Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto x Reader
I'm in an angsty mood; I'm sorry, everyone.
The Bear Masterlist
“Fuck you, Carmy! Fuck you, Carmy! Fuck- where are you?” you wailed as a wave of contraction pain crashed over you. You knew where he was, that fucking restaurant. Since moving back to Chicago, you’ve learned a lot about your husband.
You knew he was an anxious ball of stressed-out nervous energy, but something changed. You suspected that the friends and family freezer incident was his breaking point. Watching him slowly lose his mind over daily menus and constant fighting with the people he loved hurt. You were convinced he wasn’t sleeping or eating, but the part that hurt the most was how he’d withdrawn from your pregnancy. Before The Beef made the change to The Bear, he would rub cocoa butter on your stomach and tell the baby about his day and how excited he’d been to meet them, but now you were lucky to have a conversation deeper than a greeting or a passive ‘love you’ before going to bed. You were unsure if he even wanted to be a dad anymore.
“How you doin’ Y/N? Need anything?” a nurse asked as she opened your chart to document your vitals. You shook your head. “I think I'm just ready to get this little girl out.” you quipped as you watched her write something down on your chart.
After the nurse had scurried out of your room, you reached for your phone on the table beside your bed. As you unlock your phone, another wave of contractions came over you. You winced as you hit Carmy’s contact, and it went straight to voicemail. “Carmen- the baby is coming. This is like my 50th call-” you groaned as the contraction intensified, “Get your ass over here! This really hurts, and I-I can’t do it alone.” a whimper escaped your lips when the realization of what doing this alone would entail.
Carmy was in the zone that night. Everything was going off with a hitch, and he couldn’t believe it. His head was swimming with ideas on how to recreate this energy. He was on cloud nine and couldn’t wait to get home to you. At the end of the dinner service, Carmy debriefed with Syd before heading to his locker. He turned his phone back on and saw a slue of text messages and voicemails from you, “Oh shit…” were the only words he could manage to get out before panic took over.

You were a manager at a thrift store on the north side of Chicago. Your job was fairly boring, sorting clothes and pricing them, as well as tagging them and putting them away. Helping train new employees, working opening and closing shifts. That was until the Blondie with the piercing blue eyes and the oh so sexy nose started coming in every Sunday morning, usually right after you opened.
He’d be holding a black coffee, from the coffee shop right across the way, and always head over to the men’s denim section. This was the fifth Sunday in a row he’d come in, and you couldn’t help but realize the way he checked you out whenever you checked him out, literally - and he had caught your eye so hard you looked at the credit card receipt to see his name.
You couldn’t find him on Instagram, or Facebook - so you figured either he was a super sexy serial killer, or goes by something else online - because who the fuck doesn’t have social media even to lurk?!
But even with his incessant staring he for sure didn’t realize you noticed, and his clockwork of coming in when you specifically were on Sundays - he still hadn’t asked you out. You figured he was shy- well knew it because any time you tried to strike up conversation with him the guy would go pink as a pig and giggle nervously. So you were going to give him an in.
“Hey there!” You said as you approached the isle, jeans in hand. When these had come in, they immediately caught your eye. 32 34’s. His size, vintage Levi’s - they looked to be about mid to late 80s by the patch and the wear - right up his alley for what he came in for.
His head popped up, brows raising slightly “morning” he replied, large hand wrapped nearly all the way around his iced coffee. God- he was so pretty up close.
“Good morning! So- not to be a freak but, these came in a few days ago, and I was thinkin’ T’myself ‘hey! I know a guy who comes in for 32 34 Levi’s every Sunday! I’ll see if he’s interested’ “ you giggle a bit, holding them out.
“You- wow those actually look sick” he took them, setting his coffee on the top rack and holding them out to see them. “Shit these are perfect. Thank you- really uh…sorry I never asked your name?” His cheeks were on fire. It was really cute though how flustered he got, he folded them, holding them over the inside of his arm and grabbing his cup again.
“Oh! Everyone calls me Bunny! Childhood thing. Can’t remember last time used my real name” you giggled a bit “and you are?” You extend your hand to him to shake.
He takes your hand with his tattooed one, shaking it gently. His hands were calloused, scarred, big, could probably reach spots inside of you that you could n- focus!
“But yeah so that’s uh cool. Never met another animal named person” he chuckled a bit, and you realized that you didn’t hear anything he said. But you couldn’t just say oh! Could you repeat I totally blacked out thinking about your fingers in my pussy! So you settled for a
“Totally! It’s the cool kids club for real. Anyway, nice to meet you Carmen” you nod
“Oh- shit sorry I didn’t - you can call me Carmy I - I prefer it actually” he said and you wanted to smack yourself
“I’m sorry- uh, Carmy. I’ll let you get back to it” you said and he looked like he wanted to say something else so you stayed for a moment, looking at eachother.
“Ok so - I know you’re working and I- I respect that so tell me to go fuck myself and I will absolutely never come back but uh- would you maybe… like- wanna go out f’coffee? Sometime? Like - like I said I totally get it if-“
“I’d love to. Gimme a time and place and I’m there” you smiled and he looked a little…suprised?
“Tomorrow? Place cross the street? Is 9:30 too early?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Sounds perfect, it’s a date”
9:30 am the following morning couldn’t come fast enough. That shift seemed to draaag after he’d left. As soon as you got up, you jumped in the shower, shaving every bit you had before slathering on your favorite smelling lotion.
You decided to wear your hair naturally, so you blew it out and didn’t use any other heat on it. Your makeup was light, and you picked a not too dressy but not too casual outfit to go with it. You felt pretty, and you knew for a fact you looked even better.
You spritz on a bit of your favorite perfume before heading out the door, a happy pep in your step at this mornings activities. You got to the coffee shop right on time, and see Carmy looking at his phone, sunglasses that were usually used as a headband in the store to keep his messy blonde curls from in front of his eyes were perched atop his nose.
“Feels weird seein’ you on a Monday” you teased, gently touching his muscular arm and giving it a friendly squeeze. He looked up and smiled a bit
“Right? Feels weird bein here on a Monday. Sundays’re my errand days” he joked back “it’s good t’see you, Bunny.” He said and you nodded
“You too! I’m ready for my morning caffeine not sure about you” you said and he grabbed the door for you
“ absolutely, after you” he pushed his sunglasses up how he usually did, following in behind you.
“Why thank you Carmy, how gentlemanly” you head up to the line with him.
“Of course- gotta do this thing right eh’?” He looked up at the board with a small smile.
“Don’t indulge me, Carmy, you’re getting a black coffee” you teased knowing that was all he drank, at least from what you saw at the store when he came in.
He chuckled, looking over at you “am I? How’d you know I wasn’t feelin’ brave t’day, huh?” He chides with a grin
“Ohh so brave what a big brave boy mixing up your coffee order huh?” You mused, stepping up to the counter
“Good morning! What can we get started for you today?” The barista asked and Carmy extended his hand to let you know you could go first
“Oh! Thanks, uhh ok soo- hmmm…” you look at the board for a few moments. “A large lavender iced matcha please and a blueberry scone.” You said and they nodded,
“And for you sir? Sorry will this be together?” They ask
“Yes- I’ll have what she’s having and that’s it.” Carmy took his card out, holding it over the reader and it beeps, accepting his payment.
“Alright! Thank you, you can wait at the end there it’ll be right out” they said and you look over, smiling bright. That was especially nice, for you at least. The last time you went out with a guy, he expected you to pay for you both. So, to say the least it felt nice to be taken care of, even if it was just a stupid little coffee.
You walked to the end of the counter, standing side by side as you wait “thank you. That was very polite of you” you told him, and his cheeks go that delicious adorable shade of pink that trickles down his neck and he shrugs a bit
“S’nothin. So uh- how long you been workin’ at the thrift?” He asked, grabbing a few napkins and straws for when your drinks came out. You watched his tattooed hands, your stomach doing those flips and rushes of heat flooding your core
“Oh- yeah uh..3 years? Ish? I realized I never asked, what do you do f’r work?” You asked, playing with the sleeve of your shirt with your fingers that never stopped moving. He seemed the same, rolling paper covered straws between his fingers or constantly tapping on his coffee cup in a random rhythm.
“Oh- shit yeah sorry I’m a chef. Sorry I never said anything but uh- yeah. The beef, well, the bear were kinda in the middle of renovating right now and changing our look.” He said and your mouth falls
“The beef?! Holy shit! Been goin there f’years!! Since I came back to Chicago!! Fire sandwiches. So you’re sayin’ no more beef sandwiches?! Dude I didn’t even get one before I found out you were closin’!” You said and the barista came over, setting your bags and drinks in front of you
“Have a great one guys!” They said and headed back to their station. We thanked them and headed back outside where there was little tables and chairs you could sit, and of course his sunglasses were right back over his eyes as soon as we got outside.
“What if I told you- I could make you one an’ bring it to you whenever you want?” He set down the bags of scones he’d carried for you, one in front of both of you before handing you a straw for your drink.
“I’d say you’re an angel sent from god, because those sandwiches are somethin else” you took the scone out of the bag and had a bite, moaning softly at the taste and sitting back “ugh fuck I love scones” you said and he chuckled a bit, having a bite of his own.
“These uh- actually are more muffin by recipe. Scones would be way dryer, but these sell better in the states” he took another bite. You hum, mixing up your drink before having a sip.
“Oh yeah? Hit me with another chef fact mister brave is this real matcha or whatever or the fake shit?” You hummed. It all tasted the same to you, but you wondered if he’d really have an answer.
“Mm” he hummed and opened his straw, mixing it before taking a sip. He scrunched his nose a bit “fake, and the lavender is fake which- I mean is kind of pitiful because lavander syrup is easy as fuck to make and not even expensive” he said and mixed it up even more, hoping that helped the flavor and had another hip, shivering slightly at the sugar which made you laugh.
“You like that?” He asked and you laughed, the kind of laugh that made your eyes crinkle just by the pure look of icky written on his features.
“You make fun of a girl for her morning beverage choices on a first date?” You asked and he put his hands up in defense
“Woah. Woah I said hang out i didn’t say date” he teased, causing you to laugh even more
“Am I seeing right now why you’re single?” You joked and he caught the giggles this time, and you wish you could see the way his eyes crinkled up beneath his sunglasses.
The rest of the meal was spent laughing, and making pleasant conversation. You spoke about where you were both from, what schools you went to, you’d learned apparently he studied abroad for being a chef which was crazy because you didn’t even know people studied abroad for simply making food but you guessed it was pretty serious by the way that he spoke about it.
Apparently the beef had been in his family and was handed down to him recently, so he decided to do something different with it and revamp the whole thing into the bear that would be opening in 2 months. You’d say there talking for about 2 hours, until he got a call about said restaurant and had to head out.
“Really, Bunny. This was…really great. I haven’t been able to like- it doesn’t matter. But…thank you, we should do this again if you’re down” he said and you smiled.
“How ‘bout next Sunday, but before the store opens - 7:30 too early for you?” you repeated his words playfully from when he asked you out.
“Nothin w' you is too early f’me, y'got y’self a date”

WWYFTT
Hey guys,
So my Rhett Abbott series, Wishing, Wanting, Yours For The Taking, is a much bigger project than i anticipated. Now i'm not gonna stop writing it, but I have a different Rhett Abbott series in the works, one that I feel is better and will be easier to write.
This series is a soulmate AU, one where Rhett and our dear reader can communicate in their minds but can't give any indication as to who they are. As Rhett goes through the events of the show, dear reader (who Rhett has nicknamed Muffin) is there through it all.
Now, to post this one I will be taking WWYFTT down. I will release it again one day, but, for now, they're going to sit in my drafts while I work on more of it.
Now, I'm gonna tag those of you in my rhett taglist as well as those in the wwyftt taglist, just let me know if you want to be in the taglist for the new series
Rhett Taglist: @writtingrose

Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto x Reader
Still feelin' very angsty... Except, I'm not sorry this time around.
The Bear Masterlist
Previous Part
“Can I help you, sir?” an older nurse in baby pink scrubs asked Carmy as he approached the nursing station on the Labor and Delivery floor of the hospital. “Uh yeah- my wife is in labor.” Carmy managed to get out with minimal stuttering. She smiled, “Oh, that’s delightful! Can I have her first and last name, her DOB, and your ID?”
Carmy nodded as he felt for his wallet in his jacket pocket. “Y/N Berzatto, 10/31/97.” He managed to fish his wallet out of his pocket and handed the nurse his ID. The nurse thanked him and quickly typed something into the computer. Carmy watched her face shift. “Just give me one moment.” She grinned sympathetically and scampered over to another nurse in a similar pair of pink scrubs. Carmy watched them whisper back and forth as his anxiety grew.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket and quickly found your contact. As he hit call, he noticed the older nurse walking back to where he’d been waiting with the other nurse in tow. When Carmy heard your ringtone coming from down the hall, he made the decision to follow the sound. “Mr. Berzatto!” the nurse called after him as he turned around the corner and managed to find your room.
“Baby—I’m so—” Carmy immediately stopped his apology when he noticed the small pink bundle in your arms. He couldn’t breathe or speak; he just stared. “Sir. You aren’t allowed in this room. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” a security guard calmly instructed as he put a hand on Carmy’s shoulder. It immediately tensed, “Tha-that’s my wife and m-my daughter.” Carmy murmured, his eyes never leaving yours. You looked up at the ceiling and squeezed your eyes closed as you brought your right hand to your face. “Baby?” Carmy pleaded. You shook your head as you wiped away a stray tear.
“I want him out of here. Now.”

Gimme a Minute
Carmy Berzatto x Reader
Just something I threw together while I was waiting for my individual supervision session to start.
The Bear Masterlist
“Hey, baby.” Carmy greeted you as he entered your shared apartment. You hadn’t heard him due to wearing your noise-canceling earbuds. “Yo, baby?” he called again as he hung his jacket in the closet adjacent to the front door. “Baby- you mad or somethin’?” he asked as he strode toward the couch. Carmy swallowed nervously before putting a hand on your shoulder- you practically jumped out of your skin when you felt his calloused fingertips on your bare shoulder.
“Carmy! You scared the shit out of me!” you yelped as you removed your earbuds. Carmy’s face shifted from worry and concern to a more relaxed demeanor. You weren’t mad at him. You just failed to hear him walk into the apartment that night- the thought of that being semi-concerning; I mean, what if Carmy had been a serial killer or something? You would’ve gotten murdered. Safe to say, Carmy had a new fear unlocked, and his momentary relief quickly faded. “You’re home early,” you commented, placing your earbuds back into their charging case. He nodded and tried to push the thoughts of coming home to blood-splattered walls out of his head.
“What had you so invested?” Carmy questioned you as he moved to sit next to you on the couch. You groaned and leaned back on the sofa, your laptop almost falling from where it had been perched on your knees. “This stupid freakin’ string theory homework. If I’d left your place when I was supposed to, I wouldn’t be stuck in the hardest science class my school offers.” you playfully scolded him.
Carmy chuckled and put his head on your shoulder before scooting closer to you, “You enjoyed yourself. Didn’t you?”
You met his question with an eye roll, “You know I did…I’d ask you to help with this assignment, but considering you don’t know the periodic table of elements, I don’t think you’ll be very helpful.”
Carmy shook his head, “Lemme help you in a different way.”
“How are you horny? You left for work at like 4 AM and now it’s almost midnight. You’re a madman, Berzatto.” you laughed as you looked at him. You’d never understood how Carmy existed; he ran on five, maybe six hours of sleep most of the time, and you were convinced that he- a three Michelin star chef- only consumed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I guess it did make sense why he had stomach ulcers at 27- but that was a thought you could push to the back of your mind for now.
“I just wanted to cuddle.” Carmy laughed as he lifted his head from your shoulder before continuing, “But I’m not one to turn down destroying that-” You cut Carmy off by placing your thumb against his lips. “Carmen. Gimme a minute to save this- why don’t you go get the shower ready?” you winked, dropping your hand and turning your attention back to your laptop. He shook his head as his lips formed a sinister smirk, “I could do that.”
“Yea? I bet you could do that.” you taunted without looking up from your computer. Carmy reached for your chin and gently pulled your head to face him. He stared into your eyes, and you felt your cheeks getting hotter by the millisecond, “Don’t be a brat- you’re my good girl. Aren’t you?”
“Yes, chef.”

Before the Policy
Prequel to the No Phone Policy universe
MDNI 18+ (blame Olive and Capri for my intense love of breeding kink Carmy....)
No Phone Policy (part 1)
The Bear Master List
“This is the month Carm. I feel it in my womb.” you teased as you sat on the edge of the tub. You fidgeted with your engagement ring as he got ready for work. He chuckled as he applied gel to his hair, quickly brushing it back. Maybe it was because you’d been ovulating, but his biceps looked delicious, wrapped in his overly tight white t-shirt that evening.
“Well, if it comes back negative, I’ll just keep fuckin’ ya until I get you pregnant.” he joked as he put his brush back in its designated spot on the bathroom counter before moving to sit next to you on the edge of the tub. You rolled your eyes, “Whatever did I do to get such a considerate husband?”
“You coulda ghosted me, baby.” Carmy laughed as he threw an arm around your shoulders. “What if it comes back positive?” you asked in a soft, nervous voice, “Well, I like the name Bonnie for a girl, and whatever Van Halen member name is left if it’s a boy… and I’ll still fuck ya raw.” Carmy teased as he kissed your cheek. You giggled and wrapped an arm around his waist as you leaned against his body.
“I love you, Carmen.”
“I love you more, baby… we gonna have one?” Carmy asked as he nuzzled his face into your hair. You reached for the pregnancy test sitting on the toilet tank. A frown formed when you saw the negative result staring back at you.
“Damn it…” you trailed off as Carmy kissed your head. “It’s okay, baby. It’ll happen when it happens.”
“I know. I just wish it would happen now.”
~
It was late when Carmy had returned home from the restaurant. David had been on his ass from the moment he walked into the moment he left. His back ached. His anxiety was off the charts. He’d noticed sporadic text messages from his family back in Chicago but ignored them. Carmy just wanted to hold you and get some sleep. After shedding his jacket and shoes, he walked back to your bedroom.
You were asleep in one of his T-shirts. Carmy watched you roll on your side; the blanket that had been covering your lower half shifted to reveal the voluptuous orbs of your ass, only a thin pair of panties concealing its glory. Carmy felt his cock twitch in his pants. As exhausted as he was, the visceral reaction to the sight before him woke him up.
Carmy pulled his shirt off and threw it in the hamster before struggling with his belt buckle. When he’d managed to get his pants off, he got into hed and attached himself to you. As he gripped your hips, he nuzzled his face into your neck and took in a whiff of your vanilla brown sugar body wash. A soft groan escaped his throat as he brought your hips closer to his pelvis. The movement had been enough to wake you.
“Hey you.” you purred sleepily as Carmy’s hands pushed their way up under the shirt you’d worn to bed. “Hi baby,” he mumbled as he nipped at the sensitive skin under your ear. You giggled as you shifted your hips against Carmy’s crotch, eliciting a strained whimper, “I need you, baby- lay on your back.” he commanded before removing his hands from your body and hurrying back to allow you to roll over.
Carmy pushed your thighs apart and wedged himself between them. His eyes were dark with lust as he pushed your shirt up, exposing your chest to him. “So fuckin’ sexy…” he growled before leaning in to kiss you. Your hands tangled in the greasy curls at the nape of his neck as your lips melded together. Carmy ground his hips against you, desperate to alleviate himself. You let your hands trail down Carmy’s toned back as he pushed his tongue into your mouth. The taste of tobacco and spearmint flooded your tastebuds.
“Want me to fuck you baby?” Carmy teased as he ran his tip through your glistening folds. You bit your lip as you nodded furiously. “Fuck me, Carmen,” you whined as he slipped inside of you. A loud, wanton moan erupted from your chest as you felt yourself stretch to accommodate the girth of his cock. “I love the way you say my name.” Carmy groaned as he slowly started thrusting his hips, “Keep sayin’ it, baby.”
As your orgasm approached, you let your head fall back into the pillows as you squeezed your eyes closed to focus on the knot tightening in your stomach. Carmy clicked his tongue as he brought a hand to your chin. Using his thumb, he pushed your chin down. “Look at me while I fuck you, baby. I wanna see the look on your face while I knock you up.”
~
“Carm? You’re home- hey, what's wrong, baby?” your surprised smile fell when you saw the look on his face. He shook his head before bringing his hands to rub his eyes as he took a breath, “Uh Mikey- he uh- he killed himself.”
“What?”
“Yea, he uh- he shot himself…”
“Carmen, baby, are you okay?”
“No, I’m really fuckin’ not.” Carmy laughed as tears started flooding his eyes. You opened your arms to him, and he closed the distance between you. He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you as close as humanly possible. You wrapped your arms around his neck after he buried his face into your neck.
“Let it out, baby. I’m here. I’m right here.” you reassured as you felt him trembling. “It’s okay, baby. I’m right here…” you cooed, pressing a kiss to his temple.
A few weeks later, Carmy found out that The Beef had been left to him. The funeral had come and gone. Natalie was calling you daily, trying to get a hold of Carmy, and now you found yourself sitting in the bathroom staring down at a positive pregnancy test. “Well… this’ll be interesting.” you chuckled as you threw the test in the garbage can. “How the hell are we gonna Daddy about this? He’s… goin through it…” you wondered, putting a hand on what you’d thought was just regular bloating.
Carmy was tense. He’d lost more than just a brother—Mikey was his best friend and one of the closest things to a father he’d ever had. Carmy was staring at his phone that evening. He inched toward the edge of the couch, awaiting a call back from his boss. You walked into the living room and went unnoticed by your husband. You slowly inched forward and watched as Carmy continually refreshed his phone. “Carmen? You comin’ to bed?” you asked, breaking the silence that had filled the room. He looked up at you and nodded, “Sorry, I’m just waitin’ for David to text me back…”
You offered him a weak smile before sitting beside him on the couch. You wrapped an arm around Carmy’s bicep before resting your head on his shoulder. “Baby, you should go to bed without me- he’s makin’ me wait… fuckin’ prick.” Carmy sighed as he ran his thumb along your jawline. “I’ll stay. We can’t sleep without you.” you whispered, hoping Carmy would pick up on the subtle ‘we’.
Carmy hummed, acknowledging what you’d said before realizing what you’d said. “We? You’re not- are you- you -you’re pregnant?” he stammered as he really thought about what you’d said. You giggled, “You knocked me up, Berzatto…”
“Baby…” Carmy trailed off before pulling his arm out of your loosening grip, causing him to drop his phone. He brought his hands to your cheeks and brought your chin up, “You’re pregnant?”
You nodded, hoping this was the right time to tell him. Carmy dropped his hands to your waist before falling back against the couch, taking you with him. You giggled as Carmy squeezed you, “Holy shit- it’s finally happening.” he sputtered as you swung a leg over his hips. He let go of you, and you sat up on his hips. “You’re pregnant… holy shit.” Carmy beamed. You bit your lip and slowly nodded before bringing one of his hands to your stomach.
“Holy shit… I can sell The Beef-”
“No, you’re not selling The Beef Carmen. We’re gonna move to Chicago, you’re gonna follow your dream, I’ll do my thing, and we’ll raise the kid there.” you cut him off. Carmy frowned, “What about your family?”
You shrugged at his concern, “Pam, Mason, and the boys are already in Illinois. Mars is- well, Mars… she’ll be around. And my Dad doesn’t care. He’ll find his way over to his grandbaby.”
Carmy was quiet as he took in what you said. He spread his fingers against your stomach and softly smiled. “Our little cub…”
~
“Hey, Mammas, you’re lookin’ good.” Tina greeted as you walked into the kitchen that afternoon. You smiled, “Hey, T. Any idea where my husband is?”
“Back alley- can I?” she smiled, motioning to your bump. You nodded and opened your jacket to give her better access to your ever-growing bump. “How much longer?” Tina asked as she felt your stomach.
Four more months.”
“I loved bein’ pregnant. You feelin’ okay? Been usin’ that oil?”
You smiled, “Carm helps every night.”
Tina smiled as she removed her hands, “You got a good one, girl.”
“I really do,” you responded before maneuvering through the kitchen to the back alley.
Carmy ashed his cigarette when he saw you walking out into the ally. “Hey, beautiful.” he greeted as you glared at him. “I thought you quit.” you scolded as you went to kiss his cheek. Carmy chuckled, “I’m workin’ on it… how are my girls?” his hands immediately going to your stomach.
“Good. She’s letting me sleep. Took a killer nap between clients.” you answered as you placed your hand on his, lacing your fingers in his, “How’s all this goin’?”
Carmy sighed, “Friends and Family is on the calendar… we’ll see what happens.”
“You’re killin’ it, Berzatto.”
“I’m tryin’ for her.” Carmy grinned before leaning in to kiss your forehead, “I gotta go back inside. Wanna hang out in the office? I’ll drive you home when I’m done here.”
~
“Hey Richie, is Carmy gonna come out, or can I go back and say hi?” you asked, grabbing one of Richie’s sleeves as he power-walked past you. He stumbled slightly and shook his head. “Not right now, dollface, but I’ll grab you in a bit.” He grinned and nodded in your sister’s direction. He hurried back to the kitchen, and you shifted in your seat.
“Something is up back there,” Mars mumbled into her wine glass as she took a sip. You rolled your eyes, “Mars. Please. You’re my baby sister, and I love you, but please don’t make me worry.”
She put her hands up defensively after placing her glass back on the table, “I’m just reporting on the vibe, Y/N. Somethin feels off…”
You rolled your eyes again, and before you could say anything, a waiter approached the table and placed plates in front of you and Mars. “Thank you.” you smiled in his direction as Mars craned her neck to look past your shoulder.
“The pregnant blonde is your sister-in-law, Natalie, right?” she asked when she noticed a worried expression on her face. Natalie got up quickly and walked back toward the kitchen door; you looked over your shoulder and saw Pete sitting alone, “That’s her husband, Pete. Where’d Nat go?” you wondered aloud. Mars bit her tongue and just shrugged, “I saw her walking toward the bathroom, I guess.”
“Hi, uh- Mrs. Berzatto-” Fak awkwardly started as he stood at your and Mar’s table. “Neil, you can just call me Y/N.” you cut him off with a laugh at the formality of ‘Mrs.Berzatto’. Fak grinned and nodded before explaining that Carmy was locked in the walk-in. “I’m sorry, what?!” you jumped into action.
You hurried to the kitchen. Tina met you a few feet before you got to the fridge to reassure you that Carmy was okay and they’d called the locksmith. “Tell her to sit down- I’m okay,” Carmy called from inside the fridge. Your face scrunched in concern as you pushed Tina to the side softly.
“Carm? Are you alive?” you jokily asked, trying to lighten the mood. “Go eat dinner, baby- I don’t want you to over-exert yourself.” Carmy protested as he slid down the fridge door to sit on the floor. You shook your head with a laugh, “Nope. You’re stuck with me. At least until the locksmith gets here.”
“Fuckin’ fridge guy- I forgot to call im back. We were putting together that fuckin’ crib, I got distracted by the baby stuff-” Carmy rasped absentmindedly before you cut him off, “I’m sorry, maybe I misheard you. Did you just call our daughter a distraction?” you huffed, hoping you’d misheard him.
“No-no-no baby-” Carmy fretted as he pushed himself up from the floor. He turned and attempted to push the door open again, now more determined to get out of the fridge. “You know what, Carmen, you were right. I shouldn't over-exert myself.” you huffed, pushing a fallen lock of hair behind your ear, “Screw you!”
You were trying to blink away the tears welling in your eyes when you bumped into Richie on your way out of the kitchen. He called after you when he’d noticed you were on the verge of tears; he watched you run out the front of the restaurant before storming back into the kitchen. “Carmy, what the fuck did you say to your wife!” he yelled as he pounded on the door of the walk-in, not caring about the atmosphere of the kitchen or the dining room. “Shut the fuck up, Richie! Get me the fuck out of this fridge!” Carmy yelled just as loudly; he needed to talk to you before it was too late.
You sighed as you rubbed lotion on your stomach that night. “You’re not a distraction. Daddy didn’t mean it… or at least I hope he didn’t,” you reassured yourself and the baby who insisted on using your kidney as a trampoline. The front door swung open. It banged the wall, startling you. “Well… time to talk to Daddy…”
“Baby!” Carmy yelled as he ran upstairs. You swallowed as you heard his heavy footsteps approach the bedroom door. “Baby—” he coughed as he tried to catch his breath. “Baby, I’m so fuckin’ sorry. Our daughter is not a distraction- I was just-”
You cut him off by wrapping your arms around his waist, smearing lotion into his dirty white t-shirt. Carmy hesitated before hugging you back. “If you ever refer to our daughter as anything other than a blessing again. I will beat the shit out of you,” you promised as you snuggled against his chest. Carmy kissed your head before chuckling softly, “There's the girl I married… fuckin’ firecracker.”
~
“How’s the baby?” Tina asked as she scrubbed the counter adjacent to Carmy. “Good,” he answered unphased as he focused on an oil stain a line cook must have left in the steel.
“Just good? Is her back feelin’ better? I sent her this article about stretches she can do, but she never responded.” Tina said, trying to get more information out of him. Carmy nodded, “Uh yeah, I think so.”
Was your back hurting? Why didn’t you tell him about that? Did you say something to him about that? It wasn’t like you to not him about baby stuff. He shook the thought and continued working on the stain.
It was late when Carmy got home. You were asleep with a romance novel next to you. He grinned and put the book on your bedside table. He smiled when he noticed your shirt had ridden up, exposing the very bottom of your bump. He squatted by the bed and pushed your shirt up a little more to reveal more of your stomach. “Hi, princess. I love you. I can’t wait to meet you… everything I’m doin’ is for you. Daddy’s gonna give you the moon and all the stars in the sky… I promise.”

“Yo, you busy?” Carmy asked as you worked at your prep station. You shook your head, “Just on veggie prep for the lunch rush.”
Carmy nodded as he stood there with his hands on his hips. He watched you chop briefly before asking, “Can you taste something for me?”
“Sure!” you smiled, placing your knife at the top right corner of your station before following Carmy to his. You passed Marcus and Tina on the way. After cheerfully greeting the two of them and engaging in some casual small talk, Carmy put the final touches on the dish he’d wanted you to taste.
You liked Carmy; he was pretty serious but had a plethora of culinary knowledge. When he took over The Beef the summer after Mikey died, you weren’t sure what would happen to your job. The late and great Mikey Berzatto hired you as a catch-all employee of sorts. You were a broke college student who managed to convince him to give you a chance.
After Mikey died, you were worried Richie would downsize, but he assured you that you were family- and you don’t fire family. When the staff found out Carmy was moving back to Chicago to take over the restaurant, Richie reassured you again that ‘Mr. New York’ wouldn’t be allowed to fire you because while The Beef may have been in Carmy’s name- it was Richie’s restaurant.
Carmy changed a lot about The Beef claiming it would be more efficient and it would be the change needed to turn it from just a sandwich shop to the restaurant he wanted to create to honor Mikey. He moved you from your catch-all role to learning how to be a line cook. He’d managed to teach you some basic knife skills and cooking quickly became a way for the two of you to communicate- despite your multiple food allergies.
When you made your way to Carmy, he passed you a plate of fancy-looking dishes with a green and yellow sauce swirl. “What is this?” you questioned as you took a spoon to the dish. “Tryin’ out some sauces for a seafood risotto Syd and I have been workin’ on,” Carmy explained as he leaned against his station with his arms crossed over his chest. You nodded, and he started explaining the sauces, “The yellow is a pineapple hot sauce, and the green is pea, garlic, and chili oil-”
“Yo Cousin! Are you tryin’ to kill her? She’s allergic to everything on that plate.” Richie yelled from the other side of the kitchen. Carmy looked up at the ceiling before sighing and turning his attention to you with a dumbfounded expression plastered across his face. “You were just gonna eat that? Even though you’re allergic?”
You shrugged, “You didn’t know I was allergic to pineapple, peas… or most shellfish.”
You watched Carmy squeeze the bridge of his nose with one hand as he took the plate away from you with the other. “Any other allergies I should know about?” he chuckled slightly.
“Pumpkin. You didn’t know- it’s okay, Carm.” you smiled as you playfully punched his arm. Carmy shook his head as he walked away from the station, laughing about how ridiculous this situation was. You couldn’t help but blush as you walked back to your station. He was something else, but so were you.

Drunken Escapades
Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto x Reader
This was a request from about 3ish months ago.
It turns out you met Mikey before he passed; you just didn't know it.
The Bear Masterlist
“Top you off?” Syd asked after she’d refilled her wine glass. You shook your head, “If I do more than a glass and a half, I get…messy.” you excused, the casual atmosphere making you feel at ease.
Carmy laughed from the kitchen, making you roll your eyes. “Is there a fun New York story here?” Syd asked as Carmy and Richie joined the women at Syd’s cramped table. Richie sat across from you and nudged his chin up in your direction. “What’s the story, sweetheart?” he laughed.
You scratched the back of your head as Carmy put an arm over your shoulders and flashed a shit-eating grin in your direction, “Tell’em the story of how we met, baby. It’s a good, what do they call it…”
“Carmy, it’s a lot of things, but I would never refer to it as a meet-cute,” you laughed. Syd looked between the two of you. Over the past few months, you and she had become pretty good friends, bonding over the mutual frustrations of knowing Carmen Berzatto. But you still had your secrets. “I was a different girl back then- a little wilder; Carmy has grounded me quite a bit.”
“Well, now we gotta know!” Richie cackled as he gestured to Syd, trying to egg her into getting you to confess the story. Syd rolled her eyes and shrugged, “I’m curious, but it’s your story-”
“Okay-Okay, fine,” you said, the anticipation in the air palpable as you laughed defensively, staring at the table. Carmy squeezed your shoulder, “It’s okay, baby. It can stay our dirty secret.” he assured you. You groaned and let your head fall back before sitting up straighter, “Okay. So imagine with me here. I’m at this bar with my friends for a girls' night out. Of course, they all ditched me over the course of about an hour, so I sat at the bar by myself. I get shit-faced- that’s beside the point. I get up to go to the bathroom, only to fuckin’ body this man.”
“Carmy? I can’t imagine that child in a bar.” Richie’s laughter interrupted your story. Carmy rolled his eyes, “I used to go to bars- but I wasn’t the guy she bodied at the bar.” he clarified before turning his attention back to you.
“It was his friend Morgan Tylers- you know, the pastry chef that went crazy viral on Twitter for making those elevated candy bar cakes back in 2020,” you explained, noticing the subtly of Carmy’s jaw flex. He wasn’t necessarily jealous, but hearing about your drunken escapades with other guys wasn’t his favorite thing in the world.
“Anyway, I ended up dangling on him for hours, right, but then I started getting really overstimulated because of the lights in the bar, and I started crying. Morgan got really uncomfortable having a drunk, crying girl sitting on his lap, so he got up, dragged me with him, and causally introduced me to Carmy.” you grinned, “I don’t remember what happened after that, but I may or may not have thrown up on Carmy… twice…” you wiped your nose with the back of your hand as you tried to hide your embarrassment.
“She did. I made sure she got home safe, and three years later, here we are.” Carmy concluded, pulling you closer to kiss your temple. “Ew Carmy, not in my apartment. Com’on.” Syd playfully cringed before polishing off her glass of wine.
“That isn’t even my worst drunk story.” you laughed. “Whats worse than meeting Carmy?” Richie mumbled as he finished off his drink. Carmy rolled his eyes and reached over to shove him, “Fuck off, jackass.”
“What’s the story?” Syd cautiously asked. You shook your head and tucked your loose bangs behind your ear. “Oh, if you thought throwing up on Carmy twice was bad, this one is worse.” you started.
“2016. Riot Fest. During Rob Zombie’s set on Sunday, I met this guy- we were making out on the outskirts of the crowd. I don’t know what triggered it, but I threw up… in his mouth. And then again on myself… and him a little bit more. I ran away because I was so fucking embarrassed. It was a low point in my life.” you begrudgingly admitted.
Richie looked between you and Carmy as his jaw went slack, “Holy shit, you’re puke girl.” he chuckled as he leaned back in his chair. You shot him a confused look, encouraging him to continue. “You were makin’ out with Mikey.”
“Wait. Mikey, as in Mikey-Mikey?” you questioned. Richie nodded as he ran his tongue across his top row of teeth. “Yeah, Chi-Chi got a hook-up for tickets, so we all went. Mikey went off to do god knows what, and when we found him again, he was absolutely covered in puke. He said he was gettin’ to second base with this girl, but then she puked on him.” Richie awkwardly explained as he fidgeted with the paper towel he’d used as a napkin.
You looked at Carmy, who’d gone pale. He nodded, and an awkward silence took over the room. You chuckled, “I guess I just have to puke on Natalie now…” Syd erupted in laughter. She quickly apologized, but the laughter had become contagious. Richie started laughing, too. Carmy shook his head and playfully pushed you, “I swear. I can’t take you anywhere.”

No Phone Policy 4.0
Originally, this was going to be the final part, but my word count got up to about 3k, and it was a lot to process. I also like odd prime numbers, so maybe one more part after this or two... maybe three, but that feels ambitious.
Previous Part
The Bear Masterlist
“Should we try to get him out of the house?” Syd whispered to Richie. He shook his head, “I don’t know what to do.” He felt defeated. Richie watched Mikey’s downward spiral. He tried to help him, but it wasn’t enough. He couldn’t watch the same thing happen to Carmy; he couldn’t lose Carmy, too.
“What the fuck should we do? I don’t know how he’s gonna react when she comes home with the baby.” Syd sighed as she anxiously chewed her lip. She’d seen how Carmy reacted to stress in the past, but she’d never seen him like this.
Carmy hadn’t slept since you’d kicked him out of the hospital room. He couldn’t remember what day of the week it was. He’d been meal-prepping all of your favorite dishes. He cleaned and sanitized every bottle, pacifier, and every part of your breast pump. He cleaned the entire house with a toothbrush and ensured the nursery was ready to go, and there was no dirty laundry. The house had never been this clean. He wasn’t eating and stunk of a cocktail of cooking oil, body odor, and bleach. Syd and Richie had been in your home for hours, but Carmy hadn’t acknowledged their existence.
“Yo, Cousin.” Richie’s voice boomed through the empty kitchen. Carmy looked up at im from the floor; he’d been on his knees scrubbing the kitchen floor, muttering incoherent nonsense. “Take a fuckin’ shower, Carmen. You fuckin’ stink.” Richie leaned against the counter and watched Carmy throw his scrub pad on the floor by his feet before he stood up and stormed out of the kitchen. He shoved past Sydney before trudging upstairs.
“What the fuck was that?” Syd’s eyebrows knit together as she confronted Richie in the kitchen. He shrugged, “I told him the truth.”
~
“Thanks for the ride, Natalie.” you grinned as she parked in the driveway. She nodded, “Come on, let’s get Wolf inside.”
Natalie helped you out of the car and grabbed your bag while you unclipped Wolf’s car seat from its base. “Are you sure you want to do this, Y/N? You’re more than welcome to stay—” You cut Natalie off with a passive affirmation about you being fine. Something in you told you going home with Wolf was a mistake, but you couldn’t avoid Carmy forever, no matter how much you wanted to…
Syd’s eyes lit up when she saw a sleeping Wolf in her car seat. “Oh my god—she’s so beautiful!” she attempted to hush her excited squealing. You grinned, “Thanks, Syd. Listen, I want you guys to swoon over my baby all day, but ya know… the elephant in the room and all…” you half-heartedly joked, trying not to cry when the thought of Carmy was brought to the forefront of your mind.
Reluctantly, Syd and Natalie left after a lot of convincing. Richie stood his ground as the women reluctantly left. “Richie, I’ll be okay.” you sighed as you unbuckled Wolf to pull her out of her car seat. He shook his head, “Look, Carmys scarin’ me. I just want to make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid.” you nodded and held Wolf close to your chest as you slowly climbed the stairs, Richie hot on your trail.
~
Carmy was lying on the floor of the nursery. He closed his eyes and pushed a hand through his damp, messy curls. As footsteps approached the nursery, he perked up, turning his head to face the pale yellow door. “She’s eatin’ and shit, right?” he heard Richie’s voice echo through the hall. When Carmy heard your snicker, he rose to a sitting position. You came home.
“I’ll ask Tiff if she has any of Eva’s baby stuff- that shits fuckin’ expensive.” Richie offered as the two of you found your way to the master bedroom so you could set Wolf down in her bassinet. “Thank you, Richie. Any idea where Carmen went?” you anxiously asked as you carefully laid Wolf down. “He fuckin’ stunk, so hopefully, the lizard showered.” Richie laughed before turning his attention from you down to Wolf. Even sleeping, he could tell she would be a carbon copy of you, “She has Carmy’s eyes.” you said when you noticed how Richie was staring at Wolf. He grinned, “You did it, kid… by yourself.”
Before you could say anything else, you saw Carmy standing in the doorframe. You swallowed hard, suddenly nervous over the thought of actually talking to Carmy. The two of you looked at each other, and as much as you wanted to skin him for missing Wolf’s birth, he looked ill. As a tense silence fell over the room, Richie cleared his throat, catching both your and Carmy’s attention. “You know, I should probably head over to the restaurant. Let me know if you need anything, kid.” Richie said in your direction before turning his attention back to Wolf, “Bye, sweetie.”
Carmy moved to allow Richie out of the room, “Don’t be stupid.” he whispered as he exited. Carmy rolled his eyes and stared at you, taking in your appearance. You looked tired, your hair was in a bun, and you wore an oversized t-shirt with a pair of equally oversized sweatpants and sandals. He immediately noticed your engagement ring and wedding band were missing from your finger. “Are we okay?” he asked immediately, feeling stupid as the words left his mouth. You scoffed, “We’re absolutely not okay, Carmen. Bond with your daughter. I’m gonna take a shower.”
You pushed past Carmy and headed to the impeccably organized linen closet. Carmy watched as you plucked one of the larger black towels from the bottom shelf and one of your special hair towels before stomping to the guest bathroom.
Carmy stepped into the master bedroom and heard Wolf’s soft half-awake gurgles coming from the bassinet. He looked over it and saw her wrapped up in a tie-dye swaddle- most likely a gift from your Dad. “Hi baby, I’m your Daddy.” he carefully reached down and picked Wolf up. She squirmed as he cradled the baby in his arms before settling a chubby cheek against his chest. “I’m never going to be able to forgive myself for missin’ your birth, princess. I’m always gonna be there now. I promise.”
~
“Don’t touch me.” you snapped as you felt Carmy shift closer to you in bed that evening. “Y/N, it’s been a month-”
“Yeah, and I’m still pissed.” you cut him off with a huff making Wolf stir in her bassinet. “Go to sleep. It took forever to get Wolf down, and I don’t want to fight in front of her.” you pulled your blanket up to your chin as you scooted closer to the edge of the bed to get away from Carmy.
“Why the fuck did you name our daughter Wolf?” Carmy scoffed as he sat up in bed, frustrated. You ignored his criticism, which just made him more frustrated, “Will you fuckin’ talk to me?!”
You sighed and sat up in bed. You glared in Carmy’s direction, “Carmen. We’re not fighting in front of the baby.”
“Then fuckin’ talk to me!” Carmy got out of bed. He began pacing around the bed, anxious energy radiating from him like a nuclear explosion. You huffed as you scooped Wolf up. You’d known Carmy long enough to know he was about to explode. You got out of bed and pushed past Carmy to exit the bedroom, “Where the fuck are you goin’?” he yelled after you.
You ignored his yells as you entered the nursery to set Wolf down in her crib. After turning on the white noise machine on her bookcase, you exited the nursery to find Carmy standing in the doorway of the master bedroom. “If we’re going to talk, you need to talk. You yell at me; I’m ending the conversation,” you said matter-of-factly as you crossed your arms over your chest.
Carmy scoffed and brought his hand to scratch his nose, “I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry I missed the birth, okay? I can’t go back and change it, and I’m fuckin’ pissed off that you’re actin’ like a fuckin’ bitch about it. Okay! Accept my fuckin’ apology so we can go back to fuckin’ normal.”
You stared at him and took in his words, “You know what, Carm. I absolutely will NEVER accept your fuckin’ apology. You’ll never understand how scary it was to give birth alone. You’re a fucking failure as a father and husband. If I had the means, I woulda left your ass.” you spat at him.
Carmy’s face contorted in anger, “That’s the meanest shit you’ve ever fuckin’ said to me. What the fuck is wrong with you?” he watched as you crossed the hallway to go back into the bedroom. You pushed past him, making him turn on his heel. He grabbed your wrist and yanked you toward him, making you gasp, “Don’t fuckin’ ignore me. I’m fuckin’ sick of this shit.”
You tried to pull your wrist out of his grip, only for him to tighten his grip. “Carmen. You’re hurting me.” you winced as you brought your other hand up to push against his chest. He grabbed your other wrist and pulled you closer to him. “You’re not fuckin’ leavin’ me, okay?” Carmy hissed as he stared down at you. “Carmen, you’re scaring me…” your voice cracked slightly. Carmy huffed and dropped your wrists, “Let’s go back to bed.”
You watched Carmy walk to his side of the bed and slip under the covers. Cautiously, you went to your side and stiffly laid down. You flinched when you felt Carmy’s arms wrap around your waist. You swallowed softly and allowed him to pull you against his chest, “I love you. I’m not gonna miss anythin’ else, okay?” Carmy mumbled against your shoulder before softly kissing your exposed skin.

Proposal Gone Wrong
Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto x Reader
Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Carmy definitely didn't see this one coming.
No warnings, just fluff :)
The Bear Masterlist
“Hello?” you said, answering your phone. “Hey girlie, could you come in at about 7ish instead of 5:30? I don’t wanna rush your nails.” your brow furrowed at your nail tech's words. “What do you mean come in at 7ish? My appointment isn’t for like two more weeks.” “Oh, I thought that yummy chef of yours told you… he booked and prepaid for a full set.” you hummed in acknowledgment. “Okay…I’ll come in at 7ish. You want a coffee?” “That’s why you’re my favorite client, babes.”
You slipped your phone into your pocket and returned to the front counter. "Is everything okay?” your coworker Dev asked as you sat in front of your computer. You shrugged, “I guess Carmy booked a nail appointment for me. So sweet, right?”
Dev bit her lip to suppress a squeal, “He’s gonna propose to you, girl!” you scoffed at her reaction. There was no way Carmy was going to propose to you. Sure, the two of you had talked about getting married and buying a house, maybe havin’ a kid or two someday, but that was the caveat ‘someday.’ There was no confirmed timeline. It was just sweet post-sex pillow talk.
~
“Yea-yeah, I’m askin’ her. Can you steer her toward gettin’ somethin’ less… unique?” Carmy watched his words. You were known to get more interesting nails, claiming that your boring work clothes needed some fun. Carmy listened to your nail tech chortle on the other end of the phone and mentioned something about ‘clown nails’ but agreed to steer you toward something more minimalist. He grinned and said bye before hanging up the phone and texting her a picture of a 2-carat platinum pear-shaped diamond ring. Carmy stared at the small velvet box in his hand and imagined the ring adorning your finger. He closed the box and put it into his open desk drawer before quickly exiting the office to do his prep work for the evening’s dinner service.
Natalie slipped her jacket off as she walked into the kitchen from the back alley. “Bear. I’m here!” she yelled as she beelined to the office to get started on the paperwork Carmy had asked her help on. “Yo!” Carmy yelled without looking up from his station.
Before Natalie could sit at the desk, her phone started ringing. “Hello?” she answered. She held her phone to her ear with her shoulder as she reached for the laptop in the middle of the disorganized chaos Carmy called a desk. “Is Carmy going to propose to me?”
Natalie held her breath as she quickly thought of a believable lie: " Uh—not to my knowledge.” You didn’t believe her answer for a second. “Natalie, is he proposing to me?” you asked again more assertively. Natalie sighed as she leaned back in the office chair, “Y/N, I can’t answer that question.” she heard you groan through the phone, “I need to know. I don’t need to know when or how- is he going to propose to me?”
“Yes.”
~
It was nearing midnight when Carmy returned to your shared apartment. You were asleep on the couch with an open book on your chest. Carmy grinned and crept over making sure not to wake you. He leaned over the back of the couch and kissed your forehead softly. “Baby. Let’s get you to bed.” Carmy whispered as he squeezed your bicep. You stirred in your sleep and mumbled something Carmy couldn’t make out. “Baby, com’on, you know I can’t sleep without ya,” he grumbled and peppered your cheek in kisses. You let out a sleepy groan and rolled onto your side to escape his affection. Carmy chuckled as he walked around the couch. He took your book and dog-eared the page you’d been on before placing it on the coffee table. As he scooped you into his arms, you instinctively wrapped your arms around his neck and snuggled into the crook of his neck. Carmy smiled when he noticed your freshly manicured nails. He couldn’t wait to see the ring he’d bought you adorn your left hand.
Carmy woke up before his alarm went off the next morning. He watched the rise and fall of your chest as you peacefully slept beside him. He grinned and kissed your forehead before getting his phone off his bedside table. He turned his alarm off before responding to a text from Syd. You started to stir beside him as he hit send. Carmy put his phone down and pulled you onto his chest, he wrapped his arms around your waist as you mumbled a ‘Good morning’ sleepily. He smiled and kissed your head before lazily rubbing your waist.
“Shouldn’t you be at work?” you questioned Carmy as he handed you a cup of coffee. He shook his head and leaned against the counter before drinking from his coffee cup. “Sugar helped out with paperwork last night, and it’s Syd’s ship tonight.” he casually explained as you narrowed your gaze at him.
“You’re taking a Saturday off?” you asked in disbelief, “You never take Saturday off.”
Carmy shrugged, “Takin’ my girl out on a date tonight.”
“What’s the occasion?” you questioned as you watched Carmy step forward. He shook his head. “No occasion. I just wanna take you out,” he said softly as he placed his hands on your hips. You looked up at him after your conversation with Natalie last night; tonight had to be the night he was asking. You swallowed as he kissed your temple.
“You wanna go out tonight, right?” Carmy asked as you put your mug down on the table behind you. You moved your arms around his neck and stared at him with a soft smile as you nodded. “Good. I have to run a couple errands, but I’ll be back soon.”
~
Tonight had to be the night. Natalie had confessed to Carmy wanting to propose. He paid for you to get your nails done. Took a Saturday night off of the restaurant. You sighed as you put your eyeshadow brush down. You wanted to marry Carmy; you really did. The idea of him asking sent you into a realm of anxiety you’d never experienced before. His specific brand of neuroticism was… unique. He was a perfectionist. You’d seen him scrub the grout on the kitchen floor with a toothbrush enough times to know that.
How the hell was he going to propose to you?
He probably planned everything down to the most minuscule detail, and if anything went wrong, he’d start spiraling and questioning the entire relationship. “Relax. Relax. Relax. Everything is going to be okay. It’ll work out. Carmy and I will get married in the South of France and then honeymoon in Greece. I’ll get pregnant in September and have the baby in June… it’ll all work out. Just relax.” you said with a deep breath. “Just finish getting ready.”
After retrieving the ring from The Bear and picking up a bouquet of peonies, Carmy felt more confident in his plan. He’d made a reservation at La Baquet, the restaurant he’d taken you on your first date, and it would be the perfect place to wine and dine before going to an indoor botanical garden that was doing some intricate light show he’d read about online. You would say ‘yes’; he was confident you would. As he walked into your apartment building that evening, he had a pep in his step.
“Hey baby, I’m back,” Carmy called as he walked into the apartment. He walked through the living room and into the master bedroom to see you pulling on a pair of fitted trousers; he admired how they hugged your hips. You smiled at him before gushing over the bouquet in his arms, “You got me flowers? They’re beautiful.”
Carmy shrugged nonchalantly, “Not as beautiful as you…” Carmy’s attempted flirting made you giggle. “Smooth one Berzatto. Very smooth.” you took the flowers from his arms and kissed his cheek before exiting the bedroom to get a vase from the kitchen. Carmy couldn’t help but check your ass out as you walked away. He shook his head and changed his shirt before pulling his infamous grey sweater over his head.
“Ready to go?” Carmy asked as he joined you in the kitchen. You nodded, “Let me grab my bag, and we can head out.”
~
“What the fuck…” Carmy trailed off as he stopped his car a little down the road from La Baquet. The Chicago Fire Department surrounded the restaurant, “Did it burn down?” you questioned, looking between him and where the restaurant had been in disbelief. Carmy scoffed exhaustedly, “Shit.”
“We can go somewhere else?” you suggested. As he put the car back into gear, Carmy mumbled something about a new pizza place not too far away. While it may not have been the farm-to-table French food that brought the two of you together, it was impossible not to enjoy eating pizza in the car with Carmy on a Saturday night.
“I found this place online, you’re gonna- the fuck?” Carmy scoffed as the two of you walked up to the botanical garden. There was a group of people yelling at the overwhelmed information attendant. Carmy dropped your hand and managed to get to the front of the group, “Yo calm the fuck down.” he yelled at the group as he gestured for everyone to step back. Carmy turned to face the information attendant, “Are you okay?” she shook her head in response. Carmy nodded, “Take a deep breath. Tell me what’s goin’ on.” he tried to be as calm as possible.
“It’s my first day—we’re understaffed, and the event organizers didn’t plan for this many people to come for the light show, and we’re shutting down. You can get a ticket refund on the website,” she stuttered as she explained the situation. Carmy frowned but nodded, “Okay… this would happen…” He chuckled as he flashed the attendant a sympathetic smile, “You got this.”
Carmy came back to you, clearly disappointed in his conversation with the attendant. “Is everything okay?” you asked; he shook his head.
“Everythin’ is goin’ wrong tonight. Just disappointed, I guess.” Carmy shrugged and put an arm around your shoulders as you returned to the car. You wrapped an arm around his waist, “Well, I still had fun, Bear. Now, the real question… do you wanna get ice cream from that place by your old apartment and then go home and let me put these pretty nails to use?” you asked looking up at him through your eyelashes.
“Of course, baby.”
~
“I’m thinkin' brown butter chocolate. What bout you?” you asked Carmy as you scanned the tubs of ice cream displayed in the freezer case before you two.
“Are you sure, baby? It’s pretty close to the peanut butter,” he asked, concerned. “I’ll tell them about my nut allergy like I do every time. It’ll be fine.” your nonchalant tone regarding your allergy always annoyed Carmy. He watched the ice cream scooper change their gloves and rinse the scooper twice before packaging your order. It was never enough in his eyes.
“You know what, I always like your order better.” you laughed as you took another bite of Carmy’s ice cream. He rolled his eyes and scooted closer to you on the bench, “Have as much as you want, baby.” Carmy mumbled as he kissed your temple.
This wasn’t the night he’d planned. Carmy felt out of control but felt like this was the moment. With his free hand, he reached for the box that had been burning a hole in his pocket all night. “Tonight didn’t go as planned, and maybe it’s a sign, but uh…” Carmy started as he pulled the box from his pocket. “I love you so much, baby. Will you-” Carmy cut himself off when you started coughing. “Baby? Are you okay?” He put the box back in his pocket before shifting in his seat to look at you. You clutched your chest as you wheezed and coughed more intensely. “Epipen! Where’s your EpiPen?!”
~
“Carmy?” you asked, your voice muffled by an oxygen mask. You looked around your curtained-off bed and pushed yourself with your elbows. “Carmy?” you asked again as you pulled at the oxygen mask. The curtain opened, and you saw relief wash over Carmy’s face as he looked at you in the bed. “You scared the shit out of me, baby.” Carmy playfully scolded as he sat on the edge of the hospital bed. You shrugged, “Gotta keep you on your toes.” you struggled to get out as the oxygen mask now dangled around your neck. “We’re never goin’ back to that ice cream parlor. They don’t know shit bout cross-contamination.” Carmy scoffed as he rubbed at the back of his neck.
“This’ll be a fun story to tell our kids, though.” You laughed as you lovingly looked at Carmy sitting on the edge of your bed. “The night Daddy proposed to me, I ended up going into anaphylaxis.” Carmy chuckled and was about to say something before you cut him off: “Yes, I would love to marry you, Carmy.”

How do you do it?
Richie's at his wits end with Carmy. Some advice may make it a little better.
The Bear Masterlist
“How do you do it, sunshine?” Richie asked as he sat on the edge of the bed that night; the long nights at The Bear were starting to get to him. Over the past few days, you'd noticed Richie had worn thin. He was exhausted, emotionally and physically. You looked up from the book you’d been reading and saw the long look on his face. “Was it that bad?” you questioned, putting your book on the nightstand beside your shared bed. Richie groaned as he leaned over to remove his shoes.
“Carmy is fuckin’ insane. He’s changin’ the menu every fuckin’ night. He wrote this list of ‘non-negotiable’ bull shit and sounded like a damn mad man… just lookin’ at him pisses me off.” he groaned as he swung his legs up onto the bed and leaned back against his pillows with a slight wince. His back was sore, his knee was acting up, and he was drained physically and emotionally. “How do you… how are you so-so peaceful?”
You laughed and scooted closer to him, “Well, you love him, right?” Richie nodded. You rested your head on his shoulder and felt his arm snake around your waist before pulling you closer to him, “Have you told him that? From my perspective, and by that, I mean what I’ve been told by you, Natalie, and the Carmy-less group chat, he’s scared that he’s gonna ruin this. Opening a restaurant with Mikey was his dream, and now that he’s living it, I think he’s experiencing some imposter syndrome. The kid is grieving his brother, and I think this is how he’s coping with it.” you began to explain.
Richie scoffed, “The kid is a fuckin’ mess.”
You nodded, “He is, but he’s gonna pull his head out of his ass and get his shit together. It’ll probably take a minute, but he’s a good kid, and I’m sure it’ll work out.”
“But what if he doesn’t? I don’t… I don’t wanna lose him too, Sunshine.” Richie swallowed and leaned back in his pillows as he stared at the ceiling. You nodded and kissed his shoulder, “Just don’t give up on him, Richie. He’ll be okay.”
