Kimchay ficlet for #24??? 💜💜💜💜
"Whiskey in the Jar" - Metallica
Tumblr media
Whack for my daddy-o, there's whiskey in the jar, oh...
---
Korn watches the younger Kittisawat flip and spin a cocktail shaker through the air. It loops flawlessly over his shoulder to land securely in his hands. The boy's grin is blinding; pure, innocent joy and pride in a newly mastered skill. If it were still possible Korn is sure his heart would warm at the sight.
Porchay has been taking lessons from Porsche as an excuse to spend more 'brotherly' time together. His plan is working marvelously and Korn thinks Chay will be a wonderful addition to the Family. Especially as Kimhan's bubbly business partner.
Because while his most rebellious son has used growing fame to wiggle out from beneath Korn's thumb for now, Porchay's grip on Kimhan remains immovable.
No other beast could be so loyal or so fiercely devoted as Kimhan was to this boy. Korn would be impressed if he weren't so annoyed.
Kimhan was his attack dog. He'd done all the training. The discipline. He'd put in all the hard work. And for nothing! This foolish, silly child went and yanked it out from under him easy as breathing. Such charm can be dangerous as it is useful.
"Ta da!"
Korn is whisked back to the present by Porchay's gleeful exclamation. A sweet-smelling concoction slides across the polished teakwood bar and into his line of sight. The opposite edge of his glass is garnished with an orange peel. "What is this one called?"
"It's an, uhm,-" Porchay ducks his head to peer at a notecard "-a Manhattan! Kinn likes whiskey, so I took a shot in the dark and figured you might like it, too!"
Korn chuckles. "Excellent deductive reasoning."
He picks it up, swirls it around, and takes a sip. Oh! His grin widens to match the boy's as he goes in for another. Then a third. By the fourth, however, Porchay's smile takes on a predatory edge. Korn recognizes victory when he sees it. He's worn the same expression before.
"What did-"
He doesn't get to finish the question.
---
For two glorious minutes, Chay watches his almost-father-in-law wriggling on the floor in utter agony. He's filming it, of course, because Kim deserves to see this. But there isn't any need for commentary.
When the moving stops and Korn's face is blue, Chay slowly exhales. He knew the old fart would underestimate him by nature. Nobody except Kim really sees how deep and wide the river of his fury runs. He's grown up scared, lonely, and trying to lessen Porsche's burden. There's no reason for him to be merciful to a man like Korn; sitting in his fancy house making pottery and playing chess with his children for pawns.
In the wake of committing cold-blooded murder, Chay thinks Korn's death came almost too easy. He deserved far worse than what he got. Though the blatant look of surprise he'd gotten eases the sting.
Pride before the fall and all that.
Alright. Game over. Time for a new King on the board.
"Hey, err-" Chay pokes his head out the door and sheepishly wiggles his fingers at the guards outside. "Is there anyone available to help me with some trash? I don't think I can lift it by myself..."

Another Artfight attack, probably my last one for the year (unless I get something done quickly today)
This has been one of the biggest pieces I have ever made, it took me anywhere between 22 and 32 hours over the course of the last two and a half weeks. There were a lot of things happening in between working on this which is why I’m not entirely sure about the time. The full timelapse video is 16 minutes long. I’m really glad I pivoted from trying to make this into a comic, I don’t know that I would’ve finished it if I had. This is one of the only pieces with full shading I did this artfight, I didn’t draw in a light source but I really tried to work off of one. Even though I had a reference photo for the sketch, a lot of these poses were new to me and some were difficult to figure out (a couple of legs are missing, and one of the mugs are weird)
Overall I wanted to draw a bunch of pirates (loosely inspired by a scene in Bloody Cape) and that’s what I did and I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out

Release: February 1, 1999
Lyrics:
As I was goin' over
The Cork and Kerry Mountains
I saw Captain Farrell
And his money, he was countin'
I first produced my pistol
And then produced my rapier
I said, "Stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya"
I took all of his money
And it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money,
Yeah, and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she loved me,
No, never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman,
Yeah, for you know she tricked me easy
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da
Whack for my daddy, oh
Whack for my daddy, oh
There's whiskey in the jar, oh
Being drunk and weary
I went to Molly's chamber
Takin' Molly with me
But I never knew the danger
For about six or maybe seven,
Yeah, in walked Captain Farrell
I jumped up, fired my pistols
And I shot him with both barrels
Yeah, musha rain dum a doo, dum a da, ha, yeah
Whack for my daddy, oh
Whack for my daddy, oh
There's whiskey in the jar, oh
Yeah, whiskey, yo, whiskey
Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Now some men like a fishin'
But some men like the fowlin'
Some men like to hear,
To hear the cannonball roarin'
Me, I like sleepin',
'Specially in my Molly's chamber
But here I am in prison,
Here I am with a ball and chain, yeah
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da, heh, heh
Whack for my daddy, oh
Whack for my daddy, oh
There's whiskey in the jar, oh, yeah
Whiskey in the jar, oh
Songwriter:
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da, hey
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da, yeah
Traditional, Brian Michael Downey, Eric Bell, Philip Parris Lynott
SongFact:
In the first person, the song tells the story of a robber who makes good loot by attacking a (British) officer in the mountains, but who is subsequently betrayed and arrested by a woman with whom he has a love affair. The location of the events is the south-west of Ireland, with place names including Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny and Killarney. There are a total of seven stanzas, but only a few variants can be heard in full. An example of this is Gilgarra Mountain by Peter, Paul and Mary, released on their 1965 album A Song Will Rise. Otherwise, stanzas are omitted or combined in terms of content. There is an almost incalculable number of variants with different texts or names.
After each verse, a chorus is sung that mentions the Irish whiskey that gave it its name. In older versions, this is in a carboy or a bar instead of in a jug.
The original song is believed to originally date from the 17th or 18th century. The author is unknown.

Happy st Patrick’s day ☘️ everyone. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of Irish bars celebrating this holiday and having great Irish pub songs playing like the one I’m highlighting called “whiskey in the jar “
Whiskey in the Jar" (Roud 533) is an Irish traditional song set in the southern mountains of Ireland, often with specific mention of counties Cork and Kerry. The song, about a rapparee(highwayman) who is betrayed by his wife or lover, is one of the most widely performed traditional Irish songs and has been recorded by numerous artists since the 1950s.
The song first gained wide exposure when Irish folk band the Dubliners performed it internationally as a signature song, and recorded it on three albums in the 1960s. In the U.S., the song was popularised by the Highwaymen, who recorded it on their 1962 album Encore. Irish rock band Thin Lizzy hit the Irish and British pop charts with the song in 1973. In 1990, the Dubliners re-recorded the song with the Pogueswith a faster rocky version charting at No. 63 in the UK. American metal band Metallica in 1998 played a version very similar to that of Thin Lizzy's, though with a heavier sound, winning a Grammy for the song in 2000 for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Which one is your favorite version of the traditional Irish song
