Do you think Hob has any residual old-timer mannerisms or verbal quirks? I find them very charming and I think it's a fun idea, but I also sometimes find them a bit overused and unrealistic. Obviously he is a man who adapts to his time very well, and his manner of speaking is part of that, but I think there might be some archaic words or phrases that sometimes slip into his speech. What do you think?

I personally headcanon the only time that Hob slips up is if he is very tired, very drunk, or very emotional-- which includes very horny, i.e. in AITWW when his swearing sounds distinctly more medieval when he's getting it on with Dream. ("God's bones," "Bleeding Jesus" / "Crucified Christ," and my favorite, which I am happy to inform you is an actual medieval oath, "God's balls.")

The only other time he's likely to momentarily blank out is when it's almost the end of the semester, he is completely fried, and in the middle of class, he suddenly just fucking forgets the modern English word for something and repeats it three times, in Middle English, with increasing desperation, until his brain abruptly reboots and he announces the word in modern English as triumphantly as if he meant to do that all along. The good thing is since he is an academic, nobody would find that at all strange.
