AKA: literally click any ao3 username, "bookmarks" should appear towards the top of the resulting page. You can then voyage into the additionally wonderful waters of filtering by length, "recommended", fandom, etc.

Also: if the fic you like is in collections, try checking them out, especially if the title appeals to you. Can be a great way to find essentially a fic playlist.

(I also got tired of seeing internet news pop up every time I pulled up my INTERNAL search bar just to look for things on my computer, so I googled how to fix that, too. That one was harder, but a comment on a forum post from years ago saved me, so... you CAN force this Windows Malware to operate how you like, and go back to how it used to be and stop being so invasive with internet searches when you don't want them, and AI where you don't want it... with some effort.)

usually when nef gets anxious abt weather noises i'm like 'aw bud it's okay!' but actually this time i'm like 'no i'm with you this wind is kinda scary :('

#like it's often windy here and rattling windows are nothing new really but it's just a bit More and it's getting 2 me a lil lol #doesn't help that (a) the heat went out earlier and i had 2 call in an emergency technician #(who fixed it but also was like 'not totally sure why this happened! could've been the [recently replaced part] so i replaced it (again)'#which like. hope the new one doesn't get revealed 2 suck just as much at like 3 AM...)#and also that (b) we've got 26 mph winds + a realfeel temp outside of -11°F and it's supposed to drop another ten before it gets better 🥶#and i can actively see the picture window in the living room flexing...#anyway yeah really hope we make it thru the night without a power/furnace outage or any windows breaking!!#(i say as the lights flicker)

#this is not about a girl this is about a COMPUTER VIRUS #specifically a nematode #which is a virus that attempts to do good and remove another virus #Welchia is an example of a nematode which was potentially more damaging than the virus it was trying to protect users against #namely that it was very widespread and infected BOTH the ACTUAL US NAVY and the ACTUAL US STATE DEPARTMENT #causing significant delays for both government entities #but it did uninstall the blaster virus and patch the vulnerability blaster exploited!#anyway #Welchia won’t infect you unless you have like. the worst luck imaginable. idk if it’s even still considered active since it’s been so long #even at the time Blaster and Welchia were active; most systems which were even infectable were using OS that were out of date #or went unpatched. simply because attempting to update them could break the programs that the computers were primarily using #for example: my local dentist office has an X-RAY program that clearly wasn’t designed for Windows 11 #the most recent OS they use to run it is windows 7 #even now plenty of restaurants use special embedded formats of windows XP for their point of sale systems even though they’re out of date #because updating them would be hellish and would put the point of sale out of commission for a while #government systems which have specialized programs which are the sole thing the computers are used for would have no incentive to update #because they have to run 24/7/365 and any delay or outage (say by an update to a new OS) could put them seriously behind #any system which cannot pause long enough to be updated or would potentially seriously lose usefulness if it was updated is extra vulnerable #so like. your Windows 11 computer is fine. especially since Welchia has an auto-kill switch when the date changes to 2004 #but at the time it was destructive simply because installing the security patches and interrupting programs/restarting to do so was bad #for computers which needed to never stop working #namely: the things that society quickly crumbles without #luckily Welchia didn’t disrupt the way Wannacry did

And we never have any more than three apps open at a time, those apps being documents, libreoffice, and (at most) two tabs of firefox. A lot of the time we limit it to one app open at a time and it STILL does this.

i hate that all computers just keep getting more and more powerful and for what? to run the programs that are so un-optimized that they struggle to run on even slightly out of date hardware? When just a couple versions ago it could run just fine??

Accidentally sent the whole evening setting up my new laptop, but at least the upside IS that it's almost all done now!

I've got basically every key program reinstalled, as well as all the files I need for work and school. Even quicky tested my PS3 controller and was able to get it up and working quickly with an emulator

Tomorrow I should be able to cross the finish line and actually play some games (and work on my assignment). Gotta see what game would be good for a test

#i took a bunch more time than necessary #because i downgraded to win10 from win11 #but turns out unlike my old computer my new one does not have drivers for win 10 #so i decided to cut straight to upgrading again instead of at best #never being quite sure if a problem was because of my hacky drivers or other stuff #only annoying bit is getting word and stuff running since my school licensed is kinda fucked to activate #the upside of that though is it effectively purged all the bloatware #the downside is i fucking hate windows 11 #they made such stupid fucking choices!!!!! why is the old context menu hidden????#why cant i have quick access at the top of the side panel???#genuinely feel loathful of many changes #it's like ok cool you had something that worked and made it less functional because...?#you just stopped caring?
