To Let Go (pt 2)
-
Zoro wakes up in the middle of a village. He’s unsure of what village he ended up in nor how he got there. After a brief glance at his surroundings, he begins walking. He observes the people as they go about their everyday activities, almost uncaring towards Zoro being there. As he trudges along, vigilant and careful, he wonders if it was all a dream. He wonders if he is totally not lost. Because he’s not. Or maybe he's dead and he doesn't know it. That would be a shame. It irks him to think about. There's no way he could go down that easy. He'd never allow it. Luffy would never allow that. So he has to get back to him, even if he is dead.
He sees a bar and enters, coming face to face with a young woman with dark green hair hauling a barrel of booze. He swiftly walks over and lifts it out of her hands with ease, helping her place it in the back. As he does so, he converses with her for a little while and introduces himself. He explains that he has no idea where he is and how he got there. Asking if she could tell him. Assist him to get out so he can find his crew and captain. She smiles softly.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Zoro. My name is Makino. Right now, you’re on dawn island.”
Zoro freezes. His eye wide with shock and confusion. Of course he immediately knows where he is. He's heard the story before. From him. How could he ever forget. He himself belongs in that side of the blues after all. He knows he can find who he’s looking for here. After all, a first mate should know the most about their captain. He stands and asks Makino whether she’s seen luffy. She raises an eyebrow, asking how he knows him. She’s suspicious, his brain supplies. Yet even so, there's a twinkle in her eye. One he's never seen before. It's… odd. He clears his throat.
“I promise I'm not here to hurt him. I am a friend.”
She smiles at him again. Knowing. Understanding.
“I know.”
She walks back through the door. Zoro moves to follow. He stands in the doorway as she mulls about, moving things around. She tells him that he’s outside at the harbour. He nods. He runs out and heads towards the harbour (asking people where to go along the way). Heavy footsteps sending dust up as he goes. Quick and sharp, ready for what he will find. He sees a mop of messy dark hair. He grins and calls out, seeing them stand.
He raises an eyebrow. Confusion ripples through his body as he stares down at the boy in front of him.
Luffy was a child. Not the child he first met, no. A very small child.
He’s confused. He doesn’t understand. He’s questioning him but Luffy doesn’t really know who he is. He just blinks up owlishly at him, eyes wide. He doesn’t know what’s going on.
“I know I wasn’t here.” Small Luffy says to him, “And… and I know I was somewhere else. I know you. I know Zoro. But I don’t want to go. I'm ok here. I want to stay. The future is too scary. I haven’t met him yet. I haven’t met the man I’m supposed to yet. Maybe it’s better if I don’t?”
First, Zoro thinks to himself, this isn't like Luffy. He's not like his captain. Then, Zoro notices he doesn’t have his Straw Hat. He blinks slowly down at the boy. He begins to understand what point in time this luffy is. Which Luffy it is. When this Luffy is. And in this moment, he will treat this Luffy with kindness and tenderness. If anyone, he will treat his captain alone with this softness. He smiles at him, the gentlest he has in years. Or at least he hopes so and kneels down in front of his little captain. He takes his hand into his own much bigger one.
“But luffy, don’t you want to meet so many friends? Don’t you want to help your future friends?”
“Yes but… but I don’t want to be on my own. I don’t want to do it alone..”
“You’re Never alone luffy. You have us with you. You always have and always will. We are your luffy. You’re our captain.”
“…I’m a captain?”
“You are.”
“Am I good captain?”
“The best in all the seas.”
“And Zoro is..?”
“Your first mate.” He says proudly, eye shining brightly. “The first to join you.”
“Really? That is so cool. Zoro is so cool!”
Zoro chuckles at this little Luffy and the boy looks down before he speaks again.
“… I want to stay. But I know Zoro and the others need me.”
Zoro nods, his captain's stubbornness still so strong no matter where or when they are. He grins, just as stubborn as he is but he knows that Luffy doesn't need that.
“I won’t force you to come with me luffy but I’ll stay here with you for as long as you want me to.”
“But Zoro… Zoro won’t reach his goal.”
“That’s fine by me. As long as I’m here with my captain.”
“If Zoro can’t reach his goal…” He pouts, “I want you to.”
“I won’t leave without you.”
“…grandpa won’t like it.”
“You have me to protect you.”
“…promise?”
“I swear it on the life I have given to you.”
Luffy's eyes are wide and clear as he stares into Zoro's remaining eye. There's a flame there. Zoro grins. He's got him.
“Ok. I’ll come home with you.”
Luffy takes his hand and leads him towards the forest. Before Zoro can ask where he’s taking him, he has to shield his eyes.

Luffy blinks up and catches the hat that fell from the blonde man’s head. His face splits into a wide watery grin. He holds tight as his eyes shine with tears. Marco slams into Akainu, knocking him far away from them as he fights him off. Luffy jumps and hugs the man.
“Sabo! Sabo, how did you remember?! You aren’t supposed to remember!”
“What are you talking about Lu? I was already coming to save Ace and yet I didn’t even factor in that I’d see you again this quickly. Well since last we met at Water 7 with gramps anyway.”
Luffy is confused by this because Sabo isn’t supposed to remember. Yet everyone is calm and not confused to see him. That leaves him even more confused. Sabo is… here with him. To save Ace but… he's not supposed to be. Ace comes over and crashes into the hug. He’s relieved. Luffy looks up at Sabo. He stares at his face. This is different. There is no scar.
“Come on guys, we have to go!”
He hears Usopp calling for them and without hesitation, he grabs his brother's hands and runs. He runs and runs and runs. He calls to Whitebeard a quick thank you as he goes and Whitebeard smiles at him. He looks back for a moment to see his brothers, tired and hurt but alive. His blood runs cold as he feels his movements become sluggish. He can feel his adrenaline going down, he’s tired. His head begins to throb as he runs desperately. A flash and he sees something.
A warm, calloused hand in his. A gentle smile.
“You’re Never alone luffy… we are yours… you’re our captain.”
“I know Zoro and the others need me.”
“I won’t leave without you.”
“Promise…?”
But he can’t hear the rest. His head aches. His eyes go blurry as his energy is zapped. He falls forward. Someone reaches for him. He grabs the hand and leads them away. He can feel the denial and refusal but that child took him away…

More Joy Day 2024 is next week!
And I finally put together a real post about it. Progress!
What is More Joy Day? An explanation cribbed from my original post:
Years ago, I was reading the American Idol recaps over on Televisionwithoutpity.com and I came to this paragraph, written by the recapper Jacob:
Some dick cuts you off on the highway, and you give yourself the pass to be a dick to the next five customers, and your bad mood fades by lunchtime, and you forget the dick on the highway, you forget the color of his car, you forget how he was on the phone with his ex-wife, yelling about custody of their kids, and how he never meant to cut you off in the first place, he was just distracted. Your day continues as planned, and at lunch you check your websites and read a funny recap, and you maybe laugh out loud, and you go home and watch TV. But those five guys give themselves the pass to be dicks to the next five -- they're having a bad day, so it's okay just this once, and they're happy again by lunch -- and those twenty-five become six hundred twenty-five, and those six twenty-five become a million, and you've added to the sum total of anger in the world. But it works with love, too, and kindness. ... Your donation is something tangible, but what it means is something altogether more powerful, and it's that you continue to stand, and you continue to remember that you're not alone, and with reverence for this fact, you can't help but add to joy. Which is your entire job, from the day you're born until the day you die: more joy.
These times are desperately in need of joy, and it is incumbent on us to do our small part if we can, to send the ripples out into the world.
So every year since 2008, in the interest of spreading more joy, I’ve proposed that on a designated day in early January we each engage in one act, either online or physical space (or both!), which brings joy to another person, in the hopes that that person will spread that joy further, and exponentially onward.
This year's More Joy Day will be on Friday, January 12!
EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to participate in even the smallest way! Some ideas of things we can do, fannish and otherwise:
Write a fic, make a podcast, make a vid, or make a fanart for someone.
Buy someone paid discord or tumblr or Dreamwidth time.
Leave someone a nice comment on their work.
Say something nice about someone.
Say something nice about something fannish you love and encourage squee.
Donate five dollars to the charity of someone's choice.
Send flowers to an online friend in a different city.
Buy someone you know a present.
Plant a tree or a flower in someone's honor and take a picture of it and post it.
When somebody cuts you off on the road, wish them well and hope they get where they’re going safely.
Make somebody a friendship bracelet. Or a construction paper heart.
Call someone you love and tell them so.
Buy someone lunch.
Give a stranger a compliment.
Put up a Zoom background celebrating the person you're talking to.
Or anything else you can think of! The sky's the limit.
Then on Friday, make a tumblr or DW post or tweet or skeet or snapchat or WHATEVER, saying what you've done (and/or a note that it's More Joy day), and that will hopefully help spread things further.
I look forward to sharing the joy with all of you!

General Info
What is UraIchi Week?
It’s a week-long fanworks event to promote the Urahara Kisuke x Kurosaki Ichigo ship. There’s no sign-up, it’s just for fun, and everybody can participate. Completed works and wips are both acceptable, and any type of fanwork (fanfic, fanart, gifsets, etc.) is welcome. NSFW and/or potentially trigger-y content is allowed, although please remember to tag your works properly.
The ship itself can be written romantically or platonically so long as it stars these two characters together in some way. Poly ships are also fine so long as Ichigo and Kisuke are still the focus of the fanwork. And crossovers and fusions are also allowed even if it isn’t one of the given prompts for the event. Basically, anything goes, and the only criteria is that it has to be UraIchi-centric.
Posting:
For those of you with Tumblr, you can tag your stuff with #UraIchi Week 2023 in the first five tags of your post. I’ll be tracking that tag so I’ll see it and reblog it to this blog. (If it’s been a few days since you posted and I still haven’t reblogged it, something probably went wrong, Tumblr’s not always reliable, so just shoot me an ask about it and I’ll reblog it.)
For those of you with AO3, I will create a collection a day or two before the event starts, and you’ll be able to add your work to the collection when you post. (I’ll toss up a notice for everyone once the collection is up.)
And of course we have our Discord server (link is on the sidebar) so if you want to come and talk about what you’re working on or you just want to chat, feel free to join us there!
At this point, the UraIchi Server has definitely gotten a lot bigger than just UraIchi, but we do still have channels dedicated to UraIchi events.
~ Themes
The votes are in and tallied so here are the results that everyone’s been waiting for! It’s your choice whether or not you want to make a fanwork that includes all the themes of that day, or a fanwork for each theme, or a fanwork for just one. You can make something for each day of the week or just one or two days. And if your fanwork doesn’t fit any of the themes, there’s a Creator’s Choice option on the last day so feel free to bring your own ideas to this event. All prompts can be interpreted any way you want as well, it’s entirely up to you, any extra bits I’ve added is just to help get those inspiration bunnies hopping.
An extra note about the sentence prompts: feel free to change the tenses and pronouns as it suits you. If you’re inspired by a sentence prompt, then of course you should include it in your fic (as opposed to the quote prompts which are just inspiration in a general-theme-of-your-work sort of way), but if you need to change the tense from present to past, or if you’re doing a genderbend fic and need to change the pronoun, that’s perfectly fine.
And now here are the prompts:
June 26th, 2023 - Day 1: the passage of time is a game-changer, for better or for worse

For the fic writers ask game!!
14 how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?
40 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
56 What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?
p.s. you are definitely a proper writer and a wonderful one!
Rediscovered The Inbox (which tends to hide on the mobile app) -better late than never on a reply??
I did answer 14 already ages ago I think so have been pondering the other two…
40 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
I actually just commissioned some art on one particular scene which I am beyond excited about and may well get addicted to that process (note to self, check whether hubby is cool with second mortgage purely for multiple art commissions…) so that is kind of a dream come true (I’m getting WIP sketches etc and doing a lot of happy screaming!) but aside from that one…
There are scenes I feel like I’ve described quite well which could be artable but for others the actual picture stayed mostly in my head because I felt the detail would clog the narrative and I think I describe sound and smell better than visual anyway I think? There definitely one I’d love to see but not sure I’ve ever adequately described Estera for anyone to draw her (tho they’d be welcome to try!) but… if I could magically crystallise any image I’ve written it would be the photo she’s looking at here:
Her gaze shifted to the new photo, framed in blue, that she had recently added to her gallery. Yes, and in the last few months… everything had suddenly changed again. But this time in an indisputably good way. Because the imaginary hero had somehow shed the imaginary bit and become her friend. The two of them grinned manically out of the hasty selfie - hair dishevelled, flushed with adrenaline and drenched in seawater but vividly, irrepressibly alive.
Which was taken just after this scene. And yes, Scooter has destroyed another expensive suit 😏
56 What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?
I’m going to try to flip something I often worry is a failing in my stories because the reason I haven’t “fixed” it is because it is actually the bit I feel I’m best at and certainly is the stuff that comes out when I get excited with a sudden NEED to write immediately. So… even though I suspect it makes my fic slooow and the plot languishes in the background…
A thing I love doing and I think I’m getting better at is exploration of the thoughts and feelings of a character in a specific moment/scene. Usually through an inner monologue, sometimes interspersed with dialogue, but I just love picking apart a character’s mind spiral to show where they are mentally on a matter, where they came from and maybe edging them towards some progress. Scott and Virgil are the usual victims of this but I often do it to an OC as well, with the intent of showing one of the main characters’ development through external eyes.
Again, it doesn’t make for exciting, action-filled fic and I sometimes feel guilty for posting 3 chapters covering about 10 mins of events but… actually I enjoy reading that kind of thing from other people so clearly I believe it’s legit story telling when they do it so I’m trying to give myself permission to believe it is when the writer is me :)
Thanks for the ask and the encouragement (which, coming from one of my fave writers, is extra encouraging!)

tall? lilia isn’t tall
Hello Anonie 🌺🌻🌷
I’m not sure in what context this is referring to?
Could you be talking about this fic I’ve wrote before, about certain tags I’ve written in posts, or about the popular theory? Or maybe all of the above?
Whatever the case, I’ll try to answer this more broadly. 🤔
So, yes, Lilia isn’t tall.
But, I’ve been in this fandom since almost the beginning. Since around the middle or end of 2020?
At that time, there was a popular theory that Lilia had two forms because of all the hints in game. His dorm uniform, certain lines he mentioned, his age, his background info, etc.
The fact that he’s older than he clearly is disguised gave more evidence to this theory. Especially when you considered his past and knowing that’s he’s a general at one point.
(Diasomnia was added into the game later than everyone else, they have always been a mystery even in the past.)
So there was a popular theory, and my fave in all honesty, that Lilia had this tall and long haired form.
Many, many, fanarts reflected this. Some of my favorite twst jp artists drew some spectacular art with this theory in mind.
Since then, it was recently confirmed (2023) that yes, Lilia had long hair in the past but he wasn’t tall.
So maybe that is where the confusion came from?
Regardless, I love both ideas. Both the fan idea of tall and long haired Lilia and the current canon form of past and current time Lilia.
If I get started, I could ramble about how fae in many lore can change forms so technically we can still have a tall and long haired Lilia. I can also talk about how fae are more darker in their ways as well. I can also go into how fae are known for their sensuality, trickeries, and their debauchery as well.
All of which, I would love to add or hint at in my writing more, and additionally, you can see some writers use these traits in their creations in the twst fandom already as well. (Especially jp 💞🙏 yessss I adore it)
Hope that explained it well enough Anonie 🌷🌺

Hey bitch, it's @chipmunkery <3
13, 32, 40 (no reason in particular 👀), 63, 64 for the ask meme
HEY BESTIEEEEE!! Thank you for sending me an ask even though I'm sure you know the answer to like. half of these questions lmaooooo 💖💖💖💖
13. what’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
ooh I actually have to think about this one for a second, hang on
maybe using sensory details and actions to break up dialogue? Sometimes if I think there needs to be a moment between two lines of dialogue but I'm not actually giving the reader a chance to pause by using an emdash or an ellipses, I'll throw something in there to break it up. I have some examples from the damitim fic:
“You’re not talking?”  “No.” “Is that your call?”  Damian puts the teapot on the stove with slightly more force than required, flicking on the burner in the same fashion. “No,” he says flatly.
okay yeah so in this bit I put that action with the teapot in there as a substitute for a line about Damian pausing, because "he paused" looked boring and felt wrong, so I gave him something to do in that time. This also uses the other bit of advice I posted about the other day about avoiding just saying how a character feels. The action I gave him tells you how he's feeling about it: he's frustrated. But also, he says no flatly, because he doesn't want his words to show that he cares.
Sometimes instead of an action I'll throw in a train of thought because like. If the character has time to notice a smell or to feel something, it creates the breathing room I need to emphasize the dialogue. like here:
“No, I fucking don’t! Damian,” Tim scoffs, as if he’s explaining this to a child, “I’ve been living with Ra’s Al Ghul for the last six years, do you honestly think that Bruce is going to trust me after that?”  And Damian hadn’t thought of that. Hadn’t thought of not trusting Tim, or forgiving him, for even a second.  He is not a fool. He does not think that Tim has spent six years lounging around like a prince in a castle, living in luxury.  That Tim spent six years there and kept his hands clean.  He pretends he does not feel like he’s begging.  “That does not mean you have to leave.”
the time it takes to get from the sentence to the response creates the feeling of the pause even though it's not written anywhere that there is a pause. It just feels like there was a pause while he processed that, and the dialogue is emphasized because of that. Honestly, this is probably the most common thing I do in editing. This actually might not be a common writing tip but I find it works for me and I already wrote all this out and I couldn't think of any common writing tips lol
32. Name three of your favorite fanfic writers.
@kieran-granola, @yasmindifference, and @jpeg-dot-jpeg fr this was so easy to answer, everything they write is fucking amazing go read their stuff rn if you haven't already
also honorary mention to you because your stuff is also fucking amazing and I'm EATING IT UP I'VE BROUGHT UP THE JAYBART FIC IN LIKE 4 POSTS AND I'M GONNA DO IT AGAIN RIGHT NOW ADJFAGNAJGLKJF THAT FIC HAS A HOLD ON ME
40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
NO PARTICULAR REASON?? NO PARTICULAR REASON, LIKE I HAVEN'T BEEN TELLING YOU HOW HARD I WOULD LOSE MY SHIT IF YOU MADE ART TO GO WITH ONE OF MY PIECES???? YOU THINK I LOSE MY SHIT ABOUT YOUR ART NOW??????? JUST WAIT OKAY JUST WAIT!!!!
Alright well first off anything from this list, but also specifically anything where any of them are covered in blood. The way you draw blood is gorgeous and I'd lose my MIND to see one of my ideas with it 😭 I actually once said to you (half-joking) that I added so much blood to the DamiTim fic because I was trying to lure you into drawing it 😂
So, for you specifically:
that one scene in I Know What My Brother Is where DamiTim (TimDami? I don't really like the order of the ship name mirroring top/bottom dynamics but whatever) are on the bed and Damian's resolve is about to break again
jaytimkon cuddling from the first chapter of Bad Days
that scene in scars & stitches where Tim is leaning Jason back so he can stitch him up and Jason leans back way farther than he needs to
oh my god something from You Hear His Voice Once and You Know It Again like. I'd lose my MIND if you drew lazzied Tim akdjfajkf OOOH YEAH MAYBE THE SCENE WHERE TIM IS HOLDING JASON'S JAW AND JASON IS HOLDING TIM'S WRIST AND IT'S RIGHT WHEN THEY BOTH GO GENTLE FOR A MINUTE
I just really love the way you draw intimacy 😭😭😭 all of these moments are SO intimate you know? Also no pressure to draw any of these, and also anyone is welcome to draw any of these too!! It's just easier for me to pick out specific ones for someone whose style I'm familiar with (and also the ones I'm like. I know for sure I would lose my shit if you drew these lmaooo)
63. Something you hate to see in smut.
I hate the word lover okay I just don't like it I hate it SO much adkjfjafurghgurhgaurhgauhra it upsets me okay it's a me problem whatever
I also don't love the whole 'the older one' 'the younger one' etc. thing, but that's more of a general writing pet peeve than in smut specifically. (It doesn't bother me if it's intentional and like. a kink that someone is leaning into? But it does bother me when it's clear that someone just didn't want to use names again)
64. Something you love to see in smut.
emotional intimacy of any kind. even if it's two characters who are hatefucking instead of being deeply in love. I just. I need them to have feelings about each other it's SO much better that way
also praise kink lol "good boy" are you kidding

ABOUT AND FAQ
What is a Mini Bang?
The Magia Record Mini Bang is a fandom event for writers and artists, with the goal of creating collaborative work based on and inspired by the mobile game Magia Record (and its spinoff media).
Participating authors will each write a fanfiction of at least 5,000 words. Once the authors have decided on and submitted summaries for their work, the stories will be claimed by artists and matched. As the author works on completing their work, they will collaborate with the artist. Then, each artist will create at least one piece of accompanying fanart.
Once we reach the deadline, all fic writers and artists will 'reveal' their work, resulting in a 'bang' of MagiReco fan content.
PLEASE DIRECT ANY QUESTIONS NOT ANSWERED IN THIS POST TO OUR ASK BOX.
Alternately, you can contact @abarero at any of my linked social media accounts (twitter, tumblr, or discord).
How Does it Work?
Once signups open, authors will have until early April to complete a MagiReco fanfiction of at least five thousand words. A month into the writing period, they must submit an anticipated summary of their piece, and closer to the end of the event, they must submit a draft showing that at least two thousand words have been written.
Before the summaries are submitted and artists are selected, you must keep the contents of your fics secret. This is because we want the artist/author selection process to remain anonymous. You may discuss your piece with close friends or your beta reader, but not on social media or in the official discord. Once an artist is assigned to your work, both artist and author may freely discuss their works in progress on social media, discord, etc.
A month into the event, summaries are received and posted publicly for artists to see. Artists then go through and pick the TOP THREE summaries they would like to draw art for most. We will do our best to get artists the summaries they prioritize highest, but it's very important they select three, because unfortunately giving everyone their number one pick is likely impossible.
Artists will be allowed to tell us pairings, squicks, triggers, tropes, ratings, characters, etc that they refuse to draw for, and they can also inform us if there are any participants they are not comfortable working with (we will publish a list of all participants before this date).
Once the posting period begins in early April, participants may post their works at any time throughout it. Collaborating art and fic should be posted at the same time, so you will need to work this out with your partner. You can, but are not required to embed your art in the fic. If it makes you more comfortable, you are welcome to post the art separately and link it in the fic (and the artist must link your fic in the art post). Or you can do both!
All of these will of course be reblogged to this blog!
Who is in charge here?
Mod Abarero (she/her, cis lesbian): This is my first time running a bang, but I've run several large fandom projects before. I’ve been playing MagiReco since August 2019, survived playing on both the NA and CN servers until closure and still play regularly on the JP Server. This project is part of my yearly goal to spread my MagiReco love to the fandom.
Tumblr: @abarero
Twitter: abarerokitty
Discord: Abarero
At this point in time I am moderating this by myself, as I don't anticipate it being too large for me to handle, but on the off chance it does, I will add a second mod.
FAQ:
What can I write?
Whatever you want as long as it’s Magia Record. There is no rating restriction (but you must be CLEAR about the rating when submitting your summary, and participants under eighteen cannot write or draw for mature fics). Alternate Universe is acceptable, as is crossover as long as the focus is primarily on the MagiReco cast.
Finished fics must be posted on A03. If you do not have an A03 account and need one, let me know.
Finished fics will also be added to a MagiReco mini-bang collection.
Why secrecy?
To keep things fair. Writers who are well known or prolific are more likely to get artists flocking to their summaries. This way both writers and artists get an equally fair shot.
Can anyone participate?
Yes, absolutely. Just sign up.
What happens if there are more writers than artists?
In this admittedly likely scenario, there will be a section of the artist signup form that asks if you are willing to complete art for more than one fanfiction.
If you are, please select 'yes' and let us know (tentatively, this does not have to be set in stone) how many you think you can do. It is perfectly fine if you can only do one.
There will also be a section for if you are willing to 'pinch hit' i.e. complete a piece of art if someone drops.
Can I do something that isn't art? Cosplay, gifs, graphics, or fanvids?
Yes you can! However, there will be a section on the form for writers for if they'd prefer only art, or they'd be willing to collaborate on another medium. Please do sign up though!
Can I sign up as both author and artist?
Yes. Definitely. Just fill out both forms.
CONTENT GUIDELINES:
• ALL work must have sensitive content labeled.
This includes the standard A03 labels (Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con, Underage), as well as anything else you may deem necessary. Please do not just label something 'dead dove, do not eat!’ You must explain what the dead dove is. All pairings present must also be labeled.
• As mentioned earlier, mature content is okay, but participants under eighteen cannot write or draw for it.
PROCESS:
1. Writers and artists both sign up. Writers begin drafting their fics and preparing their summaries.
2. Writers submit summaries. Artists select their top three favorite summaries, and they are assigned one (or more) fic to draw for. They are given the contact information for their writer.
3. It is required that participants join the official mini-bang discord to help communication between artists, writers and mod.
4. Once the deadline comes around, you are free to post your fics and art! If your story is a chapter fic, you do not have to post it all in one go, but it MUST be majority posted by the time the posting period has ended. (If you have a longer fic and want to space out chapters on a weekly basis starting in April, feel free to do so.) The goal is to try and have it mostly finished by the final posting date of May 1st, 2024.
CHECK-INS:
There will be two check-ins.
1. First check-in is one month in, when you submit your summary and acknowledge to us that you have contacted or been contacted by your artist.
For artists, we ask you to acknowledge to us you have contacted or been contacted by the author.
2. Second check-in is one week before the due date. At this time we will ask to see at least two thousand words of writing. It is okay if it is in 'draft' stage and not polished or beta read. For artists, we will ask to see a preliminary sketch. This CAN be rough.
SOCIAL MEDIA:
As noted, please do not discuss your bang on social media until you have been assigned an artist.
You will be asked to provide at least two forms of contact in your signup form.
PLEASE join our discord. The link will be provided to all participants on acceptance into the bang. I cannot ask for this enough, because it will make it so much easier for us to do check-ins and for you to collaborate with your partner. There will also be channels where you can brainstorm with your fellow creatives.

The Tumblr
Something I’ve been working on… since… well… last year, really. It’s not my best work, but I had fun with it. I wanted to add more, but it had reached the end. So without further ado, I give you “The Tumblr.”
Once upon a Tumblr scrolling, while I reblogged, eyes a-rolling, Liking many a post of ancient texts and arts and more— Nearly sleeping, yeah as if, suddenly there came a notif, I see a reblog as a gift, as a gift they left me more. “Just some mutual,” I muttered, “reblogging from me yet more— They like and reblog even more.”
Ah, distinctly I remember it was that one meme from December; And each older ancient meme there found it’s way there back to fore. Eagerly I sought yet more;—vainly I had sought for yet more; From others I would reblog more—more to keep away the bore— For the rare and ancient older memes which were out there for no more— Lost out there for evermore.
And the writing, art, a hoard filling up my crazy dashboard Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic feelings never felt before; So that now, to still the wonder I felt inside, I repeated yet another “Just some mutual reblogging another art and even more— Some mutual reblogging another art even more;— Like and reblog even more.”
Presently my board grew longer; postings from many a blogger, “Wow,” said I, “go you fiends, truly your postings I adore; I cannot believe all the blorbos, art and writing and more so, And so many of your blorbos, blorbos being posted galore, That I was sure to scroll past”—then I scrolled to see more;— Eeby Deeby and many more.
Late into the nighttime scrolling, long I laid there scrolling, rolling Liking, reblogging memes no mortal ever dared to meme before; But the scrolling was unbroken, and the posting gave no token, After came the next meme there then was with the one word, “L’amour” This I stared at, and another post then with the word, “L’amour!”— Liking this reblogging more.
Back onto the dashboard scrolling, all around my mouse wheel rolling, Soon again I saw a notif and even more than before. “Surely,” said I, “surely usual reblogs from my mutual; Let me see, then, that mutual, and this notif explore— Let my scrolling stop a moment and this notif explore;— Then they reblog even more!”
Stopping then to scroll again, when, with posting my board did extend, With a posting of AO3 with chapters to read yet even more; Not the least of a smile I made; but a grin it was not to fade; But, with fingers flying I bade, I had to see what was in store— Fixed upon my screen of color just before my viewing orbs— Fixed, the text, to read some more.
Then the story now alluring kept on going and enduring, By the dozens they piled up the fanfics and originals galore, “Though surely there is an end to them,” I said, “but alas to begin, Many I have yet to read adding onto my list before— Tell me how many more shall there be on this dash of tales more!” Silence there forevermore.
Much I marvelled this ungainly reading to see another story so plainly, Though they keep on being written—being added even more; For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Before was blessed with seeing so many fics and art galore— Fics or OCs upon the dashboard created with such fervor, With fanart to view even more.
But the dashboard, being filled up with all of these, still added All the more, as if their soul in writing those words did outpour. Many more then did I see—yet more of them came to me— For I really more than agree “All these posts I adore— On the board they will be shown, as many posts have been before.” Then yet I saw even more.
Seeing all the new posts added kept me going at it, “Crazy,” said I, “that these posts are being made yet more and more With videos, stories, and memes with such wonderful daydreams The dasboard bulging at the seams till the posts were reblogged more— Till the posts on the board which need to be reblogged more Given homes forevermore.
But the posts still beguiling all my fancy into smiling, Straight I tagged a mutual there onto my board, for one notif more Then, after tagging yet another, I then looked at every other Posting upon posting, liking what this whimsical board did store— What this great, ungainly, gnarly, giant, and whimsical board did store To reblog yet all the more.
This I sat engaged in posting, but no posts for boasting For the board had filled with new shows upon those before; GIFs and more I set to liking, with my hand on mouse divning On the button’s clacky clicking where the cursor hovered o’er; On the button-press clicking where the cursor hovered o’er, This I press, ah, all the more.
Then, methought, the posts grew wilder, coming from some new beguiler Made by Scorsese whose film was given a whole other score. “Whoa,” I cried, “Goncharov I see—on the dashboard I came to see Unreal—unreal it has to be from false memory of before See, oh see this unreality and keep up this new fun lore!” They continued posting more.
“Crazy!” said I, “Goncharov!—crazy stuff, it is not enough!— Whether poster sent, or whether others posted thee here aboard, Wonderful are the story lines, to the forefront from other minds— On this board by blogging posted—tell me truly, I implore— Is there—is there more of Goncharov?—tell me—tell me, I impore!” There they posted even more.
“Crazy!” said I, “Goncharov!—crazy stuff, it is not enough! By the posting that sends these to us—by that blog we all adore— Show this soul with eager yearning if, within the posts a-churning, It shall see a new one turning to give the new tale more lore— See another post is done turning to give the new tale more lore.” Posted there I saw yet more.
“See here now our sign of parting, Goncharov!” I voiced, mouse scrolling— “Set thee back into the dashboard and let the memes return once more! Leave there traces as a token of that tale OP hath posted! Leave thy posting there unbroken!—keep the post going some more! Keep thy meme post on my dash, and keep thy tale with all the lore!” Goncharov forevermore.
And the dashboard, always chilling, still is filling, still is filling With a manul cat of Pallas just upon my catered board; And the memes have all the seeming of the posters that are dreaming, And the art-work o’er here being shared all over on the board; And my soul with all that posting that lies floating on the board; Shall be lifted—all the more!

I think there are a lot of questions about your tactics here, and that's why there are so many messages about it. For example, if someone is a brand new blog, how long do you wait before blocking them for not adding an age or not reblogging fics? Do you give them a few days or is it on sight, because what if they haven't had the chance to do so yet? And for users that have set up a blog, how far back on their pages are you going? Some people reblog a bunch of stuff a day and their recs could be hidden in a few pages. How much time are you spending making sure they don't "support" creators?
A lot of people come at you in their anger and are very unkind which isn't okay, but I think it's difficult to hear you and other creators call these "lurkers" worthless and useless to the fandom as a whole. It's very aggressively derogatory, I guess. Not everyone has the time to devote a large portion of their day to keeping up an aesthetic fanfic blog. Not everyone is on tumblr every day. Some people just come on to read when they have the chance, and yes, it would be nice for them to show their support, but it's difficult to want to when you're called useless for not interacting in the specific way you're calling for. Some people like stuff to reblog later. How do you approach that situation?
Not meant to be a hate message, just offering some thoughts as an outsider. And maybe a chance for clarity between everyone.
Honestly? I spend more fucking time than I should doing this shit. Time that if you add it up could’ve probably written an entire multichap in, and yet I still do it.
I’ll typically block every few days because I’m lazy and it’s now become my worst part of tumblr so it just annoys me when I do it. I’d say a few days is a good amount for a new user to reblog at least one piece of fanart or one fic/drabble. Especially when the blank blogs I’m blocking have page after page of fics in their likes.
When it’s a blog that doesn’t reblog fics I’ve literally gone back months and found nothing. You can also use the little search symbol at the top of their page to double check that they haven’t reblogged fics which is way easier, but I like to scroll because it gives that actual time indication on whether they’ve reblogged something or not.
I know it hurts to hear that you’re worthless to tumblr if you’re a lurker, but it’s true? It’s so so true. Because if no one even knows that you’re here, because you’re not using the site as intended, and you’re not supporting creators that probably make your day/night, that’s exactly what you are?
I have a ridiculous amount of followers on that blog, more than anyone needs on tumblr, and over 90% of them don’t reblog or comment on fics. If you had that many followers wouldn’t you want to cut it down too? To make your space more comfortable? The way you’re talking is that 40,000 followers are too busy to reblog a single fic. One fic. Let’s assume that 39,000 of those followers are old/inactive. You still have a thousand people too “busy” to reblog fic, but they can reblog a thousand posts about vanilla extract, porn links and ugly white men.
People that like stuff to reblog later will have fics on their page, the people I’m blocking have none. If you’re one of the people supporting writers you have nothing to worry about, Anon. But I’m assuming that you’re a lurker.
I can so easily unblock people, the same way they can easily reblog a fic. If this is what it takes to make people understand when writers are literally begging for for interaction then I don’t mind being the one to get all this shit slung at me if it means that someone’s day is made by one single reblog on their fic.
Anyway— please post a comment this long on your favourite fic on tumblr? Cause I bet you’ve never bothered.

omg this is me trying not to pick every single option for the fanfic writer ask thing. like good lord i would love to know ALL OF THAT.
I’ll narrow it down tho :)
4, 11, 17, 23, 27, 40, 56
if that’s still too many, feel free to just pick your fav one!!
I got ‘em all!!
Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?
Ruined Ambitions is largely drawn from my own experiences, other people’s experiences, and shameless wish fulfillment. But then for longer pieces like Judecca and an upcoming fic it’s some part of the culture that I live in (Bible Belt) and wanting to be a moderately pretentious contrarian about it. Also occasionally prompts, but I have a very long list of those to choose from.
Link your three favorite fics right now
Poured Out Like Water
this one is insanely underrated!!
sickly sweet
a certified @jittyjames banger my history says I’ve read it dozens of times 😳
no talk of god
devastating don’t let the cover art fool you. It’s a perfect prequel to the uk arena tour and the characterization is so good.
What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)
Depends on the block. If I’m just completely stuck, and hate everything I’ve ever written then just trying to push ahead is pretty useless. Those are all signs that I haven’t been taking physical care of myself and I need to get back on track before there’s any point in adding stress from writing goals.
But if that’s not the problem I play video game music! It’s perfect since it’s designed to keep you focused on whatever you’re doing. If I can push myself past about ten minutes without switching to a different tab, that usually breaks the block enough for a oneshot.
Best writing advice for other writers?
It’s cliche but perfect is the enemy of good. So find the point where it’s good enough and then let it be. Also if you really hate the scene you’re writing you should probably change the scene.
What is your most and least favorite part of writing?
Honestly it’s when I get a comment or bookmark from someone who connected with what I wrote. A lot of the stuff I post comes from very personal and vulnerable places and it’s nice to not be alone there.
Least favorite is when I’m stressed out for other reasons I get absolutely convinced that everything I’ve written is terrible and embarrassing. Like it’s a great outlet but thanks for the new vulnerability I guess 🤨
If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Literally so many. If I had the skills I would probably be doing illustrations for every chapter and every oneshot. Top three would be Judas being healed in Judecca, the date in Not Just Any Man, and literally any moment from What’s That In The Bread?
What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?
Okay so just being able to write gay stuff at all is very significant so I am very proud of that. When I was a kid/teen i would go out of my way to make it clear that my characters were Definitely Not Gay because that would be Wrong. Stylistically I also think that my stuff is fun to read and I love hiding easter eggs and literary references.

Ten Random Lines
Rules: Pick any ten of your fics, scroll to the midpoint, pick a line (or three) and share it. Then tag ten people.
I was tagged by @radio-chatter! Thanks so much. This one looks fun!
Tagging: @writercorianarose @thedemoninthecorner @dreams-of-kalopsia @shesailsships @eyeliner-vampire @alonelyturtle @goneahead @csakuras and anyone else with fanfics they want to play this game with!
Ah, nothing like finding an error in a years old fic when doing a tag game...
Anyway, on to the lines. I jumped all around with the ages of the fics, and tried to do so with the fandoms, but if you are familiar with my works, you know that Ghost Hunt will dominate the list.
House of Memories / Fandom: Memorist (k-drama)
We’re not that close, she had told him, even if it had been slightly in jest. She had no right to watch over his restless slumber.
2. Day One / Fandom: Ghost Hunt (manga)
Only Mai could recognize the slight hitch of emotion in his voice.
3. Fix Me / Fandom: Ghost Hunt (manga)
“What do I need to do? Give over some blood, recite some spells?”
4. Unchained Melody / Fandom: Tale of the Nine Tailed (k-drama)
The moment broke when the music on her phone changed to something harsh and jarring.
5. The Last of the Real Ones / Fandom: Ghost Hunt (manga)
Luella told Eugene she believed him, of course. Mainly because she knew Oliver wouldn’t mess up his room for a prank. But no, she had not felt it.
6. Rebel Just For Kicks / Fandom: Final Fantasy XV (game)
Noctis pulled the truck to the side and went around the car. Ignis could see the fear-stricken faces of the passengers within.
7. A Noble Vow / Fandom: Pandora Hearts (manga)
She didn’t want to fall into another stupor and risk saying something stupid again.
8. Lost in the Echo / Fandom: Ghost Hunt (manga)
He dropped her off about a block from her home, and they never saw each other again.

2021 Fic in Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tagged by @radio-chatter! Thank you! ^^
Hi, I’m RaisedonRadio & FortressofmyPast on AO3 and FF.net. This is a tradition going on for years! Check out my prior year end posts: 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015.
Total Number Of Completed Works: 2
Total Word Count: 4729
Fandoms I’ve Written In: Ghost Hunt (Japanese anime/manga), Memorist (Korean drama).
Looking Back, Did You Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You’d Expected?
Less. This past week I had hoped to finish another WIP, but instead I took the time to digitize a bunch of writing that had been trapped in notebooks. It was actually a lot of fun, there were so many stories I had forgotten about. But, do you know what this means? I ADDED SO MANY WIPs. -_-;; XD
What’s Your Own Favorite Story Of The Year?
I like them both for vastly different reasons.
Did You Take Any Writing Risks This Year?
I wrote for a fandom that only had two other fics in it - one in a language I don’t speak and one a crossover. It was fun because I had to know I was going into it with no anticipation of reader interaction. Truly had to write it because I wanted to.
Do You Have Any Fanfic Or Profic Goals For The New Year?
I’d definitely like to write more. Finish a few of these WIPs hanging around.
Most Popular Story Of The Year?
It’s not right to pit these two fics against each other, they are for very different fandoms, and I literally published the one on December 27th, so…
But I do like to compare the stats for AO3 and FF.net: Call You Mine had 6 reviews/29 favs on FF.net, and 6 comments/34 kudos/9 bookmarks on AO3. That’s a big deal, in the past years Ghost Hunt fics would get much more interaction on FF.net, now AO3 is breaking even.
Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion:
I appreciate every comment, kudo, and fav. I know I say this every year, but it’s true. I write for relatively small fandoms and whenever a reader takes the time to say hi, my heart glows.
Most Fun Story To Write:
Call You Mine. I went into it with the desire to make something incredibly fluffy as a birthday gift and I think I succeeded.

First Lines Tag
Thanks for the tag, @talesofsorrowandofruin!
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line, then tag some of your fellow authors!
I did a similar game to this a long time ago! It’ll be interesting to see if my opening style has changed any.
These are all fanfictions that can be found on my AO3. They were written from 2021 to 2017 are listed starting with the newest.
Some observations I found:
16 of the 20 are under 15 words long.
1 out of the 20 is in first person (but 3 of them could be, if just from the opening line.)
17 of the 20 introduce a character by name.
3 of the 20 open with dialogue.
My favorite? Probably from Rebel Just for Kicks.
Tagging!
@writercorianarose @thedemoninthecorner @dreams-of-kalopsia @radio-chatter @csakuras @scribblesandsorcery and anyone else that has first lines they want to share! Tag me!
1.
At first, Seon Mi didn’t give the last words of Jin Jae Gyu any weight.
- House of Memories, Memorist
2.
It was the weekend.
- Call You Mine, Ghost Hunt
3.
Masako Hara paused at the street corner.
- Waste It On Me, Ghost Hunt

I think I made like one post about Nanowrimo this month, but just wanted to say whoa! I hit 50k words! I had no idea what to expect going in when I had decided to start barely two weeks before November.
I definitely challenged my perfectionism when it comes to writing first drafts and just getting the words down, and that was my goal.
I’m ready to leave these characters alone for a bit and go dust off a few fanfictions starting in December, ha!

My #1 post of 2022
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
Oh interesting, I've never done this before!
Since 31 of my 45 fics are from the manga/anime Ghost Hunt, that's going to dominate the list, but I'll stick in one different fandom just to prove I do write occasionally for others!
Hello everyone, I am RaisedonRadio & FortressofmyPast on AO3 and FF.net. Here is five of my favorite works by yours truly.
Lin's List
A list of 25 things for Lin to refrain from - and keep Oliver from doing - during their stay in Japan. As suggested by Madoka Mori.
A humorous little oneshot under 1000 words. An oldie that has aged well.
The Last of the Real Ones
Being determined to expose them all as frauds might mean losing a piece of himself along the way.
I will admit, I am a oneshot writer. So here is one of like, two chaptered works in my portfolio (not including oneshot collections).
A piece that focuses on a young Oliver when his paranormal skills start to take over his life.
Same Old Lang Syne
Should old acquaintances be forgotten, and never brought to mind?
A post-series look at if the gang drifted apart. Yes, it's based after the Dan Fogelberg song.
Lost in the Echo
Can you call it a reunion if you’ve never met before?
A look into one of Ghost Hunt's biggest mysteries - the death of Eugene Davis.
And the honorary mention fandom, for a kdrama titled Tale of the Nine Tailed:
Unchained Melody
He’s teaching her to drive, why can’t he teach her to dance, too?
I don't normally fall for non canon couples, but I fell hard for Rang and Yu Ri.
Thanks for reading!

hi hi hi!!! I hope you are doing well, it is great to see you answering asks. I’ve been stupid busy and haven’t had time to read the new Willy chapter until this weekend. I usually read everything you write the day it comes out but… life. It’s going to be so good though and I’m so excited. I always want to personally thank you for adding more to Underneath, I love that series and world so much.
I feel like I’ve seen you post a fic for Red, White, and Royal Blue, right? Am I getting you confused with someone else? If not, what did you think of the book!!! I’ve been meaning to read it and seeing you write a fic on it made me interested in picking it up. So yes spill!!!! I hope you’ve been good.
Hi nonnie!
I am muddling through, I hope you’re doing well! I try to answer all of the asks I get (I had some failures in the past where I was like oh I’m gonna need to think on that and then it just took too long, so now I try to be speedy lol)
So happy you’re enjoying the underneath verse and I hope you’ll enjoy Willy’s chapter too. I did pour my heart into that one a little bit, so I really do hope you’ll like it.
And yes, I did write a rwrb fic, an a/o heat fic. Just a bunch of porny hurt/comfort, really. I did like the book! Ramblings under the cut.
I watched the movie first, which I think is probably the better order if you want to do both. The movie is a very condensed version of the book, which is mostly the case in book adaptations, but the movie cuts a lot of characters from the book and changes some aspects of the side plots pretty significantly, and I think the movie also kind of diluted Alex’s character, so reading the book was kind of different. The book is well-written and snappy, and I like the characters. I don’t like all the plot points, but I think this is a great case of really showing the reader how two people fall in love and it’s not just here are two hot people who fuck and therefore must be in love. Henry especially is such a heartbreaking character and I think the author does a good job handling his trauma and mental health. The same goes for Alex. The emails get a little schmoopy sometimes and I think some of those conversations should be had on the phone, but then again, Henry is a letter loving romantic and time difference can be a bitch. The American politics are as much a fairytale as the love story is unfortunately (the politics plot is even more ridiculous in the movie, just ignore that lol), but overall I really enjoyed reading the book and I have reread it. The movie is, despite the low production value and the obvious inexperience of the director, very charming and the leads have great chemistry. So I’d recommend that for a light, fun romcom night. There's also excellent fanfic and fanart out there.
If you do try out the book, I hope you enjoy it and let me know your thoughts!

for ask game :) ❤️💕🦋💡🤔🎨
❤️ what is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?
OOO i rly have to think about this one… i’m gonna give u a silly one and a Dramatic Serious one bc i can’t choose :) they’re both from a fic i haven’t posted yet called bkeoat (bus kids existence of all time) (i promise that’s just a stand in title LMFAO)
silly: “Your life is more important than some ugly fucking couch, Robbie.”
unsilly: Even louder was Jemma’s call of her name, a damning summon that echoed off the bathroom tiles like she had cried it out to God in a long-abandoned cathedral.
💕what is your favorite fic that you’ve written?
OAUFHGGHHH…… tbh i think i gotta go with bkeoat. but out of the fics i’ve posted, then definitely lose your faith in me!!
🦋 which character is your favorite to write?
daisy johnson forever and always!!!
💡 how many WIPs do you current have?
18 total; 15 for aos (but only 6 main ones and the others i just go back to whenever i have time) and 3 so far for graceland :D
🤔 would you ever want to write something canon if you got the opportunity?
hmm depends which fandom. i don’t think i’d be interested in adding to canon for agents of shield, but for graceland i would GLADLY write a s4 where mike gets to experience SOME kind of fucking happiness for once bc jfc😭
🎨 if someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
OOOOOAUGHH…. daisy covered in robbie’s blood while dragging him through the door in bkeoat >:) or maybe jemma and daisy’s kiss at the end of that fic :D

Task’s Archive
Hello everyone!
My friend gave me access to one of her private blogs, and is allowing me to run through it and sort through all the fics and whatnot. Based on what I’ve gotten through so far... I believe that this blog will have to be Star Wars specific. This project is mostly for her and her friends to easily navigate, but if you’d like to use it as well, feel free!
UPDATE: Check @taskfork-updates for updates and requests!
There’s more info on how I run this blog below the cut:
Today, I archived 56 fics. That is a lot less than I was hoping, but it’s getting late, so I’m going to call it a night.
The tags are listed in a specific order, as follows: Character - show/book - fandom - media type (ie fic, fanart, etc.)
So far, I’ve only used character tags + the following: TBB, TCW, Star Wars, fics
Characters: Echo, Crosshair, Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Fives, Hardcase, Jesse
If this does become a Star Wars centered blog, I’ll likely remove the Star Wars tag, and merely keep the tag of the specific show.
Other tags that might be added: era (for instance, TBB characters written in TCW era), content warnings, genre (? is it called genre? What I mean is fluff, angst, hurt/comfort, that sort of thing), reader genders, Jedi!reader, if “Y/N” is used in the fic, and perhaps some other things. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know!
If you don’t want me reblogging your fics (and, to be clear, I am ONLY REBLOGGING, not reposting) or want your fic removed, let me know!
There is more information to add, but I think that’s all I’ll be doing for tonight. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! If my ask box isn’t set up right now, it should be done in the next day or two. If you would like to send a fic for me to include, please do!! And please make sure it’s from the original author or otherwise have permission.
I’m exhausted now. Goodnight!

RE:StoryGraph
First off, thank you so much to everyone who responded to StoryGraph on twitter and contacted them directly about why they should consider handling fanfiction differently. They took the feedback to heart and came up with a compromise that will hopefully allow fanfiction readers and writers to coexist a bit more peacefully on their site.
Second, just so we’re all on the same page, fics are not being reposted or uploaded to StoryGraph. Works are only listed with basic information like title, author name, summary, etc.
Understandably, StoryGraph doesn’t want to engage in the same game of “whack-a-mole” that Goodreads has allowed to go on for ages and they’d rather not delete user data like ratings/reviews. As a solution, they’ve introduced the “Not A Book” label for things like fanfiction, academic papers, articles, etc as well as removing the “buy” button to avoid the appearance of monetization of noncommercial works. In addition to that, “non-book” listings will have hidden reviews and star ratings--only information such as mood, pacing, and content warnings will still be publicly visible.
Overall, I’m impressed with how they handled this issue and how quickly they responded to feedback. The changes to the site make me feel more comfortable with my fics being listed there and the new categorization method will, in my opinion, help create a clearer boundary between professionally published books and the sphere of fandom.
I would still like to ask everyone to reach out to fic writers before you think about trying to list their work on third-party sites and be respectful of their wishes. Please do not use fanart as “book covers” without explicit permission from the artist.
Lessons will be back on AO3 later today and it will continue to be listed on StoryGraph for anyone who wants to count it towards reading goals/challenges. Once I figure out stuff like page counts, I’ll probably add my other completed fics to StoryGraph myself (and I’ll continue getting them removed from Goodreads anytime I see them on there--just switch to StoryGraph please).
For anyone that’s curious about using StoryGraph themselves, I’ll put what I’ve found so far as a new user under the cut:
—StoryGraph is a Black-owned, Amazon-free alternative to Goodreads that links users to Bookshop.org in order to support indie booksellers
—You can import your Goodreads library for simplified onboarding (I haven’t tested this feature myself since I didn’t have much on my GR shelves to begin with)
—In general, StoryGraph seems more focused on presenting actually useful data about books and your reading habits, whereas Goodreads feels like it’s trying to be a social media site (as well as a PVP zone for fic writers and readers)
—Detailed content warnings page where author-approved and user-submitted tags are sorted into graphic, moderate, and minor categories. Each content warning has a little number to note how many people added it and by clicking on the tag itself you can see all the reviews tagging that specific warning
—Community reviews are neatly summarized with a list of descriptors for mood and pacing as well as some simple yes/no questions regarding things like character development and diversity. Each response has a percentage to make it even clearer what the general opinion is. There are still written reviews of course, but you won’t need to sift through them just to get a sense of a book’s overall vibe
Tumblr media
—Stats page that updates whenever you add a book you’ve read or mark something “to read”. All the data appears in colorful pie charts and bar graphs. If you go to your All Time stats, you can compare the moods, genres, page counts, etc of stuff you’ve read to what’s in your to-read pile
—Marking a book “did not finish” removes it from your currently reading list and adds it to your DNF page automatically
—Roadmap page shows what features StoryGraph is working on and what they plan to add in the future. As we’ve seen, StoryGraph responds incredibly well to feedback and they seem keen on constantly improving their site for their users

Are there any EngIta AUs you have? I think you had one from a fanfic you wrote as i recall but I don't think you ever explained any. I'm honestly interested to hear about them
While I have a ton of story ideas, I only have 3 “developed” AUs, two of which I have fanfics for but haven’t added to in a while.

The first one is a human AU set at an American high school. The two of them are juniors. Feliciano does theatre & Arthur does track but in this story in Arthur decides one spring to join theatre in a tech position. I wrote the whole story here on Ao3, and my writing is kind of laughable but that’s what makes it fun. Past that story, I have previous ideas about when they met & started dating (it was because of yearbook) and how all of their other relationships play into the world building. I had another fic planned for their prom… but we’ll see if that ever happens lol.

My second AU is the one i drew the fanart for on here. The story of this one is set in a made up, seaside city in England. This story follows Feliciano who is a young adult working at an aquarium with his cousin (Herakles) and his cousin’s boyfriend (Kiku). one night he meets Arthur who is busking at a pier & they become acquainted.
In this world, Feliciano’s nonno owns a lighthouse in the town, and the main drama of the story is centered around which vargas boy is going to inherit it. along with this, feliciano is continuously haunted by a past relationship, especially as he finds himself catching feelings for Arthur when they happen to run into one another again few months later. he learns that Arthur is a nurse but has an extensive background in music and enjoys playing in band composed of his coworkers and some friends. the story basically follows them along a year, getting to know one another and is full of taste-related descriptions about things that have nothing to do with food, seaside fun, family drama, other characters being around because i do that too much & a LOT of flashbacks. so anyway, i have one chapter posted to Ao3 but the rest of the chapters I’ve written are out of order/incomplete.

The 3rd AU was actually the first one i had ever thought up for them. It’s another human AU like the others- but this story is Arthur-centric. It follows Arthur when he decides to take a gap year after finishing school & travels overseas to a small, made up, seaside town (i love seaside towns, okay?) in Massachusetts to help his grandad with work. His grandad runs a used book and record store and Arthur spends his days working there, slowly getting to know the odd people also running shops along the block. Across the road is a pizza parlour, recently opened by some italian immigrants. This is mainly a “coming of age” 🤢 story- as Arthur realizes he might be falling for the pizza delivery boy who likes to stop in to buy records. i haven’t written anything for this story but it’s very dear to my heart. some might remember the art i drew for this one when i had an insta!
