Steve's gait was slow, steady and thoughtful as he walked the streets of Brooklyn. A new Brooklyn. The wisp of memory the only remains of his old neighbourhood.
He'd been ‘unpopsicled’ as Tony eloquently put it for two weeks and he still wandered the borough, ordering overpriced coffee that tasted of cinnamon and ash. Mentally, Steve was unprepared for the changes the twenty first century wrought. But physically, he was at his peak, not even garnering second glances from passersby. Except the appreciating kind - something new he had to contend with.
Women were just as forward as back in his day, knowing what they wanted, what to look for; only they had more freedom now. Steve had never learnt to navigate those waters, had no need to, but Bucky, Bucky would know what to do.
Sighing, Steve watched his feet eat up the pavement as his thoughts turned to his best friend, his everything, his Bucky.
Regret of never speaking his love out loud nipped at his conscience.
If only he had another chance.
Bumping into a pop up advertisement in the middle of the street was expected due to lack of attention. But what wasn't expected was looking into eyes as familiar as his own.
“Bucky,” Steve breathed, fingers reaching out to touch the glass encased man who'd haunted his dreams for seventy years.
Steve's eyes devoured the picture.
Bucky's hair was longer on top, his strong jaw artfully shadowed and lips he'd always longed to kiss were plush, pink and pouty. Steve swallowed his sudden desire.
“Gorgeous, isn't he?” A woman remarked, standing next to Steve. “Hugo Boss knew what they were doing when they hired James Barnes.”
Steve's stomach erupted in a riot of sensations. Bucky was alive. Somehow, somewhere.
Now he just had to find him.

sadly between rehearsals and bad weather I never got to visit the other islands - it was so fun but I do regret that not getting to explore further! Look, it was MCUSteve’s fault at the end of the day that he didn’t realize he had a thing for DILF’s until post CACW, if he figured it out sooner he’d have not done half the stupid shit he had pulled up until then!
That’s why he’s so done with his 2012 counterpart, he’s looking at his younger self thinking “you stupid twink you don’t even know what an embarrassment of riches you have access to right now”
(And no it’s isn’t MCUTony’s fault he didn’t come into his true DILFness until CACW, he was serving daddy by Avengers, Steve was just slow)
also 2012-15 avengers and aou era tony was still looking at all the avengers like they were the best thing to ever happen to him or otherwise having ptsd nightmares about them dying every night. this man WAS just as obsessed with steve as his other multiverse counterparts, he just also happened to think steve had no reason to like him or want to get to know him beyond work
@ mcu steve you absolute fool you could've had it all

Mike and Will both would’ve died in season one if someone didn’t save them. They both have dramatic near death experiences that are set apart from everyone else. Will needed cpr when they found him in the library, and Mike actually jumped off a cliff. Those two situations both went far enough that it would have been too late for them to save themselves. And that’s why either of them dying at the end of the story doesn’t make sense. They’ve already almost died. They were already too far over the precipice to turn back by themselves.
Maybe a conclusion to this could be the two of them learning how to live by themselves. In the monologue Mike says that, “[he] doesn’t know how to live without [El].” And while Mike’s just saying whatever he can in that moment, what if there’s truth in that statement? What if he doesn’t know how to protect himself. How to not jump off a cliff and be caught? And Will’s hated accepting help for a while now. But always has to rely on people to save him in the end. Maybe Will’s going to figure out how to protect the people around him- without putting himself in harms way.
Maybe the conclusion to this story is learning how to save yourself. To love yourself as much as everyone else does so you can protect them too. Strength doesn’t come from self sacrifice. Not in this story. Barb, Bob, Eddie- they didn’t run away. They didn’t make sure they themselves were safe. And all their deaths have caused has been pain. Being the hero gets you killed. But trying to live? Will reaching out for his mom when he’s stuck in the Upside Down? She came to find him. Whether they believed her or not. Will was alive, and she went to save him. And when El was on her own in the woods, Hopper put eggos in a box. He took her in, and kept her safe. From everyone- maybe a little too much at times- but he went to her. And he protected her.
But Nancy’s right. “They aren’t little kids anymore.” They’re not going to have someone to protect them all the time. They’re going to have to be strong enough to protect themselves. Strong enough to live. Not sacrifice themselves to save everyone else.
#byler#mike wheeler#will byers#eleven hopper#Mike and Will dying being realistic is a weird argument#because this story isn’t about being factual or a historical account of a collective experience#we already expect queer people to die in media. to be left behind. written off#and in real life we know what can happen#a story is about a discussion#fiction isn’t a factual account of our reality it’s a reflection#and in that reflection is a lot of thought about how this society works#and how people think#and what we want to say#and what we want people to see#the meaning is more important than when the second edition of D&D came out#of what song is allowed to be used because of the timeline#what it’s saying with those elements is what we’re paying attention to#because stranger things is sci-fi and historical fiction#but it’s also being made in the 21st century. so it’s commenting on the 21st century as well#killing queer characters in the 80s? that’s different because for one they’d have to have a queer character on screen#and if they’re dying like mike and Will would be dying it would’ve been revolutionary#but doing that now after the shift in queer rights and marriage rights#would be saying something entirely different#because we aren’t in the same place. it’s more important to show to a larger audience#that queer people go through terrible things AND that we can live and be happy after#and during#we’ve acknowledged the pain#and having queer characters on screen has come a long way in even the last decade#what can be said now is that queer people are in fact people and deserve happiness#not just that they shouldn’t be killing us

i know i joke a lot about me being a piece of furniture with the way i spend the whole day sitting at home doing nothing but. today i’ve literally been standing by the sink pouring water out of bottles so my family can wash their hands for so long that i feel i’m beginning to morph into a human-shaped water tap

THE 21ST CENTURY RADIO PLAY — GIVE ME AWAY (2021)
There’s no reason to pick one worthy cause over another. All we’re saying is: at least pick one. Graham had neighbors his whole life. Sometimes they helped him, sometimes he helped them. That’s what neighbors do, they help each other. We’re not saying you must help these particular neighbors, all we’re saying is help someone. Find some neighbor who’s crying out, and see what you can do.

I have more things to say about the current state of sex positivity actually which does basically boil down to “telling girls they should have tons of sex because its empowering is not better than telling girls to never have sex because it makes them sluts” like either way girls are pressured into certain actions to appease the men around them. in the case of the latter you obviously have men who think women are more valuable to them if they have never had sex. but in the former category you have (an increasingly mainstream phenomenon of) young men raised on violent and dubious porn who expect their women partners to agree to rough and dangerous sex acts with basically no discussions on safety or consent or anything. this is NOT a critique on S/M sex — frankly mainstream sex culture has a LOT to learn from BDSM culture, which is generally very good at safety and ongoing affirmative consent. but instead of learning those lessons, all that young men took from that culture was “i’m allowed to hit and choke my sex partners with no regard for their safety or desires because i’m a dom.” and then the young women having sex with them — who now think they are now behind their peers or unempowered if they aren’t having any sex, good or not — are engaging in genuinely traumatic sexual encounters for their first time and accepting that as their baseline for good (hot, consensual, safe) sex. not to mention the swaths of underage girls (children) saying stuff like “i can’t wait to turn 18 so i can start an onlyfans!” and having the general response be “she wants this so therefore it is empowering” without ANY internal critical analysis on WHY you want these things and which social forces are pushing you towards them. and suddenly the current progressive culture of hyperindividualism and utter refusal to examine the nuance of anything ever (“everyone’s feelings are valid”) is arguing that all of these trends are, in fact, good, because all of them are technically consensual. and if you talk about any of this people call you a swerf.

Currently listening to the audiobook of “Murder Must Advertise” and I’m not very far in to it (so obviously don’t know how it will turn out) and even though it’s obviously part of the wider Peter Wimsey series, it has just struck me that a murder mystery but shot as a workplace mockumentary (like the Thick of It or the Office) would probably have gone down a storm in the noughties.

in one of my dreams last night I was walking home through a crowded city. I was surrounded by people, and no one in particular really stood out for any particular reason. until I started reflecting on the dream and realized that there was ABSOLUTELY one guy dressed in Ezio's coat from Assassin's Creed II.
