12. favorite character to write about this year

Oof this is a tough one. I feel like in general, in both this year and past ones, L is my favorite character to write for. It's always interesting figuring out how to write him and most of the scenarios I think up tend to be L-leaning. Death Note gives you just enough information to get a basic understanding of L's character, yet leaves so much to interpretation or just straight up doesn't tell you. This makes L the perfect sandbox character to play around with lol.

Although, I remember I wrote a few ficlets on Tumblr early this year that were B-centered. Trying to write an unhinged character yet giving them enough humanity to tell a narrative through is a fun challenge.

25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read

Ooh that's probably going to go to @decarbry for her Yabureme series. It's a my hero academia Nomu!Aizawa au. Most of her stuff is art and short comics on her blog but she does have some ao3 fanfic tie-ins. https://archiveofourown.org/series/3622732 . The way she writes is so deliciously tragic and angsty. It tickles my brain in that very specific way only certain fanfic can XD. Her prose is beautiful and I highly recommend it. Just a quick summary of what a Nomu is in case you're not a mha fan (possible spoilers):

The main villains create these genetically modified creatures from corpses. The corpse's base personality can sometimes remain intact but there are no memories and are created for specific purposes. In decarbry's au, Aizawa was taken and experimented on. He was implanted with several eyes and extra arms. The villains erased his memories of his previous life and of his husband, Hizashi.

Does Kurogiri sleep?

no but he does need to meditate for a few hours every day like he's some dnd elf

Watching them leave from the door felt strange. Wrong. Like it shouldn't be happening like this. As soon as the handle latched, he moved to the third story, climbing the stairs fast enough to catch the tail end of the little troupe disappearing around the street corner. He could hear Toga's laughter even from this distance.

Yabureme didn't budge from that spot, even as the evening drew to night. Spinner had said they'd be back before midnight, and though Yabureme had nothing to check it against, his internal clock said that it would be a few hours yet until that hour passed and he should start to worry.

He'd started to worry the second he lost sight of Tomura beyond that door.

He was meant to use this time to sleep. With no one to guard, it would be the perfect time to catch up, maybe eliminate some of the waver in his limbs. But the worry was a plague. He hadn't even tried to sleep, only listened and watched that little square of sidewalk they'd vanished from.

Kurogiri entered the room, but Yabureme ignored him for the moment, instincts dividing his attention in case an order was given. Even then he could feel a pinprick of pressure in the back of his head as the man stared him down.

Without seeing it, Yabureme sensed that it was the same look Kurogiri gave when he caught him nearly falling off of his feet in his vigils. Narrow-eyed and pointed, communicating his sins without actually saying anything. Kurogiri was the only one who really noticed on any consistent basis, but his concern was sharper and less warm than Spinner's could be.

He and Kurogiri both shared an innate purpose, after all: to protect. And they both knew that if he kept on like this, when the moment came, his body may just fail in its duty.

Perhaps that was why he'd been given the role of babysitter for the night.

Kurogiri and Yabureme are Shigaraki’s caretakers with their own separate purposes but at the same time they end up like siblings that Shigaraki needs to mediate. “tomura he’s TOUCHING ME” “Kurogiri, there’s literally two inches between you and his finger. stop it.” “no he was just touching me and stopped when you were looking he’s doing this on purpose”

I've decided upon reading further I would like to hug Yabureme, he seriously needs one, poor not so little guy

I always figured that Yabureme would react to hugs like dogs do? Y'know, how the collective public only just learned in the last decade that hugging your dog makes them nervous/afraid/stressed. Yabureme would just go tense. And maybe shake a bit. And not get any comfort from it at all. Just on the verge of freaking out :(
