Ona quietly walked out one evening as they ate dinner. She died a fugitive in poverty for refusing a life of unpaid labor as human property of the very first First Family of the United States. Since absconding from Texas to New York City in early 2003, Dragonfly aka Robin LaVerne Wilson has lived many lifetimes as an artist-activist. In this talk she will survey: how 20 foundational years in San Antonio shaped her worldview; highlights of her character work and eclectic career (including a few arrests and an accidental run for senator of New York state); and culmination of these influences into her current work. She will conclude with highlights of ABSCONDED PROJECT--a hybrid living statue / moving monument / public ritual to honor Ona Judge who self-emancipated herself from Martha and George Washington. ---------- LINK IN INSTAGRAM BIO ---------- My ties to San Antonio span from 1983-2003.
