might be one of the pettiest possible complaints about Shadow of the Erdtree, but I hate this thing they do where weapons dual-wield instead of two-handing.

I don't like dual-weapons being treated as one weapon, DaS3 had my least favourite dual-wielding system of any Souls including DaS1 and Elden Ring already had a perfectly good dual-wielding system. I get that some of them are like that bc the weapon art requires two weapons but like. Reverse-grip swords did not have to be like this.

My covid post from last year is going around again, as I sit here debating how and what to write about HPAI H5N1.

I'm tired.

Things to know:

HPAI H5N1, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1, is so far wildly lethal when humans get it. Somewhere between 53% and 56% of the humans who have been found to have it have died.

Those people mainly got it from interacting with sick birds. A couple have gotten it from interacting with sick mammals. The one of those that's most important to US news right now is a worker at a milk cow farm who got sick very recently. That worker's only symptom before getting on antiviral medication was pinkeye.

(Keep your cats indoors; cats are getting it from sick birds. Don't have bird feeders this year. Do NOT interact with wild birds that are acting strangely; do not poke at dead wild birds.)

Humans are not yet giving it to humans. There are one or two cases where they might have done, in the last few years; those cases guttered out quickly, to the great good luck of our species, and did not spread.

Human-to-human transmission is the big concern.

We are not in any immediate danger of H2H transmission. When we're in immediate danger, you'll know.

When the flip happens, we will go from not being in immediate danger to being in immediate danger, very rapidly. This could happen this month, or in five months, or in five years, and we don't know when.

By the time we are in immediate danger, it is too late to do the greater bulk of your preparation.

So it's time to prepare now. This time we have is a blessing. We should not squander it. What would you have done differently in September, 2019, if you knew what was coming? Do that.

With some differences; a) flu can pass by fomite--that is, a sick person touches a doorknob, you touch a doorknob, you rub your face, you get sick--so you actually do need cleaning chemicals for this one. b) This one gets in through the eyeballs pretty easily in its current shape, so eye protection should be prepped for adding to masking in public spaces. c) this one is gonna call for fever reducers and we know how hard they were to get when covid hit; stock up. And stock up on pet food if you can keep it from going bad, because pet food gets its protein from cow and bird meat; there will be shortages.

With a lot of similarities; the flu is airborne so don't stop masking, if we have a proper lockdown this time you're going to wish you had flour and rice and canned fruit so keep stock of all your staples. If you have a nice big freezer, now is the time to get beef and chicken before the prices shoot to the ceiling. I'm also stocking up on powdered milk and powdered eggs for baking with.

We have made a lot, a LOT of mistakes with how we've handled covid. But one thing we didn't do wrong was all of the community-building in the early days. Think about what worked then, and what didn't really work. Now is the time to make sure community bonds are strong. As always, as in ANY potential disaster, there are two most-important questions?

And when I say it's not just talent but also that Charles is simply smarter than Lando on the track (and off it), is that too mean? Like, I really don't see any thoughts going through Lando's head during overtake attempts (because they are just that - attempts, that almost never come to fruition), whereas we have some beautiful w2w/h2h action from Charles, especially with Max, even that famous commentary "Charles Leclerc once again proves that hanging back is better" when he overtook a corner later than expected, or the whole Vegas 2023 race leader switching but especially that last lap oooo beautiful stuff. So yeah, I don't really see that sort of planning going through Lando's head like at all.

I saw someone say today that Lando's attempts at an overtake were desperate, just trying to divebomb again and again in order to try and make something stick and hoping that the virtue of having the fastest car underneath him gives him the edge.

Charles is definitely an extremely talented driver because he's more often than not smart with his overtakes and attempts. He knows he only gets a couple of goes to preserve tyres, he watches his opponents for weaknesses and then strikes when they repeat it, he knows he has to close all doors to make it stick and has to anticipate how his opponents might react. Him talking about that Checo last lap overtake in Vegas was jaw-dropping, especially since no one expected him to actually be able to do it considering the rocketship the RB-19 was. Hearing how he was planning how he was going to do it for laps beforehand, noticing Checo's weakness and then choosing the last lap because he knew he wasn't going to make that stick for longer with the RB-19 behind.....well I very often think of Seb saying that Charles is the most talented racing driver he's ever met, of many of Charles' colleagues describing him as very analytical. Charles is a good racing driver because he's smart and he's patient, he knows when to wait in order to gain the most advantage.

unpopular opinion but I don’t want a sincaraz uso final and I have my reasons! because here’s how the sequence of sincaraz slam matches have been:

It's honestly so impressive atp how sincaraz function as one entity.....like they beat djokovic what was it like the same amount of days since something (I forgot it's that 2000 something number yall know what I'm talking about), they have a tied h2h that just refuses to stay un-tied for long, and now as one of them loses the other withdraws (also a theme with them, they always seem to lose either to each other or in the same round*)

it's 2023! this will be your year, surely. you kick it off by winning your first 500. the sunshine double doesn't go great but you do brilliantly at queen's club and los cabos, only losing in the finals to top 10 players. then.... Canada.

you beat fritz. you beat medvedev. you make it to the final of a 1000 for the first time! and then jannik sinner is there in all his ginger glory, and, well. you know how this is going to go. bye-bye first 1000 title, hello increasingly miserable h2h. you start wondering if you're going to be there for all of this guy's career-defining wins. you start wondering why the hell it had to be you specifically. this is getting ridiculous. because now it's 2024 and he won the whole entire australian open and then to really seal in the whole thing he had to go and beat you, specifically in rotterdam to make some more history.

and like, you guys are friends. pretty good friends, actually. you played doubles once and it was hilarious!! but also, consistent and absolute annihilation??? seriously???

in summary i find their friendship absolutely mindbending. alex de minaur you must be the nicest person ever because personally if someone did me like this i would spend my entire life trying to blow them up with my mind

when even MAX is saying he genuinely thinks Lando is in contention for WDC maybe, idk, LISTEN?!

Lando's only 76 points behind and while yes if Max doesn't score in any races for the rest of the year it is still mathematically anyone's game, the likelihood of that happening is fucking slim

yes Oscar still could, technically, but again the person with the best chance of outscoring Max by enough points each week is Lando, especially when you look at how consistently he's driven and how many points McLaren have lost him due to strategy blunders. he's P2, has the second most podiums this season as well (Max has 9, Lando has 8, the Ferraris have 5 each) and is ahead on both quali and race h2h

much as it sucks, as McLaren so lovingly 🙄 pointed out, there'll be many more opportunities, maybe they should take the chance they have right now with Lando and capitalise on whatever the fuck is wrong with Red Bull, Ferrari's seeming plateauing and Merc's still playing catch up from the start of the season

If this makes anyone else feel better: Charles is disappointed with P2, of course he is. But importantly - he's P2 to Carlos. Which yes, sucks. But we know Charles has the pace and skill to beat Carlos over the course of a season, and they drive the same car. He may have lost this one, but it shows the Ferrari might be good enough to take on the Red Bull's. And so over a season, Charles might have a chance.

If he was constantly P2 to Max it would show that Ferrari don't have the car to fight Red Bull, which almost guarantees Charles wouldn't be able to challenge for the WDC.

But this gives me a little more hope.

Oscar and lando fans both, need to get a grip. WERE FANS OF A SPORT. why, oh why, do we need to make everything a "oh he is so bad!" "He needs to be better" "they suck!"

Someone on discord told me i dislike oscar, that i think he sucks. That i think he purposefully crashed into lando. When i never said such a thing. I love oscar, i wanted him to win fair and square. It was supposed to be a safe space but it is no more, and thats all because a toxic fan cannot seperate us watching a tv, and us all fighting as fans

Both lando and oscar are amazing. Lando is ahead in the h2h, he has a chance at the drivers title. That doesnt mean all eggs should be in his basket. Oscar is great, we know he is, but like lando he is not perfect and he makes plenty of mistakes, even ones that cost him a win.

Oscar made a move, he was allowed to, he pulled it off. The problem? they touched. Charles passed because of it, charles won in the end. Oscar cannot predict that. He is driving freaking 300 km/h.

You win some you lose some. Today charles won cause he was just better.

Anti-oscar fans, he didnt hit lando on purpose. Its an incident and yeah he has fought lando multiple times, but that doesnt mean he can not be a teamplayer. "He should have let lando passed" if mclaren had not discussed this, no he was allowed to fight, again he touched accidentally not on purpose.

This was a mclaren fumble. They fucked it, they will talk about it and move on. If they miss a championship thats on them, the millions of dollars they will miss is on them.

TLDR: Stop fighting. You are not helping oscar or lando, they do not know you exvist, they dont care if you defend them or not. The only thing you are doing is making people feel bad. And if that makes you happy? You need help, please seek it. The sport should be fun, dont let it be ruined by others💕
