It’s once in a lifetime experience, a never forgettable one, and stays with the being life long! This is how is Gandhinagar Cultural Forum’s #MahaAarti on ‘#Aatham’, the Eighth Day, of the #Navaratri celebrated. Everyone gathered here, more than 30,000 people, takes lighted lamp in hand and does Aarti, viz., prayers with lighter lamp. Light symbolises #energy and so many multitude of people pray Mother Amba with lamp of one’s own! What is important is that all the electric lights are switched off and the entire premises is light up with 30,000 lamps. With purity in soul, prayer at the lips, holy chant in mouth and lighted lamp in hands, it is no wonder that the one elevates from an ordinary being to an extraordinary one. People often feel the presence of the higher being right on the ground. This year, the Forum prepared formation of #MahatmaGandhi to commemorate 150th birth anniversary. The formation simply looks divine from sky-image. Often tears are the only reaction at such event. Shri #VajubhaiVala, the #Governor of #Karnataka and Guru Ma of #Samdarshan Ashram, #Gandhinagar witnessed the occasion apart from people from all around the world. Navratri at Gandhinagar Cultual Forum is one of the best known in the state. People from world around flock here to celebrate this occasion. The atmosphere is purely traditional accompanied by melodious singing and graceful dance. The whole atmosphere was illuminated with more than 30,000 lamps and reverberated with prayers. This occasion was designed specially as Forum is celebrating its 25th year of establishment. Interestingly all the present are distributed Maha Prasad, Great Offering, at the end of Maha Aarti. This Prasad is prepared by Shri Yusuf Mansuri, a Muslim businessman since last 25 years. This is an excellent example of communal harmony and proof that prayer is not limited to anyone specific. It’s worthwhile experiencing this event. At the end of it, all the gathering saluted the nation while singing the #NationAnthem in unison and in respectful discipline. This is how Gandhinagar #CulturalForum celebrated Bhakti of three aspects, viz. God, #Mahatma and the #Nation. #gandhi150 #2k19 #CapitalPlus (at Gandhinagar Cultural Forum) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3TdATSBAwA/?igshid=aa8mhqjak26b

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krishna_JanmashtamiLearnt a new concept of 3 types of Ratri in Hinduism: Maha Ratri, Moh Ratri and Kal Ratri.  The Maha Ratri is Maha Shivratri, which was observed yesterday in honor of Lord Shiva and symbolizes “overcoming darkness and ignorance”. It is observed by being awake for late night and do self-study, have self-discipline by chanting Lord Shiva’s name, perform abhishek, perform yoga and do fasting. The Moh Ratri is celebrated on Lord Krishna’s birth in Shravan month (August) known as Krishnashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti or sometimes simply as Janmashtami, is an annual celebration of the birth of the Hindu deity Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu! While the Kal Ratri is celebrated on Kali Chaudas  known as Kali Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, Choti Diwali or Naraka Nivaran Chaturdashi) is a Hindu festival. It is the second day of the five-day-long festival of Diwali. Please refer to link below fro more details. With that information, i would take a leave. Be Kind, Humble, Compassionate, enjoy these Ratri, do self-study, have self-discipline, do yoga, control your senses, do fasting and be blessed! - With love, Krish

Welcoming the Beloved Lord of Vrindavan with joy & splendour : Nandalal celebrates his Birthday !
Tumblr media
Krishna Janmashtami (August 14, 2017 Monday) / Janmashtami /Gokula Ashtami is a festive ceremony performed across India to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu's eight incarnations, Lord Krishna. It marks the 5244th birth anniversary of the Lord. August-September (Shravana month) is the time when Janmashtami is celebrated. It is marked on the 8th day (ashta in Sanskrit meaning eight) of the Krishna Paksha of the Shravan month. ‘Krishna’ means one who attracts. Hindus consider him to be their leader, protector, philosopher, teacher and friend. The festival is known by several other names such as Saatam Aatham, Sri Krishna Jayanti, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Shree Jayanti and Krishnashtami.
Ashtami Tithi Begins = 19:45 on 14/Aug/2017 Ashtami Tithi Ends = 17:39 on 15/Aug/2017
Krishna Janmashtami is an important festival which is celebrated with great fervour. It is an important day for all Hindus and especially for Krishna devotees as well. According to mythology, Krishna was c onsidered a playful and naughty character but at the same time he was very lovable as well.
THE RITUAL OF DAHI HANDI :
Tumblr media
As a child Sri Krishna was very naughty and he was very fond of butter. In states like Maharashtra people enact incidents from Krishna’s childhood by placing an earthen pot high above the ground and then forming a human pyramid to try and break it. Many youngsters participate in this activity with great enthusiasm. This ritual of breaking the pot is known as Dahi-Handi.
Tumblr media
Dahi handi is celebrated a day after the birth of Lord Krishna.  Dahi Handi is a clay pot with curd, butter, and money.According to Hindu mythology, Krishna and his friends used to form human pyramids to break pots hung from the ceilings of neighbourhood houses, in order to steal curd and butter in Vrindavan, a village in Uttar Pradesh. On this day, youngsters, called govindas, attempt to break the dahi handi by forming a human pyramids . In Gujarat state and Dwarka city , dahi handi is called Makhan Handi – an earthen pot filled with yogurt, ghee, almonds and nuts. It is called Uriadi in Tamil Nadu state and  in the all the southern states  of India it is famously reffered to as the “ UTTI CELEBRATIONS”.

Janmashtami Celebrations In Dwarka ~
Tumblr media
Dwarka which is the place where Krishna was born celebrates this festival in a big way. There are hordes of visitors who flock this city to witness and take part in the celebrations. The city is decorated and the people sing Bhajans praising Lord Krishna. People light up their homes and celebrate Krishna’s birth in a grand manner. Women prepare special food items and make offerings to the Gods also. Sri Krishna was particularly fond of butter and milk items and so women prepare sweet dishes made using milk and Ghee. Many people observe a fast also on this day.
Janmashtami Celebrations In Vrindavan ~
Tumblr media
In places like Vrindavan, plays are organised wherein people enact scenes and events from Krishna’s childhood days and adult life as well. This is known as Rasleela. Nowadays in modern times, Rasleela is performed by professional troupes. They perform it with utmost devotion and sincerity and keep the tradition alive. Various important events of Krishna’s life are enacted and people enjoy watching it.
Tumblr media
The Rasleela of Vrindavan is famous. Vrindavan was Krishna’s birthplace and he spent his early childhood years here. It is said that later on around the age of twenty eight, Sri Krishna moved to Dwarka where he spent a majority of his life. He also spent some years in Mathura. These three places Vrindavan,Mathura and Dwarka are important places of significance for Krishna devotees. In these places, Janmasthami is celebrated with great gusto and fervour. Krishna Janmashtami is also celebrated in other countries besides India by ardent Krishna followers. Indians who are living abroad also celebrate this festival with great excitement and interest.
THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF LORD KRISHNA’S BIRTH :
Tumblr media
Devaki (Lord Krishna’s mother) represents the physical body, while Vasudeva (Lord Krishna’s father) represents the Prana (the vital life-force). So when the Prana flows through the body, then Ananda (bliss, represented by Lord Krishna) is born. But at that time, the ego (represented by Kamsa, Lord Krishna’s maternal uncle and an evil King) wants to destroy the bliss. Where there is joy, there cannot be ego.  Lord Krishna is the symbol of love and joy. Love, happiness and naturalness are the greatest enemies of the ego. And what does Lord Krishna represent? He is the symbol of happiness, joy and being natural. He is the very source of bliss. This is why there is a war between ego and love, because ego melts and disappears when love dawns within. Kamsa represents the ego, and ego is born along with the birth of the body. Devaki (the body) is Kamsa’s sister.
When Lord Krishna was born in the prison cell, all the prison guards fell asleep. When there is no happiness and joy (Lord Krishna), the body feels like a prison. So when love (Lord Krishna) was born in this prison (body), all the senses (symbolized by the prison guards) fell asleep. The five senses – the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin – are the guards of the body, and they always look outwards for joy. They are actually the guards of Kamsa (ego). So they fall asleep when one turns inwards towards the source of joy, the bliss that is born within (Lord Krishna). Now after being born, Lord Krishna had to be taken to another place for the sake of protection and safety (from Kamsa). So Lord Krishna went to Vrindavana after being born, to the house of Nanda and Devi Yashoda. So when you look deeper into these stories, you will be able to understand their greater spiritual meanings and values.
(Excerpts from the talks of sri sri ravi shankarji )
