Adelaide, Dowager Princess of the Isle
Princess Adelaide of Brichester was born in 1847 to Prince Willem-Maurits of Brichester and Infanta Antonia of Selvadorada. Her father was the second son of the reigning King of Brichester and her mother was a niece of King Felipe III of Selvadorada. Adelaide grew up at Emden Castle, a country estate of the Brichester Royal Family. Adelaide's father valued a high education, and thus had all of his daughters educated by tutors from the University of Brichester. Her mother Antonia was an affectionate mother who deeply cared for her children. However, she also had high ambitions, aiming to see her daughters become queens. Adelaide's sisters would become the Queen of Brichester and the Crown Princess of Brindleton through advantageous marriages. Adelaide and her sisters were often referred to as the Brichester Set, beautiful young princesses who became the most sought after brides in the continent.
Adelaide met her mother's cousins, the King and Queen of Selvadorada multiple times throughout her childhood. Before the Selvadoradian Royal Family traveled to San Myshuno for the wedding of Maria Christina to the Prince of the Isle, they visited Antonia and her daughters in Brichester. Maria Christina remarked that her cousin Antonia was "pleasant, but plain" and compared having 9 children to a "living hell". Adelaide was briefly courted by Maria Christina's older brother, Infante Fernando of Selvadorada in 1869, but he died later that year ending the courtship. That same year Maria Christina died in labor, leaving her husband a widower.
Queen Mary II believed that her granddaughters needed a mother figure in their life, and expected her son to give her a grandson who could inherit the throne of Windenburg and San Myshuno. Mary II employed her daughters to look for a bride for her widowed son. Mary's second daughter, Ophelia had met Adelaide at the wedding of her sister to Ophelia's step-son, the Crown Prince of Brindleton. Ophelia suggested to Queen Mary that Adelaide was very beautiful and kind, and being kin to Maria Christina, would make a wonderful mother to her children. Adelaide was invited to Statford Castle in 1870 along with her parents where they were introduced to the Queen and Prince Charles. Prince Charles was pleasant and kind to Princess Adelaide, however she was unimpressed. Prince Charles did not speak much and remained rather quiet, with his mother Queen Mary speaking for him. Adelaide initially wanted to reject Prince Charles, but her mother Antonia had other plans. Antonia manipulated her daughter into accepting the proposal by emphasizing the "shame" that would be brought on the family if she rejected him.
After two more meetings, Adelaide accepted the proposal and the couple became engaged. The wedding was a small intimate affair held at the San Myshuno Palace Chapel, with only close family in attendance. Charles and Adelaide's marriage broke down rapidly after the honeymoon. Charles left Honey House and never returned; instead, he stayed at his hunting lodge in Dunkeld. Adelaide was forced to become the sole parent in the lives of Princess Alexandra and Princess Charlotte, her two infant stepdaughters.

Saint Adelaide 932-999 Feast Day: December 16 Patronage: abuse victims; brides; empresses; exiles; in-law problems; parenthood; parents of large families; princesses; prisoners; second marriages; step-parents; widows
Saint Adelaide, born a princess, was given in an arranged marriage at the age of 16 to Lothair of Italy. He died 3 years later and his successor ordered Adelaide to marry his son. When she refused, he had her imprisoned and seized the throne. She escaped and sought help from King Otto of Germany to regain it. He conquered Italy and they married in 951. Pope John XII crowned them as rulers of the Holy Roman Empire in 962. After Otto’s death Adelaide became estranged from her stepson Otto II, left the court and lived in Burgundy with her brother, but they reconciled before his death and she returned as Regent. One of the most influential women of the 10th century, Adelaide used her position and power to help the poor, evangelize and build and restore monasteries and churches.

en route to Rome, Italy
Seated behind his computer screen, Liam scrolled through the files his advisors had given him earlier in the day. It was late into the evening and the plane was quiet. Drake was asleep in his chair, snoring softly, and Bastien was seated nearby, his eyes trained on his book. Rashad, standing for the crown’s legal counsel, was reviewing the proposals that would be discussed and implemented if agreed upon.
The only sound came from the occasional beep of the computer's keyboard as Liam entered the codes that would allow him to access the secure files. Sitting back, he began to read through and analyze the information. After an hour or so had passed by, Liam stopped to acknowledge the flight attendant who set down a late snack and two fingers of scotch.
After taking a sip, he turned to his head guard.
"I hope I'm not interrupting," Liam said quietly as he closed the laptop and set it aside.
"Of course not, sir," Bastien said. "What's on your mind?"
"I just had an interesting chat with a source. There have been rumors circulating in Cordonia that the 'Sons of the Earth' are organizing. The Sons have been out of power since the last time they rose up to oppose the monarchy over a decade ago.”
"They were never a real threat," Bastien stated, his tone confident.
"My source tells me that a new leader has risen within their ranks, someone who is very charismatic, and able to sway the others with his message. I am concerned, Bastien. The Sons were always an extreme faction, and they could prove dangerous if allowed to regain power."
"You want me to find out more about them?"
"Yes," Liam nodded. "And be discreet. If it turns out that this new leader has no real power, we can put this behind us. But if there's any threat or danger, we need to be ahead of it."
"Of course, sir. I will situate agents immediately."
"Thank you, Bastien." Liam's expression grew pensive as he turned back to open the computer. "There is something else."
"Sir?"
"This source tells me that the Sons' leader has taken a particular interest in a member of the nobility. It is believed that the noblewoman is being used to gain support among the other houses.”
"Which noblewoman?"
"Duchess Adelaide Amaranth," Liam answered, his gaze hardening. "According to the information I have, factions have been allowed to situate in Krona."
"You want me to investigate her involvement, as well."
"I'd like you to bring her in and question her, yes. And I want a full investigation into her financial records. See if you can uncover any ties between her and the Sons."
"Consider it done, sir."
Liam loved the power and responsibility of his role as the crown prince. He thrived on the challenges and opportunities it provided, and was excited for the day he would take the throne as king.
With his advisor's files securely tucked away, Liam leaned back in his chair, a slight smile on his lips. He was confident in his ability to lead Cordonia into a brighter future, and he knew that with his team of advisors, he would be successful.
He had never felt so ready for the challenges ahead, and he couldn't wait to take his place as Cordonia's leader. He glanced at his ring, the royal seal engraved on it and smiled.
Liam knew he was doing the right thing. He was prepared and would not let his country down. He would protect it, care for it, and ensure that it remained prosperous and safe for generations to come.
He thought back to his father, and the legacy he would leave behind. Liam knew that his father had been a good king, and he hoped to emulate him as much as possible. He hoped that he would live up to the standard his father had set.
But more than anything, he was looking forward to starting a life with Sophie. Their relationship was a secret for now to many, but he knew that their time would come. He had been thinking about their future together a lot lately, and he had an idea of what he wanted to do.
University of Cordonia, student dorms, Candace’s suite
Sophie stood in front of the mirror, helping Candy fix the accessories in her hair. "Candy, you look amazing, and you will definitely be the center of attention at the party tonight."
Candy, who was wearing a long purple dress, smiled and turned to take a satisfied look at her makeup. "Thanks Sophie! I picked this dress out especially for the grad, and Tom will be there, too. It's the first time we've ever been to a formal event like this together."
Sophie smiled with a hint of envy. "It's nice, you two look so good together. Speaking of which, Tom is your third boyfriend at Uni, right? You are always so popular with the guys."
Candy winked mischievously and patted Sophie on the shoulder. "Oh, Soph, don't say that. I'm just looking for the one who really belongs to me."
"Maybe, Candy," Sophie said, shaking her head. "I guess I just haven't met anyone yet. I am just fussy and hard to please," she grinned.
"...and you're almost a graduate. Why don't you even try to get a boyfriend? Maybe you're expecting too much of your future boyfriend, too."
Sophie laughed and waved her hand in front of her. Her relationship with Liam was still ‘under wraps’ with only family and Daniel knowing the truth. "No, it's not that. I have had some bad luck with dating in the past. And besides, I have other priorities."
Candy raised her eyebrows. "Other priorities?"
"Like finishing my education and starting my career." Sophie shrugged.
"Sophie, you know that's not enough to keep a man happy," Candy teased.
Candy's cell phone rang. She picked it up and saw that it was Tom. Candy suddenly smiled with joy, picked up the phone in front of Sophia and began to talk to Tom endlessly.
Sophie's sighed and went out on the balcony alone. The sky was now dark, and the stars dotted the night sky. The cool evening breeze touched her face and soothed her heart. As she looked around, the campus was enveloped in a colorful glow. The trees and buildings were decorated with all kinds of colorful lights and decorations. The celebration of the end of the school year filled every corner.
She picked up her phone and sent Liam a quick text and snapshot of the view from the balcony, her fingers jumping across the screen, and finally pressed send. But as the minutes ticked by Liam's response was slower to arrive than usual.
Sophie's eyes flashed a hint of loss, and she put the phone down slowly. She took a few deep breaths and recalled that Liam had said the previous night that he was going on a four-day business trip to Italy with his advisors. Perhaps he is now busy meeting with the Italian politicians. In a few days they'd see each other again, she put her phone into her clutch and smiled.
Just then the balcony door was pushed open. Candy, with a glow of happiness on her face walked quickly out onto the balcony and said excitedly, "Tom is waiting downstairs, we must go. Are you ready?" Sophie nodded and smiled at Candy, happy for her. "I'm ready, let's go."
Outside the building, a young man with a bouquet of flowers stood by the roadside waiting. Upon seeing Candy, he spread his arms in joy and the two embraced followed by a passionate kiss. Sophie looked at their sweet exchange, with both blessing and faint envy in her heart. But she quickly recovered her mood and followed them on to their way to the auditorium.
U. of C. Auditorium
As they stepped inside, the grandeur of the space overwhelmed Sophie. The walls were lined with intricately carved stonework and the ceilings were adorned with ornate frescoes depicting the history of Cordonia.
The stage was set at the far end of the hall, with a large, curved platform flanked by rows of velvet chairs.
The room was filled with the sounds of conversation and laughter, as hundreds of students and their families gathered for the event.
"There you are!" Maxwell exclaimed, as Sophie approached the group. "We were starting to wonder if you were going to miss the ceremony."
Sophie grinned. "No way. I wouldn't miss this for anything."
She reached out to give Maxwell a hug and was surprised to find that he was wearing a tuxedo. "I see you decided to dress up for the occasion," she said, amused.
"Yeah, mom insisted!"
Maxwell gestured to Daniel, who was dressed similarly in a tailored suit, his hair combed neatly. "Squirrel!" Daniel shouted as Bertrand and her uncle Barthelemy looked on in dismay.
***
As the graduation ceremony ended, the excitement in the auditorium grew as the lights dimmed, signaling the start of the post formal festivities.
The sound of the band started, and everyone's eyes were drawn to the stage behind the dance floor.
Above the dance floor the ceiling was covered with gold tassels and twinkling crystal lights which complemented the colorful balloons and streamers surrounding the parquet floor.
A spotlight illuminated the space where a young man stood in a white tuxedo, a microphone in his hand.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen," he began, his voice ringing out through the hall. "I am your host for this evening, and it is my great pleasure to welcome you all here to celebrate the graduating class of 2024."
There was a smattering of applause from the crowd. The host grinned. "It's time for the graduates to strut their stuff on the dance floor. Will all the students please take their places for the first dance."
Sophie laughed as she watched Maxwell and Daniel sashay arm in arm to the center.
Aunt Bethany gently tapped her shoulder. “Dear, your uncle, Bertrand, Sav and I are heading home. Have fun tonight.” Kissing her aunt’s cheek, Sophie turned her attention back to the dance.
“You guys can go dance then and I'll walk around.” Sophia smiled as she told Candy and Tom motioning towards the dance floor. Despite feeling a little lonely inside she wanted to give them some space to be alone.
“Okay, see you later Soph!” Candy and Tom smiled at each other and walked arm and arm into the dancing crowd. Looking at their backs Sophie took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Memories of her first dance with Liam flooded her thoughts, seeming to have just happened yesterday. What would happen if you were by your side tonight, Liam? Maybe he would gently take her hand and ask her to dance with him or maybe they would sneak out of the room and find a quiet corner to enjoy some alone time and sweet solitude. Sophie moved through the crowd alone, occasionally greeting acquaintances, but more often she just quietly observed everything and everyone around her.
That is when the mood at the party suddenly turned eerie. The lights began to flicker and then the whole venue was plunged into darkness. The sounds of people began to cry out as they looked for their companions. What is the matter - is there a power outage? Sophie mumbled to herself as she was about to take out her phone for light. But that was forgotten as she heard gunfire in the distance, which instantly destroyed all the peace and beauty of the evening.
“It's a shooting!” A frightened voice broke through the darkness as people started running and screaming wildly. Sophie's heart raced as she pressed against a wall trying to find a safe refuge as the emergency lights clicked on. Out of nowhere, Sophie felt a stinging pain on her cheek and forehead. She touched it with her hand and blood smeared on her fingertips having been cut in the face by shards of flying glass. Being surrounded by a chaotic crowd and the sounds of more gunfire, Sophie never felt more terrified and helpless than ever before.
Sophie looked through the flickering lights and saw strange figures flash through the window. Each of them was dressed in black and wore a black mask showing only their cold eyes. What was even more bizarre was the emblem on their chests. Each had been embroidered with a strange pattern. A picture of the earth with a baby was intertwined. It was unclear and strange who or what this referenced. Sophie took out her phone to film them but then another shot rang out close by which made her jump. In a panic the crowd rushed in her direction and in chaos her phone was flipped out of her hands by a fleeing person which flew several meters slamming into to the ground.
Regardless of the panic she felt at the moment, Sophie quickly took advantage of a few people moving out of her way to run and pick up her phone and placed it into her pocket, the screen smashed. The sound of her name being called brought Sophie's mind back to reality. She turned her head and saw that Tom had been shot in the shoulder in the confusion and his blood was red on the floor and down the front of his suit jacket. Candy was also cut in the arm by flying shrapnel and in pain, huddled on the ground beside Tom.
Sophie, ignoring the pain on her face, struggled to rush to them and used her whole-body strength to help the two people up amid all the chaos and despair. She found a glimmer of strength in the fear she felt for her friend and the thought of Liam. Grabbing a table napkin, recalling the first aid she had learned during her Girl Scouts years, she made emergency bandages for both of them. as she bandaged, she looked around from time to time looking for possible escape routes, but the smoke and the fire blurred her vision, and every step was full of unknown and danger.
Candy knelt down beside Tom and held him tight ignoring the pain on her arm. Her voice crying was pain and heartache Tom's face was pale as paper, but his eyes still flashed with the will to live. “Candy, sweetie ...” Tom struggled to lift his wounded hand and gently wiped the tears from Candy’s face and forced a smile, although his own gunshot wound to the shoulder had nearly knocked him unconscious.
“We have to get out of here, quick.” Sophie had just finished patching up Tom's shoulder and stood up. “Let's go that way ... there seems to be an exit.” She said pointing to a looming door not far away. Candy dried her tears, and she nodded. Together they supported Tom, struggling through confusion and fear, Sophie leads them through the sea of fire and debris.
Rome, Italy
A sleek, black limousine drove through the city, navigating the busy streets until it arrived at a five-star hotel located in the historical centre.
Liam sat inside the spacious interior, his gaze fixed out the window as the scenery rushed past them. His mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Sophie, her face, her smile. The memory of the softness of her skin, the gentle curves of her body beneath his touch. He was anxiously waiting for her response to his text.
He was going through the days events of the first day of his official business meetings he had today. It was a very productive and busy day of meetings with the prime minister of Italy, the minister for economy, the mayor of Rome and others to discuss international issues, economic growth and cultural exchanges between Cordonia and Italy.
But there was a part of him that wasn't fully focused on the job at hand. His initial plan for this Italian trip was to formally propose, to show his family and country that their future Queen was the most important person in his life.
He remembered seeing the display of jewelry at the Cartier store, he had a ring, a symbol of their commitment picked out for her. Now, inside his suit jacket, that diamond ring was nestled safely next to his heart.
Liam started to become tense and anxious that he didn't hear anything from Sophie.
Rashad watched from the other side of the vehicle with concern. He cleared his throat and broke the silence. "You alright, my boy?" He asked softly.
Liam shook his head and forced a half-hearted laugh. "Sorry...I've got a lot of things on my mind right now."
"Yes," Rashad replied. "A lot of big decisions on the horizon. So how'd today go, if I may ask? I wasn't there at the meeting of the prime minister. How was it?"
Liam straightened his posture and raised his chin.
"I think it went very well. I gave a very encouraging speech and I was able to make him agree with our position about our partnership between the two nations. That should help open more trade deals and increase exports to other countries, maybe even beyond the EU, like China or the UAE."
Rashad nodded proudly. "Excellent."
The two men continued their discussion as the limo wound its way through the city towards the luxury hotel. After a short drive, the vehicle drew up to the entrance.
Drake smiled at the luxury accommodation and turned to Liam. "And the hotel you're staying in is The Ritz, right?"
Liam raised an eyebrow in amusement.
"This is where I'm staying for the duration of the trip, but I did the preliminary negotiating with them before we left so my entourage could get the penthouse floor. But first, my friend," Liam chided playfully, "I have to make a statement for diplomacy purposes."
Liam emerged from the limo as the reporters and press begin flashing their cameras as paparazzi called out for his attention.
'Ecco qui, Nostrand alternative!'
["Over here, Your Highness!" ]
"Your Highness, do you have any comments for the press?"
"Can you tell us what the plans are for the Cordonian delegation while in the city?"
Liam looked at the cameras and responded.
'Il mio governo attende con ansia i nostri dibattiti su come promuovere la crescita economica e le opportunita per i nostri Paesi, affinche tutti i nostri cittadini possano.'
["My government looks forward to our discussions about promoting economic growth and opportunities for our countries, so that everyone in our citizens can prosper and enjoy the benefits of progress." ]
The gathered journalists cheered, and a member of the concierge team opened the door and led Liam, Rashad, Drake and Bastien into the opulent interior of the building.
Before entering the elevator, Liam paused and turned to Bastien. "i need you to locate Lady Sophia. I have been unable to contact her since leaving Cordonia."
"Right away, sir."

Carrying a tray with a bowl of warm stew and freshly baked bread, accompanied by a small lemon tart, you smile at the passing ladies who bow as you walk down the different hallways from the kitchen to the room the king's hand was staying in. It has been almost three weeks since the fire at Harrenhal, and the devastation of Lady Strong and her daughters has taken its toll on your husband, children, and father-in-law. Although Lord Strong's sickness seems to have passed, he was a shell of his former self, refusing to socialize, eat, or spend most of his time laying in bed.
Not that you judged him; the memories of the raw pain you felt when your own mother died during childbirth were always at the forefront of your mind.
“Ser Albert.”
“Princess,” he greets. The knight steps to the side and holds the door for you to enter.
You clear your throat loudly to make your presence known. “Good afternoon, Lord Strong.
Hearing your voice, Lyonel closes his eyes and starts massaging the bridge of his nose, no doubt trying to figure out a polite way to tell you to leave him be. He had dismissed anyone who attempted to help him throughout the day, but it wasn’t as easy to send the king's daughter away.
You place the tray on the table beside his bed before turning to face him. Lyonel resembled a drunken fool who had fallen in the street with how squinty he was lying in bed. “Sit forward, my Lord," he begrudgingly says, and you stack pillows behind him so he is sitting upright. “There is a much better position to eat something.”
A sigh escapes his lips.
You pick up the tray and place it on his lap, then pull up a chair to sit beside him. Part of you felt bad for the intrusion, but the maester had confided in you that the starvation would weaken or kill Lyonel soon, and you couldn’t allow Harwin to lose another parent.
“You do not need to keep me company, princess; I know how busy you are.”
“I do not mind, my Lord,” you watch as he inspects the meal in front of him. “Is something wrong?”
“No, no, it’s just this meal... Beef and mushroom stew was something my first wife Adelaide, Harwin’s mother, would always send for it to be made whenever she or my son was feeling unwell.”
You smile Sadly, Harwin never spoke of his mother much, so you knew very little about her. She originally came from House Darry, and she had thick, dark, curly hair. “That explains why it’s my husband’s favorite meal, then.”
Lyonel picked at the food; there was an uncomfortable undertone between the two of you—something unspoken that needed to be said.
“Vaegon is accompanying me to the red keep on the morrow on dragon back. Is there anything you’d like for me to pass on during the small council meeting?”
“Just that I thank his grace for his ongoing support and kind wishes,” he says, going to take a spoonful of stew but stopping. “Is Prince Aerion not going as well?”
“He wishes to stay by my husband’s side instead.” Since learning the greens were more dangerous than you originally thought, you have insisted that protection for your family increase, and your husband agrees. “They are going to the armory to make sure the protective covering is up to standards and so Harwin can make sure the new Targaryen soldiers know their duties.”
“Many of them are former gold cloaks, are they not?”
“Yes, my lord, many of them have sworn to my uncle Dameon many years ago to follow the heir to the throne wherever she may go.” You had a theory that Daemon didn’t trust anyone he hadn’t vetted himself to protect Rhaenyra or her sons. “Afterwards, Harwin is taking Aerion to where the new watchtowers on the fortress are being built.”
“I’m glad you are going to court,” he says. “There should always be someone on the council to defend the future queen... and yourself, princess.”
You frown. “What do you mean? Are the snakes spitting venom when my father doesn’t attend the meetings?”
“I trust you will have heard the treasonist accusations being made about the princess Rhaenyra and her sons.”
You nod.
He hesitates before continuing, “I have heard some troubling rumors that are being spread around court regarding you, my son, and Ser Criston Cole.”
“Harwin was defending my honor.” Lyonel didn’t need to explain what he was referring to. “I confronted that—Ser Criston, for speaking ill of the future heir and one of the princes. He crossed a line by acting inappropriately towards me; Harwin did nothing wrong by defending his pregnant wife.”
“He broke several of the queen's sworn protector's bones.”
You struggled to bite your tongue. You understood the Lord was nothing more than a concerned father, but Criston wasn’t a fool; he deliberately pushed your husband to a breaking point.
“A father's wilful blindness to their children or grandchildren is a thin layer of protection.”
“My lord…” This was the longest time you have ever spent with your father-in-law alone, and you wondered how many times he’s held his own tongue when in your company and his sons' company. You sigh. “I know you haven’t always approved of me and Harwin being together, but I do love him. I’d burn the seven kingdoms to the ground before allowing any harm to come his way.”
“I’m glad to hear that, princess, but—”
“Speak plainly with me, Lord Strong. We aren’t in my father's council room; there’s no need to hide what you wish to say for the king’s benefit.”
“There are many men within your father's court who don't believe Thomas Lannister is the paternal father of your sons. Nor do they believe Princess Rhaenyra's heirs are true Velaryon’s.”
“Thank you for your honesty. I shall leave you to finish your meal in peace and ask the chambermaids to draw you a bath."
Just as you reach the door to leave, he calls out, “Princess... I haven’t always approved, but I am grateful. All a father can ask is that their child is happy and loved, and that's what I see when I look at Harwin.”
“Thank you, Lord Strong; it means a lot to hear you say that.”
Entering your bed chambers, you gently caress your swollen stomach, feeling your babe’s movement while watching Harwin splash water over his face and neck. The water drips off his skin and back into the basin below. He runs his fingers through his damp curls before rubbing a towel over them. His handsome face was etched with tiredness.
You kiss the back of his neck and say, “You should rest more.”
“I could say the same to you.”
You rub at Harwin’s back when he sighs into his hands; his eyes had a reddish glow to them from the lack of sleep. A few moments pass, and Harwin tilts his head and looks up at you with a small smile on his face. “You look really beautiful.”
You blush, the delicate gown of deep crimson, adorned with intricate golden embroidery you had chosen in the morning, enhanced your growing body. Harwin leans his forehead against your bump while you brush your fingers through his hair.
His hands tremble slightly as he speaks. He whispers, “The boys and Ada left just before you came in for their last lesson of the day.”
Their last lesson was over two hours long, so hopefully you'll manage to get some rest before they finish. You take Harwin’s hand, which is larger than your own, and squeeze it lightly. “Will you join me?”
He nods, accepting your hand, and you lead him towards your large bed. When you are in a comfortable position, he leans his head against your chest and starts to silently cry. He was trying so hard to hold it together while mourning the loss of his sister’s and stepmother's. You held on while he wept, and eventually you both fell asleep.
“How are you feeling? Are you getting more sleep?” You ask while scooping up a handful of fresh fruit to add to your meal.
“I feel like I've spent many nights with a crying babe alone.”
You squeeze her hand and say, “I don’t mind watching Joffrey so you can sleep.”
“Thank you, but it should be his father who is helping me.”
You swallow the food in your mouth slowly, feeling the awkwardness as your sister’s gaze lingers on her hungover husband. You love your cousin Ser Laenor deeply, but you most certainly wouldn’t be pleased if it was your husband drinking into the early hours of the morning every morning.
Just as you're about to excuse yourself from breaking fast by going to get the children ready for the day, Harwin comes into the hall, looking a lot brighter than he had the night before. He greets your sister and Ser Leanor before asking you to follow him. When you reach your bed chambers, he covers your eyes and guides you into the room.
“This is quite the mystery,” you say, holding onto his arm tightly.
He chuckles. “I promise you’ll love it.”
When you come to a stop, Harwin uncovers your eyes, and you see a crib at the bottom of your bed. The crib is intricately carved with designs of dragons, their wings outstretched as if ready to take flight. It's made of the finest wood, polished to a high shine. The sheets and blankets are made of the softest silk and embroidered with more dragons.
“It’s perfect.”
Harwin rests his hand on your bump just as a kicking motion starts. He smiles and says, “I think it’s a girl again.”
“As do I. We should start thinking of girl names since we have already agreed upon names for boys.”
“Cassandra,” he says quietly.
“A lovely name,” you say sadly. Harwin loved all his sisters, but Cassandra was the closest to him. You found it rather tragic that she had wanted to be present during this baby’s birth like she was Ada’s. “If we have two daughters, how do you feel about Rhea as a second name?”
“Cassandra and Rhea, I like it.”
Rhaenyra grits her teeth as she talks about Alicent, who would most likely be present during the council meeting you would be attending in a few hours.
You had already pleated one thick braid in Vaegon’s hair, which was growing longer and curlier by the day. Rhaenyra brows arch upwards as she watches your lady loop through blue, red, and green ribbons through your braids, which stood out boldly against your silver hair and black gown. Although you mainly wore the colors of Targayren's house, you felt it was important to include your husband's house as well.
“Are you nervous, sister?”
“Yes,” you answer truthfully. “When I told my father Vaegon he wished to join me, I hadn’t expected him to insist my son was a cupbearer during a meeting. I think he’s too young; he’s only eleven.”
“We were both younger than he is now,” she points out.
“But we had our mother there, and instead he’ll have Alicent and her pets gawking at him. I was glad he was accompanying me when I thought I could keep them away from my son. I just want to shield my children for as long as I can.”
Rhaenyra smiles sweetly at you and says, “We did have our mother there, just as Vaegon will.”

“I think there was some intent behind Charlotte because of the Princess Royal pattern (as I pointed out yesterday) but I’m not sure how much intent there was. We know that Kate is a great student of history/history of art so she absolutely would have picked up on the Princess Royal pattern, the same way she understood the significance of George for a heir.”
There is no Princess royal pattern unless you mean the number of royal ladies, married or blood born, with the name Charlotte.
Princess Royal title came into the UK monarchy with the restoration when having spent many years at the French court, the restored Charles 2 copied the French tradition of having the eldest daughter of the Monarch given that title. The French equivalent was/ is Madame Royale.
To that end, we’ve only had 7 Princess Royals and all have different names:
Princess Mary Henriette Stuart (b. 1642)
Princess Anne, Princess of Orange (b. 1734)
Princess Charlotte Augusta Matilda (b. 1766)
Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise (b. 1840)
Princess Louise Victoria Alexandre Dagmar (b. 1867)
Princess Mary Alexandra Alice Mary ( b. 1897)
Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise (b. 1950)
If you are going to speak to royal names within the UK monarchy that have significance and are used more often and for much longer by the royals then you’d pick William, Mary, Margaret, Henry, Richard, Catherine ( whichever spelling K or C) and Edward.
Some names were so commonly used that it was inevitable that royals would eventually be given the names eg Richard and Elizabeth.
Charlotte, Caroline, George and Louis came in with the Hanoverians in 1714 when Georg Ludwig, anglicised to George Louis became the first Hanoverian King of England. All 4 are German names or in origin, and were not a thing until the Hanoverians.
The habit of keeping the same names in the family came in with the Hanoverians, but it wasn’t cemented until Victoria became Queen and mandated all her future descendants incorporate Albert or Victoria into their names to keep them alive. That request was broken for those generations born after her death though we are seeing a mini revival with Elizabeth.
********************
You’ve missed the point of the Princess Royal pattern entirely, despite writing it out.
Princess Mary Henriette Stuart (b. 1642)
Princess Anne, Princess of Orange (b. 1734)
Princess Charlotte Augusta Matilda (b. 1766)
Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise (b. 1840)
Princess Louise Victoria Alexandre Dagmar (b. 1867)
Princess Mary Alexandra Alice Mary ( b. 1897)
Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise (b. 1950)
Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana (b. 2015, assumed)
I can’t tell if you’re being deliberately obtuse or if you’re so focused on historical precedence that this is legitimately going over your head. It feels like you’re trolling me and I don’t care for it.

happy new year! as a treat, i have finished snow's outfits :D she's the last in the series after cinders and rose :3 as always, lore under the cut!
nude
much like cinders, snow was designed to be in compliment to rose! we know from the album that she was beautiful and had long black hair but beyond that i wanted to make sure she looked like she could feasibly be rose's sister. she is also a bear girl <3
snow is fat! it was very important to me that she was fat with stretch marks and still extremely beautiful. so, here she is !!
i gave her a beauty mark because it's very classic hollywood beauty
you also probably couldn't actually see her tail at this angle because tiny bear tail but its so cute!
since this is pre becoming general white, she's a lot softer and gentler than her sister
fun fact: snow is actually her middle name but nobody ever calls her by her first name adelaide ever
also. this woman is so busy do you think she has the time to think about her gender and sexuality ever
dressing gown
snow is exceptionally wealthy and powerful so of course she has a monogrammed silk dressing gown. she doesn't actually wear it to sleep; she overheats way too quickly so she wears very little to bed.
entering the first appearance of snow's favorite color to wear: light blue!
yes, snow is wearing a wedding ring. since she's 29 and the head of a noble house, i figured she would be married. it was an arranged marriage to darr, the youngest child of some count somewhere because ze is entirely unambitious and willing to let snow do her thing
they also have a son together. his name is eret, he is 3, he looks up to auntie rose a little too much, his favorite animals are snakes and penguins, and he will quote space-disney at you incessantly.
duchess work dress
snow is the grand duchess of the duchy of delinore. she is the only grand duchess in the entire empire; this is the title that is equivalent to crown prince. yes she is technically his majesty king cole's heir due to being the current hereditary grimm on the throne of delinore. this is mostly a ceremonial fact since his majesty is immortal. delinore is 12 inhabited planets large and covers an entire star system which makes her perhaps the most powerful woman in the galaxy. snow is very tired all the time.
i was watching disney's snow white while designing this and the next outfit; i really like the blue and yellow look on her
this is a modular outfit! she can put on and take off the vest and cape depending on how formal she needs to be.
snow wears a lot of jewelry. this earring and necklace set was an anniversary present from her spouse!
the silver circlet atop her head is that of the duchess. you'll see it in almost every other outfit afterwards; it's like a wedding ring but for her noble status
court of stars
as his majesty's heir, snow is required to take part in the irregular meetings of his majesty's inner court: the court of stars. much of the lesser laws are handled by the council of stars and the other, lesser nobility. full disclosure: snow fucking hates this. she uses her position to do much good in the world and views his majesty like an extremely shitty and powerful grandfather she has to put up with in order to do what she needs to do. if the wedding day slaughter hadn't happened, she would still have eventually caused his death through an insane game of "political assassination cat and mouse." Y'know, different from the war.
this is the evil queen type fit. i just wanted to draw her as an evil queen okay
lorewise, this is the ceremonial outfit of her status tailored to her feminine appearance. black and red cape, deep purple dress, shiny gold jewelry, all designed to be as evil as possible
the bear clasp is the same as rose's! its the grimm family's symbol (cuz. they're all bears lol)
the dress sparkles like stars
she absolutely didn't have to go this hard with the makeup but she had fun with it. a small relief when dealing with his majesty
basically i just went really hard on the star motif
the crown is the ceremonial black iron crown of the grand duke that only ever comes out in court meetings. it's a smaller version of his majesty's black iron crown. its really heavy :(
casual
the return of the blue and yellow! this is snow's favorite color combo to wear ever <3
snow likes to wear pants when she doesn't have to deal with the many duties of being the grand duchess. it's her casual fit!
this particular set of jewelry has the snowflake motif. it's extremely on the nose which is why she likes it.
i dunno what tank tops with the extra shoulder straps are called but i thought it suited her <3
she would fully wrestle rose in this fit btw. she wouldn't win but it'd be fun!
ballgown
snow's ballgown for wearing to formal events (that she typically hosts). technically she owns a lot more, but this one is representative of her usual style. the bodice is typical, though it is a bit risque because it has no sleeves. the skirt is even moreso but she pulls it off because of her status and because she is commonly named the most beautiful woman in all the galaxy.
i thought it would be fun to put her in red! its such a loaded color in ouatis but she really pulls it off
and here's the light yellow she's so fond of <3
the boots are big and shiny and quite excessive; fully a display of wealth (especially since she's showing them off)
the drape of her skirt, rather than being modest and layered like cinders', is very form fitting and attention grabbing even without the slit
she would put her hair up but i did not have the patience to try and redraw her hair more than i had to lol
the gold jewelry she wears is big and heavy and almost armor-like. she likes it a lot
she put glitter on her makeup for this one <3

A formal tea party, hosted by the Royal family, was well underway in the gardens of the palace; the last event of the engagement tour before the court would depart for their travels across the country. A floral scent filled the air, offset by the smell of strong tea leaves as they brewed before them. A faint breeze accompanied the bright, beautiful sunny weather for the day.
After the conversation with his father the night before, Liam was trying extra hard today to be present. He did not want to stay in the past anymore, he only wanted to focus on building his relationship with the court and his people from here on out; he needed to prove that he was capable and ready to lead them.
Liam was confident in himself, until Drake and Olivia nourished the seed of doubt that he had neglected for so long. He momentarily let himself slip back into that spiral he worked so hard to pull himself out of. But Liam was determined to push all those feelings aside and move forward for the greater good of his country.
Riley was gone. This was his reality. He had to deal with it.
A cup of piping hot chios tea was set in front of Liam. He breathed in a deep breath and let the scent of the woodsy, resinous brew cloud his senses. He lifted the drink to his lips and took a small sip and let the sweet, smooth taste transport him elsewhere.
Liam groaned as he sat his cup back down in front of him. “Mmm. This is one of my favorite blends.” He addressed his audience of his father and stepmother, as well as Madeleine and her parents.
Godfrey turned his nose to the sky as he finished his first taste. “It’s acceptable.” He stated with a sour face.
Liam ignored Godfrey’s sideways remark and turned his attention to Adelaide. “Duchess? Thoughts?”
Adelaide laughed. “It could use a little something to liven it up, if you catch my drift.” She responded with a wink.
“You haven’t even tried it!” Godfrey huffed.
“So?”
Liam joined in her laughter, “I’ll give you that, Duchess.” he replied as he shook his head.
“In that case…” Adelaide trailed off and looked around the surroundings of their table.
Adelaide pulled her bag off the back of her chair and searched through it for a moment before she pulled out a small bottle containing an amber liquid. She once again looked around her to ensure nobody saw, before she nonchalantly dumped half the contents of the bottle into the cup that sat before her.
Madeleine and Godfrey both shared a mortified expression. “Mother! Really?! Have you no decorum?!” Madeleine quietly scolded.
Adelaide feigned innocence. “What do you mean? This one isn’t for me,” she said as she pushed the drink toward Liam and motioned for his.
Liam could only chuckle and exchange glasses with her. He scooted his cup over to her and watched as she emptied the rest of the contents of the bottle into her new tea, and tucked the evidence back into her purse.
Adelaide lifted her drink in the air to Liam, which he returned. He took a long sip of his spiced tea and enjoyed the new found burn he felt as it touched his tongue.
“Mmm. You were right, Adelaide. That is a significant improvement.” Liam said with a smile.
“See?” Adelaide smirked at Madeleine as she took another generous swig of her drink.
“You can’t be serious right now.” Madeleine grumbled, more so to herself than anyone else.
“I agree with you, dear.” Godfrey piped in as he continued to watch Adelaide drain her spiked tea with a mortified expression.
“Thank you! At least someone here sees sense!”
“Madeleine, let them have their moment. Nobody saw; it’s harmless enough.” Regina interjected as she chuckled a little with Liam and Adelaide. “You’ll have to find small ways to keep yourself entertained in such events as these in the future.” She added as she put a hand on Madeleine’s. “They can grow quite dull without a certain spruce to liven things up. As long as nobody gets wild, there’s no harm in a little tomfoolery.”
Godfrey rolled his eyes at the monologue happening before him, and Madeleine sat back with a huff.
“Come on, Madeleine, lighten up!” Liam expressed. He was trying incredibly hard to get past this hard, bitter shell of Madeleine’s. After all, they were getting married in just a few short weeks. Liam decided if he could get past her rough exterior, maybe he would find a better person hidden far, far underneath.
“I don’t need to lighten up. I also don’t need to be inebriated at a public event!”
“Who’s inebriated? There’s probably only half a shot in there!”
“That’s beside the point! We are at a public event, Liam! And it’s only one in the afternoon!” Madeleine emphasized.
Adelaide raised her glass and hollered. “It’s five o’clock somewhere!”
“Mother! Keep your voice down!” Madeleine quietly scolded as she grabbed her mother’s hand out of the air.
Liam laughed and pushed his glass toward Madeleine. “Come on.”
Madeleine crossed her arms over her chest and arched her brow. “No.”
Liam inched his cup closer.
“No.“
Liam scooted the drink closer with a mischievous grin.
“I said no.”
“Let your hair down a bit! One sip won’t kill you…” Liam trailed off with a smile.
“I am not drinking that!“ Madeleine shouted. She froze in place as she recognized all the surrounding commotion had stopped, as everyone looked at the head table with curious gazes.
Madeleine realized she now had to take a drink, or everyone would assume she was refusing to drink the tea being offered. She snatched Liam’s cup and lifted it to her lips, pinky high in the air. Liam silently scoffed at the show she put on, just with something as simple as drinking tea.
Every eye locked with intent on their future Queen; she took a generous swig, but as she swallowed, the hot liquid combined with the heat from the added liquor sent her throat ablaze. She started choking on the mixture, as the court watched on in fascination.
Madeleine spewed a generous amount on the table in front of her, narrowly missing Regina. The cup in her hand was forgotten as she flung it in her fit of coughs; what remained of the liquid hit the lap of her father, who sat next to her.
Godfrey gasped and flew up from his seat. “My suit!” He exclaimed as he grabbed his napkin and attempted to pat himself off.
Constantine and Regina watched the scene unfold in front of them with stoic expressions. Liam had to hide his smile behind a fist, but Adelaide did not even attempt to hide her laughter.
“Father! I’m so sorry! I-I” Madeleine frantically stammered as she regained her composure. Liam handed her the handkerchief he had in his pocket with one hand, while the other remained cemented in place over his mouth.
Madeleine snatched it from him with narrowed eyes. “Thanks.”
Liam watched as Madeleine frantically patted her father’s suit; Godfrey ultimately swatted her hand away and stormed back toward the palace with Adelaide behind him, still chuckling to herself.
“Penelope!” Madeleine snapped her fingers, and to Liam’s displeasure, the woman appeared out of nowhere.
“Y-yes?”
“Dry me off.” Madeline demanded through clenched teeth, yet never once letting the thin lined smile leave her lips. Penelope quickly gathered all the napkins she could find and frantically attempted to pat Madeleine’s dress.
After a few moments, Madeleine shooed Penelope away and returned to her seat. She turned to Liam and snapped, “Happy?“
“What did I do?”
“I listened to you, and now look.”
Liam shrugged his shoulders. “I didn’t do anything. You could’ve picked up your own glass, since they look the same.”
Madeleine scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Of course you don’t take responsibility for your own actions.”
Liam’s forced uplifted mood vanished, “What did you just say?” he narrowed his gaze on her, which she returned with her own.
Constantine saw the shift in Liam and knew he needed to intervene. “Come now, enough of this bickering. We’ve had a suitable day, let’s not spoil that. Besides, it’s time for the two of you to address the crowd and conclude the tea service.”
Although neither wanted to relent, they both knew Constantine was right. And especially now, Liam was ready to finish and retreat to his quarters until he absolutely had to resurface.
Liam broke his gaze from Madeleine and nodded to his father. He stood from his seat and walked to where Madeleine sat and reluctantly extended a hand to her. She quickly took it and stood, despite her irritation.
The two walked to the front of the gathered court and Liam lifted his hand to get the attention of everyone. “Thank you for joining us here today. We’re thrilled to have you all here.” He said with a fake, but polite grin, and turned to Madeleine to give her a chance to speak.
Madeleine returned his smile with her own version. “As His Majesty said, we’re absolutely elated to host all of Cordonia’s noble houses and representatives from the duchies as we embark on this grand adventure.”
Liam nodded his head and retook the speech. “As we prepare for our departure from the capital, it is our hope that we can form bonds and alliances with all of you. Your support means the world to us, as we would not be here without it.”
Liam stopped as applause filled the air. He and Madeleine stood with their smiles plastered on their faces while they waited for the moment to pass.
As it did, Madeleine picked up where Liam left off. “Keeping the duchies united under our rule is our very top priority. A stable country is a thriving country.” She stated. She turned to Liam and narrowed her eyes; it was subtle, but Liam saw it. “Stability is of the utmost importance, isn’t that right, darling?“
Her tone took Liam aback, but he remained aware of the crowd of people fixated on them. “Of course,” he answered through clenched teeth. He briefly narrowed his eyes back at Madeleine, who had a slight smirk on her face.
Madeleine turned back to the crowd. “Please, enjoy our hospitality until we gather again for the Apple Banquet in just a few days.”
The sound of claps filled the air once more, but Liam could only stand next to Madeleine and keep his face in a thin lined smile.
As nobles filtered inside, Liam pulled Madeleine aside. “What the hell was that?” He growled.
Madeleine feigned innocence. “Whatever do you mean?”
“Don’t play dumb with me. I don’t know what your game is, but I’m not playing.”
“Game?” Madeleine snickered. “There’s no game, Liam. But the people need to know where our loyalties lie, do they not?”
Liam scoffed. “I actually try to give you a chance, and this is how you act?” He shook his head and looked away from her.
“Me?! You-“
“I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, even though I’m very aware of the scales you have for flesh. And you chose to try to sabotage me? After all the work I’ve had to do to repair my image?!”
“And whose fault is that Liam?”
“Excuse me?” Liam’s brows shot to the sky as he whipped around to face her again.
Before either could continue their argument, Constantine interrupted them. “Eyes are still watching. Be mindful.” He said as he looked at both with a stern glare.
Liam and Madeleine continued their standoff for a few moments before Madeleine broke it. She turned on her heel and took off toward the palace, Penelope appearing behind her instantly. Liam stood with his father as the last of the nobles filtered inside.
Constantine turned to Liam. “Perhaps you should refrain from juvenile antics in the future. Despite what your stepmother said, you should know better than to entertain any idea from Adelaide.” He sneered.
Liam didn’t even try to hide the irritation he felt. “Seriously? So this is my fault? What about Madeleine’s little stunt?”
“Although she embarrassed herself, I’m sure she can spin this in her favor.”
Liam narrowed his eyes at Constantine. “No, I’m talking about her not-so-subtle jab at me during our speech.”
“Jab?”
“She threw in that stability bullshit to try to throw me off!”
Constantine returned Liam’s glare. “That bullshit should not ‘throw you off’, Liam. She only emphasized to the court what I keep trying to tell you.” He turned around and stormed away.
Liam could only stare at his father's back with a dumbfounded expression; even when he tried to be happy and engaged, somehow, he found himself on the brunt end of an unnecessary lecture.
Between those, Madeleine’s snake showing, and the late-night turmoil he kept experiencing, he was clueless as to how he was going to manage throughout the rest of the tour.
Tumblr media
Later that night, Liam sat inside his quarters nursing a glass of scotch. The only sounds that filled the vicinity were the noise of the crackling fire that roared in front of him. Per usual, Liam’s mind wandered as he pondered the what ifs of his life up to that point; he could turn the switch off, but only for so long before his mind ultimately won the battle in the quiet confines of his solitude.
Liam sighed, sat up, and reached for his cufflinks. He undid them and started loosening his tie when he heard a knock at his door. He rolled his eyes and looked that way but made no attempt to get up. When the sound came again, he reluctantly stood and slowly made his way over to the entryway.
When Liam opened the door, he found Drake standing next to a clearly nervous Maxwell. Liam felt a brief bout of uncertainty as he recalled the last conversation he had with Drake, but ultimately welcomed both men with open arms.
“Gentlemen! Please, come in! Maxwell, it’s good to see you!” Liam ushered both men inside, but stopped Maxwell and embraced him. “It’s been a long time, Max.”
Maxwell returned the gesture but didn’t respond. He only shook his head in acknowledgement with his gaze trained to the floor.
The three men crossed the threshold and sat around the fireplace; Maxwell and Drake sat on the couch as Liam made his way over to the bar cart to prepare them all a drink. As Liam sat down, an awkward silence overtook the group. Liam and Drake both eyed Maxwell suspiciously as they watched him fidget in his spot.
Maxwell had spent the first few events of the tour in a corner with Bertrand, away from the limelight. He hadn’t seen Liam since his coronation, but some of the things Drake told Maxwell made him worried about how Liam would see him; he was terrified Liam was going to blame him, the same as Bertrand did. Maxwell was truly hesitant about showing up with Drake, but Drake assured him Liam would not be upset by his presence.
Maxwell wrung his hands together in his lap as he felt Liam and Drake’s curious eyes on him. He suddenly blurted out, “I’m sorry Liam! Okay? I’m sorry!”
Liam furrowed his brows. “What? What for Max?”
Maxwell looked away and quietly responded. “For Riley…”
“I do not blame you one bit for her indiscretions. I know your house’s reputation has taken quite a toll from all this, and I’m certain you would not have purposefully brought her here unless you believed in her. If anything, I possibly owe you an apology for the press and court reacting the way they did towards you.”
“Really?” Maxwell sniffed.
“Yes, really. We’ve been friends far too long to let something like this come in between us. I know your heart was in the right place.”
Maxwell’s eyes filled with tears. “Thank you, Liam. I’ve been so worried you hated me…”
“I could never hate you, Maxwell. Especially not for someone else’s actions.”
Liam stood and embraced Maxwell in a tight hug. As they parted, Maxwell wiped his cheeks and thanked Liam again; he felt a wave of relief that his friends didn’t consider him to be a failure, like Bertrand did.
“So… I saw that entire ordeal with good ole’ Maddy and Godfrey today…” Drake trailed off with a wide grin as his friends took their seats once more.
“What? What ordeal?” Maxwell asked. He hadn’t been close enough to witness the event for himself.
Drake chuckled. “Oh man, you missed it! She spit tea and dumped some of it on her dad!”
Maxwell’s eyes widened. “No way!”
“Adelaide had given me a uh, ‘special surprise‘ in my tea, and Madeleine screwed herself into sampling it. Although, I was trying pretty hard to get her to...” Liam trailed off with a mischievous grin. “I don’t know what it was, but clearly Madeleine couldn’t handle it.”
Drake and Maxwell laughed harder; Liam joined them for a moment, but slowly stopped. Drake noticed and saw a flash of anger cloud Liam’s features. “What’s wrong, Li? That shit was hilarious!”
Liam sighed. “No, I know. It’s just after our speech was over, my father made sure to tell me how I needed to refrain from such ‘juvenile antics’.”
“What? She’s the one who choked!”
“Tell me about it! Yet it’s still my fault. And don’t even get me started about her little stunt at the end.” Liam answered as he shook his head.
Maxwell chimed in. “Even Bertrand questioned that. She looked… vengeful.”
“I agree. She wanted to throw me off.”
“Seems to me like little Miss Maddy needs to be put in her place. If only a certain someone was a King and could do that…” Drake trailed off as he gave Liam a knowing look.
“I wish.” Liam said in a quiet tone before he changed the subject. “So, tell me how you’ve been since we last hung out.”
The three men sat and caught up over the past couple of months they had spent apart. Maxwell told Liam about Bertrand's reaction to everything and the treatment he had been enduring since then; Liam said he would speak to Bertrand and try to get him to ease up. Liam mentioned his life engaged to Madeleine, as well as an update on his father’s battle with cancer. He also told them about the upcoming engagement tour, filling them in on their destinations and events throughout the duchies. He briefly spoke of about preparations that still needed to be made for the upcoming Apple Banquet, as well as the newly added charity event in Portavira.
Liam was glad at that moment he opened the door. The room felt like it used to, before Riley Brooks had come and torn apart their lives in different ways. It was fun and uplifted, aside from Maxwell’s teary apology. Liam actually felt like he needed this, even if he hadn’t realized it before.
But as they approached the subject of Applewood, Drake figured this was as good a time as any to reason with Liam. “Speaking of Applewood…”
“Yes?”
“We were gonna go early… check out Riley’s room-“
Liam rolled his eyes and grumbled to himself. “This again.” That aura of calm and relaxation he had been enjoying immediately shattered.
Drake sat forward. “Liam just hear me out-”
“What, do you have Maxwell in on your ‘investigation’ now, too?”
Maxwell quietly spoke. “Actually…”
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me!” Liam huffed as he rubbed his temples.
“You said you weren’t mad at me because I believed in her, but I never stopped believing in her, Liam! I couldn’t do anything about it with Bertrand breathing down my neck!”
Liam’s irritation momentarily subsided as he felt a flicker of pity for Maxwell. He knew how rough of a time it had been for House Beaumont, and then to hear of the treatment Maxwell had endured since; he felt sympathetic for his friend at that moment.
Liam sighed. “Maxwell, I know you want to have some of this adverse publicity taken off of you and your house, but the fact still remains-”
“I don’t care if the press drags me through the mud! They already have been! The damage has been done!” Maxwell exclaimed as he stood from his seat. “Nothing will change that! But if we can find out what happened and clear her name for her sake, then I’m all for it! I don’t have anything to lose!” He hollered; arms spread wide open.
“Well, I do!” Liam yelled as he stood from his seat to match Maxwell’s energy, positioning himself face to face. “I have everything to lose, in case any of you fucking forgot!” He jabbed a finger at Maxwell’s chest.
Drake shot up from his seat and placed himself the best he could between them. He put a hand on each man, “Guys! Calm down! I know we’re all feeling a lot, but this is not the answer!” he spoke in a stern but quiet tone.
The moment hung for what felt like hours. Both men stood and held each other’s intense glares, faces red with exasperation. Their breaths mimicked one another’s coming in short, rapid spurts; their noses would practically touch if not for the wedge of Drake between them.
Finally, Maxwell broke. His face crumbled from his angered state to tears forming at the corner of his eyes. His lip quivered as he spoke. “Look, Liam. I don’t want to argue. I don’t. I-I’m sorry I got so upset. It’s just…” He trailed off and plopped back down onto the couch behind him.
Liam’s face remained agitated, but as Maxwell sat, Liam felt himself waver. He watched as Maxwell fought to keep his emotions under control; Maxwell sniffed loudly and wiped his cheeks, and Liam felt sympathetic all over again for Maxwell, given everything he had been through since Riley left. His features finally softened, and he retook his seat. Drake slowly lowered himself back into his spot but sat towards the edge, just in case.
Maxwell continued, “I want to believe there’s hope. Finding out all of this was a setup would change things for everyone involved, not just me. I won’t lie and say the thought of having Bertrand off my back doesn’t sound great, but that’s not the only reason I want to look into this.” He sat forward and looked Liam directly in the eye. “Do you really want to marry Madeleine?”
“Well no, of course not! But what does that have to do with this?”
“Don’t you see? If we can prove someone set Riley up, we can find her! Try to bring her back here! You can-”
“Bastien searched for her!” Liam interrupted in an irritated tone. “I keep saying that and it’s like nobody is-”
“We have to try again,” Maxwell whispered, with tears in his eyes. “I don’t care if Bastien searched every single database in the world. We should check again. Then again, and again. As many times as it takes until we find her.”
“Li, what happened to the guy who wanted to pick Olivia and keep looking?” Drake asked.
“He got some clarity to the situation.” Liam quickly retorted.
“That’s bullshit, Liam! You know it, we all know it! You two were obnoxiously in love! It was nauseating! She did not leave you for Tariq!”
“Things change. People change.”
“Liam, you are all she talked about!” Maxwell interjected. “She constantly talked about you, and not just the court or what we expected of her; she talked about you, Liam! How deeply she felt about you! How much she cared! She never, at any point, questioned her decision to leave behind her entire life. She only talked about how excited she was to be here with you.”
Liam shook his head and looked away but stayed silent.
“Liam, that girl was madly in love with you; point blank. Everyone could see it. She did not abandon you!” Drake emphasized. “What if something happened to her? What if she got hurt? You know firsthand what can happen if someone gets targeted, and the nobility is involved…”
Liam knew Drake was referring to his mother. He perceived Drake's mention of the incident to be a low blow or manipulation tactic, which made him feel irritated for a split second. However, the sideways thought quickly faded, instead replaced with concern. He kept his face in a flat expression, careful not to give any indication to the dismay he was currently experiencing. But internally, a plethora of what ifs ran rampant through his mind; each one worse than the one before it. He had to focus intently to keep his heart rate steady.
This is silly, they’re just reaching for a solution… Nothing more. Liam thought to himself.
Liam put his hands together in front of him and took a deep breath before he began. “I’ve been fighting with myself since she left to make sense of this. I won’t lie and say a part of me doesn’t want to believe it’s all been a farce, because I do. I would love nothing more than to prove her innocence and find her, but what if she doesn’t want to be found? What if she intentionally left, regardless of how she spoke about me?” He shook his head and looked away. “I can’t put myself back in that position, not now. There is an entire country counting on me. I must exhibit stability, and to put myself back in that vulnerable scenario will only add to the humiliation I’ve already endured.” He added quietly.
“How about this, then?” Drake answered. “The tour is going to Applewood in a few days anyway, so let’s head out early and search. If we don’t find anything, we’ll drop it.”
“Drake, I just told you-“
“I know what you said, but I also know you. The only reason you even believe this bullshit against her is because everyone around you made you think you had to. Tell me I’m wrong.” Drake said in a confident tone.
Liam remained silent.
“Or, you think you have something to be ashamed of for reacting the way you did. I don’t give a fuck what anybody tells you; you are allowed to feel things. Does it suck that it happened so publicly? Absolutely. But then, doesn’t that raise the question of why that particular story ran at that specific moment? She was already gone! Why not run it after she left, or at the Bash?”
Again, silence from Liam.
Drake continued. “Liam, I know you’ve had it pounded into your head to put your country first, and you’ve done that your entire life. But do me a favor, subtract your Crown from the equation.” Liam’s brows furrowed in confusion, but Drake sat further forward to really try to get his point across to Liam. “Just this one time, don’t think about Liam the King, think about Liam the man. What does he want to do?”

Adelaide, Dowager Princess of the Isle (1847-1939)
Adelaide and her husband Charles enjoyed a remote honeymoon at Tregaron Castle on the Isle. Adelaide spent time reading while Charles was secluded in his rooms and went on occasional hunting trips with his friends. When Adelaide and Charles returned to San Myshuno he abruptly left, taking up residence at Dunkeld Palace in Victoria. Adelaide found herself alone raising his children as her own. Charles could never look at his daughters without thinking of their mother Maria Christina whom he dearly loved. After losing his father, his fiance, his first wife, and two children, Charles was never open to loving anyone ever again and distanced himself from his new wife and surviving children. Adelaide dedicated herself to raising Princess Alexandra who would one day become Queen of Windenburg and San Myshuno.
Like Maria Christina, Adelaide preferred spending time with family rather than at court. Adelaide organized a strict curriculum for her stepdaughters, employing tutors and professors from the top universities in the country. Adelaide frequently wrote letters to Charles and Queen Mary, updating them on the children. In December 1874, Charles visited his daughters for the last time at San Myshuno Palace. Charles had gifted his daughters new toys and dresses from Magnolia, gifts they would cherish forever. Adelaide believed that Charles's health had improved and seemed to be in "better spirits", however in February 1875, the Prince died from an illness. Charles had planned to return to Honey House and move in with his wife and daughters, however, he caught a fever which led to his eventual death.
Adelaide comforted the Queen during her grief and lived with her for months at the San Myshuno Palace. Adelaide was now raising the heir to the throne, Alexandra, whom Mary had turned her attention to. Mary saw herself in young Alexandra and believed she needed to be taken under her wing. Adelaide and her stepdaughters would spend months out of the year with Queen Mary at Statford Castle where the young princess would be educated.
In 1875, with the death of Queen Mary II, Alexandra became Queen. Adelaide became the most senior member of the royal court, after Alexandra, and was thrust into the position of a society hostess. Although Adelaide considered herself an introvert and preferred the company of her immediate family, she helped her stepdaughter entertain at the palace. Adelaide became one of Alexandra's senior advisers and was in charge of her household. Adelaide became the matriarch of the royal family by the time Alexandra's children were born. Adelaide helped Alexandra raise her children and took a huge role in their lives. Adelaide helped arrange the marriage of most of her grandchildren, including the marriage of the future King Albert II and Princess Marina of Brindleton.
Adelaide remained at Honey House for the majority of her life and continued to make improvements and renovations to the house. Adelaide turned the over 200-year manor into a shrine to the royal family and spent the rest of her life restoring the house. Honey House became the center of the royal family, with Adelaide's grandchildren visiting the house almost every week. In the 1930s, Adelaide moved into Kingston Palace to be taken care of by her stepdaughter, Princess Charlotte.
Adelaide continued to appear at family functions and official events concerning the royal family. Adelaide devoted much of her time to charities and organizations which she became the patron of including the Windenburg Disabled Veterans Fund, which she she established after the Tartosan Wars in 1905.
Princess Adelaide was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1938 and later died in 1939, leaving the royal family heartbroken. Queen Alexandra once remarked that the death of her stepmother was the greatest loss of her life. Alexandra's daughter, Princess Adeline, commissioned a statue of Princess Adelaide outside Honey House following her death. Adelaide was given a state funeral held at St. Bartholomew's Cathedral which was attended by 1500 guests. Alexandra had a mausoleum constructed at the Royal Burial Ground where Adelaide was buried.

October 22 1858: The Birth of Kaiserin Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein
Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein was the eldest daughter of Frederick VIII, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and Princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Lagenburg. Tragedy struck only a week after her birth when her elder brother died from illness. In 1860, her younger sister, Caroline Mathilda, was born. Who was regarded as prettier and a brighter personality than the chubby, serious, submissive Augusta Victoria. Soon Augusta’s mother would give birth to another boy, Gerhard, who died in infancy. Their next male heir and fifth child, Ernst Gunther, was a perfectly healthy baby boy. Augusta would have two other sisters, Louise Sophie in April 1866 and Feodora Adelaide in July 1874.
In her family, she was known affectionately as “Dona.” Augusta’s obedient nature was noted on early in her youth, even by her future mother-in-law Crown Princess Frederick. ‘It is strange how good some children are – and how little trouble they give,’ she wrote to her mother, Queen Victoria, when Augusta Victoria was nine years old.  ‘Ada’s children are patterns of obedience, gentleness – the best of dispositions’. (1)
The thought of a match between Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein and Prince Wilhelm of Prussia was contemplated ever since they were children, as noted by the prince (future Kaiser, ex-Kaiser) later in the future. But was never taken seriously until after the prince was rejected by Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine. Perhaps, Wilhelm was seeking for a rebound in Dona and it was a success. As the couple married on the 27th of February 1881. The marriage has been regarded to be happy but not without struggle. As Wilhelm quickly grew bored at his new wife’s longing for a simple domestic lifestyle, having multiple affairs throughout the years. And in the beginning only saw Dona as a broodmare. It was only after an ear infection gone bad, where Augusta stayed by Wilhelm’s side throughout the duration of it did he start to see her in an adjusted light, but continued to be unfaithful to her.
She bore him seven children:
Wilhelm, German Crown Prince, Crown Prince of Prussia (1882-1951)
Prince Eitel Friedrich (1883-1942)
Prince Adalbert (1884-1948)
Prince August Wilhelm (1887-1949)
Prince Oskar (1888-1958)
Prince Joachim (1890-1920)
Princess Viktoria Louise of Prussia (1892-1980)
Her days as Empress, she was regarded by the court as a prudish, a stickler for rules who punished anyone for the simplest gesture she deemed to be “immoral.” She was deemed by many as unremarkable and plain with a gaudy and tacky sense of fashion. With Nicholas II remarking to his mother, the Dowager Empress. That she ‘did her best to be pleasant but looked awful in sumptuous gowns completely lacking in taste; in particular the hats she wore in the evening were frightful.’
Though as overbearing and a nuisance as she was in public life and a part of her private life, by some family members, such as Empress Frederick (with whom she had a very heated feud with and who Augusta enjoyed snubbing frequently) who wrote to her daughter, Sophie, she was characterized as: ‘very grand and stiff and cold and condescending at first, but became much nicer afterwards.  Perhaps it was also partly shyness.’ and by her younger sister, Louise Sophie that when she was ‘not bowing to the will of her autocratic husband she was easy and indulgent’. “Her cousin Alice of Albany, who was sometimes mildly critical of her older relations, found her ‘most affable and kind’.”(1)
She was her husband’s biggest supporter throughout everything (for better and for worse) and was crushed when she was stripped of her titles as German Empress and Queen of Prussia after the war. Her health, which was already declining ever since the 1890s (causing her to miscarry twice) went down a rapid decline in the 1920s. And it had worsened when she had heard of the news of the death of her youngest son, Prince Joachim. She passed away on the 11th April 1921, in spite of her personal flaws, she was a beloved Empress by the German people and her popularity outshined her husband’s. Thousands lined up to see her off, where she would be buried at the Temple of Antiquities in the gardens near the New Palais in Postdam. Her husband, the ex Kaiser Wilhelm II was forbidden to cross into Germany to see his wife off for the final time.
Her room in Huis Doorn was soon turned into a shrine dedicated to the late Empress. With Wilhelm ordering for the room to regularly be cleaned with flowers and a cross draped over the bed. “Once a week, for the rest of his twenty years, he would retire there on his own, to go and mourn her memory.“ (1)
Wilhelm adhered to his late wife’s wishes for him to marry someone else when she was gone. When only a year later he would marry Princess Hermine of Reuss. He passed away in June of 1941, at age 82, 20 years after her passing.
