although it's short, i love how this remake turned out~ this definitely is a modernized Xiang Qin & Zhi Shu 🎬📜💋❤️

Consciousness moves through him honey thick. Lao Wen hums, licking his lips, tasting salt and the bright tang of copper. A sharp bite of pain cuts through the fog and it's that that anchors him back into the present.

There's the slow realisation that there's something heavy in his gut. The kind of weight you get when you're bloated from a good meal, but stranger because you're not feeling it right in the back of your throat. "Hey, hey, hey, you're alright," Comes a soothing voice, followed by a gentle hand that curls over his cheek and a smile that immediately settles his stuttering heartbeat.

"Ah Xu? What--"

Lao Wen turns into his hold, only to feel the insistent weight of his belly pull at his focus. To his credit, Ah Xu merely laughs when he follows where his eyes fall.

Instead of abs, there's a distention that stretches out his skin. Not unlike the pregnant bellies of the women, he's seen before, but...

"We did it?"

Ah Xu doesn't answer immediately, choosing instead to lean in, brushing away the hair in his eyes, and sliding their lips together. Lao Wen arches into the comfort of his beloved's body hovering over his.

Slender fingers card through his hair for a moment before Ah Xu hums. "You did it. You took all of it, all of them, so well."

He doesn't feel tacky or any of the usual nastiness that comes with him coming all over himself. So it means that Ah Xu or someone else - smart money is on Han Ying - must have cleaned him up somehow.

Lao Wen splays his hand over the swell, revelling in the way his body aches and how he feels so strangely at peace with this.

"I..." Lao Wen tries, looking up at his Ah Xu. "How..."

With a gentle smile, Ah Xu dips in for a gentle peck to the corner of his mouth. "They are waiting for you to wake. I'll go get them, shall I?"

I know we think about Han Ying a lot but do we think enough about Han Ying?? About Han-tongling?? Do we think about how he absolutely ordered the hit on the thief Fang Buzhi - but did he order it before or after he met Zhou Zhishu again? Was it an order to pursue leads of the Glazed Armor at all costs, or because he wanted to pursue a lead for ZZS with a casual disregard for the lives of people with “grey” morality which I will table for my feral HY agenda? Or both, and HY’s loyalties were conflicted? (A tasty option.)

Or was it perhaps even because  - allowing fandom territory rites - HY decided to investigate the man following his Lord, his zhuangzhu, and found WKX had a piece of the Glazed Armor in plain sight that was conveniently stolen? I think HY, taught by ZZS, would be extremely cautious about every variable that crosses his path. I also think they all, WKX included, have that in common.
