Design inspired by retro-futurism, this will be an Afro-futuristic EXPERIENCE. I’m taking inspiration from #DerrickBell original #afrolantica story, and mixing in Black sociological theory from many classic theorist, including #BellHooks .
This is the moodboard for a really big portfolio project. Project title: Unity Orbiter One.
I’m revisiting an old idea: What if Black people left for a planet, just for us? I want to explore two parts. What does it look like to determine who goes and who stays? And once we get there, what systems have we developed to align an ENTIRE DIASPORA for all of the foreseeable future?
So tell me, what type of experience does this feel like to you: a book, board game, VR game, pc strategy game, a brand, etc?
This is also a self accountability post. If y’all engage with it, I’ll feel more compelled to work on it and share results. 😅

LETS TALK ENERGY, I’ve noticed a lot of people reaching out in regards to differences in clearing out negative energy.
•
Do you know the difference between sage and palo? And when to use one or the other?
•
Both essentially do the same thing, but have different results when doing so.
•
Sage:
One of the more popular forms of clearing energy, and used for centuries by indigenous groups such as the Native Americans in ceremonies. This powerful cleanings tool is known as the bleach of energy, it literally clears out everything .. both good and bad. So when using this tool know that you’re clearing out your entire space and starting with a clean slate. The tricky part about this is, you have to replenish that space with the positive that way you don’t leave it open for anything to come and settle in, so its best to have a stone handy that is going to give you back the energy or result you want. Also, due to how well it burns and how long, sage is best used for larger spaces like your entire home. Make sure to have a window or door open when smudging. You want to usher the negative energy out, and give it somewhere to go. If not, it will find somewhere nice and cozy to hide out in the same space you are trying to clear.
•
Palo Santo:
Native to Mexico the word literally means Holy Tree. Palo also clears and cleans out your space, but more so focused on clearing out the negative and leaving you with positive energy. It’s this very reason that palo is more known for everyday use and smaller ritual clearings. They are also know for its sweet earthy smell, so a lot of people op to burn them strictly for their sent and aroma.
•
There is no wrong way to clear your space, but when you know your tools you can better prepare yourself and yield the results you’re looking for. Make sure when you’re purchasing either, you do so from a reliable place, when bringing in these ceremonial tools you don’t want negative energy following.

Crystal owned a home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for 18 yrs. and decided she needed a change, so she went tiny and moved to this 190 sq. ft studio.
Her decor is inspired by a photograph of her mother from the '70s.
Her favorite part of living in this tiny space is that she gets to see all her favorite things when she wakes up.
Plants are an important element in Crystal's home.
The kitchen is super-compact.
A shelf next to the fridge adds much-needed kitchen storage
Even though the space is small, Crystal goes bold with the patterns.
To keep it looking open, Crystal hung a beaded curtain on this tiny hall that leads to the bath and is big enough for a dresser.
