I wish discord emoji makers people made aac "core" word icons and just icons for aac in general ..it would be cool to upgrade coughdrop to have cool/cute new emojis but words like "I" , "am" etc aren't really made , emotions are really..
I mean setting up the app is really overwhelming for me anyway ..option still nice ..maybe to do it little bit by little until eventually done if those emojis existed that is..

if someone talk in way that is hard understand or " word salad " , and want answer with something snarky or rude : should not , actually ! if can not think anything to say , should just not say anything .
at best , maybe engage with spam bot and get harmless laugh . but at worst , hurt actual person , who could have hard time for reasons like :
very tired
not sober
brain injury
active psychosis
active mania
AAC user ( hi ! )
cognitive disabilities in general
and more !
should just be nice . hurt very much when make sincere effort communicate , but people just point and laugh because seem loopy and broken .

Be nice and don't mock tumblr users that communicate differently.
Examples:
1.) Typing quirks
2.) No punctuation
3.) Random Capitalisation
4.) Long run on sentences
5.) Frequently misspelled words
6.) Missing spaces between words
7.) Repeating words and sentences
8.) Posts audios and videos instead of typing
9.) Express themselves through custom emojis
10.) Use an AAC (Augmentative and alternative communication) device
Some users have intellectual disabilities, use speech to text, struggle with grammar, have hand tremmers, have high support needs, etc.
Regardless of how they communicate and their reason why, they still deserve respect. They are trying their best.

The idea that aac fixes everything for everyone is kinda annoying. Because most nonverbal nonspeaking semiverbal people’s speech problems root further from just verbal voice.
Not understanding have right communicate. Not understanding how work. Not understanding how to say what feel or want or think. Not understanding certain words or phrases so say one thing and mean another. Many have speech or communication disorders, it’s not just the inability to speak, aac won’t fix everything for everyone.
Even if some get aac, an option to communicate, they just can’t. Sometimes no matter how much want to, just can’t.

Actually like. You can be super nice to disabled people and respect us and all that but the moment you talk about us instead of to us (when you havent been informed that it's what the person prefers) it really devalues all that prior positive interaction.
Like. I was visiting someone with my mother / caregiver today and the whole time she was really nice & would address me directly (like: this is x room, sure you can go on the balcony, oh you really did that? etc) but suddenly when I was pacing & stimming w my hands & just looking around she suddenly turned to my mother and went (paraphrased & translated) : "oh you can see theres lots of information bouncing around his brain right now haha" ??? Girl I'm right here? I can hear you? Why are you talking about me like I'm not? You literally could have said the same thing addressed to me. Then I can actually feel involved instead of like being an animal on display or something.

Pixie think accidentally deleted a question from ?? @blackcrowgrey maybe ? , was ask was about what is like to be using AAC device .
is so freeing ! so exciting , so many new possibilities . with AAC device so much more is becomes possible to do to go to . to try be come part of community .
is some of the same feels, finally getting good communication helps , as like when hospital finally got Pixie wheelchair to use while can not walk .
is lots of . happy . frustrating . overwhelming .
speech therapist said Pixie will need year or more to program the AAC device to fit Pixies needs and to teach Pixie and new family and friends how learn use AAC device . also probably to push Pixie to actually communicate with people not on Internet … is some is same as learn new language , take long time to learn it become fluently .
but . is also very fun ! Pixie like push the button for guinea pigs keep pushing button make AAC device repeat guinea pigs guinea pigs guinea pigs guinea pigs …
communicate still very very slower than speaking people conversations . it much much better than have no AAC . but also, it NOT a magic fix . is not at all just a “can not speak” problem that get fixed when be give AAC device . it much bigger more pervasive , affect all parts of communication , learning , school , making and keeping friends, working ability, socializing, and more .
and . this maybe feel like silly stupid little thing but ... ALL AAC devices , not mounted on wheelchair , must have shoulder strap or like thing to carry comfortable because . a good AAC device become part of Pixies body, is literally Pixies voice . need access to pixies voice all the time , just like speaking people do .
hope this help . please to feel free to ask more questions . Pixie just slow but happy to answer kindly questions . also make speech therapist very happy for Pixie try practice with AAC device get better :)

Kiku has a few other communication boards that are scattered through the house and Kiku didn't remember to get them and Kiku also has a picture card binder, a visual schedule, and 1 tactile symbol (want to have a whole collection one day). There might also be some other things that Kiku can't think of right now.

hi! im cyrus, i am an autistic 18 year old, and i experience selective mutism.
in the recent months, i have been doing research into AAC to make communication easier during college, but I've found that AAC tools are.... really fucking expensive. It angers me that these apps cost hundreds of dollars. So, ive decided to code my own.
I come across a problem with this, though. I dont know how to code. but i remembered an online coding program from elementary school: scratch, which is available to anyone with a computer or phone.
So, if i may ask, can the AAC user side of tumblr help me make this a reality? I plan to make this based on button pressing, so what kind of words should i include? Im relatively new to AAC so any help is appreciated !!!

You do not have the right to touch someone's disability aid without asking, whether that aid be a wheelchair or an AAC device.
"It's just a tablet, though." No, it is not. It is my voice. Touching or moving my device without my permission is like touching my mouth without permission, it's weird, gross, invasive, and rude. Stop.
Pushing someone's wheelchair without permission is like picking them up and moving them out of the way eithout permission, its weird, invasive, gross, and weird. Stop.
