queen, a one-eyed Tailor, Heartrender twins. They were just the people who had shown up and managed to survive. But maybe that was the trick of it: to survive, to dare to stay alive, to forge your own hope when all hope had run out. For the survivors then, Zoya whispered to herself as the people before her knelt and chanted her name. And for the lost." - Leigh Bardugo, Rule of Wolves
I got to dream through them, Shadow and Bone saved my Covid years, when I was alone in a dorm learning online, unable to be with anyone else, with no friends and no family. I had little to no confidence and was stuck in a place that scared me. But then I had Shadow and Bone, I had these amazing characters and when I dove into the books, I found so much more. (A found family is my favourite literary trope for a reason.)
“Kaz leaned back. "What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?" "Knife to the throat?" asked Inej. "Gun to the back?" said Jesper. "Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina. "You're all horrible," said Matthias." - Leigh Barugo, Six of Crows
This is a playlist for all of us who are mourning and for all of us willing to fight on. I've seen petitions already posted on change.org, lets sign them all, share them all and try our best to change this while we can. Warrior Nun got their season 3. Who says we can't? Who says we shouldn't? Brick by Brick we will build our season 3, or we'll go down trying.
“Have any of you wondered what I did with all the cash Pekka Rollins gave us?" "Guns?" asked Jesper. "Ships?" queried Inej. "Bombs?" suggested Wylan. "Political bribes?" offered Nina. They all looked at Matthias. "This is where you tell us how awful we are," she whispered.” - Leigh Bardugo, Crooked Kingdom
Pardon the ecclectic taste of this long playlist, but there are so many types of song that I feel fit the plot, the charcaters and themes as well as their relationships to each other. This has sparked inspiration in me to create more playlists catering to the Grishaverse and I'll do that alongside my usual playlist posts.
I would also like to say that this playlist isn't just mine, it's for everyone and I would love for any fans of the show or books to let me know if they have any songs that they love to be added to the playlist and I will do so.
There are over 60 songs on this playlist, so I'm not going to write them all here for obvious reasons, I hope none of you mind that.
For our founding mother Leigh Bardugo. For the Six of Crows; Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar. For our S+B crew; Alina Starkov, Malyen Oretsev, The Darkling, Baghra Morotzova, Nikolai Lantsov, Zoya Nazyalensky, Genya Safin, David Kostyk, Tolya Yul-Bataar, Tamar Kir- Bataar, Nadia and Adrik Zhabin.
Let the revival of Season 3 be our final grand mission.
Lets stream the show, post more art, more fanfics, more posts, more petitions. Let's fight for what we can.
No Mourners, No Funerals.

Is anyone else stressing about the Warrior Nun news? Because I feel like I just got stabbed then fell into a portal. Like if they give us a film????? I will take it. I will. But what I need for my sanity is 3 more seasons. F it, 10 more seasons. Sapphics need a win. And we need serotonin before we all start watching sapphic prn for the plot stg.

Okay but isn’t it like Warrior Nun or something that was canceled by netflix but then due to fan support was eventually brought back or renewed somehow?
I'm not sure, but there have been a lot of "uncancellations," because whether a show is popular has literally nothing to do with whether a streamer, especially Netflix, renews it. SAB was top of the most-watched list for months, had a vocal and dedicated fanbase calling for its renewal, and it was clear that people were interested both in it and in the potential Six of Crows spinoff. But Netflix gonna Netflix, and I don't for one moment believe that "the impact of the strike" had anything to do with it. That reeks of studio propaganda, frankly, to blame the writers/actors for going on strike at all and being the Big Meanies who are the reason (not Netflix's well-established pattern of doing exactly this) they won't get any more of their favorite show. After all, they're only giving up a TINY extra portion of their revenues, there's no actual budgetary reason they couldn't do it, and if it was just because it was popular (which has never saved non-Witcher Netflix shows in the past), they could have renewed it. Instead, this plays very much as a petty "fine, you forced us to do the deal with the writers/actors, but we can still axe boatloads of your favorite shows all at once to punish you, neener neener" power move.
As I said in my tags last night: they didn't HAVE to wait until after the strike to cancel it (and a few others). I realize that shouting at Netflix for dickish cancellation practices is like shouting at the sky for being blue or Republicans for being idiots, but still. SAB was always long odds to get a season 3 just because three seasons means Netflix has to start -- gasp! -- paying people for residuals and streaming, or at least that was the case under the old contract. So it had reached the dreaded Two Season Chopping Block, but if Netflix wanted to cancel it, as they were clearly planning to do, they could have just, you know. Done that. Instead, waiting this long and explicitly blaming "the impact of the strike" sounds, to me, like a great big bucket of passive-aggressive bullshit, and we know they're petty enough to do these kinds of things. So yeah.
Anyway, this means I am in fact going to do the Lost in Wonderland sequel fic sooner or later (Empire of Bones still has first dibs on my muse, I know people are waiting for an Unknown and Static Strange update as well, etc etc). It won't be a full retelling/treatment of s3, but the fact that I can now use other characters in addition to Fivan means that there will be a somewhat broader focus with more plot threads, and it will incorporate elements of what I would have liked to see in SAB s3. I.e. Mad Queen Alina, Crows Ice Court Rescuing Fivan Shenanigans, Mei Looking For Her Dads, Very Polite Shadow Monster David, and other fun things. So hey. Silver-ish lining, or something. Still, fuck you Netflix. Fuck you very much.

2023 Favourites
In no particular order. This is content I've read and watched in 2023, not necessarily content released in 2023.
Books
1. Notorious Sorcerer by Davinia Evans: fantasy with some m/m. The protagonist travels to other planes for alchemical ingredients and ends up having to learn greater workings. I love the Byzantine vibe of the worldbuilding.
2. The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai: fantasy with some f/f. Two women, a waterweaver and an earthweaver, join a women's rights movement. I love the Egyptian-inspired worldbuilding.
3. Reforged by Seth Haddon: m/m fantasy. This King/Paladin novel has a surprising plot. The magic system is very original as well, I especially like the music part of it.
4. The Buried and the Bound by Rochelle Hassan: urban fantasy with some m/m (YA). The hedgewitch protecting the town teams up with a boy cursed to forget his true love and another one trapped as a bondservant.
5. [Spanish] Lazos de Sangre by LR Jeffers: m/m urban fantasy (erotica). This is a series about werewolves and big cat shifters, usually angsty and hot.
6. [French] Meute by Karine Rennberg: urban fantasy with some m/m + another protagonist is aroace and uses sign language. This is a novel about building your own werewolf pack. I think this is my first time encountering 2nd-person narration in French and it works surprisingly well.
7. Cascade by Rachel A. Rosen: science fantasy with mlm and wlw protagonists + no romance. An ecological disaster has freed magic. In Canada, the Party works with a wizard in order to try and save humanity. I love the intricacies of the plot, which skilfully mixes politics, science and magic.
8. Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell: m/m science fiction. Telepathy, my favourite trope, done by one of my fave authors! It was even better than I expected.
9. The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei: science fiction/murder mystery with several non-binary major characters. 80 people from all around the world embark on a one-way interstellar voyage. As they're all required to get pregnant, they're obviously afab, but several are non-binary, with mentions of a trans man.
10. Forget Me Not by Alyson Derrick: f/f romance (YA). This is a very romantic novel about two girls dating in secret until one gets amnesia. I enjoy this trope a lot.
TV shows
1. Good Omens: fantasy with queer protagonists + some f/f. I love the book and I love the adaptation. Season 2 is original content, but it's faithful to the spirit of the novel.
2. Shadow and Bone: fantasy with some m/m (YA). This successfully mixes the Shadow and Bone trilogy (that I haven't read) and the Six of Crows duology (that I have read and enjoyed).
3. Warrior Nun: fantasy with some f/f. Nuns literally fight against demons.
4. The Power: superpower fiction with some f/f + a trans woman and an intersex man. Teenage girls start developing an electrical superpower, which makes them safer from men.
5. Nü Er Hong: GL wuxia. This c-drama is a quick watch, with 27 episodes of 2 minutes. I love that these short webdramas always have more or less the same actresses.
6. The Devil Judge: dystopia/thriller with BL vibes. This k-drama has a tight plot and fascinating characters. There's a girl in a wheelchair and the rep is well done.
7. Naughty Babe: BL romance/murder (attempt) mystery. This Thai drama is the sequel to Cutie Pie, except that they switched up the main pairing and the secondary pairing. I think it's possible to watch it on its own.
8. Wedding Plan: BL + GL romcom. This Thai drama has mlm-wlw solidarity, which I hope to see more of in the future. There are also cameos from the BL couples from Love in the Air.
9. Oh! My Assistant: BL romcom. This hilarious k-drama is about a het porn webtoon creator and his assistant. Despite this topic, the drama is not explicit.
10. Welcome to the Lesbian Bar: GL contemporary fiction. This k-drama is a quick watch, with 5 episodes of 6 minutes. In each episode, 2 customers come have a drink and chat with the owner.
Movies
1. Barbie: fantasy that is so gender! This was such a big surprise coming from Hollywood.
2. Nimona: fantasy with a protagonist who is a trans/enby allegory + some m/m (YA). I haven't read the graphic novel, so this was more depressing than I expected (it deals a lot with discrimination), but still an excellent movie.
3. Wingwomen (Voleuses in the original French): action movie with a sapphic protagonist + f/f vibes between the other two. I love heist movies all about women.
4. Kill Bok-soon: action movie with some f/f. This Korean movie has interesting cinematography. Note that it's very violent, though.
5. Red, White & Royal Blue: m/m romcom. I love the book and I love the adaptation.
6. Anything's Possible: m/f romance with a trans female protagonist (YA). This is a very positive movie, about love, art and nature.
7. Fanfic: m/m romance with a trans male protagonist (YA). This Polish movie is sometimes dark, sometimes fun.

To all the fans of the shows either canceled or taken from us too fast with one final season to wrap up everything!
If you can, please help us fight for Warrior Nun. This show is truly magnificent. Amazing writing, great representation, diverse cast who cares about the show and the fans, great plot, awesome fight scenes, a showrunner we can trust, literally everything you could think of is there.
There's a couple of things you can do:
Sign this petition (and ask your friends if they could, too) https://www.change.org/p/renew-warrior-nun-for-season-3?utm_content=cl_sharecopy_35106723_en-GB%3A4&recruiter=711424127&recruited_by_id=c885e8b0-26b3-11e7-89d4-a5ab6e4a37ec&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&share_bandit_exp=initial-35106723-en-US
Go on Twitter and Tweet something about Netflix canceling all its wlw shows is unfair BUT use the hashtag #SaveWarriorNun (but please check the spelling, we have about 20k tweets at this point with wrong hashtags...)
Go to Netflix (and any other streaming platform you're using) and request Warrior Nun season 3.
4.Go to Netflix support and lodge a complaint - either via chat or if you're feeling generous, by calling them - state clearly that you want your complaint registered and that you're filling that complaint because they canceled warrior nun even though it performed so well after being clearly set up for failure by Netflix. Be polite, you'll talk to ordinary people who are not responsible for canceling those shows.
If you have any questions or want to offer your skills and help us, even more, win this shit, feel free to message me or comment here.
Let's do it for all those times our shows were taken away from us!

Tumblr media
Ok, so I really need people to watch (and re-watch) this show and hit the little two thumbs up button on Netflix. Please 🙏🏽
Tumblr media
I went in completely blind. I knew it was adapted from a book and that was it. I didn’t know the premise, plot, nada. I just finished the last episode and am completely, and quite pleasantly, surprised at how much I loved and enjoyed this show.
Tumblr media
Lockwood & Co. is a thriller/mystery that has a lot of tropes and characters I adore! I simply loved Lockwood and Lucy and George ♥️ Their dynamic is so entertaining to watch! Even the talking head and the rival agents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The characters are all endearing and multilayered! The plot is super engaging and fun!
Tumblr media
If you love ghosts, mysteries, fun and adorable character relationships, sword fighting, talking skeleton heads, cute banter, complicated and dynamic characters, found family, adorable nerdy/witty boys, slow burn that’s worth it, a ship where a charming/reckless boy meets badass girl that grounds him while he supports her and is not intimidated by her awesomeness (a ship that reminded me of Kaz and Inej tbh aksjsjdjdj), plus a lot more, then please, PLEASE, go watch this show!
Tumblr media
I’m so scared that Netflix will cancel it like Julie & the Phantoms, Anne of Green Gables, 1899, Sense8, No Good Nick, First Kill, Babysitters Club, Raising Dion, One Day at a Time, The Irregulars, Warrior Nun, and so many others, simply because they do a shit job at promoting it, or because they feel like it. Let’s not make them feel like it, shall we?
Tumblr media
Let there be a season 2. I looked it up and there are only five books so please @netflix just wrap it up nicely into 2 or 3 seasons, and I’ll be happy. There is so much potential here!
Thank you. That is all. 🫖👻🗡️

Warrior nun trilogy
I'll admit, that wasn't the announcement I was expecting. If I'm being fully honest, I'm not as thrilled as a lot of people seem to be, just because films always have a different feel, and I'm a bit attached to the whole TV show set up they had going.
A Trilogy of movies usually has about a 7hr run time (similar to a season of the show) - and I might be getting the complete wrong end of the stick here - but I think (and hope) that these '3 films' may end up a bit more like a season of Sherlock:
Each one is about 1hr30 (an acceptable movie length) with its own individual 'identity', but there's an overarching story between all of them.
You can watch them individually, but it feels slightly 'off', and out of place.
They aren't breaking them into more, shorter instalments for the sake of plot cohesion (almost like the really long Stranger Things S4 episodes) as there is a big finale/climax and more extended plot lines.
If it does work out like this (with the OG cast ofc: I'm not watching it otherwise), I think it's entirely down to the writing to make it fill the drama a longer 'episode' needs.
Oh, and if they don't bring back Shotgun Mary and/or give her a spin off series, hand will need to be caught (as well as getting rid of Lilith's stupid scales, like what is going on there).
The hype around a film release should help as well, but I really hope we don't have to wait an age between what is basically 2 episodes.
Thank you for coming to my (rather uncharacteristic) TedTalk.

Not Simon Barry dropping what would have been the season 3 plot of warrior nun with evil Ava 😭 and Bea being the only one to save her. Like sometimes I be wishing I was wealthy or something, so I could literally just pay to get what I want
Like remember when everyone was so happy for the trilogy at one point 💀🤢 like ik there was a reason I was like “great😬”
Ok I’m going back to my cave.

only the option with the lowest percentage will be eliminated! propaganda under the cut (and more always welcome!):
ava silva and michael salvius:
They have some amusingly straightbaity scenes where Michael initially appears to be interested in Ava (meeting her in a bar, asking questions about her, pursuing her to get her to do things with him and inviting her to kick ass with him) but almost all of these scenes are explicitly for plot reasons or end up displaying the closeness of Ava and Beatrice (and Beatrice’s jealousy over Ava seemingly being interested in a man) instead. Michael and Ava develop a strong close relationship that feels more sibling-esque by the end of season 2 and also Michael straight up dies at the end of season 2 as well.
neo, mew, and shin:
Before the show aired there was all this speculation over who Neo (a boy) was going to choose, Mew (a girl) or Shin (a boy). A lot of people suspected that Neo and Mew would get together and even though the trailers seemed to imply that there was something between Neo and Shin, that it wouldn't end well for them. Turns out the show went a completely different direction and ended up with polyamory with all three dating each other. This song from the show released before the show came out and there's a lot of comments from people before the show came out trying to figure out who's going to end up together (with some people saying that they hope it'll be poly but are sure that it probably won't be) https://youtu.be/5w-nDbr2fxY And here's the famous kiss scene (there's no subs in this clip but the general vibe is that they're telling Shin (the shorter guy) that even the two of them have feelings for each other, they care about him too) https://youtu.be/Gr4fTrXqL8k https://64.media.tumblr.com/80a1b4441645c65825f221a42d2e88ed/36e07bb804d7de75-59/s540x810/bd1bb49d299d904c8ffe9a26b970caf9567eaae3.pnj
edward elric and winry rockbell:
literally in different dimensions by the end! they still have a lot of the hallmarks of "ohh endgame childhood best friends" or whatever but fma 2003 just said. naah. winry got the shortest end of the stick and i feel so bad for her!!! continuity specific straightbait. in every other universe they get married and have kids but screw you two specifically 🙏
hikaru hitachiin and haruhi fujioka:
Haruhi x Hikaru from ouran high school host club. Yes i know she technically gets together with another boy in the end, but there is something so Queer about this ship in particular. Their whole date episode is just screaming Not Straight. For both of them.
rowena macleod and sam winchester:
Their relationship was clearly going in that direction before the writers killed Rowena.
galo and aina (submitted as lio and galo):
Iirc, the whole time the audience was set up to believe that Galo will get together with a teammate named Aina (i might be completely wrong but i think she showed romantic interest in him). That's what usually happens, anyways. However, studio trigger turned that premise on its head with Galo's budding relationship with Lio. In order to save Lio, Galo kissed him. They kissed.
mako, korra, and asami:
it's that one meme where the guy ignores his girlfriend to check out another girl, only the two girls get to know each other and get together. S1/2 has love triangle drama between who Mako will be with (Korra or Asami). S3 no one is together but Korra and Asami become really close friends. S4 Korra and Asami are together. Mako is single. Like the only example of exes being good friends and Not getting back together, as well as giving the middle finger to heteronormative assumptions when after the love triangle is over, the two girls get together Shipping the two girls in a love triangle together but it actually happens
pat and ink:
Pat has a crush on Ink early on, and it seems possible at first that she may feel the same way. However, it is later revealed that she actually has a crush on his sister and is a lesbian. It's okay though because then Pat realizes he's in love with his childhood rival and they become wlw mlm solidarity! Everyone wins!
buffy driscoll and tj kippen:
in the show there's this thing were if a character looks back to someone while they're leaving it means they have a crush on them. so they had a scene were tj looked back towards were buffy was, but then it was revealed he was gay and in love with buffy's best friend who was standing right next to her in that scene enemies to friends were tj is redeem through the power of gay love towards buffy's best friend
alexa, liana, ian, and jeremy:
the Only barbie animated movie where the girl(s) do not end up with a guy. alexa & liana live together and enact a ton of romantic tropes together, the twin guys do flirt with them but then the girls are separated from them by... a magic rainbow. they do dance together at the end of the movie... before the girls leave to go live together again. wearing dresses that are literally the bi and lesbian pride flags. no joke. cottagecore wlw separated from potential male love interests by literal magic rainbow the gayest barbie movie
good luck everyone! now go vote!

Please explain warrior nun to me. I wasn’t interested at first but you make it seem so cool I want to learn :)
I WILL explain it to you. Saddle up because I'm prepared to ramble. There will be spoilers. If you'd like another summary w/o spoilers, let me know!
Tumblr media
First: our main character, Ava Silva. At the start of the show, she's a paraplegic and orphaned 19 year-old girl who is, quite literally, dead in the first scene. She is snarky, a little clueless but not innocent, and most importantly, she wants more than anything to live.
Tumblr media
This is Sister Beatrice!!! She's the love interest, technically, but she's not the only one (just more of an important character than the other), and she's also so much more than that. She is a prodigious warrior who fights for the OCS; The Order of the Cruciform Sword, which is a sect of Catholic nuns that fight demons for the good of the people. She is good at everything with the exception of Not Being Gay, which is, incidentally, the reason she was sent to a Catholic boarding school in the first place. Suffice to say, her parents suck.
Tumblr media
There's also a wide cast of incredible characters; we have (from right to left) Mary, who is The Coolest and also, somehow, more of an older sister figure than the actual sisters; Lilith, who's a bit of a bitch but we still love her, Father Vincent, who's also a bit of a bitch but we tolerate him, and then on the far left, there's Camila, who is simultaneously the Cutest and also the Smartest. (also not pictured here is Mother Superion, whom we also love.)
This show has so many good women characters. You will become obsessed with at least one of them. At least.
Tumblr media
Essentially, Warrior Nun's plot depends on the use of the Halo, which is a literal Angel's Halo (or is it?) that fuses itself to the spine of one special nun, the Warrior Nun, who is then given the ability to see demons and also other various superpowers. However, because of its immense power, demons and other forces are constantly trying to seize the Halo for themselves, and due to a tragic series of events, a panicked nun has to give Ava the Halo.
Ava, who is dead at the time.
And it brings her back to life. Not only that, but it gives her the ability to walk for the first time since she was, like, four years old. Also, it gives her superpowers, too, but whatever.
So basically, Warrior Nun is about Ava trying to balance her will to live her life now alongside with the new duties that the OCS are trying to put on her. They can't take the Halo out, because it may kill her. Something something jesus parallels, something something taking the time to have the characters work things out for themselves, and you get this show. I cannot emphasize enough the character writing.
(Also it has one of the best sapphic slowburns I've seen in a show ever. They hit so many good tropes in such a well-paced manner. I can't even describe how well they're written. What the fuck.)
So. Watch Warrior Nun. We need a season 3!!

WARRIOR NUN SPOILERS!!!!
.
.
.
.
This show. Good Lord this show. This is the best example of listening to your viewers but doing it in a way that isn’t a fan service. They put chemistry in Season 1, heard the feedback, then said “Okay, bet” with Season 2… but they did it on the character’s terms. Beatrice has had feelings for Ava since 1, but Ava wasn’t there. Then in 2 they are both so clearly there but so scared of losing the other, or straying from their faith that it’s as palpable as their yearning. Even then their relationship didn’t carry the show. It wasn’t there to further the plot. It just was. All of the characters in the show are strong so 3 dimensional. We have Camilla, struggling with Adriel then fucking outsmarting him; we have Lilith, who has been put in a box her whole life and has finally been given a way to follow her own path, even if it’s the wrong one; we have Mother Superion, who is finally able to see the Warrior Nun she wanted to be through Ava; Michael and his journey and struggle to accept his life is not his own; and so many more character’s. I truly believed Season 1 was on at the same level as when I watched Buffy growing up, but Season 2 somehow blew 1 out of the water. Even if we don’t get a Season 3 (fuck I hope we do) these two Seasons have been an absolute pleasure.
So thank you Warrior Nun. In this life, or the next.

I started watching the wilds again earlier and I need to know how they planned to do season 3 and if we would've gotten a Leah and Fatin kiss. My gay heart is yearning
I do not trust the writers at all lmao I 100% feel like they were going to kill one of them (Fatin or Leah) off so in a way I’m at peace with fans choosing gay & happy endings.
But at the same time I reallllly wish they would have told us some plot ideas like Simon did with warrior nun just to offer comfort to the community. Because I NEED TO KNOW lmao.

A little(?) recap/guide thingy Warrior Nun edition:
This is my attempt to make a wn guide and will cover some basic information about the show, the plot and a brief introduction of the characters + my personal options about them.
A long post since I’ve been hypervixated on the show since s2 dropped.
Some basic info
Warrior nun(2020-) is a show created by Simon Barry based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn.
The first season of the show aired on Netflix( which we will refer to as Netflop) on 2020 July and was renewed for a second season that was released on November 2022.
Sadly, in December of 2022, that show was cancelled by Netflop BUT AFTER 6 MONTHS OF HARDWORK BY SHOWRUNNER SIMON BARRY, THE CAST AND CREW OF WN AND THE WN FANDOM, ON JUNE 28 2023, IT WAS ANNOUNCED BY SIMON BARRY ON TWITTER THAT THE SHOW WILL RETURN!!
(I’m so proud of us for real, I know is late but happy pride everyone 🌈)
Now on to the story( and the reason why I fucking love this show other then Avatrice)
The plot
The story begins with a quadriplegic 19-year-old orphan, Ava Silva, when she wakes up in a morgue with religious artifact known as the halo. Soon, Ava discovered that she now have superpowers and she was hunted down by both the owner of the halo, the Order of the Cruciform Sword(OCS for short), a group of secret warrior nuns that works for the Catholic Church that fights demons, and the literal demons from hell, who wants to use the halo to open the gates of hell.
Tl;dr Local 19-year-old girl Ava Silva who was previously quadriplegic and dead, was resurrected by a literal angel halo slap on her back by one of the secret nuns that work for the Catholic Church, Ava now has to fight literal demons.
(Slight s2 spoiler below)
Oh and she got a really cool sword and a gf later and that’s why we call her bisexual Jesus.
The characters
Not going to go too in-depth because if I do this post will go on forever, so I’ll give a brief overview of them + my some own opinions on them.
( I tried to keep it as spoiler free as possible but there might be spoilers of s1 now let us begin!)
1. Ava Silva( portrayed by Alba Baptista)
Tumblr media
- Local quadriplegic orphan was resurrected by a mysterious devine donut so she’s understandably confused
- But that’s also why she’s so passionate about life( because she’s been trap in a bed for like years)
- Also that’s why I would describe her as child-like because she basically didn’t get one( she got a TV buddy in the orphanage tho, props to you Diego🫡)
- Chaotic ™
- At first glance, she might seem selfish but that’s only because girlie just wanted to live okay
- Is trying her best🥹
- Funny?!( personally I love her humour)
- Solid 10/10 character development in s2
- Will forever be my baby💕
- (Now slight s2 spoilers)
- AVATRICE AVATRICE AVATRICE( for those of you who don’t know, it is a wlw ship between Ava Silva and Sister Beatrice)
- Still can’t believe our bisexual Jesus got resurrected twice
- I just fucking love her okay
2. Sister Beatrice( portrayed by Kristina Tonteri-Young)
Tumblr media
- part of the OCS
- Asian repppp( as an asian, any asian rep is a automatic W)
- Is the smart one( Carmila comes very close)
- Knows a shit tone of languages because of that private education( *in Mary’s voice* “yasss private education”)
- Is the one in charge because of how trustworthy she is
- Everyone is so badass but she is The badass( shameless plug to the badass Beatrice compilation I made)
- (Now on to some S1 spoilers)
- she’s a lesbian, gay🌈🌈🌈
- Asian lesbian representation my beloved
- Her coming out scene is literally perfect I’ve never since something this beautiful on TV for a long time
- It’s just so sincere and real and emotional and it’s making me feel stuff which I will allow
- (Now even more spoilers about s2)
- DID I MENTION AVATRICE
- also really really love how she now expresses herself more openly( get that character development Bea✨
- I can’t wait for them to reunite 🥹
3. Shotgun Mary(portrayed by Toya Turner )
Tumblr media
- part of the OCS( as an independent contractor)
- just trying to get revenge for her gf sister warrior Shannon
- gives no fucks
- get shit done
- Miss “Baby girl I’ve got two shotguns” Mary
- Might look scary/ cold but she cares about everyone(yes, even Lilith)
- The older sister of the OCS
- The kind of friend that will whoop your ass if she thinks your making a bad decision to knock some sense into you
4. Sister Lilith(portrayed by Lorena Andrea)
Tumblr media
- Part of the OCS( her family have been serving the church for like ages)
- Was supposed to be the next halo bearer(until it got shoved into Ava by accident)
- So she dislikes ava(understandable, again she’s the one who’s supposed to be the next halo-bearer)
- Ambitious
- Believes in the church/the rules more then the people( part of the reason why she is determined to get the halo back from Ava)
- Will do anything to achieve her goal(even if it meant hurting her friends/family)
- Strive for perfection(because she doesn’t want to disappoint her mother
- (S2 spoilers below)
- Idk what happened to her in s2
- The only way I could justify her actions is she was brainwashed or something
- Personally, I understand/like S1 Lilith more
- Doest stop her from being hot and making me simp for her tho
5. Sister Camila(portrayed by Olivia Delcán)
Tumblr media
- must protect at all cost
- The youngest out of the OCS
- The most inexperienced(again coz she’s the youngest)
- Beatrice is her mentor/ closest big old sister( absolutely love their dynamic)
- Camila 🤝🏻 Ava being the chaotic child™
- Is the tech girl
- Is shy and soft but
- she’s very capable of whooping your ass
- Seeing her slowly growing and believing in herself more is just🥰🥺
6. Mother Mommy Superion(portrayed by Sylvia De Fanti)
Tumblr media
- Mother of five (the OCS kids
- Girl boss✨
- Very protective of her kids
- Caretaker of the sister warriors( she trains them too
- Might seem harsh but is only because she wants what’s best for them
- Now how did mother superion get her title ohhh I wonder👀( it will be answered in S2)
- She means business
- Milf( okay have you seen her??
- Everytime she shows up my monkey brain just goes “mother is mothering.”
- Is serious like 90% of the time ( ohhh but I wonder whyyy did something happen I wonderrr(( also will be answered in S2))
7. Father Vincent(portrayed by Tristán Reuten)
Tumblr media
- Is a man(I know is obvious but he’s literally one of the only few man in the cast I had to give him a shoutout
- The man in charge and give orders to the sister warriors
- One of the only few people Mary trusts( I view them as mentor & mentee but I can also see adoptive father & adoptive daughter too)
- Calculative(you know, from being a strategic leader to the warrior sisters
- The authority figure that kinda gone rogue( by being on Ava’s side
- Respected by the sisters warriors( you know he is a father after all
Other random shit
Reasons why I recommend this show:
- it’s wlw( yes I’m once again talking about avatrice what about it)
- one of the few shows on the market rn that actually have a diverse cast( and not just a cast full of white people and one black/Asian/Latian-American person)
- with a diverse cast, comes with multiple characters speaking in languages other then English( Spanish, French, German etc)
- a almost all female cast
- and they are all strong badass women who will whoop your ass
- a show with Christian/ Catholic themes which fits well into the narrative( ie is not overly anti religion but also not too religious that gives you religious trauma)
- which brings us to the clever parallels and metaphors( one of the most obvious one is Ava, a character that was resurrected by a divine power, is a direct reference to irl Jesus)
- the character development is real( the main character was held accountable for her actions, realised her mistakes, takes responsibility and learns to do better)
-we got action, we got comedy, we got heartfelt scenes, what more do you need?
Now since I know nothing about cinematography I’ll just link this wonderful edit I found on YouTube and let it speak for it self.
Hope this guide thingy helps!
