WRC 10 has a comprehensive damage model. The rights of KT Racing to the WRC series will be transferred to Codemasters in 2023. The 50th anniversary sets the high points of this full-featured package, with fresh stages providing a neat tour through the series' rich history. Other than that, it is excellent. WRC 10 combines some lightweight management techniques (I. Loading times are reasonable, and you're seldom more than a few steps from the options screen for customizing gameplay, sound, or graphics to your liking. 0 is sometimes more attractive to view. You've got me. Some welcomed improvements don't turn out well in the future with negative side effects, like the potential of deciding on how long each rally will undoubtedly be.

When you have beaten all the challenges in the 50th-anniversary mode, you can test a new challenge in WRC 10. Because it stands today, it's not enough to be perceived as a significant improvement, regardless of how harsh it may seem, most likely because its Anniversary Mode is only a little frivolous. Although the main objective of the whole video game is to deliver logs, you're not only restricted to installing log-hauling accessories on your current truck. There are many other applications for your vehicles. You can find fueling stations along each game map. You can recharge your vehicle at them, so if you run out of fuel, you'll be able to return to the garage where you have an entirely new vehicle, attach a fuel-holding attachment to it, descend to the point where your vehicle is out of fuel, and refill it. It is also possible to attach trailers that resemble smartphone homes, and you can therefore transport those to another garage(s) in the game map to open it to be used in the future. Back again to logging, those who are truly adventurous can connect log cranes to their vehicles, pick up logs on their own, and then put them in the bed of a truck or onto the trailer.

The vehicles are principal in this game, as you will have a rather limited yet diverse selection of trucks to implement. Many are lighter and not as solid; however, others are huge beasts with the power to go to war with all of them. Of course, being bigger and more highly effective isn't always the best option, since you could get stuck in a situation where you most likely won't. Learn what kinds of trucks are perfect for exactly what, such as, for example, those that can carry modest logs and those that can handle medium logs and even two or more (e.g., from the sofa belonging to the truck or on the trailer), and of course you'll find those who can carry larger logs. Also, be aware that your vehicle can be damaged from driving over large obstacles at too high a speed or from driving over an incline and hitting the ground hard. Even though you can have "repair points" with trucks, you could be required to return to your garage for repairs before continuing.

It truly is amazing how addictive this game can be when played in single-player mode. This isn't a game that makes you sweaty, but it can be somewhat pleasant when you navigate across the many terrains that lie in front of you. Enjoying your truck, and even your trailer when loaded, as it makes its way across the rugged terrain is strangely mesmerizing. I found out that when I played the game, I wanted to do my perfect experience and take the ideal road, and when elements started getting difficult, I wanted to stay the course and complete my current task no matter what, but I didn't feel annoyed since there were plenty of possibilities to do with the unusual automobiles.

The physics of Spintires and Mudrunner are superior. The vehicle bounces around with enthusiasm over rocks, ruts, and slews, then glides over the aspects of gullies effectively. Camera control can be unusual until you become familiar with it. It isn't able to zoom as much as I'd like, but it is workable for many jobs. It would be a shame if it were left as it is, especially considering the quality of the PS4 version I played back in September. Perhaps with some tweaking and maybe a game update, the excellent handling of the other versions can make its way into this port. While not unplayable, it is a shame that WRC 8’s fantastic gameplay has been tarnished somewhat by the control issues of Nintendo’s console. A shame you’re probably also at the mercy of the Switch sticks, too. Your lights only illuminate so far ahead, which means you’re at the mercy of your co-driver and your reactions. This goes double for night races, which look as treacherous here as they are in real life, especially when it comes to places like the Welsh coast and its obscenely narrow roads atop terrifying cliffs. There were moments when my co-driver would tell me of an upcoming corner, but I’d be squinting trying to see through the shadows cast by the forest canopy overhead. When playing in handheld, it can also be a struggle to see what’s ahead sometimes, almost because of how good the shadows are. This does come at the cost of long loading times, however. It runs smoothly and looks great, with some excellent lighting and shadows. Visually, whether playing in handheld or docked mode, WRC 8 is still very impressive on the Switch. Once you do finally get to grips with your car (assuming you can) it’s still a good representation of the WRC. You can still mess around with deadzone and saturation settings, but the best I managed was a feeling of just about being in control of my car. WRC 8 does offer some control settings to help, but as sensitivity is set to -10 (the lowest setting) by default, it’s obvious this problem was known.

When it released two months ago on PS4, Xbox One and PC, WRC 8 did a stellar job of recreating the feeling of speeding through the woods and sliding around on the snow and ice of Sweden’s stages. Seriously though, it boggles the mind how fast World Rally Championship drivers barrel down the narrowest of narrow dirt roads, throwing their cars around like their lives aren’t in the balance during every second of every run. It’s basically the entire premise of rally driving. It’s just a fact that you’ll have to accept.

WRC 10 is available now for PC and all major game consoles including Xbox One and Series X/S, Playstation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch. Or, if having legit WRC ties isn't as important as enjoying a rally experience with better physics, pace notes, and historic vehicles, DiRT Rally 2.0 is still the superior title. If you're looking to step into a WRC game, scoring the older title at a lower price would likely suit many gamers just fine. If you already have WRC 9, it's hard to justify paying extra for more of the same in WRC 10. We also suspect tugging at heartstrings with Subaru and Mitsubishi content then not offering either in the base game will upset many fans. Adding 2021 stages and historic content in a WRC 9 DLC pack would've been just fine, but alas, that's not where the money lies. However, the format is the same as WRC 9 so it doesn't feel like a new game. It's not perfect, but rally fans seeking an immersive WRC experience will appreciate all it has to offer. More Cars, More Tracks It looks as good as the old game too, and these are all good things because WRC 9 was a major step forward for the franchise. It didn't take long to learn WRC 10 is a match for WRC 9 where it counts, offering a smile-inducing driving experience that isn't quite as hardcore as DiRT Rally 2.0. As before, we sampled the newest iteration on the Xbox One X playing through a 4k HDR television, racing with a modified Logitech G920 force-feedback wheel. WRC 10 Local 1vs1 Split-Screen PC Gameplay 1440p 60fps

We showcase local split-screen on WRC 10 with my son Val. We used 2 Xbox compatible controllers. They were picked up & instantly working from the game's UI. Unfortunately, only vertical split-screen was available. We couldn't find an option to switch to horizontal split-screen. If anyone found that option please let us know in the comments section below.

Part 2: The Machines

Last Saturday, we took a look at all the locations that V-Rally 4 has revealed to have so far, and the events they could include. Today, we are looking into the cars you will use to drive through the stages, the ravines and the dense forests that V-Rally 4 has to offer!

V-Rally 4 features 5 different disciplines that the player can tackle and race with. Those disciplines are Rally, V-Rally Cross, Hillclimb, Buggy and Extreme-Khana. We will go through each discipline now.

RALLY

Rally is the main discipline and focus of V-Rally 4. The discipline itself is split into 2 categories, historic rally cars and modern rally cars. Historic cars include legendary vehicles such as the Porsche 911 Carrera Safari (pictured above), the Alpine A110 of the 60s, the Lancia Delta HF Integralle that ruled the 90s Group A, and even some of the early modern WRC machines, such as the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII.

Modern cars meanwhile seem to include an equal variety of modern machinery. Cars that we have seen in action and promoted by the V-Rally 4 page include the Porsche 997 RGT, which took part in the FIA Group R-GT championship, and the Skoda Fabia R5 participating in WRC-2. We have no word or confirmation on if V-Rally 4 will include the modern WRC cars which were introduced last year though.

V-RALLY CROSS

V-Rally Cross is the second main discipline of V-Rally 4. It has been promoted excessively in trailers and footage, and gameplay footage indicates that the modern rallycross stage format will be used. Drivers race around a closed dirt circuit over a number of laps, and during one of the laps they have to perform a joker lap. Joker laps use a different sections of the circuit which are usually slower to the main circuit.

The car roster for V-Rally Cross includes a lot of the cars actively participating in the modern WRX championship, such as the Ford Focus RX and the Honda Civic Red Bull Rallycross. Additional cars that have been observed in the recent trailer include the Volkswagen Beetle, the Ford Fiesta ST and the Renault Alpine 310. More cars will be revealed at a later date.

Players can expect very fast cars in very fast and flowing stages, going through jumps and tight hairpins, as they race to the finish line.

HILLCLIMB

The hillclimb discipline includes state-of-the-art hypercars specially attuned for great speeds exceeding 300 kilometers/hour. The cars participate on a timed trial to reach the peak of a mountain in the lowest time possible, without the aid of a co-driver unlike in the rally discipline.

V-Rally 4 once again displays a variety of environments and cars to select from for this discipline. The flagship of this discipline has been the Suzuki SX4, which can be observed tackling the Mount Rainier course in the pic above. Not much else is known about the cars of the discipline.

BUGGY

Buggies are a new addition to the franchise. Like in similar games, the buggies will be able to tackle extreme situations and tracks with lots of jumps and obstacles, whist offering quick acceleration and good control through any of the surfaces. So far, only one buggy has been revealed for use in the game.

EXTREME-KHANA

Extreme-khana is a unique version of the gymkhana events that were made popular into the gaming world thanks to games like DiRT 3. Unlike other games, however, extrme-khana focuses on completing a certain number of laps around a technical circuit, situated in various locations, from parking lots to abandoned airfields. Those technical circuits are tough and twisty, and mistakes can cost the player dearly.

In order to tackle those, the player will have in their disposal specially modified cars with lots of torque and drifting capabilities, such as the Ford Mustand Fastback. Not much else is known about the cars included in this discipline thus far.

THE MACHINES THUS FAR

As with Part 1, we are going to present now the various cars that have been revealed by Kylotonn and which will feature in V-Rally 4 in greater detail.

First car on the list is the Porsche 997 RGT

The 997 Porsche RGT was amidst the first holomogated car for the newly-established FIA R-GT Cup. The rules for the cars were established in 2011, whilst the first proper chamionship was ran in 2015. Using GT Rear Wheel Drive cars specially attuned for rallying, the championship has been active since then, and includes racing in various WRC and ERC events alongside the main categories.

This particular Porsche variant has been a very popular choice with R-GT cup drivers, along with the Abarth 124 R-GT, and has won the majority of the events ran in the R-GT cup so far. Players should expect high power delivered to them from the back wheels once they hit the accelerator, and a lot of sideway action as they tackle in the corners of the RALLY events. A car of high demands, and high results indeed.

For the next car, we go back in time with the Alpine A110

The Alpine A110 had been one of the most famous cars of the last century. First manufactured in 1963, this Rear-Wheel, Rear-Engine rally car rode to victory in the 1970s in the rally world. During the inaugural IMC (International Manufacturers Championship) when it first began in 1970, as well as the inaugural WRC in 1973, the Alpine A110 won the manufacturers championship in 1971 and 1973 in the IMC and the WRC respectively. Throughout its participation, it earned the prestige reputation of one of the strongest rally cars of its time.

The Alpine has a rich history of tackling the harshest roads and coming out victorious on top, and the player can expect to do the same with this awe-inspiring legendary car. 

Next on our list comes the Tatum Super Buggy

The Tatum Super Buggy is one of the various buggies the player will be able to use for the buggy discipline. It is one of the most successful buggies in its category, largely preferred by amateur drivers and professionals alike. Highly modifiable to suit the needs of each individual driver, the Tatum Super Buggy can tackle any terrain and obstacle it comes across. The question then becomes: Can you?

Final on our list is the Suzuki SX4

One of the most neglected game genres on the Mac is racing. Sure, there have been some good racing games on the platform but aside from the occasional novelty title or outdated licensed game we really have not had a lot to be excited about. After you finish the yearly Nascar Racing (a must-have for any oval racing fan) refresh there really isn’t a whole lot left.

Seeing this hole, and recognizing the Mac community’s long standing support of shareware game developers, CodeBlender has released RallyShift, a WRC racing game. And this is for good reason, very few forms of racing translate to video games as well as rally. Games like the PS2’s Grand Turismo series, WRC and the multi-platform Colin McRae racing series have popularized the WRC and has vaulted humble econo-boxes like the Subaru Imprezza, Mitsubishi Lancer and Ford Focus to modern equivalents of the last century’s hottest hot-rods.

For those not familiar with the WRC championship, a few facts about rally racing: The WRC is arguably the second largest racing series in the world in terms of viewership and global reach behind Formula 1. Cars eligible for racing in the series are highly modified versions of actual production cars – beneath the 350 HP, four wheel drive, 1,200-pound machines is the unibody from a typical economy car. Races are essentially time trials, where racers attack the course against the clock. Times are added up and the lowest accumulated time over the course of several days of racing is the winner. Courses range from tight asphalt roads that wind their way up mountains with sheer drops, to logging roads in Northern Europe which sport jumps that are taken at 130 miles per hour sending cars sailing through the air, snow and ice covered roads, and sub-Saharan villages where the local pastime is to throw giant suspension destroying rocks onto the track. Rally racing is not short on excitement.

Weights and power vary by car, but I did not feel a significant difference when playing them. The color schemes are reminiscent of the popular Rally teams but lack sponsor names – this is understandable given the lack of an official license.

Game play tends towards the arcade side of the spectrum. Cars handle predictably, and there are some limited tuning options. I like a lot of body roll and loose handling for my Rally car games and I was able to get the feel that I like. Not as loose as Sega Rally, but not as tight as Collin McRae Rally. Car setup choices are fairly limited: gearing, suspension, and transmission.
