My MFU episode recs

Since everyone else is doing this; as others have said, most episodes are worth seeing, but here are my absolute faves--

The Shark Affair -- probably my favorite episode of all time, Napoleon and Illya are on two separate missions that converge and pit them against a modern-day pirate.

The Project Strigas Affair -- you'll be playing the "Hey, it's that guy!" game all though this ep. Also Illya is in a ridiculous disguise and Napoleon still finds time to flirt with him.

The Fiddlesticks Affair -- SO. MUCH. DRAMA.

The Mad, Mad Tea Party Affair -- so much insanity, plus that lovely shot of Napoleon and Illya in the elevator shaft with their suitjackets off (one of my more notable "I may be ace, but dang" moments).

The Secret Sceptre Affair -- the clips that @justabigoldnerd has been posting should tell you all you need to know about this ep.

The Never-Never Affair -- what do you get when you take Napoleon and Illya and add in Agent 99, the Joker, and Mr. Slate from The Flintstones? This ep.

The Love Affair -- Eddie Albert plays a convincing villain and invokes Napoleon's wrath when it appears he's killed Illya. Also Madame Leota/Maleficent (Eleanor Audley) has a cameo

The Gazebo in the Maze Affair -- Napoleon embarks on a quest save his beloved Illya from a vengeful squire... with mixed results, but that's why we love this show.

Alexander the Greater Affair 1&2 -- there's a lot going on here, but that's what makes it great

The Foxes and Hounds Affair -- Robert Vaughn, David McCallum, AND Vincent Price all in the same room together--need I say more?

The Virtue Affair -- more mutual lifesaving with a ton of drama

The Bat Cave Affair -- ...there's a lot going on here, just watch it 😆

The Pop Art Affair -- modern art and killer foam

The Off-Broadway Affair -- yet another "Hey, it's that guy/gal!" episode, ft Lamb Chop, Scrappy-Doo, and General Burkhalter all in the same room with Napoleon and Illya. Also the closest MFU gets to a musical episode. ALSO more mutual lifesaving and, somehow, Napoleon and Illya still find time to have a date in a Turkish bath.

The Suburbia Affair -- very little I can add to what others have said about this ep, other than this: I am convinced that the overdubbed "Mother" at Illya that Robert Vaughn was forced to do was covering up a "Dear" that the censors refused to let air. In my heart, it was "Dear." Kudos to Robert for making it so obvious it was an overdub; it's like he knew what the fans wanted.

The Matterhorn Affair -- Yes, it's mostly ridiculous, but Napoleon and Illya's ice-cream date at the end makes it worth it

The Hot Number Affair -- we get this, enough said:

The Summit-Five Affair -- ANGST and a beautiful showcasing of Illya's undying loyalty to Napoleon.

The 'J' for Judas Affair -- this is an interesting one, a sort of look into what happens when the duo initially fails a mission and then have to pick up the pieces.

The Prince of Darkness Affair 1 & 2 -- ft. a new evil organization, Napoleon in disguise, and Illya finding Napoleon's disguise more attractive than he expected

The Deadly Quest Affair -- more undying loyalty!

The Gurnius Affair -- there's A LOT going on here

The Maze Affair -- More angst! More devotion!

The Deep Six Affair -- You gotta watch it for the ending. You gotta.

TOURNAMENT PARTICIPANTS

Greetings, everyone, our contestants have been finalized, and I want to provide a certain opportunity before the preliminaries begin. Namely, to provide additional propaganda for competitors in need of it. So, I have created a form to collect this new propaganda, and a list of both preliminary and non-preliminary participants under the cut. An asterisk next to a name indicates they have fewer than three pieces of propaganda, which is the amount that will be included in each poll. This form will be open for the duration of the tournament. You can make as many submissions you want for any character.

NOTE: The order of participants does not reflect the bracket matchups. Preliminary matchups will be announced next week, and the complete bracket will be announced after the preliminary round is finished.

Emiya Tarot- Deck of Swords

Base Collection

This deck is exemplary of Emiya's journey in many routes. Here's a generic explanation for every card, that has loose ties to the show itself. The explanations are below and they come with spoilers:

Ace of Swords- Usually signifies a direct breakthrough through difficult circumstances. Emiya's projection of swords was a creative endeavor that changed the entire game.

Two of Swords- Tends to signify being trapped between two or more paths. In UBW, he can either follow the same path of his elder self; or rewrite it anew. Emiya is often stuck between many paths and options. Usually the person is blindfolded in this tarot, but I feel like this scene is a time of Emiya having the blindfold ripped off.

Three of Swords- Signifies heartbreak and loss. Gilgamesh's harm of Illya is definitely a time of this, a time where Emiya faces near impossible odds in the face of Gilgamesh, a very morally gray and unpredictable force that turns everything upside down!

Four of Swords- Signifies a time of necessary rest after much turmoil and hardship. Like the hilarious 'dolphin' scene in Rin's room, as well as when she temporarily passes on her crests to Shirou, for the sake of the final battle.

Five of Swords- Signifies a victory that came in the face of many losses and hardship. Though the war is over, there is more to come- and the price paid was huge.

Six of Swords (XD)- Signifies moving to better seas, leaving a painful past behind; even if you are taking many traumas and baggage with you, it is still a much better position to be in than before. I feel like these three did their very best to make the utmost out of a pretty unfortunate twist to a holy grail war. lol i only drew 5

Seven of Swords- Signifies deceit, betrayal and sneaking beneath one's gaze. Archer is exemplary of this with his extreme pragmatism in UBW, slowly slinking from serving Rin to doing all in his power to kill 'himself' basically. His lies regarding his lack of memory and sudden turncoat against Rin, for goals that were wildly different to what was expected of him as a servant- makes him the perfect 7 of swords!

Eight of Swords- Signifies that although one is trapped, if they pry deeper into the situation, there is a clear way out of it. Even the bindings trapping one in the eight of swords are loosely there, and the swords do not block their way. This can signify Emiya overcoming his hurdles, turning his barriers into his greatest strength by the end of the show.

Nine of Swords- Signifies extreme worry, fear and doubt. Emiya likely had quite a few of them...

Ten of Swords- Signifies the end, absolute and utter defeat at the hands of external forces. Yet, the sun still begins to rise, light making its way through the darkness for a brighter future. In this sense, Emiya had his ass handed to him many times in UBW; but he survived in the end. This card symbolises renewal after defeat, that even once a situation becomes hopeless, a new day will begin.

7. Jenson Button x Fernando Alonso [Ship Name: Buttonso / Jensonando]

Fandom: Formula 1 RPF

Reasons: Because why not? They have the chemistry, they have the potential, they have their own thing going on every now and then- give me a good reason to not ship these dorks.

6. Napoleon Solo x Illya Kuryakin [ Ship Name: Napollya / Illeon]

Fandom: The Man From U.N.C.L.E. [movie 2015]

Reason: Pure Grumpy x Sunshine trope. Illya is shot tempered and keeps himself isolated most of the time, but Napoleon knows how to get under his skin (👀) and adores his Red Peril to death. I mean, he literally jumped in those deep waters to save his life- what more prrpf do you need?

5. Charles Leclerc x Max Verstappen [ Ship Name: Lestappen/Verleclerc ]

Fandom: Formula 1 RPF

Reason: Seriously? You need a reason? Aren't those subtle touches on Charles' lower back after the podiums, or even when they're close to each other, not enough? Isn't that habit of Max not being able to stand in one place after seeing his favorite Ferrari boy enough? Isn't their inability to not mention each other once in every interview ever enough? They're the definition of "Love is blind"

4. Mika Häkkinen x Michael Schumacher [Ship Name: Makkinen/ Mikael]

Fandom: Formula 1 RPF

Reasons: The classic Finn x German trope. They say they're not friends yet can't seem to leave each other alone. They basically defined each other's lives in the sport and outside of it by staying side by side in every battle. A win wouldn't feel like a win to any of them if not snatched by the other one.

3. Carlos Sainz Jr x Lando Norris [ Ship Name: Carlando / Muppet Friends ]

Fandom: Formula 1 RPF

Reasons: THEY'RE MY COMFORT SHIP!!!! They take care of each other, mention each other everywhere, go on golf dates (and dates) with each other, spend time with each other on family weddings/holidays and even after it's been three years since Carlos switched teams, their bond keeps on getting deeper and deeper. And these two were the ones people initially thought would not get along. They proved everyone wrong, and still are. I personally believe both of them progressed a lot as a personality after meeting each other. Specially in Lando's case- He's a big brother to Oscar now. Carlando for life!

2. Nico Rosberg x Lewis Hamilton [ Ship Name: Brocedes / Rosmilton ]

Fandom: Formula 1 RPF

Reasons: REASONS??? FOR WHAT EXACTLY??? Both of them come from two totally different worlds and background - one with everything and one with almost nothing. Nico grew up in a lavish lifestyle but he established that friendship doesn't care about your background. It's just friendship. And he had his fair share with Lewis, a little boy from the UK who found a friend in a place and time he least expected to be. They went on vacations together, raced each other as teammates - both in karting and F1, which was a dream they both promised each other of when they were practically babies. But the same dream tore them apart later in life and they're so close and yet so far. And the fact that it's not fictional is just tragic.

i appreciate the time you put into this but if youre going to make a note that youre using older ushi you should be vetting character ages better, youve got mordred who says hes 16 during camelot and gareth whos his younger sister, the nobu whos in their early teens (changed to older teens in NA profiles but it still says early in JP and koha-ace), marie who says shes 14 in orleans...i hope this doesnt come off as weird im just concerned about the one note and dont know if you just dont know about the rest? or if i should just steer clear. and thought i should say something while round 1 is going on and its fixable...

I was going to make a post prior to the tournament but no one really reads my announcement posts especially once a poll round starts lol but this is a submission based poll from other tumblr users and my only rule was no children like Jack, prisma illya stuff, lily units, visual designs that are elementary, etc. I'm not denying there are other teenage submissions in this tourney, I'm very much aware.

Ushi has multiple different looking art for different looking ages (summer, avenger) and not every servant like Mordred has an official older looking self. If I can, I also wanted to have characters shown at their most well known design which is why I have 17 year old Rin, Shirou, etc for clarity sake for people not super familiar with the nasuverse so even they can be like "oh yeah that character I remember seeing them before". Mash and Guda are considered forever minors no matter how much time passes lol. Marie in fgo makes quite of few statements about her kids as a loving mom. Lasagna deciding to give her a 14 year old body was literally out of our control but I'm going to simply disregard Lasagna age canon and view her as the adult she died as and not be weird about it, please understand. For Ushi, it wasn't my intention to be weird about her. I winged it and made the conscious decision to have her as an adult since she does have so many different and good sprites and official art. I have a transparent Rider Ushi in her background for clarity for those that only do know her as Rider.

I run this blog with the assumption we're all responsible adults here and we're not going to be weird about fictional characters to the same severity that we treat irl people. Fate, Tsukihime, etc are porn works, there's nothing wrong with that clearly, but serious and non-serious sexual acts with characters under 18 do happen and some of the characters submitted in this tourney are under 18 but I'm choosing not to be weird or a creepy about it so please don't think I have sus intentions with this tourney. This is a silly tourney theme that was selected and voted for. I'm just hosting it to the best of my ability while being respectful and fair as I can (sorry avicebron for the queen medb matchup, literally somebody had to go against her ;n;).

A SNAKE IN THE REEDS. || 141 AC ||

Nearly a year after the beginnings of his reign, a plot against King Casimir Tully of The Riverlands has been discovered mere days after arriving in Highgarden for the wedding of King Cedric Tyrell and Lady Illya Oakheart. 

WHAT HAPPENED?

In one of Casimir Tully’s first official acts as King of The Trident (nearly a year ago,) the agreement that promised free trade between The Riverlands and Lys, as well as the promise of aid via slave soldiers intended for use in Grover Tully’s army during The Dance, was formally ended. This alliance was sealed with the marriage of Grand Magister Lysaro Rogare and his daughter, Emilee Tully. This returned Lys to the normal standards of taxation on all trade between The Riverlands.

While ending this alliance, Emilee’s son, Salladhor, was removed from the line of the Riverlands Succession, as he stands to inherit a great deal due to his position in Lys. Casimir also announced his intentions to legitimize his sister’s son, Lucian Rivers, and name him heir until he has children of his own. This was to honor his brother, the late King Cian Tully. 

And it all seemed well enough — until nearly a year later, when Princess Iona Tully was removed as Ambassador of The Riverlands, and Casimir made it known he planned to find a replacement for his eldest sister as Hand. 

While The Riverlands and their various lords and households readied for the journey to The Reach, despite being seen entering one of the carriages, Emilee and her son were not among the travel party several days later, seemingly in thin air. Her absence was noted by King Casimir himself, and when he sent a servant asking about her whereabouts, she was quickly reported missing as they made to meet the Rose Road near Tumbleton. 

Several small battalions were sent out to search for the missing princess and her son along the travel route. Several days later, Ser Altair Vance, sent by the king to see his sister to safety, found the princess and several of her Lysene household in a small vessel sailing down the Blackwater Rush. When asked to return to the group — now days ahead — she refused, stating that she was a Princess of the Riverlands and Hand of the King. She would not be ordered around by her own brother’s soldiers. The soldiers report that she was in hysterics, and seemed to imply that Casimir had sent her separately from the party for a task that must stay between herself and him. 

The soldiers insisted on behalf of their king, and somewhere in the arguing, the princess became hysterical as the men tried to load her belongings back onto carriages. One chest in particular seemed to cause her more distress than the others, and as a soldier lifted it, she attempted to pull it away from him. The chest fell, breaking open, and soon all was revealed.

WHAT WAS FOUND?

Documents, letters, and raven scrolls were discovered, sent between Princess Emilee and Regent to the Grand Magister Syrelos Rogare — her good-brother.  They show that the two were plotting together to oust Casimir and install Emilee on her younger brother’s throne.  

Though their father, Grover Tully, married her to the Grand Magister of Lys against her wishes, it has been uncovered that the princess began planting the seeds for Grover’s eventual usurpation as her revenge for the unwanted match. 

Princess Emilee had been influencing her father long before Casimir was passed over as heir, convincing him that he would never make a good king. Though, despite this information, Grover Tully’s assassination was not her doing. Instead, it merely helped push her plans along. After Grover’s death, Emilee was named Cian’s Hand, which gave her even more influence. 

Grover’s assaination was not her doing, though only helped her plans along, as Cian was chosen over Casimir and she was appointed his hand. 

With Casimir departing quickly after, the perfect window was open, and soon plans were quickly laid. Both brothers would go tragically missing, leaving her The Riverlands.. 

Cian’s disappearance went accordingly. Though it is still unknown if the late King Cian is dead, it is assumed. 

During the six months that Casimir was in Essos, Casimir was meant to go missing as well.. Instead, he unexpectedly joined the Second Sons. It is because of this that the news of Cian’s disappearance reached Casimir quicker than she expected, before the Lynsene could hold up their end of the bargain and assassinate the young prince. Casimir was able to return home and take his crown rather than Emilee taking it for herself as she had hoped.

A letter was found, kept hidden by Emille, addressed to Casimir from Cian himself.

With Casimir now King and her own son removed from the line of succession, Emilee began asking (fervently, and more plainly when compared to her other letters) Syrelos to “see to my nephew, Lucian.” It has been included that Emilee intended to dispose of Lucian as she had Cian. 

It is unknown if Emilee  is responsible for the death of her husband, but it is a current theory, given that she was conveniently back in The Riverlands prior to Cian’s legitimization. Though it is only implied and never said outright in the letters, it is also possible her husband’s brother is responsible. 

After learning she would be replaced as Hand and all her quiet efforts to claim the throne having not worked, she planned to sail back to Lys. There, she would convince the Magister’s Council to back her son’s claim to Lys, over his uncle, and press her own in The Riverlands as the eldest surviving child of King Grover Tully. 

WHAT WAS DONE?

Because she was once family, Casimir decided against execution. Instead, Emilee was imprisoned with her son to wait for trial until he is able to make his return to Riverrun from Highgarden. She has been stripped of her title as Princess, as well as any wealth or lands in her name. 

Yet, another raven reaches King Casimir in the night. A particular poison has once more reared its head within King Casimir’s kingdom. Emilee and her son have been killed with Tears of Lys. Though her person was searched before her imprisonment, it is unknown if she poisoned herself and her own son, or if someone snuck into her cell. Murder has been (as of now) ruled out due to the origin of the poison, the letters were in the Emilee’s’ own hand, and the likelihood that, if someone snuck into her cell, it was likely at the princess’s own behest. 

With this new information coming to light, King Casimir Tully has placed a full embargo on all trade (as prior it was the reversal of free trade) between The Riverlands and Lys.  

Upon the death of his sister, the Lord of House Blackwood has been named King Casimir’s Hand of The King. 

Though Casimir put a stop to a public funeral (given his absence and her treason) he has still allowed his sister to be sent down The Red Fork, with her son, like their father and mother before her. As the small boat burned on the water, only a small group of servants were present to watch.
