What are the limits to Cosmo and Wanda's empathy links to Timmy? They can sense where he is, when he's calling for them or when he's in distress, but obviously not every single time. They don't always know when he's in danger and have even lost track of him on a few occasions.

Appendixes

In the Riddleverse canon, a lot of godparenting stuff is handled through a magical connection with the appendix (Playing with old sayings that it's a useless organ + the fact that Mark's appendix will destroy the entire planet á la "Five Days of F.L.A.R.G.")

- This link allows godparents to draw from the godchild's energy, turning a spell into a wish, which is much more powerful than things a fairy can do on their own.

- Using magic drains a fae's life force, but springboarding off a wish dramatically cuts down on the effects.

- Also, this connection is the reason godparents explode from magical back-up if they go too long without granting wishes (and why Norm did too despite being biologically a genie), but most of Fairy World gets by fine without exploding.

- Fae have to use their own internal magic if they can't sync up to an appendix, which is why Fairy Court decreed in "Pink and Gray" that Gary and Betty had to get their appendixes removed before the Pixies were allowed to adopt them. In fact, that's why we have this exchange in "Looking Back"-

Before Gary can formulate a convincing protest to wiggle out of that assignment, Poof's rattle starts to beep and flash a light behind him. He draws it out again and tosses an apologetic look Denzel's way. "Sorry- Can we wrap this up? Foop says my nonna is waiting for us. Can someone here make a wish? That would really help me out right now." Denzel says nothing, pretending to pull a few more papers together while also downing his steaming coffee. But when there's no response from Gary, he glances over. Gary just stands like a coat rack, his hands shoved in the pocket of his baggy purple hoodie. Denzel scoffs. "He means you, firecracker. He's looking for a young soul to bum energy off. His baby rattle rations him and getting to Fairy World takes a whole lot of energy." Gary tips his head. "Oh. I can't mind-sync with you, Poof. My appendix was removed when I was eight." Poof sighs. "Never mind; I'll pick up the check. But you guys both owe me a snack from the vending machine, poof poof."

- Once a godparent is officially separated from a child (i.e. all the paperwork goes through and every box checked), the godparent can choose to break the link or not. If they do, the child's appendix will rupture, which can be dangerous.

- If they don't want it removed, the godparents will continue holding that connection to their godchild (sometimes multiple at once), which can be miserable or embarrassing.

- Juandissimo is an example of a godparent who didn't snap the tie, playing into that grief we see in show canon where he couldn't hold down a job because he was constantly crying and eventually broke Da Rules to give Remy back his memories.

- This is also why Crocker was running down the hall with a passed-out Juandissimo in his arms during the opening scene of "Looking Back"- Remy was in severe pain from the damage to his yoo-doo doll.

All this to say, as long as they're officially assigned to Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda both have a connection with his appendix; they're officially licensed godparents with legal links. Poof pinches some of his energy even though he's not supposed to... the fae care for godchildren, but they also don't quite get the whole... boundaries and consent thing, and they will just take what they're offered sometimes

- Hence why they have Da Rules to keep them in line; Poof's pinching goes largely unnoticed since he's not being monitored by the Amity Agency.

The connection Cosmo and Wanda have with Timmy allows them to draw on his energy and grant wishes when they hear them. The link can help them keep rough track of where he is, but not perfectly.

They prefer to be in the area as well, which makes it way easier to springboard off his energy. If they're far away from him, they need to concentrate and use their own magic. Otherwise, they might "yank" his energy or hurt him in some way.

- Hence Cosmo and Wanda sending Timmy I.O.U.s when they were scrambling with Poof and Timmy griping that they have time to send him those notes, but not time to grant his wishes. Sending notes was a little pulse of magic in his direction. Giving him what he actually needed would have required them to turn their attention away from Poof, focus on what Timmy needed (Extremely difficult from far away), process the situation, then try to weave his wish with their own magic without hurting him or messing up what he asked for.

tl;dr - I think your term "empathy link" is a good way to describe it. They can sense when he's distressed, and they might stretch their energy towards him to determine if he's in immediate danger. It's not a tracking link... just an energy tug.

Last movie: Twisters in theaters. Top Gun: Maverick in actuality. I needed some background noise for a very mindless work thing yesterday.

Sweet, spicy, or savory: Yes.

Relationship status: Protecting my peace.

Current obsession: It's stone fruit season, baby! The farmers market is really showing off these days. In addition to peaches and nectarines, I have been living off of heirloom tomatoes and fresh sweet corn. Public libraries (though this is a perennial obsession). Fig-scented things. Waking up without an alarm. Actually having time to write when I want to write.

Tea or coffee: Coffee is my go-to in the morning (cold brew at home, oat milk lattes as a treat, flat whites when the weather is cooler or I don't want that much oat milk in one go). Tea thereafter: a homemade London Fog (use vanilla bean paste!) if I need a little more caffeine, mint, or ginger.

Last thing I Googled: "[my local transit system] arrivals" because Google Maps lies about bus arrival times all of the time.

Here's a headcanon inspired by my one-shot "Swim"

Executive Dysfunction Chloe Slacker Chloe went to Unwish Island after being unwished post-"Sash and a Rash." She hangs out with Nega-Timmy, Timantha, Evil Jimmy / James, Imaginary Gary, and all the rest.

Timantha enjoys having a girl around to talk to, though Slacker Chloe isn't big on conversation. They both like pizza, though.

Nega-Timmy - known control freak and obsessed with everyone's looks - can't stand her. Slacker Chloe drives him insane by sticking a fork in his whole "Society will crumble without make-up" schtick.

I like to think his feelings waver a lot, so sometimes he'll carry her around and hoist her over his head like "See? This is what you'll become without make-up! Come to my salon!!"

However, Slacker Chloe is just so chill about everything that people like her a lot. Sometimes this is anti-advertisement in that Unwish Island residents realize they don't have to go to the salon to feel good about themselves. Nega-Timmy is flummoxed.

If she's a part of Chloe, I feel like Slacker Chloe should still be admired by others, though this time instead of being fawned over because she gives people No Homework Passes and lemon bars and other gifts, it's because she's just self-confident. She's the type who sits by the pool, but one of her friends will grab her hand and hold it in the air to volunteer her for projects and she'll still lazily smile. She knows what's going on... she just can't be bothered to care. She'll show up where she's assigned, but she'll probably just sit there.

Imaginary Gary gets on her case for littering all the time. Also, I feel like James would get irritated with her neutral responses to everything and he'd sulk a lot. It would be his life mission to dump crabs on her to see if she'll react. She won't even brush them off; she'll just smile at them and say "Meh..."

Her friends like her, but they'll make a show of acting like they can't stand her, in the sense that they'll huff loudly and sit next to her with their arms wrapped around her legs. She likes them too, but chronically fails to show it.

Her friends look after her because she probably wouldn't leave her room if they didn't check on her now and then, but being who they are, they can't blatantly care about her, y'know? So they'll just run in yelling that they're practicing evacuation drills and throw her over their shoulders and run away. Except Imaginary Gary is like 5 so he just kinda drags her across the floor until their friends make a show of taking her away from him.

1.-apocalipsis: Your average zombie apocalypse story but with zombie animals. Lots of drama, isolation, and decaying mental health

2.-circusa: Horror circus story. A circus in the forest that kidnaps and tortures children for profit. Inspired by the song Dark Wood Circus

14.-Wild Schools: High School/College AU. Lots of school drama. OCs are allowed

15.-Magic sans Freedom: Magical Girls AU. Little magic creatures, sparkling jewerly, and 2 kids that get involved in teenage drama, but they only want to play with their magic.

16.-Chartreuse: Martin starts working in a Night Club

17.-Kratt Swap: Toodles and Salutations change places with Chris and Martin. Now they are the protagonist. AU with 2 versions: 1. T&S are humans, C&M are robots 2. T&S are robots, C&M are humans

18.-eenie meenie tiny bros (emtb): missfortunes involving the Miniaturizer shrinking one of the bros but not being able to get him back to normal. AU with 3 versions: 1.Martin is tiny 2.Chris is tiny 3.Both are tiny

19.-Only Human: a pair of “gods”, intrigued and fascinated by the life on earth, decide to visit. By mere casually, the Kratt team were fighting Zach and Donita in that exact place and time. And it looks like the gods liked them

20.-The Forbidden Lake: Inspired by Swan Lake. The bros went where they shouldn’t and were transformed into animals.

21.-Bloody Bouquet: zartin + hanahaki disease :D

22.-Souls Garden: universe where people grow plants according to their emotions

26.-mirror 43: crew swap + evil crew. Aviva, Koki and Jimmy look like good people but are bad. Zach, Donita and Gourmand look like bad people but are good. The bros are still the same but tangled in this mess

27.-Abanico de Emociones: After touching a weird hand fan, the bros are now separated into their emotions. Cue chaos, revealed secrets and probably some personal issues that weren't meant to be known.

28.-among our time: among us au. Heroes and Villains wake up in a spaceship with a simple mission: Discover who the imposters are and you will go back home. Each time they fail, the “game” resets... and the imposters change too.

29.-Rayos y Centellas: Martin(16) and Chris(14) get transported to a fantasy world. Magic, talking creatures, epic battles. They love the place and arent looking for a way back; also theyre the “Chosen Ones” and have to defeat the current evil lord. After years of training they have their epic battle, win, and are crowned the new heroes of the land.

30.-What Is Not There: How do you explain creation to a machine? this is a question going around Martin’s head when Zach the android told him he wanted to be an inventor. Also its a zartin AU

31.-vampirillo: the WK crew and almost all the villains are mythical creatures. There are also lots of mythical creatures around, living peacefully among humans... most of the time. Also its a zartin AU. OCs are allowed

32.-Rotten: Hunger Games owo. AU with 3 and a half versions (the half is just the normal cast being thrown into the Games)

33.-Putrid and Stuck: apocalyptic world where Salutations/Toodles are the zombies resulting from Martin/Chris' death. Martin and Chris are stuck as ghosts and have to make sure their zombies dont get killed.

34.-mermaid kratts: mermaids! do i have to say more? :D

35.-Beginning and End: some issues with the Time Trampoline turned Martin into a kid and Chris into an old man. Better fix this soon because it look like they keep aging...

36.-Paradise: Everything is beautiful. Everything is perfect. Just the four of us, living hundreds of adventures, creating thousands of memories. It's beautiful. It's lovely. A tailor-made paradise for our exact desires. So beautiful. So perfect. Us. Four. As it has always been.
