already gone--amnesia hinny au, ginny wakes up without six years of memory and no context for the world she finds herself in

the path from you-- a post-war hinny au/bodyguard fic, ginny is receiving anonymous letters and harry gets assigned to her case... will their shared history get in the way of solving the mystery?

love wasn't designed for the cynical-- (not posted/oneshot) amnesia/timeloop percabeth au, percy pisses off hera (again) and gets stuck in an alternate universe where he and annabeth never got together. he has to relive the same day over and over with no idea how to get out

spring fever-- a/b/o & sex pollen hinny au, a mutation in the cherry blossoms reactivate a long dormant biological reaction and humanity dissolves into a sex crazed pandemic. through absolutely no fault of their own, harry and ginny end up riding out the stay at home measures together... and maybe, accidentally, trigger each others designations

it's a match!-- (not posted/oneshot) an epistolary (text fic/socmed au) where harry and ginny keep matching across all dating apps over the span over several years. will they ever move past their casual acquaintanceship and actually go on a date?

scenes i'm excited to write:

i'm really looking forward to writing the entirety of chap, 19 to be honest, but specifically harry and ginny trying and failing to have a secret relationship

i made the graphics so all i have left to do for this one is format the messages... and i'm actually not looking forward to this part because it's so time consuming and trial and error and it's frustrating for me so that's why i haven't posted it yet whoops.... other than that it's done 😅

Fiber arts update!

hooooookay. Been a while.

Weaving first: finished another scarf

the tension was so fucked - so unbelievably fucked - that it's a miracle I got a scarf out of this. I think I accidentally wound the warp on tilted or something, and then ended up having to tension individual strings in many creative and interesting ways.

That aside, it's not washed yet, but it turned out mostly okayish in the end. The yarn did have some very unfortunate color changes - there's a whole row of really abrupt orange stripes in there that look weird with all the long fades - but that wasn't on me, so whatever. It's a scarf, it's nice and colorful, and I like the size of it.

Then, spinning: 200 goddamn grams (just over 7 ounces) of 4-ply incredibly blue Merino.

It is hard to overstate how violently blue this stuff is. Unfortunately, the fiber was also somewhat meh - had some odd little lumps and the occasional bit of vm, and I would've loved to do more prep on it, but spinning from the fold limited my options somewhat. But ah well, it is what it is.

The little middle bit of yarn is also cable-plied because I ran out of two singles and essentially went "fuck it, why not". I didn't want to mess around with too many center-pull balls or spend forever rewinding it.

Still needs to be washed, too, but yeah - that's a HUGE chunk of stuff I can check off my to-do list.

Next up is the same amount of 4-ply grey merino, which I might cable-ply in its entirety tbh, but I'm not sure yet.

Also, I've officially been spinning for a year, as of like three weeks ago! So, happy fiber arts anniversary to me I guess.

So when they discover that one rogue Sol scientist had generated 25 babies with a defective Probability Manipulation knack and abandoned them out in the world fourteen years ago, it's up to SolCorp to find them and bring them back. But maybe their knacks weren't so defective after all because as three of the Venus 25 grow into adulthood, improbable things start happening that will change SolCorp and the world forever.

Sunset is a slow-burn of mounting tension and stakes that only get higher with expansive worldbuilding and a majority LGBTQIA+ ensemble cast that has something for everyone from espionage to adventure to romance and even a dash of monster hunting.

any enemies to lovers (bonus if it's enemies to fuck buddies but still enemies to lovers)

20) Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?

I work on so many 🫠 (melting face emoji)

But honestly, a combo of both! I always have a massive list of WIPs (think: upwards of 30 at a time), because I start projects and then have difficulty finishing them. I typically have around 5 fics on rotation that I am actively working on at a time.

However, I do finish things best when I buckle down and like, dedicate a week or two or whatever to finishing a single thing. So typically when something is getting towards being done, that's what'll happen, and then I'll go back to slowly picking away at many things.

21) Can you accurately predict how long your fics are going to be? If you can, what's your secret?

23) Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard?

I love writing dialogue SO much more hahaha! Honestly part of description for me is that it takes a lot more cognitive work - especially if it's setting/space and place type stuff. I can picture and think about how bodies move in my head pretty easily, but I find it really hard to do with places!!!

Dialogue, on the other hand, just comes naturally (most of the time). I think I could 1000% write a fic that was entirely dialogue, I just won't because it's not what I find fun to read.

30) Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't.

God. I mean I have many, many abandoned or half-abandoned fics - more for UnDeadwood than OFMD, but definitely in both. (Ranging from anywhere from a couple thousand words to one that is 90K and long abandoned [someday I'll give in and just publish shit as is])

A big one though was an UnDeadwood Watership Down AU - in which everyone (main 5 cast members, at least) were shifters, and Clayton's shifted form was a rabbit. It was Clayton POV, and laced with all sorts of the Watership Down rabbit religion etc. I think I had like 3-4K written for it.

Oh my god I also had a Ladyhawke AU??? For UnDeadwood?? That was devastating and very fun to write and never got finished - it also had somewhere around 5K written for it.

And that's not even considering the number of "hey omg this would be so fun" ideas - I love thinking about new fun wild AU's, and am very grateful for friends who listen and "yes and" me!!

39) Wildest AU scenario you have written?

Oh god that's a fun question.

UnDeadwood - I think it's a toss up between the jaws that bite, the claws that catch (snake creature Matthew, smutty Matty/Clayton(/Aly) in which Matthew has two dicks. That's it that's the fic. It is unfinished.)

The other UDW option is i found love where it wasn't supposed to be, written with @lovewithagirl, which features a whole lot of ghost sex (as in, sex between an alive person and a ghost)

I have a lot of different AU's for OFMD, but I think they feel a little more "normal" in comparison - they're more stuff like the Remington Steele AU or the Die Hard fic. The wildest is probably Ask Me Anything, written with @yerbamansa, which is a TealOranges Tumblr SMAU in which there is timey-wimey bullshit. Or maybe the Plumbing the Depths series, which is the Jim/Olu/literal kraken! Ed series, mainly for the rarepair.

Titles

Intertwined: Sirius keeps Harry once he rescues him from Godric's Hollow. Harry is born with mismatched eyes that will mirror his soulmate's eyes. It has a lot of tropes I'm fond of - soulmates, sirius lives, background wolfstar, more powerful enemies and more powerful harry/hermione.

Meddling With Time : Harry and Hermione are thrown into a "fixed" timeline after they travel back to the Marauders era to kill Voldemort. They thought they would be erased when their mission was completed ... instead, they're dealing with whole new lives.

Matched : Social Media AU; Voldemort defeated in the first war. Hermione was raised in France and meets Harry when they're adults through a dating app in which they both lie and say they're muggles. They find out they're not muggles... when they meet as coworkers at the Ministry.

Red Thread of Fate : Harry always wondered who Hermione's first love was - it was one of the things she never talked about and it brought them together in an unconventional way. It wasn't until 10 years later traveling back to the past that he realizes it was him.

Remedy : Post war Harry and Hermione are struggling to deal with the aftermath and learning who are they are now after all their experiences.

All Harry/Hermione pairings and all pretty wildly different. Intertwined is at the top b/c I honestly am so done with this WIP being stuck in third year. After I move to fourth year though more of my attention is going to be split between Matched and Meddling with Time.

Upcoming Scenes, Events, Details

Intertwined: We're right up to their first kiss and realizing they are in fact soulmates! Yay!

Meddling with Time: Ahh there's so much in this one. So many things I'm looking forward to publishing. I think the biggest scene and this is a spoiler but it's Hermione realizing why Harry looks so different physically when everyone else looks pretty much the same. She does not handle the realization well.

Matched: Looking forward to writing the fight and the reveal of who's been doing everything. It's going to be fun.

Red Thread of Fate: sounds bad but I'm looking forward to writing the break up scene between Harry and Ginny.

Remedy: LOL. Easy. The first sex scene.

Felix and Pollen wasn't a match-up I had ever considered before, but I'm sorta jiving with it in an extreme way. Nothing else is going his way in this fic, so I have to give him something.

I only have 4 posted fics (3 complete and 1 WIP), so I'm going to include all of those plus a bonus one from a temporarily discontinued WIP, because the pattern is so strong and it's further evidence of that point, lol.

I'm still laughing so hard, because I had no idea if there would be any pattern or not, but OF COURSE there is an insanely strong pattern (hi, I'm Tara, and I'm autistic AF 😂). Not only is it a pattern, but it follows a rule, which is: The Role Of The First Sentence Is To Introduce The Character And Set The Scene. Every single one of these starts with the POV character's name. 3 of the 5 involve said character turning/looking around, and the other two are sound-based (hearing or making sounds). I swear I had NO IDEA! This is so incredibly funny to me 😂😂😂

Kane leaned his head out the car window. Gorgeous fields of golden corn rippled in waves over the hillsides. Wildflowers dotted the grass on either side of the road, splashes of yellow, red, and purple amidst a sea of green. A breeze flowed through the car, smelling fresh and clean, lovely and warm.

3. Thirteen Letters (Kane and Feels)

Brutus Feels wiped his hands on his trousers. They were already coated in dirt, and his hands didn’t help. He picked up the basket of collected flowers and stood up.

Top of the list of unthinkable things that are apparently incredibly normal here: coed dorms. Brian lives on the top floor; the only card-locked omega-only floor in the building. He still remembers the frantic, mortifying conversation his father had with the housing department on speaker. He’s thankful his dad got him a room on the top floor, but he tries not to think about all the things he said and implied to the housing lady on the phone. Hot guy lives on the third floor; two floors below him. He knows, because every time he sees him the temptation to follow him to his room and beg for his knot is nearly overpowering. It’s mortifying. Brian’s never been like this about an alpha. He’s a good omega. Too tall and apparently too stupid to know that everything he thought he knew isn't actually true here, but he’s a good omega.

BOOK REPORT

I had wanted to read this book eventually but it got immediately bumped up on the list when someone pointed out that it had basically the same plot as my WIP. I dropped everything and started reading to make sure it wasn't too similar. The book was just getting good and explaining things when the free pages on the internet ran out so I had to wait for the physical copy to come in the mail. I am pleased to say that besides the basic plot, it is not like my book. And now I'd like to read the next two in the series.

Anyways, the report!

The book is about a history teacher named Richard Davey that has a very boring life. He is a fan of Napoleon and finds out that time travel is real and possible through a mysterious shop keeper so he goes back to Waterloo to try and change history and give his life more meaning.

It was an interesting story and I never knew what was going to happen next. It starts right when he goes back in time but explains how he got there by use of flashbacks. I actually loved how this worked. Usually when there's a back and forth or either time or characters, I find myself having a clear favorite and wishing the other one would hurry up so I can get back to the good part. In this book, both were the good parts! I was just as happy to be back in time as I was to be getting the explanation of how he got there and vice versa.

Unfortunately, the tense of the story was driving me crazy. If I wasn't already interested in the topic, I probably would've ditched it by the end of the first page. Here's an example of what I'm talking about that doesn't contain any important information:

He returns to the carriage and rummages in his bag. He extracts his penknife and the dried sausage wrapped in his handkerchief. Standing at the open end of the cart, he spreads the square of linen as a tablecloth and carefully cuts several slices. He throws the small hunk of meat attached to the string to the back of the barn. At least he will know where the rodents are for a while. The sausage's pink flesh is mottled with white fat and shreds of garlic. The skin is covered in fine white mould with the texture of paper. He teases it free and adds it to his offering among the fallen timbers.

He chews each slice slowly, savouring the taste as the rich meat replenishes his energy. When finished, he takes a gulp from his round, wooden water canister. British army issue is pale blue but his is plain inside a hessian jacket. It would not help his cause to fall into French hands in possession of British army kit. He replaces the cork stopper and repacks his haversack.

My other big problem with the book, is that Richard is being described as being middle aged, balding, and kinda pudgy yet every young attractive girl in the book is flirting with him/throwing themselves at him. The other characters are good though!

Modern, non-magic AU where James and Sirius were best friends and childhood sweethearts until Sirius' music career took off, at which point he breaks up with James while on tour. James is devastated, Remus is there for him, and James realizes that maybe the relationship he thought he'd have wasn't the one he was meant to keep. Of course, their burgeoning romance is complicated by Sirius' return; I posted a snippet here, for those interested.

2. pf peter pan [Prongsfoot, possible hints of non-endgame Jily]

Peter Pan-based AU where a young and miserable Sirius runs away from home and is rescued by James, who whisks him away to Neverland, an enchanted isle where you can grow older, but you can never grow up. "Adult" feelings like romance make you grow up (that is, age past your teens), and Sirius eventually finds himself struggling not to develop feelings for James because he doesn't wanted to be separated from him.

3. pf rted [Prongsfoot? Jily? Prongsfoot + Jily? Jilypad?]

Very loosely inspired by Dreamworks' The Road to El Dorado, this is a fantasy-adventure AU where James and Sirius are partners-in-crime and best-friends-with-benefits who hit on a potentially huge score; Lily, looking to escape her current circumstances, happens to possess Vital Information and inserts herself into the party in exchange for her help. James and Lily flirt and maybe start to fall for each other, and while Sirius is fine with James' having other flings, there's something different about this one and Sirius is Not A Fan. Final ship is up in the air, as you can see.

04. pf wyld hunt [Prongsfoot]

A Prongsfoot Bingo Entry (Fairytale AU), James is the lonely son of the local lord, befriended in childhood by a black puppy that wanders out of the woods. The puppy becomes his constant companion, excepting its regular disappearances, until the day it doesn't return. As a young man, James glimpses a black dog through the trees, ventures into the forest and is captured by the fae: If he can survive three nights of pursuit in the form of stag, he'll earn his freedom. Sirius is the Fae Prince who befriended James in the form of a dog, and who was cursed to remain a hound when he came to care for James and refused to lure him into the woods to be hunted.

05. rg 01 [Prongsfoot, one-sided Jegulus]

A Regency Romance starring James as a young Earl seeking a good match, arriving at his host's country estate to woo Lady Regina Black before becoming entangled with her older brother, Lord Sirius Black, notorious rake and the future Marquess. Sirius is back from the Continent only because he can't afford to jeopardize his inheritance more than he already has, but he's caught off-guard when his attraction to James Potter proves his first experience with something more than lust. There's a snippet feat. fem!Regulus here.

Future Scenes

mc pf breakup - Sirius tries to rekindle, James finds the embers aren't completely out, and they either have sex and Remus later finds out by walking in the next morning or they're about to have sex/in flagrante delicto when Remus walks in. Yes, he has the key to James' flat. Yes, this is purely self-indulgent drama. <3

pf peter pan - The arrival of Lily and Sirius' jealousy, paired with the angst over James possibly falling for Lily and thus 'growing up' for someone else. (Don't worry, non-Jily fans, this is just Sirius' worst-case scenario.)

pf rted - James and Sirius in bed at some inn, a cuddly/sweet/playful morning after that establishes their relationship, which is clearly more than the casual FWB they claim it is, before their new adventure gets underway.

pf wyld hunt - The night before the third hunt, where James manages to sneakily accomplish the tasks that Sirius gave him and Sirius is able to visit him in human/fae form, allowing them to spend the night together before the uncertainty of the day to come.

rg 01 - Sirius, under pretext of inviting James to see the rare flora in the estate's greenhouse, has an assignation with the young earl in the humid, perfumed air. <3 (Or, Sirius expects PWP but gets porn with feelings.)

Fortnight of Books, Day 2

Most surprising (in a good way) book of this year?

To Own a Dragon: Reflections on Growing up Without a Father by Donald Miller. I think I wrote this down on my list years ago when I was going through the section of my library on fatherhood for research for my WIP, but I neglected to write down the subtitle, and therein lies the surprise. See, when I got to it on my list and checked it out, I discovered that it wasn't a fantasy book about dragons at all, but Donald Miller's autobiographical advice to men like himself who grew up without a stable father figure in his life. I was surprised, but decided to carry on reading anyway (even though he has a note in the beginning that his book is not for women, lol). But what a wonderful book! I really liked Miller's down-to-earth way of talking about things, and he had some solid advice. Bonus: He's a Christian, and he said right up front that that was going to be at the center of his story and any advice he had to give. I'm really glad I read it, even if it had nothing to do with dragons ;)

Most disappointing book/Book you wish you enjoyed more than you did?

Hmm. Maybe that would be Gutted: Beautiful Horror Stories, a collection of short horror stories from various authors. Some of them were really quite good - like one that was written in a choose-your-own adventure style, where you explore a haunted house. There was one I found truly terrifying, about a monster in a rock quarry next to a path the main character would take to go home when she was a kid; and, though she tells herself she's being silly, deep inside she's still afraid of it. Really strong visuals in that one. Unfortunately, I thought there were a lot more misses than hits in this one. Some of them barely even counted as horror, and some of them I wouldn't call "beautiful."

It also includes Neil Gaiman's "The Problem of Susan," which...yeah <_<

“You were a feral little thing, weren’t you.”

Grace opened her mouth, to no doubt give him a piece of her mind for the egregious offence of being called a ‘little’ anything – then she closed it and huffed. “Doran told you about the mollusc, didn’t he.”

“You must have driven your mother spare.”

“I wish I hadn’t.”

“I cannot imagine she wanted you to be anything other than yourself.”

“Don’t,” Grace snapped, “presume to know anything about her.”

Nathaniel was silent for a moment. “When I was boy in the Helvetic,” he eventually said, “I used to roam the streets after dark with an unsavoury crowd. We would all dare each other to sneak into abandoned houses infested with chimaera spiders, find a nest, and –”

“What makes you think I care about your childhood?”

“I didn’t particularly care to hear about yours, but I listened politely when Doran shared the details; the least you could do is return the favour. We’re stuck here until dawn, at any rate. Have you anything better to do?”

Grace sniffed, which he took as tacit permission to continue.

“When my mother found out what I was doing, she hauled me through the condemned alleys by my ear until we found a corpse of someone who had succumbed to the chimaerachnid’s bite. She sliced open the arm and made me look at the eggs infesting every single vein, artery and muscle until I threw up.”

“That’s awful.”

“I was an awful child. Moody, reckless, always getting into trouble.”

After a heavy silence, Grace murmured, “You must have driven her spare.”

2. the unmaking of lily luna

(Maybe you were supposed to. Maybe you weren’t meant to survive that first time. What if that’s why you kept dying? What if that was the universe’s way of telling you that you were supposed to stay dead?)

But more than that:

The smartest, bravest man you have ever known – a man who has been more of a father to you than your own has, a man who has saved your life time and time and time again – will be gone forever.

(And that – that is unacceptable.)

You slip your trembling fingers under the bloody, shredded collar around his torn throat and you feel it, the weak thready pulse of a man about to die.

You don’t understand. He survives, you know he survives. He’s been there your entire life, he lived. Harry defeats Voldemort and returns after the Battle and finds Severus Snape clinging to life, everyone knows that – it’s in all of the history books, it’s what Harry said happened in all of those post-War interviews he gave, it’s what is taught in the History of Magic classes at Hogwarts. But these wounds – how can anyone survive these wounds? He can’t die, this isn’t how it happened, this isn’t how it happened –

“Wake up,” you beg, touching a shaking hand to Severus’s ice-cold cheek, his skin as white as marble. “Wake up – please –”

His lips move. His breath rattles in his chest. He whispers your name. Then Severus Snape breathes his last, and –

3. Io Station

She has existed long before the Empire rose, and she will live on long after the Empire falls. She is as beautiful as she is grotesque; cruel as she is kind. She is old and tired, but she never sleeps, determined to endure for the two million souls who reside within her walls.

She is Io Station.

4. Tacita

“Wanted for the murder of Legate Adriana Lucia!”

The woman peered down at her – not with disgust or horror, but with curiosity. “A serious crime, child.”

A crime! The only crime was that the Legate thought it her right to beat her slaves so savagely in the first place. The only crime was that Adriana Lucia had dangled the girl’s pendant before her eyes and laughed, cruel and mocking, and threatened to melt it down for an arrowhead unless the girl behaved. The only crime Tacita had committed was that Legate Adriana Lucia’s death by her hands hadn’t been on purpose.

Oh, sure, she’d fantasised every day how she would kill the Legate. Slowly, Tacita had imagined while rubbing the Legate’s calloused feet with oils. Maybe she would drug her nightly milk and tie her up in her bed, and slowly pry off each of her fingernails as revenge for the lashings. Or she would have increased the temperature in the Legate’s bath so slowly she wouldn’t realise it until she was boiled half to death, right in the middle of the long dark eclipse for irony.

Whether or not Tacita would have actually done it was hardly the point; the point was that she’d never imagined it happening so quickly. Without thought. She’d lunged for her mother’s pendant with a screech and collided with the Legate’s body with such force that the Legate staggered backwards, lost her balance, and split her skull open against the corner of a marble table as she fell.

She had been dead before she hit the ground.

“It was an accident,” Tacita snarled.

“You don’t sound terribly sorry for it,” the woman noted.

“Why should I?”

“Does the loss of a life at your hands not upset you? Do you feel no guilt?”

Tacita shrugged. “Will it change what happened?”

If the woman was disturbed, she did not show it. “An accident, you say? Suppose I believe you. No doubt it was a tussle over that remarkable pendant around your neck.”

Tacita’s hand gripped it tightly. “I didn’t steal it, if that’s what you’re implying,” she snapped. “It was my mother’s."

5. Strike Force

Ten years ago, Jocelyn Carver of the Jovian Armies brutally ended the Ganymedean Insurgency and restored law and order to the Jovian Empire - but earned herself a cruel moniker: The Butcher of Ganymede.

Professor Catriona Ballard, professor of politics at Conamara University on Europa, has ridden the wave of fame delivered by her damning expose on Carver - but with the release of a new article exposing unsavoury practices within the Jovian Empire comes not fame, but vilification. Stripped of her accolades, titles and security, Ballard finds herself arrested and forced to serve out her sentence as a Petty Officer in the Jovian Armies - and under the command of the very woman whose name she slandered a decade prior.

Ballard loathes Carver with every fibre of her being, and expects Carver to return the sentiment - but the Captain is nothing what she expected her to be.

A slow-burn lesbian romance set against the backdrop of the cruel politics of the Jovian Empire.
