Tyler Perry's New Deal
Tyler Perry has signed a multi-year first look with the streaming service Netflix. Perry will direct, write, and produce for the platform. This is not the first time the film-maker has had some films with the platform. He did “A Fall From Grace”, ” Madea’s Homecoming”, and “Jazzman’s Blue’s”. If I'm not mistaken this is the first serious film from Tyler Perry, it's one that runs like a soap opera. The performances are good, and the first half of the film is decently impressive. However, the film takes a downward turn. It becomes predictable and the ending is loose as it does not tie up to the premise of the film. The main issue of the film is not resolved, and that leaves viewers very dissatisfied. There's a lot of loose ends in this film like what happened to the father of Bayou, Leanne's life after Bayou, and the town that witnessed a tragic and prejudiced murder. A Jazzman's Blues really tries hard to be a serious film, yet it lacks a gripping and sympathetic story.

Nominees for the 54th NAACP Image Awards have been unveiled.
On Thursday (January 12), the annual award show's nominations were announced, with Black: Panther Wakanda Forever leading in nods across motion picture categories and Abbott Elementary receiving the most in television and streaming, per BET.
Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar have tied for the most nominations in the music recording categories, earning five nods each.
“This year's nominees have conveyed a wide range of authentic stories and diverse experiences that have resonated with many in our community, and we're proud to recognize their outstanding achievements and performances,” said Derrick Johnson, President and CEO of the NAACP.
This year's NAACP Image Awards, which is set to air on February 25 on BET, will be the first time in three years that the show will have a live audience. Winners of the non-televised categories will be revealed February 20-24 on www.naacpimageawards.net.

Hidden Love And Abuse in A Jazzman's Blues by KC
Tumblr media
I know you guys know who Tyler Perry is. If you don’t, let me remind you or let you know who he is. Tyler Perry is an American actor, filmmaker, and playwright. He is the creator and performer of ‘Mabel “Madea” Simmons’. She plays the role of a tough elderly woman, and also plays her brother Joe Simmons and her nephew Brian Simmons.
Tyler made a lot of movies, shows, plays and so on. Every show, movie, or play communicates something about life whether it be real events that could happen or something that already happened in life. Tyler experienced some serious events in life as he suffered brutal physical abuse at the hands of his father and severe sexual abuse at the hands of several adults. His movies feature events people go through in life. For example, African Americans went through slavery which is the topic of ‘A JAZZMAN’S BLUES’.
‘A JAZZMAN'S BLUES’  shows the struggles of African Americans while being enslaved and how the white people and Black people have communication difficulties. It’s so crazy because the little girl who acts in the movie as ‘Hattie Mae’ was African American but she was lighter skinned than the other African Americans because her mom was white and her dad was African American. At that time, they weren't calling the people African Americans.... they were just saying "blacks." Hattie Mae was trying to talk to this boy, Bayou, who lived down the hill from her. She was living with her grandfather during this time while her mom was living in the city working.
Hattie Mae was so in love with Bayou and he was so in love with her but they couldn’t be together even though they were able to. Once they became older, Hattie Mae couldn’t kiss Bayou for some reason. I was just as confused as him... just wondering why. When Hattie Mae's grandfather saw that she was talking to Bayou, he lost it...but he had already lost it because he didn’t want her talking to any boy.
When he saw Hattie Mae and Bayou together, he grabbed Hattie Mae by her arm and was basically dragging her. Bayou went back into the house and they already planned to meet up the next night. Also, Bayou wanted to ask her to be his girlfriend. Later that night, when he was waiting for her, he tried to go to her house window and see where she was but once he passed the kitchen window, he saw that she was getting molested by her grandfather. Bayou started to think and was worried at the same time but then he realized,“That’s why Hattie Mae wasn’t trying to let me hug her or open up to me.”
The next day Bayou saw Hattie Mae’s mom coming to pick her up and bring her to the city so he tried to run up the hill as fast as he could to tell her mom but unfortunately it was too late. Then once he gotten up there, Hattie Mae’s grandfather told him, “Boy, you should’ve left her alone, I told her mother what you did.”
I'm not going to say a lot about the movie... you guys should watch it. It's on Netflix. Tyler Perry doesn't disappoint.

A Jazzman’s Blues (2022)
Amazon Prime Video and Netflix each put out some of these sweet little historical romances that flew under the radar last year. Though I guess “sweet” isn’t what you immediately think of about a “romance” set in the Jim Crow south. But A Jazzman’s Blues (2022) does manage to be wistfully sweet, without cloying, while... Netflixable? Tyler Perry serves up the soap as "A Jazzman's Blues"
Netflixable? Tyler Perry serves up the soap as “A Jazzman’s Blues”
Tyler Perry turns his melodramatic eye on the recent past for his latest, a jazz-and-blues in 1940s Georgia tale titled “A Jazzman’s Blues.” It’s about race relations under Jim Crow, when miscegenation was a multi-syllable word even the trashiest rednecks could pronounce, when “passing” for white had its perils and when jazz got serious about integration, at least in the cities of the north and…

Tyler Perry Sets Exclusive Deal with Prime Video
Tumblr media
Tyler Perry has set a four-movie deal with streaming giant, Amazon Prime Video according to The Hollywood Reporter. Perry will write, direct, and produce four features which will premiere exclusively on Prime Video. Prior to this deal with Amazon, Perry had been working with Netflix with his two most recent movies, the new Madea film and A Jazzman’s Blues, premiering exclusively on the streamer earlier this year. Perry praised Prime Video for “welcoming him with open arms” and expressed excitement about bringing his projects to the global audiences which Prime Video can reach. Prior to his recent deals with streaming services, Perry had a first-look features deal with Lionsgate who released his 2019 film, A Madea Family Funeral, which earned over $75 million globally.
This deal between Perry and Prime Video is not the first of its kind as more and more streaming services have begun signing exclusive deals with talent both in front and behind the camera in an effort to differentiate themselves and their content offerings. Netflix was one of the firsts to try out this model. The streamer has lucrative deals with Shonda Rhimes, Greg Berlanti, and Ryan Murphy whose recent hits Dahmer and The Watcher have proved that these deals are might just be paying off. Perhaps other streaming services will follow suit as original content proves to increase in importance.

“Halloween Ends” and other mini reviews
It’s October, and when I haven’t been watching creepy movies, I’ve been watching whatever’s on Peacock and Netflix. Newest movies are closer to the bottom:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Who would’ve thought this dumb campy movie would wind up turning into one of the biggest TV series of all time? I’d take Sarah Michelle Gellar over Kristy Swanson any day of the week.
Clown: All I can say is if you hate clowns and scary movies where kids die, do not watch this one. It’s even worse than the It movies. You’ll never look at Chuck E. Cheese the same way again.
Tenet: Well, this certainly was Christopher Nolan’s trippiest movie to date.
Dog: Channing did a great job starring and directing this movie about a war vet on a road trip with an unruly army dog. Don’t worry, nothing bad happens to the dog.
Minions: The Rise of Gru: Love or hate the Minions, this was pretty fun.
Catherine Called Birdy: I loved the book when I was younger, and this was fun to watch. They did change the ending, but it was probably for the best.
Luckiest Girl Alive: Mila Kunis gives one of the best performances of her life as a woman that seems to have it all is forced to reckon with past traumas. In case you haven’t read, there are some graphic assault scenes, so consider this your trigger warning.
A Jazzman’s Blues: Forbidden love in the Deep South between a jazz singer and a girl passing for white. Tyler Perry said this was his first screenplay, written over 25 years ago. It’s the same kind of melodrama that we see in most of his movies, but it’s worth watching for the twist ending.
School for Good and Evil: While I’ve never read the books, this was pretty fun. Good for anyone that is fan of fairy tale movies.
Halloween Ends: They really should have just left it at the first movie. Every time they try to stretch out the franchise, they fail to stick the landing. However, Laurie Strode gets a much better send-off than she did in that horrible Halloween Resurrection, so at least there’s that.
